But Dumbledore was surprisingly difficult to pin down when he tried to hand in his two weeks. It was nearly three months before he was able to track him down. He did so by sticking Dumbledore's iridescent robes to his during breakfast for the fifth time. This time stealing a devils snare from Pomona to keep Dumbledore tied to his chair. Dumbledore's eyes sparkled as he refused to accept his resignation.
"Really Severus," he said, "after everything we've been through? After the sacrifices we've made to get you here? I can't protect you from the ministry out there. Best give it a year or two, until I can find your replacement. "
Begrudgingly and guiltily he agreed. But years went by and nothing had changed. He needed a plan. Anything to get away from these dunderheaded children.
He applied to the Defense Against the Dark Arts position for the first time five years after he started as a teacher.
"My passion has always been in protecting oneself." He told the hiring committee. He even made it to the second round of interviews.

I’m not sure if this would be considered an intrusive thought or anything but, it’s around 3 am for me and I had just got up from my desk(been gaming a lot more recently and i’ve been taking it too far with staying up late, I try not too). I get up, grab my phone, turn my light off and start getting undressed for bed. I just sleep in a shirt and boxers. As I was taking my sweatshirt of, I was facing my wall meaning, my windows(which the blinds are always shut) and my door are to my back. I used to get freaked out in the dark but it’s actually starting helping me with other mental health related issues. But, I’m standing here and I had the “There’s something behind me and it’s going to get me and it’s watching me” I haven’t thought like that in a long time. I had to turn around and check. I checked my laptop to make sure the camera was pointing down and away from me, I check my xbox in case there was a hidden thing on it that could be watching me. I almost started having a panic attack by how freaked out I was. The last time I had a thought like this was months ago when I started to feel extremely depressed and anxious all of the time, to the point where leaving my house was becoming a rare occurrence. I’m freaking out now because I’m just waiting for it to get bad again. I don’t know what to do So now i’m just waiting and laying bed because i’m so nervous. I might try listening to asmr but i’m not sure headphones are going to help with feeling of something in here with me go away

I was diagnosed at 19. I was always a very anxious and paranoid child as I grew up. I’d be scared of the dark, scared to go to the bathroom alone, scared of underneath my bed, scared of mirrors at night, scared of my wardrobe being slightly opened, etc. As I got a little older, I started developing these tricks to trick myself into being not scared. Ex: I was scared of going in the basement by myself, so I would start to sing very loudly and aggressively, I would also do this kind of dancing/punching movements. I guess I thought that distracting myself from hearing any kind of sounds would help me. I would also be very fast, no time to waste in such a scary place.
One time, I arrived home, screamed “hi !” to my sister and mother who seemed to be in the basement. I was making myself some food in the kitchen, when I heard them talking, but they seemed to be in a very serious conversation. I was curious so I went downstairs to tell them about my day, There was no one. They were gone somewhere and I was home alone. I literally RAN upstairs as fast as I could.
Another time, I was maybe 8-9 years old, I was sharing a bunk bed with my sister. I had the top bed. One night, I couldn’t sleep, I sat down in my bed, staring at my room. Then I looked at my dresser, I could clearly see a brown and white cat staring at me. We had 2 cats yes, but the ones we had did not look like that one. He seemed like an old cat, his fur was long and scruffy and his eyes were yellow. As I was staring at him, I tried to rub my eyes, change the angle of my vision, to make sure I wasn’t imagining him. Yet he was still there, sitting on my dresser, staring at me. I started to get scared. I started shaking my bed to make some noises so my parents would come see me. My dad got up, he entered the room asking what was wrong. I pointed at the cat and told him that this wasn’t our cat. He turned on the light, and suddenly, there was no cat. He laughed at me saying it was probably a dream.
I have a lot more but I’ll keep it short for now. Has anyone experienced these kind of hallucinations ? What do you do when it happens ?

There is coming a time—perhaps not too far in the future—when all the kings and other rulers of the world will “have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast” (v. 13), the great humanistic world system of the last days, whose Satan-possessed leader will then have power “given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations” (13:7).
Only one opponent will remain, the Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, against whom “the kings of the earth...take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us” (Psalm 2:2-3).
So they will proceed to “make war with the Lamb,” but they will lose! At the final “appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ...he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords” (1 Timothy 6:14-15). He, who as God’s sacrificial Lamb has taken “away the sin of the world” (John 1:29), is greater than all kings and rulers.
No longer as the submissive Lamb before His shearers (Isaiah 53:7), but as the “Word of God,” out of whose once-silent mouth now “goeth a sharp sword” with which He shall “smite the nations.” He will have “on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords” (Revelation 19:13, 15-16).
Indeed, the kings and leaders of the whole world will think they can successfully “make war with the Lamb,” but He “shall overcome them.” In that great day that is coming, it will be far better to be with Him than with them! HMM

I (24 F) A and my husband (26 M) Zee have a mutual friend (23 m) “Alex” who recently moved his now roommate (22 M) “john” across the country into a 1 bedroom apartment.
Before that John told Alex to break up with his then boyfriend, so they can be together instead, so Alex broke off his relationship, flew across country to help John move in with the belief that they would be together, split the bills, and the chores.
On the way back Alex Paid for the U-Haul, Gas, food and snacks, while John paid for nothing because he “didn’t have the money” (which was lie)…. John has a criminal record (his story keeps changing about what it is) plays video games 24/7, no money, and no real job.
Two days after John moved in he got into a new relationship, brought the guy over to spend the night, and kicks Alex out every time someone comes over (even though it’s his apartment, johns name isn’t on the lease), John doesn’t pay bills, rent, or groceries.
Any time John wants something he manipulates Alex into buying it, it’s gotten to the point where he’s working almost 15 hours a day, 6X a week and now considering getting another job on top of that just to be able to afford everything.
My husband and I have talked to him multiple times saying we don’t trust him, nor do we like him.
Zee and I live in the same complex as Alex, and John so we see them pretty often. John started working at a place that was paying him pretty well, he quit 3 days later now saying he wants to work with Alex, Now Zee and Alex work together in the same company which does work for the government.
This company is very strict on any sort of drugs. before you get an interview they will drug test you, after you finish the interview they will drug test you again, and they also do random drug tests.
Because of the random drug tests Alex and Zee tend to not smoke in order to not loose their jobs, John bought fake urine for the first drug test, and passed now he has an upcoming interview.
Alex is a very sweet loving guy who gets taken advantage of a lot, by family, and friends, so we tend to be protective over him since he doesn’t know how to say no, nor does he ever stand up for himself. Alex has gone through a lot, never really knew his father, and he was best friends with his mom who sadly passed last year.
Alex has a twin sister who also takes advantage of him, because of her he is in a lot of debt and has a super bad credit because of all of this Alex tends to give everything he has to people so they won’t leave him, he’s extremely depressed and suicidal.
John keeps breaking his heart every time a new man comes (he basically rubs it in his face) he’s making Alex loose a lot of money, working basically 24/7 and that in return has made Alex unstable. Now brings me to the part where I need advice in, zee and I have been trying to find ways to get rid of him and can’t seem to figure out what to do so please help!

Hobbies: I play video games a lot, but I also like to bake and learn how to decorate cakes. I enjoy playing instruments and used to play the violin a lot. My mother introduced me to the beading loom, and it really makes me stay occupied and away from the computer. I would also really like to explore places, but I am usually afraid to do it by myself (come with me!!!) I like to write poems or lyrics into my phone and sometimes I like to imagine I'm in a rock/metal band.
Pets: I love dogs! I have two dogs right now and they have been with me since childhood. Cats are cute, and I would love to meet a cuddly cat. I'm fine with any pet, and I think it is nice to know what other people are interested in and care for.
Education: I currently enrolled in a community college, and I take two or three classes to slowly build my undergraduate degree. I think I'm leaning towards a healthcare profession, and I hope to maybe explore more from volunteering.

Doshi: It’s very interesting that whatever is happening globally is just reinforcing our thought process and our belief that India is on the right track. We could never have expected such sort of accidents in our system. While we always think that we have regulatory challenges in India, today, I think it is a very big blessing.
I think whatever is happening globally, is just start of a cycle where you will see the pain going on for many years. These are all warning signals for us. But India stands out very well.
Jain: The way monetary policy and banking regulation in India has worked over the last few years has been a typical first world style of functioning, which unfortunately did not happen in the first world. It’s quite an irony.
About a decade ago, perhaps post GFC, in India, we saw fairly volatile times, with weak balance sheets at an aggregate level with huge NPAs building up and current account crisis as well. Post that we’ve seen – both at the government and at corporate level – steps taken to strengthen the structural fabric of India. I think we are just seeing the benefits of that come through. It’s a good thing that we did not let the crisis go waste.
I believe that the next decade is ours for the taking.

You will remember 2023-24 as the year in which the world went to war without weapons. What’s happening between America and China is very serious. And it has huge implications for us as a country. Let’s take two developments.
ASML, a company headquartered in the Netherlands, is the only company to produce ‘extreme ultraviolet lithography’ technology to produce integrated circuits, which play a key role in the global chip supply chain.
The Dutch government, basis the pressure from US, stated a few months ago that there will be no exports of ASML machines to China. The western world, in a way, is saying we will send China back to the stone age as quickly as possible by making sure this semiconductor manufacturing comes to a halt.
The other dimension is in the Pharma industry. When we speak to the western pharma major companies, in which we invested in, all of them say there are clear orders from the powers that be in America to buy less API from China and buy more API from India. Fly to Baroda, Surat or Vapi in India, you will see a whole new industry coming up, which is ramping up API production.
Even if China’s 10% of API production moves to India, our API industry will be doubled.

Indian stock market valuations
Doshi: It’s not that our premium has gone up. But it’s just that the valuations of the other countries have gone down. So, our valuations look a bit expensive. But India is charting a growth path of its own.
Could you have imagined that the inflation rate in India would be lower than many parts of the West. I couldn’t have dreamt of it 10 years ago. Further, in the last five years, we are enjoying a corporate tax rate of 25.17%, absolutely undisturbed. Now, isn’t that a very strong promise from our government, to provide consistency and stability?
Shah: Indian stock market valuations are undoubtedly not cheap on a one-year basis. But take a five-year view, and suddenly we are the cheapest among the emerging markets.
Today Maharashtra’s GDP is equal to what whole of India’s GDP was in 2005. The combined GDP of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand is what India’s GDP was in 2001. And three states—Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka—combined GDP is where India was in 2000. Can we assume that over the next 15-25 years, these states will produce what India is producing today, if all of us continue to work as hard? I think it is eminently achievable. Now, in which part of the world would you see states becoming as big as the country, with reasonable amount of assurance. People who buy into that story will not find India’s valuation expensive.
Jain: In the calendar year 2022, Nifty 50 gave about a 4%-5% return, which sounds unexciting, of course.
But you should analyse the performance of that 50-stock basket by removing the outliers. And you will find that the difference in returns between the best performing and the worst performing stock is 90%. The best performing stock gave you 50%, the worst performing stock was down 37%.
I think it’s important to be able to identify those companies and take advantage of stock selection in order to create alpha and not overly obsess about aggregate valuations, aggregate growth, etc.
Mukherjea: Do a simple analysis. You look at companies that have a double-digit revenue growth and double-digit ROCE (return on capital employed) in the last 10 years. India has 140 such companies and China has 130. Remember, China’s economy is 4-5 times larger than us and still has fewer companies with the growth I mentioned. And there is no other emerging market in that picture.
The Indian companies filtered would have compounded wealth at 24% over the last 20 years, while the Chinese companies would have compounded at 12%. This is the best that China has to offer .
The decade of manufacturing
Shah: The train which we missed in the 80s, where China became a manufacturer to the world and we became back office to the world, is likely to get reversed, in my opinion. It’s not a 1-3 year journey, it’s probably 10-30 year journey. For China, the manufacturing is about 40% of the GDP. India’s manufacturing should grow from below 25% of the GDP towards first 30%, then 35% and hopefully someday to 40%. That’s the story of manufacturing in India.
Be watchful of:
Mukherjea: We need to push up the ante on corporate governance. We have improved vastly from the days of Satyam and the DHFL debacle etc. But I think given the rate at which our country is going, also the rate at which domestic money is coming into big mutual fund houses, we owe it to the investor community both in India and abroad. To push up the ante on accounting, quality and corporate governance is imperative.
Shah: From the economic point of view, we can’t afford to make a self-goal. In 1947, we were at par with Japan in terms of per capita GDP. In the1960s, we were at par with South Korea. In the 80s, we were at par with China. Today, all these countries are way ahead of us. And that’s because they have done many good things. But we have scored self-goals. The best example of Indian self-goal is when Singur, a state in West Bengal, opposed Tata group’s automobile plant in an essentially backward area. They tried for five years, couldn’t do it and finally moved out. They went to Sanand in Gujarat, which is now growing at a healthy rate. If all of India is going to follow a Singur model, it is time to short India. If all of India is going to follow Sanand model, it’s time to go double long India.
Doshi: India runs one big risk of continuity of reforms. We have had extraordinary leadership at the country level, which need to carry on for another one or two terms, I believe. There are a lot of unfinished reforms in many fields such as agriculture, defence, divestment of PSUs. etc. These are some of these big-ticket items that will actually take India to the next level.
Jain: I like to think that we don’t have control over what is going to be the political climate in India over the medium term and also on how regulations will be shaped. But what we can control is identifying companies that will be able to traverse these differing political scenarios, macro-economic situations, and so on and emerge stronger. So, I would as an investor and as a fund manager, only urge that we need to put effort into identifying companies and winners that can go through variables that we can’t control or which we can’t predict.

It was a cold winter's night in Freeport. My husband and I were seated watching TV, he in his chair and I on the couch. Across the room (the length of our single-story ranch house), there is a lone window looking directly into the living room from the yard. I noticed the figure approaching slowly before subsequently ducking down so that only the crest of his head down to his eyes was visible. He knelt down and began to watch us. And watch and watch and watch.
My heart began to race, and my blood pressure had catapulted so quickly that my head began to throb and pound, and, despite the internal hurricane taking place, I at first pretended not to notice. I kept my eyes fixed on my husband, chatting and laughing as if nothing horrifying was taking place. I kept the intruder in birds eye view for several minutes, hoping he'd just up and leave, taking no interest in our ordinary, sedate state of affairs. Let me also mention that it was six degrees outside.
I continued on with just the same frame of attitude as the time I was robbed at gunpoint years before. I learned that I have a unique ability to remain externally calm despite the fire in my veins and the quaking of my being. Outside, I'm ice, but inside, I'm a tree shaken of all its leaves. Verily, after about ten minutes (I swear that every time I looked at the blank face and noticed it was still there, peeping in a polar vortex, I nearly screamed) I made a decision. Inside, I was absolutely breaking. Each moment that I turned to the TV and then shifted back, my heart skipped several beats.
Finally, with my face turned away, I said to my husband through my teeth, "honey, do NOT look and do NOT react, but there is a man looking at us through the window right now. Don't look!". Despite my urging, his impulse got the better of him. The moment he rose from the chair and turned, the peeper had leaped from view. I told him we needed to call 911. However, before I could even turn on my screen, the knob to the front door began to tremble and shake convulsively.
My husband commanded me to run to our room, a command which he followed as well, which, in such a tumultuous moment, was our only defense - because by then, the intruder was throwing himself against the front door. The jamb and hinged were audibly cracking, all of the items on the glass living room refectory table had begun to tremble and clatter, and the walls all reverberated thunderously.
With all of my strength (my husband had fused disks in his back, so he was totally incapable of assisting), I grasped the bureau by the legs and with all my puny might dragged the son of a bitch across the floor and finally, in one final throe of desperation, pushed it against the door. In the midst of this midnight whirlwind, the front door had been kicked opened and the footsteps, incredibly heavy ones, had tramped down the hallway as if his legs were leaden with 200 pound blocks of ice, though it hadnt sunk in until I, fresh out of breath and flushed in icy hot sweat, had tumbled backwards onto the bed.
"I have a gun!", my husband shouted repeatedly as the intruder began throwing his weight against the door. Assuming he might also be armed, we slunk to the far side of the bed and ducked down. I phoned 911, and they assured me the police were currently in pursuit. It's an incredibly small, derelict steel town in Western Pennsylvania, hollowed out by the terminus of the steel boom. The police arrived imminently, but in between the call, the threats, and the arrival of PD, I noticed something strange. Something that truly chilled me to the bone.
At some point, the intruder halted, and in a shrill, gravelly tone that sounded devilishly feminine, shouted a few simple words, which had been repeated several times - "this isn't yyyyyourrrrr house! This is NOT YOURRRR HOUSE!". He pounded furiously on the door as he shouted (if you could even call it 'shouting') these words with an almost compendious conviction. My husband, who at the time had been battling bronchitis, was gasping for elusive gulps of air with such severity, I was afraid he might faint or, worse, succumb to asphyxiation.
In a flash, the police had arrived. The thousand pound footsteps retreated, but not before a throng of screams rang out from the front doorway. Shots were fired, and voices had gone frenetic. I removed the dresser and ran out. An officer was splayed out on his back half in and half out of the house and was screaming, screaming with every fiber of his soul. All I could see was blood everywhere. Smeared on the walls, even.
"Don't come out here!", shouted an officer as he called for a medic. But the image was burned in. The first-responding officer had been slashed from temple to chin, left to right, and was screaming and rolling chaotically, as if he was being immolated and had desperately taken to putting himself out. That haunting vision has only grown stronger and with greater clarity since. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't see the flashing terror in his eyes and the gaping of his mouth as he cried out, "I'm blind! Gary, I'm fucking blind! I'll never see her again! Diane! Diane!"
We watched out the window of the bedroom as flashlights played upon the black, frozen woods like strobes. Seeing them spread so broadly only made my heart sink, and soon after, an officer came calling.
"Do you have a friend or relative you could stay with tonight?".
This being a most disheartening sign, we went and stayed with our son and daughter - in - law for two nights until we could fortify the house with new doors, triple paned windows and a full alarm system. For weeks, months, even, we walked around on our toes while continuously throwing glances over our shoulders everywhere we went, but what was most disconcerting was that we felt more vulnerable locked behind closed doors.
To this day, the intruder hasn't been found. I looked into previous owners of our house. We had been living there 18 years by then, and the scent on the trail of discovery was nonexistent. I still don't know what about our house "isn't" ours, and I'm not sure I want to know. This occurred in 2020, just as COVID had begun to scorch the earth. One thing I know intuitively, however, is that no matter how much time passes, unless I grow a third eye on the back of my head, I will never be comfortable again.

Hey there,
I'll preface by saying that I'm new to IC scripting. I've been working for hours on trying to get the lights on the Hydroponic Stations (yes, the 2x2 stations) to turn on and off when I want them to.
I've figured out that doing the lines below turns the lights on, but the Var "On" doesn't have an "Off" to go with it in the Var part.
In theory, I'd like to have a loop look something like this:

I'll preface by saying that I'm new to IC scripting. I've been working for hours on trying to get the lights on the Hydroponic Stations (yes, the 2x2 stations) to turn on and off when I want them to.
I've figured out that doing the lines below turns the lights on, but the Var "On" doesn't have an "Off" to go with it in the Var part.

Whether I buy the watch 5 is hinging on this! Mainly interested in cycle tracking and it would be good to know how the temperature feature will be used when it is released i.e. if we will be able to read temperature throughout the day or a reading at a particular time of day or upon waking will be taken? I read this was supposed to be enabled by Q2 of this year - is this calendar year, meaning April? Has anyone been able to use it yet, and which country are you from?

Because I think veteran readers will enjoy it, I will write down my reactions and speculations as I move along.NOTE If I pose questions, I am just sharing the questions I'm thinking in real time at X scene or book. I don't actually wish for commenters to answer them for me unless it is an extreme circumstances (Mixing up characters, misremembering events in previous scenes.)

Tavore Paran
There isn't much to talk about here because we don't get a lot of reactions out of her, even when Ganoes was revealed to be not a traitor, but also dead, making some of Tavore's questionable actions ultimately unnecessary. I like the way she handled her Fist's at her briefing, giving her orders then dismissing them when they might seek to undermine her, but it also worries me because Fiddler criticized his company commander for refusing to hear his sergeants' thoughts. There seemed to be a bit of a mirroring between the Lieutenant and the Adjunct, both nobleborn untested commanders dismissing their veteran subordinates contributions.We do see that she is worried about Felisin, so I'm giving her a tentative pass on the whole execute your mother and send your sister to a prison-camp thing.
The Fists
Gamet seems to be suffering from an inferiority complex and/or is being ill used by Tavore, being treated like a household guard captain still, despite being named a Fist. He has a bit of a good moment when he accuses Blistig of orchestrating the omen, then backtracks when he hears Blistig's response.Blistig is broken from witnessing the end of the Chain of Dogs and his faith in his superiors is probably cracked. He might be a problem.
Tene Baralta - the Red Blades commander, now Fist, seems to be basically the only grounded Fist here, he just wants to get out there and prosecute the war, though in the previous books, Red Blades were acting like raging psychopaths, so he might be a problem too.
FiddleStrings
Fiddler is back and he is coming off better than I remember him being in Deadhouse.He is now basically the Whiskeyjack for a whole new squad of Malazans and he is working hard behind the scenes to make sure the Adjunct Tavore is successful. He has decent moments with everyone, gelling well with all the soldiers.
The best moment was probably when he and Cuttle (an old sapper friend) "drew a line in the sand" and got the recruit-army in formation by blowing up munitions in their faces. Paraphrased from Cuttle "WE ARE GOING TO DO THIS RIGHT OR PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DIE". Lol
OH and its hinted that if Fidder (or any Bridgeburner) makes it back to Raraku, the dead Bridgeburners will play a role in whatever Ganoes Paran is doing now.
The Quest Storylines
This is basically what I'm calling many of the plot elements introduced in this section. They areLostara Yil + Pearl : Quest to find Felisin. Pearl gets credit for digging up the Talon, Lostara is being dragged along for the ride.
Kalam Mekhar : Quest to kill Korbolo Dom and (Reloe)? Cotillion has him do it and he accepts because his wife is mad at him. (He meets the Malazans that escorted Karsa most of the way to Otataral Island, and in the time honored tradition of Malazans, they murdered their officers.)
Apsalar + Crokus/Cutter : Quest to (secure?) the Throne of Shadow, located on a moving island located in the mortal realm. Shadowthrone apparently does not sit it, so it is a fragment that might not be in his possession. I almost thought that ApsalaCrokus was going to fade out of the story, given a happy ending / normal life, but looks like we have more to go. I like the divorce from Crokus to Cutter, in order to protect himself Crokus has crafted a new him to lay all his sins on. All is not well in loveland.
Onrack + Trull : Quest to get the fuck out of this warren (This is the 3rd or 4th time we've had to watch characters try to escape from this shit warren.) Onrack introduces the concept that statues/icons can be inhabited by the powers they represent, then later releases two Hounds of Darkness, who might be the two Paran sent into the Warren of Dark in Gardens. Oh and we finally meet some Tiste Liosan (Light) and they are certain High Elf archetypes (aka dicks).
Karsa Orlong : Quest to do something for the Seven, but really he is probably just looking for a horse and its conveniently in the same direction. Ostensibly Sha'ik's only trustworthy bodyguard, he is leaving her to a pit of snakes. Also we discover that he isn't a Whirlwind follower like he seemed to be in Deadhouse, and he is also getting pretty done with the Seven, if he finds out they are Imass, it might be the last straw.
Book of the Fallen and Death
So I've basically decided at this point that anyone who has died is not really dead until I forget they exist. A LOT of characters have come back from the dead, in full, in spirit, or partially. If a god still wants to use you, you don't die, sometimes you get to become a god, or magic saves you.List of people who died but are not dead off the top of my head - Tattersail, Bellurdan, Nightchill - Duiker - Ganoes Paran - Toc the Younger - Baudin (If he is the Knight of Death, im 99% sure) probably more but its very late for me, and I'm sleepy
The Whirlwind Rebellion
Things are looking very very very very very bad for this rebellion tbh. Every "officer" except MAYBE L'oric is conspiring to kill each other and/or Sha'ik. Bidithal isn't worth an ounce of slimy scum. Felisin Elder doesn't seem to be commanding well. And its home to the weirdest most complicated conspiracy I think I've seen in a book.Korbolo Dom's plan A. Betray Malazan forces in Seven Cities, slay half your legion, assist in the uprising B. Allow High Mage Febryl to assassinate Sha'ik C. Allow Tavore Paran to defeat and kill High Mage Febryl and all Whirlwind forces not loyal to Korbolo D. Kill Tavore Paran and her army E. Destroy the rebellion and everyone who resists and return Seven Cities to the Empire F. Return to the Malazan capital, assassinate the Empress, be Emperor.
wow...just wow. I mean, good for you shooting for the stars but....what?????
Speaking of slime, even Felisin Elder couldn't stand Mallick Rell, the Jhistal Priest of Mael, so he has been sent packing. He'll pop up elsewhere, he has to get his just desserts.
The storyline going on between the two sisters opposing each other is cool and I'm down for it. I wonder what Tavore is going to do when she figures out her opponent is Felisin Elder.
Korbolo Dom does have an idea that starts off as good and then tapers off into bad. He wishes the world would be free of gods and magic so that the common man can take control of his own destiny, but then goes on to fantasize about exterminating all the other races and making his way to live the only way to live.
Shadowthrone + Cotillion
I noticed a recognizable lack of Shadow in Memories of Ice but they are back and sticking their fingers in everything again. Cotillion is straight up asking people to go on quests for him, Lostara Yil, Cutter, Kalam, so he is invested in the outcomes of their storylines. He also implies that Shadowthrone is not the master in the relationship and that they are not as unified as previously perceived in the books. There are also implications that their claim on the Shadow Warren is being contested by someone, though Anomander Rake has proprietary claim on the Throne of Shadow, he is protecting it for some reason.I'm really lost on what their objectives are now, none of these questlines seem to be able to hurt Empress Laseen. Has the Crippled God's recent moves changed their objectives?
Conclusion
Ahhhh favorite parts are probably the tangled and sordid conspiracies happening in the Whirlwind. We had A LOT of characters this section, and there is a bit of a pattern with the books being mostly a slow burn that ramps up to several major conflicts where all the characters kind of eventually mash together, so this one is sure to be a mess for all involved. In Deadhouse we got character pairings in, in this one we get individual quests and two mega collections of characters heading towards a fight.TBH though, this was kind of a weaker section compared to all the other ones, a few of the POV characters from previous books don't seem to have any motivation other than "Cotillion asked me to do him a favor and despite no one liking him or Shadowthrone, we said yes." Maybe I'm just cranky.
Favorite character THIS BOOK so far : I don't know, uh, Cuttle, Karsa Orlong, The sergeant that broke a shovel on Karsa's head, Shard or Cord.

The Celestial Ascendancy of Aelnar struck out into the space, no longer afflicted with the ever-troublesome Astral Terror that had plunged numerous attempts into ruin. It's ships cutting through the darkness, a mix of blue and teal that soon would herald their arrival to the galaxy. At first, they were simply in search of ancient precursor ruins, seeking to uncover their ancient past and potentially uncover lost secrets to continue their research, but soon, a lone vessel appeared as they surveyed a nearby system, and the fate of the galaxy would change forever. The Aelnari had encountered the Tal'Akkur, an anthropoid species who were as xenophobic as they were. The conditions were brutal, Millions of Tal'Akkur were forced to mine and farm on what was once their homeworld. Begging for food and basic needs, they were given none. Any revolt was swiftly and brutally put down. For Aelnar, doing this was neither a necessity, nor a mercy. It was the fate of all who would stand in their way, to be used until for as long as they were to live, and to be discarded as a figment of the past once they had all perished, never to be remembered again. Another empire would share the Tal'Akkur's fate, the Sacrosanct Juvan Order, a xenophilic free haven, structured by a priesthood stalwart in their spirituality, heard rumors of what had happened, and had even been given ample time to prepare since the Aelnari forces were far from the border, but still, they did nothing to stop Aelnar. A devastating push against each of their planets was launched, one by one they fell, an armageddon befalling them as orbital bombardments sought to rain hell upon any and all signs of life, military and civilian alike. Once their last worlds were conquered, High Executioner Lithiel ordered a new "Call of Reflection," harkening back to Aldan under the Precursor Empire, the efforts of the Ascendancy would now be focused internally, as the situation on the homefront grew evermore pressing. A new innovation heralded by leading Aelnari scientists threatens to plunge the universe into an era of murder, genocide, and war. The Ascendancy has shattered the limits of biological evolution, and now had obtained the power of genetic modification, and perhaps one day even may reach a supposed "Biological Ascension." A grim prospect for the future, however that is not to say light has been extinguished in the galaxy. Constant warring and pushes for technological innovation on the homefront have strained the Aelnari Fleets, with their most recent victory against the Noranian Galactic Confederacy showing the effectiveness of hit and run tactics, as well as displaying the sheer stalwart resistance offered by the Norani defenders proving almost too much for the Aelnari forces to handle. Their pursuit of Genetic Perfection has led to the rise of a small subspecies of "Post Star-Elves," who on their homeworld of Kisak Aerie have self-modified themselves to be more resistant to the tundra of their planet, seek to gain greater political autonomy, and indeed they have modified themselves to be able to breed faster, hit harder, and even expand their own lifespans, something many Star Elves in the empire see both as an existential threat, but also a terrifying opportunity to experiment and observe firsthand their possible future. Lastly, the economy of the Ascendancy lies fragile following war after war. While the material demands are being met, the rapid deterioration of the Aelnari economy has led to a shockingly fast collapse in credit reserves, and Aelnar seems to be on the brink of "running its coffers dry" within the next 20 years if nothing is done. The fate of the Ascendancy lies uncertain at this pivotal moment. Forces both internal and external could shatter the supposed unstoppable destiny of the Star Elves, but rapid developments and advances could launch them into a new age of prosperity, spelling the end for the rest of the galaxy. The Celestial Ascendancy of Aelnar 53 years following it's first steps into space The Celestial Supremacy of Aelnar now indirectly holds roughly a quarter of the Galaxy, and more and as more and more empires are discovered, and the empire seems to be reaching it's limits, the future remains in the balance. Massive Leviathans remain across numerous systems, mysterious gateways lie waiting to be explored, a "machine empire" lies on their northern border, and more and more anomalies and unforeseen consequences litter the empire, threatening to tear it apart bit by bit. I am tired of this anger, resentment and sadness that I am feeling towards my ex and friend. For context, my ex got married recently to a friend I really looked up to. Furthermore the said friend never came up and said anything to me about dating my ex. Then boom out of the blue I received news they got married. Although anger has been dissipating over the past few weeks, every now and then however sadness and resentment come over me. And I feel that I won't be able to properly move on if I don't let go of these emotions. My main stumbling block from letting go is that I feel if I do so, then It means that whatever they have done to me was ok and they will not get what they deserve for hurting me. I know that I should not care about what happens to my ex. But at the same time I was hurt deeply and betrayed by people I really cared about and I feel that I was really taken advantage of and I want things to be fair to be honest. "They're in between a rock and a hard place," said Wilmer Stith, bond portfolio manager for Wilmington Trust. "There's a banking crisis and it's really a very tenuous, uncomfortable position for the Fed to be in." During his semi-annual testimony before Congress in early March, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said strong economic data would likely push interest "higher than previously anticipated." Just days later, the 16th-largest bank in the U.S. — Silicon Valley Bank — was taken into receivership by the FDIC, marking the second-largest bank failure in U.S. history. This "third mandate" is what has been put under the most stress during this month's banking crisis. The Fed has said it would use its regulatory tools to deal with financial instability, and the central bank created an emergency lending facility to offer funding to banks to ensure banks could meet all depositor withdrawals. This program essentially backstopped all deposits — both those insured and uninsured — across the U.S. financial system. So far banks have borrowed only about $12 billion from the program — equivalent to a small fraction of the deposits that were pulled out of Silicon Valley Bank before its collapse. Still, banks have borrowed $153 billion in loans through the Fed's traditional lending program, known as the discount window, marking the largest amount since the 2008 financial crisis. And as the Fed uses its tools to shore up confidence in the system, these efforts have been a collaborative effort in Washington, D.C. Speaking before the Senate last week, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said she is monitoring stress in the banking system to make sure problems at Silicon Valley Bank and Signature don't spread to other banks. - Mix packing: Herbivores and carnivores can not protect each other, team up to fight together or travel/quest together.
- KOS: Do not kill for fun or for sport, hunting for food is allowed once your hunger bar reaches around the top of the stomach icon, you must eat until you are completely full before leaving the body. EXCEPT IN THE PVP AREAS.
- Herbivore aggression: Herbivores are peaceful but cautious creatures, if they feel threatened, they will act accordingly. If a herbivore is actively being hunted or stalked, they are permitted to make the first strike, the carnivore does not have to have attacked first. We ask that you act sensibly with this, please do not abuse or we may have to take a more strict approach.
- In game behaviour: Please be respectful to other players, they might not have the same opinions as you, but please keep in game communication respectful and polite.
- PVP ZONES: The savanna grasslands caves and the whistling columns pools are PVP areas, all rules are off the table, herbs can attack herbs, carnivores can attack without being hungry. Enter at your own risk.
- Reporting: Please try to include a clip, a picture or as detailed as description as possible of what happened, an in game report is also very helpful to help us to help you.
- Revenge Killing: When fighting outside of territory and PvP zones and you die in a fight, do not go back to the same POI and re-enter the fight if it is still going. Do not go back with the intent to kill the same person. If you're fighting with a group, you can return to the POI and regroup. However, if the fight you died in is still ongoing, the returning player must wait until that fight ends before they can join in the fighting again.
- Our terroritories are entirely optional to join and function much like guilds in other MMOs. The alphas tend to have strong bonds with their pack and terroritorial disputes can/will happen. Each terroritory can have slight variances in rules while inside of them. Furthermore, terroritories do not take up the whole map (vasts parts of Gondwa remain open) and can change over time.
