Have you ever been in a car accident? What happened?

I have always felt like I had bad luck with driving cars. I just got a speeding ticket and just 2 days later I rear ended someone. I feel like a joke. A failure. An embarrassment. My parents are super angry at me. I am frustrated with myself. Is it the worst thing in the world to rear end someone? It’s my first ever accident in my 5 years of driving. I just want to hide in a hole

I recently got into an accident and got advised to buy a dashcam for my car so here we are. Not sure if it matters but I have a relatively small hatchback.

I know I’m not alone here. No one, not one single relative has epilepsy. I never had an injury, never got in a car accident, there’s no indication or reason why this happened to me.
I was a 17 year old girl, who just passed her drivers license exam, and gotten my official drivers license. I even had a car for myself and was one of the lucky kids to get a parking permit for the school lot so I could drive to school instead of taking the bus. What a year that was. Got my license in May of 2003..then in September of that year I had my very first seizure. I was so freakin confused.
I had heard of epilepsy before but really didn’t know much about it. As soon as the doctor saw my EEG and tests he knew right away I had Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy. My mom cried. She already had one chronically ill child (my brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 5). There’s also zero history of type 1 diabetes in my family as well.
When the doctor told me I couldn’t drive that’s when it hit me. I remember sobbing falling off the hospital bed. That’s when I knew my life would never be the same. He went on to tell my mom I wouldn’t be able to have children (I have 3 btw).
I have literally never let this go. I’ve asked countless doctors why, and they all say the same thing, it’s genetic with a lot of “probably” in there. I know I can’t be mad at the doctors for not being able to tell me why, because everything I’ve read about JME is that it’s not known. And that it’s lifelong. And treatment is life long.
My seizures came back after 11 years of laying dormant, like a volcano or something. Thankfully my doctor increased my meds and they have been under control for 4 years in May. After they came back, my doctor offered me the option to stay in the Epilepsy monitoring unit for a week to help me understand more. I happily agreed. My meds were taken away, and all it took was one dose. One..single..missed dose..to cause me to have a seizure again. Talk about upping my fears on my medication dependence!
Yeah it was good for testing, they got it all on video and EEG. We learned I’ll never be a candidate for brain surgery due to where my seizures come from in my brain. Oh and I also have a cyst on my temporal lobe which could be why I’m losing my memory so badly.
Anyway, I know that was long but I’m up late and reflecting that I’m never gonna let this go. Tell me how you feel. Are you in the same boat?
TLDR: I’ve had epilepsy for almost 20 years and I’m still angry I don’t know why.

Car has been my wife’s DD for 12 years. It’s a 2011 GTI w/DSG and has over 110,000 miles, 2 minor accidents (not at-fault but probably on Carfax). It can’t be worth more than $5k private party and probably more like $3k on a trade.
Things I know it needs:

• The timing chain pre-tensioner in this model is defective and there is a TSB for it with a fix but VW never warrantied it. This is a ticking time bomb. Would be done at the same time as the timing chain. Those two things alone are easily $2,000.
  
• DSG service. It’s due for the third one, now by both time and miles. We did the first one by miles and the second one prematurely by time. It’s due for another. $500.
  
• direct injection walnut blast - this hasn’t been done for at least the last 50k miles. Maybe 60k. It’s overdue. I don’t remember how much this was.
  
• The car has a lot more squeaks and harshness than it used to. Do I really want to start messing with suspension?
  
• We are still on original brakes (pads and rotors). I kinda can’t believe it. Has to be due soon. $500-$750.

I looked into the statistics and homicide rates in New Hampshire and suicide rates among females in Massachusetts to see what they were.
New Hampshire has a very low homicide rate, it was 1.3 people per 100,000 people in 2004, and it's been around 15 to 20 people killed each year. In 2004, 17 people were killed by homicide. I estimate that less than four of them were women. This is based on historical data of the ratio of women homicide victims to male victims.(77% male to 23% women). I could not find any actual data on the number of women killed each year, or their ages, but I would guess a fairly low rate of women under 25 being killed in New Hampshire
For Massachusetts, the homicides rates are a bit higher at 2.67 per 100,000 people. Maybe around 40 women in total in 2004.
Across all female homicides in the US from 1980 to 2008, 41% were by partners or ex-boyfriends, 17% were by family members, 30% were by other known people and acquaintances, and only 12% were by complete strangers.
So it's a very rare occurrence that a woman would be killed by a stranger. Maybe once every 3 to 5 years. Maura was also basically hitchhiking which is also an uncommon thing to do. And we don't know if Maura went somewhere with someone, known or unknown to her.
Suicide percentages between men and women are similar to homicide victims, about 75% men and 25% women.
As for female suicides in Massachusetts, it was around 3.2 women per 100,000 women at that time. For the last 10 years it's been around 150 women in MA committing suicide per year. I can't find the numbers for women in MA 2004 but I would estimate it to be around 120 based on 429 total reported suicides in 2004. I believe about 12% of those would be in the 15-24 age range, or about 15 women. The actual number for suicides in this age range I found is 8 in 2004, but there's also 13 "Injuries of Undetermined Intent" for females of this age which I suspect may include suicides and overdoses. There were also 7 reported female homicides in this age range in Massachusetts in 2004, and 42 deaths from unintentional injuries like car accidents.
I would say looking at the data that it's more likely a young woman like Maura died in some other way than being killed by someone in New Hampshire just based on how uncommon homicides are in New Hampshire. Although since Maura's body has never been found or any of her possessions, that indicates she was killed or at least her body was hidden and her death not reported.
