Hey all, long time lurker sometimes poster under a different , hoping to get thoughts on how to best improve my game.
For context, I'm 40, always been a hefty dude since college. I only picked up badminton in 2020, started getting serious around a year ago. Played ~4x a week socials and lost about 20kg.
This is how I played (blue pants) around a year ago, ~107kg, i.e 235lbs.
Here is me (blue pants) yesterday, ~84kg, i.e 185lbs.
I guess positioning, shot selections, and technique wise I'm still really bad. But the thing I'm most in the dumps about right now is that I'm still very often late/pressured to the birdie despite being much lighter. Almost no improvement and I still lose most of my matches this way.
Some of the guys bantered that I move like Kung Fu Panda, still all goofy and jiggly which I guess is fair enough. Any tips on where should I go from here then? I tried HIIT for a bit for faster footwork but that ended up injuring my quads, and coaching is a bit out of the budget at the moment.

Good morning everyone. A ton of earnings since yesterday’s close. A ton! Overall earnings are bad! I project sales for the year of 2023 to be flat to up 5% on SP500 and earnings to be down 3-5%. We earned 218 on the SP500 in 2022. Current consensus for 2023 is 225 and I have it at 208]. In order to see who is right check the earnings year over year. Some people are saying that doesn’t matter! YES, it does! Most businesses have a hot and cold season. In order to weigh your own business, the only way to compare is year over year. Think about yourself. If you are in a commission job, or 1 that is based on performance you would check every month… the year over year earnings. A company/a stock must be weighed year over year, because that is the only accurate measure that we have! You want to pull numbers out of the sky? Make something up to try and make sense of your trade? Look for confirmation bias, cherry pick numbers to reinforce your trades? You do you! Not me! I been trading forever. You cant fool me! Bad news is bad news. PTON dropped sales 23% less than last year [beating lowered estimates] They lost 276 million on just 749 million in sales… Do you really care what the CEO/CFO or any analyst tries to say? The CEO is trying to cherry pick on subs growth, international margins.

You want to spend an hour trying to convince me the report was good, better than expected, you want to say the CEO is confident, bullish…… yeah it may be better than 500 million losses on 750 million sales… but WTF are you cheering?
If you take a test and get a 50 are you going to cheer because you thought youd score a 40?
Well that is what is going on now. NFLX META AMZN TSLA these are lowered guidance beats.
SANDBAGGING
Look, it is your money, you decide what to buy, what to trade. But I only want to buy something that scores high on my standards!
Look above, CCRN . I loved this company. I don’t own shares now, but in 2022 I traded CCRN a ton. A on the go nurse, care giver. They beat lowered estimates, but check year over year sales/earnings… NOPE not me! It is still cheap, but if you don’t grow sales by 10-20% and earnings by 5-10%... You don’t get a passing grade for me.. because its my money!
There are good reports but they are few and far between. As I wrote months ago, you will be hard pressed to find companies with 20% sales growth and 10% earnings growth, and when you do most of the valuations are crazy and those stocks have a premium for it.
MELI HUBS both great reports, but man, the valuations. MELI is growing into a higher valuation with the great reports and making money, HUBS too, but it takes time and constant beats. SEDG I highlighted months ago like an ENPH. I am still watching ENPH as they kill it. They are comparing ENPH to last year when it grew at 100% and started to make money, and are disappointed because its now growing 60% and making money. LOL it is hard to repeat when you grow like weeds. So MELI and HUBS grow at 30-40% but because that is where they were a year ago the stocks take fire… ENPH down because compared to 100% growth 60% is the end of the world? That is why year over year is big! When you look at ENPH year over year and you see the sales growth decline I can see why it concerns you, but it is natural as a company matures, law of sizes. When the company makes more money, and PE falls to 30-40 it will become attractive.
In the long term no stock has a PE ratio of over 100, NONE! 0! They can be up on hype/speculation but to maintain that multiple they must keep delivering…..I like MELI but the valuation, in order to keep 100+ PE they will have to keep crushing and when they don’t it will contract the PE.. ENPH is contracting the PE but the E in PE is growing and the P is coming down so eventually it will be cheap.
WOW, WOW! How fast things move. I was thinking of selling calls on PACW with 2-3 weeks time to collect the premiums. But wow, after FRC cash outflows of 15 billion in a few days, anything can happen! These days to run on the bank:

1 Minute on a cell phone that everyone has, and they can cash out! It is impossible to see who and what is going on with the cash position, impossible. PACW ZION WAL are down so hard it may not even be worth it to sell CALLS. It was worth it yesterday. It is very sad but reality how fast news travels and what it can do to the company. April 25th PACW reported earnings, they were overall decent, I wouldn’t say good, but decent, it was a lot better than expected considering the bank debacle. PACW flew near 12! Now it is crashing in the 3s and for sale.. They said April 25th how outflows on cash had been limited. Several days after FRC …. PACW is for sale… I don’t believe anything the execs are saying! This is a scary!
Powell raises rates .25 to 5.10%. We actually needed rates near 6% but then this bank debacle.

This is very important because we have 2 more CPI numbers before the next meeting.
Recall how everyone called for a pivot and pause last year… I had said we will keep going.
Recall now, how everyone expects rate cuts by year end… I do not!
Current inflation CPI is at 5%
The fed would like us to be around 3.5% by years end December [Given January of 2024] and sometime in 2024 have inflation in the high to mid 2s, aiming for 2% by 2025.
If June 13th CPI is above 4.3% I would say it is 50/50 that we get 1 more hike. If CPI is 4.6% or above 75/25 we will get 1 more hike. I do not believe we will be above 4.6% next month, but if so, 90/10 we will get 1 more hike! BOOK IT!
If we get below a 4.3 CPI 90/10 we will pause…
NO there will be no rate cuts!

Why? I do not see them cutting rates unless we get low 3s by end of the year CPI. Can that happen? Doubt it, but I put us falling to low 3s [3.1-3.3% by years end] at 98% it wont happen!
I can see us falling to 3.5% by years end which is on paforecast with the Fed. So if we get above a 4.3% June 14th it will be 50/50!
When the numbers on CPI get lower like 4s, 3s… it becomes much harder to drop each number. From 9 to 8 you can drop quickly. But once we are under 4, as it drops it is going to be .2 or .1 a month not .5+. Personally, I wouldn’t be shocked if next month CPI is 4.5 and we get 1 last rate hike, but I put that at 50/50. I do not see the Fed doing anymore jumbos

The bank debacle is putting stress on loans, and it is harder to get money. The exact affect on the economy, no one knows, but definitely harder now for sure. I am sending off more information to my bank and hope to close next week.

RHP – A hotel and hospitality REIT, havent traded it in years just added it to plays. I may trade it let me see
LNTH – Medical tech company, smashed earnings last 4 quarters. I traded it last year, let me see, not shares, maybe calls
MARA – Let it rally please, I have done puts 3-4x this year
SCHW – Wow they crushed this below 46 after hours on PACW news. I don’t want to trade the 500 shares as I had been doing. I may do calls, 2000 bets, the fear is real!
SBOW – The earnings were mixed, they missed sales estimates, the sales growth was 8% YOY, earnings are up 200% not fud! Check! They made 4.17 a share, but the sales miss. I have traded SBOW shares about 5x since last year. If they tag this, maybe. I made they made 4.17 last quarter.. in 3 months! PE is going to be under 2! WTF hence I have traded this many times, and I am not happy about the sales growth only 8% but doubled earnings!

Gen G Mobil 1 Racing has made a profound impact on the RLCS with their dominance in North America. 4x Regional Grand Finals, 2x Regional Champs and a Major win is incredibly impressive, especially considering how many people doubted their ability to compete at the very top of the region when they first formed. To be fair, the Gen G doubters were not entirely off-base at the beginning. Gen G failed to qualify for main event through the Top 16 qualifier, losing to CoL, NRG, and FaZe, and went 3-1 in closed quals for the first event. They looked like a solid main event team, but nothing to fear. Ever since then, Gen G have been playoff bracket monsters, and dominated any team that stood in their way on their path to the finals. Something that interests me about this team is how they have pulled so far away from the other teams the region without being perfect.
When looking at other regions, like MENA last year with Team Falcons, their was clear domination from the top team compared to their competitors. It was shocking when they lost a game, much less a set (though this has changed a little with Rule One and other teams providing more of a fight this season). This type of perfection is, frankly, impossible to have in regions like NA/EU. The level of competition at the top is much more evenly balanced, and sometimes having formats that can eliminate teams with only one set loss can create variance at the top by having the two "best" teams meeting before the final.
So how has Gen G been able to get to the finals?
Have they been getting the 1 seed in the playoff bracket and farming easy brackets?
No. In fact, Gen G has never had a perfect group stage, but that actually might not be a bad thing with single elimination playoffs. Looking at the Fall split in NA/EU from the past 2 seasons, out of the 24 teams that made it to the finals, 5 teams went 3-0, 14 teams went 3-1, and 5 teams went 3-2. When looking at the 12 winners, only 1 went 3-0 (G2 last year in Fall 3), 8 went 3-1, and 3 went 3-2. This isn't saying going 3-1 is better, but when everyone is put on elimination in the playoff regardless of how well they did in groups, there is very little benefit of actually being perfect when the top level of teams is so competitive.
On the most recent Chalked Cast (at around 53 minutes), Jack said being the 3 seed (Best performing 3-1 team) is the "perfect recipe" to win, you don't want the 1st or 2nd seed. He didn't really elaborate, but my assumption is that 3-1 gives the security of not being on elimination point in Groups while also giving the team an opportunity to learn from their mistakes early on in the tournament, rather than having those same mistakes in the playoff bracket end your tournament. To highlight losing is learning, 3 other teams that made all the NA Fall Regionals had fewer set losses than Gen G (6), those teams being FaZe (4) , SSG (4), and G2 (5). Despite losing more sets, they were able to take lessons from those losses and not repeat them in their runs to the finals.
When taking a deeper dive on the 3rd seed in Swiss, Jack is really onto something. Out of the 12 Swiss events in NA/EU for the past 2 seasons, the 3 seed specifically has had a high rate of success.

Obviously this is a small sample size of only 12 tournaments and is just NA and EU being looked at here to focus on the most competitive regions, so this isn't the end all be all for the Fall format itself But looking at these results, the 3 seed has ended up in the finals 7/12 tournaments, compared to 3/12 for the 1 seed and 2/12 for the 2 seed. If you were wondering about the Majors, none of the 3-0 teams made it to the finals in the Fall. 21-22 had BDS as the 4 seed beat NRG the 6 seed, while 22-23 had Gen G as the 3 seed beating Moist the 8 seed. Gen G specifically were able to cook up their perfect recipe 3/4 times in the Fall, being the 3 seed three times and 8th seed once in regionals.
How does Gen G continue this dominance in the Winter?
This mindset can also apply to the new Winter format. Last year, the benefit of winning the group was MASSIVE. The Group winner would get to start in winners bracket and avoid all the extra sets in losers bracket. Now with single elimination, the benefit of winning groups is noticeable, but not as big since group winners are still put on elimination after being perfect. In both NA and EU so far, not only were the winners of the Winter Open both the number 1 overall seed, but also 2-1 in groups AND got their runback in the finals against the team that beat them in groups. It will be interesting to see if this trend of losing 1 set will produce more tournament winners than being perfect in NA/EU.
Larger Perspective:
To put Gen G's dominance in perspective, since the open circuit format was introduced in RLCS X, only 1 other time in NA/EU has a team appeared in all 3 regional finals AND the major final in the same split. That team being Team Queso (Moist Esports) in the Winter Split of 21-22.
Other teams have come close to being as dominant, being in 3/4 finals in a split. Those teams being:

• BDS and NRG in Season X Fall and Winter
• NRG in 21-22 Fall and Winter
• G2, Moist, and BDS in 21-22 Spring
• KCorp in 22-23 Fall

All this to say we witnessed something truly special with Fall Gen G, and they are showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. They are, self-admittedly in their Winter Open interview, "beatable" and it will be very interesting to see how they perform in double elimination next split, where there are more severe consequences for losing early on. But for now in this split, teams most certainly do not want to see Gen G on their bracket path.

Tournament Information

After BFC pulled funding and putting the event in jeopardy , the casters' HisandHersLive have decided to sponsor the tournament themselves. Tonight's epic matches wouldn't have been possible if not for their initiative.
Personally, I've been eagerly awaiting this series as it will be our first look at competitive apex after the recent changes to the game. The introduction of Newcastle as well as the changes to SP should spice up the experience.
