2023.06.02 13:22 Aggravatedmomoftwo Choosing family or my spouse

I 36F am married to 38M for roughly 15 years, for 8 of those years we’ve practically lived two separate lives because of his career choices. He’s an over the road truck driver who has moved us (my kids 15f, 13f and I) to different states where I have no support system or family to only see him every few months. Last year we moved back home where my family is. He ended up quitting his job because he “wanted to go local”. This lasted a total of three weeks before he ended up going to another state to stay with a friend and find work up there. He found a job that ended up being 5 days on and 2 days off. I never agreed to moving out of state yet here we are again moving once again.
Usually I’d shut my mouth and just go with it knowing that it’s just going to be me and my kids for the most part. But we moved back because my mom is deathly ill, she may have a year or two good years left before Parkinson’s and dementia fully take over. It’s been over 8 years since I’ve lived near my mom. When I tell my spouse this I’m told “well, you can fly down, you’re not missing much yet and can be there when she’s dying.” I went through this with my grandfather and yes, I got to see him the last 72 hours of life but I immediately had to leave and couldn’t be there for the funeral. To this day it eats me alive. The last time we broke up for a few months my brother died and I was able to spend three weeks there planning my brother’s funeral, packing his things, going to his celebration of life. I’d never gotten to do this if we weren’t broken up at that time.
While my marriage has had ups and downs this choice will end it. My brain tells me to leave but my heart says otherwise and it always comes back to my kids. I never wanted to separate them from their dad as I never was around mine growing up.

2023.06.02 13:21 miabacall Amazon Rules vs DSP Rules?

I’m a lil spooked. Just left my gig driving a cargo van for a DSP. For reference, I’m a 5’5” female driving in a city environment.
I was trained by an Amazon warehouse employee in a weeklong course w/ a few diff company’s DSP drivers that’d be operating out of the same warehouse.
We learned the importance of “3 points of contact” & “strange dogs” but the one they really drove home was “always use the e brake when parking”. I was taught it is Amazon policy: if my AZ Branded vehicle is not properly secured with its e-brake, rolls down a hill, & hits someone, it’s not just my DSP & Amazon that can be held reliable, but myself as a citizen with a drivers license. I get that, fine.
But then once I started my job with my DSP, the trainers told me that our company’s fleet of vehicles can be finicky. The owner himself said the the e-brakes are incredibly temperamental: for most of this fleets vans, engaging the e brake often lock up up the whole vehicles system. Every time we use the e remake it requires onsite mechanical maintenance to restart the vehicle & get back to its route (mayeb a 2 hour delay).
My question is , is it normal for y’all to be asked by your DSP management to lie on your vehicle inspections? My bosses know and we (the drivers) know that the e brakes are an issue, but we were told that reporting the problem would pull most vans out of the lineup due to Amazons safety requirements.
Also, I signed all my Amazon-branded training papers clearly stating I would abide by the company’s national safety guidelines (I.e. use the e brake): but if anythjng were to happen accident-wise do y’all think my DSP would stand me by me if if adhered to THEIR verbal off-the book orders to avoid the e-brake?
Kinda spooky by the other safety requirements I was asked to breach we well, but this is the most I pressing . ..thanks!!

Practical Experience and Skill Development

Job vacancies provide students with an opportunity to put their academic learning into practice. By working in a professional environment, students can gain practical experience, learn industry-specific skills, and develop a deeper understanding of their chosen field. This hands-on experience gives them a competitive edge and prepares them for future employment.

Financial Support

Many students face financial challenges while pursuing their education. Job vacancies offered by companies provide them with a means to support themselves financially. By working part-time or during breaks, students can earn money to cover their educational expenses, reduce the burden of student loans, and gain financial independence.

Potential Career Growth Opportunities

Companies that offer job vacancies to students often recognize their potential and provide avenues for career growth. Through internships and entry-level positions, students can gain exposure to different departments within an organization. This exposure helps them understand various job roles, discover their strengths, and explore potential career paths.

Company's Role in Offering Job Vacancies for Students

Companies have a significant responsibility in creating job opportunities for students. By actively engaging with educational institutions and partnering with them, companies can bridge the gap between academia and industry. This collaboration benefits both parties, as companies gain access to fresh talent, while students have the chance to apply their knowledge and skills in a practical setting.
Furthermore, companies benefit from hiring students due to their enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and adaptability. Students bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, which can contribute to the growth and success of the company. By offering job vacancies, companies invest in the future workforce and help shape the next generation of professionals.

How to Find and Apply for Company's Job Vacancies

Finding job vacancies requires proactive effort on the part of students. Networking plays a crucial role in discovering these opportunities. Attending career fairs, industry events, and professional networking platforms can connect students with potential employers. Additionally, leveraging online job portals and company websites can help students find suitable job vacancies.
When applying for job vacancies, students should tailor their applications to highlight their relevant skills and experiences. A well-crafted resume and a compelling cover letter can make a significant difference in standing out from other applicants. It is essential to showcase enthusiasm, passion, and a genuine interest in the company and the role being applied for.

Tips for Succeeding in Company Job Interviews

Securing an interview for a company job vacancy is an achievement in itself. To maximize the chances of success, students should invest time in interview preparation. Researching the company, its values, and its work culture is crucial. This knowledge helps students align their answers with the company's expectations and demonstrate their interest and commitment.
Practicing common interview questions and preparing thoughtful responses is also essential. By rehearsing, students can gain confidence in their abilities and improve their interview performance. Additionally, paying attention to professional behavior, dressing appropriately, and effectively communicating their strengths and experiences can leave a lasting impression on interviewers.

Skills and Qualities Companies Look for in Students

When hiring students, companies look beyond academic qualifications. They seek specific skills and qualities that can contribute to their success. Interpersonal skills, such as effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, are highly valued. Students who can adapt to new situations, demonstrate creativity, and showcase a willingness to learn are often preferred.
Moreover, companies appreciate students who display a growth mindset and a commitment to continuous learning. The ability to embrace challenges, take initiative, and acquire new skills is highly desirable. Students should focus on developing a well-rounded skill set that combines technical expertise with transferable skills, such as leadership and critical thinking.

Internships and Part-time Job Opportunities

In addition to traditional job vacancies, internships and part-time positions offer valuable opportunities for students. Internships provide students with immersive experiences in their chosen field, allowing them to apply their knowledge and gain industry-specific skills. These experiences can also lead to networking opportunities, mentorship, and potential full-time employment upon graduation.
Part-time jobs, on the other hand, offer flexibility and enable students to earn money while pursuing their studies. These jobs can be in various sectors, such as retail, hospitality, or customer service, and provide students with transferable skills, such as time management, multitasking, and customer interaction.

Balancing Work and Studies

While job vacancies offer numerous benefits, it is essential for students to maintain a healthy work-study balance. Balancing work commitments with academic responsibilities can be challenging but is crucial for overall well-being and success. Here are some tips to help students achieve this balance:
  1. Prioritize tasks and create a schedule to manage time effectively.
  2. Set realistic goals and break them down into manageable steps.
  3. Seek support from friends, family, or mentors when feeling overwhelmed.
  4. Practice self-care and allocate time for relaxation and leisure activities.
  5. Communicate with employers and professors to manage expectations and deadlines effectively.
By adopting these strategies, students can strike a balance between work and studies, ensuring their academic performance does not suffer while benefiting from job vacancies.

Conclusion

Job vacancies provided by companies are invaluable opportunities for students to gain practical experience, develop essential skills, and secure financial support. Companies have a significant role to play in offering these vacancies and investing in the future workforce. By actively seeking job opportunities, preparing for interviews, and showcasing their skills and qualities, students can maximize their chances of success. 2023.06.02 13:17 PC_query_man Acceptable to specify times when guests cannot check-in?

I'm putting my spare room up on AirBnb but there are certain time slots during the week I'm not available for in-person check-in.
So I was wondering if it's reasonable to ask guests to check-in around these dates/times? Alternatively I could block out the dates with the appointments but this would create awkward spaces in the calendar which may not be possible to fill.
So I was thinking either:
I don't have any local friends to help out, unfortunately. I could pay someone to hand over the keys but I would probably need to pay them at least £30/40 but since the room is max £40-50/night (= local price for similar room) it would eat into profits quiote a lot, especially if stays are short and timing-conflicts frequent. Moreover, it's risky to entrust a stranger with keys, and time-consuming to "vet" them.
A key box is very expensive and there's a real risk of dodgy people smashing it to get the keys. There has been some anti-social activity in this area - they've already smashed up the entry system. However, the neighbourhood is otherwise very safe with CCTV everywhere. Absolutely fine for tourists.
For context, please understand I'm not a "business" that can operate AirBnb rooms at scale and so overheads hit harder. I was made redundant last month with only 2 weeks' notice and need to cover bills for (hopefully) just a month or two until I can get a new job. I have very little savings to back me up as I was only on min wage. Therefore I have to be very careful with expenses. My appointments are regular medical and employability-related ones which can't be rescheduled, but I may also need to attend interviews here and there.
I think the original idea of AirBnb was to let out your spare room and experience local life, so hopefully my situation is compatible, though guests expectations may have changed nowadays. Might make more sense to short-term-let the room to someone.

2023.06.02 13:17 forwardslashroot Should I stay at my current position or join the new IT team?

I don't have a college degree, but I have a HS diploma. I work in IT as a senior network guy. I have been with my current role for a year now. I do not have issues with my colleagues, and I actually like it here. Also, my goal is to get a degree and some time-off/break/vacation.
The issue that I have is the folks at different organizations/programs. Lets call them company A. Company A has been trying to take over our IT operation despite the contract between my program and theirs, which is just cybersecurity, and they are not even good at it. Check the comments from this thread https://www.reddit.com/networking/comments/11kv5kh/need_an_ipam_with_a_bit_of_dcim_features/
The management on my side couldn't do anything about it due to our government folks think if our ideas/solutions are against the company A's plan, we are anti-companyA. We can not be anti-companyA. Company A has been the major headache for my team and users.
It is not a daily head butting with company A. It takes a couple of weeks of quiet time then it hits you. It is like getting hit by a bus.
Now, I have an opportunity that I think it will bring value to my career, and obviously, company A is not going to be there.
The PROs that I could think of if I were to stay at my current role are: - Continue/finish college (WGU) because it is too quiet here - My team is relax - I have enough PTO to take some time-off - My employer boss sees the value I bring to the team and the program - I have 4 years left with my contract
The CONs: - Company A - Company A will takeover soon. I just don't know when
The PROs at the new role. - Brings value to my career - No company A - The interview went really well. It so well that took them 3-4 hours to decide that I was the guy for the job - $20K pay increase - There is another network guy, so I am not running solo this time - There is a pretty good chance that the contract will get renewed for 5 years
The CONs are: - PTO starts from 0 again - PTO might turn negative because I have a trip in a couple of months - Might delay my school again - Maybe busier than my current role - The contract ends a year from now (see pros)
Would it be a good idea to jump to the new role or stay?

2023.06.02 13:16 UnknownCanadianGhost I was falsely accused of rape in 2016. Just want to get it off my chest.

How it happened.
I was 16 and my girlfriend was 15. We were both in high-school. For the sake of incrimination I’m going to use fake names. Her name was Lucy. I’m going to call her that as it’s the closest thing to Lucifer as she showed me that she was definitely possessed by it.
She grew up with her friends Karen and Meredith. Since kindergarten. I was diagnosed with ODD and ADHD at a very young age. I moved around a lot. I mean, a lot. Until I went to their school in 2014, I had been to 9 different schools in the surrounding area due to being bullied.
With that said, you can understand a bit more context. I was new to this school, before I went into highschool. I began to cut myself the first year of that school, and met a girl who had similar issues as me. Just a bad upbringing. We were similar in the sense we were both a little messed up. This one was Meredith. We talked for a very long time. Shy to eachother in person, but always texted every single night. Her best friend growing up was Lucy. Inseparable those 2. Later on down the line highschool began. I built the courage to ask her on a proper date. We went to the movies. A few months after that she started dating this wannabe gangster fellow. Wore all red from head to toe. It broke my heart she would do that, and I went to Lucy for advice. That same night Lucy kissed me. I realized I liked her back. Her and I started dating and it pissed Meredith off. She didn’t talk to me for months. Lucy and I were our first. We had sex almost every day, going out for lunch during break and going to my house. For about 6 months straight. Then she cheated on me. I caught her at the graveyard with another guy and confronted them. I said things like I would slit his throat and he got scared and ran off. Lucy said I was fucked in the head.
Soon after I messaged Meredith about it, as they were best friends. Meredith met up with me that night. Cheating on her boyfriend with me. I began dating Meredith after she dumped her boyfriend. Karen got transferred to our highschool about 5 months into mine and Meredith’s relationship. Meredith cheated on me with my old friend from the trailer park. I walked in on them one night. Smashed a bottle and told the guy I was going to bury him outside. Realized I didn’t want to go to jail, I put the bottle down and walked out and went home. Karen messaged me that night. Asked if I was okay. Saying no she asked to meet up with me. We met up and I showed how upset I was. She kissed me then. Probably out of pity. I asked her out about 3 weeks later as I was lonely and needed someone. She became friends with Meredith and Lucy which I found strange. Very strange. As a young kid I told her that I didn’t want her to hang around them anymore and she told me I can’t make her. Which I couldn’t, I just accepted it. They hung out a lot. Which made me suspicious. Soon after Karen began talking sexual to me. I did the same, being a teenager.
She said things like she wants to be tied up and left marks on her. She seduced me one night and asked for all of it. Verbally asked for it. The day after we had school. It was like any other day. I was in class on the computer talking to her through Facebook. The conversation was normal. Until it wasn’t. She warned me. Said “oh by the way, me and Lucy are charging you with rape” I laughed and said “lmao” and she said “I’m not kidding” panic set in. Not even an hour later police came to my classroom and escorted me to the principles office. There I saw through the glass both of them fake crying. I was handcuffed and treated like a terrorist locked in a room inside the school. I was asked questions without my rights being told to me or even a parent or guardian present.
I was charged with 3 counts of sexual assault. As Meredith sneakily did the same. They planned this on me.
I took it to trial. Court went on for 4 years. So long that they were going to charge me as an adult even though it supposedly happened when I was 15. I had a lot of evidence against them such as text receipts and the fact they tried to do this to another guy in which they redacted their statement without any repercussions
It got so bad that a female officer I suspect one that they went to, attempted to withhold my evidence in court and was found doing so. She didn’t lose her job but got demoted to traffic officer I was told by my lawyer. I was found innocent in 2020 but after it was done and over with, they went around my town and told everyone that I raped them. For 6 years I was assaulted by people throwing stuff at me by driving by, called a rapist by hundreds of people, threatened, my house was paintballed, my brothers truck had gotten his windows smashed out. And now I’m very mentally fucked up.
Reddit is lagging too bad so I can’t type any more. It’s taking a long time for my words to be written. In conclusion I just wanted to share my story. Get it off my chest as I have been living with this for a long time.

2023.06.02 13:12 rev_007 Japan U-23

Japan U-23
I have yet watched Ares and Orion, and this is my preferably Japan U-23 (from IE1 - Go Galaxy) .
Endo as GK is a no brainer. He has great presence and commando, and can defuse threat easily. Also, not scared to distribute the ball himself (even too far).
Kabeyama as main stopper is also no brainer even tho there are lot of great stopper in the franchise but no one can beat Kabeyama. The only thing bring him down is speed, so he cant distribute the ball to the front. But that is not his main job, his main job to clear any threat that come to him.
Fubuki Shirou as defender is good, he have good vision, can tackle that well, and he can dribble and distribute the ball. He is also one of the most versatile player in the franchise.
Kazeyama is literally the most versatile player in IE history, he can literally play anywhere (exc. GK) making him the GOAT of the franchise. He is fast, can defend, can go offense, can cross, and can score some banger. That is why i chose him as my right wing back.
Tsunami as full back is great, he got the height, strength, and stamina to contest enemy's winger. There is not lot of option on full back, so thats why i chose him.
Fudou as Box to Box Midfielder, he is rough and the first line of defense. He is also good at marking enemy forward making him my first choice (my other choice probably be Kusaka, Kirino, Kariya, or Hijikata).
I prefer Shindou as Playmaker rather than Kidou just because his pass, and cross are just that good. Also he is a good dribbler who can control midfield just like symphony in a piano.
Tenma as Right Midfielder is just no brainer, after Kazeyama the only one who is that good on the side is Tenma. He can intercept the ball, cross and also score some banger.
I chose Midorikawa just because my other option will be Matatagi and that man is too selfish to become Winger, he want the ball all to himself. And also he is fast, strong, and underrated.
Hiyama main position is no.10 (fight me). He can score, he can distrupt enemy defense, and he got that strength to contest aerial.
Gouenji is the epitome of Specialist, his main job will be striker who can score. Just that. But he is really good at it, no one can fight him (maybe Tsurugi).

2023.06.02 13:09 rusticgorilla Supreme Court ruling makes it even riskier for unions to strike

Housekeeping:
Eight Supreme Court justices issued a ruling yesterday that will allow companies to more easily sue unions for damages during a strike.

Background

The case, Glacier Northwest v. Teamsters, centers on a cement truck driver strike in Washington state. Glacier alleges that Teamsters Local Union No. 174 intentionally ordered a work stoppage after the trucks had been loaded with wet concrete, potentially wasting the product and risking damaging the rotating drums of the trucks.
According to Glacier, the goal was to “sabotage” the company:
In August 2017, the Union, which represents Glacier’s truck drivers, was engaged in collective bargaining negotiations with Glacier. Unhappy with the company’s response to its bargaining demands, the Union devised and executed a scheme to “intentionally sabotage” Glacier’s business operations and destroy its property. On the morning of August 11, Glacier had numerous concrete deliveries scheduled, with drivers starting work between 2 AM and 7 AM. Knowing this, the Union “coordinated with truck drivers to purposely time [a] strike when concrete was being batched and delivered” with the specific purpose “to cause destruction of the concrete.” At 7 AM, once “Union representatives knew there was a substantial volume of batched concrete in Glaciers barrels, hoppers, and ready-mix trucks, they called for a work stoppage.” A Union agent made a throat-slashing gesture to signal a “sudden cessation of work.”
Non-union employees were dispatched to clean the trucks, preventing damage. However, the mixed concrete had to be destroyed.
The Teamsters contended that the strike could only be called once all drivers had arrived for work. With staggered start times, this resulted in a 7 am strike time, after some concrete loads were already mixed and in trucks from earlier shifts.
On the day the strike began, 43 drivers were scheduled to work. The drivers arrived at staggered start times running from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. Local 174 called the strike at 7 a.m., when all of the scheduled drivers had arrived for work…When the strike began, some trucks were at Glacier’s yard waiting to be loaded, some were returning to the yard to be reflled and some were out with loads of concrete to be delivered. Sixteen of the striking drivers returned trucks containing undelivered concrete to Glacier’s yard. These drivers left their trucks running so that Glacier could dispose of the concrete as the Company saw fit.
Glacier sued the Teamsters in Washington state court for intentionally destroying its property. In doing so, the company indirectly challenged existing Supreme Court precedent set in 1959’s
San Diego Building Trades Council v. Garmon, which held that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has jurisdiction over whether a labor union’s activity is protected by law.
It is not for us to decide whether the National Labor Relations Board would have, or should have, decided these questions in the same manner. When an activity is arguably subject to § 7 [which includes strikes] or § 8 [unfair labor practice] of the Act, the States as well as the federal courts must defer to the exclusive competence of the National Labor Relations Board if the danger of state interference with national policy is to be averted…If the Board decides, subject to appropriate federal judicial review, that conduct is protected by § 7, or prohibited by § 8, then the matter is at an end, and the States are ousted of all jurisdiction. Or, the Board may decide that an activity is neither protected nor prohibited, and thereby raise the question whether such activity may be regulated by the States.
Glacier should have brought its complaint to the NLRB, which would have decided whether this particular strike violated the law. Instead, Glacier brought the case to the Washington state courts, lost, and ultimately appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The ruling

Justice Amy Coney Barrett, writing for the eight-justice majority, ruled against the Teamsters union in finding that an employer may pursue a lawsuit against its workers’ union before the NLRB determines whether a particular strike is protected by federal law.
Barrett reaches this conclusion by determining that the truck drivers’ failure to strike before the mixing of concrete violated the National Labor Relations Act’s (NLRA) “reasonable precautions” clause — a strike is not a protected activity if workers fail to take reasonable precautions to avoid foreseeable, imminent damage to the employer's property, such as the building, equipment or products.
The Board has long taken the position—which both the Union and Glacier accept—that the NLRA does not shield strikers who fail to take “reasonable precautions” to protect their employer’s property from foreseeable, aggravated, and imminent danger due to the sudden cessation of work. Given this undisputed limitation on the right to strike, we proceed to consider whether the Union has demonstrated that the statute arguably protects the drivers’ conduct. Davis, 476 U. S., at 395. We conclude that it has not. The drivers engaged in a sudden cessation of work that put Glacier’s property in foreseeable and imminent danger…The Union failed to “take reasonable precautions to protect” against this foreseeable and imminent danger.
With this ruling, the Supreme Court partly reverses Garmon. Employers will now be allowed to sue unions in state court before the NLRB completes its review of the case. As Ian Millhiser explains in Vox, the outcome (1) is costly for unions and (2) creates a more uncertain atmosphere for strikes:
Glacier Northwest is still a significant loss for unions, in large part because it does not draw clear lines indicating when Garmon still applies and when it does not. Suppose, for example, that a single angry worker picks up a piece of their employer’s equipment and smashes it at the beginning of a work stoppage. Does this one worker’s wildcat action render the entire union vulnerable to litigation?
Similarly, imagine a company much like Glacier Northwest, except that this company is so busy that it always has at least one truck full of wet concrete being delivered to a client. At what point are this union’s workers allowed to strike? And, if they do strike, what are the precise precautions the union must take in order to protect the employer’s trucks?
Questions like these will need to be decided in future litigation — and the mere existence of this litigation will only undermine Garmon even more. Striking unions will now potentially have to litigate one case in the NLRB while simultaneously litigating a second case whose purpose is to determine whether their employer is allowed to sue them in state court.
That will make it much easier for well-moneyed employers to grind down unions with legal fees.
Justices Roberts, Sotomayor, Kagan, and Kavanaugh joined Barrett’s opinion. Justices Thomas, Gorsuch, and Alito concurred in judgment, but wrote or joined separate opinions advocating for the Supreme Court to overturn Garmon altogether. Justice Thomas wrote:
The parties here have not asked us to reconsider Garmon, nor is it necessary to do so to resolve this case. Nonetheless, in an appropriate case, we should carefully reexamine whether the law supports Garmon’s “unusual” preemption regime. In doing so, I would bear in mind that any proper pre-emption inquiry must focus on the NLRA’s text and ask whether federal law and state law “are in logical contradiction,” such that it is impossible to comply with both.

The dissent

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the lone dissenting justice, wrote in defense of Supreme Court precedent, the National Labor Relations Act, and the right to strike:
The right to strike is fundamental to American labor law. Congress enshrined that right in the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and simultaneously established the National Labor Relations Board to adjudicate disputes that arise between workers and management. That decision reflected Congress’s judgment that an agency with specialized expertise should develop and enforce national labor law in a uniform manner, through case-by-case adjudication. For its part, this Court has scrupulously guarded the Board’s authority for more than half a century. See San Diego Building Trades Council v. Garmon, 359 U. S. 236 (1959). Under Garmon, and as relevant here, a court presented with a tort suit based on strike conduct generally must pause proceedings and permit the Board to determine in the first instance whether the union’s conduct is lawful if the conduct at issue is even “arguably” protected by the NLRA.
Today, the Court falters. As the majority acknowledges, the Board’s General Counsel has filed a complaint with the Board after a thorough factual investigation, and that complaint alleges that the NLRA protects the strike conduct at the center of this state-court tort suit. The logical implication of a General Counsel complaint under Garmon is that the union’s conduct is at least arguably protected by the NLRA. Consequently, where (as here) there is a General Counsel complaint pending before the Board, courts—including this Court—should suspend their examination. Garmon makes clear that we have no business delving into this particular labor dispute at this time.
But instead of modestly standing down, the majority eagerly inserts itself into this conflict, proceeding to opine on the propriety of the union’s strike activity based on the facts alleged in the employer’s state-court complaint. As part of this mistaken expedition, the majority tries its own hand at applying the Board’s decisions to a relatively novel scenario that poses difficult line-drawing questions—fact-sensitive issues that Congress plainly intended for the Board to address after an investigation.
The court incorrectly placed the onus of protecting Glacier’s property on the workers and the union, Jackson continued:
To the extent that the majority’s conclusion rests on the alleged fact that “by reporting for duty and pretending as if they would deliver the concrete, the drivers prompted the creation of the perishable product” that “put Glacier’s trucks in harm’s way,” I see nothing aggravated or even untoward about that conduct. Glacier is a concrete delivery company whose drivers are responsible for delivering wet concrete, so it is unremarkable that the drivers struck at a time when there was concrete in the trucks. While selling perishable products may be risky business, the perishable nature of Glacier’s concrete did not impose some obligation on the drivers to strike in the middle of the night or before the next day’s jobs had started. To the contrary, it was entirely lawful for the drivers to start their workday per usual, and for the Union to time the strike to put “maximum pressure on the employer at minimum economic cost to the union.”
Nor was the onus of protecting Glacier’s economic interests if a strike was called in the middle of the day on the drivers—it was, instead, on Glacier, which could have taken any number of prophylactic, mitigating measures. What Glacier seeks to do here is to shift the duty of protecting an employer’s property from damage or loss incident to a strike onto the striking workers, beyond what the Board has already permitted via the reasonable-precautions principle. In my view, doing that places a significant burden on the employees’ exercise of their statutory right to strike, unjustifiably undermining Congress’s intent. Workers are not indentured servants, bound to continue laboring until anyplanned work stoppage would be as painless as possible for their master. They are employees whose collective and peaceful decision to withhold their labor is protected by the NLRA even if economic injury results.

2023.06.02 13:06 Proof-Ask-319 I despise my boss. It's starting to take a toll on my health. Quit or wait?

So, I have been working for this company for almost 3 years. The situation has been complicated from the very beginning.
A multi-national group "saved" a really small firm that was going to shut down (wasn't making any money, old employees, even older structures, a strong need of investments to update and upgrade) because they needed its service. They placed as the owner a figurehead that was a close friend of a top manager from the multinational itself.Sadly, this top manager fell ill shortly after interviewing me for a PM role and passed away 4 months after I started working there. This happened in 2020, during COVID. Relevant: the firm is based in Italy, while the multinational seat is in Germany and both the manager and his figurehead friend are German. The figurehead doesn't speak Italian or English nor he knows Italian norm on safety, taxation, entrepreneurial responsibility etc. He hasn't done any effort in the past 4 years to become informed on these subjects.
The multinational never named someone from them who had to be responsible for the development of the firm upon the first top manager's death (when I arrived the figurehead didn't even pay suppliers, with suppliers cutting off deliveries, because he didn't know how to use the banking app) and I tried my best to follow through with the plan that the deceased manager left behind, but as the figurehead didn't want to spend its own money for investments the firm remained kind of stuck. Now the multinational is starting to understand that this figurehead can't be trusted and realized he has no idea what he is doing. They called me and told me their plan is to sweep him aside and name someone reliable, but haven't given me a date yet. They said "it will happen soon", but as legally he is the only owner of the firm I don't know how they plan to do it.
My issue is that while they decide what to do I have to undergo weekly remote meetings during which I am harassed by the figurehead who asks me to do things that would be detrimental to the firm (even as far as breaking the law). I suppose he will also come personally in the upcoming two weeks.. I am refusing to do what can't be legally done, which is obviously pissing him off. The idea of seeing him in person is now almost making me having a panic attack, due to the fact that he can be verbally abusive.
He is also pissed because I am not following through with other ideas of his because I simply don't have the time to do it. I have been operatively running the firm for the past 3 years, coordinating everything apart from production planning. I handle administration-safety-sales&business development-quality management-purchases. I have been feeling like I spend my working life handling emergencies, while having an idiot harassing me because the firm isn't generating enough money for him to get. When I told him I don't have the time to revise all our quality processes and change their format in order to upload them to his database he said that if I don't find the time to do what he wants he will shut the firm down for one or two weeks until I am done, forcing holidays on all other employees. What should I do? Wait, clench my teeth and hope finally he gets wiped off or tell him I have +2 months of holidays I never got to make and look for another job while seeing the firm collapse under his utter stupidity?

Hello everyone!
The operations I have had are below.
micro-discectomy surgery Left and Right shoulder arthroscopy
Mental health meds
Currently taking ADHD meds (Elvanse) and an Anti-depressant (sertraline).
I am really thinking about getting in touch with a company now to get prescribed MC but the only thing is I do not want it to affect my concentration because shortly I will have a very technical job in engineering and can not get a criminal record due to drugs or loose my driving license.
Is anyone else in the same boat with this?

Highest Mileage Car – The Most Interesting and Impressive Models

https://preview.redd.it/nwi170in1l3b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5ad22a28997ec574520227015201ed494138c61
If we look at the odometer of the highest mileage car of all time, we’ll be astonished, to say the least. Only one vehicle managed to break the records, yet other cars are also quite impressive. Their mileage exceeds what we perceive as normal substantially. These days, we frown upon the cars that have more than 200,000 miles on the clock. But for top mileage car and its counterparts, this number was simply an insignificant part of the journey.
These vehicles drove across the US, collecting mileage without flinching an eye. Is mileage as important as we believed? We’ll figure that out below.

WHICH ONE IS THE HIGHEST MILEAGE CAR IN THE WORLD?

The most mileage car that reached all-time highest mileage is the 1966 Volvo P1800. The last reported mileage was 3.04 million miles, which is really hard to process. An average vehicle will last around 300,000 miles if we’re lucky. Somehow, the owner of the Volvo P1800, Irving Gordon managed to maintain the car for a whopping 3.04 million miles.
Not surprisingly, the 1966 Volvo P1800 and its owner hold the Guinness World Record. According to Irving, the secret to making the car last so long is regular maintenance. He changed oil and transmission fluid frequently to enhance the lifespan of the vehicle.
Truth be told, P1800 isn’t an ordinary vehicle either. Volvo created a real beast with this one. It was designed for long road trips and that’s exactly what Irving used it for. In other words, the combination of the caring owner and the characteristics of the car itself made it possible to cover 3 million miles without any trouble.
After hearing about P1800, I’m sure you’ll start believing us next time we emphasize the importance of regular maintenance.

7 BEST HIGH MILEAGE CARS

https://preview.redd.it/f1ik2n3p1l3b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59f3523255f53209186e76ddcf439ecfc1417e35
Even though no one managed to break the record set by Irving and Volvo P1800, other cars also exceeded everyone’s expectations. Below, you’ll find the list of the best high mileage cars that crossed the 1 million margin with ease.

1976 Mercedes 240D

Even though the 1976 Mercedes 240D didn’t manage to beat the longest-range Volvo P1800, it came quite close. The owner of the 240D was a taxi driver who used the vehicle both for personal and business purposes. He hit 2.85 million miles in 2004. That’s when Mercedes recognized it as their longest-lived car and saved a special place for it in their museum. In return, the owner of the 240D received a brand-new C-Class. Sounds fair, doesn’t it?

1979 Volvo 245 GL

Yes, we have yet another Volvo on this list. This time it’s their 1979 245GL. Even though it doesn’t have a special story attached to it, it’s still quite famous. With its durable components and indestructible design, 245 GL easily made it to 1.63 million miles. The company that owned this vehicle claims that they didn’t do anything special apart from following regular maintenance schedules. Maybe purchasing an old Volvo isn’t that bad of an idea after all.

1963 Plymouth Fury

Next, we have 1963 Plymouth Fury with 1.62 million miles. Unlike other vehicles on this list, the Fury was the least fortunate out of all. It would surely beat the Guinness World Record in 1999, but it was hit by a truck. The Fury didn’t survive and failed to break the record.

1963 Volkswagen Beetle

We wouldn’t necessarily expect a Volkswagen Beetle to be a reliable top mileage car. Yet it surprised us in the best way possible. The 1963 release of this model lasted for 1.61 million miles. However, the owner didn’t achieve this result with the original engine. In fact, he had to go through 7 motor swaps to make the vehicle last. If you’re not sure whether the engine replacement is worth the money or not, take a closer look at the Volkswagen Beetle.

1983 Lincoln Town Car

Another remarkable model on this list is the 1983 Lincoln Town Car. This fella traveled 1.3 million miles throughout its life. The owner claims that they didn’t have to do any major repairs. We don’t know if that’s true or not, but we know that they really loved driving.

1991 Chevrolet C1500

1991 Chevrolet C1500 is relatively new compared to other models, yet its owner still managed to reach around 1.29 million miles. He drove around 200 miles every day to deliver seafood. Such a long commute is the main reason why his C1500 managed to cross the million-mile mark.

1966 Mercedes 250SE

Finally, 1966 Mercedes 250SE accumulated 1.28 million miles throughout its life. It’s quite different from the newer Mercedes models that break down quite easily. However, even the 250SE had to go through major repairs to cross the million-mile mark.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF OWNING MOST MILEAGE CAR?

Owning the best mileage car in world is beneficial as it makes you famous, stays by your side for a long time, and turns driving into a fun and enjoyable journey.

It makes you and your vehicle famous

Crossing even a 500,000-mile margin is a great achievement these days. Imagine managing to rack up over 1 million miles! As soon as you exceed the life expectancy of the vehicle, you’ll become a cool guy among your friends. But as you achieve unimaginable numbers, you’ll surely become famous. Unfortunately, you might have a hard time achieving those results with newer releases.

A top mileage car is a life-long companion

A car with the highest mileage is a life-long companion as it lasts for decades. Sure, you’ll have to maintain it religiously, however, your investments will pay off. But if you prefer changing cars frequently, this might even be a drawback.

It makes driving challenging and interesting

If you’re someone who is always looking for challenges, then turning your car into the highest mileage model could be an interesting thing for you. Why own an ordinary car when you can have one of the most famous models?

WHAT ARE THE DRAWBACKS OF HAVING A HIGH-MILEAGE VEHICLE?

Alternatively, owning a high-mileage vehicle can have multiple drawbacks, including the risks of breaking down, difficulties connected with reselling, and expenses.

You don’t know when it’s going to break down

The most mileage car ever recorded will be quite old – you won’t be able to rack up 1 million miles on a vehicle that was released in 2020 or 2021. Therefore, you won’t be able to predict when something will break down. Unpredictability is probably one of the major drawbacks of the highest mileage vehicles.

You might have a hard time selling it

According to Forbes, the sales of high-mileage cars have increased during the last year. However, it still doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to sell the highest mileage vehicle easily. Plus, the famous cars that made history are already in the museums. Therefore, beating existing records and making a name is already a challenging task. Reselling such a vehicle is even more difficult.

It can be quite expensive to maintain

As we’ve seen above, the best mileage car in world made it so long because the owner maintained it religiously. Even though regular maintenance is crucial one way or another, such cars require even more attention. If you skip changing the oil or neglect the signs of damage, you won’t be able to keep the car for so long.

HOW DO PEOPLE MANIPULATE MILEAGE?

As a rule, people manipulate mileage with the help of various tools. Even though we’re amazed by the highest mileage models, people are still reluctant to purchase cars with high mileage. Trends might be changing, yet we can blame that entirely on Covid-19. The chances are things will be back to normal in a year or two. Consequently, people still manipulate mileage to increase sales.
Mileage correction tools and mileage blocker devices are the main units they use. The former enables you to change mileage entirely, while the latter stops recording additional km. These two seem equally effective, yet things are quite different in reality.
To be more precise, the mileage blocker is more effective as it doesn’t leave any trace. Its performance is impossible to detect even with a diagnostic tester. It’s an ethical tool that manufacturers created for testing purposes. Conversely, the effects of the odometer correction tools are quite easy to discover.
You should remember that odometer clocking is an unethical business. It’s not the worst thing in the world if you have legit reasons, however, it can be illegal in certain states or countries.

HOW CAN YOU USE THE MILEAGE BLOCKER WITH THE BEST MILEAGE CAR IN WORLD?

You can use the mileage blocker to test the performance of the best high mileage cars. Since these fellas require a lot of attention, we need to be extremely cautious with them. Buying a tool such as a kilometer stopper can be a great solution.
It will help you check the performance of the engine or other components in a controlled environment. But it’s important to find a model that actually delivers desired results. Finding a high mileage blocker for sale is essential for safe and effective operation.

FINAL TAKEAWAY

It’s interesting to explore the highest mileage car and the models that came close to its records. Not only are they impressive, but they also show us a different perspective when it comes to mileage. However, it doesn’t mean that odometer figures aren’t important. Even the owners of the highest mileage vehicles admit the importance of regular maintenance and repairs. Thus, mileage manipulation still lingers on the automotive market.

The Bottom Line

The latest legal fight concerning capital interests and workers in the United States has resulted in the US Supreme court overturning lower courts' decisions to dismiss a case of Glacier - a concrete company - suing the workers' union for destruction of property after negotiations broke down and a strike was called.
https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/supreme-court-rules-union-labor-dispute-involving-truck-99761361
I would like to briefly mention that I like making posts about court cases, legislation, and legal proceedings because that is where the real nuts and bolts of capitalism are often found. It is precisely in the government's protection of property rights and claims to ownership that we find the framing and brickwork of capitalism. If that very idea is foreign-sounding to you, don't worry, I'll make a post about just that concept some time in the future.

Some Basic Facts

In 2017, Glacier Northwest and the local Teamsters Union for the truck drivers failed to negotiate a renewed contract, triggering a workers' strike. That morning, 16 of the 85 striking drivers had already filled trucks with wet concrete. The trucks were returned to Glacier's facilities with the drums rolling so as not to destroy the trucks and potentially allow any managers etc to save the concrete. (Note here that many of the major media corporations leave out details about the manner and conditions in which the drivers left the trucks and concrete.)
Glacier tried suing the union for destruction of its property, and lower courts had been dismissing the case following an earlier 1959 decision that said state law generally doesn't apply to cases like this, and therefore the National Labor Review Board has jurisdiction over the case.
The Supreme Court's decision simply overturns lower courts' decisions to dismiss the case at this point, which means the case will go on, the desired outcome at this point for Glacier Northwest.
Importantly, note that the drivers not only returned their trucks to the facility and left the drums rolling, at least some of them notified their managers of the condition of the trucks and managers and non-striking workers managed to remove the concrete before the trucks were damaged, so they are suing over the lost concrete. Importantly, Glacier had issued letters of reprimand to the drivers, but rescinded some after the Union's lawyer pointed out that they had notified management of the condition of the trucks just at the time of the strike.

A Brief History of Violence and Destruction in Labor Movements

There's the Great Railroad Strike of 1877, during which militias were called to try to force movement of the rolling stock. Several places saw fatal clashes between these groups, though notably the militias generally killed more workers and workers generally injured some militiamen and destroyed some trains.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Railroad_Strike_of_1877
The Burlington Railroad Strike of 1888, which has a plethora of deaths and actors from the Pinkertons to deputies as well as a court injunction which effectively ended the strike by forcing workers of other railroads to operate as scabs.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burlington_railroad_strike_of_1888
July Revolt of 1927 in Vienna where rightwing milita groups fired into a crowd of socialist party ("democratic socialists") members, where two of the party members died. The 3 militia members were acquitted of the killing charges leading to widespread strikes and more violence.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/July_Revolt_of_1927
Rolling Stone has a surprisingly concise list of 9 great examples of destruction of property in protests, starting with: The Boston Tea Party.
https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/ferguson-protest-george-floyd-minneapolis-nine-historical-property-destruction-175763/
The Battle of Blair Mountain, the largest workers' revolt in US history, began with the first family being evicted from the company town home in which they lived while it was raining and the police threw their belongs out into the rain.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Blair_Mountain
The fact of the matter is that labor movements are wrapped up in fundamental disputes about the control over capital and as such are intrinsically violent and destructive.

The question is not whether or not it would be best to avoid violence and destruction; the question is why these conflicts repeatedly get framed as stemming from greed, selfishness, and immoral actions of low-wage workers and almost never as the greed and selfishness and stubbornness in negotiations by capitalists.

Back to the concrete trucks.
I have seen (and no doubt will see some of you) say that the workers shouldn't have begun their strike after loading up the trucks. IIRC, Glacier's lawyer themself suggests that the workers intentionally timed their strike to be a burden on the company.
Yea, well, that is kind of the fucking point. Strikes and protests are intended to be inconvenient for the people who are not listening. As MLK said, "*A riot is the language of the unheard." The fact that the trucks were left rolling and that management was even notified at all of the condition of the trucks and concrete says that these workers actually kind of gave a shit about the hardship intrinsic in a strike, and the fact that managers and any remaining non-striking workers struggled to save the trucks and lost some concrete is entirely the point of a strike: to remind the owners of capital that it is the workers who make shit happen day in and day out.
The decision by this court is one of a long history of governments intervening on behalf of private capital and the wealthy elite members of society against the interest of a lower class of wage laborers.
I'll leave you with the one dissenter's words:
“Workers are not indentured servants, bound to continue laboring until any planned work stoppage would be as painless as possible for their master. They are employees whose collective and peaceful decision to withhold their labor is protected by the NLRA even if economic injury results.” — U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson
