2023.03.21 12:18 blackhammer57 Men how do you deal with you are not photogenic or not any sort of good at your photos?

30M i look weird in every pic taken of me, i mean every. And i feel to look cringe at any photo taken at me, literally i go to gallery and select all and delete. So far idk have any photo taken of me to upload in my social media. I look awkward weird and creepy in them and also i feel cringe to look at my pics. I only take selfie's once in a while they look good.
I have been called handsome by both men and women, but i still cant take a pic of me without being cringe loathe at myself, i envy of people who look good at any pic taken of them, i mean they all look so natural in those pics, some pose while the pic and still they look awesome, and i see some blurry pics of night outs of somepeople when theh are drunk in those pics, guess what they still look so photogenic and those vomiting pics still can upload as insta stories. But even a planned pic taken of me i look so creepy.
Im skinny, but ihave see people who are skinny than me pose soo natural to pics, i mean potrait pics, i dont have a single potrait of me taken by a back cam of a phone. Every pic ofme i looks so overthinking, i look like im out of my head, or either my eyes are closed, or my looks away and so weird and its so scary. Its like this when i pose to a pic my whole life problems go through my head and i feel so worthless atm when taken the photo. That makes me so overthinking. How can I change this?

2023.03.21 12:18 spookiethegoat Living with a verbally and emotionally abusive father.

I am 21F and living with my verbally abusive narcissistic alcoholic father for the last 2 years. My mom divorced him after 15 years of trying everything under the Sun (AA, doctors, begging, crying, you name it) and finally made the decision once I turned 18. She moved to another city shortly after and I chose to stay back with my dad since I was still in college and I have 2 dogs who are my entire world and wouldn't be able to take them along if I moved into my own apartment (We live in a spacious independent house with ample space for them, hence the decision) Shitty decision, I know. I graduated and I am working right now. I will be leaving the country for my postgrad degree in around 5 months but living with him is getting increasingly difficult day by day. For context, I live with my dad and grandma (his mom) and she has Alzheimers so she has no idea what's going on half the time and she coddles him too much. We have a live-in house help as well. Stepping into the problem, here are some of the few issues I am facing :
- He goes on alcohol binges for days at a time where he locks himself in his room and drinks days away. Although, this doesn't necessarily directly affect me - it isn't a pretty sight to see when I go back home.
- He is an emotional wreck since my mom found a partner after they divorced. He is highly narcissistic and refuses to acknowledge that my mom left him because he was abusive and plays victim at all times.
- I have a boyfriend and my dad knows about him too. Me and my boyfriend are serious about each other and plan on getting married after I complete my degree abroad. My dad is overly jealous about my boyfriend and badmouths me every chance he gets.
- He gets drunk and messages my mom abusive things such as "your daughter has gone down a wrong path" etc etc (with curse words) and other very demeaning things about me and blames her for it.
- He also gets drunk and verbally abuses me i.e putting me down, demeaning me etc .
- He also calls up random people and once he called up my mom's partner and abused him as well over the phone.
- He verbally abuses me the previous night and the next morning he talks as though nothing happened and it makes me so fucking sick and angry.
My father has never been able to actively take part in my life and always been a terrible, narcissistic person. Now, he is unable to digest the fact that both me and my mom have found someone for ourselves and he is jealous about it. He is going insane and losing control over himself. He randomly picks fights, screams, cries and bothers me whenever i am outside. He calls me up and says very disgusting things asking me where I am and it shoots up my anxiety SO much. I am seeking therapy and I will be getting the fuck out of his house in 6 months but I am not able to cope. I am so tired. I am doing my best trying to take care of my dogs, my grandma and the house at 21 but I am so tired of being put down by my sad excuse for a father. I go to my bf's place whenever I can but I can never be at peace knowing my father will call me up anytime and say horrible things to me, spiking my anxiety and ruining my day. I don't know how he has so much power over me but I fucking hate him. Although it's for a short while, I can't live this way anymore. I can't move out immediately and I want to enjoy the last few months I have here with my boyfriend until I am gone for 2 years.
My mom is being as supportive as she can be but she has her own life now. She always says "you chose to stay back" as though i am destined to pay for the decision I took. I know that's the truth but I just feel so alone. I took the decision to stay for my dogs and my college. He is in a downward spiral and getting worse day by day. I feel so stuck. Please do help me out and give me ways to cope / deal with this. I am so tired.

I'm trying to really dive into curriculum development (of some variation) for math education. It's a niche field, I know. I ended up removing the skills section from my resume due to space (1 page), but wondering if I should add them back. I have 10+ years between teaching and contract work.

2023.03.21 12:17 RedEagle_MGN For those who are struggling to build their indie team, here are some things I've learned

I built a game dev team that's flourishing and I started on INAT but the challenge was immense.
It's really common for people starting a game project to struggle to get the help they feel they need to make the game a reality. They are often stuck between a rock and a hard place -- not having the funds to pay people up front and not having all the skills needed to make a game solo.
I've been there, but more than ever I found my way out, and I thought I would reach back and see if I can help some others. I built a team starting on INAT here that has grown to 35+ daily active developers with every talent needed to make a solid title. We meet every single day in three different time zones and the team dynamic is extremely positive. 75% of people on the team have a degree in their field.
This article was written for inat but I thought I would share here.

1. Don't take no for an answer

There's going to be a lot of people who push you down, and many of them are just trying to avoid this industry being taken over by “idea people.” However, if you have leadership talent and no coding skills, this industry actually needs you and it is possible.

2. It's going to take hard work

If you're not bringing any skills to the table, you probably shouldn't be doing this. However, if you're a natural-born leader and if you're ready to put in hard work every single day and be really humble about the advice you get from other people, you do have the opportunity to make it happen nonetheless.

3. Humility is important

Knowing that you need mentorship is critical to your success. You don't want to make all the mistakes the hard way. There have been people that have been down this road and who can make your life a lot easier, and you can find people like that on gamedev.
This whole industry is surprisingly generous, but nobody likes somebody with a big ego who can't take any advice.

4. Be positive about your worst people

About 80% of the people who join these sorts of Reddits would like to have the feeling of making games without putting in the real tough, long, enduring work. They constantly join new projects because they love the feeling of joining new things, but they don't have what it takes to finish.
You're probably going to start by begging kids that are barely out of high school to help you out. Be grateful for what you get. If you're not bringing money to the table honestly, you shouldn't expect anything.
I was able to slowly raise the average age and capability of my team by cherishing those who I got at the low level. I knew they were going to quit in 3 weeks, and so I wrote standard operating procedure documents which made it so that once they dropped the ball, I could find somebody else to pick it up, and it wouldn't be a big deal.

5. Culture is everything

A few years ago, a comprehensive study was put together to correlate factors with a game's success and failure.
Here is what they found:
https://i.imgur.com/okKs9mo.png
Vision and culture made the most difference out of any factor they studied. It matters more than production methodology, extra work hours, and all other factors.
If you're going to build a team, you need to set the standard. Think about the impact you want to have in the world and focus your team on that. Don't allow serious deviation from your culture, and double down on your culture.
I had great success by focusing very heavily on a people-first culture. It also has zero tolerance for anything less than professional behavior.

6. No sacred cows

People who violate your culture and who are complaining and putting other people down need to be removed before they cause issues. The best way to deal with this is to have such a culture that you don't attract the people in the first place.
However, if you have to deal with these kinds of people, have the procedures already set in place, so it doesn't seem like it's arbitrary or personal.

7. A big idea, a small footprint

Great games are not great because they are 3D or AAA or any of that. However, if you pitch some very small scale game which you know is realistic, you're also going to get a lot less people that are interested.
This forced me to scope up my ideas very significantly, but I regret that mistake. What you must do is think about a massive-impact idea that does not require much effort.
This is extremely difficult.

8. Live events are the lifeblood of your community

Getting together on a regular basis is essential to help people get out of the mentality that somebody else is going to make this game. Meeting on a regular basis and working together live is critical to your success. Do this regularly.
Every Monday, I have a live event where we all come together, and we delegate tasks to everybody on the team. If we didn't have that live event, nobody would actually step up to take those tough leadership roles that we need to elect people to every single week. However, people feel the burden of responsibility when they're together live that somebody's got to do it, and it's probably got to be them.

9. Let birds fly

When people leave your team to join other projects, rather than being sad about it, encourage them and celebrate it, and they'll remember you and they'll help you out in the future. Don't hold on to people, you're not doing them a service that way.

10. Age is everything

I have recruited more than a thousand people to the team in order to focus in on those who make a difference. The correlation with age and success is incredible, if you get people 30+ you are building a proper team.

11. Don’t promise money

You need to get in touch with a lawyer and set up an agreement right away because you don't want to sort this out afterward. That said, I personally lean away from making any promises of compensation because in my experience the game's business is incredibly hits-driven and you never know which one makes it and which one doesn't.
It's tough to motivate people to cross the entire Mount Everest of making a game purely on money. I've decided to avoid it but your best to set up a basic revenue split agreement if you need it.
Make a legal agreement but don’t make sky-high promises.

Conclusion

Get mentorship, work hard, build a positive-focused community and don’t speak about money.

Leaders needed

If, rather than recruiting a team, you would like to play a production role in an already established team, visit: ![http://p1om.com/chosenapplicant](http://p1om.com/chosenapplicant)
Be aware, we don't have traditional managers, rather, we have servant leaders. Expect to lift people up from the bottom.

2023.03.21 12:17 Sapphire-help My beautiful sapphire ring with so many colours!

My beautiful sapphire ring with so many colours!
The photos genuinely do not do it justice! It has so many different tones I'm obsessed with looking at my ring. Been walking into walls with my hand infront of my face haha.
Ring choosing story: In December he did a mini proposal with a beautiful bracelet to say he wanted us to start looking for an engagement ring together (I'd said previously I'd want to choose my own).
2months to find the perfect sapphire, a blue/green/teal type with lots of sparkle!
I almost went with a very flat looking one from an unimpressive behaved jeweler and advice from here helped me feel confident that there was better out there...
And there absolutely was!!! A local jewelers sourced us the most beautiful sapphires and the second I saw this one amongst about 5 on a table I knew!
Then the wait was so funny, I knew the rough timeline of when it would be ready, sometime in march, and so every time I left the house with my partner I was ready. Even putting the bins out. The only day I didn't expect was on his birthday haha. So he still managed to surprise me! Beautiful morning walk in one of our favourite places that was also our first date place.
And now I've found out that this beautiful little stone has so many moods and colours! Totally green from the side, dark green inside shop lights, dark deep blue inside house lights, and bright aqua flashes in sunlight!
Love love love it, if anyone is considering sapphire I say go for it!! Also I found through the choosing process that I'm basically a magpie, I had no idea at the beginning I'd also want a sparkly diamond band haha, but here I am with my fancy pants sparkly ring.

Hi guys,
I am about to purchase my first camera for Photos and Videos. I am thinking of getting a Sony a7.
I was wondering if anyone could suggest some cheap lenses I could get?
I plan to take macro shots of mushrooms and nature, Portraits and landscape photos.
And I plan to play around with making some short videos too.

Polaroid Now+ shots regularly develop with a black line at the bottom
Hi everyone,
I've been using my new Polaroid + for a couple of weeks now and in every pack of film a couple/few have developed with a black horizontal line at the bottom of the frame. The only info I could find online about similar issues seemed to be for sx-70s. Does anyone have any experience with this issue, and does anyone know if there's a fix, or something I should be doing differently.
I've attached photos for reference

2023.03.21 12:16 ButterscotchOk7328 LO will *ONLY* nurse to sleep

For all naps and night sleep LO (4mo) nurses to sleep. When this becomes a problem is in the middle of the night when she’s waking for non-feed reasons. I’ll feed her when she needs to eat but if she’s just waking and needs help connecting her cycle or something she won’t let me rock her back down. If I rock her she’ll scream, if I pat her bum she’ll cry, anything short of taking her out of her crib and nursing her she’ll cry. And for these wake ups she will suckle for a few mins then fall back asleep so its not like she’s hungry. I think it’s disturbing her sleep more because she’s being taken out of the crib and then once she’s asleep in my arms I’m putting her back down which usually wakes her again and we’re back at square one. I don’t want to do CIO sleep training or anything but am willing to try some gentler methods. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? And how long it will take? Thanks in advance

2023.03.21 12:15 Supernoodlesandbeans How do you feel about off lead dogs?

I have a 11 months old mixed breed dog and he’s very reactive. He’s on all sorts of medication at the minute. We’ve been taken him to a field and I do pretty well to avoid off lead dogs. I’m always looking and checking for dogs and people before I go onto the field. However there’s been times where a dog would run up to my dog they don’t get too close but I’m afraid one day they will. I believe that a dog shouldn’t be off the lead It’s always a case off don’t worry my dogs friendly! But I’m scared that one day a dog is going to come up to my dog and he’s going to lash out. He wears a nervous coat so people know not too approach him

2023.03.21 12:15 carebear1099 Queer Fashion/ Consumer Behaviour

Hi guys,
I need to carry out some primary research for my University module in my final year.
The aim is to gain insight into how Queer people wea style/ buy from Vans (off the wall), whether it be clothing, accessories or shoes.
---
The research will be a Wardrobe Audit (ethnography).
The audit will entail you showing me your Vans pieces and talking me through how you usually wea style them, what you wear them with and where & why you wear them etc. You can also share anything with me that you feel is important to you relating to these garments and your queerness.
---
Important info:
- Can be carried out over video call
- We can set a time limit to suit your schedule
- I would need to have photos of the garments discussed, or if you wish to send me pictures of outfits put-together after, that would also be amazing

You'll need to meet the criteria:
  1. Must be Quee identify as LGBTQIA+
  2. Based/ living in the UK
  3. Have purchased Vans products (first-hand only, sadly), from anywhere, at least once in the past 3 months and more than twice in the past year.

If anyone would be interested, please let me know (: I would be super grateful & I'm genuinely very interested and excited to carry out this research.
If you have any questions or want to find out more, just comment here or direct message me. <3!

2023.03.21 12:14 coingabbarupdate Why go for a ChatGPT alternative?

ChatGPT is a cutting-edge model for machine learning used for natural language processing (NLP). Real-time discussion replies that are tailored and context-sensitive can be produced using it.
The key advantage of a ChatGPT substitute is that it has a hugely varied collection of capabilities to accommodate various use cases. Hence, despite being a fantastic tool and the talk of the town, ChatGPT has its drawbacks:
Here is the list of alternatives for ChatGPT.

ChatSonic

ChatSonic comes first in the list as it is among the most recent and comprehensive ChatGPT substitutes that have recently gained popularity. As it was constructed using ChatGPT as a foundation, it gains access to all of its enormous possibilities.
ChatSonic delivers the most latest information about events and issues that are now taking place by using Google's knowledge network to find up-to-date, accurate information.
What assistance does ChatSonic's AI provide, though? By using ChatSonic AI, which is also capable of handling daily tasks, any query may be appropriately addressed. To generate accurate summaries and insights on current events, trends, and conversations, ChatSonic, a free solution for ChatGPT, employs NLP and machine learning.
ChatSonic AI is a cutting-edge and potent GPT3 chatbot that can stay up to date with current events, providing it an advantage in terms of accuracy and dependability.

Jasper Chat by Jasper

Jasper Chat is AI tool that can assist online content creators and advertising agencies in scaling their operations.
In comparison to the other ChatGPT options on this list, it is essentially an AI content-generating robot with a lot more business-oriented functionality. It can also generate commercial copy, caption social media posts, write video scripts, and do a lot more.
Jasper also includes a relatively new chatbot in addition to its content-generating capabilities and other services. This ChatGPT substitute, aptly called Jasper Chat, is built on GPT 3.5 and additional language models and has OpenAI as a partner.
JasperChat, in contrast to ChatGPT, was created for businesses like marketing, advertising, and other similar fields.

Replika

Replika is an advanced AI friend with more than 10 million users. It is significantly more sophisticated than its forerunners and is capable of recognizing visual cues and using them to maintain the flow of the discussion.
It is one of the best ChatGPT alternatives to encourage your creative thinking while you're feeling lonely. It is an AI-powered chatbot that acts more like a buddy than anything else and will instantly reply to every text you send. Replika will listen to your conversations with friends and family about life, love, and other universal subjects.
Replika uses the autoregressive GPT-3 language model, which means it picks up new information from its prior inputs (in this case, your prompts). It can use past information about your life to effectively mold itself to you because its main goal is to have meaningful conversations with people.

Character AI

Character AI does exactly what it says on the tin: it is an artificial intelligence tool that enables users to communicate with synthetic replicas of well-known personalities from movies and TV shows.
One interesting aspect of character AI is creating characters because you can customize them as you go. In addition to choosing the characters' names, I could also give them a welcome, a voice, a description, and even an avatar.
An avatar-generation image generator is integrated into the AI. You can immediately start conversing after finishing and even share it with others.
Character AI has drawbacks. It is more of a novelty tool to have a little fun with because its responses are not as consistently accurate or as valuable as the ChatGPT. There aren't many AI programs that are better if all you want is something to keep you entertained than Character AI.

Perplexity AI

Perplexity AI is a ChatGPT alternative that has been trained on OpenAI's API as well, and as a result, it works well and provides accurate responses. The website has a clean, straightforward design and has been packed simply.
One feature that sets Perplexity apart is the way it cleanly organizes the sources utilized to produce the answers it provides to users, allowing you to assess their legitimacy and credibility.
Perplexity AI doesn't even require an account and is totally free to use. So, you can converse with this ChatGPT-like program and even look at some of its citations.

Conclusion

We sincerely hope that any of these ChatGPT substitutes can match the original AI chatbot in terms of quality. As you can see, the number of AI bots is quite large. Jasper Chat by Jasper and ChatSonic are two solid paid choices to take into consideration if you require more sophisticated features like data export or customizations.
