MEIOSIS: the premise OF copy Sexual reproduction;

Sexual reproduction wants a genetic contribution from two altogether totally different sex cells. Egg and sperm cells ar specialised sex cells remarked as gametes (Gr. gamete, wife; gametes, husband). In animals, a male cell (sperm) unites with a female cell (egg) throughout fertilization to form one cell remarked as a zygote (Gr. zygotos, yoked together).

Syngamy;

The fusion of gametes is known as syngamy (Gr. gamos, marriage). The zygote is that the initial cell of the new animal. each of the two gametes contributes 1/2 the genetic knowledge to the zygote. to stay up a relentless vary of chromosomes among following generation,

Corporeal cells;

Animals that reproduce sexually ought to manufacture gametes with the body vary of their customary body cells (called corporeal cells). All of the cells among the bodies of most animals, apart from egg , sperm , 2n of chromosomes.

So people say biological essentialism is bad because it reduces people to their reproductive anatomy, but my take on this has been different.
My understanding of biological essentialism is that sex assigned at birth is important and useful information.
I'm pro self-Id for trans people, pro trans people using the bathroom of their choosing, and pro healthcare for trans people. Trans women are women and trans men are men. I have questions around sex & gender but the most important thing while I'm exploring this, is that trans people are treated with dignity and respect.
So... when cis people say things like my uterus isn't what makes me a woman, I'm wondering what does? Obviously not all people assigned female at birth have uteruses, but broadly there are male and female reproductive organs. So if my reproductive organs aren't what make me a woman, is it flowery patterns, lipstick, and long hair? I was wondering if not having biological essentialism leads to strengthening gender stereotypes? Is the 'problem' that this conversation is conflating sex and gender?
If we are assigned male or female based on our reproductive organs at birth, this is broadly a good prediction/redlection of puberty, reproductive anatomy, and hormones right? I think we should expand our understanding of sex of course, because intersex people exist.
What if sex was information that medical professionals could access, but beyond that it didn't matter? So in society, most people wouldn't know someone's sex assigned at birth, and people can use whatever gender pronouns best align with them, without people making assumptions about genitalia? People could present however they wish, could still transition of course, and perhaps we'd breakdown gender stereotypes leading to wider acceptance of 'gender divergent' people.
At the moment there are issues like trans men being left out of things like calls for cervical screenings (in the UK) , because their sex is recorded as male on medical records. Would having sex assigned at birth or allocating someone as cis or trans on medical records help deal with this?
I understand that currently trans people are not safe to be outed as trans in all medical settings, so I'm not advocating for immediate changes, I suppose this is a bit of a thought experiment.
I think sex is a broadly useful category in some specific settings, but shouldn't equate to someone's gender or gender identity. I think society has done such a good job if entangling sex and gender that untangling them is very difficult but important.
I don't know how well I've explained my thoughts, gender and sex is complex and my understanding of it is changing. I'm interested to hear other people's thoughts and opinions.

I love the early modern period, and I love guns. and I've always wanted a reproduction from the early modern period (specifically the late 16th and early 17th century.)
I'm actually making a late 16th century costume right now. Maybe an early, mid or even a late 17th century costume in the future. It would be really cool to have some period firearms as well. I've always loved those guns, whether it be wheellocks, snaphaunces, snaplocks, dog locks, or some sort of early flintlock. I think they're awesome!
I'm in the north-western US, I've been looking for a while for people who make them but I haven't found much. I don't really even know where, or how to start. I've found a few companies that import some stuff like flintlocks and matchlocks from India, but idk if I really want that. I've heard they're usually pretty finicky or low quality. But they are really cheap.
I've seen a few people from Europe who have some really nice looking wheellocks and other things, even those reenactors in Jamestown VA, but I have no idea where they get them. I know of at least one wheellock maker in Poland but idk much about him, or if there are better options. From what I've found, most of them are in Europe, which is fine.
Looking online all I can find is mostly stuff from 1800 onwards. Unless it's real 1500/1600's stuff at auctions, but I would never want to shoot that! 😂 Pretty much all of the reenactors here are of the early 1800's trappers and explorers so I can't really ask them.
Anyways, TLDR: I want some early modern firearms, but I don't know where to look. Even if I can't do it right now, I think it would be good just to know for the future.

Is it normal to get regular period cycle back after top surgery with all the hormones fluctuating n stuff? This is very difficult on me rn.
I have an endocrinologist in Toronto, I was referred in January. My endocrinologist hasn't bothered to call me or make an appointment with me at all yet and Idk how to get the medical help I need.
I live in Sarnia, ON. My endocrinologist shouldn't be this far from me.

I (30F) asked a friend to sign a petition to update the curriculum at our alma mater to be more inclusive (to POC people like me). She stopped speaking to me for and I don’t expect to hear from her.
For additional context: we have always generally shared views on other things like lgbtq issues and reproductive rights. However some part of me must have known that race wasn’t going to be the same, since I, who am decidedly not white, really never engaged her on the topic until after the 2016 election. When this petition came up, I waited a week to bring it up, until there were hundreds of signatures already including a cousin of hers. When I did, I tried to be as cautious about raising the topic as I could, and understand where she was coming from, and explain how much it would mean to me to have her support and continue difficult conversations about race (including my own personal experiences I hadn’t shared with her ever). She told me she needed time, but immediately stopped texting and calling. I was in shock, but wanted to honor her wishes.
However, as the weeks ticked by, I got sadder and sadder. It was the pandemic, so isolation could have been a big part of it. Perhaps worth mentioning - the week I asked her about the petition, I also told her I was pregnant, which has made this ghosting particularly painful. This woman was in my wedding and was my best friend for a decade. When we graduated college, we were glued at the hip, to the point where she used to joke and call herself ‘my boyfriend.’ I now have a toddler she has never even met.
Now, I guess I can’t stop wondering if asking her for this was just too much. Some POC friends have told me in the years since that I should have known better; my non-POC friends have stuck by me and felt she had been toxic in this interaction.
Thoughts? Would appreciate any insight. I have loved this community for years and thought about posting this for a long time. It’s a relief just to put it all down.

Posting on here as I genuinely don’t know where to post about topics like this. A lot of nutrition subs auto-lock posts like this because they think they’re “blog posts”. Anyways…
Within nature, animals generally pick the genetically superior mate. Within mammals and especially apes, the female is generally the enabler of the relationship. They select males based on who has better genes for; protecting, hunting, foraging, health, general survivability, etc. These males have a slight bias towards quantity, but will only accept the relationship if the female shows good reproductive and child bearing traits.
Animal evolution is a mix of large scale adaption/mutation and genetic selection of traits.
Back in the days of our pre-historic ancestors, human lifespan was often short. Often not because of general poor health, but death from predators, starvation or infection. This meant the average lifespan was much shorter than todays standards. Genetic selection was essentially about who was the best mate to survive within the short lifespan they had.
Nowadays, even people that die “early” in their 50s/60s, still lived much longer than the average pre-historic Homo sapien. But obviously as we know, death at such an age is considered premature, as we can live much longer than this.
The great thing about modern civilisation is that we now see how people live and deal with health up until old age, genetic selection can be refined even further. Instead of selecting mates that are great at surviving in the short term only, now you can predict who will succeed and live to old age with good health based on various judgements about them. Not only this, but intelligence has become such a dominant factor in all areas of life; obtaining resources, health, survivability, etc.
Healthcare, food access, education, technology, sanitation, etc. The pillars of modern civilisation have allowed us to build a utopia - at least compared to ancestral standards.
But the side effect of building this utopia, is that the bottom end of the gene pool can now survive longer and contribute to humanity more than before. This post isn’t me leading up to some idea of a dystopian eugenics based society, where we do something to people with “poor” genes. No, let me explain the best solution.
The reason why people are born with “poor” genes in the first place are for these reasons; lineage genetic mutations, sperm/egg DNA damage, poor nutrition within the womb, exposure to toxins within the womb, inbreeding, etc. But the thing is, these are things we can actively control.
Starting with the last one. We’ve now demonised inbreeding to such a level that it’s incredibly rare for it to happen. For the rare people with genetic mutations that came from inbreeding, they can mate with a someone that hasn’t come from inbreeding - slowly fizzling out the poor genes over many generations, especially when mixing with diverse genes.
Nutrition and toxins within the womb are well known, though obviously still a problem. The amount of mothers that smoke, drink alcohol or even take drugs when pregnant is too high. The only acceptable number is 0. We have a long way to go for this to improve, I’m not sure how to improve this, but education certainly helps. Nutrition within the womb is important, nutrition in general is also an aspect that society as a whole needs to focus on. The amount of people that are overweight, obese and/or have disease related to diet is shocking and increasing by the year. We really need to fix this issue. We may have to start heavily taxing all junk food companies, like we do with cigarettes.
With regards to sperm/egg DNA damage, this ties into the above factors. Research shows a poor diet results in DNA mutation within sperm/eggs, environmental toxins also play a part in this DNA damage. This is why dietary health is actually way more important than everyone thinks. What enters our body literally influences our offspring and the future of humanity. If we continue down this path of dietary sickness, we will slowly devolve into an inferior version of ourselves. We already see the warning signs today. The advent of plastics and its contamination in our food/water supply has already been linked to the stark increase in male sexual development issues. If toxins like these are not removed from our consumption, this will have grave effects for humanity in the next few hundred years. On another note, we’ve also started to see a decline in IQ - which is primarily based on genetics. What’s in our body is literally affecting the intelligence of our offspring.
Lastly comes lineage genetic mutations. We can’t really remove these from DNA, at least not naturally. Some of us are just born with undesirable traits. However, we can certainly improve the overall genetic makeup our offspring by mating with another race. A mixture of genes is desirable in nature, versus mixing similar genes together - which produces more undesirable traits. This is why scientists promote “race mixing” so much. Race mixing, in combination with the other factors I’ve discussed, will produce offspring that are; taller, stronger, higher IQ, better looking, longer living, etc. I’m sure we all want our offspring to hold these traits.
We don’t need any fancy genetic engineering technology or eugenic programmes. All we need to do as a species is take the upmost care of our planet, eliminate as much toxins from our food/water supply and manufacturing processes as possible, promote eating healthily and forming healthy habits in general, but especially during pregnancy.
The future of humanity is what you put inside you. We need to do better.

I play OSR modules using 5e, and the (linked) documents below are essentially a 'this is how I play 5e'; I thought to share them with possibly like-minded people (Probably not too many here at /osr).

The rules doc contains some restrictions and small rules changes to 5e. More importantly, there's a set of commonly used rules modules from 1e/OSRIC and B/X/OSE that can be easily bolted onto 5e. Nothing new nothing spectacular, simply reproductions or mild adaptations of the well-known rules: encounters (reaction rolls, morale), dungeon/hex crawls, segmented combat rounds from 1e, item shattering from fireballs, etc. There's a matching (skill-free) 5e fillable pdf character sheet as well.
Specifically, combat was made more deadly and unpredictable by using the 'half HP max damage' rule for 5e monsters and by using the 1e/OSRIC initiative system and segmented combat rounds. This really works quite nicely: declaring actions before knowing the order of play creates some (limited) uncertainty on how things work out, and ranged and melee attackers now have a reasonable chance to interrupt spellcasting (as in 1e), while respecting the 5e action economy.
I understand that the majority of the /OSR population would reply to this 'why not play OSRIC or OSE', but I happen to like the core of 5e; Let me know what you think if you are thinking along similar lines.

No, but with all seriousness, I'm in tears after seeing this and watching him play in dreamhack atlanta tourny this weekend. I hope once modern players get comfortable with the game, they make an effort to do motion inputs, and maybe even try out classic! If this man is not using modern, you know there has to be something behind the feeling of a game with full motion controls.

My rheumatologist sent in a vial of my blood to Invitae on 05/17/2023. The test is to find out what connective tissue disorders I have. I am still waiting for results as of 6/3/2023. I know it can take some time as I have had genetic testing for reproductive cancer screening as it runs in my family. Has anyone else here done this test? If so how long did it take to get your results back

Hello bio people! I am planning to do my ia on the effects of garlic and ginger on the reproduction of bacteria, e. Coli perhaps? I just can’t come up with a method on how to go through with this experiment and how to collect my data. To start off its my gf’s father but im not personally attacking him. No bias involved. I have a lot of humint training and its how i got to this point. He had his daughter brainwashed by a constant flow of manipulation. I read through him rather quickly but kept it to myself. She wouldn’t have believed me anyway. He was an inmate in USP Atlanta in the early 80’s when it was a high security federal prison. His daughter and exwife had no clue of this. I kept my distance and just didnt allow any of his games to get to me. My gf and i moved in together and he wanted to move in also. No way. Thats when he went on the attack. Without her know he turned the neighborhood against us, lied to the police about me and even went as far as going to her therapist and tried getting her hospitalized. People eat up his act and he has it down perfectly. But now his daughter knows whos behind the mask. Im trying to figure out what put him in club fed. It happened as a minor and carried him till he was 21. So to go to a usp for a crime as a juvenile it had to be bad.
What i have so far is he told someone he lit a gas station on fire years ago. But thats not club fed worthy. Looking around his hometown history i found a post about a string of fires happened on the same road as the gas station and included an apartment building. I spoke to a friend at the bureau of prisons and in the system hes there but no info beyond high security inmate at usp Atlanta. We figured out that’s because he was a minor. Those fires he would have been 15. Old enough to charge. He lied about what school he went to also. Because i went back in archives and checked year books to see when he disappeared. He took his daughter to the school once to go fishing. The school was in Berlin nj. The school he said he went to was in pennsauken. There is a school in Berlin for kids with behavior issues and there is a lake on the campus. I showed her and that was it. Her mom is in denial or knows and is covering. Because she claims the federal bureau of prisons is wrong, its my fault. I must have put it there.

I don’t know what sub to write this in but I was on lamotrigine for a long time and decided to self medicate with a left over risperdal a doctor in the past gave me and I made myself into a zombie. I did this because of Tardive dyskinesia and joint pain, the two came together and felt like they were attacking me. It was from the lamotrigine/lamictal. I saw that risperdal is good for tardive dyskinesia. I did not want to keep damaging my teeth from tardive dyskinesia. I am aware that both those drugs do something with bones as in penetrate bone deep. I feel trapped. The doctors will not do anything because they don’t see anything wrong, all they advise is an antidepressant but that will eliminate whatever healthy reproductivity function I have left. Currently having overall blunted emotions and extreme numbness down there worse than before, from taking celexa. Celexa was taken years ago. I don’t want to feel like a zombie anymore and I want my sexual health back to normal
Edit: I forgot to mention my memory problems that these two gave me as well. I saw that lamictal/lamotrigine gave me tardive dyskinesia and joint pain however it continued even after cessation, it got better just not enough personally. The risperdal did help with that tardive dyskinesia and a noticeable amount for the joint pain in directly. The risperdal nailed it in with the memory issues and now I do occasionally have joint pain even after cessation. Right now I am left with dry mouth. Oh and back pain )x
