2023.06.04 16:43 Clean_Inflation7634 Sit or stand?

Wondering if I’m the a-hole here? We went to 6/2 and 6/3 shows in Philly. Obviously the vibe on Friday night was to sit and listen - and I did and it was awesome!
Last night we were at the Linc and sitting 200 level. I sat during the first few songs but when shivers came on I wanted to DANCE! (I was sober for the record). I was with my 7 year old also who wanted to dance. The woman behind me was absolutely SCREAMING at me to sit down and I was shocked! I’ve never been to a pop concert where people sit the entire time.
I did sit down during a few ballads but the people in front of us stood the entire time too so even if I didn’t want to stand, I wouldn’t have been able to see (plus, like I said I wanted to dance)
So, am I the rude one here? To be sitting in a seat the entire time is incredibly boring…

2023.06.04 16:42 dwarfmade_modernism Schrodingers 'Cat'-ponents (a material component hack)

After reading "Spell Components: How They Work and How to Make Them Fun," a recent article from DNDBeyond on spell components, I thought I would finally write up my 'hack' for doling out spell components.
The first two sentences stuck out to me, since I'm sure we've all experienced this as a player or as a DM:
You pick up a component pouch and then you and your DM forget about it entirely. You need diamonds for that revivify spell, but you never roleplayed how you got them when preparing the spell for usage.
There are adventure settings where it is difficult to find certain components due to the location's economics or environment. Wild Beyond the Witchlight is a great example of this: after the characters leave the Witchlight Carnival, there isn't a merchant in Prismeer to upgrade equipment, or buy material components. What happens when the wizard runs out of incense? What happens when the sorcerer levels up, but doesn't have the resources to cast 'Chromitc Orb'?
Solution:
Here's my solution, which you may have gathered from the title: when you're given loot to your players add in a couple d10s or d100s that represents the gold piece value of an undefined, "raw", material spell component. When someone needs material components they can reach into that box and pull something out. As soon as a spell caster declares that they are taking from the box, they subtract the value of the material component from the total amount of raw spell components they own.
An example of using these in play: Two days into a dungeon the wizard runs out of incense to cast 'Find Familiar'. The party has gathered 73gp worth of undefined material components. The wizard reaches into the ornately carved box, says "I'm going to use 10gp for incense", and removes a fist full of incense from the box. The party now has 63gp of undefined material components, and the wizard has a familiar. There is still enough left in the pot for the sorcerer to grab a diamond for 'Chromatic Orb' later on.
My inspiration and rationale:
This model was inspired by the "I know a guy!" variant rule, sometimes used on it's own, sometimes attached to inspiration. Instead of "knowing a guy" and spending a resource (inspiration), the players find raw spell components, and then decide what to shape these into.
This is also to make DM prep a little easier. You don't have to scour your player's character sheets, anticipate their needs, or get annoyed when you ask for their component wish lists and then no one replies but they still try to cast spells that require components with a gp value. Sorry, that was good to get off my chest.
This option also gives players autonomy over choices that are otherwise at the power of the DM. Instead of 'mother-may-I-ing' for specific components players can decide what components they need and when, without removing spell component rules entire.
Now, personally, I don't stop including art objects and jewels in my loot tables. But if I don't have to put expensive diamonds in the table, then I can add other objects that can add to my world building and make sense for the adventure location - in my homebrew, 17th c, rural folk horror setting I can make the art objects relevant to the story, and not worry about how a bunch of rural bullies own golden horns, ruby dust or ivory strips. I also enjoy describing the container the players find the undefined spell components in - a corroded tin box with nails stabbed through it; a black velvet bag that, when you open it glows faintly purple from inside; an old box made of bone that depicts the ascension of the last tyrant king; a book on vegetable propagation with a secret hidey-hole in the centre...
So finally...
There are a lot of good reasons to enforce rules on spell casting, including material component use. It can, for example, close a little of the gap between casters and martials. It's also cool to describe casting a spell using them. I use the "Schrodingers" method as a way to make my and my player's game run a bit smoother.
Ta for reading, and hope your next D&D game goes swimmingly.

2023.06.04 16:38 Dreezoos Why seasons will kill the game for casual players imo

Seasons are a concept that was introduced in d3, two years after its release.
I believe the concept was inspired by path of exile’s leagues and I think it’s not the right path for d4 although I’m sure many people won’t agree with me but d4 has the opportunity to be a game changing game, endgame and pvp wise.
It’ll be super hard to keep a stable pvp community when every 3 months players will have to gear up and grind levels all over again. Casual players as myself won’t be able to keep up with the seasons and grind the leveling part all over and over again just to enjoy the new content instead of going for a new concept of fun endgame. Maybe making it more mmorpg like, I know it’s arpg but with open world and world bosses, raids could be a really cool endgame concept, something like Lost Ark have + pvp and clan wars instead of paying the price of progression for new content.
Just an opinion, but I prefer putting efforts and hours in a character that will stay with me overtime and enjoy all the content the game has to offer.

I visited a big city and realized I literally don't know any of the buildings.
  1. Giant version of Old Town houses? (seasonal residential buildings?)
  2. Just to clear up, these are all Omega houses right? 3.This building in particular looks a lot like residential ones but I've literally never seen this
  3. Odd EA hologram house 5, 6 I literally have no clue
  4. is a castle? (seasonal reward?) 8, 9 no clue as well
I often click into these level 99s and realize I know nothing about this game. Also, there are still a lot of buildings I haven't included in here lmao
Weird theory I just thought of: the level 99 accounts are all bots

2023.06.04 16:34 Sharlin648 How big are military formations in Battletech.

We all know the Lance/Company etc structure, but when you get into bigger formations, the numbers start getting a bit silly!
RCT's are bloody huge formations and I don't think people realise just HOW big they are.
I was chatting with an American friend of mine and he's a serving member of the US Army and a fellow Battletech fan and he's been working on some fanon projects and trying to put numbers to names.
Each Mechanized Infantry Brigade had a Medium 'Mech Battalion supporting the 3 regiments of infantry. Then there was a BattleMech security battalion for Division HQ also a battalion and then the division cavalry screen which was between 2-3 companies of 'Mechs and then other support companies. so call it one reinforced support regiment per division.
And whilst a Mech Inf Brigade did have armoured support, they have about a company of tanks per battalion. And each Battalion only has 12 APCs as they like to shove 28 people into one vehicle which is a horrific idea.
So a BattleMech Division would have 2 'Mech Brigades, 1 infantry, 1 armor, 1 artillery brigades.
So a BattleMech or Infantry Division is much larger then people assume. and a Jump Infantry Division had 2 Ground Aero Wings. (I assume they based this off of the 80's and 90's organization of the 101st Airborne Division (Assault)
In terms of numbers a standard infantry and Mechanized infantry divisions had about 4500 infantry whilst jump infantry divisions had 3402.
With the AFFS, People don't realize until you read the text but the AFFS fields around a regiment of Battle Armor in almost every RTC. or at least 1/3rd of them.
Only 1 regiment of BA is on the books and thats the 1st Royal Guard of the LAAF. but the Jump Infantry Regiments of the AFFS are supposed to all field close to a Battalion each. In the Davion Light Guards thats like 3-4 battalions of BA to include the independent BA Brigades.
AFFS BA Battalions are 4 companies of 64 troopers same size as LAAF for companies.
So 256 troopers per battalion which is similar to an infantry battalion at 258
So a regiment would be around 576 - 768 for the LAAF **]**that depends if they are using 3 company battalions or 4 and No HQ suits.
Sarna is stating a Steiner Battle Armor Regiment is 1,024 Troopers
4 battalions strong of 4 companies each. And this does not include support personnel which would be in the order of around 500 odd ASTechs as well as another 200 or so support personnel.
Sorry for the wall of text but there ya go! A RCT is a big ass formation! 1 Mech Regiment, 3 Vehicle ones, 5 Infantry Regiments, 1 Artillery Battalion and 2 Aerospace wings
They'd have 132 Mechs, 324 Tanks, 3591 infantry, 36 artillery and 40 fighters, and this does not count support personnel. Counting these would probably make the number of personnel be around 20 - 30,000. Indeed, someone did a very good breakdown of a potential manpower total for a RCT here - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cRE4sy0NB2-zn2W5mAKZlsyAqF2hfyPU/view?fbclid=IwAR1C6H44_d5O5nkyICkdhT-GcY9jce5178xVraerb1dq72wuL065wHlR12o
Factoring in real things like logistics personnel, MP's and so on and the numbers are huge, a total of 42,685 personnel assuming its at full strength (Not over strength) the closest equivalent we'd have today would be if you paired up two American Divisions as they're about 20 - 25k troops in total each.
And at its height, the AFFS had a total of 66 RCT's pre Civil war. 27 of these are in turn March Militia's, and the Kestrel Grenadiers were a form of LCT and later upgraded to a full RCT.
REVIVAL saw the depletion of 5 RCT's thanks to the Clans, suffering enough casualties to degrade them to smaller formations.
So you're looking at 1.3 million troops in RCT's alone, and then you add in the logistics and other support personnel that would be part of any force higher than a RCT, and we figured that a RCT would be about the largest total force package that would be deployed, and that the additional support forces are part of the regions Combat Command and March organisations.
To move such a formation en-block you'd need some SERIOUS jumpship and DropShip capacity too as again, its a LOT of people and equipment.
And if you REALLY want to give yourself a headache, try figure out how many 'Mechs/tanks etc and personnel ComStar moved to Tukayyid. ComGuard deployed 144 Regiments to Tukayyid, and although the base 6 they had didn't extend to Infantry or BA until the Jihad, they did base 6 formations with tanks and 'Mechs. And that's just combat equipment, we've no idea of the logistics train such a mass of troops would need.

2023.06.04 16:34 marcop87 Mounjaro or Trulicity?

Hi everyone,
I’m a 275lbs male, 37 years. 6’ 3”. I carry most of my weight around my stomach area and have recently started TRT due to a moderate testosterone level. Please note I’m not diabetic but it is hereditary on my father’s side of the family.
Due to my work schedule and family demands, it’s difficult to exercise during the early afternoon on a daily or consistent basis.
How long did it take some of you all to lose 30 to 40 lbs on Mounjaro? My doctor usually recommends Trulicty but I’ll like to plead to her my preference for Mounjaro if it is more effective in weight loss.
Your experiences would be appreciated.

2023.06.04 16:29 ddwm_9002 I need to tell this story to someone, I don't care who

Except for my parents, I never really have told anyone else this story, so here we are.
About 3 years ago, my parents sat me down. My dad got a job offer in Dubai, and he was going to take it. After 6 months, he had to suddenly go, leaving me and my mother behind. I lived for 6 months with my mother, and I finished elementary school. Then me and my mother went to Dubai. Before we moved, I had a rabbit, but I wasn't allowed to bring him. He lived with a friend of my mother, but he died last summer. Also, two weeks before I moved my grandma passed away, which made moving harder. On the introduction day, I didn't get to meet my homeroom teacher because of a systematic failure. On the first day of school, no one in my new class said anything, not even hello. In the car ride back home, I cried. My dad called the school and the next day the principal did an activity with the class. Still, I was ignored. I was the only kid with a light skin color, and 90% of my class was Indian. During the evenings, I cried myself to sleep. At one point, the class started playing "cricket" with a tennis ball in the classroom, and the tennis would hit my head a suspiciously often. And no one even asked if I was ok. The bullying eventually got so bad I tried to end myself, twice. During the spring break, my mom surprised me by taking me to my home country, I cried out of happiness. After spring break, me and my parents moved to another building. From there, I took the bus to school, and there were some nice people in it. But they started fighting and it didn't last long. My homeroom teacher didn't do a single thing to stop the bullying, after countless emails from my dad. I talked to a counsellor, and she said I could move homerooms next year. My class was full of Indian people, but other classes were mixed. There were some nice people in another class, but I couldn't see them often because of covid 19. I finally finished the year, and for the summer I went to my home country. My birthday is in the summer, and I remember crying because everyone that was there cared about me and loved me. After the summer break, I joined the other class, and it was way better. There were more nice people and I made some friends. But then I heard that I had to move back to my home country, halfway in the year. Right before I left, my friend group started fighting and fell apart. I remember crying when I left from a really good friends house, and I think I was his only friend. All of the above happened in about a 2 year time span. I moved back to my home country, and I joined a new school. In 1,5 years, this was the third time I joined a new class. I was very nervous, and I was scared that it would fail like the first year in Dubai. But it was a nice class. But the school system was very different than in Dubai, and it was hard settling in. My new homeroom teacher is also my math teacher, and I am horrible in math. From the beginning, she had this view that this school level doesn't suit me. Now in the present, I made some good friends. But I am not sure if I will make it to next year in this class. That is a big factor in my life right now, because if I don't make it, I will lose everything. Now, I think about Dubai every day, and think about my first year and and the friends I left behind. I did get a new rabbit, and he is very cute. My 14th birthday is in a few weeks, and I am excited for it. I have never blamed my parents for what happened, but I do blame my class from last year and my homeroom teacher. I don't want to spread hateful thoughts, but I do want people to know that people with a light skin tone can be a victim to racism. I really needed to vent this to someone, I don't care if it are strangers. If you made it this far, thank you for reading.

2023.06.04 16:28 Arperiod_Io Suggestions on Where To Look

I tested with 23AndMe in May 2019. I've consistently, after each of several ancestry updates since then, come back with detectable Middle Eastern and Iberian ancestry, well above the "noise" level.
My West Asian/North African is 1.4%, and my Spanish & Portuguese is 1.8%.
I have no Italian, Greek or Cypriot ancestry, either by DNA or paper trail (I'm aware a lot of Mediterranean folk, especially Greeks, Cypriots and Italians can have WANA ancestry).
This appears to be legit Spanish or Portuguese DNA/ancestry, as Arab invasions of Spain in the Middle Ages resulted in a lot of Spanish folk having WANA admixture. The combined total between the two for me is 3.2%.
I have no Spanish ancestry, according to family stories and paper trail. According to my DNA, I clearly do, and it was no more than 6 or 7 generations ago.
On paper, all of my ancestors, with the exception of 1 line 6 generations ago that is Eastern European, come from the British Isles, Germany and Switzerland. My 23AndMe ancestry composition report largely backs this, as I am 96.6% NW European.
I just can't explain that 3.2% that is Spanish and Middle Eastern.
Does anyone have any advice on where I should look for clues? I'm highly suspicious there was an adoption or NPE at some point.
My entire family is tested on 23AndMe. All 11 of us have that Spanish & Portuguese and WANA ancestry, so it wasn't a fluke.

2023.06.04 16:28 ASTL-Token "Cycles on the Buyer's Side". What will happen to bitcoin next week.

In the first half of the week, we saw bitcoin fall to $26,505. Interest in risky assets disappeared after the release of Chinese statistics. The Chinese yuan fell to new six-month lows, which gave the US dollar additional momentum. China's official PMIs showed a faster-than-expected contraction in manufacturing activity and slower growth in services in May. In parallel, the crypto market was influenced by US statistics and debates on the US national debt ceiling. As a result, the House of Representatives and the US Senate voted in favor of a bill to raise the national debt ceiling, which stopped the sale of US stocks.
Buyers in the BTC/USDt pair again found support at $26,500. After it became known that a default was avoided, investors turned their attention to the May labor market report and the US Federal Reserve meeting. A strong Friday report spurred the growth of the dollar index. The number of jobs in the US economy in May increased by 339 thousand against the forecast of 180 thousand. The April figure was revised to 294 thousand from 253 thousand, as previously announced. The data for March was also revised up to 217,000 from 165,000, bringing the number of jobs for those two months to 93,000 higher than originally reported. Unemployment in the US rose to 3.7% in May compared to 3.4% in the previous month (the forecast was 3.5%). The average hourly wage in May increased by 0.3% compared to the previous month. In annual terms, the indicator rose by 4.3%. The market expected growth by 0.3% and 4.4% respectively. The labor force participation rate remained at 62.6% for the third month in a row. That is, the number of jobs in the US economy in May turned out to be higher than expected, but again, unemployment increased. There is a week left before the meeting of the US Federal Reserve (June 14), and statistics show mixed performance of the US economy.
US stocks closed higher on Friday after a labor market report showed job growth and modest wage growth in May. The data bolstered hopes that the Fed might miss a rate hike at its next meeting. According to CME Group, keeping the rate at 5.25% is 74%. It turns out that the market puts more into the forecast the preservation of the rate in June.
Weekly losses of bitcoin are about 3.5%. Buyer activity remains low. I noticed that bitcoin is being merged in pairs with altcoins. Against this background, ETH and LTC look much better.
The external background remains positive for the first cryptocurrency. The week has not yet closed, so the growth of quotations may continue on Sunday before the opening of markets. The OPEC+ meeting will take place on Sunday. If risky assets do not drop early on Monday morning, then all assets can be expected to continue to grow. The next week does not contain important macro statistics, and the dollar index may continue to correct to the level of 101.60 from the current level of 103.96. At the same time, the US default is delayed for a couple of years.
In general, the past week on the crypto market was ambiguous and caused some anxiety among investors. However, despite a slight decline in bitcoin, the external background remains positive, which may contribute to the continued growth of risky assets. Seasonal cycles are now on the side of the buyers and act as a tailwind for bitcoin and investing. However, investors are advised to take some time to think before making any investment. One of the legitimate forms of investment is, for example, the ASTL investment project, which allows investors to have the opportunity to directly invest fiat and cryptocurrency assets in a stable passive income that obviously exceeds inflationary expectations and is not subject to any sanctions, blocking and confiscation. The ASTL project is a simple and elegant solution for potential investors - an investment in the development of the real sector of a diversified portfolio of cryptocurrencies, with a fairly high APR (up to 14%) with payments in stablecoin (USDT) and the possibility of a full return on investment through the subsequent sale of accrued ASTL tokens on leading crypto exchanges . Details can be found at https://astl.world.

2023.06.04 16:20 jernej_mocnik I love metric

Metric is base 10. That's what makes it genius and at the same time childishly simple. You can convert between units of mass, length, volume, speed,... All in base 10. It's truly genius. You only need to know what the prefix milli, deci, kilo, centi etc mean but it's pretty easy.
-1 liter is 0,1m3. = 1 cubic decimeter. -1m3 (one cubic meter) is 1000 liters. (1 meter is 10 decimeters3 x 10 decimeters3) -1 liter of water at 0°C at sea level pressure (which coincidentally is the temperature and pressure at which water transitions between liquid and solid) is 1kg (kilogram)=1000g (grams)=1.000.000mg (milligrams)
-1m/s = 3,6km/h - you gotta multiply by 3,6 when going up and divide by 3,6 when going down (3600s/1000m)
-1km=1000m=100.000cm

2023.06.04 16:19 Weekly_Context_8701 SOS 9 days out from level 1

I know we are all in a panic but I need some advice: taking Comlex 6/13 (haven't scheduled step yet but think I will push to July since I don't need it to start rotations)
To cut to the chase: I'm looking for a way to boost my score in the next week and also for a practice exam to take in the next day or two to compare to my last COMBANK assessment (trying to track progress..if there has been any)
My school required COMSAE's and got low 400's (highest was 420 at the beginning of dedicated) and then had some ~helpful hints~ to get the score I needed a week after that (some info-sharing from a friend who had taken it before me). Haven't taken another one in several weeks.
I took the COMBANK level 1 assessment 3 a week ago and got a 56.7% with a predicted pass. I do feel that since I went straight through without breaks that I could've done better towards the end than I actually performed.
I took the UWSA 1 on 2 days ago and got a 183. :(
I'm 80% of the way through TrueLearn, and 27% of the way through Uworld getting an average of 55% overall on question sets each day (40-65%). The last week-10 days I ran out of the ethics, professionalism, etc questions on TrueLearn so my average has been stagnant from doing strictly OMM and application of knowledge questions, 3-4 blocks timed per day. I'm still watching sketchy micro and pharm and doing focused reviews on topics that I've been getting wrong with AMBOSS + relevant questions. I have also been trying to keep doing 1 U-world block/day.
I feel pretty confident in OMM content and usually get those right. I get the odd biostats question wrong. Plan to go through high-yield OMM and biostats equations in the couple days before the exam.
I definitely get some dumb pharm questions wrong (ex: which gout drugs for when, etc) but am generally pretty good at toxicities/interactions.
I really can't move my exam back as I couldn't find ANY available dates anywhere near where I will be taking the exam. I am anxious as hell. HELP.
pls no fear-mongering, I'm already feeling like fkn idiot and just trying my best out here!!!
