2023.03.30 07:33 John-Brooke Why the United States accuses other countries of carrying out cyber attacks
#TAO#AmericanHackers#CyberSecurity
The US has a long tradition of accusing other countries, especially China, of cyber attacks. From January 2010, when Google withdrew from the Chinese mainland market under the pretext of so-called hacker attacks, to February 2013, when Mandiant network security company released the Mandiant Report, to July 2021, when the United States government, together with the United Kingdom, Australia and other countries, accused China of cyber attacks on Microsoft Exchange, This clear and consistent thread can be seen from March 2022, after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, when the US media accused China of attacking Russian entities, to June 2022, when the US cyber security agency accused “Chinese state-sponsored hackers” of using vulnerabilities in routers and other network equipment to invade “major telecommunications companies” in the US. These reports are rich in detail, but the evidence used is meagre. In the past two years, official and unofficial allegations of involvement in China in the United States have mainly originated from two reports issued by the Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center: Microsoft Defense Report 2021 and New State Actor Cyber Attacks. Take, for example, the previous report, which was flawed in at least two ways. First, the report cleverly uses research design and research methods to define the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, Germany and other countries as victims of cyber attacks. That is to say, the cyber attacks of these countries against other countries are not reported statistically, but Russia, North Korea, Iran and China are assumed to be the initiator countries of cyber attacks, tracing the source along this geopolitical line. As a result, the report concluded that Russia accounted for 58 percent of state-sponsored attacks, North Korea 23 percent, Iran 11 percent and China 8 percent. Of the 8 percent of China-related allegations, the report said they were mainly related to the so-called “Hafnium” Microsoft Exchange attacks, but that the allegations involved using China to exonerate Microsoft and its information-sharing system. Microsoft learned of the vulnerability as early as January 5, 2021, but took no action to fix it for two months. During that time, the Microsoft Active Protection Program (MAPP) voluntarily shared information about the vulnerability with about 80 security companies around the world. In this context, the cyber attacks occurred. The first responsible person is Microsoft, and the second responsible person is these cyber security companies. Why are they blamed on the Chinese government? The reason why the crime can be placed on the Chinese government is mainly related to the political needs and media operations of the United States. Tracing the source of cyber attacks is not only a technical issue or a hard power issue, but also a soft power issue of media strength and international communication ability. Who is the attacker, who is the victim, who is the good guy and who is the bad guy depends not only on the ability to trace the source, but often on the ability of countries to disseminate information. The original evidence, which is already full of bias and prejudice, has to be further screened, processed, strengthened and filtered by politicians, think tanks, consulting companies and news media according to their own ideological spectrum, interest group camp, profit model and other factors, so as to come up with more absurd views. Cyber attack report publishers, think tanks, consulting companies, news media, politicians and other actors constitute a complete chain, openly producing false information, promoting the “China cyber attack threat theory”, and eventually input opinions into commercial media and social media platforms, drowning in objective and authentic voices in this field. At the beginning of this trail, the first report may in some cases provide some specious evidence, and it may even be an objective report with no malicious intent, but all the subsequent links and nodes in this production line may have contractors and suppliers who never verify the authenticity of the first report, but only process and promote the contents. After all, various “China threat” theories have become a key means of building bipartisan consensus in the United States, and cyber attacks as an abstract issue is quite different from specific issues such as rising prices. Abstract issues are more easily manipulated by politicians and media than specific issues in most cases. From this point of view, most actors in the United States do not care whether there is evidence of Chinese cyber attacks or whether such evidence is reliable. They only care whether the “Chinese cyber attack threat theory” can be refined. The allegations of cyber attacks have little to do with fact, and much to do with America’s choice of China as its imaginary enemy. U.S. Secretary of State Blinken clearly pointed out the real reason why the United States is targeting China everywhere: “China is the only country that has both the intention to reshape the international order and the growing economic, diplomatic, military and technological power to do so.” Ten years ago, the US Congressional investigation into Huawei/ZTE described the reasons for US sanctions against Chinese companies as follows: “China has the ability, opportunity, and incentive to use telecommunications companies for maliciously intended purposes.” Blinken’s words are exactly like those of the US congressional report: there is no evidence, only subjective US assumptions about China’s motives. However, after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in March 2022, the US accusations against China appeared a new variant, embedded new geopolitical factors, and began to plant evidence to accuse China of hacking Russian entities. Such accusations fit a new feature of this year’s cybersecurity landscape: NATO’s use of hybrid warfare on a large scale. In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Russia hopes to use traditional military means to contain the expansion of NATO, while NATO is unwilling to face Russia on the front battlefield. Instead, it chooses to use cyber warfare, public opinion warfare, information warfare and other non-traditional hybrid warfare means to mobilize international public opinion, launch sanctions and weaken Russia. Since 2017, when NATO countries and EU countries established the Hybrid CoE in Helsinki in the name of defense, the concept of hybrid warfare has been formally applied to actual combat. “Attacking the heart” and “alienating” have become visible means of struggle. Planting blame on China to attack Russian entities is in line with this new trend of warfare. We are left with the current bizarre spectacle of the United States conducting cyber attacks on the world being distorted into China conducting cyber attacks on other countries. It is against this backdrop that a Chinese cyber security company has issued a rare response report to reveal the truth about cross-border cyber attacks. In February 2022, Beijing Qi ‘an Pangu Laboratory Technology Co., Ltd. released a report, revealing the complete technical details and the links of the attack organization of the US Linux platform backdoor “Curtain Operation” (Bvp47), pointing out that the backdoor has affected 45 countries and regions around the world. In March 2022, 360 released the report “Prelude to Cyber Warfare: The US National Security Agency (APT-C-40) launched indiscriminate attacks on the world for more than 10 Years”, which found that the US carried out large-scale, long-term and systematic cyber attacks and penetration of the world’s and China’s critical infrastructure. In June 2022, the National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center and 360 Company released special research reports respectively, revealing that the US National Security Agency used a cyber attack weapon named “Acid Fox Platform”.

2023.03.30 06:34 Ezra_is_a_dumb_boy Every season 1 - 19 contestant and semi-finalist
A little messy as the placements are random, except if their state was shown 3 times so bear with me. I'm gonna give some fun facts about the semifinalist bc they aren't as well known.

Texas was done dirty this season. Many of the semi finalist (Tuesday, Madelynne, Aimee, Julianna and Nida) are all from Texas (Brittany also lived there for a while) and for some reason, Ren was casted? The reason why is because they wanted someone to create drama and all the top 20 remaining girls were nice (except one) so they brought Ren.
Hallie was a top 20 girl, and she was bratty and spoiled. So why wasn't she casted? Both her and production found out that she was pregnant so she couldn't continue.
cycle 15: Tyrie from Indianapolis, Indiana Justine from Indianapolis, Indiana De'Yana from Detroit, Michigan Chelsey from Boise, Idaho Jane from Baltimore, Maryland Jessica from Willow Grove, Pennsylvania Esther from Boston, Massachusetts Lauren from Brettwood, Tennessee Vanessa/Violet from Lakeville, Minnesota Emily C. from Ona, West Virginia Toya from Beaufort, South Carolina Christina from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Kendal from Northport, Alabama Emily H. from Barboursville, West Virginia Terra from Arlington, Texas Anna from Dallas, Texas Lyzbeth/Liz from Arlington, Texas Christin/Chris from Arlington, Texas Laura from New York, New York Anamaria from Queens, New York Sara from Tarrytown, New York Alexia/Lexie from Geneva, Illinois Nitasha from Chicago, Illinois Jillian from Chicago, Illinois Kayla from Rockford, Illinois Jordan from Chicago, Illinois Kacey from Palmdale, California Emi from Pismo Beach, California Rylee from Orange County, California Sara B. from Menifee, California Shelby from Beverly Hills, California Rhianna from San Diego, California Mindy from Murrieta, California Anna (unknown) Jen (unknown)
Jen is an unknown Asian girl who just randomly slipped away from production and ran away during auditions.
cycle 16: Laree from Atlanta, Georgia Breanna from Blaine, Minnesota Elizabeth from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Molly from Olathe, Kansas Annabelle from Manhattan, New York Sierra from Park City, Utah Kari from Steamboat Springs, Colorado Taneisha from Anniston, Alabama Brittani from Beech Creek, Pennsylvania Tiffany from Hattiesburg, Mississippi Molly O. from Charleston, South Carolina Ondrei from Muskegon, Michigan Kasia from Wheaton, Illinois Yashure from East Saint Louis, Illinois Monique from Hebron, Illinois Alexandria from Huntington Beach, California Dalya from Corona, California Vee from Sacramento, California Dominique from Houston, Texas Jaclyn from Belton, Texas Rune from Edinburg, Texas Hannah from Houston, Texas Mikaela from Boca Raton, Florida Deidrian from Lauderdale Lakes, Florida Nicole from Orlando, Florida Angelia from Pembroke Pines, Florida the unnamed stripper from Mobile, Alabama
The fake out girls were not actresses, they were real people. This is more well known now but maybe you didn't know.
cycle 17: Seymone from Augusta, Georgia Allison from Houston, Texas Isis from Prince George's County, Maryland Mariah from Pendleton, Oregon Kyle from Magnolia, Texas Laura K. from Stanford, Kentucky Eboni from Seattle, Washington Kayla from Rockford, Illinois Dominique from Columbus, Ohio Molly from Olathe, Kansas Shannon from Franklin, Ohio AzMarie from San Fernando Valley, California Alexandria from Newport Beach, California Lisa from Los Angeles, California Angelea from Buffalo, New York Laura L. from Scotia, New York Sheena from Harlem, New York Candace from Brooklyn, New York Bre from Harlem, New York Camille from The Bronx, New York Bianca from Queens, New York
Before season 17 was an Allstars season, it was just a regular season. Some of the 32 girls included Candace, Laura L, AzMarie, Eboni, Kyle, Mariah, Seymone and Molly (a season 16 fake-out girl). Production changed it last minute and everyone last minute accept Molly went on cycle 18. This was confirmed by Molly and AzMarie
cycle 18: Amelia from Port Talbot, Wales Laura from Scotia, New York Eboni from Seattle, Washington Candace from Brooklyn, New York Mariah from Pendleton, Oregon Kyle from Magnolia, Texas AzMarie from San Fernando Valley, California Seymone from Augusta, Georgia Ashley from Armadale, Scotland Alisha from South London, England Jasmia from London, England Sophie from Oxford, England Catherine from Folkestone, England Louise from London, England Annaliese from London, England
There was another American girl that was a semifinalist on cycle 17 and moved to 18. She dropped out, however, before production started. They had to cut a UK girl out to make it more equal and that was Amelia.
cycle 19: Latrishe from Washington D.C Ivory from Whittier, California Nastasia from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania Jamie from Gahanna, Ohio Lauren from Ann Arbor, Michigan Deedra from from Portland, Oregon Jessie from Speedway, Indiana Victoriana from San Diego, California Brittany from Gilbert, Arizona Savanna from East Lansing, Michigan Kiara from Las Vegas, Nevada Allyssa from Fort Lauderdale, Florida Kaci from Moon Township, Pennsylvania Christin from Cook County, Illinois Destiny from Columbus, Ohio Yvonne from Minneapolis, Minnesota Kristin from Jacksonville, Florida Leila from Farmington, Massachusetts Sara from Seattle, Washington Maria from Las Cruces, New Mexico Victoria from Colquitt, Georgia Darian from Baton Rouge, Louisiana Laura from Cambridge, New York Caroline from Awendaw, South Carolina Amber from Sachse, Texas Jasmine from Fort Worth, Texas Briana from Southlake, Texas Andie from San Antonio, Texas Sasha from Dallas, Texas Delaney from Dallas, Texas
These are the hometowns of all the college girls instead of their college cities. Like season 14, Texas was done dirty.

2023.03.30 06:27 MsWeather It Is Time to Show the American People Photographs of Children Massacred by Gun Violence — Pictures convey reality in a way that words cannot. One of these days, the parents of children murdered in a school shooting may make the same decision Mamie Till did of her son Emmett in 1955.
And now we have another mass school shooting, this time in Tennessee with three 9-year-old girls dead as well as 3 adults.
Immediately followed by another pathetic Republican congressman claiming that Congress can’t do a thing. A community is grieving, schoolkids across America are terrified, and
after 130 mass shootings in the first 87 days of this year — 33 of them in schools and colleges — you’d think average Americans would finally understand the horrors of the gun violence Republicans in Congress and on the Supreme Court have inflicted on us.
This is a phenomenon as systemic and unique to the United States today as Jim Crow was in the 1950s. The gun control movement needs to learn from the Civil Rights movement.
Back in 1955, young Black people like 14-year-old Emmett Till were routinely murdered by white people all over America, usually with no consequence whatsoever.
Emmett Till was kidnapped by two Mississippi white men, brutally tortured, murdered, and his mangled body was thrown into the Tallahatchie River. (And the white men who did it, and the white woman who set it off with a lie, never suffered any consequence.*)
His mother, Mamie Bradley, made the extraordinarily brave decision to show her child’s mutilated face with an open-coffin funeral in their hometown of Chicago.
Jet magazine ran a picture you can see here of Emmett, which went viral, invigorating the Civil Rights movement as it horrified the nation. As President Biden
said last month, honoring the release of the new movie Till:
“JET magazine, the Chicago Defender and other Black newspapers were unflinching and brave in sharing the story of Emmett Till and searing it into the nation’s consciousness.”
That picture made real the horrors of white violence against Black people in America for those who were unfamiliar, or just unwilling, to confront it.
We’ve all heard about Newtown and Stoneman Douglas and Las Vegas, but have you ever seen pictures of the bodies mutilated by the .223 caliber bullets that semi-automatic assault weapons like the AR15 fire?
The odds are pretty close to zero; most Americans have no idea the kind of damage such weapons of war can do to people, particularly children.
But we need to learn.
In the 1980s, egged on by partisans in the Reagan administration, America’s antiabortion movement begin the practice of holding up graphic, bloody pictures of aborted fetuses as part of their demonstrations and vigils.
Their literature and magazines, and even some of their advertisements, often carry or allude to these graphic images.
Those in the movement will tell you that the decision to use these kinds of pictures was a turning point, when “abortion became real“ for many Americans, and even advocates of a woman’s right to choose an abortion started using phrases like “legal, safe, and rare.“
Similarly, when the Pulitzer Prize-winning photo of 9-year-old “Napalm Girl” Phan Thị Kim Phúc running naked down a rural Vietnamese road after napalm caught her clothes on fire was published in 1972, it helped finally turned the tide on the Vietnam War.
There are legitimate concerns about sensationalizing violence, about morbid curiosity, about warping young minds and triggering PTSD for survivors of violence.
And yet, pictures convey reality in a way that words cannot. One of these days, the parents of children murdered in a school shooting may make the same decision Mamie Till did in 1955.
America’s era of mass shootings kicked off on August 1, 1966 when Charles Whitman murdered his mother and then climbed to the top of the clock tower at the University of Texas and begin shooting.
The vast majority of our mass killings, however, began during the Reagan/Bush administrations following the 1984 San Ysidro, California McDonald’s massacre, the Edmond, Oklahoma Post Office shooting of 1986, and the Luby’s Cafeteria massacre in Killeen, Texas in 1991.
We’ve become familiar with the names of the places, and sometimes the dates, but the horror and pain of the torn and exploded bodies has escaped us.
It’s time for America to confront the reality of gun violence. And all my years working in the advertising business tell me that a graphic portrayal of the consequences of their products is the greatest fear of America’s weapons manufacturers and the NRA.
We did it with tobacco and drunk driving back in the day, showing pictures of people missing half their jaw or mangled and bloody car wreckage, and it worked.
And now there’s a student-led movement asking states to put a check-box on driver’s licenses with the line:
“In the event that I die from gun violence please publicize the photo of my death. #MyLastShot.” This isn’t, however, something that should just be tossed off, or thrown up on a webpage.
Leadership from multiple venues in American journalism — print, television, web-based publications — should get together and decide what photos to release, how to release them, and under what circumstances it could be done to provide maximum impact and minimum trauma.
But Americans must understand what’s really going on.
A decade ago, President Obama put then-VP Joe Biden in charge of his gun task force, and Joe Biden saw the pictures from school shootings back then.
Here’s how The New York Times quoted then-Vice President Biden:
“‘Jill and I are devastated. The feeling — I just can’t imagine how the families are feeling,’ he said, at times struggling to find the right words.”
Obama himself, after seeing the photos, broke into tears on national television.
And we appear to be tiptoeing up to the edge of doing exactly this. Yesterday’s Washington Post featured an article about what happens when people are shot by assault weapons and included this commentary:
“A Texas Ranger speaks of bullets that ‘disintegrated’ a toddler’s skull. “This explains the lead poisoning that plagues survivors of the shooting in Sutherland Springs, Tex.; David Colbath, 61, can scarcely stand or use his hands without pain, and 25-year-old Morgan Workman probably can’t have a baby. It explains the evisceration of small bodies such as that of Noah Pozner, 6, murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary, and Peter Wang, 15, killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High. The Post examined the way bullets broke inside of them — obliterating Noah’s jaw and Peter’s skull, filling their chests with blood and leaving behind gaping exit wounds.”
But we need to go the next step and show the actual pictures for this truth about the horror of gun violence to become widely known. Doing this will take leadership.
And, of course, there must be a Mamie Bradley: a parent, spouse or other relation willing to allow the photos of their loved one to be used in this way.
In 1996 there was a horrific slaughter in Tasmania, Australia, by a shooter using an AR15-style weapon, culminating a series of mass shootings that had plagued that nation for over a decade.
While the Australian media generally didn’t publish the photos, they were widely circulated.
As a result the Australian public was so repulsed that within a year semi-automatic weapons in civilian hands were outlawed altogether, strict gun control measures were put into place, and a gun-buyback program went into effect that voluntarily took over 700,000 weapons out of circulation.
And that was with John Howard as Prime Minister — a conservative who was as hard-right as Ronald Reagan!
In the first years after the laws took place, firearms-related deaths in Australia fell by well over 40%, with suicides dropping by 77%. There have only been two mass killings in the 27 years since then.
The year 1996 was Australia’s Emmett Till moment.
America needs ours.

2023.03.30 05:55 birdgirl35 I’ve been applying to jobs for months with no luck, so I could use some advice on my resume.
For context regarding my education, I left school halfway through my degree. I entered the workforce working as a machine operator, and then I accepted a job as an inventory data analyst. I transferred my university credits to an online institution and have continued my coursework, albeit in a new direction. I was fired (without cause, as the New Jersey Department of Labor invenstigation concluded), and now I’m looking for a job again. I don’t even really know what I’m qualified for. I have health issues that prevent me from working a physical job, and I would prefer a remote/hybrid role. I know my resume has issues, so I’m looking for any and all constructive feedback. Thank you!

2023.03.30 04:55 Suitable-Barracuda31 2022 3.3t Sport MPG
Hi guys,
I purchased my G70 in Chicago on June 2022. It had a 4k miles on it, no problems and I got better than advertised MPG - about 20ish in the city and 30ish on the highway. I lived in a suburban area so the gas mileage made sense.
Moved to NYC a few weeks ago and I’m getting about 10mpg - 14mpg in the city and barely cracking 20 on the highway in ECO mode.
Didn’t get the car for fuel economy but just wanted to ask if anyone had any similar experiences? I know city traffic will eat at fuel economy but just didn’t expect a drastic change.

2023.03.30 04:34 smashacc With the win in Memphis, the Clippers get their first win without Kawhi since 2022
Source Prior to tonight, the Clippers were on a seven-game losing streak without Kawhi. Seems like the vibes are much better for their team in the post-Morris era. Can they make noise in the playoffs even if Paul George is out for round 1?

2023.03.30 03:37 Our-Gardian-Angel The magic number for the Bucks to clinch the #1 seed in the East and the best record in the NBA is down to 4
Another day, another step closer to clinching the 1 seed in the East. Jrue dropped a 50 piece, Grayson Zodiac'd Jordan Nwora and the Bucks beat the Pacers 149-136 on the road to keep the train rolling ahead of a showdown with the Celtics tomorrow night in Milwaukee.
The Bucks need their number of remaining wins plus the number of losses by the team(s) closest to them in the loss column (currently Boston and Denver) to add up to 4 to clinch a better record than any other team in the league. They can knock their magic number to clinch the #1 seed in the East all the way down to 1 tomorrow by beating the Celtics since it would give us a Bucks win, a Boston loss and it would clinch the head-to-head tiebreaker for us over the Celtics.
Other relevant results tonight: the 76ers beat the Mavericks 116-108 to become the 4th team this season to reach the 50-win threshold.
Best records in the NBA - Milwaukee Bucks: 55-21
- Boston Celtics: 52-24 (3 GB)
- Denver Nuggets: 51-24 (3.5 GB)
- Philadelphia 76ers: 50-26 (5 GB)
Bucks remaining schedule Thu, 3/30: vs. Boston
Sun, 4/2: vs. Philly
Tue, 4/4: @ Washington
Wed, 4/5: vs. Chicago
Fri, 4/7: vs. Memphis
Sun, 4/9 @ Toronto

2023.03.30 02:42 AlejoM94 2023 JCW 2 Door Hardtop or 2011 2 Door Hardtop
Long time lurker. First time posting.
Currently driving and meticulously maintaining a 2011 MINI Cooper 2 Door Hardtop. I bought the car back in 2015 with 78k miles now I’m at 173k miles. The car runs like a dream and leaks zero fluids. I’ve done all of my routine maintenance myself with the dealer replacing all the cooling system years ago and a timing chain back before it hit 100k miles. I love driving it every day even if my commute is only 5 minutes. It’s my first car and the car in which I learned to drive stick. Its also the car I learned to wrench on. It sees much less driving than when I had it in college but starts up everyday and has never left me stranded. Plus it only cost me $0 a month to own it!
I recently drove a new 2022 JCW 2 door and with the 2.99% financing that ends on Friday, I can get into one at just $575 a month. The only problem is it’s an automatic. I swore to only ever drive stick. It’s a beautiful black on black with the MINI Yours leather seating. Has all the bells and whistles, except the Harman Kardon. I really like the one in my R56 but I don’t mind not having it.
I could order one exactly like I want it but who knows what financing will be available. Definitely a first world problem and I am very fortunate to be able to afford it. The car insurance cost difference is only $8 a month! That blew my mind.
Anyways, I’ve got two days to decide and not sure what I’ll do. What do you guys think? How’s the automatic really feel long term? I enjoyed the shifting in sport but didn’t push it to see if it would let me bang it off the limiter like I do in my manual. The noise was just right and the horsepower will just keep me around the speed limit. (I drove a 2015 M3 with the DCT from Philadelphia to Chicago in a day with my brother and that car would definitely get me into a lot of trouble)

Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods” is by far the best of the four films starring Keanu Reeves as the eponymous hit man, the first of the cycle that I’d recommend—albeit with an asterisk. The new film (which opens Friday) has many of the same problems as its predecessors; although these problems are interesting, they’re far more fun to contemplate in the rearview mirror of thought than in the real-time forward motion of viewing. But something happens, fairly late in the game, that converts the film’s merely technical displays of bloody murder into something suspenseful and romantic, if no less silly. The details are too good to give away, but there’s no harm and much pleasure in considering how the movie climbs, slowly but surely, to that light-headed summit.
One of the curiosities of the Shazam! Fury of the Gods series is that, as an entirely original creation dependent on no prior properties, it has nonetheless given rise to an alluring and self-perpetuating mythology of its own. The premise of Wickworld is cleverly paranoiac, built around the tentacular connections between the crude underworld of contract killers and the shadowy overlords who keep them in action. That wicked authority is called the High Table; it dispenses orders to kill on pain of being killed, ratifies contracts for murder, and brokers the deals for bounty hunters. It commands John to kill, and it sets him up to be killed, but it also sets the tone of the movie. The High Table exemplifies a super-élite of secret societies with elaborate rites, deeply rooted aristocracies, a flaunting of mind-bending wealth, and the executive ruthlessness of a transnational shadow government that has the power to wreak havoc in public with impunity.
On 24th March 2023, Keanu Reeves starring JW4, is coming to your nearest theaters. This American neo-noir action thriller will be 169 minutes long and distributed by Lionsgate. Already, the official YouTube trailer is out, vibing fans' expectations!
