As much as I love Barry, my one complaint with the show was that starting with the third season, it feels like the show abandoned Barry's moral complexity. Part of what made the first two seasons so compelling to me was how conflicted Barry was; the dichotomy of his desire to change mixed with his violent actions was extremely interesting and made for a deeply sympathetic and fascinating character. And as fantastic as seasons 3 and 4 are, I couldn't help but feel the change was more of a reactionary overcorrection in response to how many fans (incorrectly) viewed Barry as a "good guy", instead as an earnest continuation of his character.

However, after obsessively watching Barry edits and reflecting on the show more, I think I'm starting to understand that this choice wasn't a misstep or a switch, but that instead of repeating the first 2 seasons in how it handled Barry's character, Barry is a portrait of what happens to someone who succumbs to their nature and refuses to take the steps to truly change themselves.

This is a theme prevalent throughout all the main cast in the show. Hank never accepted the fact that he was a big softie more fit to, in his own words, run a hotel rather than a criminal empire. He constantly forced himself to be a criminal in an attempt to be strong and powerful, but that's not who he was. In consequence, his nature constantly came in conflict with his actions, resulting in Hank being in a situation where he was not only miserable, but powerless when conflict arose in the form of Fuches. Hank could've gone straight with Cristobal or fully committed to being a criminal and achieving the strength he desired, but unable to change either himself or his actions, the two parts of him never stopped clashing, and resulted in him being killed by way of emotional vulnerability (his guilt over Cristobal directly impacted the events preceding his death.)

Sally is far from the worst person in the show, but she's certainly no saint either. She's selfish, egotistical, and jealous, mostly caring primarily about her own fame for most of the show. By the end, she has changed some- she is seemingly more caring towards others, namely her son, and has gained more control of her life, having the strength to say "no" to a man, which is something she's lacked for most of her life. In fact, after the amount of trauma she's overcome, you would think she would be a completely different person, and on some accounts, she is. But when her son tells Sally he loves her, all she can ask in response is if her show was good, and as she drives home, alone, the thing that brings her satisfaction is the flowers she's received for her work (literally). Yes, Sally is a markedly better person and it brings me joy to see her at peace, but it's implied her core desires haven't changed: she wants to be admired. She wants to be seen. She wants her work to be appreciated. And this is what takes priority in her mind above all else, if to a significantly lesser extent. In her defense, there are worse things to want, but nevertheless, part of her remains untouched and unchanged.

Gene is kind of like turbo-Sally. Selfish, egotistical, impulsive, desiring fame above all else, except he's had much more time to wallow in his faults than Sally, which means they are probably much more deep set. Constantly throughout the show, he is unable to kick his selfish nature, especially in the fourth season. Despite claiming to want justice for Janice, he talks to Lon O'Neill in order to paint himself as a hero and to put on an extravagant show. After coming back to the U.S after 8 years in order to stop production of a Barry biopic for noble reasons, he immediately backtracks after finding out he may be played by Daniel Day-Lewis, and agrees to help with the movie. And in maybe his most tragically selfish and impulsive decision of all, he kills Barry to soothe his desire for vengeance despite Barry being willing to turn himself in, finally letting Janice rest in peace once and for all. Gene is constantly on the cusp of changing, but is simply unable to give up his desire for fame and personal gratification.

And then we have Barry. Poor Barry. He started as quite possibly the most redeemable character in the show and ended as the most ontologically irredeemable. Barry is sort of a microcosm for all the characters in the show: the first two seasons are about his trying to change, and the last two are about his failure, and what that looks like. Trying and failing, like everyone else. The issue with Barry is that he never put in the steps to change his nature and his actions. He could've not killed Chris. He could've not killed Moss. He could've turned himself in at any point and while he may not have had the life he so desired, he would've finally found that change he was looking for. Of course, he didn't. In what is probably a mixture of selfishness and his signature stupidity, he constantly made choices to go against his morals and conscience in order to protect himself, despite wanting to stop. I think Hader's comparison of Barry to an addict is very fitting, and that's what makes season 2 so tragic. Yes, he had already killed Chris and Moss and scores of other people, but for almost all of season 2, he doesn't kill anyone. In fact, he lets people live! He doesn't kill Esther or Sam, and even tries to save Ronny Proxin after being ordered to kill him. But because of his refusal to truly take responsibility for his past actions, at the end of season 2, he succumbs to his nature once again. With the monastery shooting, Barry's fate has been sealed in his own head, and he abandons his quest for true change entirely. After spending his entire life running from taking the actions necessary for true change, it drives him near insane, and by the end of season 4, he is nearly unrecognizable. He's violent, unabashedly selfish, delusional, rageful, abusive- a far cry from the self-aware, guilt-ridden hitman with noble desires we knew at the start of the show. I think that's partly why his death is played as a joke: like the show itself is saying "Really? After 8 years on the run from the law and from your conscience, you think now is the time to change?"

Fuches is interesting because he changes the most out of anyone. The most deplorable, manipulative, evil character in the whole show rounds out his arc with an action of true kindness and empathy. Through accepting himself and who he was, he was able to actually mold his actions into something positive. Despite this, Fuches admits he never changed. He accepted who he was: a man with no heart. And while that is shown to be not entirely true by his saving of John, he never altered who he was, just accepted it, which freed him. This, in itself, is an action towards making real change in yourself, but Fuches doesn't seem too keen to alter himself. He's perfectly happy with who he is.

This is, of course, all very cynical and sad. But it fits. No one in the show ever truly changes. They delude themselves into thinking they can, or they ignore the fact that they want to change, or don't even desire to fix the problems in themselves. And out of the many themes and messages in Barry, this one was the most revelatory upon realization, and impacted how I processed the show in a major way.

Outcome: viewers will be confused as to why Rebecca eventually softened towards Ted. We also don’t get the backstory about Ted’s father
Ted having panic attacks: “Hi y’all, sorry I disappeared for a while there. I got the yips version of coaching.” Next episode we see him exiting Dr. Sharon’s office, and having resolved his panic attacks.
Outcome: not seeing Ted’s journey with his mental health issues reduces the impact of his struggles
Jamie fighting with his dad: we see the drunken group making their way towards the locker room and minutes later we see them being kicked out by Beard. The team looks on as Jamie cries on Roy’s shoulder
Outcome: not seeing Jamie confront his dad and having his catharsis, aided by Roy, weakens Jamie’s triumph over his father’s abusive behaviour
Roy deciding on being a coach at Richmond: one moment Roy is on TV giving his speech. The next scene he’s at the pitch. As Ted and Beard look at him, Roy says “fuck off.”
Outcome: Roy’s journey to the stadium signifies how much he wants to be there. It’s full of small hurdles, such as finding the right transportation, which also affords multiple comedic moments. This shows that Roy is swallowing his pride to be where he wants to be. Not showing this sequence would rob us of the pleasure of seeing Roy’s character advancement
Seasons 1 and 2 chose to show a lot of character-changing development, so even though episodes were shorter, they were more meaningful. The honest conversations that people had with one another, and how they dealt with adversity, was a big part of why Ted Lasso was so great.
This season a lot of significant moments happened off-screen. Roy and Keeley broke up. Nate quit his job. Ted told the team he was leaving. Collin came out to his team mates. These are all painful or uncomfortable scenes. Leaving them out deprived us of character moments that showed how they progressed and what motivated their actions in the next step of their lives.
Instead the show focused on people who were non-essential to the main narratives, such as Zava, Jack and Shandy. This is why even though episodes were longer, they were less satisfactory. We did not have the imperceptible, yet significant connections that moved the characters forward in their emotional journey.

Quick recap. Bought the PC about 2 years ago. After a few months got random BSODs, usually every 2 or 3 days. About 2 months ago the frequency of BSODs intensified. Around 20 mins after booting up my PC. I was getting around 3-4 BSODs every day. Took it to MicroCenter, they did a diagnostic and said to replace the SSD and RAM, which I did. Got it home, first thing I see is a BSOD. Asked a friend knowledgeable about computers for help, recommend me to switch OS from Windows 11 to 10, did a clean install, made sure my drivers were up to date, run CHKDSK/sfc /scannow, everything else he could think of. Got one BSOD all of last month, which is a lot better considering how bad it was before. Got another BSOD today and I'm starting to freak out that this problem is never going away.
After a clean OS install, I'm guessing the only thing left that it could be is a hardware issue. If I replaced the motherboard, CPU, GPU and power supply, surely that should fix whatever the problem is, right?

Since the last last BSOD I updated the BIOS and also disabled fast startup.

I am looking for resources in Carroll County to direct my daughter and son in law to. My daughter had her first child January 1st. Just after Christmas she had an acute attack of pancreatitis, which is what pushed her into labor. Her labor was complicated by the pancreatitis, and there were some real scary moments for us all, but her son was born, healthy and beautiful - he really is the one blessing in all of this. After the birth she had her Gall bladder removed to address the pancreatitis. While performing the endoscopy the technician noticed an irregularity in her stomach, so he took a small sampling of the cells, which turned out to be cancer. She had planned to be out of work for only three weeks after the birth because she does not receive paid maternity leave, however, between the gall bladder removal and recovering from birth she was out for 6 weeks, 4 of them without pay. She returned to work for a little more than a month, and then was out of work again, without pay, for the surgery to remove the cancerous mass from her stomach, for another 4 weeks. When they tested the biopsies taken from around the site, they determined that they had not gotten all of the cancer, and she will need to return for a more invasive surgery, requiring a longer recovery time. She opted to remain in work through the summer busy season to try and build up their savings before she is out of work again in October. Just after she received this diagnosis, her husband hurt his back at work. He tried to work through it, but could only work limited hours, further reducing their overall income. Now he out of work, for the past couple of weeks, and for at least a month more for recovery. Worker's comp payments have not started yet, but the application is in. They don't know how they are going to make rent, their accounts are overdrawn, their car payment is past due, and my daughter is driving to work illegally every day because her car wouldn't pass inspection (she needs muffler replaced), and she can't afford to fix it. We (the rest of the family - parents, siblings, etc) are doing everything we can to help, but it just isn't enough - we can't cover their bills and our own. Does anyone know of any resources, besides public assistance (I am helping her with application already), I can direct her to help her out?

I'm watching Star Trek for the first time and so far I'm loving it! I'm starting from TOS and then moving onto everything in release order! Ive been told I should be starting with other shows for timeline sake but this is the way I want to experience it! I'm halfway through season one and Dr. McCoy is my favorite character so far!

Please no spoilers as I’m trying to preserve the surprise but this show is truly amazing, for many reasons as you all know, but the writing and the secrecy around Vorlons, leading up to ambassador Kosh’s reveal in the season 2 finale, is one of the best arcs I’ve seen in sci-fi.
Not going to get into it further but I am so souped to watch the next 3 seasons. Thanks god for Tubi. Also the show is so good I average about 1 -2 episodes a week and am savoring it. The writing the acting everything.

I'll start by saying this. Excuse me for my naiveness / lack of knowledge. I am going to assume the games seasons will work like they did in Diablo 3 (though that doesn't say much for me). So I was mostly looking for some clarification on some stuff (if we even know the answer yet).
-Will characters that go from seasonal to nonseasonal / normal be redundant? Basically, will they be able to still play newly released content in the seasons, or will they be "stuck in time" of season 1 / launch game?
-Since season 1 is launching later and not on the offical launch day, I'm going to guess / hope that our characters created now will transfer over and work as seasonal characters for season 1? Or will we have to start a new one?
-What even is the main difference between seasonal and nonseasonal characters? As far as I've understood it, it's just "nonseasonal characters can't participate in seasonal activities", but what does that actually mean in the game? Can't progress the battle pass? can't participate in unique dungeons or game modes? And if any of these are the case, again, doesn't that kinda make nonseasonal characters useless / redundant?

It is so lovely to meet everyone, i say preemptively on this fine (almost!) summer evening. I don't want to be a downer but the truth is life has not provided me with a great deal of lasting friendship, I truly don't know why. I see to get so attached to the people who enter my life, and for the most part, people walk right out of just as easily as they entered. It's not a complaint really, life has a season for everything and the seasons for those friendships were all beautiful in there own right. I currently have two friendships that have lasted over a year and I'm hopeful for their future as well, they're good ones! Anyway, I believe one can never have too many connections in this world, life is short and one can always learn about others. Making friends and becoming part of someone else's life is purely a beautiful thing.
As for me, I am just a 26 year old guy from NY, no actually not the city but the outskirts of it. I'd love to move away from it all soon enough though, to venture out into a less inhabited world and have some adventures with the people I care most about. My family and friends. I am interested in all forms of arts, music, and simply the beauty of life. I feel as if we can capture it by expressing ourselves, each in our individual way. Let's maybe try to share a wee bit about ourselves and have a grand time while we are at it. P.S. if you are from Colorado, Utah, or the surrounding area (wide range I know lol) it would extra nice to talk. I was hoping to move to the area in the next few years, it would be nice to learn some and if we become really good friends maybe we can even meet in time 😊.

So my bpd ex did the usual. Super loving sometimes, up & down about us, accusing me of cheating a lot, making me jealous with other women, assuming the worst, losing his temper on me, make things for me to reach out when I wasn’t talking & calling me names. etc
I use to have anger issues & a lot of mental health struggles because I grew up in an abusive home but got therapy. So I was very patient & understanding. I can’t really think of a time during the relationship I wasn’t. I didn’t even know he had bpd I just thought he had bad anxiety cause his divorce was recent. I’d tried to help ground him a lot & hold his hand. He’d tell me I been the best person to him But It got to a point where even my friends who liked him a lot started to be like forget this.
Well we had a final break up which got messy. . I also got tired because ppl were like sounds like he wants you to chase him. I also think he wanted me to go crazy cause I told him about past stuff I regretted like damaging an exes property after the dude cheated on me & my bpd ex said “that’s hot how do I get you to do that?” I was also sick w/ covid & finally took him back after he asked me for a month. So final break up I start wondering if he’s cheating & I check his phone & the numbers. He finds out & screams at me that I’m a psycho then 3way phones his boss in who I guess was one of the numbers. We don’t talk for months.
He unblocks me & we talk again & start getting intimate again. I played it cool a lot like I didn’t react to our break up but the whole time I missed him . Well he finds out I’m talking to other people cause he said he didn’t care. He definitely did care because he messaged them how I’m desperate & crazy. I finally lost my shit after also finding out he’s been telling his friends, family & any stranger he met online the same plus also my private details about my life like my infertility issues.
So I started posting him in girl dating groups to warn people about him. I message people one of the girls he flirts with & tell her all the bad things he says about her. He finds out. He shows people the screenshots & uses it as now proof that he was right i am crazy. I start struggling with old ptsd symptoms again which made me more mad. I wanted to show him I’m not the one to fuck with and also to quit telling my private business.
So I message people that are close to him that he needs mental help. I show them screenshots of him admitting to stalking me , him guilt tripping me and crying , threatening to hurt himself etc. I message his friends that are girls how he is crazy & to be careful & here’s him harassing me & here’s him playing mind games. I messaged his friend who I found out covered for him when he met up with a girl and his wife. Part of me felt great cause I was having random anger all the time and felt like I was defending myself . Some I think I looked crazy& some I think believed me. He found out about it . So sometimes I feel bad that he got embarrassed, that now he’s making it like I harassed him & I hate that he got a reaction out of me.
Idk I just need to vent? Some Of my friends kinda lecture me and some say it’s well deserved

I (32M) have been married to my wife (30F) for five years. Recently, she developed a keen interest in gardening and started taking care of several plants in our home. While I understand and appreciate her newfound hobby, I can't help but feel neglected and jealous of the attention she gives to her plants. I can’t explain it, but seeing the joy on her face when she’s around her plants and looking after them brings me indescribable rage. We used to spend a lot of quality time together before she gave birth to our son, and I feel like for the little time she does have, it should be spent on me and not her plants. This gardening obsession was the final straw.
Last week, my wife went out of town for a couple of days to visit her family and for a break from our son. I saw this as an opportunity to take matters into my own hands. I researched different plant toxins and ended up using a mild poison on a few of her favorite plants.
When my wife returned home, she immediately noticed that her plants were withering and dying. She was devastated and couldn't understand what had happened.
She started blaming herself for the plants dying, and because she had become so invested in them, her whole demeanour changed. She was incredibly upset, and came to me for comfort. I couldn’t help but feel a little bit guilty, but at the same time, I revelled in the feeling of being needed. I know I intentionally upset her by poisoning her plants, but I feel like I did it for the greater good. She told me she felt like a failure, and that focusing her time and attention on her plants between looking after our son, helped her mental health.
Despite this, I still don’t think what I did was selfish, I really do think it was for the greater good. It was good to experience affection for just a moment - which is something i’ve been struggling with and talking to my friends about.
They’ve known we haven’t had a great sex life, and that i’ve been missing affection. After giving them updates on our intimacy, and how poisoning her plants had helped us grow closer, one of my mates got quite upset and took personal offence. After a bit of a passive aggressive argument, he threw out that I should post on here to get others opinion, and that it wouldn’t be what I expect.
I don’t think what I did was wrong. Yes, I felt a little guilt poisoning her plants, but at the same time, seeing her sad and needing me felt really good. I’m hoping that this will be catalytic in us rekindling our intimacy and sex life.
I’m mostly posting this to prove my friend wrong, but I just needed validation that I wasn’t the asshole.

Now the seasons over, we thought it might be fun to play a game over the summer of Guess who. There will be one a day over the summer, of varying difficulties (from pretty obvious, to pisstakingly hard). Whoever gets the most correct answers will win next seasons shirt (Home, Away or Third. Winners choice). Just for the sake of competition, try not to post your answers in this thread.

So, there has been a lot of discussion this season regarding how “fair” the competition has felt. Personally, I do think the tops and bottoms on AS8 have been mostly fair. I would have personally made a different decision here and there, but that’s the nature of preference. But overall, I can definitely see the justifications for the winners and the bottoms.
That said, the competition definitely feels lopsided. Jimbo is now riding her third win, while the only other winners are Jessica and Kahanna who have also found themselves in the bottom. The disparity is very wide, but the fix is seemingly simple.
Bring back the Top 2 All Stars format! I’ve felt the one winner format change on All Stars 5 was always a mistake. When it comes to these AS seasons, you tend to have multiple queens slay the challenges and it feels right to give more than one queen her flowers for a job well done. It also evens out the entire competition and makes it more plausible that multiple girls can win.
Just look at AS2 and AS3. On AS3, Dela was having a very Jimbo-esque run where she had won nearly every challenge. It felt deserved but at the same time, there wasn’t as much despair because Shangela was right on her tracks. Alaska had a very dominating run on AS2, but the top two format allowed other queens to shine as well.
While I would definitely miss the Lip Sync Assassin which allows more beloved queens return and showcase themselves, but I think it would be an okay sacrifice to be able to return to a format that better empowers the actual queens competing on the season.
