2023.06.03 17:34 Lordbingston Hvac guy runninn a gas line for pool heater. Need help with pipe size.
| Wazzup plumbums, need a bit of help if someone doesn’t mind. so I run a gas lines all the time but usually I just put it together - someone else does the sizing. Natural gas. Trying to get gas to a 260k btu pool heater about 100ft run has a 3/4 inch feed for the gas. Gas meter is 425k btu- 10psi Would I run a 1 1/4 inch gas line from the meter for 60ft reduce to 1 inch for 35ft and then do the remaining in 3/4inch? I’d appreciate any help- submitted by Lordbingston to Plumbing [link] [comments] |
2023.06.03 04:35 lostguy01 How to stop things from fusing and flipping the circuit breaker?
I recently moved to a new apartment and the landlord mentioned that the house is super old (100+ years) and even though they re did the wiring that I should avoid running my portable ac at the same time as other things so that it doesn’t blow a fuse.
Specifically this ac:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/LG-6-000-BTU-DOE-115-Volt-Portable-Air-Conditioner-LP0621WSR-Cools-250-Sq-Ft-with-Dehumidifier-Function-and-LCD-Remote-LP0621WS314714112 The only things in my apartment that use power is the fridge, lights, portable Ac, water heater, routemodem and my gaming laptop. I have an air fryer but obviously I wouldn’t use that at the same time as everything else. How can I prevent these things from blowing a fuse if they run at the same time.
The reason I’m asking is because the fuse box with the circuit breakers is in a closet that’s part of someone else’s unit so I can’t access it without first contacting them and asking them to unlock the unit.
Note: I am electrically illiterate so talk to me like I know nothing about electricity.

2023.05.31 00:32 newgirlie Heater for 5,000 gallon saltwater in-ground pool (oval shaped 20'x11')?
I have a very small saltwater pool, about 5000 gallons. We've tried using a liquid solar cover but haven't noticed much difference in temperature. I have a few questions:
- Since the pool is so small, I'm thinking of going on the lower end of BTU's. Would 90K or 150K BTU's be sufficient?
- What's the pro and con of a propane or natural gas heater? What about electric, something like this? We don't currently have a gas line out to the pool. *Any specific brand or model of pool heater you recommend?
Thanks!

2023.05.30 21:50 relaxandbhappy Hayward pool heater
I had a new Hayward gas 200,000 btu pool heater installed last week for above ground pool. Gas was hooked up first, then electrical. The electrician hooked it up while I was gone and said it’s good to go. Pool has not be filled yet, no water in heater. I come home to plumb the heater and I hear the fan come on suddenly then the display displays error code “h5” (no water flow obviously). I know the heater has many fail safe protections in place. Could the above have damaged the heater in anyway?

2023.05.30 00:02 Square_Opinion_4257 The 'Hot tub time Machine' & it's heater the 'Flux Capacitor'!
| Hello! Hoping to get some professional advise on my redneck-mobile-wood-fired hot tub time machine project. Please let me know if I am going to blow myself up! Ok here goes... Heating water with 4x 50' lengths of 1/2" copper pipe wrapped around the outside of the barrel and insulated with ceramic insulation. Using a PVC one way valve on the cold end and a brass one way valve on the hot end. The concept is using a small Marine battery powered pump (1/10hp did the trick) during active heating from 0 - 40 Celsius but then allowing the heat syphon to take over for quiet, passive circulation given the heater is much lower than the mass of water. It does, infact circulate during testing last fall and I got it up to temperature. I am aware that if the water boils it will expand explosively and so I have a hot water tank's safety release valve (150PSI and/or >100C to trigger). See photos. 200ft of Type L 1/2" copper pipe = 2.42 Gallons of water. Worst case scenario - If all that water turns into steam at once will it overwhelm the pressure release valve pictured on the bottom Right of the back of the heater? Where is my weak point/ what would explode? (Cold end PVC would be my guess) Any other safety measures you could advise? Questions and comments welcome, I am 2 years into this and friends are tired of hearing about it! ^^ I did observe a banging phenomenon at the tub where the water connects to the 2" hose (pictured) for the jets when I had the pump off for a long period. I suspect this was small amounts of water turning to steam and causing a shock wave/ water hammer. I intend to add a water hammer arrestor on the back end of the heater to prevent damage to the fiberglass tub/ jets. Additional information: A gas powered water transfer pump will be used with a milk crate rigged to be a crude filter. This tub will be usable anywhere near a body of water where you also have firewood. The 1/10HP pump has a bypass to push through a standard hot tub filter. If chlorine/ bromine is used correctly the water may be drained safely onto grass without damaging local vegetation. Improved tub insulation and a potential pump upgrade are planned to improve heating efficiency. Estimated output is ~ 150K BTU/hr but remains to be proven. I intend to try this out ice fishing! Thoughts? Will add plywood sides & cover with vinyl plankflooring. 4x 50' 1/2\" Type L copper pipe. Wrapped in ceramic insulation with a 2nd barrel overtop. From Right to left: 150psi/ 100C pressure release valve, Thermometer, 30psi pressure gauge & ball valve to blow out water for winterization. Radiator hose connector to jet hoses. Active heating will use insulated hose and dump into tub directly. 1st Test in Fall 2022! submitted by Square_Opinion_4257 to Plumbing [link] [comments] |
2023.05.29 23:48 shashmi324 Pool Heater Pump Size -Going big an issue?
Live in NY. Looking to invest in an electric pool heater pump to give a couple months extra of swim time. I have an 11,000 gallon pool and was told by my local pool store that I need a 65k BTU unit. Problem is, those units are currently sold out online. Next pump up is 80k BTU, is it okay to purchase a pump that can heat 15,000 gallons or will I be bleeding money and energy by not waiting and sizing up?

2023.05.28 18:23 sto243 Tankless Water Heater Question
I am buying a property in the Ocean City, NJ area. I want to replace the existing water heater with a tankless model. I will be using and renting the property, so there may be upwards of 10 people in the house at one time. The house has 2 bathrooms. Is a tankless water heater going to be able to keep up with the load if both showers are running? If so then what size/btu rating should I be looking for and what are your preferred brands?

2023.05.25 19:28 VibrantDreamer Received Quotes For Furnace + Heat Pump + Water Heater
Hello Friends,
I
posted this asking for recommendations on Reddit and promised to give an update when I have the quotes. So I ended up getting quotes from multiple companies which I will provide below (I am rounding the numbers here and TAX is included).
As you will see below, the prices are all over the place due to different models and recommendations.
Here is my thought process.
Combustion RP, Thermo-Maitre, and Chaffage Climatisation Lalonde didn't make the cut due to the high prices.
Now, I have to choose between SAF Combustion and MT Ventilation. Honestly, I liked SAF Combustion tech more. He was very polite, came on time, and precise. Took measurements and his quote is very detailed with all the work that will be performed. However, I don't know anything about Boreal brand and the warranty isn't the best which makes me worried.
MT Ventilation, the tech was late. He texted me asking if I am home, I said yes. He said be there in 15 min. Then in 10 min he texted and asked for my address (which I already provided). Kind of shows how reliable / organized they are"not". Then the quote only had 3 lines, the model and price. No details on any work they are going to do. They didn't even put the warranty details on the quote and I had to ask for it. BUT Trane is a great brand and very well trusted. We actually use it in our manufacture (huge production system) for HVAC and happy with the system.
So, what do you think? What would you do? Go with the less known QC made brand with less warranty but good company or with the not very good company installer but best brand? Combustion RP: heat pump 36000 BTU TOSOT tu36-24wadu, air handlers TOSOT tu36-24aadu, water heater Giant 60 G, all electric panel work, remove old equipment, installation included.
$20,700 Warranty: water heater : 8 years tank 6 years parts 1 year labor, heat pump and air handlers : 10 years parts 2 years labor
Thermo-Maitre: Heat Pump Daikin DZ17VSA301B (Condenser) + Coil / Evaporator , Furnace Daikin DV35FECC14. Includes installation. NO Water Heater.
$18,400 Warranty: For $95 a year maintenance fee, 12 years labor and 12 years parts
Chauffage Climatisation Lalonde: 15 KW TOSOT ( Air Handler) Furnace TUD24-24AH2ADU and TOSOT 24,000Btu Thermo Pump TU36-24WAD (No water heater) =
$15,800 Warranty: Furnace: Warranty: 10 years parts and 1 year labor, Heat pump: 10 years parts, 10 years compressor and 5 years 100% labor
SAF Combustion: Furnace Boréal Model: ENERMAXX ENVBR24HPJ1IB , Heat Pump: Boreal ENVBR36HPJ1OA, Water heater Giant 60 Gal, All included.
$12,900 Warranty: Furnace: 5 years warranty on parts 1 year labor, Heat pump: 10 year warranty on compressor , Water heater: 8 year warranty on perforation
MT Ventilation: Furnace Trane 4MXA2036A10NUAA, Heat pump Trane 4TXD2036A10NUAA, Water heater Giant 60 Gal. All work included.
$13,500 Warranty: 10 years parts, 1 year labor
RGCV: They came, did the inspection and said they will email me the quote on the following day. But it has been weeks, 2 emails, and 2 text messages and no quote yet. Even though, they were recommended on the previous post, I won't be considering them.
Thanks.

2023.05.24 23:06 -Gordon-Shumway- Shed Electrification & Subpanel
We moved into a house that has a pool. The previous owner built a shed nearby and I found that it's right on top of the conduit that goes to the pool. I'd like to have lights in the shed and maybe a couple outlets so I thought the best way would be to cut the conduit going from the house to the pool such that it goes up into the shed, have a Subpanel in there, then go back down to the conduit that continues on to the pool.
The conduit is 3/4" PVC, already buried, currently with 5 AWG12 THHN wires. These 5 wires are on two circuits, one (two of the wires) is 240V/20A (that I recently changed to a GFCI breaker). The other 3 weird go to a 120V breaker. The 120V line feeds a GFCI outlet that also protects the pool lights downstream. The 240V line goes to a DPST that powers a 1.5HP VS pump and a 300kBTU heater. These should be on separate circuits but I'll deal with that some other time.
My thought is to use those 5 wires to pull 3 AWG6 (L1, L2, N) and 1 AWG10 (G) through that conduit into the shed. The run will be around 80-110'. Some online calculators tell me that's about the most I can put in that conduit (using the downsized ground) and still get about 50/60A of service in that panel. I'm not sure if I need a 50 or 60A breaker, but I assume this can be a regular breaker and I can put GFCI breakers in the Subpanel for the pump.
I put together some plans so I could visualize it and I attached them here. I have a bunch of questions on there and I'm not sure if exactly the BOM I need to send in an order to the electrical supply store.
Thanks in advance to whoever actually takes the time to review it. Tips, pointers, issues and resolutions, etc. are greatly appreciated; I'd love to learn more.
