2023.03.25 00:55 No_Preparation_2000 Facebook marketplace ladies and gents…
2023.03.25 00:50 FearMyPony I ghosted a seller on FB marketplace. It was my fault.
I decided i need a microwave because cooking one serving is getting tedious. I go on FB marketplace and lo and behold, a cheap one is available! But i find out that the seller is a bit far away and i gotta take public transportation.
At first this wasn't a problem, we agreed to meet the next day.
Enter today, i sorta forgot about it as i went on through my day, i just hung out at a friend's house, had some coffee and did sweet FA.
But then when i remembered i had to go, i just packed up quickly and left.
Caffeinated, dehydrated, and with no food, the jitters and anxiety kicked in and i still had to ride public transportation (enter illness one: motion sickness and anxiety of riding things), holding the panic attack in the entire way.
I somehow make it to the place without throwing up or passing out and text them "I'm here"
And they give me the dreaded text. "9th floor"
Between the motion sickness, claustrophobia, and fear of heights, there was no way i'm getting in an elevator as my anxiety completely took the wheel.
They start calling me and texting "where are you" because i said i arrived around 5 minutes ago but i'm just in the lobby panicking.
At this point i just gave up, disappeared and went back home, and blocked the seller to forever cover my shame.
But 20 minutes they find me on another social media platform and start texting me, to which i blocked them there as well because LEAVE ME ALONE I WANNA DISAPPEAR INTO THE EARTH.
If you ever had a case of a buyer suddenly disappearing on you. Be gentle.
TL;DR: Went to buy a microwave off facebook, Panic attack happened, ghosted the buyer, will forever be ashamed.

2023.03.25 00:18 uratitbro Buying my next bike - 2nd hand
Hello all, I’m going to view this bike
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/605238374774262/ I’m not a huge expert on road bikes as I’ve only previously been cycling on my dads old Giant Defy, a solid start but it’s over 10 years old and been worn into the ground now!
My friend who’s a more regular cyclist than me believes this bike to be good value, do others agree?
Also… on a related note, if the bike is fine, what’s the best way to pay for it? Thanks in advance from a budding cyclist

2023.03.25 00:12 gjham Bought a car without V5. Next steps?
Hi all,
My brother passed his test on Wednesday and rather daftly bought a car through Facebook marketplace.
On his return home, I noticed he had no V5, instead a V62 form to request a new V5. He has no receipt or proof of ownership without this. Seller told him DVLA advised he could sell with this.
He’s young and daft and has already paid, meanwhile the car is sat in the seller’s driveway.
What are our steps from here? He has no insurance as he’s not the keeper yet. Our current plan is for someone to collect it tomorrow, obtain a receipt, register it as SORN and apply for the V5 to tax the car. Will this work?
Thanks

2023.03.24 21:48 Jimi-K-101 Wife almost fell for a parcel force collection scam on Facebook marketplace
It's the common scam where the "buyer" says they want the item but needs a courier to collect it, with the seller needing to pay an insurance fee.
My wife gave the scammer her email address (Gmail) and our postal address before realising it was a scam. She luckily didn't click on any of the links in the "parcel force" email she was sent.
She obviously hasn't fallen for the scam itself, but we are now worried what they scammer could do with her email address.
Are there any preventative measures we should take?

2023.03.24 21:46 TheHamBandit Bought a $29 concert Mitchell ukulele Mu40c online
TL;DR at bottom
I bought a Mitchell Concert Mu40c as a beater while my Kala SMH-C is shipped back for warranty repairs. Ive only been playing daily about 2 months and didn't want to lose the habit of playing at my desk daily. I went on a furious Facebook marketplace, Craigslist and Offerup hunt and nobody had a used <$70 ukulele that would answer my back.
Anyway, fast-forward to Sunday, I was fed up, so I ordered a CHEAP ukulele. $30 is the price that I will try garbage because I can sell it on offerup for $20 or use it as decoration. so anyway, here is the review.
Buying: (There goes my beer money this week.)
This thing was listed a few places on the internet for $80MSRP and discounted to $30, so cool. Its a $30 instrument they slapped a higher MSRP on to disguise it as less crap. There was no fooling me, I knew it was crap. I bought it anyway.
Receiving: (MMMM nice garbage)
I got it in a giant box filled with approximately $15 of packing materials and inside was packed a very safely nestled Ukulele box. Despite Fedex's usual best efforts, it arrived in one piece. I cracked the box open and had myself a look. what I found was "ukulele", it had 4 strings, it was the shape of a ukulele, but it looked more like the shadow of a real ukulele in Plato's cave. Attention to detail is not something that you get for $30. There were gaps on the body binding no amount of varnish could fill. the fret board was BONE dry and the strings looked and felt like the discards off a fishing line manufacturers floor. Overall, worth $30 in my opinion.
Upgrades: (value increased 33%!)
Okay, so I tuned the strings and I know they take some time to stretch in, but after tuning them all about 15 times and none of them holding tune for even a single strum I gave up. I didn't want to spend 6 hours tuning, strumming once, tuning, strumming again, tuning. So i ripped the strings off and replaced it with a set of De'Addero Black Nylons I had laying around. In about 10 minutes they were holding tune for a minute or two and after an hour they were holding tune for about 3/4 of a song. I will admit, the volume was decent, the sound wasn't horrible and it was only a little flat at the 12th fret. I was able to jam some tunes on it. overall it really increased the instruments look, feel, and sound. they other strings sounded twangy and well, like garbage. Now I was rocking and rolling.
Two days of playing: (Is there a bee in the house?)
I played this ukulele for two days and it held pretty good tune once the strings settled. the tuners felt cheap and kinda grind when you turn them, but it was not as bed as i thought. Don't get me wrong, its a cheap instrument with poorly fitted and over glued binding, but boy did it make sounds close to in tune. My big issue was an constant buzzing on the C string for frets 2-6. I tried to ignore it, but it was too much to bear, something had to change.
Repairs: (Look mom, I'm a luthier!)
It was time to fix this hunk of junk. I loosened the strings and pulled them out of the way and used a metal ruler to rock the frets and finding the high one and PAY-DIRT fret 5 and 6 were both high. Filed those down so they were flush, re-rounded a bit and checked to make sure the buzzing was fixed. Then I pulled the strings off once again, slapped some mineral oil on the fret board, shimmed the bridge with cut up bits of index card to fix the intonation issues and tuned it up. Now I would say my $30 instruments worth $35 and serves as an adequate camping/beach beater
Final thoughts: (Not a bad project and kinda fun also TL;DR)
TL;DR bought a $30 ukulele put in $10 in materials and 2-3 hours of my time to make it a $45 instrument. Overall happy but if you make more than $5/hr and don't want to work on an instrument to make it playable, spend the extra $20.

2023.03.24 21:41 Remarkable_Hat_1276 Help choose between 2010 Mini convertible, 2008 Honda Accord coupe, 2004 Nissan 350z
Hi all! I'm a newcomer to this forum but have found it very valuable and insightful in my used car search, so I thought I'd ask for advice. My wife and I moved recently to santa barbara, CA from London, UK since i got a job at the university for 2 years. You need a car to enjoy this place! So i've been looking locally on craigslit and FB.
I will use the car for a year and sell next summer. We will use it on weekend roadtrips and for grocery shopping within the city. Not a commuter. Would like something a little fun to drive, but not extremely expensive to maintain. If i lose a couple of grand on the car that's fine, but not much more (like, if used cars prices come down over current prices by next summer or maintenance costs pile up if car turns out to be a lemon). Obviously running costs separate. I am also in the process of getting a US driving license so insurance costs may be higher since I don't have driver history here.
I found the following cars, but am having a hard time deciding between them.
I know I should get a pre-pruchase inspection done, check the AC, oil leaks, weird sounds when test driving etc. What else should I look for in each of these cars? Is the Mini going to break the bank in the next year? Should I risk the Honda even maintenance records aren't available, if mechanic says all looks fine? And is the Nissan the most fun car to drive on this list?
There's also a 2007 Toyota Yaris for $7500, but that's probably not as much fun to drive. Thanks for your time!

2023.03.24 21:37 GimmickNG Moving services for furniture off Kijiji/FM
I've found some (relatively) small office desks on Kijiji/Facebook Marketplace and I'd like to buy them, but I have no car and I can't drive either. What moving services would you vouch for? (I'm not sure I'll be able to carry the furniture myself either, so bonus points if they can also help with that)

2023.03.24 21:34 RedlineBMW Thinking about upgrading to the S23U, Any good phones to buy cheap for trade in or the best deals? Verizon
I'm thinking of either trading my S21 Ultra in or selling that on Facebook marketplace and buying a cheap Pixel or S10 since they are $800 trade in through Samsungs website which is the same as my S21 Ultra for trade in. Does anyone know of any better ways to do it, or any better deals to maximize my funds? Also if I do the financing either through Verizon or Samsung can I pay it off early?? It says $18 a month or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Should I even bother to upgrade is a question as well? Thanks in advance!

Does anyone have a good resource for apartment hunting on Long Island? Or know of an available one?
I've tried Zillow,

2023.03.24 20:35 boatquestion39 Question about a boat I am planning to buy
I have found a 24 foot cobra 700 for $6000 on facebook marketplace, it is very nice and has a brand new interior and a very in shape Yanmar 1GM10 diesel engine , New impeller and gasket this year. New steel fuel tank and water tank. Anchor with decent amount of chain and warp. I am just wondering if it would be possible to cross the english channel and then sail through and around the greek islands, or would the boat be at risk of capsizing or anything else?
I had a look online and this boat has a capsize rating of 2.1, how likely is this to happen? it is a twin keel and I am personally happy in such a small space as I've lived on a 25 foot canal boat before
this is the model on yachting monthly
https://www.yachtingmonthly.com/uncategorized/cobra-700-9989 Any advice is appreciated

2023.03.24 20:09 -techpriest FTA moving out of the dorms
I'm on a budget and it's pretty common here at Offutt to not get your BAH for a couple months. So far I'm just trying to make sure I have a desk to keep my important files in, mount my PC on, and a cheap mattress and frame. Going for some cheap folding chairs for now until I can accrue more comfortable furniture. Overall I'm trying to keep my purchases between 500$-800$ and scour Facebook marketplace for cheap furnishings on the side. If you guys have any other tips or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated, and I'll be sure to pass the advice along in the future.
