The Brick Ballroom

The event space at 119 B S Broadway St, Siloam Springs, was formerly a Chevrolet dealership. The building is 100 years old. Inside are black walls and original tin ceilings, vintage glass chandeliers, blue benches, and a built-in bar with a sink. There are also 5,000 square feet of covered balconies and gardens. The starting venue fee for a high-season wedding is $3,000.

Osage House

Located at 243 Pace Ln, Cave Springs, offers a beautiful and modern wedding venue. The venue is suitable for couples seeking minimalism, with architectural designs mostly in black and white. A chapel will be located a short distance from the lobby and included in the wedding package. With a maximum capacity of 428 people, wedding venue rentals start at $2800 in high season.

The Elms Mansion

The Alaska Zoo

Kauapea Beach

Also known as Secret Beach, has a 3,000-foot-long North Shore beach. Enjoy a sparsely populated stretch of beach with breathtaking views of Moquawe Island and Kilauea Lighthouse. Perfect for your seaside wedding venue. You can look for the right wedding contractor to prepare everything for you and prices will probably range from $800 to $1500.

Moana Surfrider

The resort is located at 2365 Kalākaua Ave, Honolulu. First opened in 1901, it is just steps from the perfect shores of legendary Waikiki Beach and within walking distance of Honolulu's most popular shopping, dining, and entertainment attractions. There are seven event rooms in total, and the ballroom can accommodate up to 300 people. Wedding packages range in price from $3,500 to $9,500.

My fiancée and I for our honeymoon are going to Oahu for 7 days and then Kauai for 7 days in December. I’m starting to think of any excursions we want to do. I’ve read that the water can be pretty rough in Kauai in December. Should we plan to do whatever snorkeling excursions while in Oahu? Do you think we’ll be able to do a Napali coast boat excursion in December? (We’ll be in Kauai from 12/17-12/24) We have been to Maui where we did a helicopter tour so weren’t really looking to do a helicopter tour this trip. Thanks in advance!

I've often heard the expression "don't play games with me." It's an unusual expression that I understand, but don't vibe with, as it gives game playing a bad rap.
Games are meant to be playful, not manipulative, and the intent is to bring joy, excitement and even healthy competition to the moment. It’s a departure from the grind, an energy shift into presence and the lightness of being. A game can serve to be a bonding, taking a group of individuals and giving them a group purpose. It’s an opportunity to focus, removing us from the cacophony of noises that pound on the daily into our senses.
The word “playful” derives its meaning from the word “play,” meaning that we’re filled (full) with play and joy. No stressors exist from work or financial dealings. We’re in the moment, and that moment is anxiety free. Unless, of course, the angst is from being competitive-about-stupid-shit like I am. I treat some games like the Super Bowl, even pulling a hamstring playing Charades. Ever trying acting out “whole thing” of Titanic? Daddy went down with the ship, literally!
One affirmation/confirmation I’ve heard many times is that I’m a good dad. I would humbly agree. Contrary to what kind of an ass I can be to adults, my four kids get a devoted and loving father 24/7. No matter what difficult circumstances are thrown this way, the centered ground of being a great parent cannot be tumbled. Fumbled, yes, tumbled, no. The committed roots of love are too strong. One thing my children will never grow up to work out in therapy is - “I was raised with no laughs by a boring man who never smiled.” Ha!
Not having a dad in my life as a child reinforces the yearning to be an active, loving and supportive father to the four Shoemaker kids. I give them all I longed for as a boy.
One thing that stayed with me, and inspires me aways to heal, is missing what the other kids had - playing with their pops. I recall being so resentful of my neighbors, who had a large family unit, all referring to events as “my dad” this and “my dad” that. I sarcastically called the oldest boy next door, “my dad,” acting as if he was trying to make me jealous, when indeed he was simply spelling out his activity that day. “My dad is taking us to Phillies game.” Grrrr. It would send me to envy and sadness, knowing I could never utter those words.
One Father’s Day 18 years ago, my son Justin cued up the scene from Field of Dreams, where Kevin Costner’s character, Roy Kinsella, asks his ghost father, “do you want to have a catch?” With a devilish look on his face, Justin pressed play, and watched me bawl my eyes out, while begging him to stop the video.
That classic film is all based in the world of the game of baseball, metaphoric meanings aplenty, with family love at the core. All walks of life, varying goals and agendas, are all brought together by a game some have never even played. They found bliss on a field created from dreams. We can do the same in our lives, creating a personal world that’s not so dark and serious, abundant with emotional freedom.
My children thrive when we engage in games. Before bed I give them choices of invented family customs we play out. Most often they choose trivia we call, “Keyser Soze,” where my knowledge nudgers are spawned from looking around the room, like Keyser Soze made up his story in the film, The Unusual Suspects. For instance, I spy the vertical window blinds and ask, “what blind singer sang Georgia?”
We laugh a lot, even if it’s making fun of me for asking a dumb question. I’ll trip on a banana peel for them. Laughter is the greatest form of intimate unity.
I say we humans pull away from the evil triad of fear, doubt and worry, and jump on the train of love, light and laughter. If happiness is the goal, then there will be less “mind games” to worry about. You get to create your own energetic space, and the mean folks will go away when your vibe is about fun.

Oh. Gotta go. My kids have a Frisbee, waiting for their dad to play…on the sand…in front of our luxury hotel…in sunny Maui…where you’re not.

2023.05.09 00:48 tallulahQ Molokini Snorkel Tours - Trilogy, Pride of Maui, Redline Rafting?

We are getting married in Maui next week. I've been several times but this is his first time to Hawaii. I'd like to take him snorkeling at Molokini but I'm having trouble deciding the best way to do it. I did an 8-mile ocean kayak tour there as a kid that was awesome (no boats nearby, amazing wildlife), but we're thinking we'd prefer to do a boat this time. I've heard some boats are too big to get you close enough though. Trying to stay under $500 but I do like the low cost of the 2-hour Redline. Pride of Maui leaves at 8:00 a.m. but I'm worried that might be a little late in terms of getting space at the crater. I like the idea of being relaxed on Trilogy / Pride, but also like the adventure of Redline. Thoughts, advice, reviews?

Renters United has collaborated with the Lawrence & Gibson publishing collective to produce thousands of copies of the great New Zealand novel Rat King Landlord ("last year’s surprise literary hit" Stuff) to share across the country for absolutely free. At 50 stacks Izanagi summons a shogun around him, staying in an area around Izanagi in a 50 unit radius. Allies around the Shogun in that radius gets attack speed and power. The Shogun will last for 1 minute or until death.

Izanagi reaches forward to a friendly god, grabbing them and quickly sending them to Heaven and avoid damage and other effects. Izanagi gains movement speed while a god is in heaven and the god will come back wherever Izanagi is. While this ability is active Izanagi gains protections.

Izanagi reaches up and slices open the heavens, a holy light shining down around him. Izanagi is CC immune and is rooted in place during this ability. Allies inside the light are healed every .5 seconds and cannot be brought under 1 HP. As ally gods deal damage inside the light, the light grows. Izanagi gains mitigations while this ability is active. The light grows once a certain damage threshold is reached

Izanagi in my eyes would be a very supportive guardian, having some of the best saving potential in the game up there with the likes of Yemoja, Khepri, and Maui. He doesn’t do damage himself very much so he does need help but would keep his allies alive easily. If/when he comes out I hope Izanami gets a skin that has her as a Goddess of Creation before she was burned to death by Kagutsuchi. Izanagi is one of my most wanted gods, should have been the first Japanese guardian over Kuzenbo!

2023.04.24 00:42 Bans729 Itinerary advice!! 5 nights late july

Me and my husband are coming to Maui in late July for 5 nights to celebrate my 30th birthday. Here’s our rough itinerary:
Day 1 (arrival day) - 7/27

Flight lands in OGG at 11:24 am
Pick up rental car
Grab lunch nearby
Drive to Kihei/grocery shop
Check into VRBO
Casual dinner and early bedtime (coming from central time mainland and a 12 hr travel day so I imagine we will be exhausted)

Day 2 - 7/28

Wake up early and drive to Haleakala for sunrise (sunrise time 5:58 AM according to google)
Hike sliding sands
Head back to vrbo
Beach day rest of the day

Day 3 - 7/29 (my birthday)

Beach day
Birthday dinner ???

Day 4 - 7/30

Road to Hana

Day 5 - 7/31

Beach day

Day 6 (departure day)

Check out of VRBO
Head back to OGG and return rental car
Flight takes off 12:55 pm

Obviously this is a very rough/empty itinerary. I work an active healthcare job on my feet all day and I generally like to relax on vacation and I LOVE the beach so definitely want to have a lot of beach time. Our VRBO is near the Kamaole beach park area and we can walk from our VRBO to Charley Young beach. But I would love to hear any other beach recommendations for swimming and relaxing! Willing to drive away from our vrbo area! Relatively easy snorkeling off the beach would be a bonus as well as we don’t plan on taking any snorkeling tours.
For Haleakala, what time is recommended to leave from Kihei if sunrise is 5:58? Also, we would like to do the sliding sands trail, about how far down is it recommended to go? I would like to be back in Kihei by early afternoon and also not sure how well we will handle the altitude as we live at sea level. We are in above average shape and have done a downhill out/uphill back trail in Big Bend National Park without much difficulty.
For the road to Hana, I have it on our itinerary but not sure how far we’ll go depending on how we feel in the car. If we end up doing it all, I would ideally like to see a waterfall, see the black sand beach, and hike Pipiwai trail. I know there is a lot of info and opinions on stops along the road to Hana and the best way to navigate it. We would do the traditional way of starting in Paia, going out to Hana (and Pipiwai trail) and then come back the way we came. I do need some clarification though - do you have to get on the “back road” to Hana to get to Pipiwai trail? Or does the more treacherous part of the road start AFTER Pipiwai trail? I really want to avoid the back road area. Also, the day this is on our itinerary is a Sunday, not sure if that will have any impact on the experience.
As far as dining, we have a vrbo with a kitchen and plan to cook at least half our meals. But I would love any recommendations for restaurants (breakfast, lunch, or dinner). I especially would love a recommendation for a place to have my birthday dinner (mama’s fish house is full since we booked this trip sort of last minute). Doesn’t need to be “fine dining” but would love sit down service. I also love poke so any recommendations for poke would be appreciated as well.
Any other advice is welcome! This is our first time to Hawaii and *hopefully* not our last but we have no idea when we will get a chance to return. This is our last big vacation before we start trying for a baby so we want to enjoy it to the fullest.

935 (-24) cases this week. 715 on Oahu, 54 on Maui, 92 on Hawaii Island, 63 on Kauai, 1 on Molokai, 2 on Lanai, and 8 out of state.
10(+6) deaths this week, bringing the statewide total to 1,878
DOH's 7-day positivity rate is 9.4% (+0.2%)

Vaccination info: 3,484,829 vaccine doses administered so far. This is 2.3k over the past week (3,482,479), which is slightly higher than the 2.1k we had the week prior. Health officials say that 78.7%(0%) of the state's population has completed their primary series, 25.9%(-0.3%) have had a booster in the past 12 months, and 21.6%(+0.1%) have received the bivalent booster

Commentary: This seems to be where we're at. Kauai held steady at least. 10 deaths is obviously a concern, but it's probably more like noise than anything fundamentally changing though. There are usually single digit deaths for week, so on a percentage basis, there might be big swings - but this is probably within a couple of standard deviations. I expect that number to go down soon.
In national news, the FDA approved bivalent boosters for old/immunocompromised. If you or someone you know is in one of these categories, it's probably a good idea to get another booster. Especially if your side effects are minimal. But for most people, just keep on keeping on. Note that the CDC still needs to approve the recommendation.
