2023.04.01 11:17 infinitemuugen Pre-2023 Wise USD Account to Philippine Banks/GCash

Hi!
I'm new to freelancing and was recently hired through OLJ, so my employer is paying me through Payoneer as this was the platform recommended through OLJ.
I just received my first payment and noticed that Payoneer has a very low exchange rate (USD) and has a number of transaction fees.
I remembered using Wise early in 2022 and already had a USD account in the platform. My last transactions in the app went like this: Received payment in USD Account -> Transferred the USD to the Peso Account (Was automatically converted based on the exchange rate) -> Transferred to my Bank (GCash).
I read in the subreddit that some people can't open USD accounts anymore because apparently, Wise Pilipinas is the one handling the transactions here. I also read a comment stating na this new policy/terms is only applicable to accounts before 202x/3 as the accounts opened before that date will be under the Wise UK's terms and conditions, I looked at their support page and it states that "If you're in the Philippines, you can't open USD/ And Philippines has its own terms and conditions"
So my question is, is my USD account in Wise still good to be used despite these changes? My USD account is complete with ACH and Wire routing numbers. My employer would also pay less in fees when sending me my payments. Are there people in the same situation that can share their experiences?
Feel ko kasi ang bigat ng kaltas ng payoneer. I hope you guys can help. Thanks!

2023.04.01 09:47 Interfan14 Repost: Alternate reality Civil War

Note this is a repost and not my story but I found it online and thought it would be interesting to get your guys perspectives.
My Experience in a Seemingly Alternate Reality. Screenshots Provided
The concept of a parallel universe, a world similar to our own but differing slightly, perhaps possessing a subtle divergence in history, has always been a prevalent theme in literature. Several individuals have even claimed to have visited alternate realities, experiencing a slightly different, possibly darker, version of the world we know. The vast majority of these people are certainly crackpots, or cranks desiring attention. Nonetheless, a small percentage of these claims are difficult to dismiss, and lead me to significant doubt about the true nature of the world. A couple months ago, I think that I actually experienced, briefly, life in an alternate timeline. From what I can see, this subreddit might be open to stories beyond the ordinary, and I at least hope that you take the time to consider my account.
On June 28, 2014, my morning was the same as any other day. I woke up, brushed my teeth, ate breakfast, got in the car to go to work. I was confused, however, after I switched on the radio. I usually listen to music on my morning drive, but the station was playing some sort of news talk show. The host was exuberantly referencing our "victory in the Great War", as he praised troops and the armed forces. At first, I thought that he was discussing the recent end to the War in Afghanistan, as our combat troops were withdrawing at the time. I was confused, however, when he started discussing the conclusion of our "victory in Italy", and how the "second Great Depression will come to an end as our victory is secured". I assumed that this was some strange sci-fi or fictional program, and largely forgot about it. At my lunch break at work, however, I overheard my office co-workers talking about our "victory in Italy" and how "unity" will be preserved. For some reason, they kept mentioning the numbers 33-13. I asked them what the hell they were discussing, but they told me that my ignorance was "disrespectful towards the troops". It was then that I noticed that one of my fellow co-workers, Sam, was not present; when I asked if he was sick, nobody knew who he was. Strange.
On the way home, I took a different route (through the city) to avoid traffic. Numerous "victory" banners were hanging on the walls of buildings, showing images of American marines braving some foreign beach. I couldn't help noticing that the city looked far poorer than I remembered, and many buildings were abandoned and crumbling. In my apartment, I turned on CNN, just to understand what was going on. The hosts discussed how "Italian logistical targets were decisively defeated with little civilian casualty" and that the "insurgency in Greece and Ireland is drawing down with every passing day". The experience was so unexpected, so bizarre, that I can still remember the words of the newscasters vividly.
I decided to peruse Wikipedia, as I knew that the site would at least give an overview of the "war". As I read the page, I grew increasingly confused and bewildered. The Greek debt crisis had exponentially increased in intensity; there was a string of defaults across Europe, and the Eurozone collapsed into civil war. The United States was in a worse depression than the 1930s, as global finance collapsed, and the war bankrupted our economy further. Ireland and Greece were occupied by "coalition" forces, and there was a violent nationalist insurgency in both countries. I decided that I must be dreaming; to test whether this was really happening, I took screenshots of the pages on my phone. Sure enough, after I woke up, the pictures were still there:
http://m.imgur.com/a/8mzIh
After this experience, I examined the possibility of parallel universes. According to the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, each event leads to a divergence of timelines, with a different outcome corresponding to a different reality. It seems that somehow, somewhere, our universe diverged, and a different, darker timeline formed.

2023.04.01 09:46 BeLikeMeltingSnow Eating yeast extract aggravates my fungal acne.

*** IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO CONTENT ABOUT RESTRICTIVE EATING, PLEASE DON'T READ THIS**
I've dealt with FA for over 10 years. Only know what it is for 1 now. My regular acne was always diet/allergy related and vanished when i found out i'm lactose intolerant and stopped eating dairy. Therefore, when this popped up my first instinct was to inspect my eating habits. I was able to clear my FA with just altering my diet for a few weeks, even when i didn't know what it was at the time.
*** THE INTERESTING PART: ***** The number one thing that causes flare ups for me is eating YEAST EXTRACT. I found out because i ate yeast extract on a sandwich at someone else's place twice, which i normally never do. Both times, the next day my whole face was covered in tiny whiteheads, even though it had been under control the previous day.
It is in a lot of products, like processed meat and many snacks. MARMITE is the worst. I also stopped using vinegar for a while and replaced it by lemon juice. A little bit really isn't that big of a deal, but please PLEASE don't slather it on a sandwich. (Looking at you there, in the UK).
I know the 'eating route' isn't for everyone and that's oké, there are many other ways to combat this. In truth, diet alone never makes it permanently go away because it comes back as soon as i reintroduce certain foods. It is a very constricting type of diet that i don't consider doable or healthy long term, so i haven't shared it yet. But this is such a major trigger that it is worth sharing on its own. I'm still working on how to combat it holistically from the inside and outside, as ketoconazole doesn't work for me anymore. When i do i'll make another post.

2023.04.01 09:15 sugamintss [Uni] What are my chances of getting into Digipen Digital Art and Animation/NTU ADM?

Some context about myself:
I'm currently a y3 graphic design/visual comms student in poly set to graduate the next year 2024 and I am really worried about my academic path in the future. I'm hoping to change from doing graphic design to moving into the game industry next year.
I am really worried about my chances of getting into either one of these unis because I know that SG isn't exactly the hub for games and aspiring game devs yet and i only have these two courses that I'm genuinely interested in.
The factor i'm worried about the most is that especially for Digipen, the only common factor between my diploma and the route i'm aiming for is that they are both in the arts industry, and that's pretty much it i think? So i'm really worried that i won't meet the standards of admission, especially when I am competing against a good number of people who did animation/games in poly.
my current gpa is 3.50 and i do have some academic achievements (not sure if that even affects my chances??), but my portfolio is really graphic design-centric.
I would really appreciate any advice from current Digipen BFA in Animation and NTU ADM ppl on what I should prepare and what my chances are. Thank you!

2023.04.01 09:08 BlueFishcake Sexy Space Babes - The Video Game

The gas giant loomed large in the viewport, ballooning as the ship coasted toward it, the colorful blue hues of its swirling bands reflecting the glow of the system’s star.
Darren could make out the bright, scarred surface of an ice moon drifting lazily past, framed against the rivers of flowing hydrogen and helium. Silhouetted against the Jupiter-mass object was their destination – Halfpoint Station.
Having come from Earth, which was still a backwater when compared to many of the Imperium’s more developed worlds, the sheer size and grandeur of the structure took his breath away.
It was hard to gauge its true scale in the vacuum of space where there was no atmospheric haze, and there were no landmarks for reference, the unfiltered light creating harsh shadows. As they drew nearer, however, he was able to pick out some of the massive fuel tankers that swarmed its ports like clouds of gnats.
Those vessels put anything created by Humanity to shame – their purpose being to dip into the upper atmosphere of the gas giant, harvesting its resources to fuel the ships that made their berth here.
Calling it enormous was an understatement. It must have been nine miles tall, the main hull of the station forming a long, relatively thin vertical shaft. Surrounding that shaft were half a dozen rotating rings, each one connected to the central column by spokes, the pinpoints of innumerable windows glinting as they slowly turned.
At its apex was a dome of immense proportions, sitting proudly atop the structure, the crystalline material that made up its transparent hull glittering in the starlight. Inside, he could make out glimpses of regal skyscrapers and patches of parkland – an entire city encapsulated in a habitat that had a breathtaking view of the planet.
Darren pursed his lips as he looked down at the device on his wrist, the tiny display showing the familiar text of an article he must have read at least a dozen times by this point.
Halfpoint Station was situated on the outskirts of the Imperium’s sphere of influence, a region of space known only as the Periphery. This put it soundly outside of Purp jurisdiction, but the place still saw a lot of traffic, as the station was right in the middle of a relatively well-traveled shipping route between the three big powers.
While it had started its life as little more than a place to fuel up and get resupplied, being located outside any of the major spheres of influence had its benefits, and the station had garnered a bit of a reputation for its more permissive policies. Now, it was said to be populated by hired guns, smugglers, gamblers, and anyone else who might appreciate discretion.
The Human frowned as he looked out the window once more and tried to reconcile the gleaming edifice before him with the dark reputation the article in his hands presented.
He didn’t have long to dwell on it before the pilot’s crackly voice came through a hidden intercom in the cabin, informing the passengers that they were commencing docking procedures.
The woman spoke in accented Shil. What that accent was, Darren had no clue, but he knew it wasn’t the same one spoken by his professors – linguistic or mechanical.
He glanced around at his fellow travelers, seeing a few species that he didn’t recognize, along with the more familiar Shil’vati. The aliens were easily identifiable by the purple hue of their skin, their sharp tusks, and their seven-foot height.
Several of them returned his gaze, some curious, some covetous.
Males were rare in the Imperium.
Hell, males were rare, period.
By the standards of most races out in the galaxy, Humanity were the strange ones for having an equal number of men and women. Even six years into the occupation, most were still struggling to adapt to the new paradigm brought on by that reality.
Darren was no exception.
Still, he managed to ignore the stares, turning his attention to the smart display on his wrist, bringing up his itinerary. He was headed to Hab-Ring Five, and the only information that he’d been given beyond that were some coordinates to who-knew-where.
He sighed, wishing – not for the first time – that he might have a fellow first timer to converse with.
Unfortunately, that was a pipe dream.
The lack of other Humans on his ship wasn’t surprising. The Imperium had only recently relaxed enough to begin authorizing travel visas allowing Humans to leave Earth, and his kind were still a rarity on the Galactic stage.
As to why he was out here out in the ass end of space?
He’d been offered a job.
He was an engineer by trade, at least according to his degree, and he specialized in the combination of alien and Human technology. It might seem like an oddly specific skillset, but it was one that was in high demand, as just about every industry on Earth was trying to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Imperium’s literal space-age technology.
It was complicated work, but he was quite good at it, if he said so himself – and his professors seemed to agree. His gift had catapulted him through university and had apparently landed him a very lucrative offer to take up a position on Halfpoint.
How they’d heard of him, he wasn’t too sure. Nor did he truthfully know exactly what the job entailed. Apparently, he was to be briefed on-location.
Regardless, off-world work was a rare opportunity for any Human, let alone one fresh out of school, and visiting an alien space station was a lot more interesting than backpacking around Europe for a year.
Whatever happened, it was going to be an adventure.
The ship matched velocity with one of the rotating rings, the structure at least half a mile tall in its own right, covered in tiny windows that made it look like a whole city block had been condensed down into the shape of a donut.
Now that he was a little closer, Darren could see that the station was actually far from pristine. Its hull was pocked with haphazard repairs, the newer sections shining brighter than their older counterparts, its armored panels pitted with little craters from space debris and micro-meteorite impacts.
The ship lined up with a docking port, and an umbilical walkway began to extrude from the ring, reaching out towards them. It looked like the jib of a crane, covered over with a flexible material that bore a suspicious resemblance to a grey tarp.
Surely it wasn’t actually a tarp? No, it had to be some kind of alien supertech – too advanced for him to recognize at a glance.
Right?
His thoughts did little to reassure him as the umbilical connected to the shuttle’s airlock with a tangible thud.
Shaking his head, he retrieved his travel bag, then made his way down the aisle to join the queue of passengers who were waiting to disembark. More of them crammed in behind him, and he tried to ignore their uncomfortable proximity.
He hadn’t actually spent a lot of time around aliens during his schooling. One of his professors had been a Shil, but she had been professional to a fault and had always kept a healthy distance from her students.
Of course, she had still managed to be rather intimidating despite that, her head seeming to scrape the ceiling every time she stepped into the classroom. However, Darren was rapidly discovering that being surrounded by women who stood head and shoulders above him was a different experience altogether.
It was nothing to get worked up over, though. He just needed to-
The Shil standing behind him pressed close – uncomfortably close – Darren swearing that there was room enough in the aisle for her to keep her distance. Suddenly, he felt a sharp twinge in his rear.
Had she just...pinched him? No, it had to have been a mistake.
He turned to glance over his shoulder, looking up at the towering Purp. “Sorry, Ma’am, I must have bumped into you.”
Her sly smile faded as she furrowed her brow in confusion. Before she had time to formulate a reply, the intercom above the exit beeped.
“Oh, looks like we’re moving again!” Darren chimed as he began to follow the queue. “Sorry!”
He followed the procession of towering women into the passenger ship’s airlock. Both of the pressurized doors were open, and before him stretched the umbilical. The worryingly thin material that protected them from the deadly vacuum of space was wrapped taut around a metal frame, and the walkway beneath his feet was made up of a simple grate.
After a short walk, they emerged into a cavernous dock area, so large that it was more like standing in some kind of indoor stadium than anything that could be compared to a space station. There were stacks of shipping containers and unidentifiable machinery everywhere he looked.
It was a challenge not to stop and examine the equipment, each new sight piquing his interest, each strange device begging to be investigated. As he followed the other passengers to the far end of the room – his head on a swivel – he almost bumped into one of the containers. To his surprise, it was floating a foot off the ground, suspended on an anti-gravity cushion.
It was funny – no matter how many times he saw it, it never stopped being surreal to see something just…float.
As he stooped to look beneath it, an irritated dockworker leaned out from behind it to yell at whoever was in her way. She stopped when she saw him, raising a skeptical eyebrow. She was a Rakiri, if Darren remembered correctly. She resembled a towering werewolf, a pair of cat-like eyes peering out from beneath her black fur, her facial features strangely leonine. She was clad in dirty, yellow coveralls that hung loosely from her broad shoulders, exposing the ragged tank top that she wore beneath it. Tufts of her dark coat poked out around the faded garment, giving her a surprisingly fluffy appearance.
“You lost, boy?” she asked as she shooed him out of her path. “Stay behind the yellow warning markings unless you want to get that cute butt smushed,” she added with a nod toward the deck. She continued to push her heavy container, moving it effortlessly on its gravity cushion.
More dock workers were assembling to stare at him, perhaps having never seen a Human before. Or perhaps it was because he was male? It was hard to tell. Either way, a small crowd of yellow-clad women saw him off, a couple of them hooting at him and waving. Not sure if this was some kind of alien greeting, he shyly waved back, eliciting laughter from them after a moment of surprise.
One started to make her way over to him before a menacing growl from her superior made her freeze in place sheepishly. Darren took that as his cue to move on – he didn’t want to get anyone else in trouble by being in the way.
He arrived at a security gate, and after being asked to show his visa, he was subjected to a very thorough – and in his opinion unnecessary – pat-down. Once he was cleared, he emerged into the station proper. He stepped out of the way of the women behind him, then set his travel bag down on the metal deck, taking in the alien sights and sounds for a moment.
Far from being a sterile, clinical environment, he found himself in a bustling bazaar worthy of any city back on Earth. It scarcely felt like he was standing inside a station at all, what passed for the ceiling so high above his head that he could barely make out the crisscrossing support beams and maintenance catwalks.
It was styled like a cramped street, too small for cars, almost like the city center of some old European town had been reimagined in an industrial style. Civilian quarters that resembled apartment blocks rose up towards the ceiling, connecting to it in some places, likely leading up to higher levels of the station.
In every nook and cranny – anywhere there was room – the denizens of the hab-ring had set up little stalls where they were hawking their wares to the tourists who had just boarded. Colorful awnings fluttered in the artificial breeze from the air recyclers, and insulated cables that had been patched from the station’s systems trailed along walls and floors, powering streetside food stands and colorful neon signs.
Speaking of the denizens, they came in all shapes and sizes. Darren had never seen so many varieties of alien in one place before. He could make out a few Shil and Rakiri, but most were unknown to him, the varied hues of their skin and clothes creating a bustling sea of color.
He checked the device on his wrist again, pulling up the coordinates that his new employer had forwarded to him. This was indeed Hab-Ring Five, and he’d been given what passed for an address in this strange environment. Hefting his bag once more, he made his way into the throng, having to dodge and weave between the towering aliens. Many of them barely seemed to register his presence, probably due to his comparatively small stature, though some seemed to stop and stare in confusion.
Well, I suppose Humans are pretty new on the galactic scene, he thought to himself.
The scents of strange, alien food assailed him as he navigated the cramped streets, a few of the criers singling him out. They had sharp instincts, he’d give them that. It seemed the locals could smell a tourist at thirty paces.
Maybe it was all the staring he was doing?
Eventually, he arrived at his destination, glancing up from his display to see a dingy bar. It was open to the street, built into an overhang at the base of one of the many buildings, little more than a long counter with a few stools. Above it was a blinking neon sign in a script that he couldn’t read. As he made his way inside and struggled up onto one of the tall stools, the small handful of patrons who were sitting off to his left paused their conversation to examine him.
They were Nighkru, their goat-like horns and the bruise-purple hue of their skin giving them away. Their silver eyes were striking, almost seeming to glow in the dim light of the bar, as reflective as those of a cat. Their clothing was all tight leather and straps, their skin strategically exposed in places to show off their stunning bioluminescent tattoos, the swirling patterns trailing down slender limbs and across toned midriffs.
He kept his gaze aimed forward, knowing that their kind didn’t think much of the Imperium to which he now belonged.
…Then again, that was true for pretty much every race that wasn’t a part of the massive interstellar empire. Say what you would about the Purps, but they knew how to make an impression.
The bartender walked over to him, leaning on the counter as she looked him up and down skeptically. It was another Rakiri like the dockworkers, her feline nose twitching as she took in his scent.
“You lost, or do you want something to drink?” she asked.
“No thank you, I’m waiting for someone,” he replied sheepishly as he lowered his eyes to his device again.
He was right on time, but as he looked around, there was no sign of his contact. He was supposed to meet them here, right?
The Rakiri shrugged her furry shoulders, then left him to his own devices, moving over to the small group of Nighkru.
Perhaps one of them was his contact?
He certainly hoped not. While he didn’t have anything against a person enjoying themselves with a good drink after hours, it wasn’t a good way to make a positive first impression on a prospective employee.
Fortunately for him, the surprise on one of the trio’s grey skinned faces when she happened to blearily peer in his direction dashed that possibility. Just a trio of young women out for a drink.
Unfortunately for him, after a few hastily whispered words to her friends, the group made their way over to him.
“Don’t see many males round these parts,” one of them said, her faux leather getup creaking as she planted her hands on the bar to his left. Another leaned on the counter to his right, the third posting up behind him.
“A Human, too,” the woman to his right added with a sly chuckle. “Now, what’s a Human doing all alone out on the Periphery?”
“I didn’t think the Purps were letting their pets off the leash.” the one behind him snickered.
“I don’t know,” the first said with an exaggerated shrug. “Maybe he snuck out in search of a real woman? I think we’ve all heard how Humans can be.”
That set the three of them laughing.
All the while, Darren wasn’t sure where to look, turning his head left and right as he struggled to pick a Nighkru. He settled on the woman to his left, having to lift his head to meet her gaze, those reflective eyes shining like a pair of silver coins.
“I...uh...was actually supposed to be meeting someone here.” he stammered, a little of his anxiety bleeding through.
The Nighkru gave him a warm smile that wasn’t reflected in her eyes, leaning a little closer. He tried to pull away reflexively but found another Nighkru waiting for him, something rather soft pressing against his back.
“Well, I don’t see anyone else in here but me and my friends,” one of them said as she tutted dramatically. “Maybe they stood you up?”
“Poor form, that,” the one behind him whispered into his ear. He lurched in his seat, surprised by her proximity. “Leaving a pretty young thing like you hanging.”
The first one nodded, as if that was a piece of sagely wisdom. “I know – how about my friends and I give you a personal tour of the station to make up for it?” she asked, reaching out to brush a piece of errant fluff from his collar. “We’ll even carry your luggage for you – we’re nice like that.”
She signaled to one of her compatriots with a curt nod, who then plucked his travel bag off the deck.
“Oh, that’s really not-”
He tried to stand, but he was cut off as two of the women placed their hands on his shoulders, pushing him back down into his seat. Their touch was gentle, but firm, letting him know that he wasn't going anywhere.
Darren looked to the Rakiri bartender for help, feeling more than a little overwhelmed by the turn of events, but she was staying out of it. She was feigning disinterest, cleaning a glass with a rag that didn’t look clean enough for the job.
It was clear that he wouldn’t be getting any help from her.
Was this really going to be his first experience on the station – kidnapped by a gang of alien grifters?
Just as he was getting ready to – likely ineffectually – start swinging like his life depended on it, he heard a voice ring out in a language he didn’t recognize.
The Nighkru turned their heads as one, and he followed their gaze, seeing another of their kind step in from the street. Her skin had the same twilight hue, her silvery hair pulled back into a long ponytail that trailed behind her as she strode towards them. She wore a jet-black body suit that left little to the imagination, so tight that it might have been sewn onto her, the garment open at the front to expose a chiseled midriff and the beginnings of her cleavage. Her eyes were mesmerizing, his gaze drawn to the glowing tattoos that served to accentuate them.
Oddly, unlike the trio surrounding him, she had no horns.
The stranger walked with purpose, her heels clicking on the deck, her hair swishing behind her as she came to a stop to stare down the three other women. They were already backing off, the Nighkru who had taken his bag setting it back down gingerly beside his seat. Did they know this person? They seemed so wary of her.
“Maybe we’ll see you around,” one of them whispered, her hand lingering on his shoulder for a moment before she followed her friends out into the street.
Once they were finally out of sight, Darren breathed a sigh of relief and turned to thank the newcomer. Before he could utter so much as a word, she beat him to the punch.
“You shouldn’t wander around Halfpoint alone,” she said, skipping the preamble. Her voice had a melodic tone, one that was almost musical to Darren’s ears. She planted her hands on her hips, scrutinizing him with a skeptical expression. “You’re just asking for trouble.”
“I’m just...waiting for someone,” he replied. “Thank you, by the way. I’m-”
“Do you have a weapon on you?” she asked, cutting him off. “A handgun under that jacket? Defense spray? A pocket knife?”
“What? No,” he replied, his brow furrowing. “Why would I have a gun?”
Even with a few inches of titanium-alloy plating between everyone aboard and a messy death by explosive decompression, using a firearm on the station seemed risky.
She snorted derisively, almost as though she couldn’t believe his reply.
“For your sake, I hope that whoever you’re waiting for is smarter than you are,” she said with a roll of her silver eyes. “This isn’t Earth, boy. There are no Shil Marines around to babysit you. Next time you want to play tourist, go somewhere closer to home.”
With a flick of her long hair, she turned about, vanishing into the crowd once more to leave him sitting at the bar in confusion.
Darren felt another hand on his shoulder and turned to see an Edixi wearing grease-stained overalls standing behind him. The tool belt that hung loosely about her hips let him know that she was a mechanic before she’d even had time to open her mouth.
Her kind were evolved for an aquatic environment, and although they were fully amphibious, they retained many of their ancient features. Their bodies were smooth and streamlined, with lean, lightly-muscled frames that made them look like Olympic swimmers. Her eyes were a striking ocean-green, and her azure skin was patterned with faded tiger stripes, darkening as it neared her extremities.
“You’re the new engineer, right?” she chirped excitedly.
“Darren Fogle, pleased to meet you,” he confirmed as he extended a hand. She took it, shaking it eagerly, and he noted that her fingers were webbed.
He was a little surprised by how smooth her skin was. Given the sharklike appearance of the Edixi – and her vocation – he’d expected it to be rough and scaly. Maybe cold and slimy, too. By contrast, it was warm and soft, her small scales smooth like a snake’s rather than sharp like those of a fish.
Odd.
“Oh, it is. It very much is. The boss told me to fetch you,” she said before turning back towards the street. “Don’t get lost, you hear? There are some rough types around these parts.”
Yes, she could say that again. He stooped to pick up his bag, then hurried after her, trying not to lose sight of her in the crowd. He also belatedly realized that she hadn’t told him her own name.
Was that an Edixi thing or was she just in a hurry?
The mechanic led him through the streets, which seemed to be arranged in a kind of grid pattern, always flanked by the towering hab-blocks. It was as challenging as ever to navigate when so many of the station’s inhabitants stood a head taller than him. It made him feel like a bug that was trying to avoid being stepped on.
He could only assume he’d get used to it. His guide seemed to have no problem getting around, and she was a few inches shorter than him.
Their destination was some kind of service elevator – a large platform that seemed designed to carry heavy cargo up from the docks, wide enough that a couple of trucks could have parked on it side by side. There were still a few cargo containers stacked off to one side that hadn’t been unloaded yet.
He watched as the woman hit a touch panel beside the double doors, and they began to slide shut, the platform lurching as Darren felt it start to rise. There was no grinding of machinery, no vibrations, only a sensation of getting heavier. It was obviously gravity-manipulation tech. It wasn’t too surprising – the Shil seemed to use it for just about everything, so it wasn’t too strange that the rest of the universe did as well.
Convergent technological development, he could almost imagine his Shil instructor saying as they started to descend. Good tech is good tech.
The hab-ring’s many levels flashed by one by one, until finally, the elevator slid to a smooth stop. Darren followed the happily humming mechanic out into a garage, his eyes lighting up as he took in his new surroundings.
Were those… mecha?
The bay’s walls were lined with bulky harnesses that were obviously designed to hold the machines in place, a few of the berths already occupied by half-disassembled vehicles.
They were!
“Real life mecha,” he mumbled.
As a mechanic, he wasn’t ignorant of the genre. After all, what kind of engineer didn’t hold a soft spot for giant stompy robots? Of course, as an engineer, he also held an inherent disdain for anyone that actually thought said machines were even remotely practical outside of the realm of fiction.
The Square Cube Law was a harsh mistress.
The long and short of it was that if you doubled a machine's height while keeping it the same shape, you ended up with four times the muscle power moving eight times the mass. As a result, instead of having the same relative agility as the original, the double-sized machine actually had only half.
That was why ants could lift so much relative to their weight. If you scaled one up, you’d end up with a much less impressive power to weight ration.
And, the problem only got worse the bigger you went. Giant robots would be slow, cumbersome, and they would inevitably suffer from exploding ankles if they tried to move too fast. They’d also sink in just about any terrain that was even slightly porous.
All in all, mecha were a cool concept with absolutely zero real world applications.
Which was why he was so stunned to see some in real life. Sure, the Shil military liked to use exos, but they were really just power armor by any other name with thrusters attached. Besides, the only reason those things could skip around like they did was because they had anti-grav generators…
His thoughts trailed off as an idea occurred to him. He jogged over to the nearest machine, peering up at the twenty-foot humanoid monstrosity. Its legs had been detached, leaving only a bulky torso covered in half-stripped sensory equipment, lenses and scanners visible where their protective covers had been removed. The cockpit was open, revealing the pilot’s seat, along with the surrounding neural interface cables that hung loose like the entrails of some mechanical beast. Its weapon attachments were empty, but it was nonetheless an awe-inspiring sight.
Sure enough, there were two oversized humps on the back. One was clearly for the thing’s fusion engine – and the other must have held the anti-grav generator.
“Darren?” the mechanic asked, having only just realized that he wasn’t behind her. “Aren’t you coming?”
“Y-yeah,” he said, jogging for a few paces to catch up. “That’s a mecha!”
The blue-hued alien nodded slowly. “Yes?”
“A mecha,” he reiterated.
Which prompted another slow nod. “You’ve never seen a gladiator mech before?”
“No.”
“Didn’t they tell you what job you’d be doing?” the mechanic asked, cocking her head in a rather adorable manner.
“No?” This time it was his turn to cock his head.
Several emotions seemed to fly across the alien’s face. He saw surprise, confusion, and dismay before she finally settled on irritation.
“Typical,” she grunted. “Just… follow me.”

2023.04.01 08:16 Embarrassed-Tree2882 Best VPN For Gamer In Poland

Why do gamers in Poland need the best vpn?

Gamers in Poland might use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) for several reasons, including:
  1. Reducing lag and latency: A VPN can help reduce lag and latency in online gaming by providing a faster and more stable connection. This is because a VPN can route the internet traffic through a server that is closer to the game server, reducing the distance and number of hops between the two.
  2. Protecting against DDoS attacks: Some gamers might be targeted by DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, which can disrupt their internet connection and prevent them from playing online games. By using a VPN, gamers can mask their IP address and make it harder for attackers to target them.
  3. Accessing geo-restricted games: Some online games might be restricted to certain countries or regions. By using a VPN, gamers can connect to a server in another country and access games that are not available in Poland.
  4. Protecting against hacking and cheating: Some online games might be vulnerable to hacking or cheating, which can ruin the gaming experience for everyone involved. By using a VPN, gamers can encrypt their internet traffic and make it harder for hackers or cheaters to intercept or manipulate the data.

Django x Svelte (DxSvelte) - bringing Svelte to your Django projects!

https://preview.redd.it/9lzkxtr9n7ra1.png?width=150&format=png&auto=webp&s=1db0bf4ee4ab7a16ca54d92477176b101ff7c8fc

Django x Svelte: Alpha

Brief blurb on some project background before we get to the README itself, this project is my intended entry for the Svelte Hackathon, and the TL;DR is "what if instead of picking between Django templating and SPA+DRF only to sacrifice something either way, we did... both?"
Build out your SPA as easily as you'd write out templates, and take advantage of Django's 'batteries included' philosophy while you do so.
It's still nowhere near ready for a real release, but there's enough of it operational to play around with and produce something that actually works. Which is further than where I was aiming to be at this point, so I'm happy.
GitHub NPM
Warning: This project is in early Alpha and key features are still under active development. Please note that, for the time being, you will need to delete the automatically generated tsconfig.json and dxsvelte.py files from your project's root directory. The current behaviour is to not overwrite these files.
DxSvelte is a powerful integration package that enables you to use Svelte as a front-end framework for Django web applications. With DxSvelte, you can easily build single-page applications (SPAs) that leverage the full power of both Django and Svelte, without having to worry about REST endpoints using DRF.

Milestone Release 0.0.18

  • Route Parameters: You can now use your values in DxSvelte routes - they work. Use them to customise your server-side props, and build out your individual views as before.
  • CSS Generation: CSS now builds successfully where included in the style tags, but be warned that PostCSS will still not work. For now the mixture of component styling & pre-built stylesheets has pushed the outstanding down the priority queue for now, but it is still on the list.
  • Django Dict -> Svelte Data Passing: SSR improved and cleaned up, more refactoring.

Features

  • Seamless Integration: DxSvelte integrates tightly with Django's route resolvers, allowing you to easily build SPAs with Svelte without manually connecting the dots through DRF (though you don't lose that functionality, should you need it). The whole philosophy here is that SPA functionality can and should be a 'first class citizen' in Django.
  • Automatic SPA Generation: You don't have to manually configure REST endpoints or manage complex API interactions. Instead, DxSvelte automatically generates the SPA for you, based on the routes defined in your Django app.
  • Efficient Rendering: DxSvelte uses Svelte's efficient rendering engine to deliver fast and responsive user experiences, without sacrificing the power and flexibility of Django. But not only that, DxSvelte also takes care of SSR (Server Side Rendering), so that the first page-load is already rendered when it arrives in the browser.
  • Fast Compilation: DxSvelte uses ESBuild (a powerful JS compiler written in Rust) under the hood to give you the best possible compile times.
  • Incremental Adoption: The default behaviour when it comes to navigation makes it easy to adopt the SPA incrementally. If you have an existing project you don't want to rewrite or only want for a specific portion of the site to be an SPA, then just keep going as you are; the SPA will honour any tags which lead away from the SPA by checking itself against the automatically generated routing table.

To-Do List & Known Bugs

  • CSRF: For the time being, you'll need to use the exemption decorator. This will be addressed in a future preview release.
  • Node Dependency: Down the road, the aim is to revert back to the embedded V8 runtime. For now, the target platform will need to have NodeJS installed, as well as Python.
  • VENV Usage: Configuration options for virtual environments aren't currently supported. Please ensure that 'python' is bound to a version which works with your version of Django so the router resolution during build can take place. This only affects the build step and will not affect how you run your server.
  • Page Title Updates: Will be added in the near future.
  • CSS Generation: PostCSS support for Tailwind etc.
  • Type Generation (Autocomplete): Decision TBC

Getting Started

To get started with DxSvelte, initialise your Django project so it's ready to start building your SPA:
npx dxsvelte npm i
You should now have a directory tree resembling the following:
my_project_name ├── manage.py ├── dxsvelte.py ├── package.json ├── tsconfig.json ├── my_project_name │ └── ... ├── static │ ├── index.html │ ├── ... └── ...
At this point, you can start building out your individual Django apps. To 'tag' them so that they are rolled up into the SPA, you need to assign names to your paths and prefix them with '$', like so:
# Example app called 'home_page' from django.urls import path from . import views urlpatterns = [ path('', views.index, name='$index'), path('about', views.about, name='$about'), ]
Then, within the corresponding views:
from dxsvelte import render def index(req): # Your normal view logic goes here return render(req, data?) def about(req): return render(req)
Build out your view components, and optionally within your main app folder create your own layout.svelte file:
my_project_name ├── manage.py ├── dxsvelte.py ├── package.json ├── tsconfig.json ├── home_page │ ├── ... │ └── views │ ├── index.svelte │ └── about.svelte ├── my_project_name │ └── layout.svelte └── ...
If you do write your own layout.svelte component (recommended), ensure that you leave the '' element in there somewhere - that's what gets replaced with your page contents. For now, more advanced layouts are not supported.

Your Website Name.

Finally, build it.
npm run compile
That's it! Now you can start building your Svelte-powered hybrid SSR SPA, all while using Django as your back-end.

Passing Parameters & Server-Side Props

You can now pass your server-side props as a Dict from your Django view directly to Svelte, while still taking full advantage of SSR. Usage is simple, but be sure to validate your objects on the front-end before accessing them. The data argument is optional and can be omitted if you have no server-side properties to pass.
urlpatterns = [ path('', views.index, name='$index'), path('about//', views.about, name='$about'), ] @csrf_exempt def about(req, company): data = { "aboutUsText": "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adip...", "company": "You are viewing the page for " + company + "!" } return render(req, data)
Meanwhile, in your about.svelte component over in the ./views directory:
 {#if data?.company && data.aboutUsText}

About {data.company}.

{data.aboutUsText} {/if}
That's it! For now...

2023.04.01 07:32 rdk67 Spring Day 11: Spring Vows

Blossoms begins to appear, a pink and white humming in the trees, and with the crooning, does spring propose marriage every other block? Pop the question every other corner? Not literally perhaps – song birds don’t carry marriage vows beneath their wings, though the squirrels seem prepared to bear witness to whatever goes on. Literal marriage is but one type, though – there are a few more. I have been the subject of secret marriage proposals galore, some sincerer than others, a fair number more trick than feat. Have you ever seen such a beast in the field? Slinking about tulip shoots and daffodils? Trickster marriage climbs up your pant leg, intimates building a nest somewhere inside. Does saying its name aloud embolden it to go further? A question we need to pose if we hope to adequately inform the public about marriage sighted in the wild.
We see two cheerful adults meeting for lunch in an upscale eatery brimming with prosperity. They shake hands, order cobb salads or whatever, drink chilled water from crystal goblets. She asks him about his level of protection, and he offers an astute answer about coverage, a nod toward shrewd judgment, and one supposes the lunch date is about insurance, but the tone shifts, the conversation wanders – she proposes an additional policy, a lilt in her voice, wonders if this is something he might want. I do, he admits. She smiles hugely, points to two rings left on the tablecloth from the water glasses, says she does, too, and someone begins to play violin from the corner. The lunch dates at the tables around them break into applause, and a child with a basket of flower petals materializes out of thin air, scatters them around the dining area.
Don’t think it can’t happen to you! What the service announcement jumps to as we watch the poor chump get up from the table, a ball and chain now attached to his ankle – tricked into marriage. Cut to a car salesperson writing Just Married! on the back of a pickup. Cut to a barista handing a latte to a customer, with I Do! written on the side. Cut to a doctor finishing a suture shaped like wedding bands. A taxi driver behind the wheel states how easy it was to marry a few people every shift, typically the better tippers. A minister in vestments admits to adding himself to many of the weddings he officiates, stares at his hands while he says it. A woman in silhouette recounts the boy-scout troop selling candy bars who came calling – they seemed so earnest in their little uniforms and yellow bandanas. On impulse, she married the whole pack.
Spring, the way you rained tonight – the wetness of the streets, the sound of it coaxing the earth to share the news with the swarms from underneath – a kind of buzzing coming off the concrete surfaces, the sound a certain kind of light might make when blades of grass all stand up at once. For now, sprays of lime-green grass poke up on the south side of the building – so strangely tall at this time of year, nature’s truest ambitions fill the mind, and those dreams again? Everything everywhere is starting to stir, then leaps out of bed as fast as it can. I feel the antennae of ants waving about, inquiring about the existence of reality. And after that? They’ll probably all want to marry me, along with the aphids, lady bugs, and lacewings, along with microbiology, along with springs-to-be and seasons unnamed that will one day take our hand, walk us up the aisle.
The speciation of marriage has more than one motive drawing it forward, but that it moves of its own accord, where it will, is now generally accepted. A woman marries her house key, not to unlock hidden desire, but so she’d be less likely to lose it. Guy goes to Vegas, tries to marry a slot machine, goes about as well as you’d expect. A bride marries her wedding dress. A groom marries a pair of wedding rings, slips them on the ring finger of either hand. Someone who fixes watches starts marrying them, even after they head back to someone else’s pocket. A rectilinear road striper marries the striped road – the line, a kind of pre-nup. A farmer and a herd of milk cows declare their marriage to the world, fling open the gates, amble over brightened grass, through magic glade, try to imagine a world of universal sustenance, future cities built from it.
What new season might spring suggest? The atmosphere wants its own season, that it might spread the light and rain around as it pleases. Dreams want their own season, that whole towns might venture to meadow and park to sleep beneath the stars. Rivers want their own season, that time might continue to fill the oceans of our souls with reason. Roadways want their own season, that we might careen through the open land like particles passing through the universe unhindered. Destinations want their own season, that the orphans in us all might at last meet its parent. Contemplation wants its own season, that we might know the many ways from here to there. Rest assured, we are destined to cross the cosmos, betrothed en route by solar systems galore. Until then, spring takes us beneath its wings, flies to a high branch, inhales to sing.

2023.04.01 07:22 cuberandgamer Is Plano getting their money's worth out of DART? Its complicated, but yes

Recently, I attended a Plano townhall at UT Dallas. Councilman Shelby Williams talked about, in great detail, how Plano was giving DART $100 million, and they only saw a fraction of that value returned by the services DART provided.
Shelby Williams is maybe not the most transit friendly councilman in Plano. He accused DART of wasting money running empty buses no one wants to use, and suggests that even Dallas is getting a poor return on investment from DART.
Matt Shaheen (represents West Plano in the state legislature) Ffiled a bill in the Texas state legislature that would require DART to provide service levels proportional to sales tax contribution by a member city. This would mean that, if you spend say, $80 million in sales tax to DART, DART would have to provide $80 Million worth of transit services. I want to show you all a comparison between Garland and Plano's bus network:
https://preview.redd.it/unc5bjxhz6ra1.png?width=536&format=png&auto=webp&s=db26bcdd1f0d2104658d8c40b51dba499def051d
As you can see, Garland has a fairly comprehensive fixed route bus service, though the buses are not very frequent for the most part. Keep in mind, some of these routes are also serving Richardson and Dallas, not all of those bus miles are being driven in Garland.
Lets take a look at Plano
https://preview.redd.it/rpf2udytz6ra1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=99f7f240880ebe9cf11936cd437b81fbcdcce201
I bring this up because I think this demonstrates where Plano is coming from. Sure, we don't know the costs of these services, but at a glance of the map you can maybe see how Plano might actually be getting less investment from DART than a city like Garland despite spending more money on DART services. GoLink works well for Plano though, and GoLink requires a higher subsidy per passenger trip than fixed route service.

Now, here are those numbers I was talking about, what DART calculates they spend in each member city:

https://preview.redd.it/batwgsl0z6ra1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=929a5b87df140132a3ca337512fefd947f1e2e27
Keep in mind, DART has other revenue services besides sales tax. Fares, advertising, and federal grants. That's why they spend more in the service area cities than they receive from them.
According to these numbers, if accurate, Plano was actually getting more out of DART than their sales tax could provide in 2019.
We also can't ignore the fact that DART is spending billions to bring the silver line to Plano, or that DART will probably give Plano some pretty serious frequency improvements in phase two of their network redesign.
So, does DART need to fundamentally rethink their bus network and how they allocate resources so they can satisfy Plano? There's room for a lot of debate here, but if you ask me, I'd say no.
There are gaps and opportunities in Plano that DART should work to address. DART replaced many buses in Plano with GoLink service, but a lot of the bus routes they replaced had very limited service, or sometimes rush hour only service. It may be worth exploring giving some of the axed fixed route corridors in Plano a proper shot, with full weekend and 6am to midnight service. Some Golink zones could be added and expanded as well. So don't get me wrong, I would NOT be opposed to more DART service in Plano.
However, I believe that imposing restrictions on where costs should be allocated within the DART network, based on each member city's contribution, would be counterproductive. While this may seem like a logical approach, it could hinder DART's ability to effectively allocate resources to meet the transit needs of all member cities and their residents. When making a transit network, ideally you may want to focus on travel patterns, serving commutes, ridership, and making a network useful to their riders in Plano and other member cities. You probably wouldn't focus disaggregating cost by member city contribution because that would be a hinderance to the network. Making DART better for Plano residents or commuters sometimes requires improving the DART network outside of Plano.
How many of you would benefit from a new route or increased frequency on a route outside of the city you live in? My guess is, almost all of you can think of a few improvements to the network that would make your life better that exist outside of the city you live in. Everyone who uses the route 239 in Plano can potentially benefit from every route that serves the Addison transit center, even if that route serves some other city such as Carrolton.
The focus of DART staff shouldn't be "well in this geographical boundary, we need to spend x amount more resources here", it should be, "for our 13 member cities and their residents, lets provide the most access possible and serve their commutes as best as we can"

Cabinet approves military-technical cooperation agreement with Czech Republic

The Government of Armenia on March 30 approved the agreement on military-technical cooperation with Czech Republic which was signed in 2019.
The agreement envisages cooperation in military education, defense industry, military history and museology, as well as participation in peacekeeping missions abroad. It will be sent to the Constitutional Court to determine its compliance with the constitution, and in the event of receiving a positive response the agreement will be submitted to parliament for ratification.

Border guards to take over the protection of road connecting Lachin Corridor to Armenia – PM

“But since the road connecting the Lachin Corridor to the Republic of Armenia was not completely ready, a temporary route was launched that entered the territory of the Republic of Armenia through the Kornidzor Bridge, then again into the territory of Azerbaijan, then again into the territory of the Republic of Armenia. According to the agreement reached, this route was supposed to operate until April 1, 2023,” the Prime Minister said.
He emphasized that the border guard troops will be stationed at the state border of the Republic of Armenia in the same positions where the units of the Ministry of Defense were stationed until now.
PM Pashinyan said the Azerbaijani side tried to present the situation as another “blockbuster.”
“This approach is at least not constructive. No change in the Armenian positions has occurred as a result of all this, with the difference that we intend to protect the area in question, unlike before, through Border Guard troops. In other words, the change that takes place is as follows: from the same positions along the state border of the Republic of Armenia, the units of the Ministry of Defense will withdraw according to the plan, and units of the Border Guard troops will be deployed in their place. We made the same proposal to Azerbaijan as well, so that the same would happen on Azerbaijan’s side. I hope that this process will take place without provocations,” Nikol Pashinyan stated.

I have great hopes that the Azerbaijani forces will return to the designated places. Governor of Syunik

According to him, there is no panic in the border communities, but people are worried about the created situation.
Syunik Marz Governor Robert Ghukasyan has been in Tegh community for two days already. According to the report of the National Security Service, from April 1, the road connecting the territory of the Republic of Armenia to the Lachin Corridor will pass through the Kornidzor-Tegh route, only through the territory of the Republic of Armenia. According to the agreements reached yesterday between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the border guards of the two countries were to be deployed on both sides of the border along the above-mentioned section in the last days of March. According to the calculations of the Armenian side, the Azerbaijani side was located 100 to 300 meters ahead of the border at five points. "Radiolur" talked with Syunik Marz Governor Robert Ghukasyan.

Against all challenges, we should not deviate from the development agenda of Armenia for a single moment. PM Pashinyan

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received the President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, Laurent Wauquiez, and the delegation led by him, who were on a two-day visit to the Syunik Province, ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister.
"Of course, we are in a very difficult period, and our country and the region are experiencing very difficult times. In this sense, such visits are also very important in terms of conveying moral strength and support, including political. I would like to emphasize the importance of your visit to the starting point of the Lachin Corridor and the Syunik Province and, of course, your messages regarding the existing situation."
"I would also like to hear your impressions from the visit. I hope you have noticed that despite all the problems, we are making very serious investment projects in the republic, including in the Syunik Province. massive construction works are being carried out: roads, schools, kindergartens, other infrastructures, because our approach is that despite all the challenges, we should not deviate for a moment from the development agenda of Armenia. Recently, the European Union's investment and economic plan was launched in Syunik Province, which is extremely important. We also hope that the presence of the EU civilian mission along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border will become an additional factor contributing to stability and security. I welcome you once again."
The President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France said,
"Thank you very much, Mr. Prime Minister.
This is the second time we are meeting, and I have the greatest respect for what you are doing for Armenia in this very difficult period. Last time I was very impressed with your strength and your will to move forward with very specific plans.
You are asking about my impressions from this visit. first of all, I want to say that it was very important for us to go to the Syunik Province and be the first French local authority to establish cooperation with the region, because we understand very well how important Syunik is for the territorial integrity of Armenia."
The parties emphasized the consistent efforts of the international community towards stability and peace in the region.
The interlocutors also discussed the prospects for the development of multi-sector partnership and the expansion of trade and economic ties. In this regard, the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the Syunik Province and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region on March 29 was highlighted.
The Prime Minister noted that the Armenian Government consistently continues the policy of balanced territorial development, and in this regard, attached great importance to the strengthening of decentralized cooperation with France and the exchange of experience between regions. Nikol Pashinyan referred to the reform agenda of the Government of Armenia, measures being implemented to improve the investment environment. Laurent Wauquiez thanked for the information, noting that French companies are interested in doing business in Armenia.
The sides exchanged ideas on opportunities for implementing joint projects in the fields of agriculture, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and renewable energy.

Whoever attacks Syunik will be attacking Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, says Laurent Wauquiez

“That’s why we decided to have a cooperation agreement between our region and Syunik province. The agreement was signed in a very meaningful place, in the Tatev Monastery. Cooperation will relate to healthcare, agriculture and education. I’ve said that whoever attacks Syunik will be attacking my region,” Wauquiez said, repeating his statement made at the signing ceremony earlier.
“This isn’t a dispute between two countries where borders aren’t clarified and it could last forever, this is a total disregard for human rights that are protected under all international conventions, this is a desire to destroy a nation, its culture and history, its memory. This is certainly Armenia’s struggle, Artsakh’s struggle, but this is also a bigger struggle, this is a struggle for all the values that we bear. This is a struggle for civilization and democracy. Protecting you means protecting all these values,” the French politician added.
He called for stronger reaction by the international community and international sanctions against Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
“It was decided not to buy Russian gas any more after the occupation of some parts of Ukraine, but is the Azerbaijani gas more acceptable? Why weren’t there any consequences for what happened, why are there no sanctions against the Aliyev regime? I share these questions with you and I am equally angered,” he said.
Wauquiez said that together with his 40-member delegation he visited Syunik province. “All members of my delegation can now say, I have been there, I have seen what’s happening, I know what’s happening. The Azerbaijani troops came and captured the parts from the sovereign territory of Armenia where we went just one day earlier.”

Nagorno Karabakh FM meets with Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes President Laurent Wauquiez in Yerevan

France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region to attempt humanitarian convoy passage into blockaded Nagorno Karabakh

“In 2019, we met with representatives of Artsakh and signed a cooperation agreement between my region and Artsakh. We’d adopted a political position in my region to confirm Artsakh’s right to independence, which led to serious pressures by Pan-Turkist terrorist organizations against me and my family. Why am I here today? Because I am well aware that the entire international attention is on Ukraine and there is a serious danger for Armenia and Artsakh to be forgotten in all of this. I am here to say that we are not forgetting you, you are not alone, and we shouldn’t allow the violations of international law in Armenia, Artsakh and Lachin Corridor to go unnoticed in silence,” Wauquiez said.
The President of the Regional Council of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes visited the entrance of the blockaded Lachin Corridor in Syunik to show to his countrymen the violations of international law, that 120,000 people on the other side are deprived of basic human rights.
“I was with the Governor of Syunik the moment he was notified that an advance had taken place the day before where we were located at that time [Tegh village]. I have witnessed and can testify about the violation of international law. I have also seen the Azerbaijani flags hoisted on the heights located in Armenian lands. And I had the chance to speak with displaced persons of Artsakh, whose words were deeply touching. As a politician, it is my duty to take action and be able to help you,” he said.
Wauquiez said that they want to organize a humanitarian convoy jointly with the organizations representing the Armenian community of France and try to deliver humanitarian aid to Artsakh.
“The convoy will be organized with our region’s support and will bear our region’s flag. It will approach the Lachin Corridor and we will demand passage to Artsakh. Either the convoy will pass and we will have a ray of hope, or the convoy will be barred and it will give us the opportunity to present this issue before international and European organizations, that once again the international law is being violated, and that actions must be taken,” Wauquiez added.

Azerbaijan has advanced troops 100 to 300 meters in five points, Armenia’s National Security Service says

After August 2022, a part of the road connecting the Lachin Corridor to Armenia was still passing through the Azerbaijani territory after the Kornidzor Bridge. That part of the road and its adjacent territory were controlled by the Russian peacekeeping forces.
According to the agreements reached yesterday between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the border guards of the two countries were to be deployed on both sides of the border along the above-mentioned section in the last days of March.
According to the NSS, there has been “misreading of maps” and in some places, the Azerbaijani side, without waiting for pre-arranged adjustments, started positioning and carrying out engineering works.
“According to the calculations of the Armenian side, there are five points, where the Azerbaijani side has advanced troops 100 to 300 meters further from the border. It has now been agreed that cartographers from both sides will correct the situation,” the National Security Service said.
“The Armenian side approaches the situation with the logic of not allowing escalation,” it added.
“The Armenian army did not have positions in the area in question, because positions are not located on the border line, but on the nearby strategic heights. And the protection of that part of the border should be transferred to the border guard troops, according to the agreement mentioned above,” SNS stated.

Armenia remains committed to the peace process with Azerbaijan’ – PM Pashinyan at Summit for Democracy 2023

"Along with strengthening the democratic institutions in our country, in September, 2022, we had to encounter an aggression against the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Armenia, which resulted in the occupation of part of our sovereign territory by Azerbaijan. It was back in September that we felt the union of democracies and the clear condemnation of aggression against Armenia. I want to take this opportunity and extend our gratitude to the United States and other partners that helped us stop the further incursion through diplomatic engagement."
"Armenia feels strongly about the human rights violations across the world and there is a lot that we need to do together to prevent genocides, ethnic cleansings and atrocities. Whatever is happening with Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh today, the blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan and the humanitarian crisis resulted by it, is definitely an attempt of ethnic cleansing of Armenians in NK. And we cannot turn a blind eye on that. At the same time, I reiterate that Armenia remains committed to the peace process with Azerbaijan. We are convinced that there is no alternative to the peaceful development of the region and that sticking to democratic values will help us find a way to peace."

Turkey approves Finland NATO membership bid

Any NATO expansion needs the support of all its members.
Finland will now be formally admitted into NATO at its next summit, taking place in July in Lithuania.
In a statement following the Turkish vote, the Finnish government said joining the alliance would strengthen the country's security, and improve stability and security in the region.
But his ongoing hostility to Sweden was clear - as he again accused the country of embracing Kurdish militants and allowing them to demonstrate on the streets of Stockholm.
Finland, a country with a 1,340km (832 mile) border with Russia and one of the most powerful arsenals of artillery pieces in Western Europe, is ditching its neutrality and joining the alliance in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow describes as a “special military operation.”
Russia's foreign ministry earlier condemned Finland's decision, saying it was ill-considered and based on Russophobic hysteria.

2023.04.01 04:27 Firm_Bit How should we split up a 2k mile road trip?

We’ll be going from Seattle to Dallas, which is about 2k miles or 2.5k miles if we take the CA coast route down first.
I’ve never driven those sorts of distances. What’s a safe distance/number of hours to travel each day? How many days would you expect this to take?
If we just wanted to “get there”? What about if we didn’t want to rush and wanted to make more of a trip of it?

2023.04.01 04:12 BrownTown427 Booking The AEW Women's Title Until Double Or Nothing 2024: Part I

Since becoming AEW Women’s Champion at Full Gear in 2022, Jamie Hayter has proven that she can more than hold her own as the figure everyone sets out to dethrone in the women’s division. With successful title defenses against Hikaru Shida and in the triple threat at Revolution against Saraya and Ruby Soho, all the critics have been forced to drink the Hayterade up to this point. However, with more challengers approaching, what will the future look like for the title? Let’s find out…

Dynamite (4/5/23):
With the start of the second hour of Dynamite, Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker make their way to the ring, the crowd cheering them on as they get ready to speak:
Britt Baker: “Long Island! Look, I could give some long talk about how we’re sick of the so-called Outcasts, but you all know that by now. And I could talk about how much it feels great seeing Adam (Cole) back in action, but I don’t need to: everyone knows we’re the Undisputed couple of this company. So how about we hear from the incredible AEW Women’s Champion, and my good friend… Jamie Hayter!”
Britt hands the mic to Jamie as the crowd gives a quick positive reaction.
Jamie Hayter: “As I sit here the best damn female talent on the roster today, I could easily talk about the now. But I want to talk about something different: I want to talk about the past. Throughout my entire career, I’ve been underestimated. People thought I wouldn’t make it in this industry. People looked at me as nothing more than Britt Baker’s lackey. And even still, people like the Outcasts have looked at me as being undeserving of holding this championship. Well I’ll be damned if I let that define my career as a wrestler. I’m going to defend this title next week, and I want a strong opponent. Another opportunity to prove I can step up to anyone and come out unscathed on the other end…”
Before she can go on though, she gets interrupted by…SERENA DEEB! After being on hiatus with an injury for several months, the veteran is back, and upon entering the ring, she looks the champion up and down. She briefly glances at Britt as well, before getting the chance to speak her mind:
Serena Deeb: “Jamie, I’ll be honest: you’re right. I was someone backstage who didn’t respect you early on. Since then, you’ve gotten out of Britt’s shadow, and now you’re a champion. But the issue is…I want to be champion too. Since joining AEW, I have yet to hold that belt, and I’ve had enough of sitting idly by and watching opportunities slip me by. So next week, you want a match against a strong opponent? You’re on.”
And with that, the title match is set for seven days from now, two figures confident in their abilities set to test each other’s limits. The only question is: will it be a clean fight? Or will certain other people decide to screw things up?

Dynamite (4/12/23): Serena Deeb vs. Jamie Hayter (c) - AEW Women’s Championship
To answer that question from before, the ending result is… a perfectly clean match! In her first match back from injury, the veteran Deeb looks to take the younger champion down a peg. She succeeds early on, getting control and slowing the pace of the match down in her favor. However, despite Deeb getting in some solid work on the leg of Hayter and even managing to apply the devastating Serenity Lock, Hayter fights valiantly back. She escapes the hold by clawing her way to the bottom rope, and shortly thereafter, decapitates Deeb with her signature Hayterade Lariat to seal things.
Jamie Hayter def. Serena Deeb via pinfall to retain the AEW Women’s Title (11:03)
After the match, Hayter indulges in the standard post-match victory celebration, but it’s soon interrupted by the Outcasts appearing over the titantron. At their feet is the weakened body of a particular women’s competitor… Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter’s friend Rebel! Saraya then starts speaking into the camera:
Saraya: “It’s a shame this had to happen to someone like Rebel. She did nothing wrong, if only she had friends that could’ve backed her up at a time like this…oh wait. Wasn’t she one of your friends? She thought so. But you two left her when she was no longer of use to you. For as many bad things as you say about us, we at least stick together. We’re trying to change this landscape for the better, but you keep trying to keep it down as a complete shithole. So enjoy that title for now, Hayter, but soon enough, it’ll belong to the Outcasts.”

Dynamite (4/19/23):
After a solid match between Toni Storm and Hikaru Shida ends with Storm picking up the victory (albeit by questionable measures after a cheap shot by Soho to Shida allowing Toni to get a surprise roll-up), Storm starts cutting a promo on behalf of the Outcasts:
Toni Storm: “Another victory for us, but that’s not surprising. We’re used to being successful after all, used to having millions upon millions of people clamoring for our autographs. But as for the current “champion”? She’s irrelevant. She thinks she’s special because she’s rehashing the open challenge concept, but where is she tonight? Sitting on her ass, not putting in work while I just beat a former champion. But where’s my title opportunity? I never got my rematch against Hayter, I deserve…”
It’s there that Hayter inevitably interrupts, standing at the top of the entrance ramp with an amused expression on her face and a mic in tow:
Jamie Hayter: “Really, Toni? Playing the popularity card, are we? As much as I detest Saraya, she at least was a focal point of women’s wrestling for years. And Ruby got to shine in the women’s tag division for a while. But you? You’re more known for getting pies repeatedly thrown in your face in the other company than for, you know, actual wrestling ability. But hey, I’ll throw you a bone. You did beat Shida tonight, so I’ll gladly fight you… and we can do it in two days on Rampage! See you soon.”

Rampage (4/21/23): Toni Storm vs. Jamie Hayter (c) III - AEW Women’s Championship
With these two having fought twice before in singles competition, each woman having taken one win apiece, it’s time to determine who wins the best of three and gets the AEW Women’s Title. Hayter starts off the match hot, taking the fight right to Storm, but it’s inevitable that the Outcasts and Britt will eventually come to blows at ringside. Hayter helps Britt take Saraya and Soho out momentarily, but upon getting back in the ring, Storm blindsides her, allowing her to get the advantage. However, she can’t seal the deal in the end, as with the ref turning a blind eye to the rest of the altercations on the outside, Hayter eventually regains control, out-wrestling Storm en route to hitting the Hayterade.
Jamie Hayter def. Toni Storm via pinfall to retain the AEW Women’s Title (13:37)
Unfortunately, after the match, Saraya and Soho attack Jamie from behind. Britt tries to help her friend, and she’s successful momentarily, taking Soho down and laying in shots against Saraya. But Ruby gets back in the ring, blasting Baker with a steel chair and allowing the Outcasts the opportunity to just dismantle Hayter and Britt. However, instead of destroying Jamie, they opt for her to have to watch the beating they inflict on her friend instead, with Saraya, Ruby, and Toni each taking turns hitting the chair on Britt’s arm and leaving it majorly injured. The segment ends with medical officials checking on Baker, while Hayter is left furious at the warfare being inflicted upon them.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

With Britt Baker being put on the shelf in kayfabe, Hayter would have to go at it the next several weeks on her own. Unfortunately, after another successful title defense against Anna Jay, Hayter would once again be blindsided by the Outcasts, with Ruby holding up the title to end the segment, signifying that she’s gonna be the one to challenge Hayter for the championship next. And though things aren’t looking good for Jamie, she has one trick up her sleeve that might work if all goes well…

Rampage (5/12/23): Hikaru Shida Pre-Taped Backstage Interview
As Shida is wrapping up a quick discussion with Tony Schiavone, Jamie Hayter would walk in. Shida immediately gets defensive, looking ready to fight if things escalate, but Hayter shows no interest in that. Instead, she says…
JH: “Shida, I’m not here to fight. I know we don’t have the best history between us, and I’m not looking to necessarily change that relationship. But as of late, the Outcasts have been wreaking havoc over the entire women’s division. And sure, they’ve mostly been sticking to making the lives of younger talents miserable, but who’s to say they won’t target you next? Saraya and Toni abandoned you once. And I know you want this title back more than anything, so when you try and get it, they’ll stop at nothing to take you out of the picture. So what I’m saying is, if you really want to make a big step towards getting gold back around your waist…I’d recommend making the first move against them…”
And with that, Hayter exits the room, Shida still looking annoyed but being left with something to ponder as well.

Dynamite (5/17/23): Athena vs. Jamie Hayter (c) - AEW Women’s Championship
In Hayter’s final title defense before Double or Nothing, she has to go up against the dynamic Athena. The former Ember Moon is able to put up a strong showing, using her combination of agility and solid strength to keep Jamie reeling throughout a good portion of the contest. But in the end, Hayter once again proves why she’s been champion for the better part of six months, eventually catching Athena as she goes for an Eclipse and instead transitioning it straight into the Hayterade Ripcord Lariat.
Jamie Hayter def. Athena to retain the AEW Women’s Championship (13:33)
After the match, the Outcasts start making their way to the ring, seemingly bent on once again destroying Hayter. But as Athena gets up, it initially looks like she might help Jamie, standing side-by-side with her as Saraya briefly holds Ruby and Toni back. However, Athena decides it’s not worth it fighting this battle, exiting the ring and walking by the Outcasts, not giving them a second glance. Saraya smirks at this, but just as it looks like Hayter is done for…
OUT COMES HIKARU SHIDA WITH A KENDO STICK! She starts battering the backs of Saraya, Storm, and Soho, leaving them all in a heap outside the ring while Jamie just looks on, a look of surprise on her face. Sure, she pitched the idea to Shida, but she didn’t actually think it was gonna work… And once Shida is through with the assault, she glances back up towards Jamie, her eyes quickly shifting towards the title, before walking out, uninterested in doing anything else at that given moment.

Double Or Nothing (5/28/23): Ruby Soho vs. Jamie Hayter (c) - AEW Women’s Championship
Although Jamie Hayter may have beaten both Saraya and Ruby Soho at Revolution, the singles match with Soho is still going to be quite the challenge, possibly even more than the triple threat. In addition to facing a talented in-ring competitor, Saraya and Storm stand at ringside, and it’s only inevitable they’ll get involved at some point. Despite these odds, Hayter fights Soho well, doing her best to ignore Ruby’s partners. However, after a move leaves both women down, the ref checking on Hayter quickly, Saraya passes Ruby a pair of brass knuckles! Hayter doesn’t see this, and while she gets Ruby in position for the Hayterade, Soho ducks it, leveling Jamie in the back of the neck with the brass-covered knuckles at an angle the ref can’t see! Hayter collapses into the corner, the only thing keeping her upright. This gives Ruby the chance she needs, pulling Jamie towards her and taking her out with the No Future Pelé Kick.
Ruby Soho def. Jamie Hayter via pinfall to win the AEW Women’s Championship
And just like that, we have a new AEW Women’s Champion, Ruby Soho having won the top prize in the women’s division and giving the Outcasts even more power than they already had. But a lot can change in a matter of merely a few days…

Dynamite (5/31/23): Outcasts Title Celebration
Following Ruby’s title victory, the Outcasts decide that it’s only fitting they tell everyone what they were dreading to hear:
Saraya: “WE TOLD YOU SO! That’s right, to all these idiot fans with the attention span of gnats, to biased commentators like the so-called “legend” Tony Schiavone, to all of those weak-minded women’s wrestlers backstage… WE TOLD YOU SO! When push came to shove, Hayter simply didn’t have the ability nor the experience to beat a superior talent like Ruby Soho. Ruby was disrespected by people like Britt Baker when she first came in, and now, she helped take her out of commission AND steal Britt’s best friend’s title. Sounds like a beautiful comeback story to me.”
Saraya then hands the mic to Soho, allowing the champ to get in a few words:
Ruby Soho: “It was a few weeks ago that Jamie talked about herself being underestimated, but she doesn’t know the damn meaning of the word. She’s been a spoiled bitch her entire time in AEW, and she never deserved to win that title in the first place. But me. I deserve this shit more than any of you people could ever know. I was always overshadowed. Hell, when I was released, I may as well have had my stuff thrown in a trash bag, that’s how little I was valued… oh wait, that was some other overrated, washed-up legend. Regardless, I’m at the top now. And if I could quote a wise man or wizard or whatever he identifies as now: disrespecting me or Toni or Saraya is a stupid idea from bad creative!”
It’s not longer after this that Jamie Hayer interrupts, looking quite agitated. Before she can speak her mind though, Toni grabs the mic:
Toni Storm: “What do you think you’re doing out here, Jamie? You lost to Ruby last night, and that puts you right at the back of the line where you belong. If I had to wait months to get my title rematch, you’re not getting it so soon either.”
Jamie Hayter: “Oh shut your mouth Toni, I just beat you a few weeks ago, don’t make me have to do it again. And I didn’t come out here to demand a title match: no, I wanted to make an announcement. The beauty of healing from an injury is that it seems to happen more quickly when you have a motivation behind it. And in the case of this person, their motivation is wanting to kick your asses! Everyone, please welcome back…BRITT BAKER!
The crowd erupts as the Doctor makes her return to AEW programming, arm looking to be fully healed. She walks out with two steel chairs in tow, handing one to Hayter, and the pair march to the ring, ready to dismantle the Outcasts. Saraya, Storm, and Soho initially hold their ground, but after each of them receives a couple of shots apiece, they’re forced to retreat.

From there, Britt Baker gets back into the fold of things, winning her return to competition match and making it clear her sights are fully set on vanquishing both the Outcasts as a whole and Soho especially to prevent their reign of terror. Ruby has no interest in that singles match happening anytime soon, knowing what’s happened in previous singles encounters with her and Britt. However, with Baker rising the ranks, it looks like a tag match will help decide whether Britt will get the opportunity or not. But she won’t be partnering with Hayter: instead, the match will be…

Dynamite (6/28/23): Saraya and Chris Jericho vs. Britt Baker and Adam Cole - Mixed Tag Team Match
With the Outcasts having paid homage to one of Chris Jericho’s past AEW quotes, they would also look to get him on their good side. This would later see Jericho even confront Baker after one of her matches, and with Jericho Appreciation Society having been feuding with Adam Cole recently, things get tense quickly. After an insufferable comment from Jericho, Baker slaps Chris, and while he looks agitated, he holds himself back, telling her that she’ll regret that decision.
And getting to the match itself, while Baker was hoping that Ruby would be the one teaming with Chris, Saraya opts to instead, knowing that she’s beaten Britt in singles competition before and can do it again. Despite Saraya and Jericho having never teamed before, they show good chemistry together, making frequent tags. And while it looks as though things are remaining steady, the match suddenly takes a wild turn. After Jericho hits a Lionsault on Cole, he goes for the cover, but Britt breaks up the pin. And in response…JERICHO HITS HER WITH THE JUDAS EFFECT! The commentators are horrified, and Cole is initially in shock, but that shock soon turns to outright anger. He unleashes himself on Jericho, absolutely destroying him with shots before not only nailing the Panama Sunrise, but a Last Shot as well for good measure to put an end to his feud with Chris and the rest of Jericho Appreciation Society.
Adam Cole and Britt Baker def. Chris Jericho and Saraya (15:40)

Fyter Fest Night One: Britt Baker vs. Ruby Soho (c) - AEW Women’s Championship
With her being a part of the winning team, Britt Baker receives the shot at Ruby she wanted, and she knows she has to make the most of it. She starts off the match strong, looking like what Adam Cole was doing to Jericho at the end of the match with repeated, vicious shots forcing Soho into the corner and then having to crawl away out of desperation. However, Ruby knew to expect a very difficult challenge, bringing her own A-game in the process for the rest of the match. At the end, Soho nails not one, but two consecutive No Future Pele kicks in succession, ultimately picking up the win.
Ruby Soho def. Britt Baker via pinfall to retain the AEW Women’s Championship (14:20)

Fight For The Fallen: Jamie Hayter vs. Ruby Soho (c) - Unsanctioned Match for the AEW Women’s Championship
Unfortunately for Soho, just a few weeks later, she has another tough test, this time having to fight Jamie in a rematch after Hayter goes on a multi-match win streak to earn the opportunity. And she manages to get in Soho’s ear about the potential benefits of having No DQ for their title match, who likely thinks that the Outcasts can just help her win if worse comes to worst.
However, before the match can begin, Britt Baker, with Rebel back by her side, fights Saraya and Storm into the back, leading to a completely even playing field. It’s a hard-hitting and violent affair, with each woman bringing out multiple weapons to use at their disposal. Hayter has a disturbing amount of fun with repeated kendo stick shots to Soho’s back, while Ruby pulls out a page from her former partner Liv Morgan’s book and hits Hayter with a Senton through a table. But at the end, as both women are down, out comes…Athena?!?!
Athena gets into the ring, staring down Soho. But as Hayter gets up behind her…ATHENA ROCKS JAMIE WITH A FOREARM! The commentators are stunned as Soho smirks, quickly moving back to Hayter to capitalize on Athena’s decision and nailing the Pele Kick to once again retain her title, albeit under dubious circumstances.
Ruby Soho def. Jamie Hayter via pinfall to retain the AEW Women’s Championship (18:22)

And while Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter are now firmly in the rear-view mirror, the Outcasts look towards the future. Or maybe, it’s the future that’s coming to them…

Dynamite (8/16/23):
Following a Toni Storm singles win, Ruby gets on the mic, mockingly asking who’s next. Everyone in AEW is either scared of them, already gotten beaten by them, or just not worthy of being in the ring with them. It would take someone from out of this world just to have a shot at beating them…
OUT COMES THE RETURNING KRIS STATLANDER! They wanted someone from out of this world, and on cue, out comes the Galaxy’s Greatest Alien. She gets into the ring, completely ignoring Saraya and Toni and immediately just getting in Soho’s face, already staking her claim to be the next challenger.

Over the coming weeks, Statlander more than showcases why she has what it takes. She wins in her return matches, including a singles victory against Toni Storm, and in promos, she talks about the hatred she feels towards the group. The idea of them merely coming together just because they were better in their old company? They don’t care about improving themselves, they care about wrecking the lives of everyone who actually respects this industry. And now that she’s healthy, she’s ready to help AEW out by taking Ruby’s title at All Out. But it’s also worth mentioning, there’s another high-stakes women’s match at the PPV as well…

All Out Match #1: Women’s Casino Ladder Match
With the men having had a casino ladder match for years now, it’s only fitting that the women would have one as well. And of course, the match gets to make its debut at one of the biggest AEW events of the year. The match kicks off with Athena and Jamie Hayter, both looking to tear each other limb from limb after Athena cost Hayter the title and joined the Outcasts. From there, Toni Storm, Saraya, Serena Deeb, Britt Baker, Taya Valkyrie, and the Joker Hikaru Shida enter the fray, leading to some interesting sequences. Deeb and Shida brawl early on, and the numbers game of the Outcasts slowly comes into play as the match progresses. However, as Baker and Hayter stand side-by-side, Shida too joins them, and a three-on-three person brawl between them and the Outcasts ensues. But in the end, Shida and Saraya are at the top of the ladder, dueling it out, but the woman who kicks the other off and grabs the chip is…HIKARU SHIDA! SHE’S CLINCHED A FUTURE WOMEN’S TITLE OPPORTUNITY!
Hikaru Shida def. the rest of the field to win the Casino Ladder Match

All Out Match #2: Kris Statlander vs. Ruby Soho (c) - AEW Women’s Championship
And in another important match, we’ve got Ruby Soho’s possibly hardest match to date. Despite having been sidelined with injury for most of the year, Statlander doesn’t look as though she’s missed a step, keeping Soho on her heels with fast-paced action. However, as Soho gets damaged more and more, she gets more desperate, and realizes what she needs to do to win. She begins targeting the previously torn ACL of Statlander, using chop blocks to weaken the knee area. And while Statlander is able to initially survive this, the wear-and-tear of the match alongside that damage eventually causes her to falter, paving the way for Soho to hit the No Future and just barely survive in a tough battle.

2023.04.01 03:40 OutlandishnessOk9889 India PCC Question

The earliest available appointment time for PCC in my spouse's jurisdiction in India is 2 months away. The website also has a glitch where they are saying "maximum number of attempts" reached to reschedule an appointment when we have booked only 1 appointment thus far with no rescheduling.
  1. Is there a quicker way to get PCC from India for spousal immigration purposes?
  2. Has anyone had luck using the clearance certificate from a local police station?
  3. Is this route viable: living in city A but getting PCC from city B where an earlier appointment is available?
  4. Has anyone experienced the technical glitch and found a workaround?
TIA!

2023.04.01 02:22 Eastern-Function-541 the 10 layers of 9 cat h2h playoffs manager approach

this is basically the journey of what/why i believe about 9 cat h2h playoff meta
the 10 layers of fantasy nba 9 cat 2 C playoffs manager skill that i think i know about

level 1: you're playing to "show how much you know about the nba, or how in touch with the sport you are by using your fantasy team as an expression of how much you knew such and such player was going to be good"

level 2: you realized fantasy is actually a numbers game and even though in year 1 you reached for 4-6 rookies and/ or "gems" and secured your spot in the league as the slickest/ ballsiest predictor of talent, no one else cared and you got shit on by 3-5 other managers whose rosters looked boring to you and you conclude there is some sort of secret magic, which you suppose must be some deeper talent evaluation ability. in combination with your proud natural motive for playing, you've now begun to scout deeper into rookie classes and the player pool for anything resembling a possible future "star" (whatever that is, or however likely of a reality it is, who knows). congratulations. you successfully reached for your "gems" in later rounds than year 1, and your earlier picks were boringer, but still trendy names you saw "experts" talk about, even though you have no idea how good those experts are and literally have no way to check for their accomplishments.regardless, you are the largest popcorn stat farm in your league. you got all the bells and whistles....

level 3. by year 3, you've realized that it doesn't matter if you know who's "good". you now think you're supposed to have something called a "good team".
i lied. you only got the bells. you won the bells a lot, but you only sometimes won the whistles. what gives? your player's "star" brightness is brighter than boring ole "stocks and field goals magilicuty". that, and 2 of your last 3 picks ended up being sexy..so,.......you maximized your internal scouting department to its fullest..... sadly, it took 7 weeks for those mid-lottery or worse rookies to produce both enough counting stat value in 4 or more categories to be Z-stat'ish, and to not completely tank your efficiencies. you went from being worst/2nd worst of anyone who didnt quit 5 weeks in, to contending for the last 2 playoff spots, to making the playoffs. the world is surely meant to be your oyster at some point.

level 4: you go from talent evaluation to filling your roster with rosterable players according to your league's rankings. after all, what the league says goes, right? all those level 1 and 2 idiots are stuck sucking their own weiner, but you have the secret sauce that only a select few know about.so, you played in more leagues, confident in your "statistical integrity" discipline. you also dabbled in a dynasty league, because you have to prove you know more about the nba still. but, overall, you are a changed man. you understand the waiver wire. you won't pick up that high usage d bag who gets 3 -5 TO's a game.....except,actually, you will if he scores 20 or more points, because 20 points makes your hick dard, and is significantly higher than 19 points. you don't realize he got 20 points playing against backups in extra garbage time. but, hey, your worst player was only a 5/10 every game anyways. and, hey, he could have been a "star", for all you knew.

level 5.
last year you ended up finishing in 4/5th in 2 competitive leagues and won a dumpster fire redraft league against mostly burner emails who used that league as a mock draft because they got stung by big bad "bigs only" and "the facker", who drafted facundo campazzo and furkan korkmaz with their first 2 picks, and they just simply couldn't trust mock drafts for the rest of time........so, you lost to managers with greater depth of 1 or 2 players than your roster. you crushed the noobs like the cool kids, inflating the perception of your strength. but you don't care; you're one of the boys. probably no one in your league views you as that sloppy noob with an attitude problem. they have to reckon with you (fantasy bucket list item 2: check!) this time, you are so cleansed from your 20 point garbage addiction that you have developed a perception of data analysis strategy within every draft pick and roster change. you're feeling yourself, but with cause this time. in one league, you found a blocks specialist with some rebounds and fg efficiency. in another league you found someone who got 5 assists, a 3, a steal, and a fg tank. that's like free value in 3 [of 9, idiot] categories. remember that dynasty league? yeah. you're doing pretty good. after all, you are at least a level 3 pokemon, i mean manager. but, really 5 managers in that dynasty only have 6 players in the top 100. every other player was a big name flyer who is either semi-retired or a rookie outside the top 20 who will be good.... in 2 years.

level 6. ok. you finished top 2 in your dynasty last year. the other guy is manager smurfing on a clean slate email, and was looking for an exploitable league to farm profile rating, and w/l%. his other league was a league that separated off reb from def reb, and also had FG made, and FT made. he drafted a bunch of high reb players who got fouled a lot and stomped the retards who assumed dennis schroeder or buddy hield were as good in their other leagues.... sweet!your competitive leagues got renewed again and you're facing mostly the same solid core managers who were active all year. you secretly worship or hate the managers who beat you last year, and go out of your way to humbly compliment everyone you beat because that psychological element will surely help you in a data analysis game.....you're deep in it now. there's no going back. you got a taste of some good wood (*slurp*). you wonder about why you lost to them. after all, you improved your waiver efficiency. your entire roster is full of players with average or better Z stats in at least 5 categories, but still lost 3-6 in the first round.you notice the manager who beat you in the playoffs won 2 categories in that playoff matchup he regularly lost in the regular season. you checked his roster. no trades. 10 players he drafted were still rostered, but the rest are different from last time. you check the averages of those different players and see their averages are ass. you then check the league add/drop list and see he dropped dillon brooks for raul neto (pfft. more like, "raul net0). brooks was consistently top 120 all year, and he left that ass for a white girl, i mean, boy? you look at his past 14 average rank and he's 130th. ok. not terrible, but brooks was nice for your worst player. hella nice. you think this guy is coo coo for coconuts for making that decision at all. hell, a broken clock is right 2 times a day. you are fascinated to see what his other moves were and see that he also dropped terrance ross for coby white. ok.i can see that. but, wha? he dropped jrich for ross? "i'd just keep jrich the whole time", you say. he also made 3 other moves that made no sense.you look at your worst 3 players and see that they are nicer than his. you made fewer moves because you won those categories all day in the regular season with your roster, but he snuck you in assists and steals because he had 7 more games played than you, even though you had a better per-game team. 3 of the top 4 teams made 2x the moves as everyone else to get their wins. you are faced with your 2nd fantasy existential crisis: do you conform to a newly realized meta, or do you conform your league choices to your current fantasy skills? you're frustrated. you knew jrich and coby white were better than terrance ross and raul neto. surely, it's a league problem if managers can get away with being less "intelligent" than you...but,you do see the other side as well:
if the cool kids are doing it, then maybe volume spam is what chicks dig.

level 7.
only 4 managers renewed for your competitive league this time, and you end up leaving....over the summer, you were marinating on your dilemma, and you opted to go with leagues that only had 5 moves per week.you made the choice that validated your notion of self worth. you will never get bunholed by volume cheese again, because you will do some semi-streaming yourself. you take a guard focused BPA approach with all of your redraft picks, and just figure out what you need to stream as you go. perfect. nice and simple.you end up drafting more guards than you need because they fill up the stat sheet since they have the ball in their hands, and you have one more center than you need, and a sufficient amount of forwards. you dominate guard stats all year, with a few hickups due to injuries, and to some losses to the other best managers (omg. i'm memorable) who beat you in bigs stats and one of the stats you're mid at. you dominate your dynasty league because its filled with first time emails after everyone quit for having john wall, carmelo, and other trash. they may or may not be commissioner filler. your other 2 leagues have some good managers though. you win the regular season in one of them, and finish as the 3rd seed in the other. you get a bye in round 1, try to load up on the sexiest FA's. you beat the 6th seed in round 1 in the other. he wasn't a bad manager either. he fought back from injury hell. you "humbly" compliment him for his play and pretend you were surprised by the outcome. it was 5-4 until saturday, and you pulled away to win 6-3 by sunday's end. your 1st matchup as the 1 seed goes normal for the first 3 days. you're winning the guard stats safely and are 6-3, due to having more early games than him. all of a sudden, one of your few bigs goes down and is a GTD all week. all of your bigs were carefully sniped bigs who either shot 3's with decent FT, or ones who got assists/steals just slightly below the Z stat clip. you look on the wire and all you see are bigs who cant shoot or pass. they block, board, and shoot 5/7 every game with shitty FTs and low TOs....you check your opponent's h2h standings and see that he was either slightly above or below mid in every category all year. you tanked FG, blocks, and TOs all year and won rebounds against the shitty managers to feel strong. and you are strong.....when healthy. at this point in time, he is winning your tanked categories, and you are dominating in points, assists, and steals. you are also winning 3s only because you have your games played early, and your FT lead is not very large, but is at a higher volume at least....there are a couple players with PF eligibility who shoot 3s and get rebounds, but the only C player who does anything you need is maxi kleber or drew eubanks. neither of them even get consistent minutes. do you hope your guards hold enough stats down to carry you, in case kleber does literally anything? or do you start tanking your ft lead in order to hold onto rebounds, and maybe catch up in blocks by "streaming" them? you pick up kleber, since he plays to your strengths sometimes, and scores 6 points with a 3 and 4 rebounds, while not helping your high volume, low efficient Fg% enough. it's friday and you're still up 6-3, but he has more games left than you. rebounds will almost surely fall to him, and 3's are what you are both obsessed with the most. you add gafford for kleber, but are saving your other streamed roster spots for saturday and sunday, when you have more knowledge. gafford gives you 8 points, 2 blocks and 6 boards. you don't need the points, but you'll take 6 boards on your underkill day players. he had 3 more games than you and is now slightly winning reb, to make it 5-4. gafford shot 2-5 with ft. your opponent is playing the efficient 3 and d wing spam/ 9 cat roto BPA strategy, and everyone shot at least 46/77%. you now relinquish rebounds and hope to hold onto FT since you can afford more bad shooting than him because your volume is already established. you then pick up dwight powell for saturday. he gets like 4-5 rebounds while shooting around 80% fts. you dont need his 11 points. your opponents wings make 7 more 3s than you, taking the lead by 1. it's sunday and you have 2 moves left. you have one drafted center playing, and can use your last 2 moves to tie him in games played. he is streaming, but there are a few wings and guards who shoot 3s to go around. you only have 2 streamable players and the rest are holds. it's all about 3s and ft's today. you always have hella guards, but some are inefficient usage hogs.
you pick up landry shamet for your last UT, and he picks up bey for points and 3s. that was his last move and the only roster spot left to fill is C.you have no good options for 3s or ft's and have safely won points, assists, and steals. you could still come back in 3s and rebounds, and may hold onto a FT lead. the only play seems to be gafford again for rebounds. kleber's minutes were so inconsistent that you went for a high floor play and hoped for a rebounds come back.
landry shamet only plays 16 minutes, gets 1 3, 2 rebounds and 7 points, because some other wing player was randomly given spot minutes. your big is gafford again. you have 2 players left to his 3. you're down 4-5 and are completely dependent on a FT hold. nothing else matters. gafford goes nuts and goes 16 and 11 with 3 blocks on 80% fg, but shoots 5/9 FTs. none of it mattered. your opponent won 5-4. had literally one big who shot or pass been on the wire, you probably would have won. despite dominating the BPA players in the regular season by guard spam, you got bottlenecked by your own strategy because you had almost no bigs but needed them for volume. your crafty manager rivals held onto players more than you during the regular season, but then snuck you with flexibility in their streaming in the playoffs.

level 8
you know you're the shit. you know about what streaming can do. you know how strength can be a weakness due to position requirements. you theory craft in your head about how else to draft/stream and you immediately go to the opposite extreme: hoarding bigs, spamming guards, and more weekly moves. you hate how specialized bigs are, but maybe your moves will get you the volume you need. anything to avoid being bottlenecked by unreliability. quit the boring dynasty league (it will make you complacent. you're an expert now, so you have to have competition to validate yourself), and are now playing in 2 new keeper leagues.all your redraft rivals draft some predictable BPA strategies with a couple rookies/ gems thown in late. you draft a weird team with 7 bigs. you did not BPA at all. you probably wont dominate the regular season like last year (ego death), but you are now poised with the awareness some of your players will be thrown to the fire. your roster is no longer players, but assets or liabilities. you make the playoffs in both leagues. in your keepers you didn't draft too many guards, as you wanted to have bigs just for in-season convenience. but everyone in your league dabbled on some rookies, so you didnt feel that bad about your guard punt, all things considered. you of course make the playoffs in all leagues, since you knew how to be flexible, and always scrapped, no matter who it was. you deserve it. you are skilled. you always avoid overkills and under kills, and maximize your roster's games played every week. no one can fuck with you except for the secret, quiet geniuses of fantasy nba. you steam roll your redraft leagues, as you just simply have more tools than everyone, and no one else is a level 8 manager. you take some losses, but it was due to massive injury/ games played luck. in your keeper leagues you meet new managers. they all seem pretty solid. there are some managers doing predictable things, and there are some doing some strange things. in one league, one guy did something similar to you last year: drafted a lot of guards and forwards, but he actually reached for more bigs than you did. you sniped ones late. this guy was reaching for some bigs who shot and passed. had no blocks or fg%, and probably would lose rebounds and TO's. he looked semi-stupid and limited. in your other keeper league there was a guy who did what you were doing: drafting a lot of bigs. you think you know what he was doing, and felt threatened by him. first time in a while. he too looked limited, but you assumed he was going to stream like you to suppliment it. you hate his existence deeply. you snipe each other regularly and it's a brutal draft.
as per usual, you finish around the one seed in the regular season, and the guards manager is the 5th seed, and the bigs manager is the 4th seed.
you lost to both managers in season a lot, but you beat everyone else by more than they did. you kinda see your fate coming, but you're riding high knowing you're getting a bye. they both win their matchups 5-4, winning the same 5 categories they controlled all year, while the higher potential teams didnt put their shit together enough. you lose to those managers in the same way everyone else did. you knew to watch them heavily, but you got hopeful when they had their bad weeks and your amazing weeks. you think you know why it happened. you think back to draft night where you thought you had more opportunities to play after the draft than those guys. and you did. you were competitive in 6 categories, and strong in 4. you think, "that's normal. that's what everyone does. i just normally do it better". correct again.

level 9.
you think about what you could have done different and see that you guys did very similar things. why did their's play out better? is it luck? you REALLY want to think that. you think about what categories they won and see that they controlled certain categories all year, pretty much like you. you then noticed how bad they were in 3-4 categories. REALLY bad. you were only really bad at 2 things. then it hit you: it's not about whether if 6 is more than 5, but whether about 5 is more than 4. their losses did not hold them back more than you despite having more, because playoff winning doesn't reward not losing. you realized you missed the point this whole time. it was never about talent evaluation, having a good team, winning categories, or improving your potential. it was about the easiest way to the minimal win threshold. if chasing a larger goal requires more work/ luck, than that strategy loses its efficiency, and thus effectiveness, relative to whatever strategy reaches the minimal win condition easiest. you've reached the beginning of fantasy nba 9 cat bible. everything else is either just you beating on noobs, exploiting a unique scoring system that requires less thought than a popular format which millions of people have put thought into.
9 is not better than 5 in 9 cat h2h playoff scoring. the correct way to analyze data on players is not to equate their overall potential, but their ability to *hold down* and win categories, which you then scale on a tier list of 0-5. anything under 5 is ineffective. anything past 5 becomes not more potential, but a distraction from the core of winning (strategy efficiency).

level 10. how to evaluate which categories to play/punt relative to your league settings. and how to plan for someone sniping players who were essential to your punt.if you draft a player who is good at 7 things, but there aren't enough players in your pool who you do 7 things, and have reason to think you can draft where you plan on getting them, you lose ground en route to the minimal win threshold, relative to any manager getting to 5 categories easier than you, even with that top pick. some players are more hyped than others, and have a higher chance of being selected earlier than others. if you require getting big names or "great fantasy players", then you actually have a higher chance of being exploited. players don't matter. players doing 5 similar things matter. you only get +1, 0, or -1 for every h2h category. once you make the playoffs, it's about getting to +1 easier.

the puzzle a manager needs to understand is this: if one team literally goes 5-4 every week, and there is another manager who goes 9-0 every week except when he plays manager 1, manager 1 is a theoretically unbeatable team with a worse record but *GUARANTEED* of playoff success. if you're the best team at 4 catgories and the 2nd best at 5, while another manager is the worst at 4 categories and best at 5, the 5-4 manager is superior at winning a 9 cat h2h playoff league.

if you can't percieve how less can be more within roster building, then you will lose to the player who can percieve it, unless injuries kill them.

it's false data analysis to stray from the minimal winning condition in favor of a higher waste potential, just because it has the words "higher" and "potential". you don't make progress in fantasy nba with 0's and -1's. it's easier to get -1's than +1's; therefore, whatever results in you LEAVING a matchup with a +1 from before, is superior to anything else.

i wont go into money payment setups or non 9 cat h2h leagues, as those have high volatility and random person incentives that have nothing to do with the game.

if you want to be a better player who is able to deal with more types of problems and attacks from other player strategies in 9 cat, hold down, don't chase.

if you want success, just play bad players or make a league of all your emails. you will have *guaranteed* success.
with that said, the answer of what is the best category to play is answered by what you shouldn't punt: the category you can expect to find on the wire at any time, no matter how big your league is. if your league is under 100 players rostered, anything can go. if you play yahoo standard, 156 players are rostered, and the drawpile is smaller, and you have to be the one to play those categories harder and faster than the next guy.
"but what if i can approach more categories from extremely different players?" even if i grant you that, it's not about approaching. it's about creating a +1 more than avoiding -1's, since only a +1 is only generated from wins. it's hard to tie due to the lack of control over denominations, leaving +1 and -1 as the only feasible denominations of outcomes within the matchup. volume wins you 6 of the categories. efficiency only wins you 3. this is why volume is inherently 2x as powerful as efficiency within 9 cat h2h, which means you have less of a chance of creating a +1 if you focus on playing effiency, particularly if you have to face streamed rosters who inflate their volume, while you are stuck in your slavery to categories that can't necessarily be streamed. if 3 of your 5 hold downs aren't volume based, you have less of a chance of winning/ generating a +1 than the person who is tied to more volume hold downs.
if anyone knows how to shit on my data anlysis level, please let me know what level 11 looks like.
