Canada) my AE86 got a fresh motor the night before, showed up to clerk but the community decided I should hop on track! First run was 2nd fastest overall, but on my quickest lap I lost power. Thankfully not a major issue and finished 3rd overall in PAX and RAW. Curious if we have other clerks here and how often do you guys race? How big are your usual events? Hey everyone I am new to From, just binge watched it over this weekend and want to talk about Jim’s theory. Jim’s theory is definitely really interesting and while I don’t think it will be as simple as a government conspiracy it’s a theory that is worth talking about. So Jims theory essentially is that the government is running an experiment on people, which isn’t too far fetched as in our real life our own government has done awful things for science/experimentation. Now I am not an expert writer and this may be all over the place but I want to add my thoughts and questions for this theory so bear with me! If this seems all over the place sorry! Also I am NOT a professional when it comes to anything, just someone who enjoys theories and tv!
 1. This being a science experiment could explain the hallucinations(maybe). So it doesn’t take a lot of research to know that many governments including the U.S. experimented to try and make powerful hallucinogens/drugs back in the day(MK ultra, LSD, Sidney Gottlieb etc) now putting a twist on that for tv would make it really interesting. Maybe only some people are affected by it, maybe some experience it worse than others etc. it’s been said in the show many times that people experience the place differently. How the hallucinogen would be dispersed I have no idea but all their food comes from this place, their water comes from this place, everything is from this place. This is far fetched but it could be pumped into peoples houses for all we know. This may sound goofy but anyone who has watched Sherlock, there’s an episode where they release a mist that causes the characters to hallucinate giant hounds, this could be something similar to what those who are hallucinating are seeing. As to why it doesn’t affect everyone… idk. Maybe some are more susceptible than others. Or it’s ghosts(but I’ll have that posted lower) 
  1. If it’s the government then how do they keep them stuck in there? Maybe it’s not the government keeping them stuck “intentionally.” The idea that the government maybe found this place and is now studying it and using it as a place for experimentation seems like it makes a lot of sense. It had me thinking of the movie Old or the book it’s based on Sandcastle. Spoiler if you have not seen Old!!
Now in Old it’s revealed at the end that this is all an experiment/observation on the beachgoers to see the effects the rocks have on them and why it caused the rapid aging. We know that in Old the rocks have a strong pull and won’t let the people leave, they get to sick and can’t make it through, but they can enter through the rocks just fine. So what if the characters in From can enter the forest just fine but can’t leave. Now maybe the military stumbles upon this place or they somehow figured out that so many people are going missing in some central area(similar to the Bermuda Triangle?) and realizes that there’s something odd going on. It’s possible that the military isn’t even using hallucinogens but are instead trying to figure out what goes on here. We don’t know much about the lighthouse yet, could be a hideout. Still an awful experiment though as they would be willingly letting people enter this dangerous place and die.
  1. The changing of weatheplants are struggling to grow. Victor mentions that nothing has ever changed, but during season 1 early on he talks about how he tracks the trees and how close they’re getting. Additionally we’ve seen now in season 2 that the trees are changing with the seasons, plants are dying and that the characters are wearing warmer clothing. That rain essentially brought the changing of seasons, why? Maybe the government was worried that they were getting too close to the truth? Maybe the government is trying to have them make tough decisions. While i think them conjuring up a rainstorm may be a little far fetched but then again this is tv and there are scary monsters.
  2. The government didn’t create the monsters, they were already there. Also ghosts? This one ties in with my first theory that the government stumbled upon the land and/or they discovered that this land was haunted/infested with monsters. Additionally what if the military is responsible for creating the monsters. I want to star with the possibility that the monsters have been here, for how long we can’t be sure. I kind of love the idea that this is maybe like a Roanoke/Croatoan situation. The settlers disappeared without a trace and were never heard of again. This spot could be something similar to places like Gravity Falls, like how supernatural events happen there and are amplified. Im blanking on other shows that have a location where supernatural events only happen in that one spot. Im sure there was a “Supernatural” episode about something like it. Like I mentioned before it’s possible people just kept disappearing but that the military figured out something and has been studying them since then, letting people continue to enter the forest and feeding the monsters in an attempt to study the supernatural phenomena. Additionally this would make more sense with the ghosts people are seeing and why only a few people can see that ghosts(if that’s what they are). The second part of this I am basing off of another tv show. Love, Death and Robots s1 ep18 Secret War shows that the soviets conducted black magic and were able to release demons from hell. The episode is based off of a novel so maybe some ideas were drawn from that. What if the early government opened their own kind of portal and let the monsters out. It’s possible the monsters took the original townspeople’s bodies as hosts. In an effort to cover it up and keep it secured they put up some kind of force field and now people get stuck here. If the government wanted to try and use these monsters though they could be keeping them under constant observation to hopefully use them in the future. This could also explain the ghosts, opening up a portal to another dimension/hell could be what is keeping spirits in some kind of purgatory/limbo.
That is my really long theories on how Jim could be right. I love the idea of gov. Involvement but hope it is something completely unrelated and that we’re all caught off guard. Also I know I am late to this show so if I have posted already known theories sorry! I am really down to discuss this though because I have no friends watching this right now!

2023.06.07 03:13 Cinnamon_Apple_Pie Computer hard crashing when booting VR, no blue screen, have to drain power to reboot

I'm having a problem with my fairly newly built PC with it hard crashing whenever I boot a game in VR after I have had the PC on playing a non-VR game for a few hours. This has happened with Beat Saber, Skyrim VR, No Mans Sky VR, and even non-steam VR games.
The computer hard crashes, audio stops, a window is popping up but doesn't complete. No Blue screen, and rebooting the GPU driver using Cntl Shift Win+B doesn't work either. Rebooting the computer will not proceed passed the MOBO splash screen unless I unplug the PC from power and drain power by holding the power switch. Cannot access BIOS when it is in this state until I drain power.
I've been using the same install of windows 10 from previous computers however I've been using AMD DDU to completely clean GPU drivers after a new GPU install. Windows Event Viewer isn't giving me anything consistent to work with in regards to troubleshooting. Turned off all RAM and GPU overclocking, nothing seemed to work.
Anyone who might've had a similar issue could chime in on this?

The tests all came back positive and the sentient was, according to the Meldren researchers, extremely capable when it came to fighting other sentients. For now I could place less worry on the apparent sentient infestation back at home and focus on the next thing in my massive list of shit to deal with. Worrying about the results of the situation back there was not my current job, at least now I have a plan for protecting the people here if the home team didn’t come out on top.
The next most pressing matter was what my Pioneer managed to do in the short time he was here. In the first 24 hours that kid managed to strike up friendly relations with high-tech aliens, somehow wrest us control of the whole system barring their home planet, piss off an entire race of war-hungry goat people and in the same stride become a hero for a bunch of other alien races. He was supposed to be holed up in a galactic prison right now, but Governor Sind let me know that he had probably already given them the slip and was heading here right now.
It was a mess, but it was one that I could work with. I’d have to make Dominique our poster boy for public relations whether he liked it or not since he already managed to score positive attention from numerous governments. If we could solidify those admirers of his as allies and start making a network of united powers, we could create a safety net to rely on in the event that help is needed back at home. The biggest problem with this plan was that those races may not be too eager to team up with us just yet considering we are at the brink of a war with the people they all historically lost to. They probably weren’t looking for a round 2 and getting them to move might be a slog depending on how stingy the Grahtonians wanted to be.
My ship is currently in low orbit and mostly non-operational since all non-essential functions were shut down while the sentient was being evaluated. Thanks to the circumstances that affected the Pioneer and our inconceivably early arrival to the destination, none of the colonies have been prepared outside of one city. The hundreds of thousands of people in cryosleep on the ship are liabilities until they can be transferred to finished habitations with online defense systems. The city that was already built could technically fit everyone on the ship, but I wasn’t keen on putting all of my eggs in one basket when we could go under fire at any moment.
I didn’t have the leeway to go out there and provide aid for my Pioneer. I wasn’t too worried for him, that man had a mostly good head on his shoulders when it came to staying out of sight and evading the consequences of his actions. I needed to worry about myself in case some less-than-agreeable company decided to show up. As long as I can get the weapons systems up and running-

The space station we decided to refuel at was a bit on the smaller side and had its age shown on display. The ship we left on didn’t have enough charge for a full trip to the Meldren system, nor did it have much of anything else. While I could technically make it there conventionally without having to eat, not only would it take too long but I also definitely wouldn’t be happy about it. Plus, there was also Dokchara to worry about.
Even if I wasn’t the only human in this entire sector of the galaxy, my face was recently plastered on every network and media platform. Fortunately, the emergency evacuation suits worked by covering the user and forming up based on their body shape. The head parts for these suits were domes of completely tinted glass to accommodate a multitude of races, but it also worked nicely as a way to hide my identity. I could pass off as some tall bipedal race without much suspicion.
“This might be a long shot, but refueling isn’t free and I’m not jumping at the opportunity to gouge out my savings…”
“I have a currency card that the Meldren Governor gave me, but I’m a bit worried about spending Meldren money out here, might put a target on our back.”
“That’s fine, I can wire the money from that card to mine and nobody would suspect anything, at least for a while.”
After Dokchara finished talking with the station crew about refueling and supplies, we left the docking bay to look for somewhere to eat. The bay exit led straight to the station’s commercial district and it wasn’t too long before we found a place with not many people so we could avoid attention, the “Stray Lounge.”
Considering the name of the establishment, I walked in expecting to find something like those old Bars on earth, and while there was indeed a bar and bartender, there was also a waiter, so this place could pass off as a restaurant. We sat down and had menus handed to us along with some water. I was thankful that they hadn’t gone with digital menus since it’d be a hassle to navigate to it with my head computer on top of attracting weird looks.
Seeing them offer pure ethanol as an option would have caused me to choke on my water if I didn’t have a synthetic throat. I get that biologies are varied beyond extremes and that to some people, that may as well just be water but how could something like that even taste good? It wasn’t even flavored.
I decided to get a drink from the inoffensive list since I’d rather not stumble across the one drink that was capable of melting metal or anything. I let Dok order the food since he was the hungry one here and he knew better about what this stuff meant than me. It seemed like a slow day for the place, as there were only a couple people at the bar and a group of three at one of the other tables, so the food and drinks were prepared almost immediately.
“...Is it weird if I prefer the food back at the prison?”
“I’m with you on that one. After all, that prison was meant for high-society criminals, so the food was pretty good all things considered. Comparing that to this veggie mash is a bit of an unfair fight.”
“It’s so strange to me how prisoners were treated in there, why are those criminals given extra benefits just for being politicians and executives at one point?”
“It’s not talked about much, but I’m guessing it's not a coincidence that extra funding goes into that place for a reason, ya know? ‘A buddy in crime got caught, guess I’ll throw them a bone’ or something like that.”
“...Yeah that mess is way above my pay grade. At least the drinks here are nice, no alcohol in prison even for the guards is such a drag, ya know?”
“Can you even get drunk? Actually, can you even properly taste anything if all your sensors are implants now? How do you even know you're tasting it right?”
“Same goes for you pal. Tell me, what’s the actual difference between a natural bodily function and a man-made one meant to mimic the same outputs?”
“I mean, our “natural” parts are the result of evolution sticking with whatever worked the first time and running with it, regardless of the actual efficiency when compared with every possibility. Replacing something like that with a synthetic piece that was formed by the intelligent mind instead of nature’s course, is there a technical downside? Do you really believe that the natural, organic wiring that circulates your blood is as efficient as can be?”
“Dom, what the fuck are you talking about?!”
“...Hey look, I know those guys!”
I decided to put my attempt at inducing a mid-life crisis down for later when I saw a breaking news appear on the screen that was playing an infinite ad roll. The topic happened to be none other than the disappearance of a new race’s ambassador as well as a Moqango guard followed by a statement from the Grahtonian Government claiming to take the investigation into their own hands.


Think I'm gonna start aiming to release chapters every 2 days instead of daily. I need to pace myself better and this way I can work on the quality of the chapter a bit more before posting. Hope I don't fall off because of this...

2023.06.07 02:50 BlockIdol Do you think Caine had a redemption arc?

Rereading the Gone series, I forgot how evil Caine was. He was going to let a group a pre-schoolers get eaten by coyotes simply because he couldn’t be bother calling them off (this was after he thought he already won btw). He also seems to be blissfully unaware about this side of himself as shown in situations where he has the nerve to shame Sam for putting a 9 year old in a guard position at the power plant. However, as I went through the series, I never felt his character changed for the better as the series went on.
He still seems equally power hungry and willing to murder for minor reasons. The only change I saw in him was that he became more cautious and learned from his mistakes, along with his love for Diana increasing. Nearly every good deed he does in the series can be linked back to both of these. The only good deed I can think of that was independent of these was his choice to take responsibility for the crime in the FAYZ after the barrier, but it’s unknown whether that was only going to be applied in the event of his death (meaning it didn’t hold as much weight).
Let me know your thoughts. Was there any truly selfless acts from Caine that I’m missing? Do you think he had a redemption arc or did being the hero just suit his own needs in the end?

This isn't a "Should X thing be in death battle because of outside controversy/I don't like this IP" post as that's been done a million times all over the internet before, this is just asking if it's even possible for Harry Potter or anyone else in his verse to have a decent reasonably balanced Death Battle.
Luke Skywalker vs Harry Potter is a stomp. Luke waves his hand and snaps Harry's neck, crushes his organs, slices him with a lightsaber, opens a black hole and sucks him in, etc. The animation is bad because Death Battle was young, and it's kind of just a footnote people revisit to make jokes out of. And aside from the whole "Harry Potter is just a shitty rehash of Star Wars" criticism, they don't have anything in common, and Star Wars is on a whole different scale of power compared to the Wizarding World.
Harry himself exists in this weird void where he's much more powerful than your Average Joe, but he gets his shit smashed by anyone with decent speed feats or even anyone remotely similar to himself, like Timothy Hunter and Percy Jackson.
People really seem to want Gandalf vs Dumbledore, but why? I'm really not a fantasy person, so my knowledge on Middle-Earth isn't too great, but isn't Gandalf the White a god wearing human flesh? Even if he isn't, he's absurdly powerful, and yet again Middle-earth is on a much higher and vast scale of power then the Wizarding World, where giant unspeakable unimaginably powerful beings are manipulating huge events behind the shadows vs a world where a bunch of wizard racists are squabbling.

Last night, I rented the new movie about Padre Pio after reading mostly negative reviews posted on this subreddit, Twitter, and articles on Google News.
Here is what you need to know if you are interested in watching it:
  1. This is an independent movie, and on the lower budget end.
  2. Independent movies are known for being slow, experimental, and unpolished.
  3. This movie is rated R.
The reviews I am seeing seem to be coming from people who are unfamiliar with this genre and the pace/style of historical foreign independent films, which has led to many misleading reviews.
With that said, in my opinion, the movie was worth watching for me because of its powerful emotional imagery and dialogue; it focuses on the mysticism of Pio rather than only the supernatural events in his life. There is some social commentary that was thought provoking if you are keeping up with the current political discourse. Also, this movie would be considered very modest in comparison to the majority of foreign films that are shown in theaters across the country.
Is this my favorite movie? No.
Was it worth renting as someone interested in Padre Pio's life and the Church in popular culture? Yes.
I give it 7.9/10 on the Cannes/Sundance Film Festival rating scale.

2023.06.07 02:33 Baldemoto What are your thoughts on engaging in American bourgeois elections in this current political climate?

I've seen much debate among left-wing circles about bourgeois elections, and this seems to be a very common and frequent point of contention between socialists and communists. My usual gut anti-electoralist reaction to bourgeois elections have begun to be more and more challenged as time goes on.
First off, I can state the obvious: The US is made up of 2 neoliberal bourgeois parties whose ultimate purpose is to uphold the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. The Democratic party is generally more socially liberal and egalitarian, but these are superficial and will be rolled back on a dime if it genuinely threatens the interests of the bourgeoisie (See: Rollback of food stamps and student debt pause in order to prevent a US default). Furthermore, foreign policy is only marginally different between parties and there is no electoral political force that can fundamentally change the imperialistic tendencies of the US due to the amount of capital within its borders and the US dollar's status as the global reserve currency. I believe it is generally uncontroversial that there is zero revolutionary potential by solely acting through electoral means.
However, as the political rhetoric of one bourgeois party (Republicans) have developed over the past few years, I have felt a strengthening sense of unease. It is true, yes, that both Republicans and Democrats are bourgeois parties. However, Republicans, in a desperate bid for relevancy, have begun to advocate for and enact extremely dangerous and concerning legislation against trans people and people in the queer community in general. Not only are they attempting to regress transgender rights around the country, they are trying to eradicate the entirety of the progress towards gender equality and acceptance of queer and gender nonconforming people in the past 80 years. This fascistic scapegoating has left me genuinely scared for both queer friends of mine in Republican-led states, and for my own and my partner's safety should Republicans seize control of the federal government (we are both transgender).
This incredibly quick and horrifying evolution of the Republican party has genuinely made me feel obligated to vote for Democrats. I see absolutely no consequentialist arguments against voting for Democrats in my and my queer friend's current situation. Yes, the Democrats are a bourgeois party, yes, they are the bourgeois ratchet preventing movement to the left, and yes, this decay into fascism is obviously the result of our current capitalist system in decay. However, I cannot, in good conscience, not vote, or advocate voting for, bourgeois candidates that will at the very least temporarily hold off the persecution against my friends.
In light of this incredibly fascistic and reactionary turn by Republicans, I am questioning the relevancy of abstinence in the bourgeois political process. I live in the most competitive congressional district in the country. The Republican, in our case, won by about 500 votes, or 0.4%. This single voting outcome, due to the tightness of the Republican majority in the House, very likely allowed Republicans in Congress to, by one vote, form a coalition by electing McCarthy as Speaker (and thereby have the political capital to force social spending cuts and a stoppage to the student debt pause in the new budget). I work at a university with a large very liberal student body but low election turnout rates. This has made me genuinely feel that, if I had become somewhat more involved in bourgeois electoralism and campaigned for the cohort around me to vote, I personally could have significantly steered the direction the United States is heading towards.
Lenin wrote in Should We Participate in Bourgeois Parliaments? that a complete dismissal by communist revolutionaries of Bourgeois parliaments is an ill-conceived notion:
Parliamentarianism is of course “politically obsolete” to the Communists in Germany; but—and that is the whole point—we must not regard what is obsolete to us as something obsolete to a class, to the masses. Here again we find that the “Lefts” do not know how to reason, do not know how to act as the party of a class, as the party of the masses. You must not sink to the level of the masses, to the level of the backward strata of the class. That is incontestable. You must tell them the bitter truth. You are in duty bound to call their bourgeois-democratic and parliamentary prejudices what they are—prejudices. But at the same time you must soberly follow the actual state of the class-consciousness and preparedness of the entire class (not only of its communist vanguard), and of all the working people (not only of their advanced elements).
However, of course, here Lenin was talking explicitly about the strategies of revolutionary parties, not of supporting bourgeois candidates in and of themselves.
Engels wrote similarly in The Bakuninists at Work:
That is what Bakuninist "abstention from politics" leads to. At quiet times, when the proletariat knows beforehand that at best it can get only a few representatives to parliament and have no chance whatever of winning a parliamentary majority, the workers may sometimes be made to believe that it is a great revolutionary action to sit out the elections at home, and in general, not to attack the State in which they live and which oppresses them, but to attack the State as such which exists nowhere and which accordingly cannot defend itself. This is a splendid way of behaving in a revolutionary manner, especially for people who lose heart easily; and the extent to which the leaders of the Spanish Alliance belong to this category of people is shown in some detail in the aforementioned publication.
As soon as events push the proletariat into the fore, however, abstention becomes a palpable absurdity and the active intervention of the working class an inevitable necessity. And this is what happened in Spain. The abdication of Amadeo ousted the radical monarchists from power and deprived them of the possibility of recovering it in the near future; the Alfonsists stood still less chance at the time; as for the Carlists, they, as usual, preferred civil war to an election campaign. All these parties, according to the Spanish custom, abstained. Only the federalist Republicans, split into two wings, and the bulk of the workers took part in the elections.
Again, there is significant difference between these quotes and the US's political economy. I do not believe that there is, at present time, any significant revolutionary potential within the United States, and voting for bourgeois politicians is very obviously not exposing the bourgeois lies and contradictions. Participating in bourgeois democracies is to implicitly concede that we are at the mercy of the bourgeois. But, frankly, due to everything I have outlined above, I do not see another option.
Many of the arguments I have seen against electoralism seem to be either deliberately obtuse ("Biden is president and there is still anti-trans legislation being passed!" ignoring the federalist structure of the US government) or ontological in nature. But none of these change the fact that if Republicans are elected, my friends will be persecuted by the state and if Democrats are elected, my friends will not be persecuted by the state for some time. And, to be honest, I know which one of these I would choose.
I wanted to know what everyone's thoughts here, as socialists, are on the participation in electoralism in this particularly scary and dangerous time for the marginalized and scapegoated proletariat in the US.

Key New Features

  • New Paragon - The Magus Perfectus! (loves casting spells) Some of you know we teased this last year, but we needed more time to balance the art and design required to make this extra special, so we are very pleased to get this live! Wizard Monkey’s Paragon is designed to be a higher level strategic Paragon with powerful ability usage similar to the Doomship.
    • The core of the Magus is a toggle to and from a Draining Beam which deals very small single target damage but absorbs graveyard mana as it damages and destroys Bloons
    • While toggled off from the Drain Beam, Magus attacks with a powerful Arcane Spike that deals massive damage to MOABs and revives Bloons it slays, while a Dark Phoenix circles overhead attacking with Firebomb breath and a radial fireball attack
    • Phoenix Explosion Ability: can be cast to consume the Paragon’s entire graveyard to set all Bloons on screen on fire for 30 seconds and summon one Zombie ZOMG for every 9000 graveyard mana consumed
    • Arcane Metamorphosis Ability: can be used to consume all graveyard mana and transform the Magus briefly into an alternate form which decimates everything with a flame cascade attack; Metamorphosis lasts longer the more mana it consumes
    • Magus was designed for armchair play so it will fill and consume graveyard mana on its own, but our goal was to create more actively controlled Paragon for those who will enjoy microing between Beam on and off and choosing which awesome Ability to unleash and when

    • Applying new victory conditions to Boss Events completely changes the focus while still needing the damage output and type to handle each Boss

    • This is not directly a performance improvement feature, so please do not expect the game to run noticeably better - just noticeably cleaner
    • We tried not to remove key game state indicators but this is ultimately in player control - if you adjust the slider and effects and projectiles make it harder to play the game, please reset the slider until the game is working the way you want

Game Changes / Additions

  • New Party Time game theme event!
  • Refactored how leaderboard scores are stored so that we could add Least Cash/Tiers ranking options for Boss Events
  • Bosses on spawn will now clear the map of all existing projectiles
  • Highest Round profile stat renamed to Highest Round (All Time) & added in the new profile stat Highest Round (Current Version).
  • The 4 different Highest Round profile stats are now grouped together near the top of the profile stats page
  • Freeplay budget scaling reduced slightly (same speed/hp, but number of Bloons added per round will increase at a slower rate)
  • Added a new Roundset with Income curve to be used by our events team; this customized income curve allows us more flexibility to make this roundset than would otherwise have been possible with existing roundset tools

Monkey Buccaneer
  • xx5 Trade Empire should no longer buff too many merchants in co-op
  • Resolved tower moving from flagship to navarch displaying vfx at the wrong scale
  • Resolved "Paragon available" pip displaying for Buccaneer with only Flagship and Pirate Lord unlocked
  • Resolved an issue where Navarch’s attack rate buff would not apply to Doomship in some cases depending on build order
Monkey Ace
  • xx2 Centered Path ace no longer displays it’s placement target on screen initially when loading a save
  • Upgrading to 002 Ace no longer refreshes the cooldown on the special toggle

Banana Farm

Hero Specific Fixes

Obyn Greenfoot
  • Resolved an issue where Obyn’s Wall of Trees when placed on an intersection looping back around on itself would not be able to hit the children of any targets that passed over it
  • Resolved a crash that could occur when attacking glued Bloons
  • Resolved an issue where selling Geraldo, and then re-buying him would show the description of the last-viewed store item from before selling him
Platform Specific fixes
  • PC: Beast Handler’s hotkey in the hotkeys menu has been moved up near the rest of the support towers
  • PC: Added a ‘ Monkey Special 2’ hotkey (for towers like Beast Handler, Necromancers & Ace Paragon). By default the Special 1 & Special 2 hotkeys have been assigned to PageUp & PageDown and ordered so that PageUp triggers the upper specialty, and PageDown triggers the lower one
  • Arcade: Resolved a strange one pixel wide black line that can appear above some text characters on the arcade font
  • Chromebook: Game no longer crashes if attempting to login via webview
  • Chromebook: Resolved an issue with bluetooth mice being unable to scroll

Balance Changes

Boomerang Monkey
This part has to be included along with the Lych Soul rework with Paragons which is finally making it in this update after necessary delays. As Boomerang Paragon’s knockback hits so many times so quickly, we need to make it more reasonable when applied to targets that aren’t immediately destroyed.

Bomb Shooter
MOAB Assassin fills a useful role of a pure long cooldown ‘single target assassination’ in the game, but when compared to something like First Strike it feels a little lacking that it is unable to carry damage through MOAB Layers

  • x4x MOAB Assassin ability explosion centers around the impact target
Tack Shooter
Blade Shooter has always struggled to find much value without MK or as a step to Maelstrom, so to give it build value on its own we feel like this should be a part of the base value on the upgrade.

Ice Monkey
Lowest tiers of ice monkey are far too effective for their cost against ceramics, with this scaling well all the way to round 100, we feel like ice duration against ceramics needs to be reduced to counter this but for now this reduction will only apply until T3.
  • 000 Ice Monkey freeze duration reduced by 50% on ceramics
  • All T3 Ice Monkeys increase freeze duration on ceramics from 50 > 100%
  • 203 Icicles crosspath now gains camo prio
Glue Gunner
The Bloon Solver’s rework has been very popular, however, we’d like to have a better lead up into the new mechanics by introducing this earlier at the tier 4 now.
  • 4xx Bloon Dissolver now creates puddles on track leading up to Bloon Solver, puddles deal 1 damage, all other stats and crosspath benefits are the same.
Sniper Monkey
This will allow Cripple MOAB to take out regular MOAB layers in one shot until round 100; for such a slow attacking single target tower we feel this will help top path flex, even if mostly for show.
  • 5xx Cripple MOAB damage increased from 80 > 280
Monkey Buccaneer
Reworking Grape Shot crosspathing as it gains far too much crosspath value by T2 but then is lacking in purpose at higher tiers, double shot will only work as one extra grape however Destroyer will now apply its full attack rate buff to the grapes and Flagship will equip aspects of Grape Shot on the mini planes.
  • 210 Grape Shot total projectiles reduced from 10 -> 6
  • 310 Destroyer also reduced from 10 > 6 grapes
  • 310 Destroyer now increases grape attack rate twice as much, matching increase to the regular attack
  • 410 Aircraft Carrier planes radial attack now fires an arc of grapes instead of darts

  • 410 Aircraft Carrier planes radial projectile count 8 > 6

Monkey Ace
Spectre is shifting a little of the ceramic bonus around into basic all damage at the cost of reduced pierce, which should make up for lack of single target damage while also making the pierce crosspath more necessary when being used for cleanup focus.

Heli Pilot
Even with the map-range advantage, rotors are weak compared to any other constant AoE circle like this. Chinook feels like it’s near a place we are happy with now, however we want another tiny nudge on cost while keeping cash generation value the same. Pushing some higher values on the last Comanche Commander changes as the missile attack is effectively such a small portion of the tower’s total damage late game.
  • 302 Razor Rotors will now benefit from the faster firing crosspath
  • 3xx Razor Rotors cooldown rate 0.75 > 0.5
  • x4x Support Chinook price reduced from $10500 > 9500
  • x4x Support Chinook supply crate cash generated reduced $1650 > 1,550

Mortar Monkey
As the Rapid Reload crosspath has actually fallen behind in value compared to Burny Stuff for top path Mortars we want to try a slight stun duration increase as this buffs the base path with a larger benefit to Rapid Reload mortars as a stalling option. Mortar consistency is lacking at x3x making it tough to spend on even though x4x is fairly good, so some of the T4 rate is shifting down to help out with this. As the camo property has grown quite weak and currently Signal Flare is considered the best decamo tool, we want to push back slightly on its cost and by reducing the blast radius of the decamo area while emphasizing crosspathing for effectiveness there.
  • 4xx The Big One stun duration non-MOABs increased from 0.5s > 0.75
  • 5xx The Biggest One stun duration MOAB increased from 0.3s > 0.5
  • 5xx The Biggest One stun duration BFB increased from 0.2s > 0.3
  • 5xx The Biggest One stun duration DDT increased from 0.2s > 0.3
  • x3x Heavy Shells attack delay reduced from 1.08 > 0.81
  • x4x Artillery Battery attack rate buff reduced from ¼ to ⅓ (remains the same rate: 0.27)

Super Monkey
As Engineer sentries do this already, newly spawned Mini Avatars from temples will now by default match the target priority of the temple.

Ninja Monkey
We’re changing the Ninja Monkey Paragon’s focus as a fighter against camo, as we feel like a greater strength and tactical value against camo will be the full reveal of all camos rather than all camo removal.
  • Ascended Shadow now grants global camo detection for all your towers
  • Ascended Shadow no longer strips camo from Bloons with every attack
  • Ascended Shadow main attack gains bonus to camo +6
  • Ascended Shadow Flash Bomb Explosion gains bonus to camo +20
  • Ascended Shadow Flash Bomb Shurikens gains bonus to camo +16
  • Ascended Shadow Sticky Bomb Projectile gains bonus to camo +3200
  • Ascended Shadow Sticky Bomb Explosion gains bonus to camo +700
  • Ascended Shadow now deals 25% damage to all non-Boss MOABs that spawn
Alchemist Transforming Tonic is in a weird spot with the transformation unable to attack through walls when the base alchemist is able to. Also with this, including a QoL fix for the T5 that currently prevents transformed towers from functioning with target priority.
  • x4x Transforming Tonic transformed alchemist can now ignore line of sight
  • x5x Total Transformation towers transformed by the x5x will keep their Target Priority
While the tornado doesn't do anything to MOABs, it still spends itself on them which wastes a relatively long cooldown, so addressing this flaw. Avatar of wrath doubles the base attack speed before any scaling is applied, but this hasn’t ever applied to the 205 Lightning, so taking care of that as well. Housekeeping - even deep in the forest, it does actually make life better.
  • 3xx Druid of the Storm’s Tornado no longer targets MOAB-class Bloons
  • x3x Druid of the Jungle no longer pops Lead Bloons without 130 crosspath
  • x3x Jungle Vine follows target prio of tower instead of strong
  • x3x Jungle Vine defaults tower to strong priority when purchased
  • 205 Avatar of Wrath base Heart of Thunder attack rate increased 2.3s > 1.15
Spike Factory
We’ve heard the feedback, so Spiked Mines get a tweak to get more mines exploding but with less pierce on each, to overall increase quality of life in more frequent use but less wasted pierce. This will help out with some of the problems it has scaling into late game super ceramics.
  • 4xx Spiked Mines pierce increased from 12 > 20
  • 4xx Spiked Mines explosion pierce reduced from 40 > 30
  • 4xx Spiked Mines DoT damage increased from 1 > 10
  • 5xx Super Mines explosion pierce remains at 60
  • 5xx Super Mines DoT damage increased from 1000 > 2500
Monkey Village
A minor QoL for cheap Monkeyopolis creation, we included a small base amount of cash production to the generation formula.
  • xx5 Monkeyopolis income formula now includes a base +$2500 minimum
The 005 crosspath fix in the last update left XXXL Trap slower than previously even if crosspathed to 205, so we are increasing that base 005 slightly to match up the 205 crosspath again so that it isn’t any slower than before.
  • xx5 XXXL Trap attack cooldown reduced from 5.8s > 4.6
Beast Handler
As our newest tower to be added to BTD6, we went over feedback for every path and made a large number of adjustments addressing a variety of points.
  • 3xx Great White thrash rate benefits from speed buffs
  • 3xx Great White damage increased 4 > 8
  • 3xx Great White max extra damage from merge increased 8 > 16
  • 3xx Great White max attack rate buff from merge increased 0.20634 > 0.38
  • 3xx Great White extra thrash knockback duration from merge increased 0.1 > 0.2
  • 4xx Orca thrash damage increased 20 > 30
  • 4xx Orca thrash max extra damage from merge increased 40 > 60
  • 4xx Orca max attack rate buff from merge increased 0.37829 > 0.38
  • 4xx Orca thrash radius increased 20 > 24
  • 5xx Megalodon price reduced from 55,000 > 45,000
  • 5xx Megalodon thrash radius increased 30 > 36
  • 5xx & x5x Beast handler paths are now overclockable
  • x4x and x5x Max Merge Bonus: Overkill damage on MOABs now distributes to the children of that target
  • xx1 Gyrfalcon path deals +1 damage to Regrows to stop accidental infinite regrow farms
  • xx3 Golden Eagle pierce increased 12 > 15

Removing the stacking aspect of Gwendolin’s burn damage over time, but increasing the damage as she levels up so that it actually scales up in power now.
  • Lv6 Gwendonlin main attack DoT stack count 0 > 1
  • Lv6 Gwendonlin main attack DoT damage increased from 1 > 2
  • Lv9 Gwendonlin main attack DoT damage increased from 1 > 4
  • Lv10 Gwendonlin main attack DoT damage now increases by 1 per additional level
While they are complicated individuals, Adora can now fully appreciate the sacrifice of the newest Monkeys in the struggle against the Bloons.
  • Lv7 Blood Sacrifice can now be used on Beast Handlers
Admiral Brickell
We aren’t happy with strats that start looking like exploits with frequent sell-replace loops.
  • Upon Selling Brickell - all of her placed Mines are now expired along with her as well
Psi’s stalling out of the end of round is an odd mix of useful / annoying / out of control, so we are for now capping this to a 3 seconds of overtime stalling. Psi’s Psychic Blast ability also has weirdly low pierce for a long cooldown ability with no damage, we are increasing the base pierce greatly but it no longer increases in pierce at Lv7 since the extra pulse brings more pierce anyway.
  • If no Bloons are left unpopped on screen aside from ones Psi is currently holding & destroying, these Bloons will be destroyed after a maximum of 3 seconds
  • Lv3 Psychic Blast pierce increased from 50 > 200
  • Lv7 Psychic Blast pierce increased from 100 > 200
Event / Boss / Relic / Knowledge
  • All Lych Soul variations can now be stunned/slowed by paragon tier upgrades
Looking Forward
Five months of 2023 done and dusted, which feels to us like it has zoomed by, perhaps because the Auckland office where the BTD6 team is based has only just reopened after the severe flooding at the end of January. All of Update 36 and the majority of Update 37 were completed while again working from home, but we’re very excited to have the office repairs done, the flood wall almost finished, and the ability to work shoulder to shoulder again on fun new things for the monkeyverse! Here’s the latest gaze into the crystal ball:
  • Update 38 Key Content
    • New Boss - Phayze: another all new Boss concept and play style, not giving any other hints apart from the name itself
    • Summer fun: a new Brickell hero skin and a waterpark map aimed toward Intermediate to help keep northern hemisphere summer cool
    • Quests: continuing to build new quest system features and adding a few new Quests to the list
  • Update 39 Key Content
    • Map Editor: under construction since last year with internal systems testing happening during 38.0 development, we are super excited to put map creation tools in player hands on as many platforms as possible when it goes live
    • New Hero - Spirit Walker: another unique design that we’re sandboxing already to make sure it has as much balance and art iteration as possible, again no hints other than the name
  • Update 40 Key Content
    • New Paragon - Monkey Sub: we’ve tagged sub as the next Paragon, so tell the Navarch to stop hoarding all of the Portable Lakes!

While Silver Snow might have been drafted there are parts that were clearly written for Verdant Wind and hastily shoved into Silver Snow, much of early Silver Snow works much better for Verdant Wind than it does in Silver Snow. For example the joining with troops in Alliance territory or the whole scheme with stealing uniforms works better in Verdant Wind. However the Silver Snow parts in Verdant Wind are even more noticeable and conspicuous. Byleth has little connection to Rhea in Verdant Wind compared to Silver Snow and so Byleth's focus and constant worry for Rhea feels extremely out of place in Verdant Wind. The whole Embarr and Shamhala sections were also clearly made for Silver Snow. Edelgard and Byleth similarly lack a connection in Verdant Wind, and so, as much as Edelgard's line about how Byleth's "path lies across [her] grave" is my favorite line in the game, that line would have made much more sense direct at Claude in Verdant Wind given how at heart Edelgard and Claude are very similar people. Similarly The Shamhala section was more about Rhea coming to terms with her family's murderers, this was a very Rhea chapter, and it could have easily been re-framed to be more inline with Verdant Wind's themes, again here Byleth is strangely concerned with Rhea in a way that isn't justified on this route. Both Silver Snow and Verdant Wind contain content that was blatantly intended for the other route, and I just wish there had been a bit more time because these are relatively easy problems to fix.
To solve these problems not much would need to change really, most of the assets and content would be retained, almost all the maps could stay the same just some new dialogue and re-framing of scenes would be needed. Silver Snow needs relatively fewer changes. Instead of meeting Leicester reinforcements in Ailell have the Church regroup its lost members and have the map be a large one with lots of forest and rough terrain where you have to save multiple groups of Church members from Adrestian forces and Monsters. The Great Bridge of Myrddin could still happen and it would be better since Reigan would have more forces to contend Gloucester with. Fort Merceus could still work just find another reason, I mean Azure Moon did fine without having to impersonate Adrestian soldiers, could actually use the same reason as them of Leicester decided to help now that the Bridge is taken. Remove or change some of the lines that were very Verdant Wind, and that's really all that needs to be changed for Silver Snow the later half of Silver Snow works beautifully and is probably the best written part of the entire game.
Verdant Wind needs a little more work. The first thing would be to remove most of the references to how desperate Byleth is to find Rhea. In Silver Snow finding Rhea is Byleth's primary objective as they feel a personal connection to Rhea and its part of Byleth's existential journey finding out who they really are. In Verdant Wind finding Rhea is a side objective for Byleth and Claude because Rhea is one of the better sources of information on what the history of Fodlan really is and what are the forces determining the current situation. The early part of Verdant Wind can be kept as it is focused on the Leicester Alliance and Merceus chapter: "The Golden Scheme" is probably the most Claude chapter in the game. Changes start at the Enbarr chapters, I think it would be very interesting if Verdant Wind was the only route where the battle wasn't fought in the city center. Unlike in Azure Moon Edelgard isn't as desperate here, I think it is possible she would have chosen a fight outside of Enbarr, possibly in the plains to the north. Another idea which would be a nice parallel to Crimson Flower would be if Leicester launches a pincer attack from land and sea and so the map starts with you from one side and a group of allies on ships from another adjacent side. In the throne room Claude and Edelgard have quite a bit of interesting dialogue so while the scene where Byleth kills Edelgard was clearly written for Silver Snow, I do think it would still work if Edelgard addresses Claude more instead of Byleth.
Edelgard: Your ideals, I understand they're not so far removed from my own. But without sufficient knowledge of this land's suffering, I can't entrust Fódlan to you!
Claude: Perhaps. I daresay it's true that I don't fully understand the history of Fódlan. Still, I've seen many things in my life. Don't worry. I'll finish the job for you.

Claude: Edelgard, give up! We don't want to kill you!

For the last two chapters of Verdant Wind, the events should be rearranged. Nemesis was always a flunky, he was never more than a petty thief set on a path by the Agarthans so let me propose a different sequence for the same events. Claude starts scouting for the location of Shambhala but the Agarthans find out and release Nemesis along with their zombie army which like in "Fodlan's New Dawn" starts terrorizing southeastern Fodlan. Hearing that Nemesis The King of Liberation has risen from the dead along with the Ten Elites and is leading a zombie army Claude and Byleth confront Rhea like they do at the beginning of "Fodlan's New Dawn". Rhea seeing her mother's murderer within reach joins the battle and dies taking down Nemesis. This I'd argue is more poetic for Verdant Wind especially because there's less emphasis of Rhea's connection to Byleth. In Verdant Wind Rhea is even more stuck in the past, Rhea has spent so many centuries obsessing over Sothis, her death, and Nemesis. Seiros and Nemesis are both historical figures and so it is fitting that they end together, all these people that should be history, now finally are.
What to do about the new last chapter of Verdant Wind is the difficult question. The Agarthans make a very fitting thematically consistent final boss for Verdant Wind as they caused a large amount of the problems in Fodlan. The developers of Three Houses did a good job of making each final map of the four routes unique and grand and a capstone to the route. The problem here with a Shambala map would be how to make it different and more grand than the chapter in Silver Snow. One idea I have is to cave in the roof midway through the battle at which point the music would change from Shambala's dubstep to a remix of Claude's theme. Could always unleash some giant cyborg human crest experimentation monsters on the players. Could also make this a multi-commander map and hopefully Bias and the other named characters would get some characterization. I do like the idea that this is a rout map with many waves of reinforcements as the Agarthans refuse to give up and would rather die than live under those they see as subhuman. It would be nice if the Agarthans could be given more characterization because as bigoted as they are they do have several good points. They started out as the pro-human faction wanting humans to live freely and be able to decide their own destiny without having to be ruled over by dragons. There's hints that they are the remnants of modern real life humans between the ICBMs, the nuclear power warning signs written in Cyrillic, the United Nations symbol, and the mechs. There is a lot to make the Agarthans sympathetic and nuanced is only the game would lean into that. This could be spun in a way that's thematically relevant in that the downfall of the Agarthans was that they became isolated underground that isolation led to a cycle of increasing xenophobia, bigotry, and hatred. They got so stuck in their own ways that the world moved on without them. The end cutscene could be Claude and Byleth leading the army up to the surface as the sun rises or Byleth jumping on Claude's wyvern to see the sun rise.
Really the changes overall are quite small, minus a unique end cutscene this mostly uses existing assets because all I have proposed is reordering a few scenes and changing some lines, a mod could easily be made to implement this.

“One of the cornerstones of understanding the nature of Nieth and Hebeen is understanding their strange religion, or religions, as the case may be. In that previous phrase, we touch upon the issue at question. Does Nieth even have a religion, as we, the followers of the Lost, blessed be them, would understand it? Already, the initial impression is strange - rather than worshipping a pantheon of gods, as is wide-spread throughout the continent, they worship one, yet all.
It might help to touch upon some relevant history, as well as some examples to illustrate the roots of such a foreign concept.
Nieth, as far as we can seek, has its roots in a nomadic peoples that travelled the great desert that wraps around its northern half. These were unlike the brutish and savage people of our own northern flood plains, more like the mystical but lowly Vieatta from the mountains past them. Still, it was enough for them to carry on the advanced and civil arts of poetry and music.
It’s within those that they encoded much of their history from early days, although without the advent of writing which other societies wisely use, some of it was subject to mythologization. Regardless, life by all accounts was strenuous out on the sands, and the sacred was pushed aside for the practical. From the practical needs of water and shade there appeared to arise a new religion, one that enfolded all primitive others within its arms as emanation of ‘Embass Aliyah’, or ‘The One and Truth’.
This may provide some illumination to the reader who may have heard of Nieth’s ‘acceptance’ of our Faith.
Within this one, unifying principle, people gravitated to the Oasis of Nieth, which was a popular way station for trade and rest. Many of the historians I have engaged suggest that the principle of ‘The One’ was a major factor in the formation Nieth as a societal centre, as well as the establishment of the Nine Princely Families. The fact that the scions of the Nine Families that I’ve had the fortune to interview claim vastly different patrons between them supports this.
The current ‘landscape’ as it were, for the religion of Neith is roughly as follows:
Perhaps one in five are adherents of our own Faith. Most, that is to say, three in five, worship the traditional, normal pantheon of Nieth, which is also the religion of the ruling prince. In addition, the sisterhood who administer Hebeen, the city of children, are drawn from this majority faith. More details on the various gods and their descriptions is enclosed in the following chapter. The remaining are split between various small and often foreign denominations, including some faiths from the First Lands.
Of these, there are two that bear special mention. The first is the actual seat of the ‘pure’ faith of ‘The One and Truth. It is a relatively small, if quite beautiful temple in the Seat of the Nine. The high priest (‘teacher-guide’ as he refers to himself) was gregarious and pleased to answer my various questions through a translator. Despite being the nominal religion of Nieth, its principles underlying the whole of the society, its actual numbers of worshippers are small. A potential reason for this is the second faith of note.
This is a separate derivation of the principles of ‘The One’ and seemingly the older of the two. It is the principal faith of the various nomadic peoples that wander the Plague Dunes of Nieth. As their account goes, the principle of ‘The One’ was revealed to the forebears of the Nine Families out in the northern deserts. The families had planted and grown an oil-bush to an impossible size (presumably why it is referred to as a tree in oral retellings), often feeding it with cruel blood sacrifices from other enemy tribes.
One night, either nine generations, nineteen, or ninety nine, depending on which account you receive, the oil tree burned. For those that know anything about oil bush, they will know it burns with a fearsome light due to the eponymous liquids within. In this case, such was the magnitude of the tree and blaze that the volatile oils exploded outwards. The founders of the Nine Families, who held council around the tree when camped in the locale, were covered in the oils.
This crude anointment, while horribly disfiguring them all, supposedly imparted revelation to them about the nature of ‘The One’. As such, the faith of ‘The One’ is strongly rooted in the depths of the desert, and many of its more zealous adherents are to be found out among the dunes, navigating the toxic and dangerous environs using methods not understood even among the Neith city-dwellers.
Hence, most of the faithful of ‘Embass Aliyah’ leave Nieth and its surrounding fiefs to live with the nomads from which their faith originated. While the high priest does not concede the idea that ‘The One’ would have a special connection to the desert, for it exists everywhere equally, he considers it understandable for people desiring to live the savage life of their ancestors. Even so, one can observe the imprint the desert has left upon the primitive church, the icon of the oil tree being central to their architecture and symbolism.
To illustrate the devouring nature of this faith, one can examine one of the most famous events in the history of Nieth, which led to the founding of its sister-city Hebeen. For those that take such an interest in the regions of the south, you might quickly realise that one of the title gods of the majority faith shares the same name as a Karkosian deity -‘Viethustra, The Bloody Handed God’.
By all accounts as brutal as he is cunning, he is also the god that provides for the administration of justice. Though all of these gods are of course false as we understand them, one can find an interesting parallel with the origins of Nieth as a society. An astounding number of original texts survive from those haydays, often reflective accounts of the events by those who lived them.
Supposedly this adoption into the widely recognized pantheon traces to the great conflagration that consumed Nieth some four hundred years ago. This destruction particularly devastated the child population of the city. The reigning prince, after the fires had been quenched, ordered the formation of Hebeen, the city of children. Thereafter, almost all children of Neith of age are sent to cross the Aderhajj mountains, and come out into a place where they live and play together, under the watchful eyes of servants of Viethustra and the Dusky Sister.
Another example, far more contemporary, is that of the Yumyaq, the nightly processions of songs, hymns and poetry recitations. The overall effect is hardly like the organised harmonies of our own choirs, and often subject and song clash in the air of cities. However, it is the general belief that such a task is essential for the preservation of Embass Aliyah. It may be universal, but its claimed emanations, which is to say, every religious being in the world, are bound to locations.
So, this discordant din is, in a sense, a spiritual beacon, for the gods to return home, over the land and sea to Nieth. It is perhaps better explained by the high priest of Embass Aliyah, who suggests that it is more of a reminder. Namely, a reminder that the gods all exist within the embrace of Embass Aliyah, and that they will always be worshipped in Nieth.
Out of all the strangest tenets of the faiths of Nieth, this is perhaps the most offensive to those learned. Not only would it implicitly suggest that they have solved the most important theological question of the Lost Ones (i.e. ‘where they were lost’), but also the term ‘Yumyaq’ (‘Of gods’ or ‘godly’ depending on usage) is questionable in itself.
Indeed, the derivation of the term, as far as I can trace it, is actually a title given to the city itself.

It was an all too normal day, for all of its stresses, or at least, so Yemassa thought. The merchant trudged through the street, his bag of wares heaped high upon his back. That was just about the only thing that was abnormal - his big request. It was an unusually large order of various herbs, spices, and raw plant products that his small farm cultivated. While his handful of workers were busy harvesting gemsing, hot peppers, and the spiky amanas plant, he was carrying the last of the stock into Nieth proper.
The long, squat buildings had their dark windows shuttered against the afternoon sun. Despite that, many of the various city merchants and their clientele were happy to host conversation and commerce. Indeed, they were rushing to do so, considering that the Yumyaq was almost upon them. Once the sacred hour of sunset had passed, no commerce would be allowed, at least no formal commerce.
The activity was abuzz in most parts of the city, especially since the complete rout their forces had enjoyed to the north. Some raiding legion from across the sea had challenged the might of Nieth and learned a hard lesson. Yemassa wasn’t much aware of the details, though like every good citizen, felt a certain pride at the rumour of crushing victory. More importantly, excitement usually meant people’s pursestrings grew a little looser.
The thought hot on his heels, Yemassa drove himself forwards. The request had been a surprise, both in magnitude and in source. He was headed towards one of the inner, higher districts where the wealthy were congregating. He climbed the freshly cleaned steps to one of the upper roads, finding it mostly clear of people, save those that were stall-shopping.
Onwards and upwards he climbed, going up the various footpaths carved out by hundreds of tromping feet over the years. He had to take care to avoid the various pebbles and small scrub brushes that nipped at his wrapped feet however. Finally, he made it to one of the smaller winding district streets, which spat him out in one of the quieter streets. A bend and a twist in the route later, he managed to find his way into the courtyard of the commissioner.
He was greeted by two separate maid servants who helped him unpack and ferried the goods to where they needed to go. To further the shocking nature of the encounter, the client, a woman devout enough to wear a veil over her face, came out to speak to him directly. He knelt before her, refusing to lift his eyes even against her insistence that he need not be so formal.
She even deigned to discuss business, inquiring after his holdings and what kind and how much of his products he grew. He answered with as much humility as he thought was safe, and found a receptive customer at the other end. He had to keep himself from jumping up with excitement when she casually suggested he recommend his services to friends. Only when she returned to the inside did he spring away, walking back down the hill with significantly more energy then he’d climbed.
Just before he scampered off the road and onto the various footpaths that led down to the main thoroughfare, he caught a glimpse of the far cliffs between the houses. It would be sunset soon, he knew, and if he waited for just a few more minutes, they would turn a golden red in the evening. The others would manage just fine without him for a little while longer, he was sure.
So, making his way between the various alleys of the neighbourhood, he clambered out onto a shelf of rock. This was both a better and more precarious view, given the drop of several hundred hands into another quarter already in shadow below. It had been the site of an old mine, he thought, although his knowledge of the older parts of the city was not completely up to snuff.
He hunkered down on a rock a handful of paces from the edge, crossed his legs, and waited. Soon enough, the sun lowered in the cliffs behind him, the skies awash with the evening haze. This was a good spot, he’d have to remember it when he desired a good view of the city. From here, he could see most of the northern quarters, as well as the great central sprawl of the city running from left up to right.
At the very top of the city to the right stood the palace of the Nine Families. As Yemassa watched, its nonagon concentric layers of domes and spires, one for each generation he recalled, began to glimmer a pinkish hue. He smiled, the notes recalling fond memories of his own family, though he generally heard less of them now.
It was with a start that he realised that meant he had spent nearly a half hour on the ridge. As more elaborate poetry in service to one god or another began to drift behind him, joining the din from below, he scrambled. Thrusting the pack onto his shoulders, he took one last chance to survey his city as the cliffs shone their fiery colours. The din of the Yumyaq, the song of bountiful Nieth, rose to the heavens, calling across the brushlands and jungle to the distant sea, to carry the gods home.
It was a good sound, a familiar sound, the sound of home to him as well as those distant divine beings. Before he could turn his heel and walk down to the footpaths that would take him home, however, he found something tickling the edge of his vision. He squinted at the far cliffs, red and magenta, with hints of orange and yellow among the craggy faces.
He squinted further, trying to determine what exactly had drawn his attention.
It took him a half-minute more to determine that a flickering, bluish light was moving this way and that in the shadows of a cliff face. That was certainly odd, he thought as he watched the barely visible speck hover in place.
It only became odder when a second, yellowish light joined it.
It became alarming when a dozen, then two dozen, then hundreds of multicoloured lights joined it. The shadows it had inhabited vanished a glow of yellow and blue as they seemed to get bigger. They were getting bigger, Yemassa realised, as little tendrils and flakes began to shoot up above the cliffs in the sunset haze. Reds, purples, greens, but predominantly yellows and blues floated like petals on the wind.
There was a deep rumbling at the edge of his hearing, not powerful enough to shake the ground, but enough to send a wave through his feet. Fear lanced through him as he watched them grow brighter and larger until…
With an explosion of colour and light, a great torrent, like a spring pouring forth from a crevasse, vomited out and up. Yembassa watched as a swirling mass, a comet coming down to earth, shot forward across the city. As he watched it streak towards his position, frozen with shock, pieces of the light flaked off, drifting almost lazily down toward the city.
A piece of Yembassa recognized the locale - the school quarter, where most of the children would just be running out of classes. The scholars and priests studying long hours into the night, preparing to defend themselves against peers, or to present a proposal to the Prince-in-Reign.
There was a flash so bright he had to turn his eyes away.
When he looked back, the minarets and walls of the school districts were drowned under a sea of flames. More flashes followed, bits and pieces of the great comet delivering the biggest explosions he’d ever seen as they made contact with the ground.
Yembassa’s legs finally managed to unlock as the first screams began to drift up to him on suddenly scorching air. He realised numbly that half the city was burning in a matter of moments, and that the comet was shooting straight towards him. He turned to run, yet something drew his eyes around even as his legs pumped.
The mass turned just in time, streaking below the cliff line, where the old mine entrances had been, he thought. A small spine of hope poked through his terror.
Slowly, slowly, wavering from side to side in gentle, periodic motion, the molten feather drifted down, down, to touch the rocks where he’d been sitting.
Then there was light, and sound, and a heat that melted his eyes out of their sockets and tore him limb from limb.

DIY Go Box completed! TYT 9800 and QYT 7800
I had a couple of VHF/UHF/220/350/6m/10m mobile radios sitting around collecting dust, so I decided (while in the middle of a vacation) to build a go box for them. The go box build that u/consciouslyskeptical made, and our subsequent conversation, encouraged me to post my completed build here.

The build purpose is a go box that can be setup at an event site or at a shelter and for it to be able to do winlink and FLDIGI. I used a plastic "Tactical" ammo box from Harbor Freight. I think the only thing tactical about it is the compartment on the top, which actually worked out well and hid 99% of my equipment. It has enough space inside (after I did my cable management) to fit both mics, an evolve 12v laptop, and a speaker in it. There is no internal battery, as the deployment scenarios would have me connected to my battery box or grid power. Power comes in through a powerpole connector and I have connectors for the TYT since its mic jack is behind the plastic. The goal here is that once I'm at a station I can setup and leave the box closed in case of bad weather. Can be run standing up or on it's side. Antennas can be screwed in the top or run a distance out, depending on the scenario and what cabling I have.

Let me know if you have any questions. All in (minus the radios and the rotary tool I had to buy), this build was just shy of $200.
