2023.03.25 00:56 autotldr UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday delivered an urgent call for the world to modify and safeguard water resources to avert conflict and ensure future global prosperity
This is the best tl;dr I could make,
original reduced by 74%. (I'm a bot)
Water is "The most precious common good," and "Needs to be at the center of the global political agenda," Guterres said at the end of a three-day UN conference that experts said held a measure of promise.
"All of humanity's hopes for the future depend, in some way, on charting a new science-based course to bring the water action agenda to life," Guterres said.
The world is not on track to meet its 2030 water goals, including access to safe drinking water and sanitation for all.
Guterres earlier in the week described water as humanity's "Lifeblood" and said its "Vampiric overconsumption" had "Broken the water cycle" and led to more natural disasters.
At the global level, the issue of water "Is a huge problem and one conference is not going to do it," Iceland added, pleading for annual conferences on water.
Without a dedicated UN agency or global treaty, "Water has no home here at the UN," said Henk Ovink, water envoy of the Netherlands, which was a coorganizer of the conference.

2023.03.25 00:55 Bumblebe5 Palisades Center Trip Report: Friday Fun (3/24/23)
My mom and brothers went to Buffalo, NY. So me and my dad went somewhere better. Of course I mean Palisades.
We left at 5 pm. I brought my Knuckles stuffy. I filmed a video (actually a sequel to a Black Friday video I filmed at the Bergen Town Center with a Sonic stuffy) about Knuckles exploring the Palisades Center.
Dad let me go thru a few corridors, though I never got to see where they led to. We went to Burger King and had the Impossible Whopper, since it is Lent, and I can't eat meat on Fridays. It wasn't filling.
Then we went to Target, and I bought a bottle of Sparkling Ice (I need those to survive, since I gave up soda for Lent.) We went to Dave & Buster's after that.
I played Fruit Ninja (no bombs), Injustice Arcade (I got Green Lantern on my team this time round, but he died, and my dad hit the Special Attack button for me), Star Trek, SpongeBob, and the Terminator VR game. I told the guy running the game about how Terminator reminds me of the Superman TAS "New Kids in Town" episode, and he actually got that. I made his day. Then I played Mario and Sonic (played as Knuckles, got up to Day 2 Gymnastics and failed) and Ring Toss.
Then we went by the Ice Rink to find that storage room where all the old stuff like the Brazeiro animals were. We didn't find it, but we did find some old logos on the floor, including Oscar Meyer and DiGiorno (which weren't even in the mall. Why would they put them there?) I have some questions about some of the stores that were on the floor, but I'll save it for the Knuckles video's release, since I got them on tape.
Then we went over to the west parking garage to see if we could find the Rainforest Café props and Food Court stuff. We ended up finding some Home Depot storage and Best Buy auto shit. Then we left.
Funny things: when we were at Target, there were these two guys talking about SpongeBob. "Will you increase my wages? Will you let me play my clarinet? Then I'll give you the secret formula!" Then we heard a guy say, "Jamar, what the fuck?!" in a different aisle. They were probs employees. Whoever you are, thank you for making me laugh.
I can't wait to go back. I don't think I've seen everything.

2023.03.25 00:47 critical_courtney [A Bargain for Bliss] — Chapter One (A sequel to The Fae Queen's Pet)
Now that I've concluded Reincarnated as the Wolf Goddess, the sequel to The Fae Queen's Pet is finally kicking off. Welcome to A Bargain for Bliss. Book One Synopsis: It's been a few months since Sierra Chelsi came to live in the Raven Queen's palace, and she's found herself more at home each day. But the queen has been busy working on something big. Her secrets are kept from even the young werewolf she ensnared. When the queen finally reveals her schemes, it's apparent something big is coming to the Raven Court. The only question is what role her beloved pet will play. The familiar fierce werewolf who threatens nobles at court so Varella can keep order. . . or perhaps something a little more tender. https://preview.redd.it/y46jrzlkxrpa1.jpg?width=1410&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6c1b0cbfc8528c409168abf59fc72264b000b0a Chapter One: I heard her before she entered the room. Her footsteps were light as if the wind carried her feet across each piece of the floor. And sometimes it actually did. She used to sneak up on me, but in the three months I’d lived in Featherstone, the Raven Queen had fallen prey to my advanced predatory senses, the kind only a fierce huntress could cultivate. My senses would never be as sharp as those of my inner wolf, but enough bled through that I was a better tracker than any human and most faeries. Casually striding over to the window in my bedroom, I unlatched it and waited for the queen’s knock at my door. Two arrived. She was growing impatient. Good, I thought. Just what I wanted. I called for my mistress to enter, and she opened the door. I noticed Barsilla, her arrogant left-hand lady hovering just above the queen’s shoulder. That piskie had grown increasingly fed up with my antics as of late. At least, she made a big show of it. Of course, when my eyes hovered over the queen, I felt my heart skip a beat. Eyes widening as though I was looking at her for the first time, I came within inches of dropping my plan entirely. Her otherworldly beauty held me in a trance, seven feet of alluring artistry from her sleek obsidian hair to her enrapturing violet eyes that held all the mysteries of a Faerie Queen seemingly within reach, daring all who saw to reach forward. Her words floated across the room to my ears with all the confidence of a monarch who expected obedience and steadfast loyalty. “Come, my pet. I’m scheduled to hold court in 10 minutes, and I need my fearsome beast.” It took almost everything I had not to prance across the room and throw myself at her. The tiny fae hovering nearby had her usual pencil and clipboard out at the ready in case she needed to write down something important. Barsilla’s eyes practically said, “Do it. I dare you.” But that was ridiculous. The piskie couldn’t have known what I was planning, right? I looked at her again in her tiny librarian outfit. And just staring at the representation of order and rules in the palace rekindled some spark of rebellion in my bratty ass. “Apologies, mistress,” I said, not looking at Varella again because I knew her eyes would lure me in again, freezing me in my tracks. “Don’t you dare,” was all I heard Barsilla say as I frantically slid the window open and leaped outside. The queen was fast, and I felt her grasp millimeters from my nape as I dove toward the palace grounds a few stories below. Landing and immediately tucking into a roll, I exhaled. Then I rose with as much speed as I could leech from my inner wolf and bolted toward the back of Featherstone. From the window, I heard my mistress’ low tenor voice carry a warning, “My pet. . .” Those words sent a shiver down my spine, and I knew this was fucking with her schedule. But I didn’t care. You welcome a brat into your home, and you should be expected to anticipate the consequences. I didn’t hear her leaping out the window after me, just the soft swish of wild rye grass under my feet as I bolted away from where I landed. Will she endure the humiliation of being seen chasing down her pet werewolf, or will the mighty queen march herself to hold court without the fierce beast she’s grown so accustomed to wielding over her nobles and guests? I thought, snickering. A few months ago when I’d arrived at Featherstone, freshly ensnared in a bargain of the queen’s making, I wouldn’t have dared acted this way. There were probably mice in the walls of the basement that were less timid than me. But what can I say? The queen and her best intelligence agent had made me very comfortable here. They’d given the werewolf a cookie, and in turn, she’d not only stolen the entire glass of milk but the jar of remaining sweets as well. Okay, normally I wasn’t this bad. But this week had been long, and restlessness was building up in every joint of my body. Maybe I was a little pissy. Or perhaps the full moon was three nights away. Both things could be true, I thought, the rear guard tower coming into view as I rounded a corner. It stood a few stories higher than my window with a narrow spiral staircase running up the center. A few faerie guards stood on the ground watching me bolt for the stone bridge behind the palace. They were armed with spears and leather armor bearing the queen’s crest in the center, a black bird, head back, beak open, and crying to the sky with its wings spread wide. The guards looked nervously at each other as I continued running full speed in nothing but my silk pajamas with various puppy designs sewn into the fabric. My curly brown hair bounced behind me, and I realized the guards were calculating how much trouble they’d get in if I was allowed to simply cruise on by. “Um. . . Sierra?” One woman with short green hair cut into a bob stammered as she took a step to block my path. I leaped about five feet over her head using every bit of that borrowed werewolf strength in my legs. She didn’t move to grab me, just scratching her cheek in confusion. Looking further up the guard tower, she called for Ceras. The queen’s top talon jumped from the second story and landed behind me, hand axe rattling at their side. “What is it, Belamie?” They asked as I continued running for the bridge, morning sunlight reflecting off the lake. The scent of forest and fish entered my senses as my brain told me I was nearly free. “Do we just let the royal pet go?” Belamie asked. Turning back for a brief moment and running backward, I yelled, “Ceras! If you see the queen, stall her! And suggest to her that I went out the front gate into town. Please and thank you!” Rushing off into the tree line, the last thing I heard was Ceras chuckling to themselves and stretching. “Patrols turn up anything this morning?” They asked. “No,” Belamie said. “Then we’ll let her majesty sort out this issue with her pet. She’ll be fine,” Ceras said. “Besides, I doubt the queen has let her prized possession get too far ahead of her.” Rushing into the trees and seeing aspens, evergreens, and other greenery native to Faerie, I sneered. Bullshit, I thought. There’s no way the queen would delay court to rush after me. Bushes whipped around me, and I jumped over a stump, knowing it would be more difficult for the queen to fly through the treetops and snatch me from above. That was assuming she was giving chase. After about five minutes, I came to a stop, sweaty and heart-hammering. This particular patch of trees wasn’t far from where the queen had put down my inner wolf, earning the right to be my pack leader. My eyes darted at every snapped twig, a bead of sweat running down my cheek. To my left, a rabbit took one look at me and decided it could afford the risk of chomping on a purple flower nearby. Bitch, I’m a werewolf, I thought. You should be fleeing in the opposite direction. Puffing out my chest, I turned toward the brown and white rabbit. I put my hands on my hips and said, “Excuse me. Do you know what I am? You dare to snack in the presence of a fearsome werewolf? An apex predator for which capturing a rabbit in her jaws would be pup’s play?” The rabbit didn’t even turn its head to acknowledge my words. It just continued chewing on the flower’s stem, taking the vegetation in like a board into a sawmill. Raising my hands slowly and pretending I had the claws of my inner wolf, I took a step toward the bunny. “You should be more cautious in assessing your surroundings for danger, Bugs.” The rabbit’s blue eyes finally glanced over at me as it sniffed at another flower nearby, this one with a large yellow bulb. Its nose and whiskers twitched before it decided to ignore me once more and snatch another snack. “I’m serious, little bunny. Surely you smell the wild canine inside of me. Your heart should be pounding in your chest, eyes watching my claws for any hint of movement. Otherwise, when you’re distracted, you might yourself suddenly hoisted into the air and EEEEEP—,” I shrieked, interrupted by a sudden, terrible force of upward movement that snagged my shoulders. Up through tree branches I went, air sucked out of my lungs from sheer terror at the speed with which I was being carried. Looking down, I watched the trees below me start to shrink, and then I felt myself suddenly reversing direction, falling toward the lake approaching terminal velocity. “Fuuuuucccckkkk meeeeeeee,” I screamed, preparing for a sudden bath of epic proportions. As a werewolf, I was a bit tougher than the average human even when I walked on two legs. But from this height, I could at least expect a bruise or two landing in the water. And then, just as I steadied myself for a fishy fate, a pair of well-toned arms caught me just a few feet above the lake water. I was close enough to already smell the algae and aquatic turtles I prepared to join. Yet, I’d been given a reprieve. Looking up at my savior, I saw the Raven Queen grinning down at me with all the smug satisfaction radiating from her face that she could muster. Two large black-feathered wings carried us over the water as Varella gradually moved into a hover, holding me Lois Lane style in her arms. The lake wind swirled around my hair and floppy pajamas as her violet eyes found mine. The inhuman red eyes I carried were locked in her gaze, not even wielding enough strength to frighten a wee rabbit. Goddamn, some days I was a downright disgrace to the canine race. “Well, my pet. I hope you got all those. . .what do you mortals call them? Zoomies? Out of your system. We’ve got a long day at court ahead,” she said, the grin never leaving her face. She knew I wouldn’t get far. She knew! Sighing, I crossed my arms. “I bet I was so close to getting away. You probably panicked and used all your magic to track me down,” I said, frowning. “Actually, I was watching you from the sky the entire time. You’re in the heart of my court, where my magic is at the epicenter of intensity. Before your feet even touched the ground I was in the air above you,” she said, laughing. Her dulcet chortle left me wanting to curl up in her arms and wrap myself tightly within her grip, closing my eyes and forgetting about all the needs and responsibilities of running a queendom for the day. But no! I’d done this for a reason, and she needed to know why. Even if the inconvenience was beyond minor, she had to know there was a point. Well. . .as much of a point as my bratty ass could make for being obstinate, which typically wasn’t much beyond being eternally difficult for the sake of adversity. “Yeah, well. I wasn’t even really trying. You’re lucky I didn’t let my inner wolf loose,” I said, arms crossed tighter. “Ah yes, an ability you’ve yet to manifest here, even after three full moons. But rest assured, my pet. Even if you were on four paws instead of two legs, I could have easily snatched you from the forest floor as I did just minutes ago,” she said. And then the queen’s grin started to fade as she raised an eyebrow. “Though your inner wolf wouldn’t have run just before court anyway. It seems to be tamer the longer you remain under the weight of my sorcery and influence, bound by my bargain. But you, Sierra, acted out unexpectedly this morning. Why?” This was my chance! Here I could let her have it! But instead of unleashing a torrent of words, I just found myself lost in her eyes again. There wasn’t an ounce of impatience in her voice, despite today’s events being delayed by a few minutes. Though I guess you start when the queen says you start. And if you have a complaint, her werewolf would bite your face off. Sighing again, I sagged in her grip, words caught in my throat that I couldn’t seem to dislodge or cough up. Fuck, all I could do was that infamous bottom gesture where I pointed my index fingers at each other and looked pathetic. On second thought, it’s no wonder the rabbit didn’t run away screaming earlier, I thought. “Come now, my pet. You ran for a reason. Out with it. It’s just the two of us here over the lake,” Varella said with an added softness to her tone. The game was over. And now I had to suffer the consequences of my actions, namely being upfront about my feelings. Surely there was something a little easier I could endure, being locked in an Iron Maiden or forced to listen to Rascal Flatts on repeat? The queen made no move to rush me, which just increased the feelings of wanting to curl up tight against her breasts and have a few hours with her all to myself. “You’ve been so busy lately,” I finally managed in a pathetic whisper. That was all the queen got for at least 30 seconds. A crane covered in pink and white feathers flew around us and closer to the shoreline of the palace while my mistress waited for more words. “And Lily’s still gone on her assignment in the Tulip Court. I just— maybe I needed you to pay attention to your pet for a few minutes this morning,” I said, looking anywhere but her eyes. Saying this stuff was embarrassing enough. The Raven Queen did not sigh. And she chose her following words carefully. “You speak right, my little wolf. My work and duties have increased threefold over the last few weeks,” she said. “And you won’t tell me what you’ve been working on. Whenever I ask, you give me some vague answer meant to dismiss my curiosity,” I said. The queen looked over the palace for a moment. Her eyes carried a quiet contemplation that I couldn’t begin to analyze. But then again, she was a Faerie Queen who’d lived for centuries. Her perspective was bound to be drastically different than mine. And maybe I’d forgotten that. “I’ve been working on Bliss, Sierra. And it's remained under wraps so much so that not even Cereas knows about it. Even your girlfriend hasn’t heard my plan yet. So why don’t we have dinner tonight, just the two of us, and then I’ll finally answer all your questions,” the queen said. Now that did lift my heart pretty high to the point I felt like I was running on clouds. Damn if my mistress didn’t know exactly what strings to pull. All I could do was nod and finally give in to the temptation to nuzzle up into Varella. I breathed deep in her scent of chilly night air and raspberries that I’d come to associate with safety and comfort. I sighed one last time, content with the answers that’d been given me. The Raven Queen leaned down and slowly kissed my forehead, sending a tickle of delirium through my mind. It was something much more powerful than serotonin, and I made a muffled noise of pleasure. “Can we head back to Featherstone now? I’m afraid your inner wolf’s presence is required,” Varella whispered. “Just one more minute hovering here, please. I need you, mistress. So let me have you for just a little longer.” And because she spoiled me rotten, I got five more minutes with Varella just holding me over the water, morning breeze carrying our hair around us this way and that. I need to run away from her more often, I thought. submitted by critical_courtney to redditserials [link] [comments]

OG Writing Prompt: "Aliens discover art by hr gieger, are very concerned"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ruxalkia Er'Thromos was beside herself. The Nereidian chronicler had learned more about humans in a single day than she had in all her centuries. Humanity... the stories she'd heard did them no justice: they weren't the strongest, fastest, not even the most intelligent species, but even the weakest among them could easily outfight the strongest of her race.
(
Translated from Standard Thalassian). "[{
To think one of those hairless apes actually fought His Majesty himself to a standstill... what's more, he nearly outmaneuvered him underwater! A species whose members can barely hold their breath beneath the surface for half a Terran minute, and they came dangerously close to defeating him! The King was lucky that human was holding back. Maybe now he'll take his duties more seriously: that heir isn't going to sire itself, after all... but enough about that}]."
Er'Thromos had finally reached her destination: Gigertown, Gruyeres, Switzerland. The aquatic female swallowed hard: it was one thing to look upon photographs and holocaps, yet to actually behold the place was nothing short of ominous. The town entrance consisted of a massive steely gate drilled with countless holes of various depths and sizes. Ruxalkia shuddered: the thing looked... alive, ready to spawn countless abominations only the sick minds of humans could envision.
"{[
Maybe coming here was a bad idea...}]."
Nevertheless, the Nereidian found the courage to go inside. Houses, shops, offices, parks, squares, every single edifice resembled something out of a nightmare, to put it mildly. Much like the entrance door, these dwellings were cast from metal, albeit one which seemed to... pulsate?
"{[
My eyes must be deceiving me... are those structures pumping blood!?}]."
Much like Terrans and other living beings, the buildings themselves pumped some sort of blood through ever busy veins and arteries. Er'Thromos nearly fainted: she had to get away from those eyesores. Against her better judgement, the chronicler rushed into the building closest to her. She barely had time to read the sign at front: Xenomorph Appreciation Den.
"[{
I should find something to eat... preferably without capsaicin}]."
Ruxalkia settled for a medium serving of xeno-friendly conch lambi rolls, a dish hailing from a Terran region named Haiti, located somewhere in the Caribbean basin. Blessed be the gods! Something she could taste
without needing to sign a waver, and within her budget, too!
Er'Thromos had barely whipped out her card when she came face to face with the cashier: a black-hued eyeless creature standing on digitigrade feet, dressed like one of those "busboys," who then addressed her in immaculate German.
"[{Good afternoon, Madame. That'll be one-hundred Terran Dataries}]."
The chronicler nearly froze.
(
Translated from Standard Thalassian). "[{
Cylindrical-shaped head, eyeless visage, sharp-toothed mouth and second mouth... a Xenomorph... they do exist!}]."
Luckily Ruxalkia had enough self-possession to hand over her card and go through the remaining motions without further incident. The Nereidian couldn't quite repress an invisible shudder: the whole place was packed with Xenomorphs and other races. The female felt a knot in her stomach by the time somebody called out to her.
"Er'Thromos?"
The chronicler turned to that familiar voice.
"Alex Smithers? What are you doing here?"
"I was about to ask you the same thing. Are you alright? This place... follow me."
The aquatic female complied without a fuss. Outside at the main balcony, Smithers addressed an Ailuran server, who then found them a nice table overlooking a panoramic view of the city. Having tipped the server, Er'Thromos addressed the human.
"Doctor... what is this place? Who...
what are these strange creatures?"
"Keep your voice down. These guys don't take kindly to remarks like that." (
Brief pause). "Where do I begin? Are you familiar with the work of H.R. Giger?"
"He is a long deceased Terran, one of your 'artists', isn't he?"
Alex chuckled.
"That's putting it mildly. Giger, he designed the Xenomorphs and other such creatures you'll see around these parts. Centuries after his death, an eccentric billionaire decided she wanted to have children, so she funded a shady covert op to genetically engineer them."
"Engineer them!? She didn't give birth to them!?"
"Good Lord, of course not! Giger was hired as artist and designer by this other guy, a fellow named Cameron, for this movie he wanted to make. Long story short, Giger created the first Xenomorphs; the rest is history. I'll fill you in once we're back at the station. Which reminds me: how'd you hear about this place?"
"I received a message from HQ. It contained a couple of holo displays, some pictures, and coordinates. No further explanation."
"They just told you to come here? No warnings, no explanations? Just like that?"
Ruxalkia nodded.
"Damn... and I thought
my species was full of jerks..."
"
Pardonnez-moi, Monsieur."
The human and Nereidian turned to a humanoid fellow bearing an oversized spike-lined composite maw, ochre skin layered with black spots. Summer sun reflecting on the top of the head, the creature, a male, from the looks of it, spoke with an underlying growl in otherwise flawless French. From what her translator picked up, Er'Thromos surmised this fellow was bringing his order to Smithers. Having whispered into the human's ear, the server made himself scarce.
"Who was that person?"
"Their name's Jean-Luc Merodat, a Yautja, born Jeanne-Lucille Merodat. They work here; they're just like me. We found one another at a particularly dark time in our lives, became friends and all that. Anyhow, they asked me to inquire whether you're free this afternoon."
"Free? Free from what?"
"They asked you out, Er'Thromos... on a date. They couldn't risk addressing you directly, so they turned to me. You don't have to say yes if you don't want to. They've always been a little too forward for their own good."
(
Translated from Standard Thalassian). "[{
At least I'll have something for tomorrow's holofeed}]. I see... thank you, Dr. Smithers."
"Anytime. Please call me Alex."
With that, the pair finished their lunch and carried on their way...

About The Winemaker: Josep Alvarez is a young man in the tiny grape-growing village of Santa Eulália, in northern Spain, where his father grows black grapes that are turned into cheap vinegar. Joseph loves the agricultural life, but he is the second son, and his father’s vineyard will be inherited by his brother Donat, the firstborn. He yearns for a job growing grapes and for an opportunity to marry Teresa Gallego. In Madrid, an assassination plot, conceived against the political leader of Spain by men of wealth and power, creates a storm of intrigue that sucks into its vortex a group of innocent young farm workers in Santa Eulália. How Josep’s life is changed drastically by these events, and how, ironically, they gradually turn him into an inspired vintner with an evolving vision of life, is the fascinating story of "The Winemaker". During the Book Club, enjoy four fantastic Spanish wines to taste. Chef Bryan will create a pairing board of house–made Spanish tapas, cheese and charcuterie to accompany the tasting. Reservations required.

2023.03.25 00:05 Milad04 Is this response to the error of Luke’s census reasonable?
This response claims that recent scholarship actually supports Luke’s census. Is this true? I’ve never heard this before. This explanation is from an apologetic source and not an academic one.
“Until recently, it has been widely held by critics that Luke made an error in his assertion about a registration under Caesar Augustus, and that the census actually took place in a.d. 6 or 7, (that is mentioned by Luke in Gamaliel’s speech recorded in Acts 5:37). The lack of any extra-biblical support has led some to claim this is an error. However, recent scholarship has reversed this trend, and it is now widely admitted that there was in fact an earlier registration as Luke records. This has been asserted on the basis of several factors.
First of all, since the people of a subjugated land were compelled to take an oath of allegiance to the emperor, it was not unusual for the emperor to require an imperial census as an expression of this allegiance and as a means of enlisting men for military service, or, as was probably true in this case, in preparation to levy taxes. Because of the strained relations between Herod and Augustus in the later years of Herod’s reign, as the Jewish historian Josephus reports, it is understandable that Augustus would begin to treat Herod’s domain as a subject land, and consequently would impose such a census to maintain control of Herod and the people. Second, periodic registrations of this sort took place on a regular basis every 14 years. According to the very papers that recorded the censuses, (see W.M. Ramsay, Was Christ Born in Bethlehem? 1898), there was in fact a census taken in about 8 or 7 b.c. Because of this regular pattern of census taking, any such action would naturally be regarded as a result of the general policy of Augustus, even though a local census may have been instigated by a local governor. Therefore, Luke recognizes the census as stemming from the decree of Augustus.
Third, a census was a massive project which probably took several years to complete. Such a census for the purpose of taxation was begun in Gaul between 10–9 b.c. that took a period of 40 years to complete. It is quite likely that the decree to begin the census, in about 8 or 7 b.c., may not have actually begun in Palestine until some time later. Problems of organization and preparation may have delayed the actual census until 5 b.c. or even later.
Fourth, it was not an unusual requirement that people return to the place of their origin, or to the place where they owned property. A decree of C. Vibius Mazimus in a.d. 104 required all those who were away from their home towns to return there for the purpose of the census. For the Jews, such travel would not have been unusual at all since they were quite used to the annual pilgrimage to Jerusalem. There is simply no reason to suspect Luke’s statement regarding the census at the time of Jesus’ birth. Luke’s account fits the regular pattern of census taking, and its date would not be an unreasonable one. Also, this may have been simply a local census that was taken as a result of the general policy of Augustus. Luke simply provides us with a reliable historical record of an event not otherwise recorded. Since Dr. Luke has proven himself to be a reliable historian in other matters (see Sir William Ramsey, St. Paul the Traveler and Roman Citizen, 1896), there is no reason to doubt him here (see also comments on Luke 2:2).”

2023.03.24 23:37 NAKEDnick VR trackers for (mostly) stationary objects
Let’s do the ol’ TL;DR first: I’m looking for thoughts/recommendations for VR trackers to mount to something stationary, like a chair.
Now for the meat and taters: Alright, so I recently built out a flight simpit and wanted to also make it good for VR use. I’ve been playing around with Reality Mixer and have been able to decently bring visibility of my outside control panels into the VR space. It actually works pretty darn well.
The challenge I’m facing is that the simpit itself is on the opposite side of the room from my PC, so I’m at the maximum length of my cable and it puts me at just the right angle to obscure the view of the headset from the base stations.
Now luckily I built my simpit in a way that the displays are completely detached from the main cockpit seat and controls, so my plan is to slide the pit out into the center of the room when I want to do VR, and slot it back in the panel rack for normal use.
Now this is where things get a little murky. Reality Mixer is currently setup with the X-RAY viewports in static locations. This means I have to correct the viewports each time I use it, but also make sure it doesn’t get enabled when I’m playing other VR games.
Luckily, RM supports using trackers to bind the XR windows to a physical object in the real world. So I can just hard mount a tracker to the pit and tie the XR windows to it. Now generally the simplest answer is usually the right answer and in this case it’s using the Vice trackers.
But this is a DIY subreddit, and I’m curious about options for trackers that aren’t geared for being the smallest, lightest, wearables, but rather something that can be biggecumbersome and just hardwired directly into USB for power and communication.
I’ve been scouring the web, and really all I ever find for object trackers is geared at wearable body tracking. Anyone here have some information you might be able to throw my direction?

2023.03.24 23:30 KelpTheGreat Kinda confused about plot/NPC weirdness, little help?
Note: This is a long, wordy post, which I expect will make a lot of people go "TL;DR" and move on, but I do ask some genuine questions and I will appreciate some genuine answers from anyone who takes the time to read all this. =D
So, I've been playing PoE on and off for basically its entire existence. Mostly off, though - I'll not touch it for months to a year at a time, then dive right back in and check out what's new. I'm moderately casual, and only ever did a little bit of the endgame content. Also, I'm someone who really enjoys following plots in games in general, and I've always found PoE's plot and setting and lore to be really interesting. Now, I've never had trouble picking up what's going on before, no matter when I happened to pick the game back up, and no matter what character I used... until now.
The last time I played a character through the entire campaign was when The Fall of Oriath came out. I remember the epilogue taking place in Oriath, after everything's been cleaned up and the people start to recover. You're introduced to Kirac and the Atlas and stuff at that point. I've also jumped in to other leagues in the past, and met Cassia and Tane before, and IIRC had them both in my hideout (or maybe just Tane's Laboratory, don't recall specifically but it probably doesn't matter). I also did a tiny bit of the Heist league, just enough to unlock the Rogue Harbor and its NPCs.
Now I've just completed the campaign again on a different character, and some things are weird. The character in question I actually created years ago, but only played him through the first act and first half of the second act. That might be relevant, I'm not sure. What's definitely relevant is that it's weird how the game handles stuff that's unlocked across all characters, and how specific characters interact with those unlocks. So here are my questions:
First of all, when playing through acts 8-10, I started to pick up heist contracts that gave me a quest to talk to a specific Rogue. I hadn't actually ever met any of the Rogues on this character, so I thought this was odd; at least with Einhar, Niko, Alva, etc. you meet them in an act town on each character, even if you've already had contact with them with another character. Even though in my hideout I already had Alva, she still introduced herself and gave this character a quest upon arriving in act 7, for example. So for the Rogues, when would you ordinarily encounter them for the first time, if you were through the campaign on a brand new account? (Side note, I forgot you had to use a marker to open a portal to the Harbor and couldn't just jump there via a waypoint; those contracts sat in my inventory as unremovable quest items for quite some time before I remembered, lol)
Second, I noticed that poor Navali is standing around in my hideout, being totally un-interactable. According to the wiki, she was removed at some point, more's the pity, but at least she's still decorating up my place a little. But Zana, whom I rescued from the Atlas on a different character years ago, is also un-interactable, and the wiki indicates that she's still alive and kicking. Every other Master I could talk to in my hideout on this character, before actually meeting them in the acts where they first show up; is Zana just a weird exception to this? Do I have to rescue her again on this character to restore her functionality?
Third, I just arrived in the epilogue, which is now totally different from the last epilogue. I rather liked the old epilogue, but I suppose that's the nature of live-service games for you. But in talking with Helena and Kirac, I pieced together that there was a plot reason for this, it wasn't an outright replacement/retcon - Oriath was restored after the victory over Kitava, but then attacked by some Sirus character, and everyone abandoned the place to shelter in Ngamakanui. Helena treats my character as if he's been sunning himself on the beach while this was all going down, which raises some questions about the timeline. Presumably, players who were playing actively during whichever league it was when Sirus was the antagonist (I guess I could look it up, but I'm not bothering to right now for whatever reason) got to fight against him, right? There would have been a state of the game where everyone was still on the Oriath epilogue, traversing the Atlas, fighting Sirus. He gets defeated, but not before destroying Oriath. The survivors go stay with the Karui, and everyone's epilogues got updated. So... in regards to the NPC dialogue... how do they talk to your character about it? Does Helena still have the "while you were gone" lines? Are characters who actually killed Sirus treated the same way as characters who just now made it to the epilogue for the first time? And how is/was that tracked? On this character, I created him well before TFoO, but never got to the epilogue, and I have another couple characters who got to the old epilogue and did some mapping, but never beat Sirus; will they also be treated as if they've been away from Oriath for a whole year, even though there was a point where they were relaxing in post-Kitava Oriath?
Fourth and finally, there's some weirdness with NPCs in the epilogue. Many of the NPCs talk about Tane, but he's not there, and I can't teleport to his laboratory via waypoints. The game is treating my character as if he both has and hasn't yet met Tane, at the same time. He's also not in my hideout. Neither is Cassia; she at least is in the epilogue town, but she is introduced to my character as if they've never met before, and that's the only line of dialogue she has. The other NPCs don't comment on her. She doesn't have any other comments, herself. So she's somewhat inverted from Tane, where she exists but no-one acknowledges it, and Tane doesn't exist but everyone acknowledges him. What in the world is going on with this?

2023.03.24 23:12 ThrowRA41054 I just found out my (33m) gf (40f) was sexting with another guy all night during one of our first dates and the night of our first kiss + following weeks. I’m devastated.
We’ve been together for a little over a year. We consider our anniversary the night of our first kiss. We were coworkers that fell in love. We no longer work together.
This morning she left for work and I went into her old work phone. Yes, I invaded her privacy. I was suspicious about some interactions with a past coworker and I needed to see for myself. Not proud of it, but I can admit I did it.
What I saw was devastating. I went into her messages with one of the guys I was curious about. It went back a long time. Shortly before we started dating, she apparently went to happy hour with another coworker, we can call him Joe. She and Joe apparently went out, got drunk, and hooked up in his car. There were messages about needing to get panties the next morning, lost an earring, etc.. It was few weeks before we were together though, so I thought OK that’s fine.
But then I kept scrolling and saw that on our anniversary, as in, the night we first kissed and really fell for each other supposedly, she was talking to him.
When I read the messages, my heart sank. “I wish I was with you” “Can’t stop thinking about you” “omg I’m drunk I need you, I want you” it got explicit ….. “I’m heading home soon, I want your [x] in my mouth” “I’m home, I’m going to pleasure myself to the thought of you”…
I’m broken. We were together the entire night at dinner and drinks, and from 6pm to 1:30am, she was texting him behind my back while sitting right next to me. She then called him on the way home, while I was trying to call her. She said that night she was on the phone with a friend but now I know it was him.
I saw that they continued to talk, as were we. I had no indication she was talking to anyone else. She was saying the same things to both of us - she had a work trip coming up and told him to join. She invited me to the same trip, and I actually did go. She would text him to say she was thinking about him while she was at other dates with me.
So basically, I’m finding out today that essentially all of our first dates and time spent together, talking, flirting, sexting, etc., she was sexting and flirting with another guy who also worked with us. I had no idea this was going on. We were in contact literally all day every day.
She has messages to him weeks later asking for him to call her, telling him his voice is so soothing, etc.
Ultimately, they stopped chatting after several weeks, and we continued our relationship. It’s now been a year and I just learned all of this. I asked her about their relationship in the past and she said they kissed once and then never really spoke, but it was before us. That was a lie. She had been flirting with him behind my back, and even right in front of me when we were together.
I confronted her this morning via text and she says she has nothing to say and feels terrible, and deserves to be dumped for it.
I even called Joe to vent. We’re buddies - he didn’t know about us then. We were kind of a secret due to being coworkers. He was cool about everything and I don’t hold anything against him. He swears they never had sex and I believe him, he said he tried (drunk) and he’d tell me but didn’t. He did say they made out that one time before us, but nothing physical after. He said she was just flirting and aggressively sexting with him for several weeks after that - weeks that aligned with the first 3 l months of our relationship, from dating to being exclusive to saying I love you.
I’m super sad. I’ve spent nearly every day for a year with this woman and now I’m seeing that the day I held so special in my heart as our anniversary was actually a night that she was actively sexting another man in front of me. She says she didn’t know we’d be together or fall in love, but the sheer disrespect of what she did that night and the following weeks is killing me. I don’t know what to do. She’s out of town right now for work and I don’t know what direction to go. I love her, but she was straight up telling another guy she wanted him when she was sitting right next to me.
Tl;Dr: My girlfriend of over a year was sexting another man and flirting with him, telling him she wanted to have sex with him, craving him, etc while she was on dates with me. It was before we were exclusive, but I feel super disrespected and my confidence is shattered.

2023.03.24 23:02 MeepTheChangeling Making a Fallout 2d20 game in an alt timeline, could use some help.
Hello, I'll keep this brief. I've been asked to run a fallout game by my gaming group, but they want a game in an AU where their characters decisions from the videogames happened. I agreed, under the stipulation that everyone pick one game, one ending from it, and dictate what their character did with the rest of their life.
Between everyone, we've got every fallout game covered except New Vegas. Now, I'm an older gal, but Interplay's Fallout games were a long long time ago in a town far far away for me. I'd like some help brushing up this timeline. Preferably by someone who isn't a part of my group just to get some different perspectives. See, the thing about picking endings is everything that comes after that game can change... I want to make sure that everything I've done is logical.
For this AU the events of Fallout, Fallout 2, Tactics, 3, New Vegas, and 4 occur. Some of 76's background elements can happen no problem (Huntington's mutants for example) but uh... Skyrim dragons do not belong here. As for Fallout: BoS, that game can and should go die in a tire fire so it's 100% non-existent.
----
Fallout 1: Cathedral destroyed super mutants flee east. Necropolis' water pump is fixed, the Followers take the Boneyard, Tandi leads the NCR (Player post-game idea: the Vault Dweller becomes the NCR's personal hero / brute squad), Junktown becomes a trading center and resort thanks to Gizmo, Rhombus retains leadership of the BoS (Player post-game idea: NCR manages to fully integrate them as a major branch of their military), the Hub prospers, Kahns are wiped out / driven off, Vault Dweller spares the Overseer.
As the foundation this dosn't change too much, but given the baseline canon ending has the BoS help out the NCR a bit and give them some tech it's not a stretch to assume if the Vault Dweller stuck around with the NCR, as a person both factions highly respected, they could convince the two sides to join forces formally. We're moving ahead under the assumption the NCR has the BoS as part of their nation and as an equivalent to their Marine corps.
Inorder for Fallout 2 to happen, some time after serving as the NCR's go-to guy, the Vault Dweller retired and founds Arroyo.
Tactics: (Player post-game idea: The Warrior sacrifices themselves personalty to repair the Calculator rather than any other squad member. Dosnt' change the ending, but noble and shit.) In essence, all of the nation-scale problems in the mid-west are solved by the now properly functioning pre-war supercomputer. No longer mistaking wasters for Chinese troops, it fires off its terraformer and retasks its robots to helping people. The Mid-West chapter of the BoS join it (since it is now controlled by one of their own) and the mid-west becomes a major super power.
This is a big one. Basically all of Colorado is ecologically FINE post-tactics if you get the good ending. Healthy plant life dosnt just stick in one spot, it spreads. Quickly. This vastly accelerates the recovery time of America. In canon it's believed the US will be largely habitable again by 2377. This would push that to 2250. It wouldn't take care of the rads, but plants and animals would be abundant once more, making for more food... for humans, mutants, and monsters. IE this just makes the world greener and more deadly since now there's way more prey for predators which, ya know, makes populations boom.
Fallout 2: (Player post-game idea: The Intelligent Deathclaws are saved, the Arroyo survivors are integrated with them in Vault 13. the GECK is used there instead, making a second Vault City. As per the cut-ending for this outcome, the Desert Rangers begin having deathclaws join their ranks.), there is peace between Modoc and the Slags, the Den becomes a major slaver hub, Vault City joins the NCR, Bishops take control of New Reno and joins the NCR, Gecko is enslaved, Redding annexed by Vault City (and consequently taken into the NCR), Broken Hills is saved (Player idea: The uranium mine doesn't run out any time soon, so Marcus and co remain there through the events of Fallout 3), the NCR becomes a major power in the West Coast (Given their BoS partnership, they become a proper superpower in wasteland terms once Vault City is obtained), Vault 15 is purged and claimed by the NCR as a military base, the Shi flourish.
This makes the NCR into a major superpower, able to begin manufacturing most things it could want. This has drastic consequences for New Vegas' storyline as the Legion is no match for an NCR that can deploy large numbers of power armored troops and would be 100% needing the water from the dam due to its now quite large population. Thus the legion element of the New Vegas story would simply not happen (Primitive tribals who refuse to use technology do not win a battle at a narrow choke point against tech 2000 years more advanced than what they have. Yes, yes, yes, Rorke's Drift happened, but that was 10,000 spears vs 500 cloth covered dudes with single-shot breach loaders in a mostly open area. Not maybe 3,000 spears vs 500 power armors and Gatling lasers at a choke point.) We can assume that most of California and a good chunk of the west coast falls to the NCR and becomes a place that's not shitty to live in by the time of Fallout NV.
New Vegas: Can't happen as it does in the games at this point. The NCR would have taken the Mojave much sooner simply to get access to the Hoover Dam, which thanks to Tactics would be attached to a mostly full of pure-water Lake Mead. So it's not just hydro-electric power at stake here but also clean drinking water, which the NCR would need a LOT of. The main focus of NV would need to be the platinum chip, Mr. House, and him trying to gain independence for the Strip from a major wasteland superpower. Powerful as securitrons are... I don't see them being that effective vs the NCR with brotherhood assistance, especially since the NCR either wouldn't have come into conflict with the Mojave chapter at all, or have quickly purged them, since the original BoS is with the NCR. But maybe House pulls it off? He is a genius, and he would have the Courier with him, who without the Legion-NCR war probably never got shot by Benny, likely delivered the chip on time, was probably quickly found by Ulysses, and might want to help House out of guilt for blowing up the divide after they learn about that.
Fallout 3: The Lone Wanderer adds the FEV to Project Purity and Raven Rock is not destroyed, (Player and DM idea: Fawkes turns Project Purity on without protest because he's not an asshole and doesn't want his friend to fucking die.), the not-Necronomicon is never retrieved from Cult Lady because the LW doesn't want to go to Dueling Banjos land, (Player post-game idea: Mothership Zeta is damaged during the fight with the other mothership. LW wins the fight, but MZ is going down. It crashes in the northern part of the Capital Wasteland, destroying most of it because, you know, basically a meteorite strike. The survivors claim the wreck as a new city, but exhile LW after hearing they are responsible for the crash. the BoS take the LW in as a formal member, then take over the new Zeta City to keep the advanced tech out of waster hands.)
Oh boy this needs all kinds of tweaks... There wouldn't be BoS Outcasts. Elder Lyon's ideals are what the main chapter of the BoS would have due to their NCR alliance. If anything, all the advanced toys and military hardware in the capitol would likely have the BoS go rogue to get back to pre-NCR ways... while remaining loyal and explaining the zone was anarchy incarnate and there was a potential for some local warlord to find a "Fire the second wave of nukes!" button. Hence, the BoS would likely be doing all they could to hoard tech... on top of assuming the Master was back and active in the area... somehow. Seriously, Bethesda, the BoS know what super mutants are and who made them. They wouldn't have forgotten Fallout 1 and would likly assume the Master SOMEHOW came back since he was a horrifying blob mutant that merged with machinery and, you know, brains in jars and sapient computers exist in this world.
With Raven Rock not destroyed, the Enclave keeps existing. GM idea, the Enclave makes a power play and takes control of both Zeta City and the East Coast BoS, because they are lead by a ZAX-mainframe based AI and humans just don't get to out-play the plans of something that intelligent... Especially when all it wants is for them to join a quite similar faction for the good of the people. Which means Fallout 4's BoS is realy the Enclave with a new coat of paint pretending they don't exist, as they are want to do but now having the ability to deploy power armored forces overtly without blowing their veil of secrecy.
Fallout 4: As per Player request, this is nothing like the canon game: The Soul Survivor was a synth recreation of Shawn's mother... who was lesbian married to a gay guy so they could cover for each other and thus NOT be found out and vanished to be used for something like the Robobrain project. Their kid was adopted, so the SS isn't very attached to Shawn having only had him for a few weeks and only remembering the cliff notes of her pre-war life. Hence, she kind of forgets they existed and just builds a fuckton of towns (Lets be honest... that's how most of us played F4). Then raiders attack one of her towns. So she kills them all. Like, all of them all of them. After becoming the defacto Queen of the Commonwealth she's approached by Shawn for his whole plan (he has no idea she doesn't give a SHIT about him and believed she assumed he was dead). The SS agrees to join with the institute because having AC is infinitely better than NOT having AC and in her opinion all of these wasteland leaders are idiots and deserved getting replaced. This lines up with the BoS (or rather stealthed Enclave) arriving, a war is had, the BoS mostly looses bot retains control over the southern half of the Commonwealth because they have a Giant Robot and the SS does not, the SS becomes the Director but Shawn lives because she jabs him with Curie's cure because... she didn't give a shit about that 12 year old. the SS, being a Synth is actually immortal (that's canon. G3 Synths don't age.) and thus becomes the Forever Queen who... mostly just makes her towns nicer and nicer with institute tech and gets into border wars with the not-Enclave.
---
I'd love general feedback on this. Especially small details I could have overlooked and anything major that's just nonsense. Our game will be about 20 years after Fallout 4 so this is meant to give me an idea of what the world is like before I build a Texas Wasteland.

2023.03.24 22:56 ThrowRARedWheel I (28 F) overstated my trauma with a guy (29 M) and he is now coming to visit????? Why???
I get it that we have all of our trauma, faults and scars, but I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this one.
I met a guy through my hometown. He was a recipient of my kindness project.
As we got to know one another, I was in a rough spot. This guy has watched me have a panic attack, he knows I have feelings for him and that I was raped a few years ago.
All within 3 months I told him this.
He told me recently he wanted to come visit me & I thought it was nice, but didn’t really take it seriously because I’d been hurt so bad in the past.
He followed through on his word & will be coming to play in my town in a few months. He’s a coach.
My mental health was BAD. I was BAD. Why?? I get being kind and offering support, but flying 600 miles to see me?

2023.03.24 22:44 its-niggly-wiggly Dealing with Nmom after my brother's death. TW: Suicide
Sorry in advance for the novel.
I (27m) have been NC from my Nmom for nearly 2 years. Until Monday.
My youngest brother (17) texted me to say that he didn't need a ride to school that morning as he wasn't feeling well. I texted him back, telling him to drink plenty of fluids and take things easy as that would help. He said he would. And that was the last thing he said to me.
Sometime between that message and 3pm, he had fed his cat, gone into my Nmom's room and grabbed her gun, locked the front door behind him, walked two apartment buildings over and shot himself.
My middle brother (24) found his body using geo-location data from his Snapchat.
I arrived around 4pm and the situation was beyond my comprehension. Police, firefighters, and paramedics all around. Nmom sat at the base of the stairs to her apartment in a state of incomparable grief. Against my better interests, I walked over to console her.
After being questioned by police and detectives, I informed them of the strained relationships my youngest brother and I had with Nmom (constsnt alcohol abuse, emotional and psychological abuse, constant attention-seeking, minimizing our pain in response to our father's death only 3 years ago; the list goes on). I told one that I hadn't seen or spoken to Nmom in over 2 years.
Their response was to say "in spite of your issues with your mother, she needs you, and you need to be here for her".
Once again, against my better judgment I obliged. My wife, middle brother, and myself spent the rest of the evening there to comfort and distract her. We played card games and drank quite heavily.
Middle brother had to be taken home early by my wife because he got sick, and Nmom refused to allow me to leave. Fine, I thought, how bad can it be?
Well, in between her chain smoking and pounding 3x my beer intake, she went further to minimize my grief: "You could never understand how this feels"; "I lost my son, he may have been your brother, but he was my son"; "I can't believe this is happening to me".
When I tried to calm her down by saying that it will all be okay, it will just take time, she rebuffed me. When I told her we just have to breathe, and be calm, she said I just didn't understand because I've never lost anyone (conveniently ignoring my father's death, for which I maintain she shares a significant portion of blame).
This continued until 2am, when she said she needed someone to stay the night with her so she didn't have to be alone. I told her my wife and I would take my youngest brother's cat (who she hates with a fiery passion) back to our place, and that I'd come back.
Once I made it home my blood pressure was sky-high, I was angry and felt manipulated because I hadn't even had a moment to myself to contemplate the situation; I hadn't even begun to handle my own grief while I was in her presence because everything was about how hard this was for her. I couldn't do another minute, much less an entire night.
I told her that I'd had too much to drink and had also began throwing up, and that I'd be by on Tuesday.
And now that I had opened communication by being there for her, I have also felt things revert to the way they were two years ago: non-stop calls to me, because my middle brother won't take her calls as often (for similar reasons to me, before this whole debacle).
She begged me to come to see his body, saying she couldn't do it alone. I simply couldn't handle it. I've seen enough death in my life that the thought of seeing the body of the brother I'd grown up with and raised when Nmom was too drunk to function, lying on a cold morgue table... it was and is too much to bear. And to make the 1.5hr drive back to our small town with her in the car bawling and going on about her pain, never once asking about my own...
I couldn't do it.
My grandfather asked me to write his obituary - knowing that I have a passion for writing. Without warning, but after having heard that I was going to be doing so, Nmom took it upon herself to write the obituary, taking away my opportunity to even critique it. This obituary, in contrast to the one which I had sketched out a rough draft of, conveniently left out any reference to our father - a man who my mother had come to loathe toward the end of their marriage, and consistently bad-mouthed to me and my siblings.
As this shift in her back to the ever-present, attention-seeking Nmom I knew for 25 years has returned, I feel the same anger, frustration, anxiety and pain coming back. I'm on the edge of panic attacks at the thought of her calling me - a now more-consistent event than when I cut contact in 2021. After any conversation I revert to my tried-and-true method of dealing with this unbearable anger: hitting myself across the head, arms and chest as hard as I can.
I'm struggling with this heavily. I feel like I'm losing my mind as well as my agency. She wants me to be her lap-dog, therapist, friend, confidant, placeholder-husband and anything other than her deeply-grieving son, because she is the only one who's allowed to grieve. I'm her shoulder to cry on, and nothing more.
Idk if I'm looking for advice or just to vent, but I would love to hear from anyone who has experienced similar treatment after the death of a loved one.
TL;DR: after losing my youngest brother, I had to break NC with my Nmom. She now has undone all the work I've done to fix my mental health in the matter of days, and I don't know how to deal with it.

2023.03.24 22:41 bachtheprofessional [Letter]
Dear Dr. Jordan!
My name is Bach. I am from Vietnam. Thank you for the online lectures! They are practical yet profound, and I have improved my life from them.
I have a question that just popped up in my head recently about Christianity. I do believe in God, that He is the ultra most powerful force there is, and He made Jesus for our sins. However, as powerful as God is, I believe there are more intelligent species out there in the universe, are they sinless or do they have their own Jesuses? Or if we believe in Christ, are we presuming that we’re the ones that God love the most, the center of the universe? I do think that Jesus is the bridge to God because how else can mere humans can get to Him.
Thank you for reading!
P.s.: I have only read 1/3 of the Bible so far.
P.s.s.: This letter is not really a question, just my thought.

2023.03.24 22:36 ArtifartX Multiple higher-end GPU passthrough to different VM's possible?
Hello, I have been planning a TrueNAS Scale build centered on having multiple higher end GPU's (probably starting with a couple 3090's) installed into the TrueNAS system, and then setting up some VM's that use them directly via passthrough (so each VM would have full control over a single GPU).
I know passthrough is possible, but I have not seen posts talking about doing it with
multiple GPU's/VM's (Edit, found a video where a guy is able to use lots of GPU's in it, and solves a lot of issues
here, but highest GPU was a 3060). Also, I saw this question posted recently to the TrueNAS forums where someone is reporting that the higher end GPU's do not work with passthrough at all,
here. I guess the TL;DR questions are:
- Are any of you successfully using a higher end GPU with PCIe passthrough to a VM (3080+ or 40xx series)?
- Are any of you using several GPU's with passthrough to several VM's (any GPU's, just more than 1)?

2023.03.24 22:33 Ornery_Art_7336 Battle of Smolensk 8 July - 10 September 1941 (Future Eastern Front Map for HLL???)
What are your opinions on another inner city urban warfare eastern front map? The battle of Smolensk in the summer of 1941 was one of the most notorious, biggest and bloodiest battles of Operation Barbarossa (The german lost about 115000 soldiers, as the soviets had a total loss of more than 700000 soldiers). It the begining it was fought in the outskirts. The german Wehrmacht encirceled the soviet troops in the town and the final battle took place in the city center! There are a lot of actual WW2 maps, pictures and documents about this battle so the HLL Devs would have more than enough material to re-create this map and battle. submitted by Ornery_Art_7336 to HellLetLoose [link] [comments]
2023.03.24 22:19 SeawardFriend AITA for trying to bail on sledding in -30°F weather?
I know this isn’t the right sub, but I’m unable to post to
AITA so this is my next best place to post.
So my 3 friends (All 20M) and I (Also 20M) like to go sledding every winter at our local park. I wouldn’t call it tradition but we have gone every year since high school so it’s pretty close to that. Anyways, 2 of those friends moved states for college, but were in town for the holidays and wanted to sled all week.
My mental health was pretty awful at the time and going outside in the snow was the last thing on my bucket list, but since I don’t see my friends often, I told them I’d come out on the Thursday before they left. My mistake here was not checking the weather, and it ended up becoming -30°F with the wind chill that day.
I’ve noticed that this particular group of friends likes to make impromptu decisions without thinking at times and this was definitely one of them. I personally prefer to look 3 times before I leap and seeing how the roads were terrible and I had a 45 minute drive to the sled hill, it was the coldest day of the winter, and I had work real early the next morning, I figured I’d have a solid excuse to why I didn’t want to show up.
Well my friends didn’t take it very well when I notified the group chat and started calling me out for not coming out all week. Afterwards, they were basically trash taking and trying to make me feel like shit for not wanting to come as well as peer pressuring me because I like driving and shouldn’t have a problem getting there.
Like I said, my mental health was not on par that week so I felt like total shit and ended up caving to the pressure. I made the drive, ending up there before half my friends, even after stopping at my parents house to get my snow gear. Here’s the kicker: after all the BS, my friends were only sledding for 10 minutes before one wanted to go in to warm up. Yeah, I didn’t let that happen and we ended up staying out for around 45 minutes before calling it and getting food.
TL;DR: I told some friends I’d go sledding without checking the weather. Ended up being way too cold and dangerous so I tried bailing. Got peer pressured and went anyways only for friends to want to call it after 10 minutes.

2023.03.24 21:57 Run4theRoses2 IDMC analysis upon Enrollment Completion in Q2 and Likely halt due to overwhelming Efficacy - How long is too long to wait for a 5,000% ROI?
I believe the IDMC will be halting the REGAL Trial Due to Overwhelming Efficacy in the GPS ARM I Believe Dr. Levy the Director of Hematological Research at Baylor Med, understands the AML environment and Knows what he is talking about. He says BAT offers only 6 months of OS. I Believe Dr. Jamy when he says his patients, in the REGAL trial on BAT have an Os of 6-8 months. The IDMC will be conducting a PresSpecified Analysis upon enrollment completion and will see at least 6 more months of overall survival data --- The IDMC are charter bound to halt the trial if they see statistical efficacy and I Believe they are. All pooled patients have an OS of 16 months vs BAT w os of 6-8 months. This is in line with the Moffitt Center phase 2 trial which was highly statistically significant with a p value of .02 ie 98% reproducibility. Still as an exercise: The current Est Unblinding is set for 'late 23/earl 24' - which is presumably as early as Oct, or in 7 months \ - In the months approaching, I expect SLS share price to increase massively to reflect the $4B TAM potential revenue. Long Investors already will be moving into position. 0- 7 months is not a long time to wait for a Possible 5,000% ROI. As for GPs Market Size - 10,000 AML Patients in Secondary Remission Cr2. Another 15,000 in CR1 each year. Estimates of 60,000 Patients CURRENTLY in AML REMISSION out of the Gate, plus 7,500 MDS patients are now eligible each year based on revised WHO guidance. Basic Math: Just the First 10,000 at 200K per patient per year is a $2B TAM https://lifescievents.com/event/sellas-life-sciences-kol-event/ https://preview.redd.it/eejy5b2t1rpa1.png?width=2940&format=png&auto=webp&s=de5ffad24bbfd4cea08dc75f9d7ad7beb8c83340 https://preview.redd.it/f5b3slixzqpa1.png?width=1322&format=png&auto=webp&s=e142168a1354e508773aa2fcc775c568e5a1944d submitted by Run4theRoses2 to sellaslifesciences [link] [comments]
