The boar is not dead, though to all the other hunters’ senses it is. It lays motionless on its side within the sled, tied down by rope with two arrows sticking discordantly out of its hide like seams of broken bone. Frozen blood pools in the cracked stomach of the sled, collecting rather than leaking now that red ice has sealed the wood. Poison leaching out of the arrowheads keeps the boar docile, and its breathing so light that only Trapper can see. An ovate in too-thin robes shivers as she ties a garland of rosemary around the beast’s neck, murmuring prayers to the ancestors that they might find the kill worthy.
Winter has seized the land in its vise, its unending waves of cold and snow having transformed the Barony of Marlas into a crueler scape, one Trapper doesn’t quite recognize. Tranquility abounds along the driven snow, all through the clearing, hiding the buried world and the woes of man but unable to snuff them out. Trapper knows well what a mirage it is, the oppressive winters of his homeland no less savage than the bloodletting summers. The numbing cold does not soothe his aches, for he knows they’ll be worse come morning, come the thaw. Too soon this clearing will melt, its river gone from white to red, the whole Septima Line thrust back to war.
Baron Orys refuses to yield to midnight season, to accept its peace, and so from his great warhorse’s saddle he brazenly belts out a mixture of drunken lyrics and commands, determined to master this hunt even if he does not partake. An entourage on horseback spreads out in his orbit, ranging from eager young footmen to grizzled junkers, all in varying states of inebriation at his command. Their braying is nearly louder than the hounds’, who hungrily stalk between the sled and the hole they pulled the boar out from. Teased by the hunt but yet unrewarded, they’re too unruly to be kept in check by the kennel master.
On foot slog the unfortunates who actually have to take part in the hunt, Trapper among them. They huddle into their hemp canvas cloaks, glancing up at the moody afternoon sky threatening to crack open with another snowstorm. Dark clouds sweep in low from the south like a riptide, a single vast current swept in from the mountains already menacing the Oldwoods. Its furthest gales reach them as tongues of vengeful cold, flecks of whipped-up snow biting into Trapper’s exposed skin.
By the boar’s nest leans a typical Mallean, one of Trapper’s two erstwhile comrades. Sigorn is tall, pale, broad, with the close-set, wide-boned features of a commoner, and a shock of red hair grown out to protect against the elements. Beneath his cloak he proudly bears his blood-flecked armor, each dent a Darkman put into it a point of dear pride. He’s not the only one, either, the clearing filled with dozens of youths whose first blooding ended in victory amid a blizzard. Baron Orys, deep into his cups after six days of nonstop celebration, saw a break in the storms and gladly called a hunt. When informed he could not go on account of his shattered knee - he simply grinned, and ordered himself tied to his saddle.
Trapper remembers the moment his lord fell from the saddle, burned into his nerves. The screaming of horses, skidding hooves catching on the frozen ground. On the edges of his vision a rider smashes into a branch in the din, others don’t move at all for fear of the blizzard. His spurs dig, his borrowed steed whines, and he races for his lord - only for another to reach him first.
“What a woman.” Sigorn sighs beside Trapper, craning his neck to look at one of their lord’s companions of honor. Susannah Oye, junker unlike the others, a pretty, willowy noblewoman well into motherhood, with the lean, ruthless look of a ranger. Her two poisoned arrows are what struck the boar down, and her pride curls off her body like steam. Sigorn’s face cracks into exaggerated appreciation, and then he turns to their lord’s other honored companion. Another woman, this one as young as they are, haughtily-built and leering with none of Susannah’s refinement. Many of those looks are reserved for Trapper, forced to slog on foot as just another hunter. “Anya too. I think she fancies you, eh?”

So I need advice I dunno if it’ll even be reached but to ask for this advice y’all gotta know who I am and some details,possible trigger extremely toxic parents and living experience and SA . So I’m Faye for internet reasons and my birth mother is S, dad is D and mom is M. When I was little S and D went through a nasty divorce that resulted in broke bones homes and lives after a grueling two year period little me ends up living with D during this time up until my 15th birthday my father was a loving but hard parent the son of a military vet very big on corporal punishment but not a bad man well the first instances I have of my mother are Thursday visits that consisted of a park visit and her telling me how awful my father was and how he was keeping me from her so from the time I was 10 years old till 11 I heard once a week that my father was trash this was step one of her many year plan . Once I turned 12 and many more court dates later S gained weekend visits and holidays rotating those with D. At first these visits were semi harmless a trip four hours away to my grandparents house a new game for my DSI and the mention of her own house with a man let’s call him L . Well the semi harmless visits to my grand parents changed around the end of my 12th year and 13th birthday and thus begun a hell that would last until I was 14. Now I had met L a short stocky man with a son let’s call him J . Within the first visit I watched L break my mothers arm and J began molesting me and as any scared person would do we said nothing so from then until my 14th year early into it my mother suffered constant physical abuse and every other weekend and holidays I was being sexually assaulted by an older teen . L used to take my phone so I couldn’t call for help if I ever got brave. So one day I did I snuck my phone from L’s pocket and ran out of the house to a near by creek and frantically called my dad and told him of only my mothers abuse. The only thing I remember after that was him picking me up flash forward I’m 15 and living with S I know why she lived near a better school and I wanted the best for myself and thought I could just push through four years of her I was so wrong . I am a 17-year-old high school student from Canada, and ever since I was 15, I have been certain about my desire to become an entrepreneur. The driving force behind my passion is the exhilarating experience of tackling problems head-on and dedicating my thoughts solely to finding solutions. I have ADHD, and although I find it challenging to focus on uninteresting tasks, I enter a state of intense concentration when I'm engaged in something that captivates me. It's a deeply satisfying feeling.
It didn't take long for me to realize that entrepreneurship was my calling. At the age of 16, I also recognized a pattern in a country's growth and development. Typically, there are periods of conflict and numerous challenges before the nation gradually enters a more stable and progressive phase, resulting in exponential growth across various sectors. However, I felt discontented living in a highly competitive country where there were limited opportunities for creating something new, unlike countries that hadn't experienced rapid growth.
This led me to contemplate what I could do differently, and I had a realization. Since my parents and I are immigrants from Africa (I arrived at such a young age that I don't even remember my birth country), I became aware that although my original country is relatively stable now with no war, it still faces problems such as hunger, electricity shortages, and supply-demand imbalances. Additionally, I have an uncle who holds a significant position within the government.
With these considerations in mind, I thought to myself, "Why not leverage my circumstances to generate profit?" I know that my father owns extensive plots of land, some of which are being developed into farms while others remain vast, empty spaces. Moreover, the cost of constructing houses or buildings in my birth country is substantially different from that in Canada.
This sparked the following ideas:

1. As soon as I can manage it, I intend to work tirelessly for around 12 hours a day, taking on jobs like Ubering, DoorDashing, and remote work opportunities (given my language skills in English, Arabic, Turkish, and some Mandarin). By pushing myself to the limit and maximizing my earning potential, I believe I can generate a minimum annual income of $60,000. With that capital, I plan to construct a hotel or luxury homes within an affordable range. Furthermore, I intend to have a conversation with my uncle, exploring ways to operate more freely instead of being viewed solely as a foreign investor or an average citizen.
   
2. Simultaneously, I aim to save money diligently and pursue a degree in electrical engineering, mastering the subject thoroughly. My goal is to establish a solar energy company that addresses the growing demand for electricity.
   
3. My father possesses at least four plots of land spanning 10km to 15km, which he intended to convert into farms but hasn't taken action due to a lack of knowledge and motivation. These lands are exceptionally fertile. One of them is situated in an area where a city is currently under construction. I have the opportunity to purchase it from my father at a reasonable price and develop a farm for sale or export. Additionally, I could use another piece of land to construct apartment buildings within the same city. I'm also aware of Sudanese refugees and other individuals seeking homes in the area due to its convenience. Given that the region is predominantly occupied by my clan (which falls within a larger tribe), many clan members own land but lack the means to initiate projects. Consequently, numerous individuals are open to selling their land, providing me with potential investment opportunities.

The tests all came back positive and the sentient was, according to the Meldren researchers, extremely capable when it came to fighting other sentients. For now I could place less worry on the apparent sentient infestation back at home and focus on the next thing in my massive list of shit to deal with. Worrying about the results of the situation back there was not my current job, at least now I have a plan for protecting the people here if the home team didn’t come out on top.
The next most pressing matter was what my Pioneer managed to do in the short time he was here. In the first 24 hours that kid managed to strike up friendly relations with high-tech aliens, somehow wrest us control of the whole system barring their home planet, piss off an entire race of war-hungry goat people and in the same stride become a hero for a bunch of other alien races. He was supposed to be holed up in a galactic prison right now, but Governor Sind let me know that he had probably already given them the slip and was heading here right now.
It was a mess, but it was one that I could work with. I’d have to make Dominique our poster boy for public relations whether he liked it or not since he already managed to score positive attention from numerous governments. If we could solidify those admirers of his as allies and start making a network of united powers, we could create a safety net to rely on in the event that help is needed back at home. The biggest problem with this plan was that those races may not be too eager to team up with us just yet considering we are at the brink of a war with the people they all historically lost to. They probably weren’t looking for a round 2 and getting them to move might be a slog depending on how stingy the Grahtonians wanted to be.
My ship is currently in low orbit and mostly non-operational since all non-essential functions were shut down while the sentient was being evaluated. Thanks to the circumstances that affected the Pioneer and our inconceivably early arrival to the destination, none of the colonies have been prepared outside of one city. The hundreds of thousands of people in cryosleep on the ship are liabilities until they can be transferred to finished habitations with online defense systems. The city that was already built could technically fit everyone on the ship, but I wasn’t keen on putting all of my eggs in one basket when we could go under fire at any moment.
I didn’t have the leeway to go out there and provide aid for my Pioneer. I wasn’t too worried for him, that man had a mostly good head on his shoulders when it came to staying out of sight and evading the consequences of his actions. I needed to worry about myself in case some less-than-agreeable company decided to show up. As long as I can get the weapons systems up and running-

The space station we decided to refuel at was a bit on the smaller side and had its age shown on display. The ship we left on didn’t have enough charge for a full trip to the Meldren system, nor did it have much of anything else. While I could technically make it there conventionally without having to eat, not only would it take too long but I also definitely wouldn’t be happy about it. Plus, there was also Dokchara to worry about.
Even if I wasn’t the only human in this entire sector of the galaxy, my face was recently plastered on every network and media platform. Fortunately, the emergency evacuation suits worked by covering the user and forming up based on their body shape. The head parts for these suits were domes of completely tinted glass to accommodate a multitude of races, but it also worked nicely as a way to hide my identity. I could pass off as some tall bipedal race without much suspicion.

After Dokchara finished talking with the station crew about refueling and supplies, we left the docking bay to look for somewhere to eat. The bay exit led straight to the station’s commercial district and it wasn’t too long before we found a place with not many people so we could avoid attention, the “Stray Lounge.”
Considering the name of the establishment, I walked in expecting to find something like those old Bars on earth, and while there was indeed a bar and bartender, there was also a waiter, so this place could pass off as a restaurant. We sat down and had menus handed to us along with some water. I was thankful that they hadn’t gone with digital menus since it’d be a hassle to navigate to it with my head computer on top of attracting weird looks.
Seeing them offer pure ethanol as an option would have caused me to choke on my water if I didn’t have a synthetic throat. I get that biologies are varied beyond extremes and that to some people, that may as well just be water but how could something like that even taste good? It wasn’t even flavored.
I decided to get a drink from the inoffensive list since I’d rather not stumble across the one drink that was capable of melting metal or anything. I let Dok order the food since he was the hungry one here and he knew better about what this stuff meant than me. It seemed like a slow day for the place, as there were only a couple people at the bar and a group of three at one of the other tables, so the food and drinks were prepared almost immediately.

It's weird, but whether the imaginings are good or bad change on what stage of life I'm currently in. But the core of me stays the same, and I see that core interacting in made up scenarios depicting all sorts of things.
But the root of all of my imagination is the same: whatever journey, the outcome is consistent. Happiness. Love. Children and a home.
It's these particulars I change over and over. Maybe I'll get a BMW, maybe I'll get several. Maybe I won't stick to a car at all or maybe I'll go without a vehicle altogether. Maybe I'll live in the mountains, or by the sea like I've always dreamed. Maybe I'll finally get a houseboat.
More things are becoming known to me after having epiphanies over and over: I'll definitely own a business because I can't stand working for people. I'll quickly shut down or redirect conversations in which there is too much negativity. I am learning my boundaries and learning my generational traumas now.
And yet, after each new reveal, there is no fear anymore. I used to resent this change. I used to loathe people that pushed me out of my comfort zone. But I always felt lonely inside of it. Now, with my hardened and learned heart, I know change is inevitable.
I see it in the residents I care for. They are much like children - moody and rapidly changing - but with this comes the realization that we ARE children, no matter how old we get. For who are we compared to the age of the cosmos?
And I have learned grace and acceptance through these epiphanies.
I am quick to anger (played in a lot of scenarios, I acknowledge it) but I also hold pride that I am quick to forgive. I don't hate anyone anymore. I don't hate myself anymore either. And though I may falter and though I may cause earthquakes through my rage, I am just like everyone else.
I am not special. Nor am I unimportant. I just am, and we just are. And because of this mortality, I can see my life.
I can definitely say that I'm not scared. I hope none of you are either.

Some background: - My dad and I were in a very nasty car accident yesterday. The accident was not our fault; the passenger of the other car admitted that the driver was not paying attention when she turned into us. - My father maintains that we were going 35 mph, which is the speed limit of the area we were driving in. - It was more of a head-on collision than a T-bone, despite her turning and us going straight. She turned almost right as we passed her. - I sustained serious bruising from the seat belt and airbags but no broken bones/internal issues. I had a bariatric surgery 2 weeks prior and the bruising is pretty much all along my incision area. I am a little worried about possible long term effects. - My father received 4 fractured ribs, a fractured sternum, and a compression fracture in his spine. - My father has been home for around 6-7 months following an 8 month stay at a hospital that forced him into retirement and onto permanent disability. If I need to go into that I will. - I don’t think the driver or passenger of the other car were severely injured, as the passenger of the other car seemed like she walking around unhindered while my father and I could hardly move. The driver was sitting on the sidewalk but seemed otherwise uninjured.
Do you think we have a claim? Our family has had small accidents in the past but nothing that has ever landed anyone in the hospital so we’re all in the dark. The car alone will cost 45k to fix and we do NOT have that kind of money. Thanks for hearing me out!

Hi everyone just wanted to come on here and see if anyone has sacrificed a couple of years of work at a company for the overall gain in the future. I know lots of companies try and provide lots of monetary benefits outside of just salary to keep employees there, but they might not have the best work/life balance.
A little bit about my situation:
23yrs old currently living at home with my parents (no kids) and been working for 1 year at my company. I just became eligible for the retirement benefits as of today. My company offers amazing benefits for insurance (even though I’m still on my parents), 8% 401k match (vested over 5 years), 10% profit sharing, decent EOY bonus, and other gifts throughout the year. We receive semi annual salary adjustments as well which is nice.
Only downside is I tend to work a lot of hours averaging roughly 45-50hrs/ week and sometimes around 55hrs.
While I know I have a great job on paper it has been very draining trying to meet project schedules, billable hour rates, and having time outside of work for hobbies. It has been a great company to work for benefits and work wise, but definitely not a company I’d like to stay at long term when I do decide to move out or have a family.
Wanted to see if others on this subreddit have sacrificed a couple of years of work as well for the future. Definitely cannot say how fortunate I am having this job straight out of college but compared to my others peers, it seems like they have less work stress for a little bit less pay and better hours as well.

So I'm so impressed with the Move since buying it the other week that I want to grab another one for stereo.
It would be really cool if I could get a travel router set up with the same ssid as my home network and have the Moves work in stereo away from home like at a beach party or something... And then just reintegrate back into my home network seemlesly...
Does anyone know if such a set up would work even if the travel router didn't have access to the internet for some reason?
I've got a small Jackery so I should enough juice to run the mobile router for a while and the Moves will run on their own batteries

U.S. Postal Service Releases Dog Bite National Rankings

The campaign runs Sunday, June 4, through Saturday, June 10. This year’s theme is “Even good dogs have bad days.” Spread the news of the campaign with the hashtag #dogbiteawareness.
“When letter carriers deliver mail in our communities, dogs that are not secured or leashed can become a nemesis and unpredictable and attack,” said Leeann Theriault, USPS employee safety and health awareness manager. “Help us deliver your mail safely by keeping your dog secure and out of the way before your carrier arrives.”

I wish USPS would join with other industries that deal with people at home, like utilities, internet, cleaning, etc in this. I know people in these fields who have been bitten by "good dogs" in customer's homes multiple times. I wish this could be a more concerted effort with way better advertising. God knows it's needed.
