2023.06.01 20:46 successeventually Progession in an unusual way, esoteric question

I have a really weird situation going on and would really like some recommendations or advice. I'll try to make it clear but it's likely I'll have to explain further. I want to do physics or engineering as a career.
I haven't done great in highschool math so far but on my own I self studied a whole lot of material on a tablet, took notes and generally did my best to understand material for fun including open courseware and pirated courses, books etc. I know it's my fault but I was placed in lower level math classes against my will, making it hard to give off effort. I had all AP and honors classes otherwise. “The albatross’s giant wings prevent him from walking”
I am about to be a senior, but I am getting a scholarship to spend my senior year studying in a European HS. The problem is that I don't yet know the language in that country and am going to struggle in school (not a problem for graduation).
I am also completely homeless, and I'm not sure about my financial aid status.
Basically, I want to be an engineer or phycist with not up to par math in school but a decent amount of knowledge. How do I demonstrate or obtain some credential to prove my proficiency so I can hopefully earn a decent college education?

2023.06.01 20:29 Lucky-Ad4488 I (25F) lost 20 pounds my first month alcohol free!

I am a career bartender, and have been for a long time. I live in a large city and drinking is a huge part of me and my friend's lives. For years I would go through the cycle of drinking until blackout, struggling and recovering the next day, then gaining just enough energy back so I could do it all over again.
Recently I got my thyroid tested and my doctor noticed some pretty severe irregularities, so they recommended I stop drinking and cut my sugar intake in order to aid the problem until I can get set up with an endocrinologist.
Y'all, it's been almost a month since then and I have a new lease on life. I wake up every morning with more energy than I know what to do with, my mood swings are gone, my joint pain has severely lessened. I went to the doctor for another blood test today and was shocked when the scale showed that I was 20 pounds lighter than the month previous. If you need a sign that it is time to stop drinking, HERE IS YOUR SIGN. I'm one of those people that would drink heavily every night but didn't consider myself an alcoholic because I'm young (25F) and primarily a social drinker. Don't let these excuses stop you from living your life to the fullest. I am never going back!

2023.06.01 19:19 Savbav I’m Trustless, and I’m a Mormon

TL/DR: This is my letter describing my exit from activity in the LDS Church. It is very long. I finalized it in January 2023, so before the SEC published their findings. I plan to send this letter to my local "leaders" in the next month or two, and let the cards fall where they may.
Hello. I’m DivineFR1/Savbav, and I’m a Mormon. The bottom line is this: I no longer trust the Mormon Church. I either leave activity in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or I get excommunicated. If I were more public with my career duties, spiritual belief systems, and activism, I would eventually face the same fate in the Church as Margaret Toscano, D. Michael Quinn, Natasha Helfer Parker, John Dehlin, Sam Young, and Peter Bleakley, just to name a few. This is the story of my trust crisis and current faith transition from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I still like to believe I have a firm faith and foundation in the doctrines of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. That is kind of weird to say when I have made a major decision to not participate in the LDS Church and to not return to activity. Ultimately, I will always have “Mormon” in my identity due to my rich family heritage and personal experiences. I had every intention of remaining active for my entire life. My testimony and faith in the Restored Gospel were so strong, that they really gave me stability when none was available from other sources. I served a mission faithfully and diligently. I married in the Temple. I respected and honored my covenants. My covenants were the pillar of my faith to maintain activity. As I write this letter, I am heartbroken, tenderhearted, frustrated, and devastated. Yet, I also feel a great sense of gratitude and joy. I just hope I can convey a sense of understanding while sharing my story.
Over the last 5 years, so many of my experiences in and about the Church have led to this remarkable decision and outcome. In fact, it seems that it is an “inevitable” decision (as so many others who have made their own faith transition have put it). Contrary to what many believe, it was my personal study, commitment, and pondering of the doctrine and scripture of the Restored Gospel that led me out. It was official Church sources that led me out of activity. It is to the point that I cannot stay if I have any faith or intention of keeping any semblance of spiritual progress or health.
If someone were to tell me that I would leave the Church even two years ago, I would not have believed it was even possible. I was strong and active. Yet, I had my concerns but trusted in my faith, in my covenants, and in my Gospel Study practices enough to remain “faithful.” I was a person that so many other members leaned on for strength in their own struggles of activity. There seems to always be a “but.” I had experiences within my activity in the Church that were directly against what I know and trusted to be doctrine and essential principles of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. These were contrary actions and experiences that the leadership of the Church themselves engaged in.
When my spouse and I entered our marriage and our first family ward after being in a Young Single Adult Ward, we experienced some difficulties that could not be swept away as a leader’s “imperfections”. My mantra had always been, “The people in the Church aren’t perfect, but the Church is perfect.” Jesus Christ is the head of the Church after all, right? We seemed to be targets of ecclesiastical abuse, along with other Millennial couples and marginalized families. My Spouse and I continued to experience or witness ecclesiastical abuse from our Bishop in this Ward, even through the COVID-19 pandemic. The actions we directly experienced, heard about, and even witnessed led to us considering whether the Leadership of the Church was even practicing doctrinal counsel as laid out in the New Testament, Book of Mormon, and especially the Doctrine and Covenants.
I, along with several other members of our Ward, individually shared our troubling experiences and concerns with the Stake President. The takeaway from these meetings was that the Stake President expressed compassion and concern for our experiences. He listened and told me that he would follow up in his capacity. Yet the actions from that Bishop continued, and even escalated in serious and illegal ways over time.
My Spouse and I raised our hands to oppose the sustaining of this Bishopric in the last Ward Conference we attended (February 2022). In that meeting, I implored the Stake President to keep the targeted members in that Ward safe. I told him in this meeting and one previously that there was a family who seemed to be taking much of the brunt of this Bishop’s abuse. They especially needed to be kept safe. The Stake President stated that he would continue to do what he was doing: minister to this family, and to this Bishop. Not even two months after this meeting, I found out from this dear friend that she and her son were endangered by this Bishop- to the point of this Bishop engaging in illegal actions as a practice of his ecclesiastical authority over this family. The Bishop engaged in actions contrary to the counsel laid out in the Church doctrine, and he could not be stopped until it was too late. I don’t blame the Stake President for this. He likely had his counsel from the General Authority Area Presidency. I now no longer trust that the General Leadership system of the Church can and will protect its members against ecclesiastical abuse that Priesthood leaders can and do engage in. Where is the application of leading Gospel principles when dealing with very apparent unrighteous dominion from local Church leaders (that was repeatedly reported from several members over years)? [1]
When I began to open myself up to asking questions of the systemic leadership practices of the Church, I allowed myself to delve deeper into other questions. More questions and concerns arose in late 2020 due to the disconnect of the Church’s revenue/wealth and how much members were paying into the Church. These concerns generally came to a head when we were “voluntold” to clean the church building- in the middle of a major worldwide pandemic. I had an infant. I work with a population that is particularly vulnerable to death from COVID-19 and other communicable diseases. I did not, and would not, help clean these Church buildings anymore. It is not worth the health of my family, or the people I serve in a professional capacity. I know the Church can afford to employ insured custodial agencies to clean all of their church buildings in the USA (and in the world). Hey, it’s a 100-billion-dollar corporation! Why in the world, if the Church claims to take care of their members and be concerned about their health, require and ask for them to clean the buildings?? To risk their own health and family to clean a community building??? When the Ensign Peak funds were initially leaked, I trusted the response and claims the Church put forth. Elder Causé stated in the Church’s official video response to the Ensign Peak leak a few years ago that this was essentially a savings fund for when a “rainy day” hit.[2] Wouldn’t a pandemic be considered enough of a “rainy day” for them to use their so-called “savings” from Ensign Peak? If a global pandemic is not enough, then what is?
My “aha moment” of the Church refusing to employ insured custodial agencies, especially during a pandemic, led me to further investigate their use of wealth that I could no longer dismiss or ignore. LDS scriptures clearly state that the sole dependence on wealth is sinful and against the teachings of Christ and His Gospel.[3] [4] [5] Yet, the Church is engaging in actions and practices to protect their wealth with no consideration of the poor, underprivileged, needy, or marginalized. The Quorum of the Apostles earn a 6-figure allowance for their “service.” [6] This is on top of their already accumulated wealth from their jobs before their apostolic callings, retirement funds from said affluent careers, and other investments. At least one of the Quorum of the Twelve is already valued at almost one billion US dollars of personal wealth before being called as an Apostle (I.e., Gary Stevenson). [7] The church recently increased their monthly price for young missionaries to serve a mission (from $400 to $500/month). [8] This is at a time when every community in the world is experiencing added financial stress and turmoil. A time when there should not be added burden from the “true church of God” to participate in missionary service. A former prophet stated that there would be a time that the Church could afford to operate without any tithing donations, and that the Church would stop asking members to donate tithes. [9] Yet, we have a current apostle who stated that the Church doesn’t need tithing donations anymore, but members are still expected to pay (even members who earn less than $5/day for their full-time work). [10] [11] So, a prophet’s powerful prophecy seems to be fulfilled, but ignored by his successors in Church leadership. I cannot trust an organization that repeatedly contradicts former prominent leaders. I cannot continue to trust an organization that accumulates wealth in a way the LDS church does, and does not use it to do good in the world. The church could be earning more than an estimated $13 billion annually from membership donations across the world. [12] In 2020, the Church used less than even $30,000,000 of reported monetary spending to aid communities and people and need during the start of the pandemic worldwide. [13] A fraction of one single percent of their income and wealth is going towards the actual welfare of who they call the Children of God- people of the world.
Speaking of the welfare of the children of God, the events of August 2022 sealed my fate to my exit and transition from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. [14] It was the Church’s official responses that led me out, not any other sources (besides my own actions concerning the matter). Any leaders in an organization that would sincerely try to act in good conscience and be active in protecting the vulnerable would do the opposite of what the Church has reported. [15] A “Perfect” church led by imperfect people would be very appalled at the violent abuse reported that occurred in a span of almost a decade. They would be doing all they could to ensure the safety and protection of that (and other) family’s children. Instead, the leaders admitted they knew about the report to the Church’s Help Line. But, all they said they did to help protect those kids was they encouraged the parents -- THE ABUSERS -- to get the kids into therapy so the psychologists would report the abuse. Talk about shirking responsibility in protecting children and the vulnerable. The admission lies in the face of how the abuse cycle works. Repeated studies and evidence show that abusers will isolate their victims. They rarely, if ever, place their victims in a situation where the victims would be helped to escape the abuse, such as mental health therapies. [16] How disingenuous the official response is against how to effectively protect people against violent (or any) abuse. The Church had so much power and resources to stop the abuse in its tracks. Yet, they allowed it to continue for over SEVEN YEARS because of some sort of “repentance process” for the abusers??? Sure, they didn’t “break any laws.” However, how does this response show that the Church leadership follows the counsel in the scriptures of acting on a good cause? Of not being compelled to do good in all things? [17] [18]
I am employed on professional work teams to ensure that abuse from others against a vulnerable population is prevented and reported when it does occur. How can I continue to participate in an organization that says that abuse is abhorrent and unacceptable, but engages in actions that fosters and allows long-term abuse? How can I continue to participate in a religious organization that says one thing about honesty and goodness, but does the opposite? I am angry, heartbroken, and devastated. I spent my entire memory of life in this church, thinking, searching, and believing that this Church (my Church) was one of the greatest sources for good. That it is active in helping bring the marginalized out of marginalization. That this church aims to help protect against and prevent abuse of all kinds. That the Church uses the money donated by its members to be a force of great relief for those in dire need across the world. That it uses the great talents and input from others to make a better world. It is clear to me now it truly does none of those things effectively.
I do not sustain or support the First Presidency, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and the Quorums of the 70s. I do not trust them to have interest in my or others’ full well-being. I am by nature an intellectual with a spiritual side, thanks in large part to my upbringing in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is because of that spiritual intellectualism that I started to consider and delve deeper into “Church-approved” sources than ever before in the last year. The deeper I got, the farther I ran away from my trust in the General Leaders of the Church. The farther I went, the farther I knew I could not and do not trust the Church or its leadership systems. I cannot walk the line of my God-given talents to support the needy while maintaining active membership in the Church. I will not. I cannot walk the line of advocacy for the vulnerable and marginalized while maintaining active membership in the Church. I will not. I cannot remain active in this Church. I will not continue my life as an active Mormon, because I am ultimately trustless and Mormon.

[1] Doctrine and Covenants 121:36-37, 41-42. “The rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven cannot be controlled nor handled only upon the principles of righteousness. That they may be conferred upon us, it is true; but when we undertake to cover our sins, or to gratify our pride, our vain ambition, or to exercise control or dominion or compulsion upon the souls of the children of men, in any degree of unrighteousness, behold, the heavens withdraw themselves; the Spirit of the Lord is grieved; and when it is withdrawn, Amen to the priesthood or the authority of that man. … No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned; By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile.”

[3] Matthew 19:16-24 (KJV). And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wild enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell all that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, that a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

[4] 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV). For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

[5] Jacob 2:18-19. 18 But before ye seek for riches, seek ye for the kingdom of God. And after ye have obtained a hope in Christ ye shall obtain riches, if ye seek them; and ye will seek them for the intent to ado good—to clothe the naked, and to feed the hungry, and to liberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and the afflicted.

[12] Since the LDS Church is not public about their finances worldwide, I had to make some rough estimations as follows:
Roughly 6.8 Mil LDS members in US.
Average wage index in US: $60,575. (https://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/AWI.html)
Estimate average tithe donors: 30% of church members
30% x 6.8mil = 2.04mil tithe donors
10% x $60,575 = $6,575 tithing donation for each average US wage.
2.04mil x $6,575 = $13,413,000,000
Estimated Tithing income from US based on average wage index: $13,413,000,000
United Kingdom tithing income from 2021: $34,408,000. (Based on government-mandated financial reports)

2023.06.01 18:39 Brickwallpictures Why The Father (2020) works so well while The Son (2022) doesn't

Note that the video version of this review includes clips for reference and comparison.
Florian Zeller has directed two films thus far—"The Father" and "The Son"—but don’t mistake him for some new, up-and-coming filmmaker. He’s been around for a long, long time as an author and playwright. In fact, both of his films thus far have been adapted from his own stage plays.
I saw "The Father" right when it came out and was blown away. It was in my top five for the year, and I found it to be an all-around excellent piece of work. My rule for directors is to avoid forming any sort of overall judgment on them until I’ve seen at least two if not three of their movies, and let me tell you, that rule was well-placed in Florian Zeller’s case.
After loving "The Father" so much, I was, unsurprisingly, excited for Zeller’s next film “The Son,” which doesn’t share any characters or plot points but is still something of a spiritual sequel in a dramatic and thematic sense. While "The Father" was one of my top films of the year, "The Son" is tied for my lowest-rated film of 2022 at this point. So, what happened? How does the same writer, director adapting his own source material twice in a row culminate in two pieces of work at opposite ends of the quality spectrum? Unlike a lot of critics, I don’t enjoy being overly negative. I prefer to sing the praises of films I love rather than tear down the ones I don’t, but this is too interesting of a case study to ignore. Rather than just breaking down why "The Son" is a bit of a failure, I’m going to also take this opportunity to explore why "The Father" works so well at the same time. And given that The Son is still relatively new, I’ll avoid spoilers, even though the ending is one of the biggest issues with it. I won’t spoil the father either, so if you haven’t seen one or both, don’t worry.
"The Father" is a chamber drama about an elderly man’s battle with dementia and his struggle to maintain control and order in his life. "The Son" is about man’s struggle to parent a teenager with adolescent depression. Both films are heavy dramas that tackle mental-health subject matter and make for appropriate companion pieces to one another, except Zeller’s writing and directing are at such drastically different calibers for each film.
Notice how I said "The Father" is about a character experiencing a mental health struggle, while "The Son" ISN’T. Contrary to what you might assume or might have been led to believe, "The Son" is not a film about a teenager’s battle with depression, it’s about that teenager’s father dealing with his son’s depression. This distinction could sound minor, but that perspective shift makes a world of difference.
"The Father" is thoroughly grounded in the point-of-view of its main character. The audience is invited into his mind, and Zeller’s remarkable directorial choices replicate the sensations of dementia by disorienting the viewer alongside the character. Actors swap out to play the same role, time contracts and loops in unpredictable ways, and creative editing choices keep the character and the audience off-balance for almost the entire duration. All of these directorial flourishes are flashy and impressive, sure, but they’re also substantive and create such a strong sense of perspective for the deeply personal drama to unfold.
Of course, "The Son" can’t employ the same bag of tricks, but it also makes no attempt to visualize or simulate the burden of depression in the way Zeller tackled dementia. There is no attempt to place the audience in the son’s point of view nor are viewers even invited to understand or empathize with his struggle. This troubled teen is the center of the film’s drama but he isn’t the main character, with the film instead being told from his father’s point of view. To put it simply, "The Father" creates a compelling, distinctive, character-based experience for the viewer through its creative choices, whereas The Son just doesn’t.
This stylistic change on its own could be fine as long as the father character’s perspective felt realized and compelling and as long as the depiction of depression felt real and nuanced from this external vantage point, but the film drops the ball on both counts. Many of these shortcomings stem from Zeller’s script, but the performances need to share some of the burden, unfortunately.
The 2021 Best Lead Performance Oscar race was pretty tight. I would have been happy with Riz Ahmed winning for The Sound of Metal, but Sir Anthony Hopkins winning was a totally worthy pick for "The Father." He really does deliver what I consider to be perhaps his best performance in this role, out of a career that is, of course, filled with many great performances. He taps into a vulnerability that he hasn’t been afforded the runway to express in many years, and he portrays the heartbreaking nature of dementia in a wholly believable way, alongside all of the far-ranging moods and emotions that entails. You also had great supporting performances from Olivia Colman, Olivia Williams, Imogen Poots, Mark Gatiss, and Rufus Sewell to round out the cast.
In "The Son," the adult cast consists of Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, and Vanessa Kirby, while the teenager at the heart of the drama is played by Zen McGrath in his first starring film role. I’m sorry to say that he does not come out of this thing looking good. He’s serviceable in some scenes, but whenever he has to yell or cry, which is frequently, he simply doesn’t deliver the caliber of performance necessary to carry the film. This portrayal of depression isn’t believable in the slightest, and the fault for that can be pretty evenly divided between McGrath’s performance and Zeller’s writing.
I don’t want to put too much blame on McGrath himself though. He’s young and it’s a tough role, and it’s really on Zeller to be able to know that his star isn’t up to the challenge when casting. I also think it’s safe to place the majority of the blame on Zeller because the other performances are weak too, which is always a telltale sign that the fault lies with the director more than the cast. Vanessa Kirby does a fine job, and Anthony Hopkins again shines in his single-scene appearance, but Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern are both extremely far from their best. "The Son" makes the two of them look like much worse actors than they are. They’ve both been great in plenty of other films, but Dern and especially Jackman seem lost and out of their depth in these roles.
I was surprised to learn that this was an important role to Jackman and that he even went out of his way to pursue the film and send Zeller a letter asking for the part, which isn’t something he is in a habit of doing. They are not aided by the fact that the bulk of the dialogue in "The Son" sounds completely stilted and unnatural. It’s the kind of dialogue that might work perfectly well on the stage and/or in French, Zeller’s native language, but in the context of a feature film, it just sounds phony.
Jackman’s other pitfall is his accent. He’s Australian, of course, but has given plenty of convincing American accents in movies in the past. "The Son" is not one of those times. His accent is a mess; it's all over the place. He sounds relatively on target throughout the early stages of the film, but once the drama knob cranks up and he has to get emotional, he loses the accent entirely. He doesn’t slip into Australian but his American accent becomes cartoonish and any commitment to a specific regional accent goes out the window. His fluctuating accent honestly made me laugh a couple of times in the back half of the film.
Zen McGrath is also Australian, and I’ll say I actually think he did a much better job with the accent than Jackman, but it surely didn’t help that he was having to act in a phony accent while already struggling to meet the dramatic demands of the role. But forget about McGrath for a minute; even with the best actor in the world in this part, it would be tough for anyone to make the character believable as he's written. This is such a surface-level, uninformed portrayal of depression. It’s hard to escape the sensation that Zeller lacks the perspective necessary to tell this story in an authentic manner. Given that he says the film was influenced by his experiences parenting a teenager with depression, it makes sense that he would frame the story from the father’s point of view, but neither character feels dimensional or even believable in their actions. Jackman’s character is frustratingly out-of-touch in a way that doesn’t feel based in character as much as it feels emotionally untrue.
It isn’t just the character that feels out of touch but the film itself as well. If you read interviews with Zeller, you will find that time after time he has said that his goal with the film is to raise awareness about depression and mental health struggles in general. That’s all well and good, but it would mean a whole lot more if the film had anything worthwhile to say about its subject matter. The film is content with simply acknowledging that depression exists and is a serious matter. And it’s like, yeah, we all know that, the movie came out in 2022, you’re a little late with that message. Maybe 20 years ago that would have been a worthwhile message to put out there, but you’re a little behind the times. Even the stage-play version of The Son was performed for the first time in 2019, which is still long after depression has been tackled in far more effective ways by dozens of other films. It isn’t enough to just go, "Boy, depression sure is tough, isn’t it?" Especially when your portrayal of depression is so cartoonishly shallow and inauthentic.
This facile depiction of the themes wasn’t an issue in "The Father." Zeller’s presentation of dementia felt remarkably authentic, empathetic, intimate, and lived-in. It felt real, whereas nothing in "The Son" feels real in the slightest. What we’re left with is a film that feels artificial at every turn while insisting that it’s so heavy and emotional and true. It’s melodramatic and emotionally manipulative, and not even effectively so.
I could write another half-dozen paragraphs breaking down why the ending is manipulative B.S., further muddies the themes, and is kind of a slap in the face to anyone who has actually experienced depression, but I said I would avoid spoilers, so let’s end it there.
In closing, I recommend checking out "The Father." Instead of watching "The Son," if you want a film that tackles depression and executes every conceivable element of the filmmaking process infinitely better, I recommend the South Korean film "Peppermint Candy."

2023.06.01 14:19 pabloisaway 24 [M4F] - North America/Online - Trying to settle down

Hi there!
Not super familiar with how this works so I hope you can bear with me for the time being.
About me: 24, nerdy, definitely shy, looking to have a meaningful connection. Something I do try to be up front about is that I have a hearing impairment in my left ear and have to wear a hearing aid. Other than occasionally asking to have something repeated it doesn't affect daily life too much. I am 5'11, hispanic with curly brown hair, and wear glasses.
Hobbies: Video games (mostly PC, recently got a switch and trying to play on that, I can give my friend code out!), reading, anime (not as into it as I used to be, mostly because I don't have anyone to watch with), music (big into hyperpop, piano/violin, indie rock lately but listen to everything and also got a record player), boating/swimming, talking on the phone, spending time with my dogs, and cooking (not the greatest but i really enjoy learning how to cook different dishes, I recently did a garlic/rosemary/lemon salmon and it was fantastic!).
I am college educated and have a stable career, but I am currently exploring other options within my field, which allows me to work remote, so anywhere in the country is really available. I currently live in the midwest but would be willing to move for the right person. I really love what I do for work but it can be a bit boring (medical device engineer).
My ideal type is some that is into big romantics, cheesy/a little clingy, a bit of a nerd and a gamer, and someone who will stick by your side. I don't really have a preference outside of being somewhat close in age but even then it's more about a connection than how many years you have lived. I just want to get to know people and find the right person for me.
If we share some hobbies feel free to reach out! I prefer to talk on discord after we chat a little bit but whatever is easiest.
Thanks for reading if you are still here, and have a great day.

2023.06.01 10:53 unikartgurgaon A Comprehensive Guide to Pursuing an Online MBA: Eligibility, Fees, Placements, and More

Online MBA: A Convenient Path to Professional Advancement in today's fast-paced and highly competitive business world, pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree has become increasingly essential for career growth and success. Traditionally, earning an MBA required candidates to attend on-campus classes, which often posed challenges for working professionals or those with personal commitments. However, the advent of technology has revolutionized the educational landscape, making it possible for individuals to pursue an MBA through online programs.
An online MBA program offers flexibility, convenience, and the opportunity to balance professional and personal commitments while advancing one's education. Let's explore various aspects of pursuing an online MBA, including eligibility criteria, fees structure, placements, entrance exams, syllabus, job prospects, the value of the degree, and the admission process.
Online MBA Program: An online MBA program is designed to provide the same quality of education and curriculum as a traditional on-campus MBA program. It covers various aspects of business administration, including finance, marketing, operations, human resources, entrepreneurship, and strategic management. The program typically lasts for two years and offers the flexibility of asynchronous learning, allowing students to access course materials and lectures at their convenience.
Online MBA Course: The online MBA course curriculum focuses on providing a comprehensive understanding of business concepts, strategic thinking, leadership skills, and analytical problem-solving. Students engage in virtual discussions, case studies, group projects, and assignments to develop practical skills and apply theoretical knowledge to real-world business scenarios. The coursework is often supplemented with industry guest lectures and virtual simulations to enhance the learning experience.
Online MBA Eligibility: Eligibility criteria for an online MBA program may vary among universities, but generally, candidates are required to possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution. Some programs may also require a minimum number of years of work experience in a relevant field. Additionally, candidates may need to submit standardized test scores, such as the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Examination).
Online MBA Fees Structure: The fees structure for online MBA programs can vary significantly depending on the institution, program reputation, and duration. Typically, online MBA programs are more cost-effective than their on-campus counterparts due to the elimination of expenses associated with commuting, accommodation, and campus facilities. It is important for prospective students to carefully evaluate the fees structure and consider financial aid or scholarship opportunities that may be available.
Online MBA Placements: Online MBA programs often offer comprehensive career services and placement support to help students secure employment opportunities. These services may include resume building, interview preparation, networking events, and access to job databases. While placements are generally based on the individual's skills, experience, and performance, the reputation of the institution and its alumni network can also play a significant role in opening doors to lucrative job opportunities.
Online MBA Entrance Exams: Many online MBA programs require candidates to submit standardized test scores, such as the GMAT or GRE, as part of the admission process. These exams assess the candidate's verbal, quantitative, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills. However, some online MBA programs may offer waivers for these exams based on certain criteria, such as relevant work experience or academic achievements.
Online MBA Syllabus: The syllabus of an online MBA program typically covers a wide range of subjects, including core business disciplines and specialized courses. Core subjects may include managerial economics, accounting, finance, marketing, operations management, organizational behavior, and strategic management. Specialized courses allow students to focus on areas of interest such as entrepreneurship, international business, data analytics, or supply chain management.
Online MBA Jobs and Salary: An online MBA opens up diverse career opportunities across industries and sectors. Graduates of online MBA programs can pursue roles such as management consultants, business analysts, marketing managers, operations managers, financial analysts, or entrepreneurs. The salary potential for MBA graduates varies based on factors such as experience, industry, job role, and location. However, an MBA degree often translates into higher earning potential and increased career advancement opportunities.
Online MBA Degree: An online MBA degree holds the same value and recognition as a traditional on-campus MBA degree. Employers today increasingly recognize the value of online education and appreciate the skills and knowledge gained through online MBA programs. Accredited online MBA programs undergo rigorous quality assessments to ensure that they meet the highest educational standards and provide a valuable learning experience.
Online MBA Admission Process: The admission process for online MBA programs typically involves submitting an application form along with academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, and standardized test scores if required. Some programs may also require a personal interview or an essay. It is crucial for prospective students to carefully review the admission requirements and deadlines for each program they wish to apply to.
In conclusion, pursuing an online MBA offers working professionals and individuals with personal commitments a flexible and convenient pathway to enhance their business acumen and advance their careers. With rigorous curriculum, comprehensive support services, and the recognition of employers, an online MBA can be a catalyst for professional growth and open doors to exciting opportunities in the dynamic business world.

2023.06.01 10:46 Herakuraisuto Ellen's announcement vs Real life (S3 spoilers)

Ellen's surprise announcement in S3 plays out almost exactly like former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey's announcement in 2004.

In the McGreevey case, political rivals had become aware of an affair with an aide, and rather than be blackmailed, McGreevey called an unexpected press conference and confessed.

The major difference is that McGreevey put his boyfriend in a sensitive homeland security position he was absolutely not qualified for, and since it was New Jersey and only three years after 9/11, that was a career-killer.

McGreevey went to the podium and told the press "I am a gay American," and tried to make it about coming out instead of the real issue of the aide in a sensitive job.

It worked to a degree, in that the media and the public were much more focused on his sexual orientation, his affair and his family.

But of course lawmakers did not forget about having an unqualified person in a critical security job.

So I think whatever happens to Ellen and Larry, her presidency will be over in one term. It's kind of a moot point anyway because she can't still be president after the time jump, but it looks like those characters will be back in S4 so they'll have to explain at least some of the fallout.

FWIW, in FAM there's no commercial internet, which would have a profound effect on the evolution of social values. I'd expect FAM's universe to change more slowly as a result.

2023.06.01 07:50 Mika95 Is there a place for me?

Hiya, I am a 27 year old gay Home Health aide and writer looking for a change. I want to move to a bigger city, for more opportunities for growth, friends, partners etc. I am from small towns mostly, in Western NY. I am used to the cold, the wet, the windy.
edit- after reading some other posts, I really, really want to get back into working out, so if there are fitness centers nearby any place, i am super down... I found that some apartments have them, so that's cool!
I don't drive, if that is important, and I want to increase my social life. I have a Home Health Aid Certificate four years experience as one, so I can make okay money. I am open to changing my career though, and i am considering going back to college...
Anything you can think of that can help me in this transition, which will hopefully happen next year around April ( once my lease is up and I save money for the transition) is more than welcome. I want to make my life better and I think this could help!
Please, anything you can offer. I want this to work...
I am curious about places to start out, jobs, ideas for fun, dating, etc... anything that makes this path worthy of my time and the effort/fear it is taking to open up.

2023.06.01 06:34 hennyonathursday Advice as guy going to OT school

I am a guy about to go to OT school. Despite the excitement of getting in, I am unsure if this is the right fit for myself. I love everything about the profession and I align my values with OT. I am currently working as a therapy aid at an OT clinic and it has been incredibly stressful being the only guy at the job. The people are nice but I just have a feeling that I don’t belong there. It’s getting a bit lonely at work as I find it extremely tough to communicate with coworkers and I can’t point out exactly why. I always find myself walking in and out clinic without interacting with anyone. i assume it’ll be the same once I am done school since i have been considering doing paediatric if I finish, but now I am heavily considering whether this is the right career path. Of course this can also be my personality as I am on the more introverted side and I am aware there are more women in the industry but however, it is such a different dynamic than everything I’ve encountered, if I am committed to this I might regret later on if I can’t make a change in the mindset

2023.06.01 06:15 senpls My best friend didn't want to help me when I had a potentially fatal allergic reaction

So the other day, my best friend, who also happens to be my roommate, ordered Indian food and offered some to me. I was sick in bed with pneumonia (it's a long story but I was discharged from the hospital due to shortness of breath and difficulty breathing that same morning). Unbeknownst to me, there was cashews in the food and I ate and ingested one, then immediately realized and started to panic because earlier that day, my lungs had nearly ceased function. Plus, I was loopy and still sick. The last time I was fed cashews, my throat started to close and I was rushed to the ER.
This time, I decided not to go to the hospital until I felt it was necessary. I couldn't afford another trip to the hospital.
I told my roommate and relayed to her how serious the allergy was. She kind of just looked up and said "Today is not your day." and got up and started to reheat her food. I emphasized again that I needed Benadryl, and asked if we have some. She said "maybe" and started to look around.
I was not willing to wait for her to find some, so I asked her if she wouldn't mind running to the Rite Aid to get me Benadryl, which is a block away. She then lets out a big, exasperated groan with her head thrown back in the most exaggerated fashion possible. This shocked me. I did not expect this reaction at all.
At this point, I'm stressed and hyperventilating and my heart is pounding irregularly, and my roommate seems *annoyed* as she starts rummaging through her stuff, then goes into our *other roommate's room* (which is off-limits to us) and looks through her stuff, trying to find Benadryl. All the while, I am trying to maintain consciousness as I'm telling her to stop and to please just run to the Rite Aid, it's much faster, and I don't think we have some. My throat is starting to really feel odd, and my heart is beating out of my chest. She doesn't listen to me at all. Eventually she says she'll go, but then ends up picking through our roommate's room for the next several minutes. I end up calling my neighbor, who immediately runs to get it without a second thought.
I can't think of any reason why, after hearing that I'm having a potentially fatal allergic reaction, then being asked for help, she would think to groan. She is a very stubborn person, who is selfish and even unempathetic at times, but we have a close relationship and she clearly cares about me. I can't shake the feeling that maybe I should be understanding because allergies are my responsibility and I should have just called 911 for myself, instead of asking her to help. But I know this is ridiculous. I would've ran out the door to help her even if she was in bed with a simple cold.
Anyways, she told me afterwards that she could take me to the hospital if I needed, so that was nice. But she ended up leaving for her parent's house ten minutes after saying that because of some lame excuse, so in the end she left me alone and didn't say bye when she left, so she kind of negated her kind offer.
TLDR; I had an allergic reaction to cashews and my roommate groaned at my request for her to retrieve medicine from the nearby pharmacy.
