Hey ho guys,
So I have finally successfully landed a Software Engineer position in Zürich. Since it would be very beneficial for me to settle down and find a rent in the ZH Kanton, I would love to have some recommendations, how to start a life there. The area is a preference because of how my contract discloses home office work.
I'm reading the sub constantly and to be honest, I am a bit scared, since it looks like it's quite easy to choose a fraudulent ISP or mobile provider, real estate market is in a horrible state. I have read some stuff which was scary at first glance since I know, here in Austria I am protected by those things and based on some comments here in the sub, Swiss law doesn't provide such protection in every case.
What I would love to have recommended: - ISP (Internet Service Provider) - would be nice if they had cable coverage all around the Kanton with at least 100Mbps stable connection.
- Mobile data/new mobile phone provider - I'm planning to buy a new phone as my current one is old and in a really bad shape already. What I would like to have is unlimited (at least 35GB) data in CH and also probably min. 10-15GB of data in EU with fair amount of minutes for calls. I would like to buy the phone in a package so I pay a monthly fee for it along with the whole package (data, new number etc.).
- Tips, advices about finding a proper rent - I would like to avoid real estate agents and companies. I'm already anxious about paying probably 2k CHF/month + 3 month deposit for a flat, I would like to avoid additional fees on that amount, since it would be really tight already. I DON'T WANT TO MOVE INTO ZÜRICH. I would like to move north from the City in a nice, green area with direct train connection to the Hardbrücke station. My budget is around 2k CHF/month for rent. The cheaper the better, but I'm willing to pay more for quality place and nice neighborhoods.
- Anything I need to know regarding cars, leasing and insurance there. I'm a huge car geek and I'm planning to buy a sportscar basically as soon as I can. I don't want to race and rally inside CH and I also know about the strict speed limit laws. That's why I want to move to the direction of Germany.
These are the things coming into my mind, I'm sure there is more, but I'm currently overwhelmed with all the administrational work I have to do leaving Austria and moving to CH. If you have any more advice, hint, lifehack or good things to say to someone who is planning to move around Zürich, I would gladly take it!

Hey Redditors of Banff!
I do see at least two other posts in the last 24 hours about itineraries...so I apologize for adding onto the pile. My husband and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary in a couple of weeks with our first trip to Jasper & Banff. We're very excited and I've been planning for months. This and various other related subreddits have been incredibly useful to our planning, and I just want to be sure I'm not forgetting anything that could throw a major wrench in the works. I tend to get long-winded so I'll try to keep it brief, but a quick analysis of our plans would be super appreciated!
We land in Calgary from California late at night on Tuesday June 13. We have a hotel room in Calgary that night, and will pick up our rental car first thing in the morning.
June 14: Drive to Banff and pick up a few supplies (specific supplies listed at the bottom of post) and up to Jasper, with various short stops along the way including Bow Lake, Mistaya Canyon, Boundary Lake, Athabasca Falls, and Cavell Pond. We realize it is a long day of driving, we're used to that, and will drop stops as needed. Hotel in Jasper reserved.
June 15: A few short hikes and stops including Morro Peak and Medicine Lake, and anything in the area we missed the day before; campsite reserved outside of Jasper.
June 16: A couple longer hikes around Jasper, and a campsite reserved outside of the townsite.
June 17: Hike out of Portal trailhead to Tonquin Valley (backcountry campground reserved)
June 18: Explore Tonquin Valley area (second night at backcountry campground)
June 19: Exit via Portal trailhead, lunch in Jasper, drive to Banff. Hotel in Banff reserved.
June 20: Sunrise at Moraine Lake, tickets booked through Moraine Lake Bus Company. Later, a hike; we have a list of possibilities (will put below itinerary). Hotel reserved.
June 21: Hike from Mt. Shark trailhead; backcountry campground reserved.
June 22: Hike into Assiniboine area; backcountry campground reserved.
June 23: Goin' bougie with a heli ride out to Mt. Shark trailhead. Campground reserved outside of Banff townsite.
June 24: Choosing hike from list of possibilities. Campground reserved.
June 25: Same as 24.
June 26: Hike out from Healy Pass trailhead. Backcountry campground reserved.
June 27: Hike back out. Hotel reserved in Dead Man's Flats.
June 28: Fly back to California
Banff hike possibilities include: Lake Agnes and Plain of Six Glaciers, Rawson Lake to Sarrail Ridge, Mt. Rundle, and Cascade Mountain. Other hike recommendations welcome--I'm bringing all my photography gear and won't say no to more photo-taking options. We can handle longer distances/more strenuous terrain; we live in Yosemite.
I ordered and received our Discovery Pass quite some time ago. I know we need a Kananaskis Conservation Pass for Mt. Shark trailhead, but I didn't seem to be able to buy one without a license plate number, which I don't have because it's a rental car--but I also didn't see anything indicating it's on a quota system, so am I correct in assuming I can purchase it when we arrive?
We also need to pick up bear spray, isobutane, and possibly some backpacking meals; while I know we could probably get these at most any store, we're also gear junkies. So outdoor gear store recommendations, specifically any in Banff townsite, would be sweet.
Other than that...am I forgetting anything?

My (F48) partner (M48) has had the habit of not talking to me for days when there has been a fight or even a disagreement.
We’ve been in a relationship for 5 years now and this happened more frequently in the first few years and happens less frequently now. The last times were July 2022 and October 2022.
In the years we have lived together (we don’t currently due to other circumstances) this would mean barely speaking to me for a day or two, three. But there would be some communication around logistics and I felt slightly more secure thinking that we are living together- he’s gonna have to come around sooner or later.
However in the years we have not lived together (such as now), it will look like not calling, maybe one very distant and dry WhatsApp on one day and then nothing the next day, or only the very very bare minimum and only if needed (like mailing an official document that I also needed to read or whatever).
In the first few years when it happened more frequently - thinking back on the topics of the disagreements- I can totally imagine that he really needed to distance himself from the situation and use that time to think about how to go forward and whether it was healthy to stay in the relationship. Nevertheless I’ve always thought it’s not a good tactic to just temporarily ghost somebody.
Whilst I understand the early years, I think I’ve really been traumatized by the last two times I mentioned. In July, There was no fight, it was me crying on the evening of last day of our holiday because I had a lot going on that I didn’t want to bother him with. He interpreted it as me crying over something he had done (he started the evening out irritated with me so he thought that’s why I was crying). In October we had an animated disagreement.
None of which warrants days of being given the silent treatment.
Apart from this we are really good together. He is super loyal, caring, generous, loving, with good values and a good character etc. I love him with all my heart and I know very well that he lives me too.
I just also know that he never learnt how to deal with intense feelings of irritation or anger that can arise in him - and then he then needs time to cool down. He says he does it so that he doesn’t do anything that could damage the relationship (like saying stuff in anger). He says he never runs away from me, but from the situation. For context his family was very volatile and there was always lots of shouting and fights and him getting stuck between all the fighting as a child. I know one of the things he values most are peace and quiet and a calm chill relationship.
My post is actually not to understand him better (although if you can provide insight that would be appreciated too). My question is rather that I need to understand my own feelings about this. And how to move forward if at all.
I’ve never really discussed this behavior in detail with him. I’m always to grateful it’s over and happy to have him back that I have never really brought his “coping mechanism” up. I did two weeks ago though. - and i simply mentioned once that I would not live through this again because I feel like it crushed my soul the last two times. Knowing him, and knowing we discussed a lot of other serious things too, this may not have landed. I did also say that it’s ok to take some time and distance to come to your senses, but that he needs to communicate that that’s what’s happening. Something like “I’m upset and I need some time but I love you and I’ll check in tomorrow with you.” He did say that he can’t guarantee that he’ll have the presence of mind to do that when he’s that level of upset or angry.
I am built a bit differently- I bottle things up and I know if he does this once or twice more there won’t be coming back from this and it will be like a switch that flicked in my head and I will never want to see him again. I don’t want to tell him this so clearly because I feel like I know that he will do it again and so saying this to him now will mean that I now signed the relationship’s death.
I’m probably looking at this all wrong but I can’t get past this in my head and I don’t allow myself to think of a future with him because of this.
Can anybody explain why people do that and what my position should be and how to get it through to him?

I have my conjecture that when Gohan transforms into Beast form and kills Cell max then at the same time we return to the planet Beerusa where the oracle fish will say in his sleep that right now the strongest warrior has just been born. Such a pairing of one with the other, especially since Super Hero marketing and Akira Toriyama shot the narrative around Gohan that he is the strongest of all when he wants it.
Because, on the one hand, Fish never said that such a person had appeared, and all the time she was teasing this event she didn't comment on either Granolah or Frieza and didn't even know who Gas was. I have a feeling that this whole time it was a set-up for Gohan who will unlock a new form and become the strongest again in just like in the Cell saga.

I had a video but this sub doesn't allow them I see now.
So we go outside numerous times a day.. and I was going insane with the constant swiffering and mopping. Like seriously so over it.
This has been a game changer. Absolutely worth the money.
I will say some cons :
This thing takes forever to do my 1800sq² home.... mainly because of battery life.
1 pass does not mop the floors THAT great if you have alot of dirt. After 1 pass of vacuum+mop I always do 2+ more passes with just mopping mode.... soo it takes a while.
For example we recently did lawn prep for sodding and the dirt on the floors lasted for days. It took probably 3 or 4 days of the robot mop constantly going for hours daily downstairs (until battery runs out..) until the floors looked fairly clean and the dirty water was closer to clear than brown. I ended up doing my upstairs myself just to get the job done.
Dried mud prints can & often need more than 1 pass. Hot water mixed with a tiny drop of Blue Dawn Dishsoap works well (I don't put cleaning solution on my floors.. except vinegar+water every now and then).
The battery life is super annoying to me.
For example, today I started at 100%, it is 2/3s of the way complete downstairs... and already on 58%. I will need to let it charge a bit before doing the 2nd pass downstairs with Mop only.
Charging back to 100% takes 6 hours... soo yeah. This thing takes a while.
However.. you can let this thing go daily and then you yourself just have to mop by hand once a week or biweekly to do a deep clean (this helps to ensure dirty water runs clear).
You can set it to specific spots of the house too (like the high traffic areas) which I often do.
Maintenance. After 1 month if having this thing though, I use it so much that I have a warning to replace the little rotating debris brush within 60some more uses bc theyre worn. I also have a warning to replace the mop pads soon. I had to change out the dirt bag within 4 weeks of use which is normal (and the lawn prep work realllllyyy had a crazy amount of dirt through my home) Other maintenance like wiping dust off sensors or cleaning the dust bin parts happened 2 or 3 times in 4 weeks which wasn't a big deal bc takes a few minutes.
Is it worth it ? For me yes. I can not stand dirty floors and like to have my dirty water run clear. I am constantly outside with my dog and so dirt gets tracked inside daily (despite wiping his paw pads or even hosing them off).
It is so nice waking up and not having the dread of having to do your floors again from the mess the day before.
Also, before the robot, keeping up with the disgusting amount of dog hair under your socks was impossible. Hopeless. Our socks have way less dog hair on them now.
It saves you ALOT of time and energy and stress from having to do your floors constantly.
Newer models should improve -- This usually lands within Top 3 on the market (on Youtube reviews). I got this on sale for $1000.00cad from Costco.

After months and months of job rejections, I managed to do what I thought was impossible: get a job from networking. There were so many red flags from the start, but I ignored them all. Long story short, I was working an event for my college job and I was introduced to someone who we’re gonna call John (all names I used are completely made up) John was super nice, and he asked me what I was majoring in. Once I told him he got super excited and asked if I was looking for a job. His company needed someone to run their social media accounts, and I was a marketing major so it seemed like a pretty good deal.
The problem was the job listing didn’t exist. No matter how hard I looked I couldn’t find it anywhere, so I just had what he was telling me to go off of. I went in for an interview (I believe I was the only person ever interviewed) and it went amazing. John was super supportive, and everything he told me I was gonna do sounded right up my alley. He made the company sound amazing, and I really felt like I would fit in. Then, when I got the job everyone was so happy for me. Everyone in my life thought I had insane luck, and I finally felt like I was done with the hardest thing I would have to deal with for a while. I declined an offer to stay with the company I was interning at because the pay was a joke, and I felt like life was amazing.
It’s been a month, and now I know all of that was a complete lie. Everything from his personality to the job he told me about was entirely made up. In my first week I was told that the main thing I would be doing wasn’t any marketing, but instead secretary work for someone we’re gonna call Alyssa. Alyssa is misogynistic, a terrible person, and horrible at training. The job isn’t anything that I signed up for, and I would’ve rejected it immediately if I would’ve known.
I feel tricked and lied to. The few times I’ve seen John since he has been incredibly rude and condescending. The company culture is horrible, everyone hates each other and we all spend our lunch breaks eating lunch in our cars. Alyssa gives me severe anxiety because she expects me to understand every little thing with no training, even though we both know I have absolutely no experience or education in this type of work.
I’m in the process of applying to new jobs and interviewing, but it’s almost impossible considering they gave me so few PTO days and I had a stomach virus so I used a lot already. I can’t just leave because I need a job to pay for my apartment, and I signed a lease. I’m just so pissed at myself for thinking I had something good for once, and pissed at the company for tricking me.
Everyday I wake up depressed and when I go home I’m even more depressed because that means I have to do it all again tomorrow. I take daily crying breaks in the bathroom, and I feel like a waste of space. I don’t want to die, and I know that for a fact, but everyday I look out the window and think how easy it would be and how it would be all their faults.
I hate my life. I had a bright future, amazing grades, and numerous awards but somehow it’s all gone to waste.

So, we stand here again. Void-Worms orbiting a star made of the dreams of the dead. The song we all sing continue echoing into the unreal angles of the endless void, while the star throbs. Behold as the light it beams into our brains unfolds as the stories, as told by a strange bird. How wonderful. Surely, we can sit back and enjoy... What is that? What the... Can't be. A rogue transmission?
The train is mostly empty. It is silent. There is nothing about him that stands out. He looks generic and forgettable. So generic and forgettable that the ticket inspector lady just walked past him, not noticing he was there at all. So utterly unremarkable that his own parents would not and could not pick him out of a crowd. His headphones are on his ears, but there is no sound in them. He absent-mindedly clutches a backpack to him, like all his clothes, it is generic and worn. His eyes stare blankly, nearly unblinking, on the forests and fields that the train passes. Behind his flesh, inside the brain there is something going on however. Something strange, maybe horrific, maybe wondrous. He doesn't see the train around him. He doesn't see the landscape passing by. He used to need the music to keep focus on what he does see, but he no longer needs it. Now he sees the world of stories always.
His eyes see shimmering metallic towers, where scholars search for answers to unspoken problems of the future. Inside of them man and machine are increasingly working together becoming more and more entwined. He sees a young man and a young woman working together on a marvellous project, the first body for a thinking machine-mind. It is animalistic and wild, yet also loving and kind, and the body will fit the mind perfectly. The two of them are cyberhunters, who have trained their minds to enter the world behind the computer screens of the futuristic city, to hunt down rogue mind-uploads and wild super-viruses that threatens the security of the future. They found the AI in the wild cyberspace that stretches between the remaining cities of man; they love it like a child and worship it like a god. It will be the ultimate synthesis, the entity raised by man, born of machine, and heir to both worlds.
The man blinks. Now he sees forests. Ancient, wild, and primordial. Not at all like those that have grown after mankind came to dominate the world. He hears the wounded knight before he sees him. There, with arrows in his back, comes the knight. His every step is agony, and the dreaming man knows them as if he was the knight himself. The knight is carrying a sleeping child, saved from a burning castle. The knight has pushed himself to the very limits of his physical capacity. His breath is ragged. His last strength is used to wake the girl and place her on the back of the largest of the unicorns. She is too young to understand now, but this is the only thing he can do for her. He watches with a mournful satisfaction as they calmly ride off into the magical glades with the girl. She waves to him. And he smiles. It is the last thing he does before he dies.
The man on the train blinks again. He sees the ocean, blue, beautiful and wondrous. An old woman is feeding a sea dragon. Oh how she laughs as the silly creature dances for her upon the blue ocean. Oh how the sweet creature enjoys its task of protecting the kind old woman. Of dragging her boat through the wide blue seas. She is heading to the First Water, from whence all creatures were once born. And there she will speak to the Mother-of-Salt and the Father-of-Wind. There she will commune as have a thousand of her ancestors before her, to keep the world safe, the water clean, and the sky clear. There she will dance the last dance upon the fires of the Old Realm. There she will burn as a dance, and her ashes shall be cast into the Pit of Life, from whence she shall emerge, reborn as a being of the sea itself. But for now, there is her old voice singing half-remembered songs to the sweet silly sea dragon, and there is a joyful journey. Perhaps when she is changed, reborn, they will swim back to the Waters-of-Men together.
The man on the train blinks again. And he sees a high-speed chase in a Neon-version of Tokyo. He blinks once more, and he stands atop a great mountain, watching a friendly Yeti carrying a stiff mountaineer to a warm cave. He blinks again and maybe he sees you, running down a hallway carrying a briefcase full of evidence against your enemies. He blinks and he sees himself fighting himself with a blade. He opens his eyes. His train has arrived at the station. Wordlessly he stands up, and gets off of his train. Only the necessity of movement keeps him from falling back into the stories.
Well then. That was weird. Wonder who that was. Hopefully, stories haven't consumed you as much as all that. Maybe. Or maybe all we who float in the void together are, is a fragment of the imagination of the man of the train. Maybe all of us, maybe me, maybe you. - We’ve been discussing this. Extra Hero burning features. This one is an idea with merit, but we need time to focus on it. Depends on priorities, but we’re not focused on adding new burn mechanics just yet.
Question 2
On prioritizing burn mechanics – what are your thoughts on where that priority is?

- Understands the concerns. Focused on the Combat System (which leads to future gameplay features). This is a higher priority, to get out more engaging gameplay.
- We want to attract new users.
- Burning is important, but limited ‘bandwidth’ on what we can focus on at any given time.
- Solutions sound simple, but they’re not that easily implemented.

Any update on Level 10 Mining and Yellow Eggs?

- It’s in the pipeline. Waiting on pet art (it’s time intensive).
- Focused on taking care of Combat system, which is drawing labor from that.
- There are a couple of other things first that are coming out. Can’t say what they are yet.

Can we get a more defined definition of a “tick” in the speed formula?

- A “tick” itself is a generic time unit. It doesn’t mean anything but where you put the lines on your ruler.
- A Hero’s turn doesn’t have to occur exactly on its tick. It could land on 2.76. It’s not discrete.
- Think of it like a generic time that is continuous. The next Hero’s turn might 2.56 or 5.70. Those numbers won’t be displayed as numbers.
- Turn order will be intuitive and displayed.

When can we expect hero sorting?

- Our plan is for equipment to be visible on Heroes.
- Once Weapons and Armor and Accessories are available, they will change Hero appearance.
- Have discussed a “skin” system.
- Haven’t thought about changing hair styles, or other cosmetic traits.
- Attached to Equipment. So will approach this in the future when that releases.

- Discussion has involved retrieving these more likely from Combat.

I think this demo is really interesting because it's consumer applicable. While it's still an internal application, but I imagine once it goes live, if not used by trolls to poison the a.i. deliberately, it could be used to:

1. provide immediate feedback to customers to help them find what they want
2. directly provide market data (both sales and preferences) to vehicle manufacturers for what potential buyers actually want

The ability to filter and refine responses is amazing too.
I can imagine that at some point, someone may try to integrate all the data sources out there, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Autotrader, Cars.com, Cars and bids, Bring a Trailer, Top Rank, Japan Auto Auctions, and ad infinitum.
You could setup automated alerts to find that highly desirable 80-series Land Cruiser with a manual transmission or that Autozam AZ-1 whenever it hits the states. Or maybe just to find an affordable Honda Civic Hybrid from the early 2000s for your kid's first car.
Now apply this to nearly every consumer industry, you won't be getting rid of customer support representatives, but you'll be giving them a tool to provide customers with more decision making info (read: actionable intelligence).

This isn't something new, but it gives a whole new "human readable" spin to what Palantir can do with data and insights.
We can collect data, but analyzing it is hard because it's not structured nor arranged in a meaningful manner.
Palantir can help add structure to that data by tagging properties in terms of time, physicality, and relationship building context.
And the Analysis portion has actually always been performed by the human because we're the ones w/ the experience. We're the ones asking the questions building upon our own understanding of the world, this is our ontological understanding, but that's not really all there is, right?
There's the need to actually utilize the platform and do so with a very deep technical understanding of it. This is a technical hurdle, or wall, or silo, whatever you want to call it that prevents stakeholders from utilizing this. Typically you'd need to be paired with an experienced platform-specific analyst to do work.
Utilizing AIP, people will be able to combine the Data, the Context, and the Analysis without the needing to understand the technical layer of the platform.
Again, nothing ground breaking, but making it available to everyone is. This is why explaining "TAM" is so pointless because everyone who wants a deeper understanding of their "world" could benefit from data analysis and pull meaningful value.

Since a lot of us are interested in goalie prospects for the future and not much information about them are shared by the scouts and the medias, I decided to personally scout them over the last 2 months. I obviously am not a professional and do this as an amateur to give my opinion and more informations to the community about the 2023 Draft-eligible goalies.
Methodology : I've scouted 18 goalies, watched between 2 and 8 games (exception of Thomas Milic where I watched 12 games) depending on avaliability of tapes and level of interest I had in each of them. I've come out of it with a top-5 of my favorites and 1 HM. All stats and specific datas as Height, Weight etc. are taken from Elite Prospects. PS : Stats obviously played a factor in the rankings, but you have to put some of them in perspective since stats depends a lot on the league they play, the level of their team in general, their opponents and other circumstances. I prefered to rely on my eye-test, the abilities of the goalies and their general strengths/weaknesses.

HM : Noa Vali, 6''0, 154lbs, Left catching - TPS U20, U20 SM-sarja, Finland.
I absolutely loved watching Vali. In the U20, he posted a 0.912 in 29 GP before being an absolute dog in the playoffs posting a 0.930 facing high-volume shooting and a lot of dangerous situations. He's ranked 4th amongst EU Goalies according to NHL Central Scouting but isn't really projected to be drafted by many, or could be taken as a late-round flyer. Tried to put that away of my mind watching him and I think he is absolutely worth of a draft-pick. Risk is high but reward could also be phenomenal. Out of the 18 goalies I've watched, he's the one who made me anxious the most. Dude's an absolute puppy, skating everywhere to get the puck, causing turnovers but also great transitions and puck movement for his team. It's weird to say but it almost looked like Vali was getting bored and wanted to challenge himself skating almost to the face-off dots sometimes lol. But don't get me wrong, it doesn't represent the whole character, Noa Vali has excellent speed, agility and his technique is top-notch. When he's in his net, he's in complete control and doesn't make many mistakes. I'd add that outside of those yolo moments, he actually has a great IQ for the game and knows when to defy shooters, when to stay in his crease etc. His weaknesses are obviously his size ; at 154lbs, you don't take a lot of space in that net. Even if it's a bit compensated by his good lateral movements, it's still not enough. Goes with that consistency issues. Like I said, he has questionnable moments and also seemed to get bored (maybe because of the caliber he played against). It's part of his game and it's fun sometimes, but he need to chill on brain farts like this to unlock another gear in his game. I am also a bit concerned about injuries for him. He is projected to play for TPS in the top Finnish-league next year.
5th : Carson Bjarnason, 6''3, 181lbs, Left catching - Brandon Wheat Kings, WHL, Canada.
I'll start by saying that Bjarnason has mediocre stats. 0.900 in 47 GP, which was 16th in the WHL for goalies with 20+GP. Although, Brandon was a pretty bad team and I see Bjarnason as a project. He's surprisingly listed 1st amongst NA Goalies according to NHL Central Scouting. Other rankings generally projects him to go between pick 40 and 60. He doesn't have any major holes in his game from what I saw. Dude got two solid arms, both glove and blocker sides are solids, he seems to have a great puck-tracking on shots in general and anticipate pretty well deviations. He showed a solid progression during the year and his game definitly looked better and better the further it was getting in the season. Only concern to me was his adaptability. When the pace of the play was switching (ex : Lateral puck-offense to a forward rushing the net), I thought he was slow to change position and get ready for whatever was coming at him. He was also giving up too easily on plays for my taste (can be symptomatic of playing behind a poor defense). Could use a little bit more weight too, but I'm not concerned about a 181lbs 17 y/o. Probably a goalie that will need his full junior years and few seasons in the AHL before making the jump, he's still very raw. He normally should continue to be the starter for Brandon next season.
4th : Adam Gajan, *Overager x1, 6''3, 176lbs, Left catching - Chippewa Steel, NAHL, US.
Gajan might be a familiar name to a lot of you. He was the Slovak goalie at the last WJC and was brilliant. He was named (rightfully so) goalie of the tournament. First thing to note is that Gajan went undrafted last year and enters this draft as an overager. Sometimes goalies take more time to develop and him making the transition from Slovakia to North America definitly impacted his visibility and how high scouts are looking at him. He's currently projected to likely go somewhere in the 3rd round, which is a big jump for an overager goalie. He posted a 0.917 in 34 GP in the NAHL. I like Gajan principally for his positionning. He's always at the right place at the right time, and god he is athletic. He could become a real hightlights-machine. His size is good and the amazing moving abilities compensate for the light lack of frame. The main negative is the league he's playing in. When coming from Slovakia, he went to the NAHL and the opposition is definitly not good enough to give us a great idea of how Gajan could develop, even if we clearly see his impressive skillset. Next year he's commited to the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the NCAA, it should give us better indications. He also tends to give too many rebounds, especially on blocker-side shots. I like him a lot but it's hard to throw a 3rd, potentially 2nd round pick for an overager who will have to prove what he can do against good opposition in his 20 y/o season.
3rd : Michael Hrabal, 6''6, 209lbs, Left catching - Omaha Lancers, USHL, US.
Michael Hrabal is a fascinating case for me. Largely due to his size, he's seen by many scouts as the best goalie of this draft class. Even if I agree that he has solid potential and is pretty safe to make the NHL, I don't think he has the most upside in this class and I still think people tend to overrate some players a bit when they are big fellas. Don't get me wrong, Hrabal is a great goalie. 0.908 with one of the worst USHL team is almost miraculous. He has size but is still agile and pretty quick, which is a rare combination. He was solid in Czechia before, his NA transition was smooth, he stood out on international competitions, everything is screaming NHL with Hrabal. He's commited to UMass for next year and I think he's gonna be fantastic there. His poise and rebound controlling are excellent as well. I am just personally scared to use a pick that could be as high as late first-round to get a goalie like Hrabal whose ceiling might be limited. His consistency is not always there and he sometimes has a hard time to track shots from the point (which is curious when you're 6''6). He's also very comfortable in his crease and doesn't go out much to defy shooters, which can turn into him letting pretty soft goals in. I like Hrabal but I have a certain hesitation to grab him too high, where he will probably get taken. I think there will still be 2 better options there or even later.
2nd : Jacob Fowler, 6''2, 201lbs, Left catching - Youngstown Phantoms, USHL, US.
Now we're entering the zone where I'd be down to use one of our 30s pick to draft the goalie. Jacob Fowler is simply amazing. I'll start with the weaknesses because the list is pretty short to me ; Blocker side needs improvement, some of his lateral movements are not super fluid (could definitly use a skating coach) and per default he gets beaten 5-hole a bit too often. That's it. The rest in simply great. He's capable of sick reaches with his glove, his puck tracking is amazing, very efficient on deflections or long-distance shots, has great size and take a lot of space in his net. rebound-control is solid and from the informations I read/heard, he's an absolute workhorse on and off the ice. I mean, his 49 GP (0.921) is a good indication already, but his coaches seem to praise a lot is work-ethic. He's a real athlete, in amazing physical condition and has a winning mentality. What stands out the most with him IMO tho is his puck handling abilities. I don't really see other top-end goalies in this class that can move the puck like him. He's not afraid to go out of his net (but usually makes it at the right time and doesn't overcommit). Really helps his team to have better transitions and reduces the risk of his defenders getting outworked in the end of the zone for puck-retrieval. Fowler is commited to play for Boston College in the NCAA next season.
1st : Trey Augustine, 6''1, 179lbs, Left catching - USNTDP, US.
For me, Augustine is the best goalie in this draft. I had a hard-time to chose between him and Fowler, but he ended up on top. He was pretty much conscensus to be the 1st goalie to go in the draft before a lot of people turned their head to Hrabal, but I don't see how he's not the most promising there. Maybe a lower floor than some others, but definitly the highest-ceiling, and that's one of the most important thing I'm looking at. He's been successful everywhere he played (0.926 in the NTDP, 0.928 in the USHL, 0.934 at the WJC) and I'm sure he'll also be great with Michigan State (NCAA) next season. Scouts mostly having him going in the 40-50s picks, but honestly don't get suprised if he's taken late 1st round. His positionning is on-point, his reflexes and movements are fluid and quick, his vision is amazing (and when I'm saying vision, it's not only that he sees puck, he anticipates plays and make solid passes, often entirely a 3rd dman. He has a great glove and can make spectacular saves on a constant basis. Most importantly, his Hockey IQ is where you want it to be. Smart decisions, few mistakes, adapts to every situations, knows where his net is at any time etc. Few things I'd see that would need an improvement : Size (again, 179lbs at 18 is not worrying to me and 6''1 is decent and will probably still grow a bit), he gives up too many rebounds in dangerous areas that leads to scoring opportunities for the other team and his 5-hole is getting scored too much on at my taste. Nothing I consider major issues and I definitly think he's futur starter material.

I currently work remotely as a human factors engineer for a startup with monthly travel. I have a B.S. in biomedical engineering and 5 years of experience. My title is actually a senior level position. I'm highly skilled, competent, and versatile, and also do a lot of UI/UX front-end development as well as quality manager / quality engineering work, in addition to my HFE work.
In the market for a new remote HFE/UE job, but have been struggling to find any remote positions. For the few that do pop up, it is insanely competitive to even land an interview. Even for entry-level jobs requiring 0-2 years of experience, I'm understandably getting beat by Masters grads, even ones with less/no work experience.
I don't live in a biotech hub city, so there are zero in-person jobs near me. I only recently moved here and need to be remote for personal reasons, not because I don't want to be in the office, so relocation isn't feasible right now. I've declined one offer due to a relocation requirement. I have been through 5 other interview processes since March and am just being ghosted after 2nd or 3rd interviews. It's exhausting, as I'm sure many people who are going through this know. I'm also open to contract positions at this point, but I'm just not seeing any more listings.
I acknowledge that not being able to relocate is a huge factor contributing to my struggle here. It would also not be a financially wise decision on my part to go into more debt for grad school, I have been financially independent throughout my teens and college years and would not receive any help from family.
Should I just to stick it out at my current company a little longer even though I'm stagnating, no longer motivated, and way underpaid? Is this just due to the fact that I'm looking for jobs in the middle of the year instead of in Jan/Feb? Feeling lost and hopeless and like I've put myself in between a rock and hard place. Don't expect many people to empathize but open to advice.

Fire Flower: You gain the ability to throw fire balls. The fire balls are a 10 inch sphere, they will do damage around, a baseball on fire TO a wrecking ball depending on how much damage you want the fireball to do.
Super Acorn: You can now glide from any height and land safely, do a single double jump and you can cling to walls, you cannot climb the walls like spiderman but you can cling to them and then jump off the wall and glide.

So I'll try to keep this short, but the simplest question is the two title ones. I've never really had a budget outside of a really quick one that I "guesstimated" to figure out what my emergency fund should be. And even then, I included everything (streaming shit, internet, lawn care, even gaming), not just bare basics to live...
Here's my situation: 36, Florida, didn't start saving until I was 27-28 and even then it was very little (~10% of low military basic pay). I feel like I've been trying to play a lot of catchup the past few years.

• Salary: $111k
  
• Additional income: $26k (non-taxable VA disability)
  
• I max my 401k, Roth IRA, and HSA every year for the past 3 years I've been in this job (since separating from the military).
  
• My 401k/IRA/HSA/TSP/ESOP (all retirement stuff basically) is right about $202k. I fear this isn't "on track" for my age, but they're all being maxed, so there's nothing else I can do, I don't think?
  
• I-Bonds have $20k in them. This is my emergency fund I slowly "laddered" in.
  
• Money-Market Savings Account has about $10k in it. Functioned as a backup emergency fund until I could pull out of I-Bonds, which I can now, so this is just... sitting here now, I guess.
  
• Checking account where all my bills are paid from I also try to maintain ~$10k in. It never dips below ~7k, but I like the comfy 10k number in case of big purchases or something.
  
• Just bought a house in June of last year @ 4.25%. Mortgage, taxes, insurance, etc. = $1901. Currently paying $2200 though because I expect that $1901 to go up later this year when property taxes hit, specifically because it's new construction, so taxes last year were based on "unimproved land". So I'm paying extra already (towards principle right now) to just like... have already "budgeted" for that increase, I guess. Does that make sense? Sorry if not clear.
  

So I'm basically at the end of the Prime Directive, but never really sat down and did Step 0. Do I actually need to? And follow-up question, what's my next step? I have no real goals I'm saving up for or anything (car is only 2.5 years old, can't take a long vacation because of limited PTO, etc.) =\

Hello hello! If you have read my title I'm looking for roleplayers who are into fandom roleplay! I have plots for many fandoms I'm in, and I'm happy to double up in fandom! (There is a roleplay password at the end!)
Now with that said some info about me, my style and generally other things I want people to know! I'm crooked spine, you can call me crooked! I would like to say I am a semi literate to advanced literate roleplayer who focuses mainly on being literate, I write between the two paragraphs to about two messages, three if I'm super into things, and that's over on discord! I use third person past tense in my roleplays, I'm also eighteen and use all pronouns but they/them and she/her are the ones I use the most! I'm open to lbgtq plus roleplay since I myself am part of the community!
I'll write the fandoms I want down below, characters I want you to play for me and the plot for my side of things! (Doubles are very much welcome!) If there are multiple characters I have a plot for each!
Fandoms ;

• AC Valhalla ; Ivarr the boneless, Eivor and Alfred the Great.

Plots ; Ivarr the boneless - Cwen Duke (my oc) is an anglo saxon mercenary, some believe she is a warrior of God, she herself just sees herself as doing the right thing protecting her people, at some point she ends up meeting Ivarr on the battlefield and holds her own against him so well she actually injures the viking warrior, she is taken prisoner when the Vikings eventually win the battle, and Ivarr is very interested in knowing the mighty warrior who managed to injure him.
Eivor - Cwen Duke meets the Raven clan, or more so Eivor, when she is employed by Sigurd to fill the ranks of the viking army, she is more then glad to join with very little coin since she had been slighted by one of their many enemies, not being allowed to join their fighting ranks, she meets Eivor when she is sent to retrieve them from one of their adventures, managing to save Eivor when they have an attack sprung on then by bandits.
Alfred the Great - Cwen, who wears a helmet to hide her female features, joins a royal guard of sorts to protect Alfred after an assassination attempt, after countless times of trying to get the faceless and mute Knight to speak to him it all comes to a head when another attempt is made to kill Alfred, Cwen has her helmet knocked off her head in the midst of the struggle against the assassin and it reveals that she is a woman to her precious king.

• Hogwarts Legacy ; Ominus Gaunt and Gareth Weasley.

Plots ; Ominus Gaunt - Aeleyna Harrow (my oc and my in my playthrough) is the new fifth year, she meets Ominus when she is sorted into Slytherin, the plot would follow the story, instead more drama ensues when Sebastian finds out she is living and sees Lodgok, a goblin, as a father figure to herself, which would cause trouble in the friendship with Ominus because he has been pining after her since he first met her.
Gareth Weasley - Aeleyna Harrow meets Gareth in potions class first of all, and she brings him the fwooper feather he wanted from Professor Sharp's office, they strike up a friendship easily and are usually together.

Plots ; Petyr Baelish - Aeleyna Stark is sent to kings landing alongside her two youngest sisters, she has to hide a pregnancy from the court as long as she can until she can come up with a good enough lie, especially for her father, but what Ned Stark knows about her is that she is the child of a Targaryen and Valaeryon, Petyr Baelish seems very interested in Aeleyna as she joins the court at Kings landing and one night finds her in the chambers far below the red keep, with three large stones, which are petrified dragon eggs which she had found hidden in a wall, now he wants to help her keep them a secret besides her pregnancy too.
Cersei Lannister - Upon meeting Aeleyna in Winterfell Cersei has been drawn to the womangrom the kindness she had shown her to keep her away from her drunken husband to offering a dance at the festivities, Cersei is now Obsessed with Aeleyna as she soon starts to notice a change about Aeleyna, a growing stomach, and the growing near silver locks that overtake the brown in her hair.
Viserys Targaryen - Aeleyna instead of resigning to a fate in Kings landing leaves Westeros, where she had been conversing with Daenerys in secret letters, Viserys is still alive and Dany stays happily married to Drogo, becoming his queen and having his children so much so that she loses the ability to sire her dragons eggs which she offers to her brother, who is now learning to be kinder, Aeleyna offers her hand in marriage to Viserys so they can rule Westeros one day together after she finds out she is a Targaryen, except she has already had two children at this point in time.
Jon Snow - After joining the battle of the bastards against her husband Ramsay, Aeleyna joins Jon to kill Ramsay, especially after all he had done to her, at one point in season one Jon and Aeleyna ended up sleeping together, at this point Aeleyna has had his child and has protected her child for the time coming up to the battle with her strengthand the fear of the dragons she had found and hatched below the red keep, which Ramsay wanted to use against Jon, and thinking that Aeleyna was going to follow his command he allowed her to join him alongside her dragons at the battle of the bastards, instead she turns her dragons against Ramsay's forces, and Ramsay himself, finally rejoining Jon after so long.

• House of the Dragon ; Daemon Targaryen, Viserys Targaryen, Aemond Targaryen and Aegon Targaryen.

Plots ; Daemon Targaryen - Haela Stark is one of the children of Rhaenyra, but is the child of an unamed Stark male, she had lives most of her life in Winterfell until she joined the court when she was eighteen, Daemon never marries Rhaenyra, Haela seems to admire Daemon and has a sort of situashionship with him the same as what Rhaenyra has in the show, except she is asked to marry Aegon Targaryen and she does as her grandsire asks, who she is very close too, except she manages to have her relations with Daemon on the side during the escalation of the hostilities.
Viserys Targaryen - Annalise Lenoa Hightower is the sister to Alicent Hightower, and daughter of the hand, she joins the court as a friend to Rhaenyra and is on the side of Rhaenyra later in the war, she is asked to seduce the king by her father and does his bidding, except she genuinley falls in love with Viserys and he with her, for her fiery spirit and strength.
Aemond Targaryen - Haela Stark is a bastard through and through, when she joins the court at thirteen she however becomes quick friends with Aemond, and as they grow older their affections are clearly known, but unfortunately she is to be married off to a Lannister, which Aemond can't stand, after Viserys dies unexpectedly before she is supposed to be married, Aemond is quick to marry her besides her clear want to support Rhaenyra and her claim.
Aegon Targaryen - Haela Stark joins the court when she is thirteen, as she grows older she grows into herself, so much so Aegon wants to take her as his bride but his father won't permit it and neither does his mother, Viserys wants her to be free from marriage and Alicent sees her love for her mother as a threat, and her loyalty to the North as another threat alongside the loyalty to Rhaenyra, but Haela has obvious feelings for Aegon so much so they marry in secret, her loyalty sways toward the greens and she is accepted soon enough.
That's all the fandoms I really wanted, but I'm in many more like Starwars, Avatar (the blue one) and many other (Fallout 4 for example lmao-)

Hubby and I have been talking about buying land for a few years. We sat down a few weeks ago and figured out our max budget so I could seriously look at real estate listings. Yesterday I found one that was everything we’ve been looking for but it’s our max budget amount. I get excited and asked him to contact our agent to pull the documents. (Hubby and the agent are long time friends.) Then I get the … well, if we do this we can’t travel anymore (we don’t travel nowand haven’t taken a trip in 8 years.) ohhh there goes our expendable income (while it will cut the amount we have, it wouldn’t be rough for us by any means.) I ask if i should just give up the dream. He just him-haws around with negative comments until I agree with him that it’s a bad idea. Last night and today I’ve been mourning the dream of moving out to the county. Today I’ve been met with angry attitude about my sadness. In our relationship 80% of the time I roll over and do what he wants instead of standing up to get what I want, easier than an argument. (We’ve been together for almost 30 years.) AITA for mourning this dream? It’s something I’ve wanted all my life.
Edit to add: we are (were) looking at finished houses on at least a few acres. I know the market is crap but this house was actually priced appropriately.
