2023.06.07 04:43 autobuzzfeedbot 17 "Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse" Details That Are So Good Because Of How They Foreshadow "Across The Spider-Verse"
- First, right before Miles is bitten, the spider swinging down glitches several times, which is now an obvious sign that this spider is not from Miles' Earth.
- And you can clearly see a "42" written on the back of the spider that bites Miles. Of course, in Across the Spider-Verse, we learn that the spider that bit Miles was from Earth-42.
- When Miles swings and falls from a building in Into the Spider-Verse, you'll see he lands between the numbers 4 and 2. A reference to Miles being bit by a spider from Earth-42.
- In Into the Spider-Verse, the number 42 also pops up on the price tag for the Spider-Man costume Miles buys from Stan. Again, another nod to Earth-42, which is explored more in Across the Spider-Verse.
- Also, the lottery ball number that is seen in the beginning of Into the Spider-Verse reads "42," another nod to Earth-42 and its connection to our Miles Morales.
- When Miles captures Peter B., he ties him to a punching bag, which is exactly how Earth-42 Miles, aka Prowler-Miles, and Uncle Aaron capture our Miles at the end of Across the Spider-Verse.
- Also, Peter B. escapes Miles' little trap and gives him his first lesson: "Don't watch the mouth, watch the hands." I'm only assuming Miles will use this trick to escape, as we see him using his shock powers on the chains he's tied up with, but Prowler-Miles is too distracted talking to Miles to notice in Across the Spider-Verse.
- In Across the Spider-Verse, when The Spot is telling Miles about how he became The Spot, he mentions how Miles hit him with a bagel. You can see this exact moment in Into the Spider-Verse when Miles and Peter B. are trying to escape Dr. Olivia Octavius.
- At one point in Into the Spider-Verse, we see Miles' spidey-senses tingle when he meets his Earth's Peter Parker, but they are purple and green before they shift to blue and red. The Prowler's signature colors are purple and green, so this foreshadows the twist of Prowler-Miles from Earth-42.
- When Peter Parker is introducing himself in the beginning of Into the Spider-Verse, he says how he has a "so-so popsicle." In Across the Spider-Verse, when Miles is being chased by all of the Spider-People, the popsicle is one of the Spider-Man variants chasing him.
- When Miles visits Uncle Aaron, you can see Community Season 2, Episode 1 is playing on the TV. In the episode, Donald Glover can be seen dressed as Spider-Man, and it started a fan campaign of people wanting Donald to play Spider-Man. In Across the Spider-Verse, Donald makes a cameo as an alternate version of Aaron/Prowler.
- When Gwen tells her story in Into the Spider-Verse, she mentions how her best friend, Peter Parker, died. Of course, in Across the Spider-Verse, we watch this whole moment play out as the opening of the movie.
- You can also see Peter shift from Lizard to Peter in Into the Spider-Verse, which again, is explained in more detail when we follow Gwen's life and what led to her joining Miguel and Jessica in Across the Spider-Verse.
- In Into the Spider-Verse, when we meet Peter B., he mentions how he and MJ broke up because she wanted kids and he wasn't ready. Then, in Across the Spider-Verse, he has a daughter and tells Miles he finally felt ready because of him.
- When Fisk's super-collider goes off in the beginning of the movie, the black spots are much more obvious now that we know about The Spot and his connection to everything. Even when the other Spider-People come to Miles' Earth, the spots on the portals are so obvious now.
- While I'm not sure this is on purpose, when Miles paints his mural with Uncle Aaron in Into the Spider-Verse, his silhouette looks a lot like The Spot, with black and white being the main colors. Again, might be reaching here, but it's something I paused at while rewatching.
- And finally, in the Into the Spider-Verse post-credits scene, we see Miguel make his first multiverse jump to Earth-67, where he clearly is trying to recruit that Earth's Spider-Man to join his Spider-Society. Of course, they instead get into an argument about pointing.

2023.06.07 04:33 LGBTQIA_Over50 on avg how much does a tooth extraction cost & will they help me avoid pain? USA
I decided since I couldn't get the ER at a hospital to give me anything for pain reduction, and a local "dental school that never returned my calls" to examine and treat me, I will pay a dentist to extract my tooth.
I've been treated horribly by the nonprofit dental schools. They had nothing to offer me. Not returning calls, booked out until October. I can't believe anyone here suggested "just go to a dental school."
They don't care. They just want any warm body to show up in line without an appointment. What if there was pain post appointment and you can't even reach them? He'll no.
In NVA they aren't a viable resource at all for emergency dental help. Not at all.
I'll worry about saving up for an implant and crown later.
The pain is unbearable and risking a root canal and crown isn't worth it.
I have never had a tooth pulled, not one that is cracked (lower molar with an amalgam filling).
Does the dentist insert a needle to numb the area?
When its removed (will I feel it)?
Recover process, what does that entail and will I have a big hole or do they suture it up?
Do they remove the nerves too and is that what is causing the pain?
Its the left lower molar, 2nd from the back.
Approximately what should I budget since dental schools aren't reliable, not available, and don't have anyone to answer calls or return voice messages to me.
I'm on Fairfax and Chantilly Virginia
Again, can they numb me after an Xray and make sure I don't feel pain?

2023.06.07 04:22 Madselaine Any light-hearted, good distraction-worthy podcast episode recommendations?
Hey everyone. There was a shooting at a high school graduation in my city today. When I stopped by the gas station on my way home from work, there was a guy who had been there. His daughter was a graduating senior. He described some of what he saw and it was awful.
My sister was a freshman at Virginia Tech when the shooting happened there. No one should have to go through this type of thing. Our lieutenant governor has already used this as an opportunity to spew garbage.
I know this isn’t quite the purpose of this sub, but I feel like this is one of the few places on Reddit where I could post this type of thing without getting lots of nasty, derogatory comments. This stuff hits home, and at least for tonight, I don’t want to spiral into rage and despair. So any light-hearted, fun, interesting, podcast recommendations to put on while doing plant chores and processing things would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Sorry, I should’ve worded the title better. I was thinking more of other podcasts/ podcast episodes, not really BTB episodes.
Link to Goad Gatsby’s coverage, including the AH Lt. Governor’s speech

2023.06.07 02:57 twcsata I watched Coach Carter (2005)
I guess it's not that old, but it fits the rules, and I hadn't watched it before. I didn't go looking for this one, but my 15yo son wanted to watch it, and that turned out to be a pretty good decision.
I'm not from an urban background--much closer to the opposite, actually. So I can't relate directly to the things the characters in this movie--which is based on a true story--were going through. But at the time it came out, I was living near Richmond, Virginia (not the same Richmond as in the movie), and working in a jail. I met a lot of guys from that kind of background, and heard a lot of rough stories from them. I'm not going to act like that makes their experiences mine--it doesn't--but it gave me just enough first- and second-hand knowledge to give my kid some context for it. He was born two years after this movie came out, and though we lived there for a few more years, he's too young to remember any of it.
Anyway. Personal experiences or not, this movie is fantastic. I'm not usually big on sports movies; but I challenge anyone to watch this one and not feel at least a little inspired. Samuel L. Jackson is great as always; this performance is about halfway between Shaft and Nick Fury for him, and you can see a little of both characters in him here. I don't know much about what the real Ken Carter is like, but if he's anything like this portrayal, I'd get off my own fat ass and play basketball for him. (Probably die in the effort, but oh well.)
And that's really it. No particular details leap out at me; the movie is just great all around. The only part I couldn't get my head around was seeing Channing Tatum play a high schooler--I didn't realize he was that young. Anyway, go watch it if you haven't seen it. Not currently streaming for free (at least on any service I have), but available for rent most anywhere.
Currently watching Fargo for the first time, so maybe I'll post that one next.

2023.06.07 02:55 Throw062023 Advice Needed - sister leaving narc husband and child support/moving states
Warning: long post and on mobile... looking for advice for my sister and her narc.
My sister lives in Delaware and has a 7 month old with her husband. While my sister was visiting our mother in Virginia over Mother's Day weekend (she's been coming down regularly the last 6 months due to my father's health before he passed in early April and subsequently to help our mom), he moved out of their Delaware house and all of his stuff and moved into his parents house in Pennsylvania. He texted her that Tuesday morning that he moved out in order to "work on himself". He's claiming he was afraid to leave any of his stuff at the house in case she threw it out the window in a fit of rage if he left, and claiming he's afraid of her. I have been talking to her about narcissistic traits, and him claiming to be the victim is laughable since she is the one with photo proof of bruises from him holding her back from leaving the house while she was pregnant and other times he tossed her into cabinetry (unfortunately, she did not document with police any time ...). He's the one that forces her to move to Delaware and leave a job in order to accommodate his latest job change and isolate her away from friends and support she had in Pennsylvania (let alone the house that was in her name that she bought on her own).
Note that he was the one that basically forced her hand into going to Virginia that weekend for her FIRST Mother's Day by not planning anything for her and saying he assumed she was going to mom's. And I mean... he took everything of his, down to clothes he's never worn that don't fit, and later justifying it was because he wanted to "take time to go through everything". He seems to be making up excuses for why he left when he did (claims he didn't make the decision until that Monday night when she video called him with the baby saying her first words... dada), excuses for him taking everything, etc. And has since also been love bombing her and wanting to hug her and hold her hand when they did see each a couple times since he left. She's uncomfortable with this, and he wouldn't have a conversation about anything until she allowed him his forced hug... He also didn't want her to tell anyone other than her immediate family (in my mind... so he can keep up his bullshitting and appearances with the neighbors and keep her isolated). Luckily she had talked with neighbors prior to that to see if they noticed anything once she got back to the house in Delaware, so she has some local support.
She'd been wanting to leave prior to all this, but kept saying that staying with him "allowed her to be a stay at home mom and raise her kid" without daycare... so she wasn't going to leave on her own. She's the one that takes care of the baby. He comes home and goes straight onto his computer games. There was over a week in May where he never said a word to her. She decided she had to try, and slept in the same room as him, and he complained that it "threw off his routine". But him moving out forces her hand and she is now more willing to see through with leaving him. She's been trying to gray rock, and is only responding to his texts about how the baby is doing (it took him over a week to even ask about the kid...), she's not responding whenever he's asked anything about herself, and just minimally responding in nonconfrontational ways. He's been trying to get her to agree to some church counseling together, but she's hesitant. We've been telling her she has to make her choices for herself and trying not to say too much that she wouldn't be comfortable keeping us in the loop is she does decide to stay with him. So I've suggested if she does want counseling with him, then do it with an independent and licensed counselor and not one he's found through his therapist at a church.
She did also go to an attorney for a consultation to get info about divorce and custody in Delaware before making any choices. Unfortunately, that discussion with the lawyer has her afraid that she'd have to stay in Delaware since that is the child's legal residence if she files for divorce/custody. Even though he's left to Pennsylvania.. She just wants to be in Virginia. She could move into mom's for the time being. She's worried he'll move back into the house if she leaves it, so it would put his residence back in Delaware as well.
She's trying to find a way out. Trying to think if she can somehow convince him to sell the house, use money to pay off his extensive student loans and let her move to Virginia to "work on herself" (to use his language) by going back to school that my parents had offered to pay for for years. I think if she phrases it as "splitting the money, his and hers" that he'll balk at that, because he won't want her to have her own money. She'd rather wait to file divorce and custody after she and the baby have established residency in Virginia (6 months), so it wouldn't be stuck in Delaware. But also afraid that it wouldn't look good to the court to do move to Virginia to do so. The consulted Delaware lawyer told her she is free right now (before filing anything) to go wherever as normal, but anything over a few days and she needs to let him know (get his okay), and if she files... then she couldn't leave Delaware with the baby without permission.
He only asks about the baby when wants to bring her to his family events, since none of them know he moved out, I'm sure to try to make himself look like a good fathehusband. He doesn't take care of her. His mother has also been texting trying to look like a caring person to my sister and that she's there if she needs anything... but they've never gotten along, and she's the one that helped move her son out of the house, so it's just more gaslighting.
Any advice or suggestions on how to handle the divorce/custody and moving to a different state?? My sister had no ties to Delaware other than the house. She doesn't have a job or family there other than her daughter. She doesn't want to be there, but is afraid the baby (and her by extension) won't be able to leave Delaware if she files..

2023.06.07 01:56 InformationCarper Should I do my undergrad for Business at GMU over VT?
Hi everyone, i’m currently attending NVCC and I have no idea which college to pick. The major I’m aiming for is either Accounting, OSM or MIS at Mason, and BIT-OSM or ACIS at Tech. It’s a wide range I know, but it’ll narrow down in the next two semesters.
I’m about to be a sophomore, and I need to know which college to pick so every credit will transfer. I’m also planning on taking CLEP Exams for Gen Ed’s, and both schools have different required exams for them. I’m really not trying to retake a class at either college. Saying this I’d like to know the pros and cons of attending George Mason over Virginia Tech and vice versa. I posted the same question on the
VirginiaTech forum and I got some really good answers and feedback, I’d like to know the perspective from a Mason student too.
For reference, I live 40 minutes from the main campus of GMU, so commuting wouldn’t be hard at all. Family is great, I don’t get charged rent or utilities as long as I get good grades, so financially speaking GMU would save me thousands. However, I don’t know how strong it’s alumni presences is and it’s job/internship opportunities are compared to Tech. Tech has the name brand, alumni and ranking compared to GMU, with a lot of opportunities, but location is less than ideal and it’ll be much more expensive.
Overall, i’d really like to hear your feedback and opinions on either university. It would help a lot!

2023.06.07 01:43 honestly_i_dont_even Should we move even if it means living paycheck to paycheck temporarily?
Hey all! I posted something similar in
adulting but figured I'd try my luck here. I'll put a TLDR at the end and try to clean up the format from my last post.
My girlfriend (mid 20's) and I (late 20's) live in California and we've been struggling recently. We live with her family in a multigenerational home because we're completely out priced in the area where studio apartments start at $2500 a month not including utilities, pet fees, any associated miscellaneous fees. We just can't afford to live here anymore, even with dual income at $100k/year combined.
High gas costs, high food costs, high car insurance costs, private sector utility costs, pet fees for rentals, requirement for internet due to remote work, etc. means we'd be spending around $3200 a month just to have a roof over our head in a 300sqft space, and that's over half of our take-home pay - and from there we get drained just because everything else ends up nickel and diming us to death. If we wanted a 1 bdrm, we wouldn't be approved, and the housing market is so competitive that once something is listed, it usually gets rented out within the day.
We were debating moving back to my home state, where renting an entire 3 bedroom house would be half the cost of a studio here, and I can afford it on my own single income. We could maybe even buy a house in the future if all goes well, but we could never own a house here unless we won the lottery. If we move, I can retain my job but she can't retain hers due to license differences in California vs. Pennsylvania so she'll be out of work temporarily until she either finds someone to make an exception or a different field of work. She wants to move and is adamant on it, but I just feel like something doesn't sit well with me.
I moved a ton by myself over the years across the entire United States, but I was single. I now feel a responsibility to ensuring we don't make a mistake. I'm worried if we move, she could get homesick, or worst case, depressed. I'm worried it could take her months to find a replacement job, and I don't want her to feel guilty for me carrying the household financially but I definitely won't be able to put any money back in the interim. I have a savings of $15,000 that I'd use towards the move, but because I'm keeping my job and she'd be out of hers, I don't know if it's even fair to ask her to chip in what little money she does have towards anything. I also know she could never contribute as much as me in the move because she doesn't have much of a savings. I don't think it'll cost more than $4,000 to get us a place + setup + minimal furnishing to get started, and I don't mind losing that money to the move either.
I really need some insight and advice on how we should approach this. When I moved before, I cannonballed myself and didn't care if I went broke, but I can't let that happen in this case. I just feel responsible for her emotions in this case to ensure we can have an actual household together, versus being miserable where we currently are.
Has anyone moved across the country with their SO? How'd it work out for you? Is it okay to live paycheck to paycheck temporarily if it means having a better life overall?
TL;DR: We want to move and can't afford to stay in California. I have a savings, she doesn't, and I'm worried about being financially responsible for two people instead of just myself. Any advice?

So content marketing is 'cheap', eh? People often say "just start writing blog posts" as if founders moonlight as poets! Hire a writer then? Good ones are expensive, but okay. Then, behold your masterpiece, lost on the 10th page of Google and the chances of it ranking first is as likely as winning the lottery. Backlinks? More time, more money. Buffer, HubSpot and the likes shines, sure, but their budget could bail out small nations. What to do?

2023.06.06 23:01 hiltonsomer1 From Design to Accountability: Navigating the Depths of Product Liability
| https://preview.redd.it/24olhop6pg4b1.jpg?width=5721&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7249011018cc881f15baf084b3dfb712cecdd5e Product liability refers to the legal responsibility of manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, and retailers for injuries caused by defective or dangerous products. When consumers purchase a product, they have the right to expect that it is safe to use as intended. However, if a product is defective or poses a risk to users, it can lead to serious injuries, property damage, or even death. In such cases, the concept of product liability comes into play, holding the responsible parties accountable for the harm caused. Understanding the intricacies of product liability is crucial, both for consumers who have suffered injuries and for manufacturers who want to ensure they are in compliance with the law. In this blog post, we will delve deeper into the concept of product liability, examining its various aspects and discussing the legal framework surrounding it. Product liability is primarily governed by state laws, which can vary to some extent. However, certain common principles are widely recognized across jurisdictions. One such principle is that a product must be reasonably safe when used as intended or in a foreseeable manner. This means that manufacturers have a duty to design and produce products that do not pose unnecessary risks to consumers. If a product deviates from this standard due to a design defect, manufacturing defect, or inadequate warning, it can be considered defective and the responsible parties may be held liable. There are three main types of product defects that can give rise to product liability claims: - Design Defects: These occur when a flaw in the product’s design makes it inherently dangerous or unreasonably unsafe. In such cases, the entire line of products may be affected, and the manufacturer may be required to recall or modify the design.
- Manufacturing Defects: These defects arise during the manufacturing or assembly process and affect only a limited number of products. Manufacturing defects can occur due to errors in production, faulty components, or substandard quality control.
- Marketing Defects: Also known as failure-to-warn defects, marketing defects involve inadequate warnings or instructions accompanying a product. Manufacturers have a duty to provide clear and sufficient warnings about potential risks associated with the use of their products.
Product liability cases can be complex, involving multiple parties, extensive investigations, and expert testimony. If you have been injured due to a defective product, it is crucial to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney who specializes in product liability cases. They can evaluate the circumstances surrounding your injury, gather evidence, and build a strong case on your behalf. Manufacturers and businesses, on the other hand, must prioritize product safety and ensure that their products undergo thorough testing and quality control measures. By doing so, they can minimize the risk of product defects and potential liability claims. It is also essential for them to stay informed about product liability laws and regulations to ensure compliance. In conclusion, product liability is a critical aspect of consumer protection. When a defective or dangerous product causes harm, the responsible parties can be held accountable through product liability claims. Whether you are a consumer seeking compensation for injuries or a manufacturer aiming to prevent liability issues, understanding product liability is crucial. By working with a reputable personal injury law firm, such as Hilton and Somer, you can navigate the complexities of product liability law and protect your rights or your business. 2023.06.06 22:57 CondoConnectionPNW The Value of Ombuds Programs
A recent poll asked folks to answer a Yes / No question related to ombuds programs: should CAI support them or not. Homeowners definitely need more access to free and/or low-cost, high efficiency resources to help enforce the law, but ombuds programs might not be the answer.
This post asks two different questions: - have you used an ombuds program?
- do you consider your use of the program successful? Please explain why.
- EDIT: if you have NOT used an ombuds program, what do you perceive as the value?
Examining several random cases plucked from the list of
Virginia ombuds determinations for 2022-2023, I'm not enthused. Take this example of
2023-00231 for the Bien Venue Plantation. Here are a few quotes:
Unfortunately, for the bulk of this NFAD and the complaint that it stems from, I cannot provide a determination since there is not sufficient information to determine if there was a violation of common interest community law. Merely alleging such a violation without any supporting documentation or other form of evidence is not enough, especially when the Association's response denies the allegations.
LACKING EVIDENCE FROM THE COMPLAINANT + TRITE RESPONSE FROM THE ASSOCIATION.
The association was in violation of §55.1-1811 when it charged for disclosure packets during a period of time when it had not filed an annual report with the Common Interest Community Board. However, there were no specifics as to the disclosure packets issued during this time. I do find that the Association should not have charged for disclosure packets for any time that it was not current in its registration with the Common Interest Community Board. The Association has updated its registration and is now in compliance. We do not have the authority to require repayment of the disclosure packet fees. Owners may want to seek legal counsel if they wish to determine if they can be reimbursed.
NO AUTHORITY TO REQUIRE REPAYMENT OF FEES THAT WERE CHARGED ILLEGALLY.
There were several areas of concern related to the Association's response to the Complaint. Specifically, the Association failed to provide necessary information in its final decision. The Common Interest Community Ombudsman Regulations require an association to include its registration number in a final decision, it must also include the name and license number of the common interest community manager, if applicable, and finally it must notify the complainant of his right to file a Notice of Final Adverse Decision with this office and include the necessary contact information. In addition, the complaint procedure submitted with the NFAD appears to be missing provisions required by the Common Interest Community Ombudsman Regulations.
"AREAS OF CONCERN"
No action is required of the Association as it pertains to allegations contained in the complaint. With a new board in place, however, I would encourage the Association to fully acquaint itself with the Property Owners' Association Act so that it can ensure that it follows it precisely.
NO ACTION REQUIRED...
The Association must ensure that it is familiar with these requirements and include the above information in all future final decisions. In addition, the Association needs to return to the Common Interest Community Ombudsman Regulations and update its complaint procedure to include all necessary requirements contained in those regulations. I ask that the Association provide me a copy of its updated complaint procedure in 21 days, or no later than September 11, 2022. The revised complaint procedure can be sent via email or regular mail to my attention.

Finally, it appears the Association may have carried out consideration of the complaint in an executive session. Unless the reason for doing so met one of the acceptable reasons outlined in §55.1-1816(C), consideration should be held in an open meeting with notice provided to owners as required under the same statute.

2023.06.06 22:48 AbeLincolnTowncar Discussion on /r/WestVirginia's place in planned Reddit protests
You may be aware of recent decisions by Reddit to change how they charge 3rd party app developers for API access to the Reddit platform. This has been seen by many as a targeted move by Reddit to kill 3rd party access in preparation for an IPO (i.e., increase their share price). Even if you don't directly use a 3rd party application this change has the potential to affect many quality-of-life bots and workflows (for moderators and regular users alike) that independent developers have created over the years.
This infographic provides a summary of the impact of the changes.
There is a large movement across many subreddits to protest this decision. Many subs are electing to set themselves to private between June 12 and June 14. This effectively will make any subreddit participating in the protest unavailable to view or post. The basic idea is to starve Reddit of traffic (and ad revenue) to express the collective community's disapproval with their choices and treatment of 3rd party apps/developers.
This post provides more detail about the planned protests.
The
/WestVirginia Mod Team has decided this is
not a decision that we should unilaterally make on behalf of the sub, so we're asking all of you to weigh in.
Please let us know your thoughts whether you think /WestVirginia should participate in the protest. submitted by

2023.06.06 22:43 Suspicious-Win-802 Remember middle finger guy? I knew him.
I’ve seen numerous posts about what this subreddit has affectionately called “middle finger guy”. I’ll get straight to the point, I’m his nephew once removed (he’s my mom’s cousin). Feel free to ask anything. I’ve seen him on video going around the area acting beyond insane, and I gotta say it was a little jarring.
David used to be a regular in the family, he had his quirks, but he was a full fledged democrat back in 2016. He was quite intelligent, being extremely competent at chess which everyone would challenge him at the gathering and he’d beat everyone with ease!
Their side of the family had always struggled with some mental faculties in many respects. I’m told his brother was diagnosed with failure to thrive after David was left to care for him for years as a child himself. David’s mother had BAAAAD schizophrenia and was unable to care for them. David’s brother to this very day talks to him occasionally, but only briefly.
This caused him to say something to my mom one night at a gathering when he was in his more lucid days. “My biggest fear is turning out like my mom.” My mother is a licensed therapist in SD and is somewhat familiar with just about every mental disorder. Looking back on it now, this sentence eerily foreshadowed what was to come…
It all changed when one member of the family died, Brent, David’s father. Now, he’s been going around people in the family claiming they think he killed his father. I’m not even going near answering that… but, if there is one thing I believe my mother informed me about mental illness, especially psychoactive ones such as schizophrenia, it’s that they usually take a catalyst to make themselves known. A catalyst such as your father dying? Probably. It would line up on the timeline for when he lost his shit.
David, coming from a family member and person who also failed on the genetic lottery of mental illness, PLEASE seek help! I know you read these because you respond to just about everyone. You’re not lucid, what you said to my mother has come true. I’m sure you can figure out who i am through this post, I assure you none of us want to see you do this.

2023.06.06 21:10 A__European [3] US State Highways NM Speedrun #66 (1 min timer) Mother Road Edition
Challenge #66. Which challenge would be better suited for a tribute to U.S. Route 66? All locations of this challenge are along the Historic U.S. Highway 66. This highway was established in 1926 and was probably one of the most famous roads in the U.S. It was removed from the U.S. highway system in 1985 after it was entirely replaced by interstate highways. Parts of the old route live on as state highways. Get your kicks on challenge 66! Here is the soundtrack for your trip:
https://youtu.be/IPrIxKxQZF8. :-)
Challenge link:
https://www.geoguessr.com/challenge/8ZaJKSdFKRmgCzgbo We don't play on the regular map this week. The threshold for 5k is a bit smaller than usual but all locations are pinpointable. For everyone who is new to this challenge series, this is the map that we usually play:
US State Highways.
Deadline: June 13, 7 pm UTC (12 pm noon PDT, 3 pm EDT, 9 pm CEST).
You are facing a U.S. state route sign. Do you recognize the state without moving? How fast can you find the route number on the map? You have just one minute! Good luck and have fun! :-)
Please post your score as comment in this thread if you want to have it counted for the leaderboard (every posted score counts!).
Here are the results for challenge #65. Congrats to bdm6985 for winning the challenge with a perfect score!

Last challenge (Just a short summary this week):
R1 - R4: We had highway signs showing the state names in R1, R2, and R3. All three locations were at intersections with major U.S. highways. We had the unique highway sign of Virginia in R4. There was a directional sign to "Route 301". Most VA state highways with three digits that start with a 3 are very short highways or are serving state institutions. Therefore, it was very likely that "Route 301" meant U.S. highway 301. Looking for the US highways and then scanning along the highways for the state routes was probably the best method to find the locations in R1 to R4.
R5: State outline of South Dakota. SD-1806 runs in several sections along the Missouri River. It continues as ND-1806 in North Dakota. SD-1804 and ND-1804 run on the other side of the river. The road numbers are references to the "Lewis and Clark Expedition" that took place between 1804 and 1806.

2023.06.06 20:51 ericd50 Something to remember from a Founding Father as we engage in culture wars
Extract from Thomas Jefferson’s Notes on the State of Virginia
The error seems not sufficiently eradicated, that the operations of the mind, as well as the acts of the body, are subjects to the coercion of the laws. But our rulers can have authority over such natural rights only as we have submitted to them. The rights of conscience we never submitted, we could not submit. We are answerable for them to our God. The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others.
But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.
[Query XVII, “Religion”]
EDIT: I just want to say that there is a difference between things that I’m offended by and things that personally impact me. Don’t conflate one with the other.
EDIT2: I’m not saying TJ was a paragon of virtue by today’s standards. Yes, all of the founding fathers were the elite of the day. He owned slaves. But he also contributed to a foundation of ideals that were revolutionary for their time. Of course I wish they would be applied more evenly than they have throughout history, but that’s the whole point of this post.
I’m not trying solve every problem our state faces. I am just trying to point out that the idea of persecuting others simply because their ideas aren’t yours, isn’t a new idea. If you think that’s wrong, and we should instead bend everyone to our way of thinking, I can’t help you.

2023.06.06 20:38 thatsinkguy My Experience so Far (Dr. Ramineni, DC)
Long post, important information.
Hey so I wanted to post here about my top surgery experience so far as I haven’t seen too many people talking about Dr. Praful Ramineni too much here, and felt it would be important to document for any friends pursuing top surgery with him.
First off, he was recommended to me via a friend who got top surgery with him, and another friend went with Dr. Cassie Nghiem (same plastic surgery office and surgical center). Both are excellent surgeons with fantastic results + reputations. Going into my consultation was very easy, but be ready to provide your insurance (if you have any), ID, payment method, and I highly recommend bringing your therapist’s referral on the day of consultation as it will make the process go to much faster.
The office is very nice and they were able to get me in and see me very quickly, a bit before my appointment time. It is important to ask him lots of questions as he will explain the procedure and what you qualify for, but doesn’t go too in depth about scar options, placement options, etc. My advice is to ask about those aesthetic options on the first appointment, even though I didn’t. I asked about common complications, pain management strategies (as I didn’t want to take opioids), and post operative care and treatment options. It is important to note any pre-existing medical conditions/neurological conditions as it may affect the surgery.
After that consult, because I was able to provide documentation from my psychiatrist regarding the surgery, he immediately gave me a date, May 30th.
Important thing to note is that my friend had previously struggled with insurance issues at his office so emailing their insurance team and getting in contact with your insurance to see how much it will be is very important. I will admit I am still in the blind about the true amount I owe. The surgical center bill was around $800 with my insurance (BCBS) and that is not counting the separate bill for Dr. Ramineni or the anesthesiologist, so do keep that in mind.
I got my pre-op instructions two weeks before my appointment and was also called by Glen Echo Surgical Center staff in order to verify the price I would be paying that day as well as my previous medical information that might be pertinent to the surgery. They were super helpful over the phone and the pre-op instructions were very clear. I received my post-op meds around the same time.
Day of, the worst part was the wait. Got there a bit early so it was partially my fault, but they were also running a little behind. I needed my ID, form of payment, insurance card, and proof of vaccination. Paperwork was easy, and eventually I was pulled in to get ready. The woman helping me through pre-op was named Barbara and she was extremely sweet and calmed my nerves a lot. Essentially the process is: pee in a cup, get disrobed and in a gown, take the meds the pre-op nurse gives you, and then get the heart monitor and IV hooked up. Easy peasy.
Like I said, my appointment was late and I was unsure as to why but too excited to really care. The anesthesiologist came in and asked me questions to ensure he would be able to provide correct dosages and explained to me that while I would be under, they would intubate me. After this, Dr. Ramineni came by, asked me a few questions, and at this point he asked “any special requests?” to which I didn’t understand what he meant, and said “no.”
This is the time where I should have showed him pictures of placements or physiques I liked, but due to this misunderstanding, didn’t. I’m not super upset about this, as I know he has great results, it’s just one of those miscommunication things that might impact potential overall satisfaction for the surgery. (please keep in mind I am still wearing the surgical binder and have been unable to see my results yet, though i’ve peaked under a little and am pretty satisfied with nipple placement and whatnot.)
Staff at Glen Echo were more than kind and helpful upon returning from my surgery and offered me drinks to help wake me up from anesthesia. I cracked jokes in my half-awake foggy brain and they all laughed along— spirits were high and it was an excellent experience. I was able to go home within that hour and recovery since has been very smooth.
One thing I am very grateful for is the swiftness at which Ramineni and his staff respond to emails and questions. I once emailed him concerns about my drainage outputs at 9:30pm (felt a bit bad about that) and he was still very quick to answer.
I will make an update post on Thursday, as that is when I see my chest for the first time and get the drains removed! If you have any questions, feel free to AMA! this is mainly for my Virginia/Maryland/DC friends seeking out top surgeons in the area!

2023.06.06 20:37 thinkstohimself Coping with the tough decision of having a child or not
My wife and I (both 34) were pretty set on never getting pregnant so about 6 years ago I got snipped. We told ourselves if we wanted a child we could always adopt. Fast forward and now she's seeing all her friends having babies and she wants one too. She regrets the vasectomy and wants me to get it reversed, but I'm glad I got it done tbh. In the face of collapse, we're about to sell our home in Arizona and move to Virginia to start an off-grid eco-village in the pursuit of a more resilient life. I'd love to make this place kid-friendly so it's attractive to families who want a similar lifestyle but maybe this is just a pipe dream. I just can't bring myself to have a child with their future being so uncertain and I'm also worried that a child now could derail our long term goals. I'd be happy to father a child once our trajectory is more optimistic, but by then I know it'll be too late for a safe pregnancy and we're coming to realize that adopting is prohibitively expensive.
Every time she laments about wanting a baby, all I can do is remind her of why I got snipped in the first place and that this isn't what I want either. Our hands are tied because the world is falling apart around us and having a child now is just selfish (I don't say it so harshly ofc). Needless to say those conversations don't end on a positive note but I'm just not sure how to balance sensitivity with realism. There's just no way to spin this in a good way.
I'm not sure what I'm hoping for with this post. Partly venting. Partly looking for advice. Anyone know of affordable ways to adopt that we might not have considered?

2023.06.06 19:25 IAlbatross [Thank you] Over 30 cards for an over-thirty guy!
Just celebrated my 35th birthday last week and was hoping for 35 cards. Well, I did it, and naturally, this subreddit provided the lion's share of the well wishes!
At the end are two cards whose users I don't know. If you responded to my
"milestone birthday" post and one of these were sent by you, please let me know so I can give you the credit you deserve!
Without further ado, here's the shout-outs:

heymorganm - Thank you for the card. I loved the little "happy birthday" banner you put on the outside.
littlemermaidxx - Thank you for the card. That superhero corgi? *chef's kiss*
spaaaaaacey - Thank you for the card. You were the only person who thought to include an Uno card. I liked the collage with my name on it as well.
MaeveTheBrave - Thank you for the card. Always glad to meet another Iron Man fan - I appreciated the stickers!
jane_q - Thank you for the card. Thank you for the card. I ADORED the hand-drawn hamster eating a strawberry. You've got some real art skill!
welshfancy - Thank you for the card. I am such a HUGE fan of the classic, retro Iron Man look, so your stickers were perfect!
u/welshfancy - Thank you for the second card with MORE stickers! That SoCal vibe is so thing. 100% groovy.
rosiealeo1 - Thank you for the card. You probably get this a lot but your handwriting is lovely, and I enjoyed the nature stickers.
primaryloon - Thank you for the card. The bicycle motif was really cool and I loved the texture of the card, too.
Themis3000 - Thank for for the card. I LOVED the hamster stickers. I'm one of those people who always gets anxiety about where to stick stickers but I think these are destined for my work water bottle so I can look at them every day.
cswl - Thank you for the card. I loved all the little mini-cards with notes on them on the inside, and the Patrick sticker on the envelope cracked me up.
u/wabisabi_sf - Thank you for the card. The black envelope was so swanky, and the wine dog post cards inside, these were amazing! They're all in my area so I can go visit them!
DoraDoodle - Thank for the card. I love dogs dressed up as people and the distinguished gentleman on the front of the "Best in Show" card was a delight.
KnightintheSky - Thank you for the card. Thank you also for acknowledging and appreciating the work I do for hamsters... you're right that little pets sometimes get overlooked, but not on my watch!
shamy52 - Thank you for the card. It's cool to know we're birthday buddies! I hope you had a good one, too!
TigerLady13 - Thank for you for the card. You really stickered it up good (and I loved that!) Thanks also for the post card... dog beaches are my favorite kind of beaches.
DianaPenPal - Thank you for the card. OH MY GODDD the superhero card complete with cape? This was SUCH a cool card! I don't know where you found it but it's amazing!

choffy13 - Thank you for the card. The hamster stickers are exquisite and will be joining the collection ASAP! I loved the wine-themed card and will definitely take you up on your offer to send one back.
Rura_Penthe924 - Thank you for the card. I love that it's local, and I am stealing your brilliant idea to print out a sticker with text to put on the card to make it easy to read and maximize postcard space.
IridiumViper - Thank you for the card. It's always fun to see someone get creative with washi tape, and I appreciate the well wishes!
ghostchild25 - Thank you for the card. It was both bright and spooky, which is absolutely my general aethetic. You also nailed it with the stickers!
birdiebennett - Thank you for the card. I appreciated the stickers and postcards you included. You have one of the best return labels I've seen so far, by the way!
ninajyang - Thank you for the card. The wine tags you included were so cool and elegant-looking. I've put them up on my cork board beside my sommelier schedule.
sea-shine2878 - Thank you for the card. They way you drew the confetti around the date and my name was a nice touch and I loved the way it vibed with the rest of the card. Very creative!
travel4me22 - Thank you for the card. Superhero-themed is awesome... and THEY MAKE SUPERHERO WASHI TAPE?! I love it!
OkayFlan - Thank you for the card. I appreciate the stickers, and I love how you always use multiple interesting stamps on your cards! My favorite was the LEATHERWORKER FOR INDEPENDENCE 13-cent stamp. I'm so keeping that one!
ezw_ - Thank you for the card. I'm glad my post request made you laugh and I thought including the Pokemon card was a nice touch. Those cards were definitely a major thing when I was a kid!
RitaAlbertson - Thank you for the card. I'm always amused by cards with non-card shapes, and your little cupcake was very sweet. (See what I did there? Hahaaa...)
Unknown sender - Thank you! You sent a postcard that says Happy Birthday with an astronaut stamp, and you drew a beautiful little cake on it. Unfortunately the post office stamped over your username and I cannot make it out. I'm sorry; please let me know if this is your card so I can give you credit. Unknown sender - Thank you! You sent a sparkly striped card that says "hi" and you drew a cute little Snoo inside. You signed it with a nickname but I'm not familiar enough with this subreddit to know precisely who you are! I'm sorry; please let me know if this is your card so I can give you credit. submitted by

2023.06.06 19:01 Ashbin Virginia Weekly COVID Report for June 6, 2023
WEEKLY COVID CASES STATEWIDE REPORT FOR JUNE 6, 2023 Note: all figures in this report are taken from VDH TOTAL NEW COVID CASES REPORTED WEEK (Sun-Sat) OF: 04/02-04/08: 1,843 (VDH corrected from 1,669, +174 cases) 04/09/04/15: 1,682 (VDH corrected from 1,465, +217 cases) 04/16-04/22: 1,389 (VDH corrected from 1,259, +130 cases) 04/23-04/29: 1,335 (VDH corrected from 1,153, +182 cases) 04/30-05/06: 1,406 (VDH corrected from 1,230, +176 cases) 05/07-05/13: 1,377 (VDH corrected from 1,217, +160 cases) 05/14-05/20: 1,174 (VDH corrected from 1,053, +121 cases) 05/21-05/27: 1,158 (VDH corrected from 957, +200 cases) 05/28-06/03: 1,048
Pre-correction, we saw an increase of +8.68% in the reported number of cases this past week over the previous one (Sun-Sat), 957 cases to 1,048. So this only amounted to +91 extra cases over the seven days. Post correction there was a decrease of -9.5%. This figure can be taken with a grain of salt as this week's case numbers will probably be "corrected" next week.
Note that the VDH summary page can mislead as it uses last weeks corrected numbers against this weeks uncorrected numbers. So it shows a reduction this week. Just a look at the 13-week graph shows this is incorrect.
REPORTED DEATHS PER WEEK Week of: 04/30-05/06: 1 05/07-05/13: 2 (VDH corrected from 1) 05/14-05/20: 3 (VDH corrected from 1) 05/21-05/27: 0 05/28-06/03: 1
Deaths remain low. At least for now, COVID is not the killer it was.
HOSPITALS Last week there were 119 COVID admissions, 29% higher than the previous weeks 94. This marks the first week of admission increase in four weeks, but really only amounts to 25 extra patients over seven days. The vast majority of patients are over 70 years of age.
Oddly, there was a
7-day average of 103 patients in a COVID bed, 3 percent lower than the previous week. I'm a bit unsure what to make of this stat. Possible faster discharging of patients? Less serious illness?
SIDE NOTES When numbers are low, it doesn't take much to make a large percentage shift.
LAYOUT First up is the total number of new Covid Cases for last week based on Sunday to Saturday. As the corrections VDH is putting in a week after the initial release makes following a trend impossible, I am computing off what the reported amount was last week before a correction (if any). I also show the post correction calculations (which are not really useful).
Reported deaths are next, which are based on Sunday to Saturday for the weeks listed.
Hospital information for the week is next.
Today's VDH main updated page for today is located here. You can see all the latest trends at the link above - most graphics are interactive SIDE NOTES The 13-week Case Graph has been uploaded.
I went back and updated the daily post to show the weekend case breakout.
EXPLANATION OF FIGURES ABOVE
Total New COVID Cases Reported Week (Sun-Sat) Of: cases reported for last week running Sunday to Saturday. Reported Deaths Per Week: Number of actual deaths in the week (Sunday-Saturday) as reported by VDH by dates listed.
Hospital information for last Sunday-Saturday.
