Sentiamo parlare di booster e di terza dose. Non avevo idea di quale fosse la differenza, per cui ho cercato di capirla.
Quello che segue l'ho scritto basandomi principalmente su 3 fonti:

Quando si usa la terza dose
La terza dose è suggerita in chi ha avuto un trapianto, problemi gravi di salute o è immunocompromesso per qualunque altra ragione.
In questi casi si teme che la persona non abbia ancora raggiunto un adeguato livello di risposta immunitaria.
Viene quindi somministrata dopo che è stato completato il ciclo vaccinale primario (quindi una o due dosi, a seconda del tipo di vaccino), di solito dopo almeno 28 giorni dall'ultima dose. E' quello che accade, ad esempio, con il vaccino della TBE.

Quando si usa il booster
Nel caso di persone che generalmente raggiungono un adeguato livello di risposta con il ciclo vaccinale primario (quindi una o due dosi), non è necessaria una "terza dose".
Con il passare del tempo, però, la capacità di risposta delle difese immunitarie inizia a diminuire, per cui si somministra un "booster". E' quello che accade, ad esempio, con il vaccino del tetano.

Il contenuto del booster e della terza dose è diverso?
No, o per lo meno non necessariamente.
L'ipotesi che si può fare in questo momento per la maggior parte dei vaccini contro il Covid è che il contenuto della fiala sia identico, anche perché non ci sono approvazioni per dosaggi o formule differenti.
Su quest'ultimo punto, però, le fonti che ho trovato non sono sempre esplicite. Se qualcuno trova qualche documentazione in più sul tema sarei molto curioso di leggerla.
