2023.05.29 13:11 Razor488 Net/mat recommendations for indoor driving range?
I want to build a driving range setup where I can get practice reps at home to work on what I learn from golf lessons. I have a space in an upstairs game room that is approximately 10 ft in width, 10 ceiling, and as deep as 21 feet.
I was looking at either the Garmin R10 or the MLM2Pro so I need approximately 7 feet from behind the hitting zone and then 8 feet to the net for the device to track the shots.
I was looking at the Net Return Pro golf package but $1,400 seems like so much money just for a net and hitting mat. Are there comparable options that are more cost-efficient?
Please let me know if you have any net/mat combos to recommend for a setup like this. A few other questions I have:
- If a net is 3 ft deep (like the net return pro), do I need side netting if I'm hitting from 8 feet away?
- is the 10 ft width of my area too small?
- What net height do I need to hit wedges from 8 feet?
- From a software and hardware standpoint, what would I need in addition to the Garmin R10 to capture rear and front video of my swing?
- Are there any budget monitors that will tell you where your club bottomed out in relation to the ball?
- Should I consider something other than the Garmin R10 or MLM2Pro?
Thanks in advance for any recommendations to help with this build!

Advice for Planning Your Move
Planning a move can be a daunting task, but with some careful planning and organization, it can be a stress-free experience. Here are some tips to help you plan your move to Ohio:
- Start early: Moving takes time, so it’s important to start planning as early as possible. Give yourself at least 6-8 weeks to plan and prepare for your move.
- Make a checklist: Create a checklist of everything you need to do before, during, and after your move. This will help you stay organized and ensure that nothing is forgotten.
- Declutter: Moving is the perfect opportunity to declutter and get rid of anything you no longer need or want. Go through your belongings and decide what to keep, donate, or sell.
- Hire a moving service: Consider hiring a moving service like Moving Truck Driver, which specializes in driving U-Haul and Penske rental trucks for people looking to move. They can handle the logistics of moving, freeing up your time and reducing stress.
- Research housing options: If you’re not familiar with Ohio, do some research on the different neighborhoods and housing options available. Look for areas that are close to your work or have good schools if you have children.
- Set a budget: Moving can be expensive, so it’s important to set a budget and stick to it. Consider the cost of packing supplies, moving services, and any deposits or fees for your new home.
- Notify important parties: Be sure to notify important parties, such as your bank, utility companies, and the post office, of your change of address. This will ensure that you receive your mail and bills at your new address.
- Pack efficiently: Pack your belongings efficiently to save space and reduce the risk of damage. Use sturdy boxes and packing materials, and label each box with its contents and destination room.
By following these tips, you can make your move to Ohio a smooth and stress-free experience. Remember to plan ahead, stay organized, and ask for help when you need it.
Advice for Finding Housing
Finding the right housing in Ohio can be a challenging task, especially if you’re not familiar with the area. Here are some tips to help you find the perfect place to call home:
- Determine your budget: Before you start your search, determine how much you can afford to spend on housing. Take into account your monthly income, expenses, and other financial obligations.
- Decide on your must-haves: Make a list of your must-haves in a home, such as the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, and amenities like a garage or outdoor space.
- Research neighborhoods: Research the different neighborhoods in Ohio to find an area that fits your lifestyle and preferences. Consider factors like proximity to work or schools, safety, and access to public transportation.
- Utilize online resources: There are many online resources available to help you find housing in Ohio, including real estate websites, apartment listing sites, and rental search engines. These tools can help you narrow down your search and find housing that meets your criteria.
- Work with a real estate agent: Consider working with a local real estate agent who can help you navigate the housing market in Ohio. An experienced agent can show you properties that fit your budget and preferences, negotiate with landlords or sellers, and provide valuable advice and guidance throughout the process.
- Check out the property in person: Before signing a lease or purchasing a property, be sure to visit it in person to get a sense of the neighborhood, the condition of the property, and whether it meets your needs and expectations.
- Read the lease or purchase agreement carefully: Before signing any legal documents, read them carefully to ensure that you understand the terms and conditions of the agreement. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or negotiate terms if necessary.
By following these tips, you can find housing in Ohio that meets your needs and budget. Remember to do your research, work with professionals when necessary, and take your time to find the right home for you.
Working through Logistics of Moving
Here are some tips to help you navigate the logistics of moving:
- Create a timeline: Creating a timeline will help you stay organized and ensure that you don’t forget any important tasks. Start by creating a timeline that includes key dates like the move-out date from your current home, the move-in date at your new home, and any deadlines for completing tasks like canceling utilities.
- Arrange for transportation: If you’re moving to Ohio from out of state, you’ll need to arrange for transportation. Consider renting a moving truck, hiring a moving service, or shipping your belongings.
- Pack efficiently: Packing efficiently is key to making the move smoother. Use sturdy boxes, packing materials like bubble wrap or packing peanuts, and label each box with its contents and destination room. Don’t forget to keep important documents and valuables with you during the move.
- Cancel utilities: Cancel your utilities at your old home and arrange for them to be turned on at your new home. This includes electricity, gas, water, and any other services you use.
- Change your address: Change your address with the post office and notify other important parties, such as your bank, credit card companies, and employer, of your new address.
- Transfer or close accounts: Transfer or close any accounts that can’t be moved to Ohio, such as gym memberships or subscriptions. Be sure to settle any outstanding bills or fees before you move.
- Check Ohio’s rules and regulations: Check Ohio’s rules and regulations for moving, including any permits or licenses you may need. Also, research local regulations for parking, recycling, and waste disposal.
By following these tips, you can work through the logistics of moving to Ohio and ensure a smoother transition. Remember to plan ahead, stay organized, and ask for help when you need it.
Conclusion
Moving to a new place can be an exciting and challenging adventure, and Ohio offers a unique blend of urban and rural environments, a rich cultural history, and an abundance of natural beauty. Whether you’re moving to Ohio for work, school, or a change of scenery, taking the time to research the area, plan your move, and find the right housing can help make the transition smoother and more enjoyable.

Demographics: Male, Hispanic and white, FL, Large public (3-4k), URM
Middle class, EFC around 20k-30k for many top schools on my list
Intended Major(s): - finance/ economics, philosophy

- Rank 3/875 (top 0.3%)
Coursework: AP/IB/Dual Enrollment classes, AP/IB scores, etc - will take 20 AP's by senior year, a few DE classes

- National Hispanic Recognition award (College Board)
- Lots of local debate awards, and some national level stuff (TOC Bid, NSDA Nationals qualifier, State quarterfinalist and top speaker award, top 25 at a lesser known national championship)
- Award for studying chinese for nearly a decade at local buddhist temple (not really sure if its worth putting, but I think it might show some sort of uniqueness)
- Academic all american in Debate (next year)
Extracurriculars: - Debate - President of team (25 regular competitors, but over 100 total who are on NSDA roster), in charge of a lot (ex. running meetings, fundraising, planning tournaments to attend etc.) except the actual tournament logistics 10-12th grade, President 11-12

- Gonna apply for the morgan stanley jumpstart finance 5 month long program next year, admit rates for that are low from what I heard.
Essays/LORs/Other: Optionally, guess how strong these are and include any other relevant information or circumstances.
I expect LOR's to be good, I am pretty close to a few of my teachers, who have a good understanding of me as a person and my achievements. My guidance counselor one will be cookie cutter, since I don't know them that well.
I have basically the whole summer to work on essays, I plan on investing a lot of time in it to put out quality work as I think it could make a huge difference considering I don't have any mindblowing achievements.
Schools: List of colleges, ED/EA/RD, etc All the ivy leagues, UChicago, Duke, Emory, NYU, Notre Dame, Northwestern, StanfordState schools: UF , UCF (top 10% class rank auto admit; basically my safety), FSU
Not sure whether I should ed to Dartmouth, Duke, UPenn Wharton, or if I should REA to Yale. Want to apply early to one of those to maximize my shot at getting in, and those four are my top choices.
Any advice at all and chances are much appreciated.

2023.05.29 03:48 Least-Average-8513 My friend (32m) has lived with me (24f) for 2 years and I feel like the relationship is becoming toxic.
Tldr: My friend has been living with me for 2 years rent and bill free, we fight a lot, I think he’s gaslighting me and I am getting angry, emotional and frustrated with the situation and want to kick him out, but I know he is going through a rough time with family and other life issues, plus my daughter sees him as a dad so don’t want to make a rash decision throwing him out. Apologies for any rambling but I want to give as much context as possible for a fair judgement. Also apologies for any spelling or grammar mistakes, it's like 2 am and I'm tired. I (24f) have had my friend (32m) living with me and my daughter (3f) on and off for 2 years, for the sake of the story we will call him Lee. Our relationship has heavily deteriorated and I feel like I am making rash decisions out of anger. Lee originally came to stay with us when he was evicted during the pandemic and was living in a hotel, I invited him to stay with us as I had a spare room at the time since my daughter was too young for her room. I rent, not own, and he lived with us for 7 months before we were evicted due to him staying with me and not being on the tenancy. After being evicted, my daughter and I spent 7 months homeless and couch-surfing between different family and friends' houses until I finally managed to secure a new home. At this time Lee was also couch surfing, when I finally found a new place I felt bad and invited him to come and stay with us again for what was meant to be a short period but ended up being a year. He sleeps on my couch as now my daughter is old enough she needs her room and space. In terms of the financial dynamic of the relationship. I took extended maternity leave when my daughter was born until after the pandemic calmed down early last year. After my maternity support ran out and I had to hand in notice at my job I received government support for my rent and living costs. After my rent is paid I have just shy of £400 a month to live off a month, paying all other bills and feeding and caring for myself and my daughter, when Lee moved in this was my financial situation. I rejoined the workforce last January ans was working for most of last year until I had to leave my job in August due to very poor mental health. Since then, I have struggled to stay in work and do agency work, working maybe 1-3 days on a good week and not at all when my depression is at its worst. Since he first came to stay with us, I have covered all the bills rent, utilities, and most of the food and occasionally helped him out when he needed money. Until December last year, Lee was doing occasional freelance work with very inconsistent money. He would help with putting food in the fridge or WiFi bills as and when he could, but it was not consistent. Last December I helped him to get a job at my agency and he since has been working full-time. I am frustrated with the financial side of this situation as nothing has changed or improved since he started work nothing has improved. I know I am not entitled to his hard-earned money, but I feel he being really selfish with his money when it comes to me and the household. He sends his mum money every payday without fail, but will occasionally give me £50 towards the household. He goes out a lot after work to bars and clubs and buys himself things, I’ve found a casino membership in his name when cleaning, which he claims is to just get in and hang with friends, which is an obvious lie. He mentioned in passing that he has been saving to buy a house. I was actually fuming when he mentioned that even in times when we were struggling he had money, he just had it in an ISA and couldn’t withdraw according to him. I also overheard him in a conversation saying that he has 5 figures in savings. This was just a kick in the gut but I am clearly too forgiving since he is still here. I have broken down my financial situation to him so he knows how things are, but his constant line is that he sends his mum money every week to take care of her, even though he is living in my home rent free not hers. I know it sounds jealous and vindictive but I’m the one whose roof he is living under now and it cooking and cleaning but he will send her who knows how much every week but get antsy with me if I ask him for a contribution to the Wifi bill. To put it in perspective he makes at least £3k a month before tax and tips, whereas my income is £1,780K and my rent alone is £1,400. I am ridiculously frustrated at this by this and it isn’t our only issue. Now I will say I am not completely innocent in our conflicts. I suffer heavily from depression, ADHD and ASD which until very recently hasn’t been treated by professionals. I have my up and down days, pretty intense mood swings where I can snap over minor things, not to mention rising a toddler as a single parent, I am a complete mess. My biggest issue is my house is beyond a state, it's borderline a hoarder's mess and I just can’t cope with maintaining it. Some days I struggle to get out of bed and the mess just keeps piling and piling up. Some days I can clean one, maybe 2 rooms, but by the time I have the energy and drive to clean again the whole house is a mess again and I’m back to square one. Lee and I argue about this often. He used to try and help with some things but would do a half-assed and I would get upset, like loading the dishwasher and leaving the rest of the kitchen a mess, or taking all the mess out of the rest of the house and dumping it into my toddler's bedroom. He stopped helping at all after a while because he said I was a control freak, and I can admit I can be a bit controlling at times if I don’t agree with the way he is doing something. There have been times I have asked him for help and he will turn around and say it’s not his mess so he isn’t helping it’s mine and my daughters so my responsibility to clean up. While this is true he knows I am struggling and will do nothing but sit there and complain otherwise. He complains a lot and his words and actions are driving me insane. Aside from the household maintenance complains about everything and constantly makes not-so-subtle digs and insults at me which make me feel like crap when I am already heavily depressed and suicidal at times, and then will turn around and ask me why I’m in a mood. Some examples of things he has said: - He is surrounded by idiots at work and at home - I’m a mess, this is why he could never date a woman like me, I don’t live up to his standards - Why would I trust you when you look like this/act like this etc. Usually in reference to when I get upset and just snap at him, - He will say I throw his words in his face if I bring up anything he has said in the past to his face but will do the same to me - He used the fact that I’ve been r'd and abs in arguments before “I didn’t r you and I haven’t hit you around so what is your problem with me” These are just a few examples. On top of that,I feel like I am being gaslit and constantly invalidated. He always disregards my feelings when I am trying to explain things to him or talk to him about how I am feeling. He will say he doesn’t want my explanations or he doesn’t care about my feeling. He will make really snarky comments if I give him a long-winded answer to something and say he didn’t want my explanation. He has straight up said F my feelings before and he doesn’t care about my feelings. He belittles my pain and complains I’m always sick, which I feel like I am. I am having lots of complications since having my daughter, from 3-month-long periods, to what is thought might be endometriosis or ovarian cysts, my doctors are messing me around and I always feel physically rotten on top of my mental health and he makes it sound like my pain is nothing. I genuinely feel like he is gaslighting me too, and I feel like I am losing my mind, a few examples: - He got me an Instax mini camera which I have always wanted, a few days later it disappeared and he says he saw my daughter playing with it and it must have gotten thrown in the bin. I got really upset at my daughter, dived into our buildings bins and tore open bags looking for it and he watched me get upset and mad and dig through rubbish, commenting that he will just buy a new one. A couple of days later I found a tab open for its sale price at our local tech shop on his computer and when I looked in his history it was from the same day it went missing. To this day he still blames it on my daughter. - One morning I woke up to a weird noise in my house, he had already gone to work and I went crazy over it. When I finally found it, it was his PC speaker which usually sits on the table, buried in a trunk of his clothes making weird sea noises and on full volume. He claims that it was malfunctioning and he put it there to get sleep and forgot about it when he went to work. When I found it, it turned right off when I pressed the off button. - I have hocks for all my hats on the side of my wardrobe, a few times I have come home from being away and found all my hats thrown on top of my wardrobe, but he claims to never have touched them. On top of that after my last trip away for almost a month, I found an open condom wrapper down the back of my bed when cleaning, even though he claims he never has brought anyone to my home. - He tries to tell me I don’t remember things said in conversations when I clearly remember them and is quick to call me dumb when I challenge him. - My doorbell keeps being turned off and he blames it on my daughter, I thought it was her until it was switched off when I came back from a month-long trip. We constantly argue almost daily, with some just devolving into screaming matches and some in front of my daughter. Whenever I try and remove myself from the situation he will either follow me or carry on yelling from the other room and complain I am running away from the situation. Our arguments have gotten physical before, one day I snapped and got into his face, swore at him, called him names and poked him in the chest. He followed me into the bathroom and wouldn’t leave when I told him to. I began pushing him out and he kept pushing back in, I ended up shutting his hand in the door and scratching him trying to get him to move so I could close it and he says I attacked him and made him bleed. There was no malice in my actions I just wanted to be left alone. He punched a hole in my wall once. I had a guest coming over but hadn’t told him as he wasn’t even supposed to be home. I woke from a nap to hear him dragging things into the hallways and jumped up and said “Don’t move those out here” Before, I could even finish and explain why he had punched the wall and was screaming at me that my ways of doing things don’t work and I’m such a control freak, even though he didn’t even let me finish my sentence or get a word in. He blames me and said it was my fault because he is triggered by past actions and still to this day says it’s my fault. I’m just exhausted and feel like I don’t have a single safe or happy place in this world with him in my home. I really enjoy it when he is at work but just dread him coming home. It isn’t all bad though. He occasionally helps around the house. Has helped with my daughter feeding and entertaining her more times than I can count when I was sick or tired or busy. He has followed me to events and supported me, helped me build my career. We have had a lot of fun and laughs, and even though his help with my daughter hasn’t changed, our whole dynamic has. He is cold towards me now, has no time for me with anything, and can be condescending at times. On top of lying when he doesn’t need to lie to me, which I find how easy he feels he can lie to my disturbing. What he doesn’t realise is that he is an awful liar and I can always tell. What has led me to write this post is today I came home with my daughter to find him with some random guy I have never met before in my house. He brushed me off when I got upset because he got upset that he brought a stranger into my home where my small child lives. Not even my best friend came to my home or even knew where I lived until my birthday which was like 8 months in. He tried to say to me he told me he was bringing him over which is a lie, he asked if I was home and if he could borrow my laptop but said never mind when I said I wasn’t home, and that he would follow his friend home and double back. He didn’t even apologise and had the nerve to ask me what my problem is. I have never been so angry at another person and mad such malicious thoughts then I had tonight so I thought I need an outside perspective. At the start of the month, I asked him to leave by the end of the month, but a few days ago he was attacked on his way home from work and beaten within an inch of his life. I feel bad asking him to leave now when he’s having such a rough time. The only reason I haven’t asked him to leave before is because my daughter adores him, he is more of a dad to her than her dad and she loves him like a father and they have a great relationship. I don’t want to hurt her but I don't know if I should even bother trying to make this situation work. I don’t even know what to say to him or how to speak to him anymore without it divulging into an argument. What is the best course of action from here?

2023.05.28 22:29 38931841Hz Calling all would-be co-founders, bored professionals, and anybody who ever wanted to run a megacorporation
Hello, I am looking to put together a team of founders and am inviting anybody who may be interested to reach out to me on here or DM, this is an open interview style attempt to fill out the core founding team of what will be the worlds next megacorporation. A bit about myself and what im doing is that I am a aspiring inventor (no official patents or the like yet) who is working to develope a multitude of designs I have come up with over the years as a result of consistent research into a library of thousands of patents and documents pertaining to the most advanced technologies imaginable. Everything you can think of from advanced systems that turn farms into ecological rejuvenation hubs while growing crops up to 10 times faster with twice the nutrient density while also eliminating any need for fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, antibiotics, etc. to antigravity, cures for virtually any ailment, thought based computer interaction, specialized AI programs, and waveform based technologies that can enable seemingly magical capacities for the user to name just a few of the technologies I intend to bring to the public sector.
In line with this goal over the last year or so I have been making efforts to the best of my abilities to establish my company and develope these technologies into prototype ready states and am now beginning to make the prototypes as I am able to do so. I have also established and expanded my professional network on LinkedIn to include specialist and investment related professional contacts around the world and have discussed these technologies and products I am working on at length with many of them and have received exclusively praises, aid, and encouragement in my endeavor. As a result from these networking efforts I have recently been invited to present at a 3 day global networking and investment conference taking place in July.
This development has refueled my efforts to continue to build a team to help me run this company that once funded, will quickly disrupt multiple major market sectors and create a couple new ones all together. Beyond that I also intend to Create a social media platform that will provide inventors and other creatives with a platform to showcase what they have to offer to the public at large where they will vote on it and we will then get the winner's offerings to market for zero upfront cost to them and 20% on all sales going forward. I am also working to establish a coalition of sorts made up of companies that cumulatively agree to ensure eachother's continued existence through various means that are created and made available by and within the membership of the group, there are a lot of details to that one that I'm not going into here but we will obviously cover after you reach out.
As you can see there is a lot, and even more to this plan, and because of the scope I need a lot of people, people who know how to run a multi national corporation, People who know how to build AI, electricians, engineers, project managers, etc. To help get this off the ground and solve a large number of the major issues plaguing society today. I can't offer you money for your help until we all start making it together. With that Said anybody who joins up now will be a founder alongside myself and will be entitled to all the expected benefits and responsibilities. Once we get the first design on the market everybody will be paid generously. The first product is a heating system intended to replace the standard gas, electric, etc. heating systems that people use for their homes and businesses today. In short it can be run on as little as a car battery and a cheap solar panel if need be and is to be sold for a $50 monthly subscription in lieu of the wildly fluctuating gas and electric bills that we all contend with today. It also provides on demand hot water as well.
If you made it this far and this interests you, and you want to know more let me know and we can talk.

I am also working to establish a coalition of sorts made up of companies that cumulatively agree to ensure eachother's continued existence through various means that are created and made available by and within the membership of the group.
With that Said anybody who joins up now will be a founder alongside myself and will be entitled to all the expected benefits and responsibilities as well as the company's resources and support for any business endeavors you may wish to persue beyond the company.

How Can Writers Use Notion AI?
Having experimented with Notion AI (both as an early beta tester and using the plan currently available to all users), here are some of the top use cases demonstrating the value of Notion AI for writers:
1. Summarizing Written Content
Notion AI offers an easy to use, one click command, that automatically summarizes a portion of text highlighted.
For the purposes of this example, I entered the text of a recent WSJ article, Fed Minutes Show Most Officials Favored Quarter-Point Rate Rise.
The original article text is listed below: Most Federal Reserve officials thought slowing the pace of interest-rate increases at their meeting three weeks ago offered the best way to balance the risks of doing too much or too little to combat inflation, but some warned against the hazards of slowing or stopping rate increases too soon.
“A number of participants observed that a policy stance that proved to be insufficiently restrictive could halt recent progress in moderating inflationary pressures,” said the minutes of the Jan. 31-Feb. 1 meeting, released Wednesday.
Fed officials unanimously approved raising their benchmark federal-funds rate by a quarter percentage point to a range between 4.5% and 4.75% on Feb. 1. That increase followed six larger increases, including a half percentage point in December.
Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday the central bank will raise interest rates a quarter-percentage-point. Powell said more increases will likely be needed to continue lowering inflation.
The minutes of the gathering said that “almost all participants agreed that it was appropriate” to raise rates by a quarter point, or 25 basis points. Many of these officials “observed that a further slowing in the pace of rate increases would better allow them to assess the economy’s progress… as they determine the extent of future policy tightening,” the minutes said.
But a few participants favored or would have also agreed to a larger half-point move, the minutes said. “The participants favoring a 50-basis-point increase noted that a larger increase would more quickly bring the target range close to the levels they believed would achieve a sufficiently restrictive stance,” the minutes said.
Their discussion suggested another increase of a quarter point was likely at their next meeting on March 21-22. Since then, new data indicated stronger economic activity and slower progress on inflation than previously expected, which could keep the Fed raising rates longer than anticipated before the latest reports.
At the time of the recent meeting, Fed Chair Jerome Powell was facing increasing skepticism from investors over whether the central bank would continue raising rates because economic activity had been mixed around year’s end, with signs that consumer spending had moderated and weakness in the hard-hit housing sector was spreading to manufacturing. Investors were also anticipating rate cuts later this year.
The Fed raises rates to combat inflation by slowing the economy through tighter financial conditions—such as higher borrowing costs, lower stock prices and a stronger dollar—that curb demand.
Most Fed officials projected in December that they would raise the fed-funds rate to 5.1% this year, which would imply quarter-point rate increases at their next two meetings, in March and May. More than a third of officials anticipated lifting the rate above 5.25%. No officials projected rate cuts this year.
Some officials at the meeting observed that any continued easing in financial conditions could require the Fed to raise rates to higher levels or keep them at higher levels for longer than anticipated.
In the three weeks since they met, fresh U.S. economic reports showed that hiring and retail spending surged in January. The unemployment rate fell to 3.4%, a 53-year low, surprising economists who have long anticipated that Fed rate increases would slow economic growth soon. Economic growth also has rebounded in Europe, further easing worries of a global recession this year.
As a result, investors now expect the Fed to lift the fed-funds rate to around 5.4% in June–more than central bank officials had projected in December.
Inflation’s swift decline late last year also stalled in January. The 12-month inflation rate edged down to 6.4% last month from 6.5% in December and a recent high of 9.1% in June, according to the Labor Department. The department’s widely followed gauge, the consumer-price index, rose a sturdy 0.5% in January from the month before, a sign of still strong price pressures.
Two Fed presidents said last week they would have supported a larger half-point rate rise at the last meeting, rather than the quarter-point increase approved. One of them, Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester, said officials aren’t limited to quarter-point steps. “We can move faster, and we can do bigger [increases] at any particular meeting.”
St. Louis Fed President James Bullard also said he would support moving as quickly as possible to raise the fed-funds rate to 5.4%. “I don’t see much merit in delaying our approach to that level,” he told reporters last week.
Most other Fed officials have expressed a preference for quarter-point increases. Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin told reporters last week he liked that approach “because I believe it gives us the flexibility to respond” depending on how the economy evolves.
Mr. Barkin said he didn’t favor moving rapidly to an estimated peak rate before pausing because he isn’t confident the central bank can gauge how much its past rate moves are slowing the economy. “That theory, to me, requires more confidence in understanding” the effectiveness of tighter rate policy “than I have,” he said.
Overall inflation had slowed in recent months largely because of falling prices of energy and other goods. Large increases in housing costs have slowed, but haven’t yet filtered through to official price gauges. Mr. Powell has nevertheless justified continued rate increases by pointing to still-tight labor markets, elevated wage pressures and high inflation for labor-intensive services.
Mr. Barkin noted the surprising strength in January spending and hiring, but said he wasn’t ready to substantially revise his economic outlook because of the potential for unusual seasonal volatility, including a longer holiday spending season in the fourth quarter, warmer weather and changes in how employers are managing their staffing given recent difficulties hiring workers.
Investors’ shifting expectations about the Fed could already be helping the central bank because interest-rate policies work through financial markets. Changes to the anticipated trajectory of rates, and not just what the Fed does at any meeting, can influence broader financial conditions.
Since November, anticipation of a milder interest-rate path led financial conditions to ease somewhat after tightening substantially last year. The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate, for example, jumped from 4% one year ago to 7% in November. It then edged lower, to around 6% earlier this month.
Over the past two weeks, however, financial conditions have tightened again as investors anticipate an interval of higher short-term interest rates. Mortgage lenders have reported rates are returning back to 7% in recent days.
After a few seconds, Notion AI generated the following text summarizing the article:

While not perfect, this is a really good summarization of a complex article/topic. And the Notion AI tool also provided options for further editing this text, including making the summary longer, rewriting the entire summary, or replacing a section of the article.
2. Changing Tone of Text
Another great feature of Notion AI is its ability to change the tone of text.
For example, I used the following excerpt from a Washington Post article on winter weather: A strong, intensifying storm system continued its trek across the Lower 48 early Wednesday, unleashing high-impact winter weather that could cause widespread power outages and grind travel to a halt. At least 75 million Americans are under winter storm, ice storm, blizzard warnings or winter weather advisories.
In addition to hefty precipitation in much of the Midwest and parts of the Plains, there could also be snow in notably low elevations — including in areas that rarely see measurable snowfall. Even the Los Angeles County mountains are included in a rare blizzard warning — the first issued by the National Weather Service office there since 1989. Snow levels could descend to below 1,000 feet elevation as extreme anomalous cold at high altitudes whips up a serious elevation storm.
That same lobe of frigid air aloft is also spawning a surface low that’s marching across the country. Over the Upper Midwest and the northern Plains, up to two feet of snow could fall in what the National Weather Service office in Minneapolis is calling a historic winter storm. It could prove to be a top-5 event in the Twin Cities, where blizzard warnings slice through the metro.
On the southern fringe of the snowfall, mild air a mile above the ground will favor freezing rain, with a quarter- to a half-inch of ice accumulation, or glaze, possible in some areas. Parts of the Corn Belt and Michigan are expected to be hardest hit, including places like Dubuque and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or Lansing, Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor in Michigan.
The storm should finish its cross-country assault in the Northeast late Thursday into Friday, where additional winter storm warnings are in effect for northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
I then used the Notion AI change tone function, and selected the “casual option”:
The Notion AI tool then quickly generated the following text: Wowza, we’ve got a major storm system heading across the US of A, bringing some serious winter weather that could knock out power and put a stop to travel plans. That’s no joke, folks! It looks like around 75 million Americans are under winter storm, ice storm, blizzard warnings or winter weather advisories, so you know this is serious business.
And get this, it’s not just heavy precipitation we’re talking about – parts of the Midwest and Plains could get snow, and we’re talking about areas that don’t usually see snowfall. The Los Angeles County mountains are even included in a rare blizzard warning – the first one issued by the National Weather Service office there in over 30 years! The snow could even come down to below 1,000 feet elevation. Yikes!
There’s a lobe of frigid air up high that’s causing all of this, and it’s also spawning a surface low that’s going across the country. In the Upper Midwest and the northern Plains, we’re talking up to two feet of snow in what the National Weather Service office in Minneapolis is calling a historic winter storm. That’s right, it could be a top-5 event in the Twin Cities, where blizzard warnings are all over the place.
On the southern edge of the snowfall, freezing rain is likely, and some areas could see a quarter- to a half-inch of ice accumulation. The Corn Belt and Michigan are expected to be hit hard, including places like Dubuque and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or Lansing, Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor in Michigan.
This storm is going to finish up with a bang in the Northeast late Thursday into Friday, where more winter storm warnings are in effect for northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Stay safe out there, folks!
While perhaps a bit over the top, it definitely demonstrates the AI tools ability to create content using different tones.
3. Writing Social Media Posts
While the previous two use cases demonstrate the Notion AI tool’s ability to synthesize and mimic different forms of text, this next example shows its power to create text based off of very short prompts. Specifically, how it can quickly generate social media posts.
I selected the option from the Notion AI menu to write a social media post. It asked for me to enter a prompt to complete this sentence:
Write a social media post about_____________
And I simply entered “
spring cleaning.”
In response, it generated the following social media post (including the hashtags):
Spring is here and it’s time for some cleaning! Whether it’s decluttering your home, organizing your closet, or deep cleaning those hard-to-reach areas, now is the perfect time to get started. A little bit of cleaning can go a long way in making your space feel refreshed and renewed. Don’t forget to donate any items you no longer need to charity or recycle them responsibly. Let’s all welcome spring with a clean and organized home!
#springcleaning #declutter #organization #cleanhome #refreshed #renewed #donate #recycle
While not perfect, I didn’t give the AI tool much information, so I was fairly impressed with this output.
4. Writing a Blog Post
Similar to the last use case, I wanted to further text the Notion AI tool’s ability to generate written content. So I selected the “write a blog post” option and entered the following prompt:
The tool generated the following blog post:
The Benefits of Jogging
Introduction
Jogging is a popular form of exercise that has numerous benefits for both physical and mental health. It is a low-impact exercise that can be done anytime and anywhere, making it a convenient choice for people of all ages and fitness levels. Jogging is also an affordable form of exercise, as it requires no special equipment or membership fees. In this blog post, we will discuss some of the benefits of jogging and how it can improve your overall health and well-being.
Physical Benefits
Jogging is an excellent way to improve cardiovascular health. It helps to strengthen the heart and lungs, lowers blood pressure, and reduces the risk of heart disease. Jogging also helps to build endurance and increase stamina, which can improve athletic performance in other activities.
In addition to its cardiovascular benefits, jogging can also help with weight loss and weight management. It is an effective way to burn calories and boost metabolism, which can help to shed excess pounds and maintain a healthy weight. Jogging also helps to build muscle and tone the body, giving you a leaner and more sculpted appearance.
Jogging is also good for bone health. It helps to strengthen bones and prevent osteoporosis, a condition that causes bones to become brittle and weak. Regular jogging can also improve joint health and flexibility, reducing the risk of injury and improving overall mobility.
Mental Benefits
Jogging is not just good for physical health, it also has many mental health benefits. It is an excellent way to reduce stress and anxiety, as it releases endorphins that promote feelings of happiness and relaxation. Jogging can also boost self-esteem and confidence, helping to improve overall mood and well-being.
Regular jogging can also improve cognitive function and brain health. It has been shown to improve memory, concentration, and overall brain function, reducing the risk of cognitive decline and dementia in later life. Jogging can also help to improve sleep quality, which is essential for overall health and well-being.
Social Benefits
Jogging can also provide social benefits, as it can be a great way to meet new people and make friends. Joining a jogging group or running club can provide a supportive and motivating environment, where you can connect with other like-minded individuals who share your passion for jogging.
Getting Started with Jogging
If you are new to jogging, it is important to start slowly and gradually build up your endurance. Begin with short, easy runs and gradually increase the distance and intensity over time. It is also important to wear proper shoes and clothing to prevent injury and ensure comfort while jogging.
To make jogging more enjoyable, try listening to music or a podcast while you run. You can also join a jogging group or find a jogging buddy to keep you motivated and accountable.
Conclusion
In conclusion, jogging is an excellent form of exercise that can benefit both physical and mental health. It can improve cardiovascular health, aid in weight management, strengthen bones and joints, reduce stress and anxiety, boost self-esteem and confidence, and improve cognitive function and brain health. Jogging can also provide social benefits, making it a great way to meet new people and make friends. If you are looking for an easy and convenient way to improve your health and well-being, jogging is a great place to start. So put on your running shoes, hit the pavement, and enjoy the many benefits of this simple yet effective form of exercise.
Overall, I was very impressed with how quickly it generated this grammatically correct and well written blog post. It’s worth noting that once the Notion AI tool finishes generating the text, there is a button you can click to make the article longer, which it also does with ease.
5. Finding Action Items
Last, I wanted to test the “finding action items” tool. To do this, I found a publicly available copy of a county’s meeting minutes over their local water authority (see PDF here):
I then ran the text through the AI tool, using the “find action items tool”:
Notion AI generated the following:
- - [ ] Purchase hydrants to replace existing hydrants in the Pinebrook Water System
- - [ ] Complete the activation of the system, replacing the hydrants, and other miscellaneous punch list items to complete the Pinebrook Water Interconnection Project
- - [ ] Engage legal counsel to advise on the assignment from Global Foundries to Onsemi
- - [ ] Request a preliminary meeting with the Poughkeepsie Joint Water Board to discuss issues and concerns regarding the assignment from Global Foundries to Onsemi
- - [ ] Speak to the Deputy County Executive, Ron Hicks in regard to the request to assign the water sale agreement to Onsemi
- - [ ] Consider retaining auditors, RBT to review Onsemi’s financials
- - [ ] Follow up with Ron Haase, Rust & Co. about purchasing the Market Street Plant
Overall, I was very impressed with the ability of the AI tool to generate action items. Since many Notion users (students, office workers, etc.) use Notion for note taking, this seems like an extremely valuable feature.
Conclusion
The examples of Notion’s AI tool make a strong case for adding the Notion AI tool to your writer toolkit! And the examples above only represent a fraction of the total use cases. Notion is already one of the best productivity tools for bloggers, and the addition of Notion AI for writers further cements its place on this list!

2023.05.28 20:19 NobodySpecific I woke up at 6am on a Sunday and met a friend for golf
I know that sounds pretty tame as far as achievements go, but I absolutely am not a morning person. I'm especially not a Sunday morning person, because Fridays and Saturdays when I don't have my son used to be guaranteed heavy drinking nights. I would be useless every other Saturday and Sunday morning (or all day...).
And that was an improvement from my previous behavior, where it's not unheard of for me to drink every night. But on April 30th I decided I'd had enough.
I was motivated to quit drinking, funny enough, by the friend I met for golf. She quit at the beginning of the year and it really inspired me to improve my relationship with alcohol. It's been hard for her (and me) because the friend circle that we have in common is all about drinking heavily. It's cost us both some friendships. But the benefits are immeasurable, especially being able to drag my ass out of bed and be relatively chipper so early in the morning.
All I drank on the course was water and while the sun and heat kicked my ass, I feel great. I hadn't quite noticed before just how strong the drinking culture was on golf courses. I passed many people coming out of the club house with 2 or 3 beers in hand. Many groups stay after their round for another drink or two. Hell my cart has a cooler built into it.
It turns out, though, that I actually enjoy playing so much more when my quality of play doesn't continuously decrease as the round goes on. I'm planning on playing again tomorrow, which will mark the first time ever that I've had the energy and the desire to play 3 rounds in 4 days. This feels so much better than having a 3 day long weekend bender like I would have had even just a month or two ago.
I've been lurking here awhile and it's been so helpful reading about everybody's experiences that I thought I would share mine. Thank you all.

2023.05.28 16:39 southernarcana Gold Star Family Question
Apologies if this is the wrong to place to ask, but a quick search didn’t turn up much for me.
My dad died from cancer 20 years ago that was connected to agent orange exposure while in Vietnam. His care was all covered by the VA and my mom got /is still getting full combat related death benefits (as did my little sister). My question is whether this qualifies us as Gold Star Family?
It came up in a discussion with a friend and after searching google I’m still unsure. He didn’t die in combat but it was directly tied to his time while in combat.
So if anyone can shed any light on this that’d be much appreciated.
Edited to add the following just in case it helps at all. I may repeat myself here.
We got the Burial Flag and had the offer for a military funeral, but my dad wanted to be be cremated.
My mom is still getting the monthly combat related death payments and her she recently got a cancer diagnosis and the VA is picking up 100% of the cost off what her own insurance doesn’t cover.
My little sister (15 at the time of my dads death) got monthly benefits and full college tuition up to age 25 I believe.
I was 26 and my older sister 31 when he passed so we did not receive any benefits. Which isn’t what this is about. This was sparked by a conversation with a client about the Nation Park Services offering the free membership for Gold Star Families and he knew of my dad’s situation so he told me to look into it. While the the application seems solely on the honor code I wouldn’t want to apply if we didn’t actually meet the requirements. Which then lead me to just being curious about it over all.
