Tom selleck health 2022

Hi all,
TLDR: As the title explains I'm struggling to get my weight to move, even though I'm doing the correct things.
I'm female, 140kg (308lb), I currently go to the gym 5 x a week and I'm following a really great bodybuilding-style prgram as I love weight training. The program ends in Early August. I'm 173cm tall (5 foot 8 I think?). I have been training and dieting since around the start of this year. I also walk with my mom and dog evey day and I do some low-intensity cardio after weights.
I've run my calories through several calculators and I keep coming out at around 2200 calories per day which I find is just enought to keep me full and satiated. I track my macros, based on my financial budget and how much protein I can afford to buy per month my maceos are: 60% carbs (282g) 27.7% protein (129g) 12.7% fat (60g).
I'm mostly able to hit the protein goal, more than that I cannot afford a month.
I limit my sugar (sweets, drinks, pastries etc), but I still occasionally eat them and I'm also going to be transparent and say that sometimes I eat over my calories however not by that much and only some days (+/-250 calories). I don't follow any crazy diets or limit certain food groups. I do use sweetners in my coffee and sweet pumpkin etc. I eat homecoocked meals, don't buy takeout as I can't affoed it and I go to the stores maybe once a week. I also drink a lot of water.
I have been somewhat active all my life. In-line speed skating till age 12, field hockey in high school and I was a really good heavy-weight powerlifter till Covid Feb 2020 and I subsequently retired (580kg total). So I know what I'm doing in the gym and I love weight training. I was not active much between 2020 and 2022 - didn't gym and the fat just piled on!!
My body definitely has changed, how I look in clothes is different, friends and family compliment my progress, things have tightened up, my cardiovascular health is great but the number on the scale isn't moving.
I don't have any underlying health issues, diabetes or anything to that effect.
I don't know if perhaps I'm putting on muscle and the weight will eventually move but it's been 6 months and although my body is changing, my weight isn't moving on the scale.
I can't afford expensive body composition tests.
Please help me problem-solve this?

I've become housing obsessed at this point, and It's probably taking a toll on my mental health.
I've got about $45k (Investments and cash, but majority KiwiSaver), and a mortgage broker believes I could get a maximum of 500k if I REALLLYY stretched it.
Reaching 45k took me from 2016 - 2022, but now that I have a proper full-time income, and I can probably save more.
My goal is a 140k deposit, which in theory is enough for a $700k home. But unless I earn 120k PA, idk if a bank would even lend that much? Also, 140k feels so far away, and I'm already saving as much as I can.
I'm on the most part living below my means (with the exception of a planned holiday for new years). But honestly, it feels like I'm not enjoying life to the max. I'm avoiding eating out with friends, avoiding going to concerts, movies, even declined to go to the Hamilton event happening tonight in Auckland.
It feels like, unless I had a partner, home ownership feels so out of reach.
Basically my question is for single people saving up a deposit: How are you staying sane, and not becoming obssessed with saving a deposit?

Blackswan is a kpop group that is under DR Music (previously known as DR Entertainment). Blackswan started out as Rania (stands for Regeneration Idol of Asia) a 8 member group consisting of Saem, Jooyi, Riko, Joy, Di, T-ae, Xia and Yijo (she left before the debut) and debuted with the song Dr feel good. They went under several line-up changes until they rebranded as BP Rania (Blackpearl Rania) in 2016 and became a six member group. Hyeme was one of the members. There was a lot of controversy with DR Entertainment treating their black member Alex poorly and DR Entertainment scamming fans etc (wont go into detail but Ploopy makes a good video on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq_tyntJJyo&ab_channel=Ploopy678). Larissa (Leia) and Youngheun joined BP Rania in 2019.
In 2020, BP Rania was rebranded as BLACKSWAN and Leia, Youngheun and Hyeme came to BLACKSWAN. Judy and Fatou also joined and they all debuted with the song Tonight on the 16th of October 2020. Hyeme (the only member from the original BP Rania line-up) was revealed to have been scamming a fan (later turned out to be her husband and she was married earlier in 2020 without telling the company) and her contract expired so she left. This left Youngheun, Judy, Leia and Fatou left in the group and they went on a long hiatus. they returned a year later with the song Close to me on the 14th of October 2021. On the 16th of May 2022, Gabi and Sriya was announced to be joining BLACKSWAN. Judy and Youngheun 'graduated' the group on the 31st of July 2022 (rumours said it was because they were neglected by the company) and this made BLACKSWAN a 4 member group.
Later in 2022, on the 9th of November 2022, Leia was put on hiatus due to mental health related reasons (there was also a bullying scandal between Fatou and Leia) and she went back to Brazil for mental health treatment. Since then, there were no updates on if she would return to the group so she is assumed to have left the group. DR Music decided to proceed on making the new song without her and this made the group a 3 member group.
On the 25th of December 2022, NVee joined the group which made the group a 4 member group again. They filmed the music video of their new song Karma in Odisha India (Sryia's hometown) and the song Karma was released on the 19th of May 2023.
Ages and Ethnicity of each member:
Fatou: She was born on the 23rd of March 1995 (aged 28). She was born in Senegal and is black which makes her the second black kpop idol. Her real name is Fatou Samba and her stage name is Fatou. She is fluent in 5 languages including English and Korean.
Sriya: She was born in Odisha India and was born on the 15th of September 2003 (aged 19) making her the youngest member of the group. She is the first Indian kpop idol. Her real name is Shreya Lenka and her stage name is Sryia. She revealed she picked Sriya to be her stage name as it was her childhood nick name.
Gabi: She was born on the 7th of November 2002 (aged 20) and is Braziilian - German. Her real name is Gabriela Strassburger Dalcin and her stage name is Gabi.
NVee: She was born on the 10th of January 1999 (aged 24) and was born in Virginia in the United States. She is African American. Her real name is Alena Smith (born Florence Alena Smith) and her stage name is NVee. She revealed in her interview that she used NVee and is from the word envy (she used it in a positive way rather then a negative way).
The fanbase is also called LUMINA.

Remind Me is my personal favourite Grennan song. It is a catchy summer tune which I believe will be one of the highlights of What Ifs and Maybes.

Mistake again.

On 29th May 2023, I work this Adhoc job at the condo. When I eat the bread, I take out the plate, the plastic break. After eating, when I go and throw the rubbish. Maybe the wind too big, maybe the wind blow the plate on the floor but I never realize that. The next day when I reach home, I go and find my plate, I cannot find. Decarboxylation is a very important step in the process of making a cannabis concentrate. In short and blunt lamens terms decarboxylation is heating of cannabis to activate the appropriate cannabinoids. Heat and cold are the Extraction Technicians best friend, when controlled for. THCa is the naturally occurring form of THC exsisting in raw cannabis form where as THC is not present in raw cannabis. THCa is tetrahydracannabinolic acid, THC being the former word less acid, Tetrahydracannabinol.
The most important reason behind decarbing is the activation of the acid groups of compounds into their psychotropic active forms. While there are medicinal and therapeutic benefits to THCa and other Acid forms of cannabinoids, they are not therapeutic via combustion and can only be used to induce immediate medicinal therpaeutic effect in transdermal absorption, edibles, rso, tinctures etc. Though extended lomg term benefits of THCa have been suggested by studies. THCa is not psychotropic however. Very few psychoactive psychotropic benefits can be experienced from raw cannabis flower prior to decarboxylation.
Decaroxylation is one of the most important steps in cannabis concentrate processing, but is a part of cannabis use regarldess of How it is used. Decarboxylation is the addition of heat to raw cannabis or cannabis flower that has been curred. This torches the cannabis flower and upon reaching its flash point around 315° F approximately, the THCa loose a single carbon atom Carboxyl group 👉 (-COOH) while holding onto a hydrogen atom.
The atomic make up of THCa is 4 Oxygen, 30 Hydrodgen, and 22 Carbon atoms. We can see that decarbing causes the loss of 2 Oxygen atoms, 1 hydrogen, and 1 carbon atom. This is known as carbon dioxide, 1 carbon, di-2 oxide 1 hydrogen atom. Removal of said carboxyl group causes an approximately 12% reduction in THCa and converts to active THC.
This process can happen as I mentioned from combustion of plant material reaching the flash point of THC at approximately 320°F. It can also take place in a much more delicate manner whereby the THCa is converted to THC for use in products which will not undergo combustion. These are your edibles, tinctures, Rick Simpson Oil, topicals etc. These require that the THCa be ran through a decarboxylation process via lab techniques. However, the consumed compound in edibles and RSO is THC.
THCa does not bind to the receptors which are the main parts activating the endocannabinoid system, aka ECS. The ECS is a largely not understood homeostatic process involving the peropheral and nervous systems. THCa has a shape and size that prevents it from binding to CB1 or CB2 receptors. THC however has the key to both receptors.

There is not much study that has been conducted on THCa, largely thanks to the little amount of study done on cannabis. Meaning that which has been done has been on the seemingly most pertinent parts of the plant to understand given its possible recreational and inherent medicnal stance in the western World. 

THCa is quite interesting in that studies have shown it to be directly beneficial to the reduction of pain by causing inhibition of COX-1 and Cox-2 enzymes. Both of said enzymes have potential to increase inflimation, pain, & fever. The interesting thing is the usefulness I have heard family and friends speak to, that being the application of topicals. I always wondered how in the world a topical would be beneficial for someone like my aunt, who smoke upwards of an ounce a week and uses pens and dabs. She finds the anti inflammirory and pain relieving properties of topical absorption of THCa extremely beneficial. She suffers a multitude of issues traditionally thought of to be treated by cannabis like gastroporesis, fibromyalgia, and inflimation associated pain.
The medicinal and recreational benefits of THC vs THCa differ darastically. THCa is not psychotropic, or as I often refer to it as psychoactively psychedelic. But has a multitude of medicnal applications through topical transdermal absorption, juicing of cannabis leaves, plant, and flower, rso, and other edibles.
THCa treats neurodegenrative diseases such as alzheimers disease, interesting given that CBD quells seizure activity in certain nerodivergent disorders. THCa is also anit spasmodic, meaning it stops muscele shaking in diseases like Parkinson disease. It also somewhat counterintuitive as an anti proliferative, considering the proliferative nature of sesquiterpenes. Said Anit proliferative attributes making it beneficial in prevention of prostate cancers.
THCa is also anti emetic to treat nausea vomiting etc and induce apetite & aid reduction in nausea. It is also analgesic in nature which means it is a pain killer. Finally like most compounds in cannabis THCa is an antioxidant that protects one from and reverses the damage caused by free radicals.
THC in addition to the plethora of medicinal applications of THCa, we have the medicinal viability of THC. Again none of this is accepted by the FDA and much comes from studies of cannabis from around the world as US peer reviewed research wasn't allowed in the US untill 2022. Atleast NOT RESEARCH without FDA manipulation forcing researchers to use cannabis from the University of Mississippi grown by government contractors to ensure low quality cannabis and sub par quality. This was the product available for study by peer reviewed researchers, ensuring FDAs plausible deniablilty while simultaneously actively controlling ability to produce results other than null. This backing down by the FDA is why we see so many synthetic cannabinoids hitting the market now. We're actually able to study the cannabis actually being used, though the restrictions are still a bit uncalled for.
The benefits of THC actually do differ from THCa. I didn't know this for the longest time. I always thought that THC was simply decarboxylIzed THCa. THC can assist with the treatment of opioid addiction, ya know, the way addicts who've suffered from the disease for years have suggested that the plant helps. For decades individuals on methadone maintainence treatment or another form of medicated assisted Treatment, aka MAT like suboxone, subtuex, or sublicaid which are all partial opioid agonists, save methadone as it is a full agonist. The Marijuana is said to dissuade the desire for reward seeking by allowing a less intense non addictive reward to Be given to the brain via THC.
Studies have actually shown a statistically significant difference in completion of opioid maintainence programs and relapse therein or total relapse correlated to THC use. This use is said to be decreasing desire to activate that 'burnt-in' reward system pathway. Essentially yes it let's the patient get high without axtivating those addictive pathways. The studies insinuate both the application and medicinal viability of myrcene outside and likely within the whole of cannabis. Remember the whole is more than sum of its parts. AS well as the fact that THERE maybe isn't much receptor activation leadiNg to addictive properties, but RATHER, the pathway to the mu receptor causes the addictive properties.
THC has also been shown to have a strong Correlation to increased Metabolic output, which has a multitude of health benefits that most certainly don't abIDE by THE social niceties of todayS society. Cannabis use can produce THC benefit can lessen possibility of diet related obesity. The THC has actually been shown to be correlated with decrease in Body Mass Index as outdated as the BMI is said to be in modern culture. In addition THC has been correlated to A decrease in likliehood of diet associated diabetes.
THC also exhibits the characteristic of encouraging Vasodialation which is how the pressure in the eyes is releived for Glaucoma patients. Vasodiallation is the diallation of blood vessels, aka opening them up. This causes a decrease in blood pressure. However, strains with potent beta myrcene levels can effect the way in which the THC works. When THC is used with Beta caryophyllene in that form, not trans caryophyllene which is the most common form of beta caryophyllene and myrcene together, the THC enhances sedative effects in the potency of the onset brought on by beta caryophyllene sedation enhanced via myrcene.
Myrcene alone causes proliferation of THC across the blood brain n barrier leading to imcreased absorption of THC and increased activation of the CB1 receptors. This increases the psychotropic ability of the cannabis. THC potency can also be controlled with the application of various combinations of terpenes, namely related to beta caryophyllene and beta myrcene.

For example, that intensification of cb1 receptor activity can be quelled using the dietary nature of the dietary cannabinoid Beta Caryophyllene, by ingesting small amounts of black pepper cernals. These are high in Beta caryophyllene and as it is also a dietary cannabinoid meaning it can enter the endocsnnabnoid system througj the stomach and interacts with cannabis compounds active in the ECS. This calms the psychotropic Intensity calming paranoia & anxiety. 

What is interesting and leads to deep sometimes heated discussion is that THC is also anxiolytic. Obviously heated given the intensification of THC via myrcene in a sativa lacking beta or trans caryophyllene. THCa is shown in studies in 2017 to be a more effective anti inflammitory than CBD when treating certain gastrointestinal disorders, specifically Irritable bowel syndrome, chrons disease, and ulcerative colitis.
So what does it mean when you see a small amount of THC in the product but higher levels of THCa? That ofcourse is a traditional confirmation of analysis.

First, it is very possible that the confirmation of analysis testing if using gas Chrometography that the THC may be underestimated, making for a more potent product than labeled....though these differences would be so Minute they likely wouldn't be noted by a person using the product. Maybe someone sensitive to THC. 

Ever notice how there is typically some level of THC usually below 1% while your THCa tests around 79% or 78%. When testing cannabis products, when using Gas Chrometography the amount of THCa that converts to THC is 70%, but the THCa is not measurable using this method due to the temperature decearboxylizing the THCa to its psychotropic form.
Gas Chrometography combusts the material into a gassesous form and runs this gas through filtration which is able to measure the compound levels. I Showed below a picture diagram showing these systems. Because this is the "decarbed" product meaning heat was applied to convert the tetrahydracannabinolic acid. The THC is all that can be measured using this approach, not the THCa and only 70% of THCa is converted in this process. However knowing that 70% of THCa converts to THC we can sus out the levels of both using this approach.
It is impossible to know what that initial amount of THCa was of which 70% gets converted. Cannabis confirmation of analysis testing is very complex and has many seeming double negatives and odd measuremnet standards. One of these as a good example is less than the limit of quantitation. This means that the compound is present but can't be measured in accurate levels.
Liquid chrometography is a secondary method used to produce the confirmation of analysis you find on most states cannabis Product, atleast for the medicinal cannabis products in my state. Liquid chrometography takes advantage of a universal formula used to determine the amount of THCa that gets converted to THC.
The Universal Mathematical formula is as follows.
THC TOTAL= (%THCa) X 0.877 + (%THC)
If we remember looking back, approximately 12% of THCa is lost in the extraction process, during decarboxylation. That approximates at 0.877 which is equivalent to 87.7%. 87.8 + 12 leaves 99.8%. I am not exactly certain about the .2% leftover. I will update when i do learn ablut this fact. When the carboxyl group is removed and hydrogen atom preserved a 12% reduction occurs in THCa and other active cannabinoids, those exsisiting as an acid naturally like CBGa are converted as well.
This is how the ACTUAL levels are measured in order to understand the real potnecy of the product your using. THCa for example require a temperature exposure of 220° F for 30-45 mins before decarbing begins. The key for some decarbing processes is to manipulate atmospheric pressures to lower the boiling points and flash points of cannabinoid temperatures in order to ensure the partial flashing over (that is decarbing) takes place but doesn't degrade the product. Control of atmospheric pressure is necessary so that terpenes are not evaporated as some terpnenes begin to flash over at right around 100°F. A rotovap is one way this is done for which there is a diagram below as well, showing the liquid bath and erlyn myer flask (flask with bulbous bottom). Or in a VTA wipe decarboxylationprocess. .
THCa decarbs at approximately 220° F and CBDa decarbs at approximately 245°F, exposure time being approximately 90 minutes. To keep terpenes from evaporating it is necessary to extend the length of time one runs decarbozylation process in order to lower the temperature. A chart exsists to show heat vs time and the relative output thereof i included below. According to my research the optimal temperature for THCa decarboxylation is between 252° & 293°F.
If you plan to exsist on the Recreational market as a processor of cannabis or as an individual processing your own cannabis, decarboxylation is absolutely necessary to compete with big indisytry and make cannabis product containing desired terpenes.

 While decarbing can be done ignoring the evaporation of terpenes, which is why there is the issue of adding terpenes in some processing it is best to try to keep these terps especially if competing In a state where medicinal multi million dollar industry is operating.

I am 22(transfemale) and I have a boyfriend (trans male->nonbinary, important later on) who recently celebrated their 22nd birthday as well.
We have known each other existed since 1st grade, became friends in 3rd grade, and then closer friends in 6th.
A lot of his other friends left him in middle school, and I was one of the 2 who stayed with him when he came out in 8th grade. I even got my parents to use his right name and pronouns, which I personally thought was impressive, as I and my three older siblings (now 26 nonbinary, 25m, 23f)grew up going to church (Salvation Army I'll go more into it later on.)
I kind of...knew I wasn't cis/straight throughout most of highschool, but considering my parents (who are now 55f and 70+m, honestly i stopped keeping track at 60) I didn't really look too deep into it.
My now bf, who was just a friend at the time, took me to a Queer Prom when we were in grade 11, where I dressed in a suit, with a women's blazer, heels, and makeup. I hated the fake nails but loved everything else. We went again the next year when we were in grade 12, and I brought my actual Prom Suit from highschool to the Queer one as well. I enjoyed the Queer one more.
It was about 2 years ago that I realized I wanted to be a girl. I looked back on myself and my childhood, which I'll briefly name some of the things that should have tipped me off;
• I liked wearing clear coat glitter nail polish, one sunday morning when I put some on myself and my mom noticed she said we didn't have time to buy nail polish remover, and come home to take it off. So she made me wear gloves, we bought remover from the store, and then she took me into the women's bathroom to remove it myself as she yelled at me to hurry up. • I loved watching the Disney princess movies growing up. Animation over gritty live action any day. • A lot of tv shows I liked were actually geared more towards girls (Atomic Betty, Kim Possible, Totally Spies, Ruby Gloom) or the ones I did like watching that were for boys (Martin Mystery, Hot Wheels, Johnny Test, Foster's Home) I always enjoyed the female characters more. At the time I thought it was crushes, but what I was actually feeling was an aspiration to look like them. I always thought they were pretty and had fun personalities. But not ones I wanted to date, ones I wanted to have. •Up until puberty struck, I had one guy friend and then almost entirely a female friend group.
I can make another post entirely about my teenage years, but moving forward to living alone in 2021 I realized I was transgender. I wanted to be a girl. I told my friends who all supported me. I supported my oldest siblings, when they came out in 2022. They even privately talked to me about it and thats when I slipped out and told them about me. This was also when that long, LONG time friend and I started going out. We dated like three different times throughout the school year but both wanted to be serious for this one.
In 2023 I came out fully to everyone on my birthday. Coworkers, Boss, All my friends, family. Everyone said they were happy for me. But my parents still use my old name and pronouns. My dad I sort of written off, all my siblings think he's going senile anyway, so...I personally think getting him to do it is a lost cause, but my mother is the same way. Using female pronouns for my oldest siblings. However, I assumed because she changed and used the proper name and pronouns for my boyfriend then she would do the same for me, right?
We just had a talk today, where she asked how long we were dating, me and my boyfriend. Because she wanted to compare when I came out (to her, I came out this year but realized well before now) with when I started dating. Note that, this isn't my first significant other either, I just never told her about all my other ones. Another story for another day but my mother loves to know everything even if it requires invading personal space and privacy.
...she just wants her "sweet innocent boy to come back to her", she wants me her obedient quiet child to never speak up or voice my opinion. I moved out. I only interact with my mother for holidays and because of a family plan phone bill (40$ a month for me, 4GB and unlimited texting and calling), but this just feels...so invalidating. They think my boyfriend who I've known forever is taking advantage of me and using me for my money, which is not true. My boyfriend gets uncomfortable whenever I pay for meals or gifts for him. It's true he has a bit of a money issue, it's because of health problems and only getting 2 shifts a week at his work, to pay for gas, rent from parents, and medication. I have more disposable income than he does, so I pay for more dates. It's that simple. I only interact with my dad whenever I can't get a taxi to work and I pay him about 4$ for that. I have no license or car. I actually just applied to get a credit card a week ago, one step closer to getting my phone off the parent's bill.
I just feel...invalidated. I've felt it a bit through my life from my parents, but knowing that they don't see me for who I am or who I'm comfortable being, and instead want the child they know back, the child that was in the closet, didnt speak up, the personality I made so they wouldn't question me.

New Health Transformation Programme assessment contracts for period from 2024 to 2029 awarded to Maximus, Capita and Ingeus
DWP Minister Tom Pursglove announced the outcome of the procurement process for Functional Assessment Services contracts under the Health Transformation Programme in four out of the five geographical lot areas.
In March 2019, the DWP announced the formation of the Health Transformation Programme to transition the separate work capability assessment for employment and support allowance and universal credit, and the personal independence payment (PIP) assessment service, into one unified, integrated service. The contracts for these assessments will run from 2024 to 2029 and the successful bidders for four of the five geographical lots are as follows -

• Lot 1 (North England and Scotland): Maximus UK Services Limited
• Lot 2 (Midlands and Wales): Capita Business Services Limited
• Lot 4 (South East England, London and East Anglia): Ingeus UK Limited
• Lot 5 (Northern Ireland): Capita Business Services Limited.

The contract for Lot 3 (South West England) has yet to be awarded, and eagle eyes amongst you will notice that Atos (known as IAS - Independent Assessment Service) have not been awarded a contract - although it is not known if they applied.

Increase in the maximum amounts for childcare support in universal credit will come into effect from 28 June 2023
In addition, DWP confirmed that, from the same date, claimants will be able to receive help with their childcare costs up front when they enter work or significantly increase their hours.
The universal credit childcare cost maximum amounts will be increasing to £950.92 for one child and £1,630.15 for two or more children - up from the previous limits of £646.35 and £1,108.04 respectively.
The changes are provided for by the Universal Credit (Childcare) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 (SI.No.593/2023)

Social Security Scotland confirms that not all those eligible for best start grant school age payment will receive automatic awards
While the majority of eligible families will receive payments automatically from 1 June 2023, Social Security Scotland confirmed that some people will not receive awards automatically -
'... a small number of people who receive housing benefit are eligible for school age payment but not Scottish child payment. They must apply for school age payment from June 1 before the window closes on 29 February 2024.
Similarly, those who have chosen not to apply for Scottish child payment, and those who have opted out of automatic payments, should apply for school age payment from 1 June 2023.'
As a result, it advises people who do not receive an automatic award to seek more information and apply at mygov.scot or by calling 0800 182 2222.

New research from the Centre for Analysis of Social Exclusion (CASE) at the London School of Economics has found no evidence that the two-child policy increases employment
Introduced in April 2017, the two-child policy - which limits support for children in means-tested benefits to a maximum of two children per household (unless limited exceptions apply) - is designed in part to incentivise employment among affected families.
Setting out its results in Making work pay? The labour market effects of capping child benefits in larger families, CASE finds that, despite a large sample size in the quantitative data and multiple methodological approaches, there is no evidence - even suggestive - that capping child benefits at two children increases employment.

Third sector organisations in Scotland to be paid a fee for providing information to support disability benefit claims
Confirming that a £33.50 fee will be paid when organisations are asked by Social Security Scotland to complete a supporting information request form, the Scottish Government says that -

'People who are applying for disability benefits who find it difficult or face barriers gathering supporting information themselves will be able to name organisations to provide this for them. These can include third sector organisations that are helping them in their day-to-day lives, such as those offering social care or support during an illness.'

The Scottish Government also confirmed that third sector organisations who were asked to provide supporting information for clients receiving child disability payment or adult disability payment before the fee payments process was in place will be able to have their payments backdated.

get ready, this is going to be a post long enough to qualify as a short story.
growing up i always had pets. when i was born we had two cats, who were relatively young, and two dogs, but both of those dogs died when i was a toddler or younger, i don't remember them. we got two more dogs, one when i was one, and another when i was four. i grew up with these animals. i loved them all very much.
when i was nine years old, my dog that we adopted when i was four died. rare disease. extremely sudden. i don't know the specifics but just that i was absolutely devastated, he was my dog, after all, i named him max, after max and ruby, because i was so little and i loved that show. all of my other pets continued to grow with me.
may 2021. one of my cat's health is declining. i am sixteen. she is twenty. june 2nd, she passes away in her sleep. i could get into more details but long story short, that was one of the worst, strongest feelings of grief i have ever experienced in my life, i cried day and night, i prayed for her to just come back, she was even in my dreams. i had never lost a cat before.
august 2021. a feral cat who refused to come inside that we had been taking care of for a year disappears. he just walked off one day and never came back. we still don't know where he went.
november 2021. my other senior cat, also twenty, the first one's twin, passes away. my mother took her to the vet and had her put down in the morning, and did not tell me until late that afternoon.
january 2022. my rabbit, adopted in 2016, has to be put down because she suddenly got an extremely aggressive cancer that was so bad she couldn't even hop anymore. we tried surgery first, it didn't work.
june 3rd 2022. my cat we adopted after our neighbors abandoned him in 2012 has to be put down due to numerous health issues. i buried him myself in our backyard.
august 2022. my dog we adopted when i was one, now seventeen, has to be put down.
six. six deaths in less than fifteen months. it's been almost a year since the last one but it is absolutely fucking haunting. in 2018 we adopted a cat, and in december 2021 we adopted two more, and we adopted a dog today. i have a dog still but he's getting old now too. sometimes when i'm with my cats i just can't help but break down imagining how one day i'll have to let them go. it's overwhelming. all the loss in such a short period of time. i genuinely would not wish this on anyone. it is not *like* losing a member of your family, it IS losing a member of your family, very literally. the trauma of all of this will undoubtedly stick with me for the rest of my life.
your pets still love you even if they're not with you physically. the bond between you is unbreakable; even death cannot stop it. i know that it's hard. but they're with you in spirit and they love you unconditionally. death is just a thing. they are the same as they always were.

The exception here is medical procedures that aren't really medically important, such as breast enlargement or a nose job. The exception to that exception would be things like cosmetic procedures that markedly improve a patient's quality of life, such as breast implants for someone gender transitioning or has undergone a mastectomy, facial reconstruction for someone who had a car accident or birth defect, things of that nature. Which is a tiny, tiny minority of all medical procedures so it wouldn't make much of a change to the total cost.
Here are some reasons I believe this:

1. For most people, it would save them money. Imagine, if you will, that all the money you put in insurance instead went to a big pot managed by a nonprofit which paid out when you need money for medical procedures. This would be just as effective as the US's current system, but it would save money because it would eliminate the profit-seeking motives of insurance companies. Now, imagine that instead of having a bunch of bureaucracy handling insurance payouts, it was simply paid for via taxes and the government covered healthcare. Wouldn't that also save money by reducing bureaucratic waste?
   1. "The government is wasteful" isn't a valid counterargument to this, because even if it's true that the government is more wasteful than private companies (and that that cost outweighs the benefits of publicizing healthcare), isn't the obvious response that we should force the government to be better, rather than accept the shitty system that's in place?
2. Healthcare is a human right. We live in a highly developed society, I think we can generally afford to lose some money on healthcare. We're human, aren't we? Aren't we supposed to help each other and work together?
3. Healthcare makes money. There are plenty of people in the US who choose not to get healthcare because they can't afford it. These people often then get sick and need more healthcare anyway, or even die. Dead people don't pay taxes. Keeping your populous alive and healthy requires an initial investment, but it's one that inevitably pays off in the end. Remember that the US pays more for healthcare than any other country in the world, but doesn't even come top 5 in most disease outcome rates (eg The US has a 33.1% stomach cancer 5-year survival rate, putting it at #9 globally, with #1 being South Korea at 68.9%).

And here are some rebuttals to common counterarguments:

1. "Countries with public healthcare have longer wait times"
   1. As mentioned before, despite spending the most on healthcare in the world, the US isn't even close to first in outcomes for many common diseases. In terms of wait time it is difficult to empirically measure wait time across different countries because they often measure them differently, but it doesn't seem that the US is too bad in this regard. An OECD study (that looked at 11 countries) on wait times showed that in terms of % of patients waiting more than 1 day for treatment, the US was #10 at 28%, in front of Canada at %33, with the best being Switzerland at 12%. In terms of % waiting more than 1 month (for a specialist appointment), the US was better at #4 with 27%, vs again Switzerland at 23%. So, there are plenty of countries with public healthcare that have shorter wait times than the US. Some of these countries, such as Switzerland, do have private healthcare, but crucially it is universal private healthcare and costs them much less than it does in the US.
2. "Doctor's wages would fall and therefore nobody would want to be a doctor"
   1. It's true that doctors in the US are generally the most highly paid in the world. However, the US doesn't even have more doctors than other countries. In terms of number of doctors per capita, The US has 2.6 doctors per 1000 people, behind countries like Australia and the Netherlands at 4.1, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and Sweden at 4.4, Or even Cuba at 8.4 for some reason. It seems like number of doctors per capita doesn't have a strong correlation on healthcare quality, but even in this regard the US is behind many other developed nations.
3. "The US innovates the most in Healthcare, which is why it costs so much"
   1. It's also true that the US is a major innovator in healthcare. However, according to the 2022 World Index of Healthcare Innovation, The US is #11 worldwide with a score of 50.66, behind countries like Switzerland, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Germany with scores and ranks of 66.49 (#1), 60.04 (#2), 59.86 (#3), and 58.42 (#4) respectively. In fairness, 2022 was a rather poor year for the US, as in 2021 it was #6 and in 2020 it was #4 worldwide. But, it'd still be behind countries with universal healthcare in both years.
4. "I don't want to pay for other people's healthcare"
   1. My rebuttal to this is that you should probably have empathy for other human beings. If everyone only paid for what they used, everyone would be poorer, because pooling resources together is more efficient and helps everyone in the long run.
5. "My taxes would go up"
   1. Yes, but your cost of health insurance would be removed. And as we've seen by the cost of healthcare in other countries, your taxes would go up less than the current cost of your healthcare, because of the lack of profit motive. If your employer pays for your healthcare, then they should increase your wage to compensate for their savings.

By the way, I'm not even American. I'm Australian. In Australia we have publicly-funded single-payer healthcare system, and every time I hear Americans talking about their healthcare system, it is incredibly obvious to me that our system is simply superior. We still pay for healthcare, but it's a vastly smaller amount that can be waived if you can't afford it. We also have private insurance, which covers things that Medicare (our public system) doesn't - stays in private hospitals (which generally have more comfortable rooms, and better ability to choose your doctors - but don't really have superior healthcare in and of itself), as well as dental and optical services which medicare doesn't cover.

I would still call our system in Australia insufficient, because of the headache that dealing with Medicare can be, and the fact that it doesn't cover everything. It is clear to me that having everything be single-payer would cost the same amount or less, would simplify and speed up the process of getting important healthcare, and would increase the availability of healthcare to those who need it.
