2023.03.25 02:16 Dalton0726 Recent upgrade not getting the performance I should be.

Hello friends, novice PC gamer here. I recently upgrade from my 2070 super to a 4070ti gpu x i9-9900k cpu. First game I’ve tried is Monster Hunter Rise and Re4 remake. I’m getting some boosted performance in some areas when playing Rise but others it’s around what I was getting in my 2070 super such as in the middle of the Citadel area going to around 60-70 fps on max settings. In Re4 remake with Ray Tracing off, 3440 x 1440p balanced settings my fps ranges between 40-100 fps depending on what area such as the intro village scene. Even when I decrease graphic settings and resolution my performance as well as cap frame rate 60 isn’t getting boosted much and I can even hold 60 fps consistently. Is my cpu holding me back or is typical performance for this card? I figured I’d be able to play games at over 100 with ray tracing off at least when gaming at 3440p.

Hello. My brother got me into PC gaming 30+ years ago which sort of spiraled into a career in technology - what better way to thank him all these years later than building him a cool gaming PC. He hasn't had the time for PCGaming for many years but has always been interested in what I am up to and followed the scene. He has not managed to find the time and pull the trigger and get back into it now that we are all grown up with kids. I decided to build him this after researching various components and getting the idea. Very happy with how this turned out. I was averaging over 120 FPS on ultrawide, settings all the way up, with "Ready or Not" and the temps looked great. I'll be stress testing it later and posting more in the comments.

Notes about the build: I'm sure some are curious about the radiator orientation. The card is long enough that the PSU housing has to sit at the height it is sitting at. Therefore, the radiator tubing had to go on the left side, the way I did it, in order to not crimp any of the tubing with hard angles. I think it turned out like a tasteful coil around the waifu cooler.

The case can fit mATX but I wasn't really enthusiastic about the options for z790 chipset - very happy with how the ROG Strix ITX board turned out. It ended up pulling enough of the components over that I am considering another display within the case. I'll post an update if that happens.

My only critique would be the tiniest knock on Asus for not including an RGB splitter / fan splitter. For such an expensive board - why not? I was able to handle that with a couple pieces off of Amazon.
The AIO cooler directions could have been a little clearer but maybe it is because it is only my second AIO cooler install.
The case is great and perfect for what I wanted to do. I think 2.0 with a larger monitor, they could use that real estate to reposition the power supply back on the cable management side in its own channel (similar to my personal case, the Lian Li xl 011) - and use the new horizontal real estate for more cable management and airway for cooling. This could also open up some front fans while keeping the screen. Having said all of this - Everything worked great. It was very satisfying to get all the parts to fit in a working configuration. The only real testing I have to do is see if it makes sense for that rear fan to be set to exhaust or intake. It is currently intake and the temps are very cool. CPU idling in the low to mid 30s.
The case screen is great - it fits right in with the case and comes with mini hdmi / usb c cabling to power and run video to. Classic 90s animes look amazing on Wallpaper Engine.

I was gifted a pretty old PC that I would like to completely replace. I normally game on console but would like to make the jump to PC and build one that will last a few years at least. I know pretty much nothing about parts and pc's except for all the reviews and videos I've been watching for the past month.
I play a lot of video games from competitive FPS with low quality graphics needed like OW2 and started playing CSGO, to new AAA single player releases like Hogwarts Legacy and games like Cyberpunk 2077, REVillage, RDR2, I also want to use emulators like Yuzu (switch), Adobe apps, Unity and Blender for mods for Yuzu games. I might also get another monitor so I can either stream gameplay or so I can stream sports while playing.

Any feedback would be great, if there's anything I missed please let me know. $3k was my limit, I have a good enough keyboard and mouse and mousepad that I want to keep them. I believe thermal paste comes with the cooler, zip ties come with the PSU and that my motherboard has two connectors that I can split for the 6 fans and I have those cables listed as well. Is the PSU overkill? How can you tell?
Also I'm interested in my path to upgrade - if I wanted to eventually go to a 4090/7950x3D or switch to something next generation, how many other parts would I need to upgrade as well? The Ryzen 8000 was just announced to be coming this year

2023.03.24 21:13 TheThingsWeMake First re-build in many years. Help me avoid making a mistake.

Upgrading from a very old unit, currently with a GTX 970. I haven't been in the market for a long time and it's changed, so I am hoping you folks can prevent me making a mistake or wasting cash. I'm in Canada, so prices/availability may be a bit different from US.
Use case is gaming and some multidiscipline design and production work. Would like ray-tracing.
Considering the Plus version of this MOBO over the Pro. Both are a bit overpriced here as they are currently sold out in a few places, but that won't last. Picked Pro based on headers and better WiFi/Ethernet for future.

Finally finished picking all the parts for my new PC, anything I'm missing about why I wouldn't want some of these? Planning on pulling the trigger tomorrow
Debated between the 13700K and the 7700X but my understanding is that my GPU would be somewhat bottle necked by this processor, and the Intel had better temps
As for GPU, I'd really have liked to pick up one of the new 7900 XTs but the temperatures are just waaaaay too high, and the 4070 Ti had similar performance for the price, albeit less VRAM

Hello everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to read this post and adding any helpful insights you may have. As the title suggests, I'm attempting to build a "better than most" gaming computer.
To start, the budget is around $2500ish with wiggle room. This PC is primarily used for gaming and streaming - no 3D rendering/Streaming/Modeling workload. No overclocking will be done.
Here are my questions to you:
1) PC will be air cooled - using provided case fans... is that sufficient air flow? In addition, what about the CPU cooler? The "slim" dark rock was selected since I wasn't sure if the regulapro would hit the memory cards.
2) Video card selected is a STAND IN for the yet released RTX 4070. The hope is to snatch this card on release for MSRP then build around it. If not possible, what would be a good equivalent?
3) I'll be using the motherboard's built in wireless (hence the AX instead of the AC). Assuming almost ideal conditions, will it suffice in terms of 500+ Mps speeds or should I get a dedicated adapter?
4) Did I select the correct DDR 5 speed for the CPU and motherboard?
5) Lastly, did I match the potential video card with an appropriate ~27" monitor assuming regular 1440 or maybe 4k every once in a while?
PS: And NO - I will NOT be buying Windows 10 for full price - I'll get a key else where but left it there as a place holder in case anyone was wondering.

So I’ve had an issue that I’m not sure when it started. But I have a 3090 and I noticed my games run smoother whenever i alt tab and I see the game running in the background. The game also runs smoother(but looks worse when I reduce the resolution).
My main monitor is a “Dell UltraSharp U2715H 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor” from 2018 with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 Pixels 60hz I think
My secondary is “Gigabyte G27F 27" 144Hz 1080P Gaming Monitor, 1920 x 1080 “
Hope you guys can help me out because googlefu hasn’t had much luck for me and this is driving me CRAZY.

2023.03.24 14:55 timmeey86 FS20 (Mobile/Switch) Strategy: Better Harvester + Direct Seeder in less than two hours

Note: This is about Farming Simulator 20, the game available for Android/iOS/Switch
I recently had some time to kill on my mobile phone and tested a new starting strategy for FS20.
This strategy makes use of the following facts:

The game is extremely grindy, so I don't care at all how realistic my playstyle is
The game lets you start with random amounts of starting crops (and random prices)
A lot of things can be pulled quite well with a heavily underpowered tractor

So here it is:

Restart a new game until you get at least 14000 liters each of canola, sunflowers and soybeans (can be skipped, but will result in more grinding)
Sell your starting cultivator (Rabe), seeder (Alpego) and trailer (Strautmann)
Buy the Joskin Trans-SPACE 8000 trailer (31000l for 35000$)
Open the settings, set game speed to 45x and turn helper refuelling off. If you are like me, turn traffic off, too ;-)
Use your Fendt Tractor and the new trailer to sell 1-2 crops which are at a good price. Feel free to temporarily reduce the speed to real time to make sure you don't miss the offer. Based on the maximum prices I've seen, I usually sell above these values (around 90% of supposed max):
1. Wheat: 740
2. Barley: 680
3. Oats: 1080
4. Canola: 1340
5. Sunflowers: 1440
6. Soybeans: 1720
7. Corn: 780
Once you have at least 115000$, buy the Horsch Pronto 9 DC seeder (direct drill + fertilizer). Reset your Case tractor to the shop, attach the seeder, fill it with seeds and fertilizer at your farm and start seeding the smallest and the biggest of your fields
Once your wheat field reaches its last growth stage, start harvesting that with your harvester. Seed soybeans on it afterwards
In the meantime, use your Fendt to sell off more crops whenever applicable, or unload your harvester on the wheat field
Keep selling stuff (including your first soybean harvest) until you reach about 120000$.

At this point, you basically have the following options:

Fastest: Sell your Case tractor and use only your Fendt for hauling and seeding (the Fendt can seed your fields with the Horsch drill even though it technically lacks 100 HP).Sell your harvester + harvester headerThat should leave you with around 350000$. Use that money to buy the John Deere T560 harvester with the 625 X header=> You can now grind more money with a lot less effort
Slower: Like option 1, but sell your Fendt tractor instead of the Case one. This will require you to grind about 55000$ more, though.This route is favourable if you want to go for pigs, since your Case can actually pull the 400 HP cultivator, which is the lowest HP upgrade to the starter cultivator (the one between that is basically a seeder)
A lot slower: Like option 1, but grind 144500$ more cash and buy the John Deere S790 harvester + header
Even slower: Like option 3, but sell the Fendt instead of the Case. Requires grinding 200000$ more than option 1

In either case, more fields should be the next thing you purchase (even if you go fro animals afterwards), until you can keep your harvester running non-stop
If this is still too grindy for you, do a paid overtime hour at your job and buy a million coins ingame from that - Giants made sure that nothing you will do ingame will get you there remotely as quickly ;-) (Disclaimer: Varies on local economy - not possible in all countries/jobs)
