Child I, event #3

Nicholas Johnson KC, for the prosecution, continues to cross-examine Letby in the case of Child I. He moves on to the third incident, on October 14, 2015.
Mr Johnson says Letby does not refer to this incident in her statement. Letby, in her evidence, said she did not recall this night.
Letby rules out staffing levels, medical incompetence or staffing mistakes as a contributory factor in the collapse of Child I for this incident.

The staffing rota for October 13-14, 2015 is shown to the court, with Letby in room 1 as the designated nurse for Child I. Joanne Williams is the designated nurse for two other babies in room 1 that night.
Letby is asked to look at her nursing notes for that night. Mr Johnson says Child I was tolerating handling and 'tone appears improved', according to Letby's notes.
The notes add: 'At 0500 abdomen noted to be more distended and firmer in appearance with area of discolouration spreading on right-hand side, veins more prominent. Oxygen requirement began to increase, colour became pale...gradually requiring 100% oxygen...blood gases poor as charted. Clear air entry, slightly reduced on left, chest movement reduced...continued to decline. Reintubated at approx 0700 - initially responded well. Abdomen firm and sitended. Overall colour pale. Xrays carried out...resuscitation commenced as documented...night and day staff members present'
Letby says she cannot recall the discolouration now. She does not recall it moved, but it was spreading by getting larger.
NJ: "Where did you get the time of 5 o'clock from?"
LL: "I don't know. I don't know if it's from paper charts or memory."
Mr Johnson says if Letby had seen this, she would have escalated it to a doctor.
LL: "I can't comment on what time the doctor did come."

At 5am, Letby recorded that Child I's "abdomen was noted to be more distended" with an "area of discolouration" that was "spreading" and "veins more prominent".
Resuscitation on the infant was commenced at this time.
Mr Johnson asks Letby about this incident.
"I can't comment because I don't remember it now," she tells the court.
"Don't or won't?" Mr Johnson asks.
"Don't," says Letby.

Mr Johnson says almost 24 hours earlier, Child I was found "almost dead", and then this incident happened. He asks what Letby would have done.
LL: "I would have escalated it to someone, senior like a doctor."
Mr Johnson shows the doctor's note, which mentions: "Abdomen distended and mottled".
LL: "I can't say specifically what time I asked him to come, the note says he came at 5.55am".

Letby says "squeaky" air entry is not an emergency.
"I can't say now what time I called the doctors or who I escalated it to," Letby says.
"'Asked to see patient' is not very urgent," Mr Johnson says, referring to her notes.
Letby says there is no other way to call a doctor, other than an emergency call which she didn't think was warranted.

Mr Johnson says this would have been an emergency for Child I.
LL: "I don't believe it was an emergency, I believe it showed a decline."
NJ: "You sabotaged [Child I] at about 6 o'clock, didn't you?"
LL: "No."

A prescription chart shows Dr Matthew Neame prescribed morphine sulphate for Child I, and the infusion was commenced at 5.50am.
A fluid chart shows '0530 abdo distended++' in Letby's writing.
Letby says by 6am, the oxygen requirement had gone up to 100% for Child I, from 60% at 5am.
Letby had written 'squeaky' for the oxygen level at 5am. Letby tells the court this meant the air entry for Child I was not clear.
Letby says squeaky air entry is not an emergency.
Mr Johnson says there is also expanding discolouration and a distended abdomen.
Letby denies copying the word 'squeaky' for the 5am oxygen column from Dr Neame's 5.55am note. Letby: "I disagree."
Letby says she recalls Dr Neame saying the mottling was unusual; she cannot recall the mottling specifically.
A report showed Child I's gaseous distention of the bowel had increased on October 14 since the previous x-ray at October 13. Child I had been on a ventilator and nil by mouth.
Letby denies injecting air into Child I.
NJ: "You had inflated [Child I] with air, hadn't you?"
LL: "No."
At 7am, Child I had a significant desaturation.
Letby's note: 'Reintubated at approx 0700 - initially responded well. Abdomen firm and distended. Overall colour pale. Xrays carried out.'
NJ: "That is because you were sabotaging her, isn't it?"
LL: "No."
Letby says she does not remember the 7am desaturation "with any clear detail".

Child I, event 4 (fatal collapse)

Mr Johnson moves to the final event for Child I, when she died on October 23.
Prior to that, Child I had been moved to Arrowe Park Hospital before returning to the Countess of Chester Hospital's neonatal unit.
Mr Johnson shows Letby observation charts for Child I from the previous day. Letby accepts Child I's observations were stable, save for one slightly raised respiration rate reading.
She agrees Child I was self-ventilating in air at this point. She accepts Child I's abdomen was, the previous day, soft and non-distended.
NJ: "Would you agree that despite three life-threatening events in the previous three weeks, [Child I] appeared to be in a stable condition?"
LL: "Yes."

For the night of October 22-23, Lucy Letby is a designated nurse for a baby in nursery room 2 and one in room 3. Ashleigh Hudson is the designated nurse for Child I in room 1 and one other baby.
Mr Johnson tells the court the baby in room 2 went to a hospital in Stoke during that night shift.
Letby says there were staffing issues, which were "not ideal", which were a contributory factor in the treatment of Child I following the collapse, in that a doctor had to be called away during the event.
Letby: "Considering what [Child I] had been through, she was a poorly baby, the doctors were not with her at all times...once she deteriorated."
Letby adds she believed Ashleigh Hudson was capable of looking after Child I, for Child I's nursing needs at this stage.

The neonatal schedule for that night is shown to the court.

Legit it makes perfect sense not to eat animals, there is sound moral reasoning behind it etc etc, totally valid, the most valid thing, but the idea that you would show up at someone’s house and if they offered you meat you wouldn’t take it is just bizarre, even a religious maniac in the 3rd century, if they travelled to a foreign country and were offered food, however much that food offended their beliefs, they would eat it, based on the fact that hospitality, welcoming a person into your version of the human community, is sacred, is an absolute moral condition of any worthwhile form of human life, and this is basic fact which has been understood universally since the dawn of time. Not only refusing to eat what you are offered but making an implicit moral judgement of the person offering it to you, despite accepting their hospitality in general, is making a conscious decision to dissolve the fabric of human sociality. Like, they killed it, it’s their fucking sin – if you don’t eat it, it means they sinned for nothing, it means you are mocking their sin.
I don’t know, it’s just utterly maniacal. If it were not for the possibility of absolute hospitality, there would be no point in being alive, so in a sense anyone who is vegan is actually EATING ME, they are eating my life, my hope, they are consuming it, they are chewing it slowly and looking at me in the face with mocking eyes, they have come to my house to feast on my only source of hope while sitting right in front me. The only thing worse than cannibalism is cannibalism of the soul, the soul which can only rest in the possibility of absolute human hospitality, a possibility which vegans have turned into a form of personal moral nutrition, it’s what keeps them going, they live on the by-products of the death of human hope, a death which they enact with ostensible pleasure. So yeah not cool bro

For some background, my (33M) wife (31F) of 12 years and I have always had a very strong marriage. We have 2 kids (7M, and 2F) and I always thought that we had a happy life. 2 years ago I accepted a new position at my workplace that comes with more pay, but also much more hours. There is significant pressure in this position to hit numbers and is a job that can be considered fairly high-stress. This stress is likely something that I have brought home on several occasions, and while she never deserved it, my wife has no doubt been impacted by it.
My wife works at a hospital pharmacy compounding medications as a pharmacy technician. She works 4 10-hour shifts and is sometimes on call on the weekends. Around January I noticed her being on her phone more, and she would keep her phone close to her chest and would never leave it laying around like she used to. I asked her about this, told her I felt like the worst was going on and she reassured me and apologized for how it made me feel. This was enough to curb my suspicions for a while. The next few months became more and more contentious at home as she continued being cagey with her phone, and stopped wearing her wedding ring. I always respected her privacy and never checked the phone. I started to withdraw and began playing more video games with my son as it is one of the only ways we bond throughout the cold winter months.
One Sunday she told me she was going shopping at a few places and that she would be back soon. She was gone nearly 7 hours and came home with stuff from one retailer. I looked at the bank account and it was about $150 worth of groceries from one retailer which didn't seem like it would take that long to get. I checked her Google location history on her phone and saw that she was parked in a parking lot next to a park for nearly 6 hours. I asked her 3 times if she went to the park or somewhere else and all 3 times she lied, until I showed her the Google location history and she finally admitted to going. Her excuse was that she needed a break from me and my son and that she was crying and listening to music the entire time. The next day she turned off Google location tracking because it made her 'feel uncomfortable'. At this point I am almost certain something is going on and I can't get her to communicate with me.
During this period our physical intimacy never stopped. It got more frequent, and she was willing to try more things with me. She has now lost about 40 pounds, listens to new types of music, has gotten medical procedures done to tighten her skin, has been purchasing new bras and underwear, and has completely disconnected from me. Her parents visited in April and they had a talk and now she wants a divorce. She never asked for a divorce or requested a split but was receptive to me asking if that's what she wanted. She says that this last winter has been really bad for her and that I played too many video games and emotionally neglected her. This is something I feel is fair but I was only trying to bond with our son as he is getting older and won't always want to do this. I don't feel like this is an issue we couldn't get passed unless there is something else pulling her away. I have since quit playing video games altogether as it's hard to want to continue to do a behavior you feel may have significantly contributed to the downfall of your marriage.
We had a period for about 6 weeks where we were 'working' on things but it seemed completely one-sided. It seemed mostly with me doing anything I possibly could to fix our issues and she wouldn't even be willing to initiate a hug or any other type of physical or emotional intimacy. I ended up getting so frustrated that I decided to call things off. I pulled the majority of my check and last bonus from our shared checking and opened my separate account to handle my finances.
I know my marriage is done and there is now no possible way to repair it. But when I tell her I know that something is going on, that all the signs are there, and I would have to be stupid not to see it she completely denies anything. She is so consistent with her denial that I start to wonder if maybe I am just being paranoid, or that I might be losing my sanity. Last night when I told her that I want 50/50 custody of the children (I spend more time with them anyway) she completely flipped. I don't know if she is hoping to get more child support out of me or just assumed she would get majority custody. My lawyer has assured me that 50/50 will be the most likely scenario. I know I contributed to the failure of my marriage in many ways. But it seems like she is the one that wants to leave, and that something else is compelling her to do so.

This needs context. I apologize for the length:
I (30,f/nb) have known one of my roommates since around 2017 (32,m/nb). We were long distance friends for years because I lived in another state, but we would make trips back and forth to see each other until I moved to his area in 2021. For the last 2 years, he has lived with my fiancee and I, along with our other roommate and our cat. Early this year, we took in a stray cat who turned out to be pregnant. We ended up keeping her and the kittens, so now we have a total of 4 humans and 5 cats living under one roof.
On Tuesday night, I went to take a shower. Everything was normal when I went into the bathroom, but when I went to open the door to leave I discovered that our entire apartment common area was filled with smoke. In a panic, I went to check on the adult cats and kittens, who thankfully had already been moved to a safe space with clean air. As I was doing this I was having a hard time breathing due to the smoke in my apartment. This was with all the windows open and a fan blowing smoke out into the night air. I ended up needing to go outside, still half soaking wet from the shower, because I still couldn't breathe.
After I went back in, I found out that my roommate had put DRY RAMEN NOODLES in the microwave and just forgot to put water in the bowl because he was too distracted talking about something with my other roommate. As a result, the entire bowl lit on fire. If someone hadn't realized what he did and stopped the microwave, he very well could've burned down our whole apartment building, let alone what could've happened to our not-even-12-weeks-old kittens. Everything was happening so fast that I didn't have time to process what happened until the next day, when I realized how dangerous everything that happened was.
I confronted him about everything when he got home from work. This was not the first time he had done something irresponsible that could've seriously hurt people, and I wanted him to know that this was my final straw. He had done stupid stuff in the past, like leaving our front door wide open so that the cats could escape, but he's also done some messed up stuff that I can't get into because it involves my other roommate who has sworn us to secrecy because she was so traumatized by this guy.
The thing that made me realize the friendship was over was this: For every reason I gave as to why I was upset, he gave 4 or 5 excuses to try and explain away everything. He tried to make it seem like it wasn't that big of a deal and refused to take responsibility for anything. He tried to paint himself as the one who saved the cats, and pointed out that HE was the one who opened the window to get the smoke out....like he didn't fucking cause it to begin with. He explained it away as a "dumb mistake" that anyone could've done....I'm done. My kittens could have died. Hell, my fiancee could've gotten hurt due to smoke inhalation (I feel the need to also mention that our other roommate, who didn't cause any of this, has serious health problems and smoke inhalation could've sent her to the hospital). I found out later that the smoke that I saw wasn't even the worst of it, before I had gotten out of the bathroom it was hard to even see in our apartment, and it actually escaped to the rest of the building. I'm amazed no one called the fire department, it was a BAD situation.
I'm sad. I can't trust this person and they don't even give a shit. It's almost like this whole thing was a joke to them. We are trying to find a new place to live ASAP, luckily our lease was ending soon anyway so we don't need to worry about finding someone to take over our portion of it. Disclaimer:

1. While there were plenty of cool things to praise, this is a useful CRITIQUE thread, so I'll start it as such.
2. Every single CA trailer has had "sus" things that made it into the game despite assurances by diehard fans that its "just a preview build bro dont worry about it bro"

Hopefully this thread can be something that CA can actually use and not immediately ignore due to overwhelming negativity and toxicity.
I'll start
Battle Physics critique and suggestions:

1. Soldiers Crowd-Crush and clip inside each other constantly, turning melee combat into a blobby awful mess.
   1. How to Fix: This isn't inherently a matched combat issue - rather CA needs to increase the collision bubble so soldiers give each other more space when milling about and not stabbing a foe. I've made mods that fix this before, its very easy.
   2. CA should Take a look at Divide Et Impera for Rome 2 for proof of non-blobby matched combat. Or also, Warhammer; its possibly the only modern total war that does this properly; even when fighting intensely, models give each other enough space to not blob and clip inside each other.
   3. At all costs please avoid the Troy problem where any unit not in Hold stance instantly becomes a cronenberg abomination of limbs and flesh in the un-modded game.
2. Soldiers staring for 4 seconds after each attack: Reduce the Attack-Cooldown from 4 to 1, reduce Damage per hit accordingly, to reduce staring contests and make fighting more lifelike. All combat is synced anyway, so it can't cause balance issues.
3. Un-armoured soldiers getting pin-cusioned by arrows and being fine: drastically increase arrow lethality, drastically decrease accuracy and rate of fire. Un-blocked arrows really should just kill an unarmoured model on hit. If a naked trooper eats an arrow he should go down, simply bad for immersion otherwise.

Soldier "Robotic-ness" critique and suggestions:

1. Units are too synchronised and robotic in how they move around and their idle animations etc. They look like the Tomb King Skellingtons from warhammer III, but like, with flesh.
   1. How to Fix: IMO CA should add a randomised 0-2 second delay for each model responding to orders given to its unit. This keeps them snappy for gameplay purposes, but fixes the robotic perfection issue.
   2. Give soldiers more idle animations and have them play way more frequently.
   3. Make soldiers dirtier. They look too clean. I'm not saying people never bathed back then, in fact they literally lived next to the NILE, so its probably realistic, but for aesthetics the soldiers simply look way too clean and shiny.
