2023.03.25 01:32 amipal24 6th ed battle report: 1550pts - Dwarfs & Empire vs. Chaos & Skaven
 | I used to play 4th edition WFB a lot with friends back in the 90s. Over the last couple of years, we've scoured our lofts and cupboards, and rediscovered miniatures and armies which have long lay dormant... And it all came arrived at this - our first game of WFB together in over twenty years. submitted by amipal24 to WarhammerFantasy [link] [comments] 1550pts total per side - Dwarfs (1000pts), Empire (550pts), Chaos Warriors (735pts), Skaven (815pts). Following the usual limits on units/heroes, the only additional rule is that all should be painted (alas, ill-health meant the Chaos Knights weren't). And so, to war! Deployment With the battlefield very similar on both table edges, picking a side was moot. Rolling lower than the forces of evil, the Dwarfs and Empire deployed first. The Empire's Fire Mage, general of that army, got Fiery Blast as his sole spell. Allied deployment, Rangers not yet placed (they'll go between Slayers and Warriors). Chaos and Skaven kept their deployment quite tight also. The Chaos Sorcerer received Creeping Death, Pelt of Midnight, and Shades of Death from the Lore of Shadow. Chaotic forces deploy. Turn One - Allies First turn goes to the allies. The Empire troops moved forward slightly, and the Dwarf Warriors wheeled around to protect the flank of the Rangers. Shooting started with both artillery pieces landing well short of their targets. In fact, the Empire mortar scattered back and took out three people of the Free Company, and almost killed the Fire Mage! The Dwarf cannon was equally unlucky. Rolling low on the initial artillery die, the Rune of Forging was used to reroll... and the cannon misfired. Luckily the roll was high, and it escaped unharmed. Add to this a only one Skaven falling to the crossbows of the Rangers, and it was a very poor shooting phase all round. The Fire Mage tried to cast Fiery Blast, but was instantly rebuffed. Uh oh. Turn One - Chaotic With a call to advance, Chaos and Skaven forces began their long advance across the battlefield. Whilst most regiments moved down the middle, the Chaos Warriors took the opportunity to march around the cottage dominating the centre of the left-side of the table. Horns blare, drums beat... and the march begins. A different blue; a scarier blue. For shooting, the Skaven Jezzails fired from the hill and managed to bring down a single Dwarf Slayer. Onto magic. Creeping Death killed an Ironbreaker. Pelt of Midnight was then cast on the Stormvermin but the Dwarf Runesmith dispelled it. Turn 2 - Allies With the evil lines becoming clear, the Allies started to reorganise their lines to meet their foe. The Rangers reformed their lines to bring more crossbows to bear, with the Warriors and Slayers still guarding their flanks. And the Empire regiments also moved around a bit. Nothing great, but still trying to blunt the charges of the forces of Chaos. Hold steady, lads! Empire pride. The shooting phase was much more successful. The mortar landed a shot bang in the middle of the twenty-four-strong unit of Clan Rats, splattering eight of them! Similarly, the Dwarf crew of the cannon had also studied their range charts a bit more, and blasted a line of seven Stormvermin to mush. Instant-rat-jam. With the Rangers having reformed, we moved onto the Magic phase where once again, the Fire Mage was unable to get through the combined dispells of Chaos and Skaven. Turn Two - Chaotic Once more, the units of darkness moved forwards, though still placed themselves far from the Empire/Dwarf line. This time, the Ratling Guns were left in-place, no doubt to rain terrible fire into the allied ranks. Lining up for a ruck. However, come the shooting phase, neither did a thing - either missing the Free Company or failing to penetrate the Gromril armour of the Ironbreakers. Similar news from the Jezzails. Magic was also a torid affair, with the Chaos Sorcerer unable to do much in the face of strong dispells. Turn Three - Allies With a yell of courage, the Empire Pikemen grabbed the opportunity to wrong-foot the Chaos Warriors and charged them. Elsewhere along the line, the rest of the force awaited the charges they knew would be coming next turn. On yer pike! And now came another solid round of shooting. The Empire's Mortar opened fire, and lobbed a exploding shell towards the Skaven. It scatters, clipping (but not wounding) the Chaos Knights, and knocking over a few more Clanrats. Kaboom! The Dwarf Cannon blasts the Stormvermin again, smooshing them enough to force them to run. And making their Ratling team leg it too. This was followed by the Rangers loosing (not losing...) their crossbow bolts into the Plaguemonks - nine shots hitting out of ten. Many fell, but they remained in play. Take aim! Nothing happened with magic again, and the close combat between the Pikemen and Chaos Warriors was a stalemate. Turn Three - Chaotic The Pikemen charge was a mere prelude to this turn... where the Chaos Knights charged into the Empire Spearmen, the Skaven Clanrats skittered into the Ironbreakers, and the Plaguemonks poured forth their terrible miasma upon the Dwarf Warriors. Call the cavalry! Teeth on Gromril Medicate **this** Shooting was once again poor from the rats, as was magic. The Chaos Knights did some damage to the Spearmen, but not enough to break them. A similar story with their foot-bound brethren and the Pikemen. Over on the Dwarf's side of the battlefield, victories went to the bearded. The Ironbreakers smashed the Clanrats, forcing them to break. The Dwarfs tried to pursue, but didn't catch them. They did, however, arrive in very close proximity to the Chaos Sorcerer, who chose to flee. The Dwarf Warriors also won their combat against the Plaguemonks, who subsequently lost their frenzy. Turn Four - Allied Last turn, and with the Dwarf Warriors already taking the Plaguemonks head-on, the Rangers charged into the ratmen's flank. The Slayers marched forward, with the intend to get behind the Plaguemonks to prevent them from running anywhere; whilst the Ironbreakers continued marching forward. The Empire units were all fully-committed, save the Fire Mage. Come the shooting phase, the Mortar lobbed a round towards the Jezzails on the hill, but was well-short. The Dwarf Cannon spied the Chaos Sorcerer lurking near the cottage... and landed a round just passed him, though blowing the roof of said dwelling. Who needs a roof anyway? Another useless magic phase is followed by more close combat. Both the Pikemen and Spearmen lose their fights, as do the Plaguemonks, but all stay put. Turn Four - Chaotic With nothing to charge with, the movement phase quickly gives way to the shooting phase - again, another terrible result from the Skaven ranged weaponry. Magic results in nothing either, but close combat proves decisive for the Chaos Warriors, who finally force the Pikemen to flee. Run away!!! End game A substantial win for the forces of "good"! The Chaos-union lost 606pts, resulting in a VP win for the Empire/Dwarf alliance of 436VPs. With most of the Dwarf force still intact, it would have been interesting to see where another two turns may have led... but it was a great re-introduction to the WFB world and the wonderful game that it is. Now to plan for future games, and get more units painted! |

As the headline states Busch Gardens removed Wild Surge from the park map and the closures page. A few outlets today reported the ride is indeed going to be retired. The going rumor is that Busch wants to put an Invadr style wooden coaster in Jungala which I think would be a perfect fit. When i look for horror, I'm not necessarily looking for the most scary or gory experience, but the most fascinating, and in horror, nothing fascinates more than supernatural concepts that works on spirits, ghosts, human nature, or the mysteries of the soul. And also, curiously, "love".
Silent Hill 2 and Fatal frame series are the best examples i can come with up now. The horror goes beyond the creepy stuff happening, it evolves around something more 'spiritual' about the characters, even if a more simple way. Like Silent hill 2 be about James and his wife and the good and twisted stuff that happened between them. Fatal frame 2 playing on the relationship between twins, especially with that bittersweet ending, or Fatal frame 3 playing on the loss of someone. I love that melancholic/bittersweet flavor within the horror. But it seems really difficult to find something on that style.
And of course, stories that are just tragic without it playing any deeper role in the story, it's not of my interest

Wubbox considered his friend's words, and after a moment, he smiled. "You're right," he said. "I might not be cut out for the road, but I won't let that stop me from trying new things and seeing what's out there. Thanks, guys."
The next morning, they hit the road once more, Wubbox feeling a newfound sense of determination. They drove through mountains and deserts, over bridges and through tunnels. They visited strange and wonderful places they'd never seen before, and through it all, Wubbox found himself feeling more and more at home in the world beyond his island.
When they finally arrived back at their starting point, exhausted but exhilarated, Wubbox knew that he'd grown and changed in ways he'd never have thought possible. And he knew that he had his friends to thank for showing him the way.

I live in Steamboat Springs, a small ski town in NW CO and want to get back into the hobby. Had reef tanks for 10 years while i lived in florida but since the closest saltwater fish store is 4 hours from me in Denver I have yet to get back into the hobby. Obviously id be making my own salt water out here but my biggest concern is ordering live stock online as I've never done that before. Any tips or recommendations on having a reef tank in a small rural town would be appreciated. Also if you have any recs on a setup id love that too. I'm torn between just going all out on a red sea nano max 20gal or if i want to make my own setup piece by piece. Thanks!

Trump could hypothetically win more EV than DeSantis.
It is important to look back at the states which gave Trump victory in 2016 which were the rust belt states of MI, WI and PA. His victory in these states was down to his populist rhetoric which resonated with blue collar workers. This included bringing back industrial jobs loss due to globalisation. It was also because he was an outsider with no prior political experience. He lost these states albeit narrowly in 2020 which could suggest that Trump still has some clout in these states. If the economy continues to be sluggish in 2024, Trump could have a chance of retaking these states.
Compared this to DeSantis who has mostly focused on culture war issues in Florida. Whilst this could appeal to voters in safe Republican states it may not broadly appeal to blue collar workers in the rust belt. Their main priority is likely to be economy and jobs. Furthermore, DeSantis has been in politics for a significant amount of time having served in Congress.
On the other hand, DeSantis could be more popular in states such as VA, AZ, GA, NV and CO. There is likely to be a trade off in which states the GOP win in 2024 depending on their nominee.
