So this recipe predates WWI and has been passed down in my family (UK/Ireland). My mother often made if for us growing up and it is fantastic. The lightest 'victoria sponge' imaginable. BUT it's very fussy in certain regards. It fails when beaten by any kind of machine. It only works when beaten by hand with a wooden spoon for a longer period of time than my weak modern arm can manage (20-30 minutes, at a very, very slow pace, almost folding?). And it seems sensitive to temperature. Also, the ratio of flour to eggs seems very low. Yet, I saw my mother make it many, many times growing up following this exact recipe (with lord knows how many unwritten qualifications). I'm not a good baker and I've never made it successfully. I've double checked that this is the recipe that she used and it is.

I noticed yesterday the fan on my system (WAHL424B air handler and WCH4424GKB100 compressor) started not turning off with the normal system cycling.
My first thought was bad thermostat (Honeywell RTH6350). I have a nest I wanted to install (had one previously because we installed a whole house dehumidifier. It went bad so we went back to the Honeywell and left the dehumidifier disconnected) so I hooked up the new Nest wanting to get the dehumidifier back with summer coming. At first the Nest came on and everything seemed fine, it would turn on the cool/heat on the compressor outside but wouldn't turn the fan on. Then I pulled the nest off the base (with the system powered because it's never been an issue before) and the fan immediately came on but wouldn't go back off when I put the nest back on the base (the nest did power back on just fine at this point so I assume I had 24V to it still). I have to cut the power to the air handler at the breaker to turn the fan off.
My second thought was the fan relay (TP 90340) so I pulled that and tested it on the bench with 24V and both of the double relays seemed to be working properly so I put it back in and hooked everything back up. I took pics before disconnecting and made double sure to hook it back up properly. I also took a good look at the wires and spade connectors and they seem fine, at least visually.
Now I have no 24V to the thermostat and when I turn the breaker back on the fan immediately comes on but no power at the thermostat. I thought maybe broken 24V line on the air handler end from moving things around. The 24V lines that activate the relay are black and blue whereas the ones at the thermostat are blue (common) and red (24V). I can understand that I may have damaged a 24V line somewhere, and I can probably trouble shoot that, but I am still confused as to why the fan still comes on when the breaker is turned on even when the 24V line was working with both thermostats.
I'm not sure where to go next (other than call a company which I'm obviously trying to avoid) FYI, I'm an engineer so have a decent familiarity with the individual electrical components and testing just not necessarily the HVAC system as a whole.

Finally - I have some old volcano blocks from when I was attempting to use a Sidewinder X2 and failing. It would take some modeling work, but it looks like my current heatbreak is threaded the same as the volcano blocks I have, and it can take the same glass ball thermistor and same 40W heater I already have, so all I would need are nozzles. Has anyone done this, and if so - have any pre-existing models for part cooling? It looks like the volcano block/nozzle would be the highest flow potential, but I'm not 100% sure I could come up with a good enough cooling system to work with it, while there are really good pre-existing systems for the V6 style heatsink, which would still be able to take a volcano down the road should I still hit flow issues.
Thoughts? I'm at 80mm/s print speed, with dynamic acceleration between 500-2500 depending on the move. I've got an ADXL to go through the process of getting input shaping completed, but I'm wanting to put that in once I have a fairly final setup, and I know the printer can do more. During Klipper acceleration testing, I can get up to 4k before it really shows, and getting all of the way to 7k before anything starts skipping. I'm feeling I should be able to get to ~6k or so and 120mm/s print speed if I can get the flow bumped up enough and bring some added rigidity to the fan system that the HeroMe is lacking, and the V6-style looks like it should be able to get there, but some advice on the last step would be appreciated.

I really dig Belgian beers, I made my candi syrup myself since rock candi sugar and candi syrups are just too expensive.
I will try to be concise here.
Big shout-out to this guy who inspired me getting into this project.
Let's start: candi syrup is not the same as inverted syrup. It is inverted and went through the Maillard reaction instead of caramelization.
The work of the person I linked above mentioned that candi syrup is just sugar with various amount of DAP. It kinda work and can get a decent product.
Pros: tastes great
Cons: reeks of ammonia, tends to crystallize and is probably not completely inverted.
The goal of this project was:
1) To get ~100% inversion 2) To get those Maillard reaction products that are so yummy.
Inverted syrup is more easily fermented and does not crystallize like a concentrated saccharose solution.
Inversion can happen without addition of an acid but is best done in acidic conditions
The problem: The Maillard reaction does not happen in acidic conditions and is completely inhibited under pH 4. You also need an amine to react with sugars. Monosaccharides (glucose/fructose...) are in equilibrium between a linear and ring conformation, the maillard reaction happens on the linear form of the sugar. Having inverted the sugar creates therefor a better condition for the reaction to happen (Fructose in saccharose is locked in a circular conformation)
What you will need:
- Table sugar
- A precision scale
- Tartaric acid (I optimized it for this one, it is not the same as cream of tartar)
- A thermometer
- pure DAP (not mixed with Urea!). I found info on a french speaking belgian forum about people using ammonium carbonate, I haven't tried it but I will detail it.
Step 1: Inversion of the sugar
Add 0.5g of tartaric acid in 500g of table sugar, cover with just enough water to dissolve it
Once it is completely dissolved, stop stirring, lower the heat and bring it up to 116 - 120 C for 20 min. If you are aiming for a golden syrup, it is important to stay at 120C or lower. Otherwise, it's ok.
Step 2: neutralize the acid and kick start the Maillard reaction.
/!\ Here is some basic chemistry, sorry for that
You need to add an equal amount of DAP molecule than the number of tartaric acid molecules. It is not the same amount in mass. This is referred as "quantity of matter" and the units for that are "moles".
Tartaric acid is a diacid: it is able to give 2 hydrogen ions to acidify the solution. Conveniently, in DAP, the phosphate is able to take up one two hydrogen ions. In other words: 1 molecule of DAP neutralizes 1 molecule of tartaric acid.
0.5g of tartaric acid = 0.0033 moles
0.0033 moles of DAP = 0.46 g
This scales up linearly, if you don't want to do the math, just multiply by 2 for 1kg, 3 for 1.5kg and so on.
If using ammonium carbonate, you need 0.32g.
Once the DAP is added, stir quickly. The color change will be immediate from pale yellow to golden. It won't smell like ammonia
Step 3: bring your syrup to the temperature you desire
This is a bit a personal choice. If you want it golden, slowly bring it up to 121-123C
You can increase the temperature on medium heat but be aware that when you reach 140C, things go fast and within a minute you can go from a no burnt sugar flavor and rich plums, figs and dates taste to a slightly burnt sugar.
Step 4: Stall the reaction
Add water (for 500g of sugar I added about 120 mL to my syrup at 141C) to bring the temperature down under 110C. Stir fast and vigorously, it may splash.
Step 4: make a 80% sugar syrup / 20 % water.
This happens at 112C. Once you get there, take your pot and put it in cold water, stirring, to bring down the temperature. Once it is cool enough, transfer it to a clean jar and put it in the fridge. It won't crystallize and will keep for a long time.

The asteroid picks up speed and as it does, ships drop into existence around it. Harsh, angular, and utilitarian, they bear the heraldry of a dozen human nations. But they were just an escort.
The asteroid's orbit bends until it snaps, arcing out until it intersects one specific, glittering point.

A cosmic battering ram.
Humans don't believe in half measures.

The asteroid doesn't streak so much as scream across space. The Sensorium paints the orbital space in lurid shades of violet and aquamarine. Details too small to perceive are rendered obvious by clever tricks of lighting and thought.
Lysithea shifts and checks. Vectors spin out into space, weaving, crossing, entwining. Threads on a cosmic loom. They pick and snip until a choice few remained. The ones that mattered.
A battering ram and gate a planet large.
They whisper to the Sensorium. A billion voices whisper back. They whisper defiance and confidence and cold, hard math. Not fear. Never fear. That was not their station.
Lysithea listens to the shape of the whispers but not their contents. They could not. They had a duty to perform. So, they whisper out into the echoing space between minds.
Prepare. Prepare. Prepare.
And then they return themselves to themselves. The system sits waiting. An array of knives and claws and axes and clubs, pointed outwards. The industry of an empire writ large in the language of uranium and yttrium-aluminum lasers.
Everything they had.
Not everything they needed.
They take a breath and their scaly wings flare.
Missiles begin their dives.

The asteroid screams. In x-ray, in microwave, in radio. It screams with untamed radiation, with the agony of physical laws taken to what extremes they could be, with the fury of a ravenous beast of war. It screams with the full power of the engine at its back, spurring it into motion.
Next to the asteroid's war cry, its attendants seem inconsequential. Whispers in the dark.
But to Lysithea, they mattered.
Human warships pierce the void with lances of bright energy. Missiles flare and tumble or detonate on the spot as they meet the net of light.
The humans had prepared. Because the humans didn't believe in half measures.
Flashes of light pock the asteroid as a select few find their mark. Gamma ray fireworks filtered through a mist of hydrogen plasma and water vapor. Cracks spread, shearing off huge sections of mass to be left behind or evaporate to nothing in the vast engine's drive plume.
But the asteroid trundles onwards, carried on the back of simple inertia.
Lysithea reaches out across the Sensorium, running their claws along what was available to them. They listen to the whispers of their charges. And they nod, or they nod as much as one like themselves can.
They still had tricks left. They still had fury to spare.

3.6x10^16 kg 0.05 astronomical units 

The sun burns and the orbital platforms drink greedily of its fire. They stand vigil over their charge, an orb of water and stone and air. The blue patina of a planetary shield skates across the top of the atmosphere.
That was not their concern. Their concern was something wholly less grand.
Lysithea raises their arms and the platforms come to attention. They shift in place, orienting themselves. Lysithea can hear their little voices in the Sensorium as they ready themselves.
Lysithea gives they order, and the platforms sing.
Concentrated energy. The power of a dozen platforms tap-dancing in the photosphere, beaming untold power out to all who called this place home, all focused into ten thousand vigilant sentinels hanging in the void.
Plasma arcs into the void and Lysithea watches the asteroid come alight.
Bolts strike the surface and scatter. Hot hydrogen mixes with steam and metal vapor, cooling into great auroras smeared across the asteroid's sky. Coherent fury comes apart, boiling water and metal alike but never quite reaching the surface.
Deep in the asteroid's belly, a machine hums. Liquid nitrogen swirls, carrying away the heat of coils of metal alloy. The magnetic field generator hums to itself as it does its work.
Because the humans had prepared.
Because humans don't believe in half measures.
The Sensorium whispers in Lysithea's ear. Rage and hate and fear. The battering ram looms close, diminished, but still enough.
Lysithea was not done. Their charges were not done.
But still, they whisper to the Sensorium. Because what they had may not be enough.
Prepare. Prepare. Prepare.

The sentinels watch and Lysithea watches through their eyes. The Sensorium shivers with the furious song of their defense. They watch the distance to their target tick down and down and down and they make a decision. Close enough.
They gesture with their claws and the rain of plasma ceases as the sentinels rotate. Even through the hail of missiles, there's something that could be calm. The tense calm that preceded a hurricane, but calm anyways.
The sentinels unfurl like metal flowers, opening collectors to drink deep from all the power the solar platforms could feed them.
For a moment, the Sensorium is quiet. The quiet was nothing of awe or doubt. Nothing of the sort. Fear was heavy in that space, but like tinder catching a spark, something else spreads.
Lysithea channels it. The sentinels rotate, lenses clicking into place, electric eyes peering deep into the night.
Then they roar. Scream with fury, with love, with defiance. Lasers spark to life and radiators glow white hot as the sentinels push themselves beyond their limits.
The future was a possibility. Only the now mattered.

Lysithea reaches out into the tatters of the Sensorium and feels it reach back. They let themselves hear the voices of all who called their charge home. All those who had prepared and planned, just in case this moment came.
They speak to those voices and those voices roar back.
As the humans descend to do battle, a tide rises from the surface to give them just that.

Hi all! I am 2 weeks post operation for a Bilateral Salpingectomy and just wanted to share my experience for anyone that wants to read! If I missed anything I apologize!
Background: I am an African American 23 year old woman. I live in Central Texas and I have health insurance through my mother’s job.
So to start it all off, I started by reaching out to my primary doctor and from there they gave me some recommendations of doctors that would do it. I want to mention that prior to this I only mentioned not wanting kids with my primary doctor and no previous conversations about sterilization specifically.
After researching all the places my doctor recommended I settled on Women’s Health Domain (Austin, TX) with Dr. Handcock. I know there are multiple doctors at WHD and I am assuming they are all okay with the procedure! Then, I scheduled my consult for February 24th.
The day of my consultation I prepared a whole binder with reasons why I do not want kids and why I personally would not be a good parent. I did not need it at all! Dr. Handcock asked me some questions about my health and any problems that may prevent me from getting the procedure. After that he asked me if I knew it was permanent procedure and all that jazz. He did mention that he will be asking this a bunch and it’s not because he doesn’t trust me but because it’s his job, which I completely understand. Then he explained the procedure in detail and even drew pictures for me to help me understand! After that I scheduled my pre op appointment
March 17th- Pre op appointment
For this appointment I decided to bring my boyfriend along so he could know the procedure I was getting and can ask any questions he may have. When Dd. Handcock got into the room he, again, asked me if I was 10000% sure, which I am, and then had me sign some consent forms.
During this my boyfriend started asking his questions. Unfortunately I was not paying attention because I was reading all of my forms but it sounded like he was asking if it would mess with my hormones or period. After that Dr.Handcock walked us to his scheduler and we set the date for the procedure (March 17th). After we got scheduled, I went to go do some blood work which isn’t too stressful for me.
After this appointment, I went ahead and called my insurance to make sure that this would be 100% covered and I would not have to pay anything for it. They confirmed that it is 100% covered and I should be good to go!
March 14-16
This is where everything starts getting kinda crazy. A few days after I scheduled my procedure the surgery center called me and let me know that before I get the procedure I would have to pay 3k+ after I tell them that it should be 100% covered by my insurance they try telling me that it is because I haven’t met my deductible (which isn’t true, insurance covers it 100% no matter deductible or copay) After I let her know the deductible and copay should be covered as well she got very condescending with me and I ended up hanging up in tears. After going back and forth with them for two days about it I decided to bite the bullet and get a credit card to pay for it because I was going to get the procedure no matter what.
Fast forward to the day before my procedure I get a call from the surgery center that I let go to voicemail because I did not want to deal with them at that moment. My phone has a feature where it sends me a text message of the voicemail that was left and they said that “Wanted to let you know that we called your insurance for a third time And I'll let the rep note today that you have been given different information and we had been given. So they dug deeper into your plan and they stated if the service was preventative and not diagnostic, then it would be covered at 100% um with no copay and no deductible. So just wanted to relay that information.” (Copy and pasted). When I tell y’all I canceled that credit card so fast! I had such a big feeling of relief that I actually cried a bit! 🤣
Procedure day!!! (March 17th)
My procedure was scheduled for 10am but I was told to get there at 8am. The night before I was so nervous that I barely got any sleep and just made sure I had everything in my room ready for when I get back.
After sitting in he waiting room for about 30 minutes they called me back and let me know that they will call my boyfriend back to join me after I get dressed and have my IV in, which I was a little bit disappointed because I was so nervous to get the IV that I really would’ve enjoyed having back with me but oh well I’ll live. After taking a pregnancy test, negative thank god, they sat me down and got me a heated blanket and let me know that if I was still cold they could attach a heater to my hospital gown which I thought was so cool!
My nurse and anesthesiologist were in the room with me and just asking questions about my health. I let my anesthesiologist know that I smoke weed daily and that I stopped smoking two days before (per Dr’s request) and she was really appreciative of that information because it helps her determine the dosage I need. After the nurse put my IV in she gave me a shot in my stomach, I don’t remember what it was for, and that hurt the most if I’m being
After they brought my boyfriend back it was about 15-25 minutes before they were ready to bring me into the OR and my nerves shot straight up which they noticed so they gave me some medicine through my IV to help me calm down (which I think is why I can’t really remember what happens after this) They let my boyfriend go back to the waiting room and wheeled me to the room. They pumped my bed up so I could scoot over onto the table and that is all I remember. I don’t even remember scooting over to the table.
I woke up extremely groggy and disoriented. I didn’t even think they did the procedure until I tried sitting up and felt pain. The nurse heard me moving around and came in to check on me but noticed I was about to go right back to bed and asked me if I preferred white noise or rain, I’m a rain gal, she turned on the rain noise and let me go back to sleep.
The second (maybe 3rd) time I woke up I remember feeling so many intense feelings with realizing I will never have to worry about getting pregnant and that I really wanted my boyfriend in the room with me🤣 After they brought my boyfriend in they turned on the light and we started the discharge process. They gave my boyfriend my before and after photos and the discharge packet with all the information on my procedure, when to take my meds and what they help with. They also included a cute little thank you card with signatures from everyone that helped with my surgery which made me smile so hard. After this I don’t remember much but my boyfriend got me into the car and we were on our way to H-E-B to get my meds.
When we got to H-E-B I felt comfortable enough to walk around (this one wasn’t too big or busy so I felt fine) I was surprised I could actually walk around with no issues which I’m pretty sure was thanks to the medicine I was on. After we got the meds and got home my boyfriend put me in bed and that was all! If y’all have any questions regarding my recovery please feel free to ask! I am an open book!

Hi everyone, I'm about to take the plunge of making a few big, coordinated changes in my small (~1300 sq ft, not including basement) Baltimore row home, and could really use some advice/a sanity-check. I'm comfortable with plumbing/electric/carpentry/some HVAC, so this is all potentially what I'd spend the summer working on...
Basically, I'm thinking of getting the 2-3 ton Mr.Cool universal pump+handler to replace my current HVAC, an induction cook-top, wall-mounted electric oven, smaller refrigerator, and heat pump water heater. Here's the kitchen, which is the source of most of my questions/hurdles:

I want the refrigerator to remain where the current one is, so that the counter can be as long and continuous as possible, but the HVAC return and furnace/boiler exhaust on the wall will make even a small one jut out. I'd also like to add a real stove hood. So, I'm wondering if I can kill two birds with one stone by finding some alternative way of handling HVAC return, and by repurposing one of the exhaust ducts for the hood vent.
I'll just add that I'm not sure how important the return is for my particular situation: every door in my house has >1 inch clearance, I think air moves quite easily throughout, and since these changes would mean everything runs on electric, there wouldn't be the worst-case danger of accidentally pumping gas into the bedroom etc...
Advice on any of these ideas is much appreciated!

I have several Gree AC units - GWH09ACC and similar. They work fine for cooling and heating; however I have noticed that the "Dehumidify" (dry) mode uses very little power (~50W) but also does very little (I have smarthome humidity sensors and it's hard to make out any change in humidity). The manual says very little about "Dry mode" at all, except that the fan will always run "at low speeds".
