Hi, so this is a two part post.
First is the general question that I am curious about, and second is my scenario.

When choosing a new component, how much does the power draw affect your decision?

Primarily looking at GPU as the main component.
Do you factor in the cost over life time you'll have the component for?
Do you factor in if you need to purchase a new PSU, or maybe anything else?
Or would you say you are primarily driven by raw cost / performance of a component?

My scenario

Okay so now my scenario which gives context to why I ask, but feel free to ignore as the above might actually help me. Or just respond to this, all good.
My current build:

CPU	AMD 5600X
GPU	GTX 1080 (ol' reliable)
RAM	32GB (not sure on rest tbh)
Motherboard	Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro Ax
PSU	Corsair RM650X
Storage	2x M.2 SSD
Monitor	Asus ROG 1440p 165hz (I was young...)

I have been spoilt by this GPU. Outlasted all previous components with me upgrading mobo, cpu, and ram about 2.5 years ago and this GPU lasting 6 years now.
It still runs most at 1440P, but PC is typically strategy and ARPG with some older games in the mix. Nothing too crazy.
I am at the point tho where it's age is showing. The 8GB of vram holds reasonably well put the GPU will often be at 100% usage way before CPU even gets to 10% in a lot of games.
What do I upgrade to? Is what I am asking myself.
I am using Toms Hardware as general benchmark with some give or take on the general performance of cards.
Here just looking at the 1440p Ultra Graph (feel free to give me other resources if you want) there are a few cards that are roughly where I'd be happy with from raw performance and those are the cards that sit roughly between 100 - 120.
What about budget tho?
This is where the title comes into it.
My PSU is currently great, it is fully modular, gold rated, held up pretty well. Maybe it's a bit old.. maybe it needs an upgrade regardless, but it is sat strong for now.
The 1080 looking at this resource sits at about 180 W. That's a nice number. What a card!
Now, if I look at the cards I mention about, they are like so:

Given the above, and my PSU, I'm going to estimate that 300 W plus will leave little room for comfort. Ignoring the additional 50% cost from the 1080 in power consumption.
The 4070 is sitting in a pretty nice position.
Obviously, there are other factors like the performance on the chart, but then DLSS and other nvidia niceties that help the performance. But also the VRAM, 4070 has 12GB which is an upgrade from 8GB of the 1080 but still on lower side for longevity.
How much will you pay tho?!
Okay, so the market is annoying. Nvidia are selling high and it's not the market it was when I got the 1080 for £400.
I am thinking around £600 but that can be somewhat flexible really to 10-20%.
Using Overclockers for these numbers below as rough market values.
A 4070 is around £600, with Diablo, which could be sold to take 30-40 off off that.
A 6950X is in the same price range, without a game. More performance though and more VRAM - but more power consumption.
But then a new PSU, is that needed? That would be an additional £100-£200 which blows the budget out.

This is mainly just the scribbles of my thoughts.
Do I actually need to upgrade for my current use case? Maybe not.
I could probably wait it out until a big game comes out I want to play, and maybe the market has changed or maybe the 7800 XT is out by then? Who knows.

St. Croix Jane Doe was a 35-60 year old woman of unidentified height, weight, and eye color but with “mousy brown”, short (between 2.5-3in) hair who was discovered on October 21, 2002 in Houlton, St. Croix county in Wisconsin (to be even more precise, near Andersen Scout Camp Road).
Or rather: her head, wrapped in a black garbage bag, and showing no signs of trauma was found in a heavily wooded ravine by the hiking Boy Scouts. By the time it was discovered, the woman had been deceased for up to a year. No other skeletal remains were found. There were also no clothes, jewelry, or personal items to help identify her.
However, she had quite distinguishable features: according to the Doe Network, she may have been “cognitively impaired” due to a “flat face”, “pronounced forehead”, and “wide spaced eyes.” Her eyes were especially notable being “wider than normal” that suggests even if she wasn’t cognitively impaired, she must have looked “different” while she was still alive.
Furthermore, Jane Doe had spent at least the few last years of her life without teeth. No dentures were located at the scene as well.
Originally, she was thought to be of Asian descent (possibly with a mixture of Hispanic, Native American, and/or white as well), however, just this year, genetic genealogists working with the DNA Doe Project established she was actually of Swedish descent.
Other clues:

• according to the Sheriff’s office, Jane Doe’s head was deposited at the scene within a year of its discovery;
  
• she might have been institutionalized before her death;
  
• her relatives might have been migrants to the Twin Cities area.
  

Who was Jane Doe? How and why did she die? Where are the rest of her remains?

So my story is fucked and I'm tired I'm so fucking tired ND I don't know know what to do anymore. I moved to ny in Jun 2021 i am a traveling cna so essentially staying in one place isnt ideal, I ended up meeting a guy on tinder. I met up with him a couple times met his family even went to his dad's wedding on a 2nd date, met the whole family and found out he had 2 baby mammas and 2 kids. Me being the hard headed person I am. I said oh I can handle this. Everything was going grate his mom said she would help us get our own place I was staying w family he was living w his mom didn't really ask why.... shoulda asked why. Anywho, we get the place me him and his son all move into the apartment which everything is in my name so I have to pay for it. His mom helped us get in but she wanted me to pay her back I was originally like ya that's no problem with my traveling job that is fine. Half way threw the month his mom starts asking if I can go work for her part time. Her job needs help and she knew I was a cna. With her being my bfs mom I wanted to do what I could to help. So I started working there part time and traveling part time. Well she started needing more help and convinced me that I would be making the same cuz ot time was the same blah blah blah. Everything is fine its going good I'm working for her I Start making friends. A co worker needed a ride home one night her name we'll say is lady bug. She becomes my friend that night, I start taking her home every night from work even the nights I didn't work I would go and get her and me and my bf would fight about it and he would say she irresponsible and can't be an adult. Time goes on we find out I'm pregnant. I and been trying for so long to get pregnant this was planned I told him I wanted and kid he said he didn't want one I said that's fine if u end up not wanting him by the end of it we can go our ways and ill go home to my family and he'll go w me. He thought I was kidding. My family lived 3000 miles away when I was pregnant all I wanted to do was see them and I couldn't. But that was okay cuz I had lady bug she was there threw everything the whole pregnancy went to my appointments made my emergency bag for the babe was even there the day after the babe was born to hold him. I thought I had found my ride or die I would do anything for her she said can u come get me I said drop the Addy. She say can I get 20$ id give her what I got..... I shoulda known. She convinces me to leave my baby daddy, she says he's abusive I can do better, that I didn't deserve how he treated me, it gets to the point where I listen to her. I leave him, I'm expecting my bestie to be there to help me I just had my baby at this point, the post partum was kicking in hard. On top of that I was being evicted out of my apartment because he refused to work while I was pregnant so when I went on leave nothing got paid. 3 weeks after having the baby I get cleared to go back to work, this is after having an emergency c section and being put under the gas because my body went into shock. I wasn't supposed to return for 12 and I did it in 3. Scared to lose a roof over my head and scared to lose my kid I had to leave my babe daddy. He didn't care we were getting evicted he didn't care I just had a babe he just didn't care and my son deserved better than that. I leave him October 2022 3 months after the baby is born. Still doesn't have a job still isn't help and has decided he's just going to move into his moms instead of working. She didn't have room for all of us just him what was I suppose to do. It was at this time I realized he didn't care about us and it was up to me. I work my ass off get a place and move he bounces around .mind u I haven't heard nothing from lady bug Come Thanksgiving my bfs mom is like u know he's been talking to lady bug right. I confront them they swear it's nit like that. She swears she's my best friend she could never hurt me or do that. I'm shitty for ever thinking she would hurt me after everythung............ its not June they got married on Friday. I I'm lost
