2023.03.30 19:00 zynix Does anyone notice differences in the order of playing missions? (spoilers)

I've almost always done:
Panam -> Judy & murder the Voodoo Boys -> Takamura & run away
I just realized that Takamura's mission line is probably the hardest of them all with murdering the Voodoo boys coming in second while Panam's missions are probably the easiest.
Besides that Panam seemed a little jealous/apprehensive of Judy over text messages when if you romance Panam. Otherwise, there didn't seem to be any major changes.
Has anyone on here done Takamura's missions first and or will the game even allow that?
I did notice some subtle differences with the murder Voodoo boys depending on who I side with at the mall. Nothing major but if I murder everyone at the mall, later Alt calls out Johnny for embellishing on the truth a little bit.
edit: With Hanako, you mention Hellmen's existence to her. If you did Takamura before Panam, I wonder how the conversation would go then.

2023.03.30 18:59 Gorilla_Dong94 I am SO mad at Sarah

I’m rewatching the show (I know the ending but don’t remember anything leading up to it). Sarah knew the only way she and Chuck could be together was if he became an agent. She trained him for 3 years knowing eventually he’d have to pass ‘the red test’ i.e. kill a man. Now that she believes he has taken a life she says she can’t be with him. So the entire time she was training him, she knew this test was going to arise eventually, and she knew that if Chuck was capable of murder, that she wouldn’t want to be with him anymore. So why, WHY, did she follow through? She seems like an absolute hypocrite at this point in the show and I am very upset. 😤 Also, I’m half way through episode E12, S3 so try to contain the spoilers.

Right off US 319 south of Tallahassee, the Leon Sinks Geological Area contains 5 miles of trails leading to a series of sinkholes big and small. The land in this area is underlain by a layer of limestone, eroded and dissolved by rainwater and groundwater to form caverns, holes, and tunnels. This type of terrain is called "karst" and results in many geological features such as wet sinkholes, depressions, natural bridges and a disappearing stream. The hikers can either hike the 3.6-mile Sinkhole Trail to view the numerous sinkholes and geological features, or the 2.8-mile Gum Swamp Trail around a cypress and gum swamp. We recommend wear hiking shoes and bring a water bottle, and consider bug spray or long pants/sleeves. 10am

2023.03.30 18:55 emjayl16 Should I read The Love Hypothesis/Love on the Brain?

I see people absolutely rave about these books but I really feel like they won’t be my cup of tea. I don’t know whether to give them a chance or not.
For reference I absolutely cannot stand anything by Colleen Hoover and hated the Good Girls Guide to Murder series. (I feel like the Ali Hazelwood books are always recommended by people that rate these books)

Trans Activists Storm Kentucky Capitol to Protest Law Prohibiting Child Sex Changes

https://preview.redd.it/6jwgg0japwqa1.jpg?width=755&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba4c647f67f2a07ecb1270cd447494e63e54d69d
Hmm...exactly like January 6th - wonder why the dems and the media aren't referring to this as an "insurrection" (and in fact are actually applauding it!)....
Despite what the trans Nashville shooter believed (and used as an excuse to murder those children, as per her manifesto - and now trans organizations are actually DEFENDING her actions!), Republicans (and Christians) are NOT anti-trans nor anti-LGBT, however Republicans are now very much the sole protectors of children.
So children are deemed to lack the emotional maturity and as such are not allowed to vote, drive, purchase a gun, drop out of school, join our military, gamble, drink, get married, live on their own or make other health care decisions on their own behalf. And if an adult has any sort of sexual relations with a child, regardless of consent, it is (quite rightfully) legally considered to be rape, as the child is not deemed to have the emotional maturity to truly understand what is or is not his/her best interests, nor what he/she really wants or is feeling, and can easily be manipulated – or even confused – into providing consent.
And now the dems are even pushing legislation by which minors found guilty of violent crimes won’t serve jail time because they did not yet have the emotional maturity to decide what is right or wrong, and yet somehow they are capable of making a massive and permanent decision to physically reassign their gender???
And yet Biden and the dems want to allow children – even those as young as 4 or 5 – to make what will likely be the biggest decision of their life to determine on their own that they wish to transition genders – WITHOUT THEIR PARENTS’ CONSENT OR EVEN KNOWLEDGE.
To even consider allowing them to make such a major life-altering decision on their own – a decision which will be PERMANENT and a decision which will likely have the biggest impact on the rest of their life relative to any other decision they will ever make – is nothing short of child abuse.
Growing up, children face all sorts of changes (biologically, hormonally and otherwise), all sorts of confusion and exposure to all sorts of new (and often confusing) things, particularly in this digital age in which we find ourselves, in which access to anything and any sort of information can be found in seconds. And when they begin puberty, such feelings increase exponentially. Questions, confusions and even desires to experiment arise, but by no means are they necessarily permanent and certainly no basis to make such a life-altering decision, regardless as to how “real” they may feel at the time, as they will invariably change again many times before they reach the age of 18.
Even SCIENCE proves that children are not yet capable, mature or developed enough to make such a massive and life altering decision. The amygdala is the part of the brain which enables people to make such decision, including risk assessment, and this part of the brain is not developed nor matured until at least the age of 18.
So to allow a child to make such a massive life-altering decision – possibly a decision that will have the greatest impact on his/her life – greater than any other decision he/she may ever make – and denying the parents’ involvement in that process – and the requirement of their consent – is nothing short of abuse – abuse of the children – and abuse of the parents’ rights to care for their children.

2023.03.30 18:52 Otter_Apocalypse Who is behind the murders?

So the king is murdered aboard the HMS Rendower along with the entire crew. I think only the Takarans or Kians have the resources to pull this off and I doubt it was the Kians because the king was aligned with them already and a civil war is not to their benefit given that but I assume it could be possible if they plan on invading Tierra. Still, the Takarans seem to me like the most likely culprits as it strengthens the duke of Wulfram’s faction.
Now the murder of the duke’s family seems trickier to me. On one hand the Takarans benefit if they intended on pushing Tierra into civil war but the Kians may have the same goal and it could have been an attempt to murder Wulfram and supress his faction while strengthening the Kian aligned crown. Still, it is said that whoever started the fires had great knowledge of the manor which would be more difficult to obtain for both.
Now the queen is also a suspect, she had said knowledge and she had to break the status quo somehow because the crown was running Tierra with house Rendower funds and these were limited, so if no budget passed the cortes she would have to give in to Wulfram. She could have tried to murder Wulfram or simply chose to murder his family to push him into rebellion, but she was friends with the duchess. Still I don’t think that would keep her from doing it since she appears to be ruthless and we already know that Royal Intelligence is capable of anything.
Does anyone have any thoughts or insights here?

2023.03.30 18:52 Confident-Cupcake164 This is the question I asked myself to make myself successful

I asked my self, am I genetically superior?
If I am not, then I shouldn't worry. The world belongs to the best. Failure is normal. Just die. I deserve it.
If I am, then I should find solutions. Do I always succeed? Not even Hanibal is successful all the time. Even Carthage got destroyed. Even jews were slaughtered. East asians are victims of discrimination from places to places.
But I know that I am far more likely to find solutions that work more than other people. That's close enough to genetically superior mean.
I often fail. Recently I wasted $2k buying damaged projectors.
Normal people can get suspicious at the right thing. I should have hired my bro to check those projectors.
I have weakness. My mistress manage to terrorize other sugar babies from becoming mistresses.
But I should find solutions.
Now, same reasoning.
Is capitalism, individual freedom, meritocracy, the one true ideology? Is it right, the right way?
If it's wrong, don't worry about it. Anything that will fail is wrong. It's normal.
If it's right, where THE FUCK is our ancapnistan? Any commie idiot can talk about utopia from one end to another. Only superior people, superior ideology, superior mindset get shit done. Commies fail when it's tried. Well, at least it's tried.
I know life is tough. The mere acts of making honest money is punishable by taxes. I know commies are full of shit and people embrace them because humans are bigots.
Are those excuses to fail?
Look and Rome and Carthage. Someone wrote, Rome should destroy Carthage. Carthage is dangerous. One more general like Hanibal and Rome is done for. So? Is it okay to mass murder other cities just because those other cities are richer?
The fact is, Rome lives. Carthage is destroyed and all its inhabitants are either slaughtered or enslaved. Is Rome right? Could be.
Maybe superior people are always a threat. Carthage has better city management. They make more money. They produce better general. Their only weakness is they are not hell bent to destroy their enemies. They seek profit. They don't want to destroy Rome. They want profit not destroying Rome.
Perhaps Rome was right. Perhaps peace is impossible. One got to go, at that time.
Smart people can make more money in peace and win war in war. And for that to not be a threat, it's natural that others want them destroyed. Smarter people are always a threat. Are we smart? Are we a threat?
We shouldn't blame people for hating capitalism. We should expect that. And find some ways anyway.
And if push come to shove, we should betray the world then letting the world betray us. Just like Cao Cao.

2023.03.30 18:50 contessa82 Serial Production: The Coldest Case in Laramie - initial thoughts ?

Very pleasantly surprised to find that a new series from Serial just dropped. This was released out of nowhere for me since I tend not to listen to promos for upcoming cases.
I just started the series and I am only on Episode 2 so far and enjoying it.
I remember Laramie, Wyoming in the news in the late 90s with the murder of Matthew Shepard in 1998 since he was left to die outside of Laramie.
Looking forward to hearing where this case is going. Any initial spoiler-free thoughts ?

2023.03.30 18:47 the-willow-witch Suggest me a book that has divorce as a sub plot please!

Not looking for self help books as I’m not going through a divorce, it’s for a reading challenge and Google didn’t really help! It suggested Honor by Thrity Umrigar which is good so far but it’s about a woman whose husband was murdered not a divorce.
I like fiction of any genre I don’t care if it’s mystery thriller sci fi fantasy romance anything works.
Thanks in advance!

2023.03.30 18:43 Yo_red_g Relationships… ☹️

I got told that the reason nobody wanted to and wants to be my friend ever is because of how I look and because I can’t drive and work. That it is that I’m lazy; I just don’t want to and that I need to just admit that people with disabilities should not be born; one exception to abortion.
What?
First off; why do you think that there is a time limit? Abortion isn’t murder. It is are you or are you not better pick and choose before the part of the pregnancy where it is officially a living thing baby happens.
Also; you think I like that I can’t drive and work despite knowing how and being very good at it? I have a post about driving and working somewhere.
Thankfully; I don’t want friends and never understood it. I’ve tried in my twenties and all that did was cause me trouble because they would make so many fake Facebook accounts; somehow using my IP address and somehow it showed up on my phone not theirs. ..and they talked shit lies about me. They always made fun of me “Must be nice not working; driving and having your mommy do everything for you insert laugh at end of that”.
I can do plenty. I’m trusted and all that.
Just not money, driving and working. Again; there is a post about it I have somewhere.
Just stop.
What the hell more do you want of me?
This is the life I was given and I make do with it when, where and how I can.
STOP!

2023.03.30 18:41 Micheo33 REWRITING THE LAST OF US PART II

REWRITING THE LAST OF US PART II
Here’s my version of the TLOU2 story.
Reminder: I do not try to alter or fix the horse-shit story of Neil. I’m rewriting the story from scratch, based on the materials that are already there from Part I and some influence from Part II. This means that I’m removing some (well, most) of the characters from Part II and adding my versions, I name them after the ones we have already known (Dina, Jesse, etc) for more evident visualization. I also try to keep the dialogue to be as vague and brief as possible because it would require a lot of work and I simply do not have time for that. In addition, I’m writing the story from a linear perspective and won’t mention the gameplay section.
1. PROLOGUE
\INTRO\**
\Moments after Joel left the hospital\**
The leader of the Fireflies is dead. Everyone in the hospital has lost their heads, trying to clean up the mess that Joel left behind. Cries and screams are howling from every corner as people are suffering from the pain and distress of loss. The frame steers along the corridor, where Joel murdered and massacred an improbable number of experienced soldiers. The crew is in an uproar to look for those who are still alive. With the lack of medics, even some of the wounded have to patch themselves strugglingly. The scene is horrendous.
“Who?” - A voice came up with the alerting sound in the background.
The origin of the voice appears, it is a blonde girl, short-haired with a solid body. Her face is absurdly cold when she sees the plague in front. Some soldiers behind her answer inaudibly.
(Yes, this girl is a resemblance to Abby, not as big of course, her name is Abby and she will be the antagonist of this story)
The crew gets down to the parking floor where Marlene is killed, Abby is startled and unsettled by what she sees. As she walks closer to the body, the more lifeless her move is. At last, she collapses on her closest friend and started moaning, unable to keep her cool. Subsequently, she looks up at her crew with tears running down. Her words came out stuffily.
Abby: “I’m gonna find him and I’m gonna destroy everything he knows”
\A WEEK LATER\**
Opposing the tragedy at the Fireflies, Jackson came up with a cheerful and exuberant ambiance. The whole town got together to celebrate the recent prosperity, the recovery of electricity and to welcome the newcomers. People drink, laugh and dance together all night.
(Resemblance to the flashback dancing scene)
Ellie is dancing and having fun with the kids, thoroughly observed by Joel from afar. He’s sitting at the bar with Tommy and Maria.
Tommy: “She looks like she really enjoys this place, huh?”
Joel: “Yeah…” Maria: “That’s something new, a whole week ago she wouldn’t even bother to talk to anyone”
Joel chuckles
After some awkward silence, Tommy finally breaks it.
Tommy: “So Joel, you didn’t really tell me about what happened when you came back here”
Joel: “About what?” Tommy: “The Fireflies, Joel. What happened with the cure?”
Joel: “Didn’t I tell you I did not want to talk about it yet?”
Tommy: “Don’t you think now is the time?”
Joel turns away from Tommy, looking into space, thinking.
Joel: “Tommy, let’s go outside”
Tommy looks at Maria with an uneasy look. He then turns back to Joel.
Tommy: “Okay”
They get up and go outside the ballroom through the main door. Ellie notices Joel and goes to the window where she can partially see them from inside. They are talking while sitting afar and turning back to her so she couldn’t tell what they are talking about.
“Ellie, what are you doing there?” - A kid waves at Ellie
Ellie: “Ah, nothing. Sorry”
She neglects her curiosity and comes back to the crowd.
Tommy: “They what?”
Joel: “They wanted to kill her to make the cure, Tommy. They didn’t even let me see her”
Tommy: “Why?”
Joel: “I don’t know. Maybe they’re afraid?”
Tommy: “So…What did you do?”
Joel hesitates a little before giving the answer. Joel: “I saved her”
Tommy: “What do you mean saved h-..?”
Joel: “I killed Marlene” - Joel speaks before Tommy finishes his sentence Tommy freezes and doesn’t know how to reply to that.
Joel: “I couldn’t let the surgery happen. I burst through their way to the operating room and got her out”
Tommy processes his thoughts before he starts speaking.
Tommy: “Were… other people killed?”
Joel: “...Yes”
Tommy: “Jesus, Joel”
Joel: “I didn’t want to do any of it, Tommy!” Tommy: “The hell you didn't!” - Tommy raises his voice
Tommy continues: “They know about you, and me! And they know about this place!”
Joel: “That’s not going to happen!” Tommy: “What makes you so sure??” Joel: “The Fireflies is done! Their leader is dead. Lots of people are dead… There will be no Firefly anymore”
Tommy: “Does Ellie know about this?”
Joel: “I told her they just ran some tests, and they failed… I told her, that her immunity meant nothing”
Tommy: “And she buys it?”
Joel doesn’t know the answer to this. He hasn’t really thought about it until now.
Joel: “I-I don’t know”
Tommy: “Joel… I-”
“Joel!” - Ellie’s voice echoes from afar. She’s standing at the main door, waving at Joel.
Ellie: “Maria wants you to come in! She says it’s for the initiation or something!” - She speaks aloud so Joel can hear
Joel: “We’re coming!”
Joel turns back to Tommy
Joel: “So you said?”
Tommy: “Nothing, let’s come in”
Tommy pats Joel’s shoulder and gets up. Joel still sits there while thinking about his actions. Tommy notices that.
Tommy: “Joel, if I were you in that situation… I would have done the same thing”
Joel looks up at Tommy with relieved eyes.
Joel: “Y-Yeah…”
Tommy: “Now get your wrinkled ass up”
Joel chuckles a bit, he seems to be more relaxed now, he grabs Tommy’s hand and gets up.
2. NEW FACES
(From now on, the story mainly focuses on Ellie’s perspective)
Ellie: Swear to me that everything you’ve said about the Fireflies is true
Joel: … I swear
\Wait, this returns again* *Why did I get out of there unconsciously?* *I don’t believe you Joel* *Why did he lie to me?* *Why…**
Ellie suddenly woke up from the dream because of the non-stop knocking at the door
\3 YEARS LATER\**
(Reminder: Ellie is now 17. She’s still living in the same house with Joel since they got to Jackson. Joel is now a trainer for young soldiers in Jackson. He trains them how to combat, mostly dealing with runners. Ellie is one of those, because of her skills, she often frightens and is also admired by others)
Ellie: “Fuck…”
She takes a moment before coming back to Earth. The door is knocked constantly again.
Ellie: “What’s wrong?”
Joel: “It’s that day do you remember?*
Ellie: “What day?”
Joel: “Have you been drinking?” Ellie: “Nooo. I remember it now… Just give me a minute" Joel sighed: “Just take your time"
Ellie jumps out of the bed and gets to the wardrobe
Ellie: “Are there a lot of people?" - Ellie speaks while changing herself up Joel: “There are, these folks look real kind too. There are also some kids around your age” Ellie: “Oh yeah?” - She tryna act excited
Joel notices that: “..What is it?”
Ellie: “No! It’s just that… I don’t really care about them”
Joel mocks her: “What happened with the hyper Ellie?”
Ellie: “Haha okay”
Ellie finishes changing and opens the door
Ellie: “Can we go now?”
Joel: “Let’s go”
They get out of the house. It is a nice and cozy one, not too fancy but well-furnished. Today is kinda special, they call it admission day. Since Jackson is a big town now, much bigger than 3 years ago, Maria decided to expand the scale of the place. Every year, they would receive new people into the town. The procedure is so strict that only a few people manage to be accepted. There are 8 newcomers this year. That’s the highest number yet in their 3 years of recruiting. There are 4 middle-aged, 2 adolescents with 2 teenagers. There’s something special about the teenage couple that Ellie is sharp-eyed enough to notice.
Joel: “They are actually siblings” - Joel speaks after noticing Ellie staring at them
Ellie turns to Joel with an inquisitive face.
Joel continues: “The girl is older, her name is Dina. And the boy’s name is Jesse. We found them in an empty house in a nearby town” (Surprise, surprise, this is not the Dina and Jesse that you think of though. Dina here is an 18-year-old girl. She’s mysterious, rigid and experienced like Ellie. Jesse is 15 years old. He’s Dina’s brother. He’s with Dina all the time, a taciturn boy and also proficient in combat)
Ellie: “Why are they here?”
Joel: “We can’t let them be out there by themselves right? They are kids like you” Ellie looks back at them: “I can take care of myself though”
Dina notices Ellie looking at her and stares at her. Ellie quickly turns her gaze into space. Dina then mumbles to Jesse about something.
Joel: “Let’s go greet them”
Ellie: “Y-Yeah..”

That's it for now. If you enjoy my story then I will continue to write this further. I already have the outlines in my head. And btw Bill will reappear in my story.

2023.03.30 18:41 Kaiser1a2b every day new drama

Damn son, this stock is like soap opera of wallstreet. "RC is going to spin-off baby", "hudson is going to kill bobby by diluting him into the bay", "Icahn't believe it! Jr. Left Newell board, it's going to set off waves in wall Street!"
Like seriously, this is some spicy shit every week. I wonder what they going to come up with next, "warrant out on hudson for the bobby murders", "Sue paying for Exorcism in all BBBY stores".
If nothing else, this has been a wild ride of speculation and tinfoil.
Anyway I'm still all in on the merger. Call my bluff you SHF noobs.
If not, I'll hold this for 10 years and hope my investment grows or otherwise is just a 5% of the stinker plays I've made.

2023.03.30 18:40 sandy_80 fishing for the BIGGEST red herring ..my KAK THEORY

I find it VERY VERY ironic ...that this LE kept hitting us with top secrecy tactics so they can
avoid false confessions .
eventually.. they went and basically fished for one..
all agencies working on this case.. can not be accused of understanding the case , witnesses or evidence ..or any intelligence at all
they started by raiding several households ..including kak ..after they discovered one girl was possibly catfished by him..but he wasn't followed at all concerning his crimes against minors..and was free for around 3 years doing it
since going in all the wrong directions ..and after KAK was brought up in the spotlight again with his crimes ..LE saw another chance to get back to him and his bad dad ...because its very convenient ( cause whats the use of evidence and witnesses anyway )
NOW .. KAK is in deep waters ..and comes this LE THROWING him a bone ..pressure upon pressure and the media and the murder sheet on top of it ( they all say you must know something )
and as the BIG liar that he is.. he doesn't disappoint and decided to throw his dad to the dogs ( the bad dad who didnt bail him out ) ..he thinks he can play a game ..and i think this is his game
he will say ..he doesn't know anything except that his dad did it..and he was there ( only waiting in the car ) ..he can tell there is a knife and /or a gun ..and that they went and threw the weapons in the river and burned the clothes...he is only a witness/ unwilling participant and he wants a deal
LE supposingly the most cautious le in history ..the most ready for any fake confessors who dares ..decides to swallow this pill ..but only in SECRET ..but then we have the MS standing by exposing ( the river search )
the one that went in for over a month.. and cost god know what of state money ( and was empty)
just then THE REAL FISH IS CAUGHT ..and KAK is rendered a big red herring
is this good for an ID channel episode
ive built my theory on watching all threads and connecting the dots
but its stays a thoery

2023.03.30 18:38 __ButWhy__ New reader: Dammit, he got me.

I finished Fool Moon. No spoilers for future books, please. I enjoyed it. Similar formula to the first book: Opener sets the theme with Harry meeting an inquisitive ingenue for some exposition, off to a nauseating murder scene, hypersexed reporter, potion mixology with Glowskull McRapey, surprise Marcone visit with a job offer & a clue, meet scary underworld creatures led by a woman, the threat of an authoritative body hangs over Harry as they watch him very closely, summon a mystical creature for information, boobs, Murphy arrests Harry, boobs, get attacked by a monster, boobs, side villain and main villain showdown, boobs. Still a bit too predictable, but I enjoyed it for the popcorn it is. You're a wizard, Harry. So his mother didn't die in childbirth. And his father went out by some other mysterious means than previously believed. Voldemort, you naughty boy. You're a b*tch, Elaine. She did some evil stuff and she doesn't have a square to spare. Looking forward to meeting her. Would I throw up if I looked into Harry's eyes? I wanna see. Murphy doesn't just hate litter. She saves it for later. Somewhere around the time Harry noticed Murphy's "cute earlobes" as she was going about her work, I wondered, "Does Harry have a crush on Murphy?" ..."Do I have a crush on Murphy?" I wasn't sure if I was reading (listening?) too much into Harry's perceptions. He notices the bodies of every woman around him, but he also missed her when they couldn't talk directly. And I like Murphy. I relate to her. Then of course, a few chapters later, Harry's subconscious made a comment that I wholeheartedly agreed with. As soon as Carmichael showed a little faith in Harry's innocence on the question of Harry's involvement with Marcone, and the humorous moment they had, I was like "Oh no, don't kill Carmichael." :/ Made me sniffle. And immediately wonder who Murphy's new partner would be. Harry isn't an officer. So, someone handsome, smart, and just open minded enough to be friendly with Harry so Harry gets all twisted up about a niggling jealousy he has about New Guy and Murphy? Does New Guy show himself to be untrustworthy and Harry has to prove it to Murph, inviting all her ire in the process? Hm. My subconscious wears perfume, black leather boots, runs a 5-minute mile, and got her degree way before I did. The whole bit with the subconscious was fascinating, and reminded me of a redditer's warning to be careful what I wished for because Harry becomes one big internal conflict later. So now I can't help but wonder if there will be more of those little fireside chats with subconscious Harry, perhaps with a few other manifestations of Harry's worried mind. Like Harry's id to his superego. Bet that would be scary. Perhaps a magical intruder. Oh boy. Phrasing: "Sex to donuts." Loved it. The feels when Murphy saved Harry from the wolf and used her DIY bullets. "Fuego!" LOL I know it's Latin as well as Spanish, but that will never not make a Southern California kid laugh. Oh, the menacing imagery of Parker kneeling casually with a blown out knee while making nonchalant murder promises. So good. Also, Parker's team can do a mean type & screen. Butcher paints a picture. He proved himself capable in Storm Front, but this one ramped up. I adored the concept of sensory overdrive as part of the magic experience - feeling snakes rubbing Harry's palms, whispers of natural elements that weren't actually there. Ugh! So good. Felt terrible for Harry when he realized he might have been able to prevent Kim's death, if he'd just given her the information she needed. He was facing a real ethical dilemma there, though. Can't just go around explaining how to read bomb schematics. If she told him what it was for, he would have helped. His emotional outburst with Susan felt like forced intimacy, though. Both for the two of them as characters, and for the reader and Harry. It felt just as hollow as the random sex pit stop in the middle of battle time, followed by the weird use of Susan as servant for Harry's gear-up scene. That coupled with the chat with Mr. Subconscious seemed like a not-so-thinly veiled metaphor for a larger character arc set up for Harry and Susan. She'll play nurse to his broken parts, fill a lovergirl space until Harry becomes a real boy, before having to tragically let her go as part of his larger self-actualization. BEST SCENE The background potion as Harry infiltrated the station, then confounding his efforts to warn that poor guard. I asked for more suspense. I got it. The way monochrome shifted to colorful bright spots as people paid attention to Harry - such a great concept. I was not disappointed when Butcher made full use of it for the moment the wolf locked on Harry. The tension built up perfectly. The guard felt real and I ached for him to make it. The way the wolf painted the room with him was genuinely horrifying. The way Harry delayed using his magic made me squirm with frustration. That became a theme, a sometimes convenient plot device, it seemed. Harry jumped out of a moving car and thought/narrated, "Don't look at me like that." I was looking at him like that, so I laughed aloud. More 4th wall breaks, please. Where are the swinging sweaty dicks? When people get hypersexed for whatever magical reason, it's just the women. Tera was the born-sexy-yesterday trope. The FBI agents all dealt with the same magic addiction making them uber violent and uber sexual, but only Benn felt the need to moan and rub her nipples or just rip her top off for no reason. The other agents should have been striking similar poses, walking everywhere dick-first, fingering their buttholes, etc. If you wanna write weird stuff, write weird stuff. Just be consistent, is all I ask. Just because there's a view, doesn't mean you should look. Harry ogling the young wolf girl when she stretched in her robe and walked away was annoying AF. He called her and her friends children a few words ago, but apparently *she* wasn't too young for him to openly gawk at, and she wasn't even naked. Then his complaining about Susan, the fully grown hot woman prone to throwing her lips all over him, getting in the way of his view as if that were a bad thing. Get ahold of your selective chivalry, dude. Why does Susan like (maybe love) Harry? He puts her in danger without giving her the information she needs (warn a bish if she's being followed, don't just jump out of her car and leave her to the ...wolves). He apparently didn't even trust Tera at the time (though he had reason to), but he left Susan alone with her. Susan plays nursemaid, costume dresser, ego smoother, therapist, sex buddy, and still doesn't know much about him because he won't share. He ogles like it's his job, even when Susan is right there. He's high investment, low return, and large with the danger. I bought them as f*ck-buddies, but as soon as she said something about falling for Harry, I was out. She's also written with all the dimension of a sheet of paper with (.)(.) drawn on it, so I guess I should be glad she surprised me? Hope she gets more interesting. Poor MacFinn & Tera I was really bummed when I thought Tera died. And MacFinn's story was such a tragedy. Really wished he and Tera could chase their litter around that park. Butcher does this dance between setting up his main charactenarrator's faults as impeding his awareness of a larger plot (giving me faith in Butcher as a writer), and then occasionally doubling down on making his character Mr. Uber Cool or the smartest guy in the room when he has no reason to be & other characters have every reason to know better than him (returning me to believing Butcher's really just doing a self-insert). Like when Harry kept assuming Murphy just picked up his discarded paper because it was litter. Were we supposed to think Harry was dumb, just didn't give her enough credit for being a friggin' detective (is it because her earlobes are so cute, Harry?), or was Butcher just bad at misdirects and wasn't giving readers enough credit? Or did Butcher know the readers would catch onto that before Harry and Butcher was just showing how Harry's chauvinism gets in his way again? If it's the latter, then why did Butcher position Harry as the one to break the case to Murphy in the end, as if she couldn't figure out his simple dot connecting herself - especially after everything she witnessed? Which leads me to: Butcher got me, dammit. When Murphy put herself between Harry and the wolf as Harry was finally swinging his silver, apparently aiming her gun at him and ordering him to get down, I was fully pissed. "Oh goddammit, fine, make her stupid. WTF." Plot twist, Denton lives to club another day! Or try to. I totally thought Butcher was dwindling Murphy into a dumb plot device, but he mostly wasn't. Of course she was defending Harry. But a cop would have chosen a better angle. At least he didn't make her a total moron. Why did Wilson bite Benn? Marcone's got 99 problems and not having enough guards by his death pit is one of them. How did Susan recognize wolf Harry? Was it the power of lurv? Someone fire Murphy's surgeon. I know it's annoying to nitpick about medical errors in fiction. I usually let the overly frequent concussions go - people like to knock their characters out and pretend there are no effects or they only "see stars" for a few seconds. Alright, fine. But Butcher gave Murphy an open fracture to her upper arm, with enough angulation that a passerby could see the bone protruding. Likely vascular and nerve injuries. From a beastie with claws covered in dirt and other peoples' blood. She'd need to be in an OR for vascular repair within 3-4 hours tops, with staged debridement at 24 and 48 hour intervals, and probable external fixation rods instead of a plate with all the soft tissue and bone reconstruction she'd need. Surgery likely delayed by all the swelling. And no way in hell anyone would put a cast on that arm at that point - oh hey there, compartment syndrome, fancy meeting you here. Who needs arms, anyway? It's just a very dramatic wound to give a character and then have them up and running around the next day. Also: don't put hydrogen peroxide on wounds! /rant Dear Narrator, Wow. Pretty sure that if I ever get around to making kids, my grandkids will still be getting chills. Great job. Also, just a couple minor details, but uh, the "s" in "debris" is silent. It's "periph-er-al" not "periph-ry-al," and it's "miss-cheev-us" not "miss-cheev-ee-us." Just small things, really. The pacing and emotion however, great. Edge of my seat. Carry on. Best regards, My Judgmental Ear Holes P.S. I won't tell anyone about the fart.
