2023.06.04 13:29 CommandOdd4843 Rented out our newly built tiny cottage next to our house: betrayed and disrespected, this is why people turn old, bitter and won't help you.

Had a neighbor with trashy daughter in her 40s just getting out of rehab. Rented her our brand newly built small cabin on discount because we were still building another cabin next door for a year, thought she could be the on-site cook and cleaner and manager for our rentals, what could go wrong, her father was right across the street?It didn't end well. What kind of person accepts a lease at half price in exchange for getting a newly built furnished rental setup (just taking stickers off and making sure everything is working, no construction it was just completed) and doing light landscaping, then turns around and tells all their neighbors the landlord is a slumlord for not setting up the new house and not doing landscaping, fails to pay the half-price rent on time for 12 out of 24 months, refuses regular employment from landlord because they'd receive a W2 and were afraid to lose disability benefits, then goes to work for some other W2 job paying less, scratches up literally every wall in the house (all pine), dents or otherwise defaces every one of the new appliances, breaks the laundry machine and doesn't notify landlord until months out of warranty, lets their dog chew up furniture, defecate, and urinate on the new deck without cleaning it (creating stains), leaves the brand new house in a condition requiring over 16 man-hours of scrubbing and cleaning not to mention actual repairs and refurbishments, and then is upset that their $1k deposit wasn't returned (despite there being about $3k in damages)? LOLOL Rhetorical question, just wondering... umm... venting... (I already know the answer: the child of a parent who co-signs on an house for them then doesn't even respond when contacted about the many situations, basically says so sue them.) If they weren't neighbors (or friends at one time), that's exactly what I'd do. Think I'd learn after 2 decades being a landlord of a few dozen rentals. But no. Shame on me. This is why people don't help other people.

This post presents a philosophical idea inspired by the text of today’s Daf. The Daf is one page in the Talmud that tens of thousands of people study each day. I explain the connection to the text in a comment below. My purpose is to show that there are underlying philosophical assumptions in the Talmud that can have great significance for anybody today trying to understand our complex reality.
We want our behavior to be based on logical principles. We believe that following well-defined principles will help us achieve our goals. Additionally, logical and predictable behavior will help us coordinate with others and is more likely to lead to effective cooperation, which will further our interests and values.
This is true for individuals, but it is also true for society as a whole. When a society is governed by rules that everyone can understand, and when all its members can make correct inferences about the implications of these rules for their decisions, then everyone can prosper.
The problem with easily expressed verbal rules is that they don’t always work in the real world. Obviously, one problem is that people are biological organisms with a large set of powerful emotional and instinctive drives that can often overrule their rational intentions. However, another important factor that undermines the idealized rational vision is the nature of logic itself.
Rules that can be expressed in words are necessarily simplifications. Even if we could create sufficiently complex verbal formulations, the added complexity would make the rules irrelevant for ourselves and others. Our brains are too limited to calculate within complex logical systems. The problem with a convoluted logical system is not just emotional, it is also rational.
This problem is made worse by the fact that we often want to pursue multiple values, which can sometimes conflict with each other.
We nevertheless value oversimplified, artificially constrained logical challenges. Whether in the form of games, single-minded planning in real life, or advocating utopian solutions to our problems, these mental exercises stretch and develop our rational skills. The trick is to remember that the real world doesn't always work that way.

So to try and keep it short. Very ltr ended a few years back, db for about 2 years before the end. I (47m)never dated or had any interest in women until about two months ago when a friend suggested going on a dating app . I actually kind of “turned off” the sexual part of me.
I signed up to a dating site a while back and ended up talking with a woman (35) for about a month who matched. She seemed really nice and we seemed to click, the way she was really got me interested.
We met in person a week ago and she seemed really into me. She wanted to see me pretty much every day since. Each time we met it got pretty intense.
I always had a high sex drive and she seemed to match that. There was lots of intimacy all week.
Also for context she has children and it’s difficult for her to get childcare, so normally they are upstairs asleep. This plays on both our minds a lot and I have a horrible fear of them waking up.
So last night it got to the point where all the touching and closeness got too much for both of us. She wanted it as much as me and it felt amazing to be wanted again.
So we were just about to get down to it and I heard a noise. This just killed it for me, I couldn’t get a proper hard on after that.
Like I said I haven’t been physically close to a woman for many years and struggled a bit with it being someone else. My last experience was my ex.
I also worried as although she was saying a lot of very suggestive stuff and her body language was encouraging, when I felt her she wasn’t wet. Again maybe I’m making comparisons but every woman I’ve ever been with has been really wet before the act itself.
I know she has stuff going on, but also wondered if she was really feeling it at all?
It felt so frustrating as we both wanted each other. She seemed cool about it and seemed to understand and I’m seeing her again today.
So after all that info I guess my question is how was it for you guys men and women on your first time with someone else?
Am I worrying over nothing? Maybe a bit of big match nerves on both our parts added to the mix?

2023.06.04 13:28 Apprehensive_Chef909 AITA for reminding my friend about a payment owed

I (36f) got banned on Venmo due to a customer doing a chargeback on an order they had received (I sell candles and bathbombs, I know they received it as package was signed for, if they were unsatisfied for whatever reason I would have refunded had they just asked but they went straight to disputing), this Venmo was a business account.
However I still heavily rely on it for business; I'm a small business owner and it's what many of my customers use to pay.
So a friend of mine has agreed to take Venmo payments on my behalf and I told her for her help she can take 10% of the proceeds; and I only use this as a last resort if customer can't pay another way (cashapp, zelle, PayPal etc).
She is good at remembering to send the payment but one time a month or so ago when I asked her she felt insulted when I asked her if it had been received because she "never forgets" (and which is true up to that point she hasn't), I wasn't implying that she forgot, I just had a deadline to get a discount on a bulk order for some supplies and wanted to see if I'd be able to make it or not, I wasn't trying to insult her memory/remembering skills.
Anyway she owed me a recent payment this time she did forget because she sent me.$$ from another order in the week and thought "she already did it" and I told her no that was another customer, that was two days ago and she said "ok I'll do it later."
I however two days later didn't receive it and I have to pay my rent, so I tried to be super gentle about it and say "hey when you send the zelle payment please send it to xyz account as that's where my rent comes out" again she gets insulted that I'm implying she'll forget (though it did seem like she genuinely did forget, and I tried to be as gentle and diplomatic about it as possible).
AITA for reminding her again?
EDIT: when I say I use Venmo as a last resort; I mean I use that if that's the absolute only way the customer is able.to/willing to pay

2023.06.04 13:28 H663 Is so called "Bitcoin adoption" pointless and unnecessary?

Everyone is always talking about "Bitcoin adoption" and posting pictures of businesses accepting Bitcoin. But do we actually need that?
I say that because whenever I research anything about Bitcoin self custody, all the advice, even from the vendors a lot of the time, is all like 'only order directly from the vendor, and we'll ship it to you in a tamper proof bag, and use a PO box and get your mail forwarded from there so that nobody has your address'. And then all the self custody advice is like 'and you have to run your own electrum server so that nobody can see what you're doing at all', and 'you need to protect yourself from thieves and the government!'.
And then we're meant to have all these businesses with massive Bitcoin signs, like 'hey look over here, look at us, we have Bitcoin, come and get your Bitcoin here!'
How can both of those things be sustainable simultaneously?
From a security perspective, one of the only things which has improved over the last few decades is that as money has become more digital and more controlled and monitored, it's become harder to steal. And I understand the logic that if nobody knows you have Bitcoin, and all they think you have is government monopoly money that's fully tracked and can be reversed if stolen, and used to catch them and lock them, then they won't try and steal from you because that would be futile. So you'd better keep the fact that you have Bitcoin very private.
So if we have "adoption" doesn't that just mean that muggings and robberies are going to go up like a million fold? And won't even more serious kidnappings and ransom attacks become way more possible?
Wouldn't it be better instead if Bitcoin was only used at the institutional level, or at the personal level for settling large transactions? And even more so if the block reward goes to 0 and only fees sustain the network! In that scenario, it would always make sense to pay high fees for an occasional extremely high value transaction. But for buying a coffee, why not just use the government fake money? Seriously, I'd rather walk around town with my tracked government fake money that can't be stolen, buy a coffee or whatever, and just keep my Bitcoin fully private, but still in my own custody maybe with multisig (although like I said I do worry about how rich people are going to be targeted in future). But you see my point hopefully. Who cares about CBDCs even if your savings are all in Bitcoin. Isn't the most convenient, idiot proof, and cheap form of money the best for day to day transactions? So why do we need Bitcoin adoption? I don't go around spending gold bars, why would I go around spending Bitcoin? Am I missing something here?

I installed it through “http:/127.0.0.1:7860” on my Mac. But after a day the page shows me safari can not open the website and can not connect the server 127.0.0.1. Can anyone tell me which step I skip or the reason cause that. Also this is my first time trying do that kind of things, where can I find the stable diffusion folder in Mac exactly which I only can found it through searching the key word”stable diffusion”, but with out the search, it seems like I didn’t install it. That’s my question, thanks a lot🙇🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️

So I’ve finally been offered the RAV I’ve been waiting for. I didn’t have to wait long (3 months) for a fully loaded XSE in the color I wanted. The cars seem to be coming in fast at this dealer (2 XSEs an allocation), so I’m wondering if it hurts to ask if they would be willing to take $1000 off at signing. It’s an MSRP dealership in VA and the sales guy seems pretty reasonable. I plan on already buying their $900 warranty/ service package….so my question is if anyone out there has been able to squeeze the tiniest deal on a new RAV hybrid at signing in the more recent 2023 market?

Hi, I have a question about crypto wallet and confirming transactions. I'm working on a project that uses blockchain infrastructure. I want to learn how to handle confirming transactions by user except Metamask. Maybe that is odd but our target users prefers feel blokchain effect as minimal as possible. Is there any way to provide confirming transactions with embeded user wallet in the app instead of Metamask by user while still using blokchain infrastructure. I mean, I want users wont see details of transactions, they just will confirm via embeded wallet in the app . Also,signing transactions needs PK but in this way how it can be done ? Thanks

Hi,
Miatas have been my childhood dream. I had given up on them since they are pricey. Recently I came across a good deal on an used Miata. I have negotiated and happy with the price. I am yet to sign the contract. I am staying in the US temporarily and this is probably my only chance to ever own a miata and drive.
The things that concern me are
  1. Safety : Have you had any issues on freeway with miatas? I see a lot of remarks on the internet "small car, you are not visible". This really scares me. I do plan to go hiking every few weeks which involves about an hour of freeway driving. What can I do to increase safety?
  2. Visibility within the car : I dont like certain sedans because of lack of visibility of the road. How do you manage to drive in the rain?
This car will be my daily drive. Rather, I dont plan to take this to work because of the expensive parking issue in the NorthWest. Is there anything else I should keep in mind before I make this decision?
