2023.03.19 17:10 giubaloo Recommendations for large wood desktop
I’ll be upgrading my desk soon and am looking for a large wooden desktop (laminate or solid wood) roughly 72” x 30”. The
Karlby countertop from IKEA is an extremely common choice but if it’s realistic I’d be very curious to look into local wood suppliers that would potentially be able to come up with something similar. As long as it’s cut to size I’d be able to sand and finish it, though depending on the price I’d potentially consider paying to have that done too.
If anyone has any tips or suggestions, locally or otherwise, for a nice desktop I’d appreciate it!

2023.03.17 07:38 dreamchains IKEA Karlby desk alternative that DOESN'T require sanding/staining/finishing/etc.?
Not trying to sound picky but just looking for a more budget friendly alternative to the classic reddit
Karlby desk. I've found countless reddit posts suggesting butcher blocks, but they all require some sort of prep work that I don't have the tools or experience for.
I'm just looking for something minimal with a similar rustic wood color, at least 5, preferably 6' wide and 25" deep. Live edges are cool too but probably too expensive. I'd like to stay under $200 if possible.
And yes I'm gonna put them on alex drawers lol

2023.03.15 22:35 thisisaidss Adding Adils legs to countertop
Now I'm planning on adding 2 adils legs to one side of my counter top . I was able to buy a solid wood countertop for £40 at a local store to substitute a expensive Karlby desktop . Now I'm just wondering how I would screw the legs to the countertop . Can I screw them directly into the desk with a electric screwdriver or should I drill holes first then screw ?

2023.03.08 17:19 Sharp_Anxiety5085 KARLBY Countertop, walnut/veener as a WFH desk. Seal or not?
Hi All! Planning to use KARLBY Countertop, walnut/veneer as a table top for my WFH/Personal computer set up. I was wondering if I have to do any additional sealing or anything like that after I purchase it. If so, what products should I use?
Don't do much eating at my desk but usually have a drink or two on my desk to sip on during my work/study time. I spend a lot of time at my desk and have have a lot of things on it like, speakers, knick knacks etc but again, I do spend a lot of time at my desk so it is being used frequently. Any advice would be helpful!
Linking the exact counter top in case its helpful

2023.03.06 17:10 OrganizationLarge256 Any countertop reccomendations?
I'm looking into getting a standing desk after I move in about a month or so. I'm thinking about getting the Fully desk legs (I don't love the look of their bamboo tops) and slapping a countertop on it like the Karlby from ikea. I've been looking for options roughly around 72 inches and was curious what other people have used in the past and what worked well for them.

2023.02.25 10:23 drewschuller Preparing for First Desk / PC Setup Questions
Hey everyone!
So I am in the market to get my own components and make my own desk setup and I had a few questions.
My idea was to have this: IkeaKarlby ( 74 x 1 1/2) Two Ikea Alex Drawers
I know this is what is the most popular and ideal but I thought I would list it just in case anyone needs to know.
I have heard a lot of people and seen that they use desk risers to help raise the countertop from not being exactly on the drawer and while I like this idea, I am not sure if I want to drill holes into my drawers. Also, I have heard that people suggest a middle leg in between the drawers to help support the countertop bug again, I am not sure if I want to drill exactly into the countertop to help stabilize it.
So my questions are:
- What is a good alternative for a desk riser that won’t involve me drilling into anything, but still able to give me some space between the two components?
- What is a good alternative for a table leg to put in the middle underneath the countertop to help support it so it doesn’t bend inwards over time and does not involve me drilling into anything?
I hope this makes sense and I will take an recommendations. Thank you so much!

2023.02.20 03:06 kilawnaa Turns out I only ordered one Alex drawer, anyone know of any table legs that would match nicely to Karlby top?
Hello,
So, it turns out because I’m special, I only ordered one black Alex drawer for my walnut Karlby countertop. I am so irritated. I swear I ordered two but I checked my online order and it was only one.
Does anyone know of any good Amazon legs I can buy to match my top? I paid $120 just for shipping for my top and drawer. I ain’t payin’ it again just for another drawer. And Amazon will be way faster.
Any help is thanked. Cheers.

2023.02.19 20:22 Willy_DuWitt IKEA particleboard countertop to floating shelf
I recently made a window seat using
IKEA Karlby countertops, and have an 8ft X 10in piece left.
I'd like to make two 4ft wide floating shelves with it, but can't find any information on whether drilling it out for brackets
like these would work.
The material itself seems pretty sturdy - see
here for a cross section.

2023.02.12 00:52 redj01 Need advices to ascend.
Hello everyone, been looking for a few days to go ahead and buy an ultrawide monitor but I'm a refreshing rate guy more than a resolution guy and I'm not sure if I should let go my :
1st monitor : LG Ultragear 32GQ850-B (260Hz with OC) 2nd monitor : Acer Predator XB271HU (165hz with OC)
I'm thinking 49'' so I could have a gaming screen and a functionality screen on the same monitor which would look (I think) cleanesharper than having multiple monitors.
I'm actually thinking about getting
1.Dell Alienware AW3423DW cause almost every reviews of it praise the thing but it's "only" 34'' (but I like the 175Hz)
2.LG Ultragear 45GR95QE-B.AUS because it's a nice 45'' and offers 240Hz (I know at over 2K it's harder to achieve higher FPS)
3.Asus XG49V cause it's a 49'' but it "only" offers 144Hz and the one I'm looking at is used so I could save a little bit (not that money is an issue but saving is nice)
4.AOC AG493UCX2 cause it's a 49" and offers a nice 165Hz. Don't know that brand pretty well tho.
Space is not a problem as I'm using an IKEA Karlby 98" countertop, money is not a problem (but let's keep it realistic please) and I would really like to use a monitor arm since I only have like 25" of depth. I browsed this subreddit to make my mind but almost every post have the same amount of pros and cons.
Let me know what I should go for. Mostly playing games (Warzone, Cyberpunk etc.) but I watch movies and streams too.
My PC is high end and I have a 4090.
