Refused limit increase but given new card?

2023.03.30 19:13 kittygoespew Refused limit increase but given new card?

Long story short im rebuilding my credit, i have quite a few low limit cards & was doing good w/keeping balances low ect til the last few months when i kinda ran them up, tho im paying them back down now.
I applied for a credit limit increase on the first card i ever got, First Premiere. My beginning limit was 400.
Two weeks ago i asked for an increase; a week ago i got a letter saying no, your balances are too high ect.
Then a couple days ago i log in the First Premiere app and see a notice asking me if i want to apply for a 2nd card, something that never popped up before. I do, thinking i'll be denied of course bc i couldnt get my limit raised-
& they gave me a new card w/a $700 limit.
I dont get it 😸 my credits too bad for an increase but not too bad for a new card?

2023.03.30 19:12 ll--o--ll Does batting or bowling win the IPL? Cricbuzz

Does batting or bowling win the IPL? Cricbuzz
There is a statement that has acquired cult status, especially on the T20 circuit, over the years: 'Batters win you matches. Bowlers win you tournaments.' But how true is this? In the first 15 seasons of the IPL, we have seen franchises build teams with a balance weighing towards one side or the other depending on a multitude of factors such as their home venue, style of captaincy and resource availability.
As the 16th edition looms on the horizon, it is a good time to revisit the data from the past and see if the statement is just a subjective conclusion that has led to a sweeping generalization, or whether it actually holds water. A deep look at the numbers shows whether one discipline is actually more important than the other, but also reveals the most complete championship[1]winning side thus far, who was the standout franchise over the first 15 years, and how to succeed at a batting-friendly venue like the Chinnaswamy.
Methodology
A batting impact score is therefore derived by combining the run rate and balls per dismissal (RR x BpD/100), and similarly the formula for bowling impact score is the combination of economy rate and strike rate (ER x S100). To figure out a team's total impact score for a season, we compare their batting and bowling impact scores with the average of the other teams in the tournament.
For example, Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022 scored 8.72 runs per over and lost a wicket every 20.88 balls, whereas the other nine teams cumulatively scored at 8.52 and lost a wicket every 18.57 deliveries. This gives the Royals a batting impact score of 1.82 (8.72 x 20.88 divided by 100 = 1.82) compared to the tournament average of 1.58, meaning their net batting impact score was +0.24.
Likewise, they conceded at 8.51 per over and took a wicket every 19.19 balls in comparison to 8.54 and 18.76 by the other teams. This works out to a bowling impact score of 1.63 for the Royals, while the remaining nine sides managed 1.60. The net bowling value for the Royals is therefore -0.03, and their total impact score for IPL 2022 is +0.21 (+0.24 - 0.03).

'Batters win you matches and bowlers win you tournaments.' But do they?

Let's start by looking at the broader trend.
There are 126 instances of teams featuring across the 15 editions of IPL (Mumbai Indians for IPL 2008 is considered one instance, while their appearance in 2009 is considered another). Among those 126 instances, there have been 39 occasions that teams have finished with both batting and bowling impact scores in the green. The average final ranking for these sides is 2.7, which falls within the playoff qualification bracket (the top four sides qualify for the knockouts in IPL). In 27 instances teams have finished with a positive batting impact score and negative bowling impact score, and these sides on average have a ranking of 5.1.
On the other hand, of the 25 times teams finished with a negative batting impact score and positive bowling impact score, they had a marginal improvement in average ranking to 4.8. From the data analyzed above, it is safe to conclude that going bowling heavy at the expense of batting will not pay dividends and the sides that have done the best are the one that found the right balance, even if it is slightly tilted towards the bowling. If we look at individual cases, the above adage was perhaps put to its sternest test in 2018.
In general, across all T20 cricket, 2018 was the best batting year and the story was no different in IPL with scoring rates peaking at 8.65. CSK were the best batting team of the tournament with a batting impact score of +0.59, well ahead of the next placed Delhi Capitals (+0.24), while SRH was one of the two teams that ended with a positive bowling impact score. SRH successfully defended totals of under 150 thrice in the season and regularly restricted oppositions to par totals or below.
The two sides faced off against each other four times with CSK coming out on top on every occasion, including the final where they upstaged SRH's bowling by chasing 179 to win by eight wickets. In 13 matches against teams other than CSK that season, SRH went at 7.92 and picked a wicket every 17.18 balls, but they came undone against CSK with the same parameters reading 8.91 and 30.67 respectively from four exchanges.
CSK's batting impact score of +0.59 in 2018 was the best among all the teams that won IPL and they were one of only two trophy[1]winning sides to register a negative bowling impact score (MI in 2015 being the only other side). In this case, batting trumped bowling.

SRH bowling vs CSK batting in 2018

Another instance of this hypothesis being put through the acid test was in the 2015 final. This was the only instance of a final being played between a team with a positive bowling impact score and a negative batting impact score, and an opponent with scores the other way around. CSK, the league toppers, finished with impact scores of -0.04 and +0.27 in batting and bowling respectively.
Their opponents in the final - MI - were the best batting unit of the season with an impact score of +0.35, double the next best, while in bowling their score was -0.11. MI were 0.39 points ahead of CSK in batting and 0.38 points behind CSK in bowling making it the most batting vs bowling heavy sides in terms of impact scores facing each other in a summit clash. MI made 202/5 batting first and got the better of CSK, restricting them to 161 to make it 3-1 in head-to-head clashes in the season. So once again we saw batting strength getting the better of bowling strength.

The bowling heavy sides that went all the way

If the above suggests that it is batting that clinches trophies, let's look at some bowling teams that went all the way. In 2019, CSK were a hit away from clinching the title. The IPL returned to Chennai for a full season for the first time in a while and the tracks on offer at Chepauk slowed down significantly as the match progressed, which meant spin was the order of the day.
CSK realized this early and were aided in their pursuit by the fact they won six tosses out of eight home games. Luck factor aside, CSK on average bowled 15 balls of spin every innings more than their visitors, which proved to be the clincher. Imran Tahir was the Purple Cap winner that year with 26 scalps, while Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja played the supporting cast to perfection. Deepak Chahar and Dwayne Bravo capped off the attack, owning either ends of the innings.
Each of CSK's top four leading wicket takers picked 15+ wickets at economy rates under 7.50 per over, covering up for what was one of CSK's weakest seasons with the bat. Two bowling dominant sides that went on to lift the silverware are Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural IPL and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012, both with a bowling impact score of +0.28. Royals in 2008 had three of the four highest wicket takers (Sohail Tanvir, Shane Warne & Shane Watson) of the season, and a strong bowling attack was the backbone of their success at their bowling-friendly home in Jaipur, where they did not lose a single game.
The story was similar for KKR in 2012, where Sunil Narine led the attack with 24 wickets at an economy rate of 5.48 and was backed up by bowlers who made full use of the Eden Gardens track. No other championship-winning side has had their total impact score significantly boosted by bowling impact like KKR in 2012 (bowling impact score of +0.25 to batting impact score of +0.03). SRH in 2016 is another title-winning team whose balance was more skewed to their bowling unit.
They remain an anomaly as the only champions who had a negative batting impact score (-0.06), despite a cracking season from their skipper David Warner who hit 848 runs. Bhuvneshwar was the Purple Cap winner with 23 wickets and formed a formidable pairing with Mustafizur Rahman, who finished with 17 wickets and played big hand for them throughout the season.

The most complete championship-winning side

It would be little surprise to anyone who has followed IPL diligently to hear which was the most rounded side that ever lifted the silverware. No other side dominated an IPL season as much as Mumbai Indians did in the 2020 edition.
They lost just five games in the season, two via Super Over and one when they rested most of their first choice players, underscoring their dominance. SRH in 2017 aside (more on them later), MI in 2020 is the only team that finished with a batting impact score above +0.50 and a bowling impact score above +0.25.
They had a strong batting order with three of their top four batters (Quinton de Kock, Ishan Kishan & Suryakumar Yadav) aggregating 480+ runs at 140+ strike rate, while both Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya provided the finishing touch to the innings striking at 175+. MI scored at 9.09 per over and lost a wicket every 24.41 balls - RCB in 2016 is the only other instance of a team managing the double of 9+ run rate and 22+ balls per dismissal.
Despite the obvious chinks in the bowling attack - like the lack of a genuine second overseas seamer and Hardik's inability to bowl - Jasprit Bumrah (27 wickets, SR 13.33) and Trent Boult (25 wickets, SR 13.76) controlled either half of the innings, which ensured that their bowling towered above the rest. MI on average were +1.15 runs ahead every over of the opposition (run rate of 9.09 and economy rate of 7.94), which was the best a team managed in a season.

The GOAT

Chennai Super Kings, with an average impact score of +0.41 across the 13 editions in which they competed, is the standout IPL side in the first 15 years of the competition's journey. CSK registered a positive impact score in 12 of the 13 seasons they featured in, missing out only in IPL 2022 - which also happens to be the only time both their batting and bowling impact scores were in negative territory Among the sides which have featured in at least three editions SRH is a territory. Among the sides which have featured in at least three editions, SRH is a distant second with an average impact score of +0.14, while MI is the only other side to register a net average impact score in positive territory (+0.09).
Of the top ten entries on total impact score across the 15 editions, CSK occupy as many as five of them, with three of those culminating in title wins (2011, 2018 & 2021). In all three title-winning seasons, they managed a +0.50 batting impact score while their bowling impact score in all of these seasons was below +0.10, underscoring how batting-dominant CSK have been in their successful years. CSK teams are renowned for having deep batting lineups and they often rely on skipper MS Dhoni's tactical acumen to ensure the bowling unit's output is greater than the sum of its parts.
The only exception to this trend was their maiden title win in 2010 where they achieved their lowest batting impact score (+0.25) and highest bowling impact score (+0.11) of their four title-winning seasons. They were staring at an early exit midway through the tournament with just two wins from seven matches but regrouped well in the second half to win five matches, four of them at their bastion at Chepauk, to stage a comeback that culminated in the double of IPL and CLT20 trophies.

Cracking the Chinnaswamy code
A common denominator for every T20 dynasty is the dominance at their home ground and a team built around the characteristics of it - for example the fast bouncy wickets at Perth for the Scorchers, or the Chepauk turner for Chennai Super Kings. The Chinnaswamy Stadium typically presents a flat wicket combined with short boundaries, negating the home team's ability to assemble a squad tailored to the venue and leaving them little home advantage.
Yet RCB seemed to crack the code when they realized it is futile to plan to defend runs, and a far better strategy to go hunting for wickets. The 2015 RCB bowling attack did this to perfection when four of their highest wicket takers (Yuzvendra Chahal, Mitchell Starc, Harshal Patel & David Wiese - all with 15+ wickets each) combined to take 76 wickets between them at a rate of one every 13.9 balls. RCB's strike rate of 15.10 in that season is the best any side had managed in a season and the blueprint was set.
In the following year, they followed the same strategy with changes in personnel around Chahal. Chahal broke the door to national team selection with a 21-wicket season (SR 14.05) and was assisted by Shane Watson (20 wickets, SR 16.95), Chris Jordan (11 wickets, SR 15.27) and Sreenath Aravind (11 wickets, SR 15.91). As mentioned below, they failed to grab the clutch moments in the final and fell at the last hurdle for the third time.
The Chinnaswamy wicket was re-laid in 2017 but RCB veered away from this approach in the following years, failing to qualify for the Play Offs for three consecutive seasons between 2017 and 2019. They haven't played at the venue in the post-Covid era, a phase in which they have leaned towards a strong bowling lineup - unlike the sides of the past which were heavily loaded towards batting. RCB did find some success with their new approach, making the Play Offs for three successive years since 2020. How RCB's fortunes will pan out as they return to their home at Chinnaswamy will be one of the stories to watch out for in the 2023 IPL.

The outliers

In the 126 instances of teams featuring in the IPL so far, only one team has managed a total impact score of over one point. To the surprise of many, the team in picture is SunRisers Hyderabad in 2017, who finished third in the league phase, winning eight of the 13 completed games. SRH lost a wicket every 26.32 balls, which happens to be the second best a team ever managed in a season(marginally behind Chennai Super Kings' 26.63 in 2014).
Bowling strike rate wise, their 16.36 deliveries per wicket was only bettered on two other instances, giving them a positive difference of almost ten balls for every wicket lost and every wicket taken - the highest any team has ever achieved in a season. SRH in 2017 had five batters aggregating over 200 runs, four of them averaging over 28 balls per dismissal, while four of them scored those runs at a 135+ strike rate.
David Warner won the Orange Cap for his 641 runs (SR 142, BpD 41) followed by Shikhar Dhawan (479 runs, SR 127, BpD 29), Moises Henriques (277 runs, SR 136, BpD 34), Kane Williamson (256 runs, SR 151, BpD 28) and Yuvraj Singh (252 runs, SR 142, BpD 20). SunRisers' run rate of 8.64 was the highest they ever managed in an IPL season, further underlining how good a season they had batting wise - in a phase where SRH were renowned for their bowling-heavy strategy under Tom Moody.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the bowling charts, winning Purple Cap for the second year running with an eye popping strike rate of 12 balls every wicket. A teenaged Rashid Khan made giant strides in his debut IPL season with 17 scalps at an economy of 6.63, followed by Siddarth Kaul and Mohammed Siraj, who bagged 16 and 10 scalps at strike rates of 13.4 and 13.8 respectively.
In a tournament where they dominated with both bat and ball, SRH were unlucky not to go further as they crashed out in the Eliminator to KKR at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The tracks at Chinnaswamy were re-laid before the season which made it play contrary to its usual self, making batting a mean job. Adding to SRH's misfortune, the chase was cut short when rain reduced the game to a five-over shootout, leaving them little chance of a comeback.

The only other instance a team came close to match SunRisers' feat was RCB in IPL 2016, where they finished with a net impact score of +0.96. They assembled what could arguably be the finest batting lineup the IPL has ever witnessed - Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Shane Watson, and KL Rahul making up their top five. Kohli's magnum opus of 973 runs in a single edition in 2016 remains unmatched, and he was ably supported by AB de Villiers (687 runs, Avg 52.85, SR 169) and KL Rahul in what was his breakout season (397 runs, Avg 44.11, SR 146). RCB's scoring of 9.63 in 2016 is the best any team has managed in an IPL season thus far, and they did so losing a wicket only every 26.17 balls, giving them a batting impact score of 0.92 - the highest any team achieved in a season.
Gayle and Watson did not have particularly fruitful tournaments with the bat, but Watson more than made it up for that with his best season with the ball, accounting for 20 wickets. Like SRH in 2017, RCB was also unlucky not to end their title drought in 2016 as they failed to latch on to the key moments on the night that mattered. From a winning position, their inform middle order choked under pressure in the back half of the run chase to end eight runs short.

The unlucky ones

Of the top 25 teams on total impact score, the only side that failed to make it past the league phase is the RCB side of 2013. They finished with a total impact score of +0.60, while no other side that finished outside the top four could even get to +0.30. RCB in 2013 also remain the only side across 15 seasons that failed to finish in the top four despite winning more than half of their league games (nine wins and seven defeats from 16 league games).
MI in 2008 is another side that was unfortunate to miss the knockouts despite a total impact score of +0.28. They started off in the worst possible manner, losing four games on the trot, their original captain injured and their stand-in captain suspended. They staged a remarkable comeback to win their next six games before falling agonizingly short in the final over in their following three games.

2023.03.30 19:10 Ambatus "Older judoka say they used to do Judo, older BJJers say they do BJJ": Budokast 63: Newaza in Judo

I selected a quote from this episode for the title because it really stuck with me - even if I don't like the implication, I think it really drives the point home.
Episode link: Budokast 63 - O Newaza no Judo (in Portuguese)
All the episodes in Budokast are great, but I've found this one especially so, perhaps because of recent discussions about these topics here. I summarised some of the points discussed there (I hope Budokast doesn't mind), all mistakes are my own.
The conversation is between the host, Moacir Mendes Junior (former Brazilian Judo national team, also BJJ black belt and competitor), and Bruno Schindler (Kosen Judo investigator). Moacir has developed an approach to newaza training in Judo and competitions.
One note: it's clear in the episode that everyone know what "kosen Judo" is, how it appeared, the relationship with the Kodokan and the universities, etc., so no need for "but kosen Judo isn't a thing" - I just didn't include that part here.
Throwing and groundwork in Judo
  1. There's an understandable culture in Judo that prioritises throwing techniques.
  2. Judo newaza has been an integral part of Judo since its inception, with kosen competitions being a specific episode in that history.
  3. Newaza practice has dropped in Judo: it used to be closer to being balanced, or closed to it, but through the decades it was reduced (sharp drop in the 90s).
  4. Judo newaza is also under attack from the change in Judo culture: using it is "doing BJJ".
  5. The self-defence angle has been deprioritised in Judo, while focused on in BJJ.
Judo newaza and BJJ
  1. Learning BJJ to "use in Judo", trying to extract things to "improve newaza", is a losing proposition: learning it for what it is is fundamental to actually evolve.
  2. The different ruleset leads to different reactions, which necessarily lead to different techniques and teaching processes.
  3. There is a "cursed inheritance" in Judo that affects everyone: turtling and avoiding the guard. Kosen Judo displays the techniques we see in BJJ, but the mainstream approach is to turn the back, since rules make turtling a viable approach - but often a losing position.
  4. There should be a regained Judo newaza focus that would enable deeper expression of that part of the art, without resorting to BJJ; this is not done since existing instructors do not want to learn new things, so they outsource newaza training to BJJ.
Lifestyle vs. competition: the risks of outsourcing newaza
  1. Sending students to BJJ to learn the ground game also has a possible outcome: the judoka will go there, stay there and leave Judo.
  2. Judo and BJJ, if we consider them teaching equivalent things, are like learning them in a suit and tie while punching the clock, and learning them in shorts under a palm tree at the beach.
  3. This lifestyle approach of BJJ contrasts with the "all that matters are competition results" of Judo.
  4. Judo is something older (>30) people "used to do", BJJ is something older people "are doing".
  5. Judo should also have/regain this "lifestyle" approach, and stop this trend of people dropping out in their early 30s when competition ends. It should be a lifetime activity that appeals to all age brackets.
  6. Judo focus on the children wastes the obvious audience: their parents.
  7. In BJJ the older practitioner finds a different reality: more people in their 30-50s, with a focus on physical health, almost a therapy, instead of permanent competition training.
  8. "Why don't you do Judo again? "Went to a training near me, almost died due to the training approach". People have work and a family, and if Judo is another thing that they must suffer through then they won't do it.
  9. BJJ doesn't have this problem, they cater to that audience, and going to practice can be relaxing.
  10. Newaza can be an important part of projecting Judo as a life-long activity (cf. Japan)
Olympic sport, regulations, grading
  1. BJJ not being an Olympic sport is a blessing in this regard, and from an offering perspective there is a lot that Judo could learn.
  2. Black belts in Judo are exceedingly regulated and complex, with all sorts of extra activities and bureaucratic requirements, almost as if the purpose is to discourage people from it. Many drop before it because of that.
  3. In BJJ, a black belt is easier because it's a 1:1 relationship with a teacher, independent of competition points or other requirements.
  4. The lack of central regulation is used against BJJ, but it works because the teacher is the one that is in a better position to determine it. And people with bad technique exist everywhere, including Judo black belts.
  5. The self-defence angle has been deprioritised in Judo, while focused on in BJJ.
  6. Judo risks being mummified with all the rule changes. Whereas BJJ integrates new techniques in their approach to scoring, Judo seems to default to penalising them.
  7. Constant limiting changes in rules can make a wonderful sport turn into something boring, with an associated lack of attractiveness for those practising it.
  8. BJJ teachers tend to be more self-employed with a need to attract paying customers, whereas Judo has more people working for sports institutions.
Newaza in Judo: ruleset
  1. The lack of scoring in newaza doesn't help newaza learning and refinement.
  2. Judo newaza competition with points, based on a deep analysis of Judo positions, including losing positions.
  3. 5s passivity when in a losing position == waza-ari
  4. Starting on their feet, 30s, transitions to ground mustn't be a shido (i.e. no "pulling guard")
  5. This instils real abilities that can be directly applied in "normal" competition since it is based on Judo positions and reactions.
  6. No changes in scoring (waza-ari is used), no changes needed to do it, it's a drop-in ruleset tweak.
  7. Worked with the CBJ [NGB] to integrate this newaza competitions in the calendar.
Newaza in Judo: how to advance it?
  1. There's a lot of potential.
  2. We should work within the existing structures.
  3. Being careful with changes and making them easy to use with the existing resources.
  4. Newaza competitions as something that provide tangible improvements in Judo competitions.
  5. There's an audience for a "lifestyle Judo", with "kosen rules" being a part of that approach.

šŸ“· How can we talk about major updates without talking about Marathon Mode? It could come in mid to late 2023, before that we have some very exciting updates like the PFP update! Now let's talk about some Quality of Life improvements
šŸ“· In the previous weeks we banned around 200 fake accounts. The interesting thing is that they will have to pay an unlock fee if they want to get their assets back. This payment will be used to reward our loyal users
šŸ“· Remember Schadenfreude Pool? More details to be released shortly
šŸ“· Do you have plans to improve the inventory user experience?
Yes, but this requires changing many fundamental aspects of the app from a developer perspective. We don't take it lightly because it belongs to the user.
Any mistake can have big consequences. It will probably be revised later this year.
šŸ“· And for the market?
We will add an error message when people try to buy their own Sneakers. We already have a warning when users are listed below the available prices
We are aware of this feedback, but first we need to review what has been requested in the past.
šŸ“· We have many exciting product updates for MOOAR too! So make sure to follow @mooarofficial and join our brand new #MOOAR Discord Server: discord.gg/mooar
šŸ“· Let's do some quick fire questions to conclude this topic!
šŸ“· But first a word from @Jerry10240: "Some people say we only reward Genesis Sneaker owners. This is not true, we want to reward our users who walk every day, even if you don't own a Genesis Sneaker!"
šŸ“·Wen roadmap? Must be released in April
šŸ“· Are Jerry and Yawn okay? Yeah :)
šŸ“· Will there be a reward for the panda skin?
Skin is skin, we do not have a special reward for this skin. If we want to reward one skin, we should reward all
šŸ“· Do you have any plans to improve the Gem System?
šŸ“· We thought a lot before the roll-out. Right now we are happy with the design. If we change the Gem System, we will have to change many other mechanics. We have no plans to change that.
šŸ“·Will there be other benefits for OG Sneakers
They are the prize of Genesis Sneakers, so how to gift a gift - maybe we'll do something in the future
šŸ“· Have you increased the Stamina decline rate in MB terms? We didn't change for a long time
šŸ“· When will there be a buyback from the team? We will do it very soon, you can check the White Paper for details (address)
šŸ“· When will SHAKEN be released?
We want to get things in order and build an industry-leading product before we launch another one.
šŸ“· Will the L2 application for DOOAR be considered?
It's in the pipeline
šŸ“· Will we have the possibility to change the Socket Type and Quality?
It was planned a long time ago but we thought it would be too complicated for the users, so we gave up on the update.
šŸ“· Are you tweaking the percentages of game mechanics (eg: scrolls drop)?
Everything disclosed in the WP will not be changed.
The rest may be changed if required to make the ecosystem more balanced.
šŸ“· Will it be possible to create our own teams in STEPN ( guilds, communities )
That's a good idea. We are currently thinking of using it in different ways!
šŸ“· Will there be more Genesis Sneakers coming soon? We're not gonna increase the number of Genesis. As time goes by, we have to be more strict about the release of these Sneakers. There will be high quality Genesis collaborations, people will find out soon!

2023.03.30 19:08 paulkrendler Investing too much and attaching too soon

TLDR; I'm looking for advice and feedback on not getting too attached too quickly while OLD, and communicating before meeting
I'm curious what some people do to curb investing too much too soon, or getting too attached to someone too soon.
I'm 37M, and recently back into dating after 3 years out from and ltr that ended poorly.
I do well for myself with OLD, as I'm getting enough matches and conversations to keep me satisfied and give me some options, but here lies the problem.
I have habit of getting attached too quickly, and investing heavily into people when we first meet.
I wouldn't say it's clingy, or anything red flag level, so, it's not a matter of scaring people off, but I to tend to really invest when I'm getting along with someone.
I'm new to OLD, so, I spend some time on different dating threads for advice etc, and when it comes to the topic of communication before meeting, I see a lot of people mention that too much talk before meeting, and waiting too long can lead to false impressions and expectations not being met when you finally meet in person.
So I guess I have two questions...
What are your thoughts on communicating heavily before meeting in person, and what are some things you do to prevent yourself from getting carried away and investing too much of yourself into meeting new people?
For some context, me and a 38F met on POF about 3 weeks ago, and started talking on the phone after a few exchanges on the app.
We text and talk daily on the phone, for about an hour at a time. We've got a pretty good idea of eachother after talking for a few weeks, but, I can't help but think of people who have examples of texting for weeks before meeting, with lots of chemistry, only to meet and and have none. Mind you, it's usually texting in the examples.
I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, or might have some feedback.
As for the moving too fast, I chose to date out of town specifically for that reason, as a bit of distance prevents things from just going with the flow.
I'm not going overboard, but I am finding myself thinking of her a lot, and devoting a lot of time to talking with her. Like I said, we've been getting along great so far, so should be ok, but I would hate to meet and lose the spark.
This is why in general, I'm curious what you guys do or steps you take to not get too attached to one person too quickly....
I also have the dilemma of talking to two women, for one LTR, who I'm actually getting along with well. I'm not lusting for the second one as much, but regardless, I don't want to get too attached, as I will ultimately have to let one go.
I could potentially try openly dating both, as one is in town, and one is in another city, but I don't know if I have the time for that, or how well that would rest on my conscience. Lol. I tend to be pretty passionate, and I'm sure I could love two people, but, that's a lot to take on, and a lot to ask. Lol.. sorry for this random addition
Any feedback or advice is appreciated.
Thanks guys

2023.03.30 19:08 brooklynlad Gen-Z Graduates Stare Down Their First Student Loan Payments

Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-03-30/when-do-student-loan-payments-resume-borrowers-dread-restart-later-this-year?srnd=premium

Gen-Z Graduates Stare Down Their First Student Loan Payments

Millions of students graduated during the pandemic with student debt. They have yet to make a single payment.
The moratorium on federal student loan payments, which began three years ago this month, has given recent graduates the financial freedom to pay down debt, boost their credit scores and simply cover everyday expenses at a time of high inflation and economic uncertainty. All that is set to change soon, with payments scheduled to resume later this year.
The restart is likely to be a jolt for nearly everyone with federal student loans (private loans weren’t part of the pause), but perhaps no cohort will feel it quite like Generation Freeze, which has never had to budget for it. That’s likely to slow consumer spending and hurt the economy, according to a recent report from financial services firm Jefferies.ā€œ
The loans being paused was great because I paid the minimum for my private loans and that was it,ā€ said Alix Chronister, a 24-year-old in Kansas City, Missouri. ā€œIf I had had to pay on my federal loans, my financial situation would have been a lot more stressful.ā€

End of an Era

The first 60-day repayment pause was issued by President Donald Trump on March 20, 2020, when the onset of the pandemic sent the economy into a tailspin. Three years, multiple extensions and one presidential administration later, the freeze is still in place and about 11 million people have since completed undergraduate degrees. Of those, an estimated 70% leave college with student debt.
But the freeze era is drawing to a close. President Joe Biden said in late November that payments will resume 60 days after the Supreme Court rules on his one-time forgiveness program or June 30, whichever comes first. That puts the restart date at no later than Aug. 29, and the first monthly installment would be due by the end of September.
For Chronister, that means a big financial adjustment is coming. She graduated in 2021 with $38,000 in private and federal loans and currently works as a chemist in a research facility. She has prioritized paying off the private loans, which make up $8,000 of her total balance.
The freeze was particularly useful because she was making $15 an hour at her first post-collegiate job, amounting to about $30,000 a year.
She’s eligible for $20,000 in forgiveness if the Supreme Court rules in favor of Biden’s plan — but she’s not holding her breath.ā€œI think I’m really lucky to have had the pause, and it definitely benefited me and people who graduated around the same time,ā€ she said. ā€œWe’ve had a chance to get our careers situated before worrying about paying.ā€
The average monthly payment before the pandemic pause was $393, according to the Federal Reserve. About 20 million borrowers were actively paying down their debt, while others were in default or had their payments deferred due to hardship or forbearance.
Depending on a borrower’s personal financial situation, the return of student loan bills won’t be like flicking an immediate ā€œonā€ switch. Travis Hornsby, founder of financial service website Student Loan Planner, can see a case where some borrowers might not be expected to pay for another year or two based on their income. New rules for income-driven repayment plans would also widen the net for those who may qualify for a $0 monthly bill, and cap payments at no more than 5% of discretionary income for others.ā€œ
Compared to what payments used to be, a lot of people are going to be very much eased into repayment,ā€ said Hornsby. That would help not only fresh college grads, but single parents and others who were previously at risk of default. ā€œThe freeze is sort of being thawed.ā€

Looming Bills

The freeze means many recent graduates have never had to factor federal student loan repayments into their monthly budgets, a helpful absence as prices rise for everything from eggs to rent. In a recent survey by personal-finance company Credit Karma , 26% of borrowers said they hadn’t saved any money during the freeze because they were prioritizing everyday expenses. Almost 70% said their financial situation was stagnant or declined in 2022.
For Madison Sasser in Tampa, Florida, the freeze gave her time to figure out her career trajectory without having to worry about an additional monthly bill. The 24-year-old graduated from the University of South Florida in December 2020 with $15,000 in student debt.
She initially wanted to go to law school but decided it was too expensive. Now, she’s working on building a career as a writer while waiting tables at a restaurant during the day, and makes about $38,000 a year.
The return of monthly payments is going to significantly strain her budget, she said, especially due to the high rents in Tampa.
The average starting salary for a member of the class of 2021 is $55,911, according to a July 2022 analysis by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. For young people who live in big cities and lack the financial and career flexibility to move to places with lower costs of living, those early salaries may not stretch very far.
Matthew SƔnchez, a 23-year-old compliance officer who lives in Long Island, New York, says having to repay his loans will be stressful.
ā€œFor me personally, I can probably make do and adjust,ā€ he said, though he expects he’ll have to delay a move to Maryland, which he’s trying to plan because it’s more affordable.
He’s bracing for a monthly payment of $300 on $27,000 in federal loans. He knows he’s on the luckier side: ā€œI’m always thinking about how this affects my demographic, broadly speaking. I can see the frustration people have.ā€

2023.03.30 19:05 VPR_24 DFFOO Future Character Playstyles Part 3: Rikku

Oh boy, here we go. This poor girl is waiting for her big chance to shine. But unfortunately, to best sum up her absence:
Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omia = The Jimmy Kimmel Show
Rikku = Matt Damon
They both aren't invited until its official. "He's a former Dawn Warrior and enjoys howling in the moon, please welcome from Final Fantasy V, Kelger Vlondett!".
But in all seriousness, during a recent interview with Producer Ichiro Hazama, Rikku's prolonged absence is due to the devs developing a new mechanic in the future that correlates with Rikku's unique playstyle. Whether or not it relates to the current Shinryu era, the proposed playstyle for her below is if she debuted now. Also, like Yuna, her main apperance is from FFX, but incorporates attacks from FFX-2 as well, so here goes:
Character: Rikku (Final Fantasy X)
Weapon Type: Fists (In FFX, she wears a one-handed claw on her right arm.)
Crystal Colour: Green or Blue (I know dataminers discovered she had a Black Crystal affinity, but this could change.)
Attributes: Ranged Attacker, Fire/Water Attacker, BRV Battery, Utility (Healer, Enchant, Debuffer)
Summary: Now that I think about it, the devs must've held her back because her Mix command from FFX can go ANYWHERE. Having looked up the skills she can use, it can be very hard to lock down a specific playstyle for her. But the skills below are what I feel could be expected of her attributes. In addition, she's also a Thief in X-2, so an amalgamation of her playstyle will be incorporated.
Unique Mechanic: Rikku has two mechanics; her overhead buff is FlimFlam, the thief skillset from X-2, while her skillset features Mix from the original game as well as a few attacks from X-2. The overhead buff is permanent and changes depending on what she "steals" from the enemy through her BRV command, either a buff, BRV/HP, spoils, even the Force gauge! However, her skills will change effect depending on the colour of the buff. Whenever a special skill that's locked to the mechanic of her buff is used, the buff resets. Sounds complicated? Okay, wait and see below.
Role in Opera Omnia's storyline:
When Rikku FINALLY joins the party, the FFX group (specifically Tidus, Yuna and Wakka) are elated to see her and ponder why she was away for so long...Rikku breaks the fourth wall by briefly turning to look at the screen and by extent, the player, then tells the group "does it matter? I'm finally here!". Braska will also converse with Rikku and consider her like a second daughter. If you know the FFX story, you know.
Weapons:
15CP Weapon: Buster Claw
35CP Weapon: Dual Claw
EX Weapon: Typhoon Claw
LD Weapon: Sticky Fingers
FR Weapon: Extractor - an original designed weapon based on the Extractor boss from FFX.
BT Weapon: Godhand
BRV Skill: Steal - Randomly steals an enemy attribute; 25% chance between BRV/HP, battle spoils, enemy EX/FR gauge or buffs. This directly changes her FlimFlam buff and lock outs the skill until the locked special skill is used. Rikku gains an instant turn rate upon use.
HP Skill - Homing Ray (after using EX once). Rikku summons the Machina Maw from Final Fantasy X-2 and unleashes this attack. Ranged AoE BRV + HP Attack that hits multiple times.
FlimFlam buff default or when her Steal command steals loot from an enemy (Yellow)
Skill 1: Pilfer Gil - 1-hit ST Melee BRV + HP Attack. High turn rate. Increases Gil drop at the end of battle.
Skill 2: Mug - 1-hit ST Melee BRV + HP Attack. High turn rate. Increases Item drop rate at the end of battle.
FlimFlam buff when her Steal command steals BRV/HP from an enemy (Green)
Skill 1: Ultra Potion - Fully restores party's HP and recovers BRV. Reverts to Pilfer Gil upon use and Skill 2 to Mug.
Skill 2: Panacea - Removes all status ailments and recovers BRV. Reverts to Mug upon use and Skill 1 to Pilfer Gil.
FlimFlam buff when her Steal command steals buffs from an enemy (Blue)
Skill 1: Freedom X - Recovers BRV and grants all party members a free skill on their next turn. Reverts to Pilfer Gil upon use and Skill 2 to Mug.
Skill 2: Miracle Drink - Recovers BRV and grants all party members Maximum BRV damage (Rainbow critical) for one turn. Reverts to Mug upon use and Skill 1 to Pilfer Gil.
FlimFlam buff when her Steal command steals either EX or FR meter from an enemy (Red)
Skill 1: Abaddon Flame - 3-hit AoE Ranged BRV + HP attack delivered 3 times and inflicts multiple debuffs. Reverts to Pilfer Gil upon use and Skill 2 to Mug.
Skill 2: Flash Flood - 2-hit AoE Ranged BRV + HP delivered 6 times. Reverts to Mug upon use and Skill 1 to Pilfer Gil.
EX Skill: Shockwave - Rikku summons the Machina Maw and unleashes this attack. Ranged AoE BRV + HP attack that hits multiple times. For one turn, her regular HP Attack turns into Homing Ray. Reverts to normal upon use. Very Slow charge rate.
LD Skill: Borrowed Time - ST 1-hit Melee BRV + HP Attack delivered 3 times. Inflicts the gold-framed Stop debuff on the targeted enemy; prevents the enemy from increasing FR gauge, but only works and lasts until an enemy gauge would increase. E.g. If an enemy's FR gauge increases on player actions, then the buff will prevent that happening when the player takes action and expire on the next party member's turn. Time this attack wisely.
FR Skill: Two candidates for Rikku's FR Partner...
Partner 1: Yuffie - Both are energetic teenage thieves. Rikku and Yuffie whisper and plan something together, before both jointly throw Materia that Rikku mixed with other items and explode. Ranged AoE BRV + HP Attack.
Partner 2: Edgar - Machine experts. Can't think of an animation, but its a Ranged AoE BRV + HP Attack.
FR Conditions:
When a turn passes using a changed skill, be it Skills 1 & 2 or a changed BRV/HP attack.
When a turn passes when restoring BRV.
When a turn passes using a Ranged attack.
BT Skill: Vajra - Rikku summons the Machina Maw, proceeding to go airborne and unleash this energy blast. Ranged AoE BRV + HP Attack.
BT Theme: Rikku's Theme (Final Fantasy X-2 version)
BT Buff: Rikku's Steal command will now steal in a fixed order instead of being random; Yellow, Green, Blue and Red in that order. In addition, Rikku gains a follow-up attack from every action performed, increasing her damage output: Smash & Crush Combo - ST Ranged BRV + HP Attack on Rikku's targeted enemy.
Lastly, the costumes:
Costume 1: Main appearance from Final Fantasy X.
Costume 2: Thief Dressphere (main appearance from Final Fantasy X-2)
Costume 3: Diving Gear (her apperance when Tidus first meets her in Final Fantasy X).
AND...that's a wrap! Rikku would defintely be the hardest character to implement in the game. Not because of animations, but her moveset balancing. That's not to say she'll play exactly how I described her!
What did you guys think? Leave suggestions ideas below!
The next character is...Nanaki.

2023.03.30 19:04 cactus-fever Progesterone - placebo effect?

TW: previous loss / previous successful pregnancy
I just had an interesting convo about progesterone supplementation with an OBGYN I haven’t seen before. Background is I had an early loss before my last successful pregnancy and my old OB had me use suppositories from about 5-12 weeks. IIRC my progesterone was 11 at 5 weeks.
Now I am pregnant again and I went for progesterone and betas yesterday at 3w6d (estimated from OPK as I wasn’t temping). My levels came back at 14 hcg and 5.61 progesterone.
I can’t see an OB in person until 8 weeks but I met with one today via a telehealth benefit through my employer. She said luteal phase defects are controversial as no evidence supports them and she does not even test for progesterone for the same reason. She said some docs prescribe supplemental progesterone if women want the placebo effect but she does not. I appreciated her honesty but I was surprised as so many seem to take the supplements (and obviously I’m biased because it ā€œworkedā€ for me before).
Has anyone else had this convo with your OB? I’m curious if this is the new normal or just something that varies by doctor.

2023.03.30 19:01 stalematehypothesis Finally Checking out Toolkit

I've been using YNAB for years, and have finally decided to check out Toolkit. What a cool project! I'm curious what aspect of Toolkit this community finds most useful/insightful/fun/etc. So far I'm liking Balance Over Time the most. Over the course of paying down my student loans, I had a lot of refinancing/loan-servicer-changes/and some YNAB mess-ups on my part that required creating new accounts. As a result, it was hard to see how much I had really paid over time. Thanks to being able to group all those accounts using Toolkit, I've got a clear picture of what my degree actually cost in the end.

2023.03.30 18:58 xof711 Saylor and MicroStrategy - Ultimate Bitcoin Bulls Explained

Saylor and MicroStrategy - Ultimate Bitcoin Bulls Explained
On Monday, MicroStrategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) revealed that it purchased 6,455 bitcoins For $150M. The firm's treasury now holds 138,955 bitcoins, purchased at an average price of ~$29,817 per coin.
https://preview.redd.it/6mpe7l8fpwqa1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4ee93eda7381e6a7b44fc2911f2b4fa2842173b4
According to a Monday filing with the SEC, MicroStrategy also revealed it prepaid its USD 161M loan owed to Silvergate, fully paying off its debt to the bank.
MicroStrategy became the first publicly traded company to hold BTC on its balance sheet in August 2020. At the time, the firm’s former CEO Michael Saylor described the investment as ā€˜part of our new capital allocation strategy, which seeks to maximize long-term value for our shareholders… this investment reflects our belief that [BTC]... is a dependable store of value and an attractive investment asset with more long-term appreciation potential than holding cash.’
Over the years, MicroStrategy, which formed MacroStrategy LLC in 2021 to hold the firm’s BTC, has purchased BTC with cash and via a number of debt offerings. Each debt offering went on to raise a greater principal amount than initially announced. For example, MicroStrategy’s February debt offering was initially priced at USD 600M, but would go on to raise USD 1.05B.
The firm’s BTC position, currently worth USD 3.96B, has caused the firm to become an instrument for indirect exposure to BTC. At the moment, Capital Group has a 16% position in MSTR, followed by Vanguard Group, 9%, and BlackRock, 6%. Since adopting BTC as a treasury reserve asset in 2020, MSTR is up 93%. The stock achieved a record high of USD 1,034, coinciding with BTC reaching USD ~47k. MSTR has fallen 72.54% since the record high, compared to BTC’s 58.70% drawdown from it's all-time high.
Beyond buying and holding BTC, and supporting the ā€˜hodl’ mantra, Saylor revealed plans for MacroStrategy to begin offering services related to the asset. According to Saylor, the firm has ambitions towards offering Lightning Network-related services: ā€˜We want to plug it into enterprise technology and make it a marketing strategy for any forward thinking CMO.’ Saylor said he expects ā€˜to show something in the first quarter’ in 2023.
Takeaway: MicroStrategy and Saylor’s embrace of BTC highlighted the asset’s inflation hedge use case. Those educating themselves on BTC ahead of MicroStrategy’s embrace would see the move as an obvious affirmation. However, the firm and Saylor have introduced the inflation hedge use-case to some who failed to consider it prior.

The land in this area is underlain by a layer of limestone, eroded and dissolved by rainwater and groundwater to form caverns, holes, and tunnels. This type of terrain is called "karst" and results in many geological features such as wet sinkholes, depressions, natural bridges and a disappearing stream. The hikers can either hike the 3.6-mile Sinkhole Trail to view the numerous sinkholes and geological features, or the 2.8-mile Gum Swamp Trail around a cypress and gum swamp. We recommend wear hiking shoes and bring a water bottle, and consider bug spray or long pants/sleeves. 10am

2023.03.30 18:56 FarmWhich4275 When Humans Human

(one of my earliest attempts at writing. decided to just finish and post it. apologies.)

Entry Log One: Khrakhan Eld, Jukhanian Ambassador to the Human Alliance. Stardate - Human Year 2086.

It has been over three centuries since I accepted this commission to work with the Human Alliance, and even though I have known them for that long, they still surprise me to a shocking extent. A highly diverse species with so many different cultures congealed into one staggering mass of a hundred billion strong, settled alongside all the galaxy's different species.
Humanity was, and still remains, the driving force behind the rapidly growing Federations power and might. The strange, gaunt, high gravity race of bipedal apes took the galaxy by complete surprise, not only due to their appearance, but also due to their surprising strength.

In barely forty years of their time here, they have integrated seamlessly with species previously thought inhospitable. Planets thought harsh or unuseable, supported massive colonies of millions of humans, and the richness the industries these worlds provide. Humans, as it later turned out, had an affinity for members of other species, and by staggering luck they had a one-in-a-billion reproductive system that was robust enough that they could actually interbreed with most mammalian species in the galaxy, and one or two of the reptillians as well.

Humanity's capabilities in terms of engineering surpassed ours in a matter of decades, and due to the terms of the Federation, they shared it with us. This is primarily due to the tribal nature of the race, and they are well known for their petty squabbles and minor disputes, that result in skirmishes or outright wars, but would never come to full scale attacks. Maybe a warning shot or two, a small exchange of fire to disable shield arrays, but never more than that.
When questioned about these incidents, Human ambassadors and leaders would simply say something on the lines of:
"Meh. Local tensions. Pirates. Idiots. God botherers or Idealists that randomly decide to slug it out one day. Just ignore them, they run out of steam eventually and bugger off back to where they came from."

We really cared not. Owing to how the humans never turned their guns on us, we were fine with it, so long as they never got us involved. Everything about the humans confused and amazed us. They had, during First Contact Exchanges, given us reels upon reels of their historical archives. And what we had now was essentially a marginally watered down version of what humanity once was.

Hardened like a battleship hull.

***************************************************************************
Entry Log Two: Human Expansion

Owing to their ability to breed with a majority of the species in the galaxy, Human society, cultures and customs became part and parcel of the Federations species, almost to the point where we started getting cults forming in small pockets on the outer rims worshipping this aspect. Humanity, surprisingly enough, even though they technically were the deity being worshipped by these cults, were the first ones to clamp down on them, disbanding or outright attacking them.

Humans retained a lot of their individual national cultures long after their arrival into space. Many of their soldiers still carried blades, swords, knives and other such primitive weapons, weapons that most members of the galactic species considered worthless, or obsolete. But humans wielded these weapons to devastating effect, as witnessed in a few incidents and military conflicts seen during their short time in the Federation.

Technological advancement in terms of military and civilian development outstretched the rest of the galaxy by - to quote an expression - "a Country Mile." Human creativity and the natural drive for both an Omnivorous species' capacity for greed, and the species natural curiosity drove them to accomplish tasks and tech we never would have imagined. Humans and their concept of "Percussive Maintenance", or smack it 'til it worked was also something that took us by surprise. Especially considering that most of the time it actually worked.

For a few decades, a long time in human years apparently, we simply took it at face value, and never questioned it. As the expression goes: "Never look a gift horse in the mouth."

***************************************************************************
Entry Log Three: Capacity for Evil

They were not complete angels and paragons of course, Many a time, more than other races especially during the early years, they were extremely aggressive in their colonization efforts, going to active war with many nations over territorial disputes, corporate conflicts or other such disputes. Either they would win by a bare margin, or they would be routed and sent off in pieces.

One such occasion was the Tabrisko Incident, where, from what I could discern, was a human Corporation, a private entity separate from the Alliance and the Federation, known as Cybratech Industries, had laid claim to a particular star system. A star system, already settled by its current inhabitants the Hasaki Triumvirate. It was here that humanity showed its capacity for callous greed, and why so much emphasis is placed in society on the rejection of Corporate ideals. It also showed us a modicum mof respectability. When someone was being a dick... they had no trouble fucking them.

The Corporation, or simply 'Corpos' gathered a fleet of about forty ships, two of them cruisers and one Ark ship. They proceeded, without orders to bypass most security legislation, bribing their way across the galaxy and arrived in the system of Tabrisko. Two terrestrial planets, one Oceanic planet in the habitable zone, one Gas giant, two Ice planets and one newborn Molten planet. An unremarkable system by all accounts, there were thousands just like it throughout the galaxy.

The Corpos warped in and sent out a mass broadcast. "This is a public declaration. On behalf of the CybraTech Corporation, your occupation of this star system is now null and void. You will evacuate from the area immediately. You have a standard week to respond."

The sheer bastarding balls of them. A human representative was contacted and informed of the situation.

The human Ambassador, a gaunt, tall white haired gent by the name of Harley Alride, had a sneaky, unmistakable grin on his face as he spoke to the ambassador from the Hasaki Triumvirate. "So... what exactly is the issue here?"
The Hasaki Ambassador, Sings-On-Shores, was by no means amused. The lizard like reptilians blue scales flared in anger as he spoke back. "For the third time, we have a human fleet calling itself the Cybratech Corporation demanding that we surrender one of our colony worlds! I demand an explanation!"
Harley simply let out a chuckle, as if he was suppressing the desire to laugh. "Oh? Corpo rats huh? Well they are a private entity. There's nothing we can do to stop you, or them."
Sings-On-Shores was somewhat confused, but more upset and angry. "What? WHAT!?"
Harley simply said, that typical sly, 'I am up to something sneaky' grin on his face that we had become so accustomed to seeing. "What I am saying Ambassador is... That whatever you decide to do with them is entirely your decision."
Sings-On-Shores was astonished. This situation was a full invasion by galactic standards, it was the equivalent of a declaration of war. "But... They are your people! You speak for them!"
Harley's smile disappeared and his demeanor changed to one of seriousness. "Mister Ambassador with all due respect, need I remind you of Federation Colonization legislation number Seven Five Eight, Paragraph three? I quote: 'The first claimant to any star system that has the capacity to maintain any industry on that planet, has full and absolute control of its industry and inevitably, it's defense, is the sole and exclusive claimant to that star system.'" Harley said, and looked at his counterpart.
"Of course I remember the damn legislation! I helped sign that into law a hundred years ago! What the hell are you talking about!?" Sings-On-Shores demanded, his scales flustering between breaths.
"What I am saying, Sir, is that Private entities known as Corporations and other private entities can form OUTSIDE of the Alliances jurisdiction. They can get rich, get an ego the size of a cargo freighter and then suddenly decide 'I am god now, I can do what I want.' and go on a rampage. We allow it, for reasons that should be obvious. We do however... DISAVOW." Harleys last word in that statement took the Hasaki Ambassador by surprise.
"Disavow... wh-?" The entire concept for the Hasaki of private corporations operating outside of jurisdiction was as much a foreign concept to him as could be imagined.
"We allow these entities to buy their own fleets, set up shop and do what they do. they return to the Alliance eventually one way or another, Its just business. But sometimes... the rich and wealthy develop a god complex. And it is up to the normal people in the galaxy to remind them of what they really are. Lest they do stupid things." Harley responded. He looked into the monitor, and visibly closed one of his eyes in a cheeky manner, with his smile returned.
Sings-On-Shores went silent for a moment. As if processing the information. "Understood, Ambassador."
"One more thing..." Harley said. His demeanor shifted again, to a dead serious and absolute severity. "Do not fire on that Ark ship. Those people signed up for a new life, not an execution. There are children on board. We will see to it they get passage to a new colony world one way or another. But the corpo fleet? Heh... Enjoy the salvage."
Sings-On-Shores acknowledged with his own sinister grin, and closed the call.

A few hours later, a very heavily armed war fleet of the Triumvirate warped into the star system. Outnumbering and heavily outgunning the Corpo fleet. As expected, sensing danger the Ark ship immediately performed an FTL emergency jump, and vanished to the borders of the system where, a Human Alliance fleet was casually waiting for them. The corporate fleet was nothing short of obliterated by plasma cannons and heavy weapons fire from a Triumvirate dreadnought and its escorts. Nothing left but salvage and slag floating hopeless in the expanse where a salvage crew from the colony appeared and went to town.
Three thousand people were killed in that fight. Two Triumvirate ships were lost, totaling 600 losses, battleships no less. The rest were human losses. Corvettes, pickets, escort ships and mostly small low quality frigates crewed by 'Corporate drones' and contracted slave workers. As Harley said, 'nothing worth keeping.'

The human ambassadors and agents explained that rich corporations or other such entities would go mad with power, gather followers or create clone armies - highly illegal clone armies - and attempt to claim what they wanted. Human Alliance officers always knew what was going on, and made sure that one way or another, in a fair and balanced manner, they would always lose.
"In a fair and balanced manner." That sentence is almost always expressed with a certain sadistic glee.

***************************************************************************

Entry Four: Unbelievable Charity

This event is in stark contrast to the New Haven Incident that took place some twelve years later. Humanity was now at the forefront of Galactic politics and economics. New Haven was in fact a Bakari settlement and I had been called in to help them reinforce their trade position with the local area and help them along. I was in the orbital station garrisoning the colony when I heard the call to action.
The communications arrays suddenly exploded with SOS signals, emergency alerts and warnings of every kind as a staggering earthquake hit one of the continents. Seismologists put the quake on a massive eleven point four on the scale, enough to tilt the planets axis three degrees, open two new fault lines, slow the planets rotation speed by almost a full second and cause seven subsequent volcanic detonations across the tectonic plate.
Twenty nine cities were impacted and a hundred and fifty million lives were at stake. Before I could do anything however. A message interrupted all communications directed at the local garrison.

"Distress Signal Received. This is Alliance Fleet Sons Of The Dawn responding. Admiral Beckett Gray reporting. Request permission to enter Federation airspace."
I was on the bridge with the station captain helping him organize a response at this time, and without thinking, I immediately jumped on the communicator in a response. "This is federation Ambassador Khrakhan Eld responding, permission granted."
The station captain was somewhat annoyed with me. It was not exactly polite to supplant his authority. I was only an ambassador, so he scolded me for it. "How dare you do that! This is my station! You dare break with protocol like that!"
"Captain Sundaris please, this is an emergency situation." I responded, trying to stay calm.

Before however we could argue this point, a hundred dropships, cargo ships and two planetary cruisers blasted past the station making us jump in surprise as they whizzed past us. Moments later the massive hull of one of the Alliances two kilometer long Planetary Assault Carriers rumbled past the station, its sheer size and speed causing the windows and plating on the stations hull to rattle. Very few people outside the Alliance had seen one of these magnificent beasts, and as it slipped past us we got a glimpse as to exactly why.

A strange ship with a triangular or diamond shaped hull, hangar bays on the sides, heavy armor plating with dozens of shield generators dotted the meters thick armor plating. Weapons seen only on dreadnoughts or battleships lined its side hull under the bridge section and more small craft were being hastily ejected from its side mounted hangars. Its most terrifying component was what was mounted at the front - a Spinal mounted ion cannon. I could very clearly see a tell-tale sign of an emitter array barely sticking out the front end.

It entered the planets atmosphere flawlessly and we watched in awe as a full army of humans flooded out of the ships hull as it touched ground causing a puff of dust. Two more of these PAC class ships followed, then three more after that, and one more lagging behind with various cargo ships and drop transports seemingly welded to its outer hull followed, all within moments of each other. Two more smaller craft, known as Trade Frigates or Droid Frigates, ships whose superstructure is primarily consistent of communications arrays and antennae, appeared and entered the stations orbital patterns and began transmitting commands and orders, organizing the planets scattered and broken emergency signals.

The captain and I looked at each other, mouths agape at the sight we just witnessed. Not just one of them, but SEVEN? How many of them did humanity have!?

"One hundred and thirty four. And still counting." I heard a voice behind me say.
"Wh- Pardon?" I asked, now looking at a human Marine standing in the control room.
"That's how many of those ships we have. One hundred and thirty four by last count, with drydocks and shipyards in Alliance space working to produce another six hundred within the next ten years. As per our trade agreements, one hundred of those ships will be handed over to our allies and trade partners." He said with a smile, handing me a data pad.
He must have heard the voice in my head somehow, or he just simply knew what the question was, probably having been asked it a thousand times. "Erm... Uh... Th-Thank you uh..." I cleared my throat and straightened my shoulders, attempting to compose myself. "Carry on soldier. We will coordinate with your teams on the ground and translate what we can. Not everyone on the planet understands the Galactic standard language yet, so we will do our best. Patch us in to your commslink and we will assist where we can."
"Sir yes, Sir!" The human saluted, then immediately charged back out of the station. Moments later, a new group of humans appeared and without orders, began to redirect communications and show us bodycam footage from the ground.

What followed was the single largest and most grueling disaster relief campaign in seventy years. Twenty thousand ships. Two hundred million tons of medical supplies. Six hundred million tons of food and water. Two million humans working to save the lives of a hundred million people. Three and a half months of work.

After all was said and done, as many lives saved as possible, Human constructor fleets appeared with another surprise. They called them Manufactoriums, city sized ships with no armament or defense equipment, but cargo containers, construction drones and building hardware. Twenty two of them. It wasn't a ship in the traditional sense... to be honest it looked more like a children's block building set with giant engines. Big, fat, squared boxes with various patterns of armor plating mounted on a set of giant starship thrusters.

They landed on the planets surface and began to, for lack of a better term, unpack themselves. They landed, then a system of... i guess robots, started to unpack the blocky monster. Within hours, the ships had disappeared and turned into organized and perfected geometric patterns. They essentially made a prepackaged city and flew it out to act as a replacement for the city that was destroyed. Millions homeless, now almost instantly rehoused.

All the humans asked for in return was that we honor trade agreements and maintain the Alliance.

***************************************************************************

And so here we stand, many decades into the greatest and hopefully longest lasting friendship in history as Humanity rapidly carves itself into our hearts and our minds, with their increasingly erratic and interesting behavior. They are the only species in galactic history - that we are aware of anyway - to not immediately attempt to forge a galactic hegemony or engage in a genocide without due cause.

They are also one of extremely few species that everybody likes. Most like their presence or enjoy their company. Some simply ignore them. The few that don't like them are quick to change their minds when rescuers or negotiators arrive when a problem shows up.

Humans are here to stay. Hopefully for a damn long time.

Final Log: Khrakhan Eld, Jukhanian Ambassador to the Human Alliance. Stardate - Human Year 2386.

2023.03.30 18:55 Gloomy_Travel7992 20F Movie/TV Lover looking for similar friends [friendship]

Over the past few years I’ve slowly become more and more interested in film and television, watching something everyday has become the norm for me now. I’m no buff by any means but I’ve been immersed in these arts for quite a bit now. But I have no irl friends to chat about them, so what better place to be then here.
While I like mostly every genre, and I’m always open to new things, a few of my favourites are, for movies: Paddington 2, Dunkirk, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Toy Story 2, Jurassic Park, and Little Women, and for TV: Adventure Time, Stranger Things, Ted Lasso, Barry, and The Crown.
I’m hoping to find people with a similar interest in these arts, and are up to chatting all things movie and tv, whatever it may be the creatives at work, such as directors, actors, etc. Interesting news about upcoming projects or whatnot. Or even the state of the streaming wars, exciting right. If any of this interests you hmu!
I do however have some things I would not like with chatting, firstly that I want to keep the convo strictly movies and tv, I don’t want to talk about what I do at university, or my other interests, etc. unless they come up naturally and still revolve around the main topic, this is because I spend enough time irl talking about that stuff, but no one irl is interested in movies and tv like me. Basically looking for a movie and TV buddy!
