Insulin signaling and lipid metabolism are disrupted by long-term consumption of a high-fat diet (HFD). This disruption can lead to insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and subsequently renal dysfunction as a consequence of the inactivation of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPARα) or AMPK/PPARα pathways.
We investigated the impact of metformin on the prevention of renal dysfunction through the modulation of AMPK-regulated PPARα-dependent pathways in insulin-resistant rats induced by a HFD. Male Wistar rats were fed a HFD for 16 weeks to induce insulin resistance.
After insulin resistance had been confirmed, metformin (30 mg/kg) or gemfibrozil (50 mg/kg) was given orally for 8 weeks. Evidence of insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, lipid accumulation and kidney injury were observed in HF rats. Impairment of lipid oxidation, energy metabolism and renal organic anion transporter 3 (Oat3) expression and function were demonstrated in HF rats.
Renal inflammatory markers and renal fibrosis expression induced by a HFD were more effectively reduced after metformin treatment than after gemfibrozil treatment. Interestingly, renal Oat3 function and expression and kidney injury were improved following metformin and gemfibrozil treatment.
Interestingly, metformin demonstrated greater efficacy than gemfibrozil in attenuating renal lipotoxicity through the AMPK-regulated SREBP1/FAS signaling pathway.

I am new to this sub Reddit, and RecRoom in general. I didn’t see this posted before but I’m curious if there are any adults only (or idk 14+ rooms?) I enjoy playing with everybody, but sometimes get the impression that the kiddos aren’t super stoked to be playing with me lol. (I guess I’m old now.) (dang my kid was right!)

Basically the Title
Having read the recent incident where an IndiGo flight between Delhi and Guwahati had an incident where a drunk passenger vomitted and defecated inside the flight and a recalling a more nauseating incident where a drunk man urinated on an elderly woman in Air India flight in January, it got me thinking why can't we simply have Breathalyzer Tests to detect alcohol presence in the system before boarding flights ? Anyone who is inebriated should not be allowed to board the flight! As simple as that.
The process would be simple, anyone of the age 18 & above simple has to breath out into the device at the time of security check. It hardly takes 20 seconds I believe and these tests are done for checking drunk driving cases so why not make it a standard procedure prior to boarding flights?
Imagine the inconvenience that can be avoided to the other passengers and crew members, more so feel bad for the crew as they have to do the cleaning and maintain a decorum for a completely unwarranted situation

Recently, I've been really interested in zombie apocalypses. But most zombie media always follows almost the same world. Like The Walking Dead. Dystopian modern day world where everyone is struggling with finding ammo. So I was thinking, what if we take that RP and put it in another time? Medieval zombie apocalypse. Then, I kept toying with the idea and thought: What about a fantasy world? With all kinds of different races, magic, enchanted weapons. Not only do we have to worry about decaying humans coming after us, now there are undead dragons, chimeras, griffins, etc.
I'd love to wordbuild with you! I have characters of all genders and (fantastical) races that I'd love to throw into a post-apocalyptic world. Ranging anywhere from magic-users to faeries to orcs. As for the character dynamic, it can really be anything. We could go with lovers, parent/child (Like Joel and Ellie or Lee and Clem), family, found family, etc.! I'm open to really anything, we can just talk about it in DMs!

(The Gang leaves. Joey goes back into his apartment and calmly opens up a cabinet underneath the kitchen counter. He puts his fingers on the upper part of the cabinet, feeling for something. Finding what he’s looking for, Joey grabs the object, revealing a silver, Smith & Wesson revolver that had been taped up in the cabinet. He looks at the gun with an almost awed expression plastered on his face. He cocks the weapon and hides it in his jacket pocket and goes back to the door.)
ROSS: (exasperated, through the door) Would you hurry up already, Joe. The reservations at 6.
JOEY: Okay, I'm ready. Let's go.
(The friends all walk out of Joey's apartment and head towards a nearby restaurant. As they walk, Joey's smile turns into a menacing grin.)
(The episode cuts to the restaurant, where the friends are enjoying their meal. Suddenly, Joey stands up and pulls out the revolver.)
JOEY: (to the camera) This is it, the moment I've been waiting for. (He turns to the group) I'm sorry, guys, but I have to do this.
(JOEY begins to shoot the group, one by one, as they scream and try to fight back. The episode ends with Joey standing over their bodies, covered in blood, with a satisfied smile on his face.)
(The episode cuts to later that night, with Joey sitting in his apartment, still covered in blood. He picks up a phone and dials a number.)
JOEY: (to the camera) This is it, my next big move. I'm going to make sure the whole world knows my name. (He speaks into the phone) Hello, this is Joey Tribianni. I just committed a mass murder and I want to take responsibility for it. (He hangs up the phone and smiles) This is just the beginning.

I am honestly getting tired of hearing about the shooting in Nashville. Events like that are now so much a part of normal life that tbh: hearing about them over and over and over is starting to be tiresome. So now based on that note and observation I ask this question: based on how we as a society responded to past events that occurred when we went after certain people and demographics as a way of quote on quote "Revenge", do you think that we as a society will go after transgender individuals in a retaliatory way to avenge the 6 deaths at the school or are we just gonna see more political BS and hatred towards one another until another even more catastrophic occurs? I personally am predicting random public attacks, vandalism of private property and so and so forth. What are your thoughts? Side note: please be respectful.

my (24F) boyfriend (30M) has a severe injury and I have been thinking about leaving him...
my boyfriend has a chronic disc injury which prevents him from doing almost anything at this point but at the beginning of our relationship, he was able to work, go out, and we could have sex. we get along really well, and we are in tune with almost everything.
but 2 months into the relationship, he was reinjured and it's progressively gotten worse to the point I am his full time carer. I cook, clean, I feed him when he's particularly weak, I support him. don't get me wrong I absolutely love him and care for him so I am happy to help him I'm his time of need but he was told recently that rehab will take around 1.5-2 years. I don't know if I can do this for another 2 yrs. he has become increasingly less patient and angers quickly when he struggles with pain or an incident happens which sets his back pain off. i take the comments he makes to heart (which are usually an insult or two amd him questioning the way I've cared for him).
he runs his business on the side for our income because I can't work due to having to help him dress and undress, go to the toilet etc. throughout the day. we had to move in with his parents in another state to help with the financial burden. he has reassured me that he will make money to support us (since for the last 1.5 yrs it's mainly been me working full time).
for the last month or so I've beginning to think about what life would be life if I was single and could have freedom in what I do. I've thought about moving in with my brothers who I haven't seen in over 6 months and going out with friends. I have even questioned if I even want to get married at all just so I could have complete freedom. i feel extremely guilty just at the thought of it, because I love him and I do want to help him get better. but I am so worn out, I am so tired and have my own health issues I haven't been able to address. I don't know what I would regret more, not living life how I want or leaving the person I care about?

One of the things I absolutely love about this show is the way they portray adolescent female bonds, in a real and complex way I've rarely seen in television. Jackie and Shauna's relationship is a painfully accurate look at young female codependency. I believe their arc throughout Season 1 is very informative to where Shauna is headed, and I think it may be foreshadowing some upcoming conflict between Shauna and Lottie. Let me explain a bit:
What is codependency?
Codependency is a relationship imbalance, often times where those in the relationship are getting their needs met through each other, becoming dependent on one another. "Somewhere along the line, we learned to doubt our perception, discount our feelings, and overlook our needs. We looked to others to tell us what to think, feel, and behave. Other people supplied us with information about who we were and should be. It became more important to be compliant or avoidant rather than to be authentic, and we adopted rigid beliefs about what “should be.” We believed that if we could just “get it right,” things would be okay. When we “got it wrong,” our sense of security and self-worth evaporated." Codependency can be found in all types of relationships- familial, romantic, friendship, etc. However a common occurrence in codependency is to project everything on to the other person- which is why it's no surprise that Shauna and Jackie are often read through a homoerotic lens.
What roles do Jackie and Shauna play?
Jackie: Jackie seeks control. She's a perfectionist. Jackie has carefully planned out everything in her life: being the soccer captain, having the perfect boyfriend, her college life with her best friend, etc. etc. Shauna is perfect for this as she allows Jackie to have another person to control and dictate- she tells her what sports to play, what to wear, who she should date. She does a lot of this in a nurturing way as well- like pulling Shauna off the plan when she was trying to help Van or bringing Valium because she knows Shauna needs it to relax on planes. We can assume she models a lot of this from her own parents- her mother comes across as high strung and controlling as well. It's the reason why Shauna rejects her offer to pay for Callie's school immediately. Controlling codependents tend to "believe people are incapable of taking care of themselves, attempt to convince others what to think, do, or feel, and have to feel needed in order to have a relationship with others"
Shauna: Shauna most closely aligns with compliance patterns. These types of codependents often "put aside their own interests in order to do what others want, compromise their own values and integrity to avoid rejection or anger, are afraid to express their beliefs, opinions, and feelings when they differ from those of others, accept sexual attention when they want love, and make decisions without regard to the consequences". Shauna for a long time has become comfortable in the dynamic with Jackie and allows Jackie to control her life- to the point where she will set aside her own thoughts and desires.
As Shauna has began transitioning out of high school, it's clear her resentments against Jackie have been building and building. This had lead to her passive aggressive nature and acting out in indirect ways such as sleeping with Jeff. Their fight and falling out was inevitable, but it unfortunately is happening in the worst circumstances.
Shauna's search for PoweIndependence....and the potential threat of Lottie
At the beginning of Season 2, Shauna is understandably still having a difficult time moving on from this relationship. Her grief and guilt is keeping her stuck in this codependent relationship with Jackie, even as she's gone - hence manifesting her ghost. However something we're learning more and more is that the survivors eventually find a sense of freedom, autonomy, and power in the wilderness that they never had before and have yet to replicate since. My guess is that Lottie is going to play an oppositional role to Shauna in the coming episodes, due to Lottie's cult-like leadership style that replicates the same codependency she's been accustomed to. While this could possibly lead to Shauna being the right-hand man to Lottie, I think it will most likely lead to Shauna and Lottie becoming conflicting leaders. As Shauna starts establishing her own independence, I believe the last thing she'll want is to replicate the same relationship she grew to resent. We can also see in the present timeline that Shauna is beginning to find her personal power once again- and I wonder how that will conflict with the introduction of Lottie's cult.
TL;DR: Jackie and Shauna were in a codependent relationship with Jackie holding the control and Shauna losing her sense of self identity. Now with Jackie gone, she is able to start establishing her own sense of identity and autonomy but under the circumstances of the wilderness. Lottie is very likely a "threat" to this autonomy as her cult-like leadership replicates the same necessary ingredients for a codependent relationship. I think Shauna will either align herself closely with Lottie- or more likely be an oppositional leader to her.

My partner and I are considering getting married. He is the breadwinner of the house and I told him we should get a prenup so he can feel comfortable with everything since he has several businesses. We live in CA, and found out that even if we had a prenup I could still get a part if not half of his earning and alimony. I personally don't want ANY of it. I think he worked his ass off for the business he has now. I wouldn't want someone to take what I worked for so I have no intention to do that to him. Alimony, even more unbelievable here in CA. I want none of it. Is there any way we can get married and each keep whats ours? No alimony, no nothing? No kids, no properties together. Any help is appreciated.

Not just the military base but the map and the sign when you come into Los Santos from the road that's near del perrio pier that leads to the military base look closely at the sign it has a detail that reveals hidden things mainly sends you into a rabbit hole 🕳 they made a lot of detail but a few are mainly at the military base 1st the bunker with a red light going off, 2nd the sparks on the side of the hangers in the base, 3rd 5 star generals in the base ? 5 star generals rarely visit lower tier or moderate tier bases and it would be hard to see one there if it was, the generals there cause there's something there
I looked deep into the rabbit hole and all I can say without much proof is that it all connects or starts/ends at the military base

im starting a WFH position however, my roommate also WFH most of the time. we have our set up in our rooms but the walls are so thin you can hear. she does presentations and can get loud. im on the phone all day and can also get loud. anyone know of a good headset that actually cancels background noise?? or is this unheard of ?

So these are all just my opinions of some major characters and theories based on what I’ve observed after watching episodes 1-5 twice through and after reading some threads on here.

1. Simon- the popular opinion seems to be that Simon had something to do with it (i.e. he’s the only one that can see her, he looked scared/startled the first time he sees her, etc.) I disagree. I think that Simon is the only one that can see her because he truly loved her and it was an “unconditional love” type relationship. he basically tells mrs. fields that they’ve known each other longer than anyone else in their lives, they’ve been lifelong friends. People can argue “what about Nicole her other best friend or her mom? Why can’t they see her?” I feel like because of her mother’s alcoholism that relationship has been tainted, sure her mom loves her but because of her disease she hasn’t always been able to provide that unconditional love. Nicole….I’ll get into her in a second. Also, people keep bringing up the fact that he was startled when he first realizes he can see her. I don’t think this is as strange as people keep making it out to be. If I’m in a classroom looking out the window at a group of people looking for my best friend who’s missing(who’s never “gone silent” on me before so i know something’s wrong) and then all the sudden i see my friend seemingly materialize out of thin air i’m gonna be a little shocked too. Also (and maybe just because I believe in stuff like ghosts) i would kind of assume something’s not right and would probably infer she’s appearing as a ghost because otherwise if she was flesh and blood i feel like she would have alerted someone instead of heading straight to the classroom happening to stumble upon her best friend.

2.Xavier- i feel like Xavier is the obvious “go to” suspect for the first few episodes. By the end of episode 5 however, i don’t think he has anything to do with her death other than the cheating text like he said. The comment to Claire about “I’m worried about them finding her body” is troubling but I’m half convinced, that like another user suggested he just meant then he would be forced to come to the terms that something did in fact happen to Maddie.
3.Mr Anderson/Claire- these two definitely have something to do with all of this. We’ve seen that they’ve worked together on this bogus school uniform business and i feel like it (the money) absolutely has something to do with Maddie’s murder. But at the same time the show is throwing their suspicious behavior in our faces and making it almost overly obvious that these two have some hand in it so I’m not sure that either one was the one who “pulled the trigger” so to speak. Rewatching his first few scenes i truly did not get pervert vibes (when he offered her his number to talk or picking her up from the car accident)he seems like he’s genuinely trying to be a father figure to her but something (probably involving the money) happened between then and her murder because he is definitely hiding something.
4.Nicole- this one is tricky. At first glance i thought she was just one of her best friends, so obviously she cares a lot, and she’s just stuck in denial about her friend being gone. But after rewatching the first 5 episodes there’s definitely something off about her. I agree with what some other users on here are saying. I think nicole had something to do with impersonating Maddie to get the money from mr. Anderson for her to go to college. It would explain why Maddie can’t remember anything about the money. Also nicole is still stupidly optimistic about her friend being alive even after they get the results of the blood tests back proving it’s Maddie’s blood. possibly suggesting that she knows what happened but because they don’t find a body she assumes Maddie is still alive and “made it out safe”. Also torn about the scene where she’s putting the empty totes in her trunk. It’s either because there’s something suspicious in there or she’s creeped out about being watched because they had all just received the video. Her having something to do with maddie’s murder might also prove my theory about why Simon can see her but nicole can’t. If she hurt Maddie that would not be an “unconditional love.” And her “i’d like to think we can be forgiven for anything as long as our heart’s in the right place” is a very strange and specific word choice, and the fact that she “found” the ticket in the woods after going off by herself bothers me. I don't have all the details worked out yet, but out of all the suspects, she's pulling to the forefront for me.
5.I don't think her mom or Xavier's dad had anything to do with it but i could be wrong. i think her mom came to the school just to try to reconcile after her and Maddie had a fight about something and they never got the chance to. the only thing that bothers me about Xavier's dad is the photo they show Simon with the ticket without the boot print on it showing obvious tampering. Its almost like he can't be guilty because he thinks his son did it and is trying to cover up for him.

 *very intrigued by the mrs. fields theories. I agree that she's just in the picture enough for us to remember that she's there for some reason but she hasn't contributed much other than a shady line or two. 

1. I think that a lot of the theories on here about her still being alive are wrong. I think she is in fact dead. She wouldn't keep returning to the boiler room after she "jumped the fence" if she was in a coma or possessed. I know we all want to believe that somehow she'll find her way back but sometimes the "good guy" just doesn't win. I think part of her character development will be learning to accept this because she has stated several times that she "wasn't ready to die". Now knowing that there are going to be 2 seasons, i think that we will find her body at the end of season 1 and season 2 we will slowly learn about what happened to her and at the end of season 2 find out who killed her.

Hi Dads, I've had my kid for an entire 15months now. She's growing so well. Blasting through all the normal growth and development stages. She doesn't seem to sleep much better than when she was born but I graduated and have a stable job with helps a TON!
My 1 year ownership of a child advice to the even fresher dads out there:
Get a support system around you if you can. My mom and mother in law have been extremely helpful taking my baby 1 or 2 times per month so that my wife and I can eat a dinner together or something without trying to catch falling water every few minutes.
Get off social media-- sort of! This is a weird one. But these moments are quick. I spend as much of my time with my kid WITH MY KID. If you know what I mean. Being present means a lot to the kid. I even write, to the best of my unlearned ability, little stories about whatever silly or meaningful thing she did to try and engrain those memories deeper into my psyche.
RELAX! Your kid is extremely resilient and will learn how to walk, talk, tumble, cry and socialize whether you want it to or not. You don't need to force it through developmental stages or do everything perfectly. You are as human as that little babbling ball of baby blubber. Try to enjoy the good moments and smile through the bad ones.
Anyway. I'm alive, The kid's alive. The wife's alive. We all like each other. I'm not special. You can do it too!

Hi all... A question has brought me to reddit today. Sorry it's a long post 😅 (M30) born and brought up in India. I thought I had a normal childhood and normal parents, but that facade came crashing down when I got married 2 years ago. I saw how mean, selfish, controlling and manipulative they are. My mother more than anyone else. I got hurt, my wife and her family got hurt and I came to know that I don't exactly like them afterall. I had been living separately from them since I finished college and moved to another city for a job. I think I should add here that nobody iny family has left their homes. Ever. My family and most of my extended family are into family run businesses and eventually all the children join in. I never really analysed why I don't visit home more than twice a year. Why I've never shared too much personal information with them. I tried talking sense into them, tried to make them realise that whatever shit they were pulling is causing a lot of pain to me and my in laws. My mother controlled the entire wedding. She turned over every decision our families made together. And when I tried confronting her about it she denied everything. Said nobody made any decisions so she had to. She also made me use up all my savings for the "lavish" wedding we never wanted. Also took away the gifts we got at the wedding. Claimed them as hers. My whole family failed to see my point and now they all think I'm an asshole who hates his mother because now he has a wife. My wife had many breakdowns throughout this whole thing but has been supportive of me this entire time. I feel guilty for ruining her life by bringing her into this mess. Her family is more open, the elders actually listen to their children. The opinions and feelings of the children actually matter in her family. But now I'm scared to bond with them as well. Anyway, I decided to cut them out of my life after a year long struggle after my wedding. I kept calling them, talking to them asking them to acknowledge their share of mistakes and make some efforts towards me and my wife. They did no such thing. Instead, they blamed me for being impolite with them. My in-laws used to talk to them but they responded harshly to them as well. I'm barely in touch with my family now. They call once every couple of months, behave as if my wife doesn't exist, talk to me for 2 whole minutes and then I'm cut off again. Now getting to my question: Despite the betrayal and anger, I still miss them. Or a part of me who wished to be with them in their old age hurts and misses them. I miss my hometown and my mother's food. I hate that my wife will never get to taste it. Does this hurt ever go away? I've been grieving for like a year and I still can't shake this feeling. Any tips?
