Just a few ideas I have for expanding rail into Grand Central Terminal. The other day I made a post about expanding Rail into
Hoboken Terminal. Most of this proposal is based off restoring past services into the terminal. The Pittsfield line has been under various studies with the one currently underway for service New Milford or Danbury to GCT via Brewster. The Amtrak routes out of GCT will be more of a discounted service similar to ones that run in Europe like Flixtrain or Ouigo or Lumo. The originally planned
Berkshires flyer did leave out of GCT, but Connecticut sunk those plans refusing to fund them, so the route was changed, and service scope reduced down to one train instead of the 4 planned. The Amtrak Services listed below show the peak warmer months service level , winter would only be 1x daily roundtrip.
Metro North – Northern Suburbs Regional Rail - New Haven Line : New York – Fordham – New Rochelle – Greenwich – Stamford
- New Haven Line : New York – Stamford – South Norwalk – Bridgeport – New Haven
- New Canaan Branch : New York – Stamford – Glenbrook – New Canaan
- Harlem Line : New York – Fordham – White Plains – Pleasantville – Southeast – Wassaic
- Hudson Line : New York – Yonkers – Croton Harmon – Peekskill – Poughkeepsie
- Danbury Branch : New York – Stamford – South Norwalk – Danbury
- Pittsfield line : New York – White Plains – Brewster – Danbury – New Milford – Kent
Amtrak – Intercity services - Amtrak Berkshires Flyer : New York – South Norwalk – Danbury – Lee – Pittsfield – 2x daily
- Amtrak Berkshires Flyer : New York – White Plains – Danbury – Kent – Pittsfield – 2x daily
- Amtrak Cape Codder : New York – New Haven – Providence – Hyannis – 3x daily
- Amtrak Clam Digger : New York – New Haven – Providence – Fall River – Newport – 2x daily
- Amtrak Boston Twilight : New York – New Haven – Springfield – Worcester – Boston - 1x overnight
- Amtrak Green Mountain Flyer: Montreal - Burlington - Rutland – Watervliet - Albany - NY - 1x daily

*** excerpt***
TALES OF THE DEAD IN SPACE UNIVERSE:
THE MARCHING DEAD CORPS
The Terran Space Marines...
They are, hands down, the most elite fighting force that has ever been sent into space to protect, defend, and conquer in the name of mankind. Highly trained in surface, subsurface, and space combat, they are almost unbeatable in a fight. In the nearly two-hundred and forty years of the existence of the Terran Space Marines, there is a near zero record of them ever being defeated in incursions, rebellions, insurrections, wars, and even encounters with hostile extraterrestrial entities.
They are, hands down, the best equipped of all branches of the Terran armed forces, each Terran Space Marine packing the most advanced arms, armor, and equipment that the intergalactic military defense industry can supply. Employed only for the toughest missions, the Terran Space Marines are only called upon when the Terran government needs the very best, most elite fighting force in the galaxy, to accomplish the most impossible jobs. Their exploits have been legendary, from a regiment of Space Marines recapturing Norfolk Orbital Station from a plague which turned the quarter million inhabitants into crazed demonic horrors, to a platoon of Space Marines who killed a literal giant skeletal death god on a planet named Willow’s World.
The elite Space Marines are the few, they are the proud, and they are the exact opposite of the person who I am. I am definitely not Space Marine material. Hell, I’m not even Terran Space Regular Army material. Naturally, there are more regular Army Joes than there are elite Space Marines, the Army being easily ten times the size as the Space Marines.
I’m a trooper in the most non-elite, non-glamorous, and most expendable of all the branches. I’m part of the FODERR (fodder), or the Federal Optional Deployment Enlisted Reserve Regiments, and ‘yes’, we are all painfully aware that we are literally ‘fodder’ both in name and in mission. Probably the only thing that the FODERR has going for it is that we are the largest branch of the Terran military, far larger than even the Army. To give you an idea of how numerically massive our numbers are, for every one Space Marine there are about ten regular Army GI Joes. And for every one regular Army soldier, there are about fifteen to twenty of us reservist troopers. Our numbers need to be far greater than the other branches of the service due to the genus doctrine which our genus political masters came up with which states that if the enemy has twenty high impact rounds for their weapon, we will send twenty-one reserve troopers to take the enemy down. Such is the gallows humor which the average trooper such as myself has grown used to. The fact is, the only thing that outnumbers us on the battlefield are usually the enemy and the number of rubber body bags which the Terran government sends with us.
Artillery prep? Never heard of it. Flanking maneuvers? Don’t make me laugh. Armor support? Sure, if you’re the enemy. Not for us, though. In the FODERR, we have just one combat doctrine which is, ‘Hey, diddle-diddle, straight up the middle.’ Have you ever seen a full on FODRR frontal assault? It’s pretty impressive for the first few minutes. After that, however, it usually turns into a slaughter. That’s why the FODERR Corps are known throughout the galaxy simply as The Marching Dead.
Okay, okay, okay... maybe I’m exaggerating a little bit about us not having artillery and armor support. After about a month of basic infantry training, those of us basic trainees who have shown the aptitude for it, basically those of us who can’t find their asses with both hands, are sent to artillery and armor school. And those few of us with the ability to find their asses with just one hand may even be selected to go to aerospace flight school as a gunship pilot. For the rest of us, however, after basic infantry training we were sent to advanced infantry training for an additional three weeks where we were taught to operate mortars, anti-armor and anti-aircraft weapons, correctly breaking those heavy weapons down, putting those heavy weapons on our backs, then marching that heavy shit from one end of the galaxy to the other.
Oh, and by the way, don’t think you are going to get out of the Marching Dead Corps by simply falling out of the training. Once you sign the contract to be in the Corps, you are in until your three years is up or until you become the creamy filled center of a rubber body bag. If you fall out of training, all you end up doing is earning a front row seat to the spearhead of the assault, and that tends to be detrimental to your 25% chance of surviving to the end of your three year contract.
So, you might ask, why would otherwise mentally stable young people sign on to become a FODERR Trooper? Well, to tell you the truth, most of us didn’t. Most of those who signed the contract, the ‘Federal Option’ of the Federal Optional Deployment Enlisted Reserve Regiment, are convicted criminals who are facing long jail sentences. And in this day and age, criminal offenses such as saying or thinking something which might be a threat to the Party is enough to land you a date in court standing in front of a judge and a recruitment officer with a Federal Option military contract in hand.
For me, I was working at the main city library as a lowly librarian assistant, trying to scratch out a living while also trying to pay my way through college indoctrination. Our local Party officials voted themselves a 40% annual raise so, naturally, the loyal citizens’ taxes increased. I had been saving to pay my loyal citizen tax from last year when the Party officials voted themselves a raise, and finally had enough to pay. I took a day off to drive to the Department of Taxation, a twelve story complex that took up a full three city blocks downtown. Parking was scarce, so I had to drive around the block for almost an hour before I landed a parking space. After waiting for another three hours, I finally paid the taxes that I owed which, I found out, went directly into a fund that paid for the annual vacation of the Party City Council to the tropical paradise of the Vega X System.
As I returned to my car, I was greeted by an enforcement officer writing me ticket for a parking violation. It seems that the back bumper of my old lemon-mobile extended 2.2 centimeters into the parking space behind me, meaning that I was obligated to pay for two parking spaces instead of one. I was charged on the spot for attempting to defraud the local party government and, two hours later, I was hauled to the twenty-two story tall Department of Justice building across the street which took up six city blocks and, after a thirty minute wait, was standing in front of a judge. I was faced with multiple criminal charges including illegally occupying more than my fair share of public spaces, attempting to defraud local party government, disrespect of party mandates, illegal storage of a personal vehicle on public property, and because of my race, I was also charged with sympathizing with white supremacy.
Unfortunately, because I had just paid my yearly tax increases, I did not have the money to pay for these additional penalties and fees, which added the additional charge against me of illegally not having enough money in my bank account to pay for additional government mandated taxes, penalties, and fees, the recommended amount being at least 45% of your total bank account.
The judge sentenced me to sixty-five years of hard labor on a mining asteroid in orbit around Saturn or, if I so chose, I could take the three year Federal Option. As my car was being impounded, I signed the contract placed in front of me by a military recruiting officer who told me that the storage fees for my piece of shit vehicle will be taken from my first year of federal service. Along with about another five hundred people between the ages of 18 to 40 who became instant convicted criminals that afternoon, I was led to the west wing of the Department of Justice building where we waited for three more days, sleeping on cots without blankets in large, freezing, open bays, subsisting on toast and potato soup twice a day while under constant armed guard. There were no separate spaces for males, females, and those who identified as part of the LGBTQXRWYVF779+++ community. Fights were rarely broken up by the guards, but the three dozen or so people who tried to escape were quickly rounded up and handcuffed to braces on the walls for their entire stay, not being released even when it was feeding time or if they had to relieve themselves in the filthy restrooms which could barely service one hundred people. After three days, the two thousand people who were there before us were taken away and finally it was our turn to board the cattle trucks which would take us directly to our FODERR infantry basic training sites.
Since the Terran government declared a war on terrorism against the Alpha Centauri Colonies, over seventy FODERR infantry basic training camps were opened throughout the country, mostly abandoned or underused military bases which had been reopened and expanded, together adding nearly a quarter million troopers annually to send into the wars in space beside the regular Army and the Space Marines.
So, almost exactly two months after I was declared a hardened parking violation criminal, I found myself stuffed into a rusty space freighter along with two hundred other troopers on our way to war in the Alpha Centauri system...

2023.06.02 03:13 Abject_Blood5727 this one was in my drafts , so i sent this to chatgpt ;0)
I don't know what I should even write. I think I miss everyone back home, although they will be joining us soon, inshaAllah. But still, I am really missing them, especially the physical affectionate part. I miss hugging my mama and my M, holding my papa's hands. I miss being able to feel that soft, warm embrace that was always within reach a month back. I didn't know that I was missing them. I only realized it when M hugged mama while I was on the video call with them. I had to pass on the phone to bhai to hide my tears, real tears. I am 29, for goodness' sake, not 2. Since then, I have been a bit emotionally volatile. Ouch, my poor brother. Although I can always go for a hug or a pat on the head to bhai, I think we are a bit old for that, and such privileges should only be limited to Eid. Mama gives the best hugs, soft and warm, and the perfect height where I can easily hook my chin on her shoulder, whereas I am mostly hugging M's belly when I hug her. It's stupid that I am writing this, but I guess, after all this missing and crying my eyes out, I deserve to write the unadulterated truth.
I am going on long walks these days. Yesterday, I went to a Ukraine fest thingy on foot, 3.4 km in 29 degrees Fahrenheit, and as my hijabs are still on the way, I wore my thick winter hijab. If I had boiled, it would have been an understatement. I took the metro back. My rationale for taking such long walks is that I need the exercise. I can't work out in the apartment; I haven't joined the gym yet, and I probably won't join one (sweat) and fitna e rijaal. So walking is what I do, and it is better than being cooped up in the apartment. More importantly, I love my little adventures. While Toronto is like Instagram, Edmonton is like Reddit or better yet, Tumblr. Weird in a weird way, but it grows on you with all its frills. I love this place; it reminds me of Lahore. Weird people, weird place, weird customs. Weird in a good sense, the kind of weird that I like. The people here are wow; it's a crowd of misfits ,who fit so wonderfully together. And here I'm not talking even taking about the personalities. I'm talking about the green hair, too many braids, tattoos, and man buns. The most gangsta-looking person will approach you and say, "Good morning" or "How are you doing?" (I have to physically stop myself from saying alhamdulillah).
In the early days, I used to get a few hellos and "have a good days," but ever since I started wearing hijab, the number has increased. My brother says they want to make you feel welcome, to a level that I recently got an "Assalamu alaikum, sister" from across the street from a brother. Everything is good; me and bhai work well as a unit. I cooked a few dishes here and there, but I guess he likes cooking too much to give it up, so I let him cook and limit myself to other chores like cleaning, washing dishes, or sometimes meal prep. I am getting used to the prayer timings; it's, in fact, good. I can offer Zuhr at 2 pm, go to the library, or waltz around the town and still be able to make Asr in time, even if I come back home at 8 pm.
I hope my hijabs are delivered before I start my job; otherwise, I will be wearing the winter ones every day. I got a part-time job, although bhai told me there is no need to get one. I insisted for my mental well-being. I am applying for jobs in Ireland and have also applied for an advanced paramedic course here. Let's see what comes first. If I don't get an SHO job in Ireland till Jan, I will probably join the ACP program and try to write my licensing exams in the two years the program lasts. So there is a lot to do. I am trying to do everything in my might, with the job search, the chores, the sightseeing, and the documentation, but I think I am lacking in my prayers. Although I try to offer all five each day, they are rushed. I need to work on that. Maybe a bit of extra caffeine can help. It's 2:29 am. I should probably sleep now as this is getting embarrassing with each passing moment. Allah knows best. Fe aman Allah. Love, B.

I have a virtual job interview this week and was planning on booking a room at a library, but the main branch requires a 5 day notice on top of a fee. I was thinking worst case, I could be in the speaking area and have a mutable headset, but thought asking here first might be a good idea. (My living space is too disorganized to have on camera.)
Does anyone have recommendations for a private space to interview in? I wouldn't mind paying a small fee if it were quiet and presentable.

I like Borderlands, Far Cry, Halo, Metro series all shooters and Fallout. I’ve been trying to branch out. Been playing Hi-Fi Rush and Gotham Knights. Is this game fun? Do you like it? If I like these games will I like this? Something different you know. The only rogue like games I have played is Risk of Rain 2. I liked it playing with friends. I’ll be playing this solo since nobody I know has it

2023.06.01 22:27 uncbears34 Any Advice for Someone Trying to Exit the Mortgage Industry?
Hi Everyone,
This is my first time posting in this sub, so I hope I'm in the right place. I've been in the mortgage business for 15+ years, and I just can't do it anymore. This market and these rates have been a real challenge, and it's really set us back as a family having to work our way through the fluctuating income that comes with this business. I'm burned out, and I need to do something else. It's too much to continue to put my wife and daughters through.
What tips or suggestions does anyone have for changing careers? In particular, leaving mortgage loan origination and finding something else. I've been 100% commission this entire time. I'd like something just a little more stable even if it isn't a fully guaranteed salary. I have a successful track record of 15 years in sales, plus in the last 5 years I've added branch and area manager titles and duties which includes running daily branch operations and recruiting.
The first objection, and so far the toughest hurdle to get over, has been that all of my experience has been in one industry/area. Feels pretty simple to say 'I didn't really know lending when I began but I carved out a nice little 15 year career doing that', but that answer hasn't seemed to move the needle all that much. Any advice, tips, industries, connections (I'm in the DC Metro area), suggestions, are welcome. I'm open to just about anything.
Thanks

2023.06.01 18:39 bstyledevi Anyone else getting completely screwed by UMB?
Woke up this morning and there's a big notice on my UMB account that "some transactions may have double posted." Check my account and I'm short almost $300 because of double posts. I've been struggling with issues ever since they did their systems upgrade in March, with other phantom double charges that show up for a week and then just disappear. I've called their support line and keep getting told "yeah we don't know what it is, we're still working on it."
Any suggestions for who I should change my primary banking to? I have a savings account at Mazuma, so I'm considering just shifting over there.
I felt like this applied since UMB is a Kansas City based bank that has branches all over the Metro.
EDIT: update as of about an hour ago, my account now shows "Manual entry" for the amounts of the double processed debits, so that part is at least taken care of. I hope everyone else affected by this gets resolved ASAP.

2023.06.01 18:35 Hirokage Feeling Burned Out and Led On?
Bit of a rambling post, apologies for the length. I've been following this topic for over 35 years now I guess, here are just some of my thoughts on the subject.
I guess first off, I'm the opposite of those who feel burned out by the subject. After 30 years, getting the traction, news, some videos, and legislation has been a whirlwind to me. After decades of stigma created by the military around the subject with smirking news anchors covering a UFO story, having it be discussed seriously is honestly mind-blowing to me. And make no mistake, it is not the government itself creating this vacuum of information, it is just a branch of government.. the military, that is stonewalling the populace.
And the Pentagon is still doing so. They did not willingly release anything. The scant videos that were painstakingly released via FOIA or the few leaked videos were simply acknowledged by them, nothing more. They removed a key member of the investigative team prior to the first required report, making it the important but still joke of a short report that it was. They have refused at every turn to cooperate, and their briefing where they showed maybe 2 frames of a dot and their people were clueless about the Wilson memo was laughable. They are not slow leaking anything, not disclosing anything, and not allowing their clear and probably damning videos to be declassified. The Pentagon is not your friend for this topic, they never have been, and are continuing a 7 + decade stonewalling campaign of ignorance.
People are angry with those revealing information and I honestly don't get it. Lue has gone above and beyond to reveal what he knew, risking his security clearance (which is the only way he makes a living). Not a single one of us would have even know there was a secret program to study UAP if not for him. Corbell is a cornball but he at least is trying to release new info as well. Keep in mind they are trying to do this the 'right' way. It's the only way to have the possibility to continue what they are doing. This involves probably 99% refusal for any FOIA requests or massively redacted info, proper CoC, and not leaking info that would cause the Pentagon to shut down their operations. Their efforts have led to the creation of legislation to allow reporting and hearings we haven't had in decades, along with agencies like NASA and private colleges and universities to open studies into it.
Not everything they release is going to be legit. Corbell should have admitted the last sighting was flares. He desperately wants everything to be real. But who cares. I have not given him a dime, and have had access to stuff he has produced that is legit, so I don't care about this sort of thing. It's flares.. I move on. I have not given him a dime. Lue and Corbell are 'grifting?' I don't think so for a second. They are not inventing fantasy to make money. If they were, they would not have the backing of Congress and they would not have created legislation around UAP, and NASA would not be studying it.
Might they make some money off what they do? Ok.. good for them. Will Lue write a book? I don't care. If so, I probably won't buy it, but I hope it does well. Will Corbell make money from his podcasts? Again, I don't care, I won't pay for anything, but I do appreciate the things he puts out there that are legitimately interesting. Just because any of these guys does something stupid or produced junk imo does not negate the content they have produced that is legitimately interesting. I ignore the noise, I care about substance, and if these guys can produce a single thing a year, that is a single thing a year more than I am used to getting in the past.
True grifting is Greer - guy who drops flares and tricks people into paying exorbitant fees for his mythical alien contact.
Two more ramblings.. debunkers and increase of sightings.
I am more a skeptic than I ever thought I would be when I started posting on ATS years ago before it went south, and here as well. The topic needs healthy skepticism. Debunking is different imo. In the past it was folks like Klass who would make claims like.. the Tehran UFO of 1972 was Jupiter. Utter nonsense. And now we have new folks who feel the need to debunk every sighting. I don't mind that they have skepticism. And they are often right. Mick West posting pictures of a flare for the recent sighting over a military base - he was right, Corbell was wrong. But imo, going into ALL sightings and assuming they all have a mundane explanation and attacking it from that angle is the wrong way to do it. Gather the facts first and be open minded. Your goal shouldn't be the 100% 'debunking' of every sighting produced. If you are approaching it like that, you are doing it wrong. You are not debunking off 'hard data' when you 100% don't have all the data. Eyewitnesses can be faulty, but 100% ignoring their testimony is also the wrong way to go about it. If courts had the same mentality, we wouldn't have a court system at all.
Finally, I do think there is an increase of sightings. In the past they were fairly rare. Then there was a period of 8 or so years where every dot in the sky was posted because a camera was attached to everything. And I don't mind.. people are genuinely curious of they caught the golden goose. I don't like outright hoaxers.
But there has been a recent increase imo. I trust pilots with over 10k air hours when they say they know exactly what satellites (including Starlink) satellites looks like, and their racetrack UAP are not satellites. They see them for long period of time (15 mins to hours). They dim and go bright again. They maneuver in multiple directions. Starlink existed for years, and long before last August when these sightings suddenly started being reported. Some pilots may well be seeing Starlink satellites. That doesn't mean they all are.
The recent fiasco with the U.S. going after 3 objects over a weekend is another anomalous event. Sure.. here is a selfie of a guy in a spy plane and the Chinese balloon, but no.. we won't release any video on UAP we spent hours trying to identify. And an official saying "There is a reason we are not calling them balloons." And NOAA saying flatly.. no, it is not a balloon of ours, our balloons don't hover. The sphere videos in the middle east. There is more activity.
Anyway, thanks for sticking around if you read all that. : )
I just feel excited. Not bored, wore out, burned out, or led on. Compared to the past, the recent activity is moving at a ridiculous pace. It took Stanton Friedman 10 years in the Library of Congress and submitting FOIA requests to write his Top Secret / Majic book. The last 5 years is laughably fast in comparison. If you started following when the articles were first released several years ago, trust me when I say.. this is moving at a lightning pace for this subject. Be patient, and don't bite the hands that feed us. You don't have to agree with everything Lue or Corbell or anyone else says.. use your own judgement. But don't completely discount them either, they have provided a lot of content and movement on the subject we haven't had before.
My very final thought on this, is that it will probably take a very serious whistleblower (i.e. the next Snowden) to break this open. Not enough in Congress care about the subject to put any pressure on the Pentagon. Considering their debt ceiling bill gives the Pentagon even more leverage, it's unlikely they will be pressured to produce anything. An Executive Order does nothing. The President has no idea if what produced is the totality of what they have. I am hoping someone comes forth with direct involvement and lots of proof, maybe the increased pressure on the subject will help them make up their mind.

I have a business zoom meeting in a few weeks, would like to rent a conference room (any library location works). Seeing if anyone had experience doing this before, my main concern is the internet access being unreliable? Any of the branches I should avoid? Thanks!

2023.06.01 18:17 McNeilAdmissions Rising seniors, here are last-minute ideas to kick your ECs into high gear
It's always sorta funny to read DMs from seniors who say something like, “I’m submitting my application this weekend, any advice on how I can stand out?”
What am I supposed to say?
“Yes. Build a time machine. Go back to sophomore year — then get an internship, go to clown school, or learn how to code. Good luck!”
I kid. The fact is, yes, the way you
write about the experiences you do have has a
huge bearing on how your application is reviewed, but you can't just fake it. Nothing beats legit extracurricular engagements, experiences, and learning, especially when it comes to applying to highly selective/rejective schools.
(You can read
u/ben-MA's piece on how these schools review applications
here.)
The week before you submit your application is too late to try to “stand out." So, given that we're just at the beginning of summer, here are some ideas on how to authentically boost your extracurricular resume over the next few months.
First, you might want to read about how competitive schools “
score” your ECs and soft factors and the types of ECs AOs
want to see more of.
Once you’re versed in the basics, you’ll understand that extracurricular
magnitude and impact help students stand out in the process. (Key term alert!) You’ll also understand the breadth of activities you engage with outside of the classroom that “count” as extracurriculars.
Here are a few ways that students can level up their ECs. Remember, as with anything to do with extracurriculars: lead with learning and fun. This shouldn’t be some busywork boring task you do to impress some nameless admission officer. Instead, find interesting ways to use your time outside of the classroom that will also make great fodder for your application.
Combine two interests into one The basic of this idea is to find an intersection between two of your extracurricular interests and create something new.
On the soccer team and interested in community service? Looking for something to do this summer? Maybe you volunteer with (or start!) a local organization that provides soccer clinics to low-income students. Interested in web design and on the debate team? Maybe you design a website where your team can share resources.
Here's a good one from a student a few years back — she was interested in CS and journalism. She started an organization that trained students in how to do effective data-driven investigative journalism. Cool.
Your ideas will probably be more creative than mine because you know your interests, skills, and community. Start by writing out all of your engagements and look for connections in areas you wouldn’t expect.
And remember, your project or idea doesn’t have to change the world. Heck, you don’t even have to share it with anyone for it to be a valuable learning experience.
Remember: outsized local impact can be huge Speaking of not having to change the world. It's often students who made a difference in their local community who have the most
distinctive stories to tell.
I often find that kids underestimate the impact they can have locally. There are thousands of essays about tennis and orchestra a cycle (no offense to any future Federers or bassoonists), but only one about petitioning the city to install a stop sign at a busy intersection. I've seen so many compelling applications from students who joined their local school boards, organized protests, helped get a bill passed, or built a website so their local library system could keep track of books on loan across branches.
You know your community as well as anyone. Think about problems in the area. Maybe start with a local paper. What do you bring to the table? Who could you organize? What can you improve?
Think like a startup This harkens
back to this post I wrote long, long ago. The examples I gave there combine all of these ideas.
The idea — startups understand three things. You can get something off the ground that has meaning and impact if you adhere to them:
- The customer is always right. I.e. that’s where the demand is. Is there a demand for what you’re doing? Is there a need? What actual human beings need and will benefit from what you're creating? If you can identify them, and verify the need, you’re on the right track.
- Time is your most important resource. Get off the ground as quickly as possible. You don't need to launch something perfect. Perfection comes later, or never comes at all. Focus on starting and launching.
- Define success appropriately. See notes on local impact. Success can mean a lot of different things depending on the context.
So, what should you be thinking about as you approach senior year? As far as admissions goes, for the most part, you should be focusing on a balanced list of schools (likely, target, reach) that you would be excited to attend from top to bottom. You should be visiting schools if at all possible, researching them online, and learning about the application process.
Complete any unfinished school research and understand if any of your schools track demonstrated interest and plan accordingly. Attend online information sessions and tours. Learn about major pathways and competitiveness. Research supplemental essays. And consider your strengths as a student and applicant and how you’ll weave that into a cohesive narrative in your application.
Don’t skimp on this part. I see a concerning number of A2Cers obsess over schools because of rankings that have nothing to do with them. Do
your research.
As far as extracurriculars are concerned, you’ve likely done most of what you’re going to do in high school. Still, I always recommend finding a summer plan that dovetails nicely into senior year and, ideally, gives you something to write about in one of those supplemental essays. To that end, commit yourself fully to one or two extracurricular engagements this summer where you’ll learn a lot and have something to write about in your essays.
