So I'm taking the Southwest Chief CHI-LAX this summer. I am flying into MDW pretty early in the AM and then train leaves in the afternoon. I have never been to Chicago so I would like to do some exploring before the train ride. 2 things:

1. Is Chicago public transit safe enough that I can bring my bags with me on the subway from MDW to Union Station? Or should I plan to get an Uber?
2. Does CHI store baggage for roomette passengers? I would like to be able to drop my bags off there instead of lugging them around the city. If they don't does anyone have any suggestions? I want to make the most of that time rather than hang out in the lounge at Union Station all day.

I’m about to graduate college and it’s just freaking me out how fast time is going by. I miss the way things used to be. Even if it sucked a lot of the time.
In high school, I had ride or die friends and we’d get up to all sorts of dumb shit and we didn’t care about anything. We would go to shows and get in trouble and drink with older people. We’d spend every day together running around the city we live in. It feels like another life. The only cares we had were if a boy liked us back.
Or in elementary school my mom would make me Nutella waffles and drive me to the bus stop and kiss my cheek. Or even my dad as he shouted at us from the sideline to play better during basketball when we were seven years old only for him to lose his shit when we scored a point.
I miss not having to worry or care or fear. I miss not looking at my parents and immediately being reminded how they are getting old. I miss my brother having his room next to mine and being 30 seconds away, not 500 miles. I miss being so close with my friends who I now send 1-2 texts to every few months.
Seriously how the hell do people do this. It makes me so depressed thinking about how things will never be the same. I’ll never share a roof with my family again or spend 5 nights in a row at my friends house just cause. I just found new friends and now am about to have to start all over again.
I just miss the way it used to be.

I recently got my CJO, and am waiting to pick my training dates. I live about an hour from ATL, so if that was available an available base, it would be my first choice… but it’s not currently. I am thinking that I plan on bidding for ATL right out of graduation, however in the meantime… which of the currently available bases (BOS, DTW, MSP, NYC, SEA, or SLC) would be the best commute for a newbie FA out of ATL? OR just the best base to move to starting out as a lower paid newbie in general? I know the pros/cons for most bases. NYC and BOS junior bases seem to be unrealistic to move to on this salary as a single woman, even though I would love to stay on the east coast… and experience the city life. Help!

I’m concerned to post this but here we go. My(24F) bf of five years (26M) and I went to the movies and I already get stressed because feels like he gets annoyed and in a bad angry mood over little things going wrong. So it was hard to find a parking spot and he was getting frustrated which made my anxiety really really horrible and I was driving this time.
Anyways I find one, I park and get out of the car and close the door. I did not slam the door because there’s a history of him getting angry if I express anger and annoyance so I wouldn’t ever intentionally slam the door.
My anxiety does make me do things quick so maybe I closed it too quick and it sounded louder than usual but it didn’t slam it.
He goes “ did u slam the door” I said “ no I didn’t slam it maybe it sounded like I closed it hard but it wasn’t intentional” He then gets out the car and slams the door very hard and aggressively to the point where his whole face strained to slam it that hard.
I go “why did u slam the door?” And he says “no I didn’t slam the door” in a sarcastic tone with a malicious smirk on his face. I felt so uneasy and like I had been attacked even though he didn’t attack me. But after that it was like nothing happened and the night went on I just don’t know and I don’t understand and I can’t forget that look on his face.

So recently I’ve gotten into a relationship, we’ve been dating for about a year now & recently agreed to officially be together. I’m 25 he’s 29. Works in tech sales etc Since the first day I met him he told me he doesn’t like woman who are “independent or overly independent” women who have the don’t need a Man mentality. fast forward to last week he told me whenever I need something make sure to ask & he got me. Fast forward to this week. I started a new job downtown and I haven’t been driving because of parking. Just taking the public transportation. Today I didn’t feel like dealing with the hassle of the bus so I texted him saying baby can you send me $20 for Uber that was $40. He started texting me things like you don’t have $40 to Uber yourself home? Why are you unprepared etc. and that completely pissed me off because why are you telling me to let you know when I need something and then when I do you make me feel bad for asking. Why do you always tell me you don’t like independent women and then when a woman decides to be a little bit less independent by asking you to help her with something you make her feel bad for asking. I got upset to the point where I told him to never communicate with me again because it seems like he’ll tell me he’s there for me but when I ask for something so small it’s a big issue I would of respected him telling me just no versus talking shit to me for asking obviously I have the money but I just want help for my man sometimes I’m not asking him to pay my rent or bills. Just be a man of your words. Did I over react? I just really hate dating men who can’t do little things for me especially because I don’t ask for too much. I decided to tell one of my guy friends that I didn’t wanna deal with the bus I wanted to Uber home and he immediately sent me the whole $40. Welcome or welcome back! I have decided to tackle the Malazan Book of The Fallen series. Because I think veteran readers will enjoy it, I will write down my reactions and speculations as I move along.
NOTE If I pose questions, I am just sharing the questions I'm thinking in real time at X scene or book. I don't actually wish for commenters to answer them for me unless it is an extreme circumstances (Mixing up characters, misremembering events in previous scenes.)

Wowee, to make up for basically only being with Karsa in the first section, we jump around A LOT in the second one. If I forget to hit a character or event or skip it, remember to please nudge me in the comments so we can talk about it!

Tavore Paran

There isn't much to talk about here because we don't get a lot of reactions out of her, even when Ganoes was revealed to be not a traitor, but also dead, making some of Tavore's questionable actions ultimately unnecessary. I like the way she handled her Fist's at her briefing, giving her orders then dismissing them when they might seek to undermine her, but it also worries me because Fiddler criticized his company commander for refusing to hear his sergeants' thoughts. There seemed to be a bit of a mirroring between the Lieutenant and the Adjunct, both nobleborn untested commanders dismissing their veteran subordinates contributions.
We do see that she is worried about Felisin, so I'm giving her a tentative pass on the whole execute your mother and send your sister to a prison-camp thing.

The Fists

Gamet seems to be suffering from an inferiority complex and/or is being ill used by Tavore, being treated like a household guard captain still, despite being named a Fist. He has a bit of a good moment when he accuses Blistig of orchestrating the omen, then backtracks when he hears Blistig's response.
Blistig is broken from witnessing the end of the Chain of Dogs and his faith in his superiors is probably cracked. He might be a problem.
Tene Baralta - the Red Blades commander, now Fist, seems to be basically the only grounded Fist here, he just wants to get out there and prosecute the war, though in the previous books, Red Blades were acting like raging psychopaths, so he might be a problem too.

FiddleStrings

Fiddler is back and he is coming off better than I remember him being in Deadhouse.
He is now basically the Whiskeyjack for a whole new squad of Malazans and he is working hard behind the scenes to make sure the Adjunct Tavore is successful. He has decent moments with everyone, gelling well with all the soldiers.
The best moment was probably when he and Cuttle (an old sapper friend) "drew a line in the sand" and got the recruit-army in formation by blowing up munitions in their faces. Paraphrased from Cuttle "WE ARE GOING TO DO THIS RIGHT OR PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DIE". Lol
OH and its hinted that if Fidder (or any Bridgeburner) makes it back to Raraku, the dead Bridgeburners will play a role in whatever Ganoes Paran is doing now.

The Quest Storylines

This is basically what I'm calling many of the plot elements introduced in this section. They are
Lostara Yil + Pearl : Quest to find Felisin. Pearl gets credit for digging up the Talon, Lostara is being dragged along for the ride.
Kalam Mekhar : Quest to kill Korbolo Dom and (Reloe)? Cotillion has him do it and he accepts because his wife is mad at him. (He meets the Malazans that escorted Karsa most of the way to Otataral Island, and in the time honored tradition of Malazans, they murdered their officers.)
Apsalar + Crokus/Cutter : Quest to (secure?) the Throne of Shadow, located on a moving island located in the mortal realm. Shadowthrone apparently does not sit it, so it is a fragment that might not be in his possession. I almost thought that ApsalaCrokus was going to fade out of the story, given a happy ending / normal life, but looks like we have more to go. I like the divorce from Crokus to Cutter, in order to protect himself Crokus has crafted a new him to lay all his sins on. All is not well in loveland.
Onrack + Trull : Quest to get the fuck out of this warren (This is the 3rd or 4th time we've had to watch characters try to escape from this shit warren.) Onrack introduces the concept that statues/icons can be inhabited by the powers they represent, then later releases two Hounds of Darkness, who might be the two Paran sent into the Warren of Dark in Gardens. Oh and we finally meet some Tiste Liosan (Light) and they are certain High Elf archetypes (aka dicks).
Karsa Orlong : Quest to do something for the Seven, but really he is probably just looking for a horse and its conveniently in the same direction. Ostensibly Sha'ik's only trustworthy bodyguard, he is leaving her to a pit of snakes. Also we discover that he isn't a Whirlwind follower like he seemed to be in Deadhouse, and he is also getting pretty done with the Seven, if he finds out they are Imass, it might be the last straw.

Book of the Fallen and Death

So I've basically decided at this point that anyone who has died is not really dead until I forget they exist. A LOT of characters have come back from the dead, in full, in spirit, or partially. If a god still wants to use you, you don't die, sometimes you get to become a god, or magic saves you.
List of people who died but are not dead off the top of my head - Tattersail, Bellurdan, Nightchill - Duiker - Ganoes Paran - Toc the Younger - Baudin (If he is the Knight of Death, im 99% sure) probably more but its very late for me, and I'm sleepy

The Whirlwind Rebellion

Things are looking very very very very very bad for this rebellion tbh. Every "officer" except MAYBE L'oric is conspiring to kill each other and/or Sha'ik. Bidithal isn't worth an ounce of slimy scum. Felisin Elder doesn't seem to be commanding well. And its home to the weirdest most complicated conspiracy I think I've seen in a book.
Korbolo Dom's plan A. Betray Malazan forces in Seven Cities, slay half your legion, assist in the uprising B. Allow High Mage Febryl to assassinate Sha'ik C. Allow Tavore Paran to defeat and kill High Mage Febryl and all Whirlwind forces not loyal to Korbolo D. Kill Tavore Paran and her army E. Destroy the rebellion and everyone who resists and return Seven Cities to the Empire F. Return to the Malazan capital, assassinate the Empress, be Emperor.
wow...just wow. I mean, good for you shooting for the stars but....what?????
Speaking of slime, even Felisin Elder couldn't stand Mallick Rell, the Jhistal Priest of Mael, so he has been sent packing. He'll pop up elsewhere, he has to get his just desserts.
The storyline going on between the two sisters opposing each other is cool and I'm down for it. I wonder what Tavore is going to do when she figures out her opponent is Felisin Elder.
Korbolo Dom does have an idea that starts off as good and then tapers off into bad. He wishes the world would be free of gods and magic so that the common man can take control of his own destiny, but then goes on to fantasize about exterminating all the other races and making his way to live the only way to live.

Shadowthrone + Cotillion

I noticed a recognizable lack of Shadow in Memories of Ice but they are back and sticking their fingers in everything again. Cotillion is straight up asking people to go on quests for him, Lostara Yil, Cutter, Kalam, so he is invested in the outcomes of their storylines. He also implies that Shadowthrone is not the master in the relationship and that they are not as unified as previously perceived in the books. There are also implications that their claim on the Shadow Warren is being contested by someone, though Anomander Rake has proprietary claim on the Throne of Shadow, he is protecting it for some reason.
I'm really lost on what their objectives are now, none of these questlines seem to be able to hurt Empress Laseen. Has the Crippled God's recent moves changed their objectives?

Conclusion

Ahhhh favorite parts are probably the tangled and sordid conspiracies happening in the Whirlwind. We had A LOT of characters this section, and there is a bit of a pattern with the books being mostly a slow burn that ramps up to several major conflicts where all the characters kind of eventually mash together, so this one is sure to be a mess for all involved. In Deadhouse we got character pairings in, in this one we get individual quests and two mega collections of characters heading towards a fight.
TBH though, this was kind of a weaker section compared to all the other ones, a few of the POV characters from previous books don't seem to have any motivation other than "Cotillion asked me to do him a favor and despite no one liking him or Shadowthrone, we said yes." Maybe I'm just cranky.
Favorite character THIS BOOK so far : I don't know, uh, Cuttle, Karsa Orlong, The sergeant that broke a shovel on Karsa's head, Shard or Cord.

The military just got given the following:
The compounded increase of 10.4% percent demonstrates Canada’s continued support of CAF members, fairly compensating them for their continued and dedicated service.
The approved economic increase are as follows:
Effective April 1, 2021, an economic increase of 1.5%; Effective April 1, 2022, an economic increase of 3.5%; Effective April 1, 2023, an economic increase of 3.0%; Effective April 1, 2024, an economic increase of 2.0%
On top of this they lost a cost of living allowance in favour of a "rental allowance" that translates into a pay cut for most military members. The rental allowance only applies for the first 7 years posted to a city not in military housing (which is charged at market rate lest it be deemed a taxable benefit). I think there's a barrel with our name on it and TB is about to put us over it.

I sought for psychiatric help in PGH. The first consultation was done in FamMed then later on was transferred to a psychiatrist. I had 2 sessions with my psychiatrist and I wasn't able to come back due to schedule conflicts.
Apart from schedule conflicts, I didn't have any budget anymore to sustain my meds since I'm a college student and my parents didn't know I'm seeking for professional help for my mental health.
I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and I later on was encouraged by my friends to get a PWD ID for me to buy my meds (because I feel the need to depend on it if I can't really go to my psychiatrist again) with the discounted price.
It took me a long while to approve my request for a medical certificate and I was able to claimed it earlier. I then headed to the PDAO Office in Quezon City Hall, with complete requirements (Barangay Clearance, Medical Certificate, and 2x2 ID, as stated in their website) but they refused to accept my Medical Certificate since it doesn't indicate the type of disability that I have (which is under Psychosocial Disability) and they wouldn't want to indicate it on their behalf because what they need was Certificate of Disability. Before coming there, I researched here and with other sites that Medical Certificate is the requirement needed so I assume it's what I've got from PGH. My problem now is how can I request the Certificate of Disability in their website? Because I think it still falls under the Medical Certificate category. If I also contact my psychiatrist, it may take a while to receive a reply.

Been training about 2 years. I understand all the basic fundamentals, but it's struggle city over here. Still have trouble with a good amount of white belts(they're usually bigger and stronger, but not always). And unless I'm facing a smaller female I still find I end up defending in bad spots a lot. I'm seeing other blue belts giving purples and up a hard time, but I just feel like I'm getting smashed all the time. I know blue belt is still a beginner rank, and I try to soak up as much as I can. But it just kinda feels like every time I train I'm taking one step forward, two steps back. The higher belts I consistently train with are telling me they're seeing improvement and that I'm doing well, but I just don't see it. When do I stop getting ggpwnt every time I roll? I have absolutely no intention of quitting, I'm planning on training bjj for the rest of my life. But I definitely see why people quit at blue belt.
Context: I go at least twice a week, sometimes 3. Unable to bump that up due to family/schedule.

Hi there – my cat was admitted to the vets last week after we noticed he was hiding and not wanting his dinner. Turned out he had a urinary blockage and had to have a catheter put in – he stayed at the vet from Wednesday night to Friday afternoon. The vet told us he wasn't eating much, and asked us to call him ASAP if he didn't pee in the next 36 hours or if he wasn't eating. He also told us to give him metacam every night for five nights, from Saturday.
He came home and immediately ate a full dinner, and overnight used the litterbox, so we figured he was all okay. The next day he ate quite a bit less, but I had been attempting to mix some new bladder health wet food in with his regular wet food so we figured that was the issue. But five days later he seems to be eating less and less – we have had to put the medicine onto Temptations treats (the only thing he does eat) and he seems to be off both his regular wet food (just licking the jelly) and his regular dry food. He is eating a little bit, but nowhere near his normal amount – he used to scoff down his wet food immediately at dinner time and generally eat all his dry food over the course of the day.
We have been monitoring his litterbox as he is using it a lot, and there is pee there (although often only a little bit at a time). So he doesn't seem to have reblocked. However he is still grooming a lot more than usual, especially the shaved area around his genitals.
We really don't want to take him to the vet unless absolutely necessary, as being taken to the vet is what stressed him out in the first place and caused his first blockage (we took him to get matted fur removed as there are no cat groomers in our city).
Just generally looking for advice from other people whose cats have recovered from urinary blockages or been on metacam. How long did it take for them to go back to normal? Is lack of appetite common in this situation?

So recently I’ve gotten into a relationship, we’ve been dating for about a year now & recently agreed to officially be together. I’m 25 he’s 29. Works in tech sales etc Since the first day I met him he told me he doesn’t like woman who are “independent or overly independent” women who have the don’t need a Man mentality. fast forward to last week he told me whenever I need something make sure to ask & he got me. Fast forward to this week. I started a new job downtown and I haven’t been driving because of parking. Just taking the public transportation. Today I didn’t feel like dealing with the hassle of the bus so I texted him saying baby can you send me $20 for Uber that was $40. He started texting me things like you don’t have $40 to Uber yourself home? Why are you unprepared etc. and that completely pissed me off because why are you telling me to let you know when I need something and then when I do you make me feel bad for asking. Why do you always tell me you don’t like independent women and then when a woman decides to be a little bit less independent by asking you to help her with something you make her feel bad for asking. I got upset to the point where I told him to never communicate with me again because it seems like he’ll tell me he’s there for me but when I ask for something so small it’s a big issue I would of respected him telling me just no versus talking shit to me for asking obviously I have the money but I just want help for my man sometimes I’m not asking him to pay my rent or bills. Just be a man of your words. Did I over react? I just really hate dating men who can’t do little things for me especially because I don’t ask for too much. I decided to tell one of my guy friends that I didn’t wanna deal with the bus I wanted to Uber home and he immediately sent me the whole $40. Makes me feel sad that a guy I’m in a relationship with can’t do that for me but a friend can.

I (29F) have a very small circle of friends, my best friends has been my cousins since i was a little girl we are very close to this day. But outside of my cousins i have a few friends here and there some from collage some from my internship but they're not friends with each other.
As time passed my friends have gotten married, some with children and some moved to another city but still inside our state.
We have discussed before how our dynamic would change after them getting married but it's not the same once you're in that situation.
So my best friend got married, moved and has a kid. She comes to my city to visit her parents or to attend workshops and get further education.
She delivered her baby boy last December he is a new born and i adore him so much. But when she visits now she doesn't tell me, she came for 3 weeks and i knew by accident that she was here and told her whenever she's free i would like to see her and spend time with her baby since i don't get to see him often. And i have noticed that the couple of times before ( before she had her baby )i also knew by accident that she was in town and i was the one who asked to see her.
I know everyone deals with stress differently with a new baby and living in another town that's allot of responsibility and stress. But i feel like i'm loosing her and honestly she is the only friend i have left outside my cousins.

Hello Everyone :) Hope all is well. Looking to hear your thoughts on the Citroen Electric-C3, I absolutely love the car. It fit all my needs which are fairly minimal perfectly. I had a few concerns but they were all met by additional accessories offered by Citroen (Parking Cam , Alloys) This car will be driven ONLY in the city roughly 20kms/day. I don't ever go above 80 itself so the power is sufficient for me. I test drove the Nexon EV and actually found that the C3 gave me a better driving experience. I understand people in this sub had concerns about the air cooled battery,but in introspection,it made sense because all international cars have their EV battery placed below covered with a strong casing- making it resistant to hump damage. I would love to hear all your pondering before I make a judgement. Looking to hear from owners if any. Thanks y'all!
