2023.03.25 01:43 FreshScarcity7199 Pain, trouble eating for 3 years, worsening. Weight loss. Scans keep coming back normal.
For background, I’m a 21f with POTS and Celiac disease but I’ve been gluten free for 3 years and the blood tests confirm this. Issues started with celiac but after going gluten-free, the pain never entirely abated and slowly got worse. The POTS I’ve had for 10 years and it used to be very well managed, but improper nutrition has caused it to flare out of control, so my brain fog is so bad that I can’t think to write a post like this on most days. I am doing everything to fix my health on my own (exercising as able, proper fluid and electrolyte intake, force-feeding of healthy calorie-dense foods such as rice and potatoes) but it feels useless as I am still losing weight, and I’m already pretty underweight (87 lbs currently, 5’2” in height). I might feel better for a couple weeks and gain a couple pounds back but then the abdominal problems return with seemingly no trigger. (I’m at 87 pounds after a good week).
The pain is around the bottom of my ribcage, center of my body, and throughout my stomach. This starts 15 minutes after I begin eating and can last for up to 6 hours. I can be starving yet somehow still feel full and in severe pain from my last meal. Sometimes the pain will be milder but then later wake me up in the middle of the night with severe painful bloating and acid reflux. Pain is partially relieved by lying down after eating but it can’t all be postural because it wakes me in the night despite trying many different sleep positions.
Weirder still is that so many tests have come back normal. Normal upper endoscopy and upper GI study showed no obstructions or abnormalities beside acid reflux. My stomach does hang low when I am standing (below the button of my pants) and appears to be enlarged but with no visible cause. Gastric emptying study came back inconclusive (exactly 10% remaining after 4 hours) and live scan showed stomach movement, ruling out gastroparesis. HIDA scan was normal. I have unpredictable bowel habits that are constantly changing, but trying antibiotics wrecked my gut and left me with diarrhea for 2 months. Recent CBC shows low red blood cell and hemoglobin levels, so I have since begun supplementing with prenatal vitamins (I’m not pregnant btw) which have helped me have a bit more energy.
It’s hard to tell what other symptoms I have that are connected to this because my POTS causes a lot of issues including brain fog, heart rate and blood pressure abnormalities, dizziness, etc. But some of the other issues I have had primarily after the gut issues began 3 years ago include nasal congestion, recurring low grade fever, heat rashes and facial flushing, throat discomfort, and minor bladder issues. I can’t tell you what might be connected but I’m listing everything.
My current medications are Propranolol and Fludrocortisone (for the POTS) and Nortriptyline and Gabapentin (for the gut pain. But I’m slowly getting off the Gabapentin because it stopped helping).
Any input of any form is very greatly appreciated. I’ve already been dropped by multiple physicians because they couldn’t help me and I don’t know where to go from here.

(24m) I've noticed that I'm having trouble holding in pee I haven't wet myself but my main concern is I've passed stool involuntary while peeing standing up. It never reaches my clothes but I still have to clean myself up.
I have a small list of medical problems. Main one is autism and I've also lost a lot of weight recently. I'm still overweight but I'm a lot fitter in general. I've also had meningitis in the past but it was a long time ago.
I gained weight because I used food for comfort but I was still active up until I started suffering from back pain. It got so bad I was practically housebound and that made me gather weight I was quite obese. I've lost a lot of that now and the pain has mostly subsided and I can walk normally again now.
I'm concerned about the back pain because it runs in my family and I'm having similar symptoms to my mother who has fibromyalgia
My weight loss began when I started smoking a year and a half ago I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a slight dependency on weed and nicotine. I'm on about a gram a day and about 15 cigs a day
I have been to the docs recently because I also have general issues with my stomach and back passage I never said anything about my issues while peeing and I didn't go into detail about my back problems. Just talked about my weight and diet.

2023.03.25 01:24 slayme88 Losing My Father.
Writing this on mobile from a a palliative suite at a local hospital, sitting in a comfy chair listening to the labored breathing of my 67 yr old father.
He'd fought tonsil cancer some years ago and endured a pretty extreme surgery, radiation and recovery. 5 years later his PET scan showed he was still cancer free.
At Christmas just a few months ago, his weight loss was noticeable, as well as an unusual-for-him propensity for extended naps on the couch. In early January we found out it was cancer in his ribs and spine. Further testing through lymph node biopsy revealed it as B Cell Lymphoma, and its everywhere.
So he's been in the palliative suite since early Feb and has been fighting to regain strength to be eligible for chemo or treatments. Alas, it's looking like a losing effort, he's a fraction of his former self, unable to stand anymore, let alone walk into the cancer treatment center. The chemo itself would likely kill him.
Now he's asking about MAID (medical assistance in death) as the hope is gone and the pain is agonizing. There's nothing left to do but sit at his bedside, hold his hand, and tell him what a great dad, grandfather and great-grandfather he's been.
These are our last days together for our family as we know it and this has all happened at an astonishing pace. Please pray for him.

2023.03.25 01:20 Complex_Amount_7652 Any advice or anything please
Hello all. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 18 after finding out I had a huge 30cm 10L ovarian cyst, needless to say I had to have the cyst, one of my ovaries and one of my tubes removed. Leading up to this, my periods were very regular, No pcos suspicion but since then I’ve only had a few periods and haven’t had one at all for 15 months. Is it possible that I’m still ovulating but having no periods and what should I do? My doctor just keeps recommending weight loss which I am struggling with and financially I’m not doing amazing right now so if anyone has any advice please do share it.
I’ve also been told that the lining of my uterus isn’t thick, is this a good thing and is there a chance I’m infertile? Sorry for all the questions it’s just that my GP seems to not really care.

2023.03.25 01:11 Crafty_Jellyfish5635 Weight loss to shrink waist
I know the answer to this. I’m probably just looking for reassurance that I’m right and I need to just come to terms with my body. Through my teens and twenties I was an hourglass body shape. My weight fluctuated from healthy BMI to slightly overweight, but the distribution kept me the same hourglass shape.
Then I had two babies in quick succession (17 months), got into distance running, lost the baby weight and more, and also lost my waist.
It’s been years and years and the kids are growing and I’m slim and fit and clothes don’t fit me and I’m so frustrated. In my favourite brand I measure xs bust (though I wear a d cup bra) m waist, and smaller than xxs hips. I carry most of the fat in my body on my thighs, as well as having the leg muscles that all the running brings, so low rise pants aren’t a help (other than being mutton dressed as lamb anyway).
I’m wondering if I should try to lose more weight, or if I’m just going to end up hungry and still as frustrated with my body shape as I ever have been. I tell myself I can’t lose weight in certain areas and not others, but I can’t help just wishing I targeted weight loss was a thing.

2023.03.25 01:11 sanatan_bharat Pre employment drug test
Hey guys, I have a pre employment drug test coming up in 3 weeks. Been clean for the past 3weeks (since Mar 1st) though I was heavy smoker for a month (Feb). I was testing positive or with very slight faint line(borderline negative) over the last week.
Meanwhile, I did a 7 day juice fast and lost 10lbs. I am 510` and 233 (post weight loss due to fast), so still at obese with not so great metabolism...
I was panicking since yesterday, so went to an actual lab to take a test myself before my pre employment drug test.. Tested positive on rapid but then today received email from confirmation test saying I was negative for 15 ng/ml as well... seems so weird to me..
Thoughts/comments? I just bought Quickfix to be prepared for the worst. And plan to do another juice fast for couple weeks.. just fyi..

2023.03.25 01:03 ttgf102 Cat allergies won’t get better
First off, all required info: Cat, 4-5 years old, spayed female, domestic short hair, about 13 pounds (she’s a bit chunky but we’re working on it), Virginia, US
Alright so background and signs and everything will be in this next block of text. Sorry for bad formatting on mobile yadda yadda.
In July of 2022, I got my sweet grumpy lady Betty White from the shelter. She had no hair on her stomach and just looked… rough. She had been surrendered by her last owner with two other cats but the only thing they knew (they didn’t even know her name) was that she didn’t like other cats at all. When I first got her, she let me do whatever to her. I cut her nails, gave her a bath, etc. first vet visit after getting her, she was prescribed daily allergy pills for her scratching, itching, and over grooming. As well as the overgrooming on the stomach, she would bite and scratch wounds onto herself. She took these pills like a champ, let me do it every day for about 4 weeks and there was no change. Because of personal reasons I had to move and went to a new doctor who said maybe it’s a food allergy. Went on a specific veterinary diet, gave her some steroid shots to calm it all down (which worked!) and then slowly reintroduced other foods. Turned out it was chicken (big sad for her she loves chicken). Every now and then she gets into my family dog’s food or something but overall does well. However, she has recently been having a flare up that has lasted longer than usual and I can’t seem to get anything to help her. The doctor is worried about her weight and the amount of steroid shots she’s had recently, as well as she was attacked by another cat in December and since then hasn’t been as trusting (I’m trying to gain it back). I’ve tried giving her a few mL of liquid Benadryl to help but it doesn’t really touch it. The vet was also concerned it may be OCD or anxiety that causes her to do this because she also “barbers” her hair, but isn’t sure because of the allergy also going on.
Guess I’m mostly asking is it better to try to fight for more steroid shots until this flare up is under control or should I take a closer look at OCD or honestly I’m just at a loss. Anything helps really. Thanks

2023.03.25 01:02 Icy-Bowl-8103 Normal for Weight Loss to Stagnate?
I’m new to Mounjaro. Just took my 4th shot of 2.5mg yesterday.
The first 10 days were miraculous. Wasn’t hungry ever. Lost 9.4 pounds
Now I’m on day 22 and have been stagnant. I’m fact, I gained back 1 pound. So now total loss is 8.4 pounds.
Is this normal? Feeling somewhat bummed at stagnation and losing hope.
Any advise from people here on your first month and if you ever experienced stagnation? What got you passed that?

2023.03.25 00:57 _thewildwest Lexapro and binge eating disorder??
I just recently started taking lexapro (currently taking 5mg but supposed to go up to 20mg) and I’m really nervous about potential weight gain from this medication. Initially I was on Mirtazapine as my doctor was concerned about the weight loss I experienced due to anxiety/stress/depression (roughly 25lbs in 2 months) but she failed to inform me that taking Mirt can cause your appetite to come back with a vengeance and the violent carb cravings. In the 2 months I was taking it I gained 35lbs and was so friggen miserable. We’ve now switched medications to Lexapro but I’m extremely concerned that I may gain even more weight on this medication.
I’m now painfully hyper aware of all my food consumption and eating habits and while I’m making health conscious food decisions I’m looking to hear from others who may also have binge eating disorder and take Lexapro

2023.03.25 00:52 snailstars Heavy binge messed up my body
Hello!! I wanna start this by saying that I’ve been heavily restricting since December with verrrrry minimal binges here and there and I’ve lost a substantial amount of weight. I know that restriction isn’t great and leads to binges in the long run, but I thought I was doing pretty okay overall. I began to like how my body looked and my stomach appeared a lot flatter (which was one of the main motivations behind my weight loss) I had almost no bloating. However, last weekend I heavily binged 3 days in a row- and most of it was super processed and crappy food. I still feel lethargic, gross, and heavy even though it’s been like…basically a week since the binge happened. It wont go away no matter how “clean” I’m eating right now. When I look in the mirror I AM bloated. My limbs still look relatively thin but I literally look pregnant and it’s distressing me a lot because I feel like I ruined my body and I’m scared it won’t go back to how it used to. It looked a lot more proportionate and balanced so to speak My waist was a lot more pronounced, for example. I want to mention that I’ve always held a bit more weight in my stomach but as I began to lose the weight…my body looked a lot more balanced compared to how it was/is right now post binge. Is this possible? Is it permanent? Has it happened to anyone else?

2023.03.25 00:52 rosebyanyothername1 PCP not responding quickly enough to liver disease, should my husband look for another one?
Trying to get a feel for whether this doctor is competent or if we should look around.
My husband's PCP was not concerned when his bilirubin got to 2.2 last July (normal is <1.2), despite his telling her he had a past history of drinking a lot. She just advised him to take barley grass supplement. She acted like the high bilirubin might be nothing. It was actually likely a sign of liver disease.
The bilirubin got even higher (3.6) last month, and my husband began having symptoms/results of decompensated cirrhosis (spider angiomas, broken blood vessels, extreme sleep disturbances, muscle loss, weight loss, mild jaundice, high fructosamine, high creatinine, liver pain, bad breath, wide-ranging symptoms). We figured out the likely cause in part with help from a doc on this sub, and he started asking his PCP to look at his photos of his symptoms (she was on vacation out of the country) and order a FibroScan ASAP.
It's been two weeks, and she has still not responded to the photos or successfully ordered the FibroScan at the hospital (hasn't filled out the insurance pre-approval form). She first just gave us like a prescription pad note that said "Fibroscan" on it and wanted him to take that to the hospital but the hospital said that was not their protocol. So I've been hand-holding her receptionist through every step of ordering a scan at a hospital. She still has not completed her forms to submit for insurance preapproval. He is seeing her for an appt next week, but his previous physical symptoms have cleared up being back on coffee and using some other things for his liver, so she really needs to be willing to consider those photos as evidence.
The doc ordered some blood tests but did not include INR (important test for liver disease), so he had to remind her to add that.
My husband's trying to get referred to a liver department out-of-state that could actually help handle his case properly (and get him a FibroScan and/or MRE ASAP to get clear on his level of disease and/or prognosis), but I'm concerned this doc might even make that difficult by not portraying his case with enough urgency in her clinical note for the referral (these clinics don't take everyone, you need to get accepted).
Is this par for the course for a non-specialist (maybe I'm being too unrealistic), or do you think we can do better? We have a few other PCPs/internists in town (Las Vegas) to consider.
The pros are she's close to our house and we like the lab she's contracted with for affordable lab tests (she does DPC model).
Sorry if this is a weird question for this sub -- just trying to gauge whether it's like this with most non-specialists or if it's worth switching doctors over.
