We have finally arrived to the longest post of this series. Boy, did this take forever...
Let's just get into it I say, shall we?
Samira
I like her a lot, but even if I didn't, she's just a damn good material for skin ideas. I mean I don't remember when was the last time I came up with so many for a single champion.
BilgewateCaptain: Tattoos? Check. Gun and sword? Check. Eye patch? Check. Certified pirate material.
Battle Queen: Undeniably is one.
Crime City: Having a gun is already more than enough. Would also just love to see her in Renata's outfit.
DragonslayeBeast HunteZombie Slayer: I believe she got both the bravery and the skill for all of these jobs. Especially good weapon combination for ZS, probably I'd make the sword into a machete.
Vandal/Road Warrior: Just put some leather and spikes on her gear, maybe a motorcycle on the recall. That'd be bad as hell. In a good way.
Odyssey/Dreadnova: Galactic bounty hunter.
Tomb Raider: I have a feeling she'd love the thrill of dodging a hundred deadly traps to get some shiny treasure.
Vigilante/Supervillain: Honestly she could both be a hero or villain. Her acrobatics, weapons and general coolness already make this fitting. Something like a female deadpool perhaps.
Cyber Pop: Straight outta Edgerunners, a female cyborg supersoldier. I'd make half her body metal, which would also work very nicely with her half eye.
Project: At some point she needs a project skin, she's just too good of a fit. Kinda similar to CP, but visually the two are distinguishable so I'd keep both.
Pentakill: I'm not sure if she needs an instrument to be in Pentakill or not, I just thought the aesthetics fit her nicely, plus her name is basically a synonym for Pentakill.

Sejuhoney: Riding a giant adorable bee.
Catjuani: Riding a giant adorable kitty.
Elderwood: Riding a giant - not necessarily adorable but more fantasy based forest creature.
High Noon: Riding a bull.
Senna
Buccaneer: Like Tristana's skin, but her cannon would bee a bit bigger. Actually, a lot bigger.
Broken Covenant: Similarly to the design of her base cannon, but with lots of stained glass.
Odyssey: Give Karma a giant laser cannon and it's done.
Pulsfire: Out of all, this is porbably the skin that would make the most out of her extraordinary firearm. Basically combine Pulsfire Riven's sword with Caitlyn's gun and make it even bigger and even techier.
Seraphine
Academy: She has the schoolgirl vibes, she might be part of a music clique or club.
Cafe Cuties: She has the vibes and the outfit also matches.
Crystal Rose: Something elegant but still light and pretty.
Goldenthroat: A DnD/Rift Quest skin, she is a perfect fit for a bard archytype, since their core theme is music and performing. Couldn't think of a better name rn.
Sett
Battle Wolf: He's more wolf than Sylas is, so he has a rightful place here. It's not like he doesn't belong here at all.
Battle Academia: Jayce type of pretty boy vibes is what I imagine.
El Lobo: If anyone, this man is a flawless fit for the Luchador skin line. Like that ultimate is a wrestler move already.
Super: A standard superstrength-punchy hero, works I reckon.
Cyber Pop: Remember Jax? No, not six-eyed Jax, the other Jax from Mortal Kombat. Thaaat Jax. Hell yeah.
Shaco
Devil: I'm not the first to come up with this idea, but it's truly not a bad one.
Omen of the Dark: You could do so many things with his mask here, but a basic plague doctor outfit would work perfectly fine too.
Blood Moon: He's an assassin so I don't need further reasons.
Surprise Party: He's a literal clown, I mean-
Fright Night: This is frankly less of a skin and more of a chance to redesign the character so it actually lives up to the "Demon Jester" title. Give me the Pennywise.
Shen
While looking for skins for this guy, I realised that he may have a simple-a$$ design, but unlike Garen, it's in a good way, because he literally works with almost any freaking skin line lmao. Well at least that's what I felt like. And here I thought I got a lot for Samira haha. This is probably the new record with 14 skin ideas.
Debonair: So Shen being an older male character who is a master with duty etc. gives me the feeling of respectfulness, politeness, elegance etc. so I think he fits the vibe of Debonair pretty well, not to mention that he would get to be in one skin group with Zed, which is nice. Besides, it couldn't hurt to bring forward that 'daddy' energy he has hidden inside. Not too much, just tastefully. All his skins go for the cool ninja fantasy, it's high time for a different approach. (But please don't make him younger like Yi, eugh.)
Chef: Not sure what cuisine to go for, I simply imagined him in a chef's hat crossing his arms holding two big knifes - his swords - to chop something up.
Gatekeeper: Based on his connection to the spirit realm, I thought this would be a fitting skin that does something similar.
Balance Dragon: He has some things in common with Lee - who has Storm Dragon - and in general I find this a great fit.
Battle Professor: Like Grave's skin. Again, being an older master character, he has no issue filling a teacheprofessor role.
Full Metal: Since he doesn't have a fully robotic skin yet, I chose one for him. Like Pantheon or Jayce, just with different weapons.
Weightless Sword: The Immortal Journey group, I find no reason why he wouldn't work here.
Warden: Full silver armor, like Karma but male. The name already describes Shen well.
Odyssey: Just to have a space skin too, let's add this to the list as well. In this universe I think of him kinda like Heimdall, only instead of teleporting you anywhere, he teleports anywhere where you are, to save you. Shen fits Heimdall's character and thus the skin line perfectly imo.
Project: Needs not much explanation, he isn't a bad pick here either.
Shen Hai Scrolls: I could say I chose this purely for the pun, but honestly I could also see this actually work.
Spirit Blossom: Not because it's a popular skin line, but because Shen does in fact fit here flawlessly. SB has eastern aesthetics and he is a a ninja from Ionia. No wonder it works.
Ruined/Sentinel: Both sound equally interesting to me, eg. what if Viego gained access to the Spirit Realm? If I was him, I'd definitely try to choose useful people to corrupt and in this sense, Shen sounds like a damn useful one.
Officer: Just a little fun skin a the end, I could easily imagine Shen as a cop, with the swords being a normal (L shaped, well sort of) and an extandable baton, and at the ultimate he comes at the aid of an ally, aka, a law abiding citizen and arrests the enemies for attempted murder.
Shyvana
Justicar: White dragon with golden eyes, horns and talons. Light effects for abilities.
Elderwood/Old God: Some kinda forest dragon. Leaves for scales, brances for horns.
Dark Star: Saw this concept already somewhere, but I also thought it'd be pretty cool. What I really like about this is that it would make Shyvana be on one level with A'sol, the fight of the two cosmic dragons, hell yeah.
Broken Covenant: Imagine a dragon version of BC Cho. Could be awesome as hell.
Hextech: She could have some kind of special interaction with the hextech drake, like a dance or something, that would be so fun.
Lunar Guardian: I'd aim for a look like that of Malphite and Kha'zix. Yellow, brown and cloudy effects.
Emberwing: The DnD/Rift Quest skin line cannot be complete without a dragon BBEG.
Dawn-/Nightbringer: Can't explain it in too much detail, but it'd surely have epic vfx.
Worldbreaker: A gigantic dragon could surely fill this title. I'd definitely try to go for something that I suggested with A'sol, when I mentioned Quetzalcoatle, so a feathered dragon in this case.
Singed
Arcanist: He'd use some kind of spell potion.
Monster Tamer: He'd have a pokémon-like monster attached to his back that breathes toxic gases.
Guardian of the Sands: A big broken hourglass and the trail is sand.
Botanist: Some kind of poisonous plant in a big glass jar.
Sion
Execusion(er): Just put a black mask on him and he already looks like an executioner.
Marauder: Kinda like alistar but with a different helmet.
Fright Night: Probably too similar to the executioner, but you could do a couple of things with this guy to make him even more horroristic, since he already has a good base for it.
Beast Hunter: He got the body and the weapon to be one.
Gentleman: Like with Cho, just for the fun.
Zombie: I mean technically he already is one, so just make him and his spell effects green, and change his axe for a yellow sign that says "Warning! Zombie outbreak"
Sivir
Pirate: Throwing the ship's steering wheel.
Broken Covenant: I'd go for the warrior nun vibe like with MF, and ephasise the cross pattern on her weapon plus add some stained glass to it.
Fright Night/Zombie Slayer: The core idea here, is a buzz saw, either skin could be good for it.
Pool Party/Ocean Song: Same thing as with Qiyana, pool floaty.
Skarner
Blackfrost: Natural pick.
Broken Covenant: Some similar to Cho level monstrous look.
Hextech: Not much to say.
Infernal: Fire scorpion.
Lunar Guardian: Something like Kha'zix.
Kaiju/Worldbreaker: Giant scorpion.
Prehistoric: I'm sure it can work somhow.
Toy: His features could easily be made into toy parts.
Sona
Arcana: Idk, just felt like it's aesthetic enough for her.
Cafe Cuties: She matches the vibe plus you could do a couple of things with her instrument like use it as a counter and put muffins on it or idk. Maybe that's stupid, just a thought.
Cosmic Symphony: I think it could work and she could have some really epic vfx.
Porcelain: Very nice and subtle, matches Sona. Also, would love to see her with a more dark blue hair like Lux.
SilentChord: Same idea as Sera's Goldenthroat.
Soraka
Heartseeker: Just a good match.
Crystal Rose: Same.
Lunar Empress: Same.
SolaLunar Eclipse: She already has both Dawn- and Nightbringer, but her cosmic theme makes this fit her well too.
Cosmic Savior: Similar, but really just cosmic and not sun/moon themed.
Elderwood: Leans more into her fanatsy appearance and further emphasises it.
Pure Phoenix: Like Graceful Phoenix Sera, I thought it's a good fit. Besides a p's tear heals, doesn't it? Or is that only a thing in HP?
Order of the Lotus: Haven't used this skin line before so why not, but it's matches anyways, it's a bit like Spirit Blossom.
Ambulance: The best and funniest skin she could have, this is kinda her meme already, well, other than banana. Ambulance outfit, siren light and sound effect when she runs towards a low health ally.
Swain
Headmaster: Same as with Shen, an older character so he fits the role perfectly. I imagine a magical school that he leads and his ravens are owls instead. Think of it as if Lucius Malfoy was the headmaster of Hogwarts, with his personal owls.
Crime City Nightmare: The usual maffia boss thing, which suits him very well.
Elderwood: Would concentrate more on the birds and attach a forest theme through them.
Dreadnova: Dictator of a space nation.
Sylas
Guardian of the Sands: I think he would work in a shuriman/desert outfit and the golden chains fit that region too.
Hextech: He doesn't have a techy robotic skin yet besides Project so I chose this.
Infernal: Flaming chains.
Marauder: A more rough, armored look. Might add some spikes to the chains.
Ruined: Lore-wise I think it would be an interesting combo, because he's a key figure in Demacia.
Syndra
Pirate: Her balls are cannon balls.
Battle Boss: She easily fits this final arcade boss vibe.
Arcanist: A more mage look, something like Ziggs, who's bombs' design also work for her.
Beendra: The balls are cute round bees.
Cafe Cuties: She may not be the same kinda cutie as the others, but you can make the balls into teapots are some kinda sweets even.
Infernal: Fireballs.
Coven: Probably the best fit for her.
Dark Star: Although this one's close too, cause you can make the balls into black holes.
Fright Night: Eyeballs.
Space Groove: A more colourful, fun skin. Could just make her balls some of those bright orange jelly orbs.
Sugar Rush: Ice cream or just cherries, anything that's round and sweet.

With all due respect to money, but no one on the team lacks it. Calm came back, we played the game.

Lukasz Skorupski: I don't think so. I'm afraid that I would not play in Italy and I would stay in Poland and play in Ekstraklasa. I had talent, but without the discipline and working us to the ground he unleashed in me, I wouldn't have excelled.

The perfect coach at that moment for someone as defiant as you?

Łukasz Skorupski: I was tough, I had it in me, because it's family with us. We don't cry, we don't feel sorry for ourselves. Something really serious had to happen to go to the doctor. If you cut something, it's no big deal. For them, it was such a shame to cry at the doctor's office because something hurt. We grit our teeth and say hello. That's my whole family. What, I also did not go to coach Nawałka with such trifles. It was so with him that if there was a foul in training and someone was lying down, he would approach with a clear message: "You get up or it's time to leave training". Really. He was still asking. "What, an ambulance?! An ambulance?! Are we calling an ambulance or are you getting up?" And suddenly everyone got up. "And yet it doesn't hurt," he triumphed.

Did he end pretending?

Łukasz Skorupski: Everyone in the team finished. You know, when there was a perfidious tackle, then the coach would get angry and admonish: "Too much." But some kind of slide, a sharp entry, without crying. And man, at one point, no one cried anymore. Everyone got up immediately and developed a character on it. We were fucking going and we rode this rhythm. We walked like soldiers. I really appreciate it. Thiago Motta in Bologna also has such a character. It's like, "Something hurts? Okay, then get off the field." He doesn't care if it's me or someone else. For him, the most important thing is who works in training.

Once I talked to the referees, they said that Górnik was the easiest to ref. Because the players did not pretend, they did not argue with the referees. There was a ban from the coach.

Łukasz Skorupski: The coach threatened that if we get a yellow card for talking, we will be punished immediately. I'll tell you he was right about that. He showed how important details and discipline are. He gave me my debut in Ekstraklasa in Wrocław with Śląsk together with Milik and Olkowski. I owe him a lot, he developed my character, he taught me discipline.

Only four workouts a day.

Łukasz Skorupski: Just so you know that we really at the camps practiced three or four times a day. I remember the camp in Grodzisk Wielkopolski, where we started at six in the morning - oxygen, i.e. running. Honestly? I'll tell you, we complained, complained, and now I appreciate it. Łukasz Skorupski: The approach I got to know thanks to him in Górnik, I met after coming to Italy. In my opinion, it has been abroad for a long time, but not yet in Poland at that time.

You said that you and Nawałka keep in touch and write text messages.

Łukasz Skorupski: Sometimes the coach will talk after the match. At the World Cup, he wrote to me in his style: "Congratulations, we keep fighting." When I defended against the Netherlands or Chile, he texted me that it was a good match.

You sent back longer responses to show him you'd changed. No "Thank you", but a few lines.

Łukasz Skorupski: I have to let him know that this is another Łukasz Skorupski. Because you know, I changed with him, I was a bit of a boor. I grew up with Górnik fans, we were all the same in Zaborze.

Were you rude?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: You know that, well... When I met Nawałka in Górnik, man, he also started teaching me such kindnesses. "Thank you, please, why don't you talk like that?" he pointed out. And so to all players, not just me. Thank the lady at the laundry. Thank the lady in the kitchen.

Łukasz Skorupski: That "Nawala" was fucking awesome. Everyone knows that we worked hard and everything was arranged like in the army. But man... There was no money in Górnik, but he was able to arrange everything in such a way, to wind up the president of Zabrze that she paid us salaries every month. Because earlier in Górnik they paid once every six months. The coach came and we came to him to help with these payouts. He met with the president and they started paying monthly. We didn't have rarities, but some fruits appeared after training.

The fields had to be even.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: Bartek Spałek, our masseur, I remember that he took creatine, some other supplements, conditioners. Everything was coming in.

Was it Nawałka who introduced it?
​
Lukasz Skorupski: Yes! Earlier, come on, and he introduced such a greater professionalism - breakfasts in the club, dinners in the club. He was trying to put it all together. Although I remember, honestly, that sometimes we complained about it.

You called him Fidel.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: It was like that, we were exercising at the gym. He was looking one way and you did eight reps instead of ten. Right away he would be angry with you: "How much have you done?! Eight! Two more!". I don't know how he saw it, but he didn't miss a thing man, he saw it all. At one point, the team thought, "Well, there's no resisting and there's a ride. We're going this way." We didn't have any outstanding players, and we were standing well in the table, even in sixth place.

And many got promoted: you, Paweł Olkowski, Arek Milik.

Łukasz Skorupski: Each of us has gone abroad. It was so that when Nawałka started, I did not believe in such things at all. He brought Remek Rzepka to the club, I think he studied in America. And he introduced what the entire Ekstraklasa is doing now. And yet we are talking about what happened ten years ago in Poland. They were the first to introduce rollovers.

How did you react?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: I did it, but with the thought - what the fuck is this? Shall I roll some muscles? Some rubber, extra work? Give me the ball and the games. And they began to notice that motor skills are improving, that injuries are prevented. In Górnik, everyone had to be at the gym half an hour before training.

And you are doing it in Bologna now.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: It's normal abroad. In Poland, it came with coach Nawałka. You know how it was in Ekstraklasa. Earlier, probably with coach Wieczorek... Although I don't remember. Okay, never mind. I was already playing in the first team, and I would arrive at the club at 10:50. Five minutes to get changed and at 11 I left for training. End of training, bath and departure.

This would not work for Nawałka.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: You had to be in his locker room 45 minutes before training. Let me tell you, I really appreciate it now. The best coach I had in Poland. I always talked when I was playing for Górnik that coach Nawałka should join the national team. He's gonna make all these rules, damn it. And you see - he did some result.

Łukasz Skorupski: Damn, well... But let me tell you that at the national team it was a bit different. Lighter.
​
At the first team training camp in Grodzisk Wielkopolski there was also a similar drill, only the players told him to let it go.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: I wasn't there yet. He was so much more laid back after that. And you can't go like that during training sessions with the national team, because you play two matches a week. You come prepared from the club, you work on tactics without great strength and so on, because the match is coming soon. This is what it looks like in the national team. More could be done when it was EURO, where we had two weeks of preparation. Now at the World Cup, we didn't live in training either. All the time tactics and matches. But, you know, you've been in form because you're coming mid-season.

I always remember Coach Nawałka well. I don't know how he did it, because there was poverty in Górnik, but at some point we had everything I said - nutrients, some fruit after training. We were paid our salaries every month. We went to Zakopane for the camp. Oh Jesus. We stayed in one of the best hotels. And what the fuck, how much we ran. But let me tell you - I have respect for the fact that he developed such a character for me.

A lot of coaches could kick you out of the club for "Lorneta and Medusa", where you fought with other customers and trashed the place.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: Well fuck, that's why I'm telling you. He gave me a second chance, he did a great job. After it happened, I had a meeting with him at the club. I entered the coach room without knocking. I sat down on the sofa right away, I remember that. The coach looked at me strangely: "What are you doing?! Get up, leave and come back like a normal person." So I went out, this time I knocked. I sat down and told him everything how it was.

How did he react?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: Nice, because he said that he also did stupid things in his youth. It happens to young people, you know you have to go crazy. The most important thing for him was not to do it again. And I didn't repeat it. I didn't play in the first match after this action, but in the next round I was again in the lineup. I had a good season, my best in Ekstraklasa. Because you know, damn, I wanted to repay him a little.

Well, but he gave up on your brother.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: Not him, but club's board.

Michał was after a serious injury and trained as a guest with the first team of Górnik. He had a chance to stay.

Lukasz Skorupski: Exactly. He was injured, he did not have a contract with Górnik, but he could train with us. We just did this action in "Lorneta and Meduza" and they thanked him right away.

Łukasz Skorupski: Earlier there was an idea to offer him a contract. I got a penalty, Olo Kwiek got a penalty, Adam Danch got a penalty.

How did the 20-year-old, promising player in Ekstraklasa felt arrested?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: Four of us were in arrest - me, Adam Danch, Olek Kwiek and my brother. Each in a different cell. And man, what's going on down there? You sit and sleep with a break for food.

​
Łukasz Skorupski: A piece of bread and tea in a metal mug. Jesus. The worst days of my life. I promise you. The worst three days of my life! I had everything ruffled, you're lying in the same clothes. Nor bathe, only pee somewhere next to people.

Who were you sitting with?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: With a guy who sold drugs to someone else who died. You understand?

Lukasz Skorupski: Yes. Life is like that. I don't know how in Italy they will read it and ask: what the...? Even though it was ten years ago, write that it was ten years ago.

You had a black eye then.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: We sat in the same clothes and waited for them to take us out. We left after three days. We were pulled out by the late Krzysiu Maj with Bartek Laburda. Before that, there was also a sobering-up room. You go, you strip down to your panties and you sleep like that. Just so you know, because there are some psychos... They take their belts off, everything. You are lying on a mattress on the ground, and the worst thing is that there are twenty people in the room and there is no toilet.

How did Matilde react to all this when you told her what you were like?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: Well, she was in shock. But she also knows that I have changed. Also thanks to her. She appreciates that I was able to leave Zaborze and take care of myself, and you know what a difference it makes.

Łukasz Skorupski: Man, no... Compared to my life in Poland, it's a gulf. She appreciates that I was able to adapt to another. This in Italy. You know how they live here, you've seen it - coffee, cappuccino. Although there is also crime in Italy.

You, for example, were robbed in Bologna.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: Sometimes when I think about it, it still makes me furious. We lived on the ground floor in an apartment with a garden. I was playing at home against Napoli, Matilde left the house half an hour after kick-off. They had to watch her. After the match with my young and "Zielu" we still kicked the ball in the gym at the stadium. Leo knows his uncle, likes him. Everything's fine, we go home, and there's like a bomb went off. Everything is broken, lying on the ground. I felt fucking bad.

Matylda was in Zaborze?
​
Lukasz Skorupski: She was.

Did she like it?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: These were our beginnings, and you know how it is in a relationship - deeply in love, you won't say anything bad. Today, as she recalls that visit, she admits that she was shocked.

What shocked her the most?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: That Silesia is still so gray. And she's from Sardinia. For her, the strangest thing was that every block in Zaborze is the same. Only the number changes. She shook her head: "All the blocks are the same. Only the hospitals are different, and there is no difference." And what, well, I took her to Auschwitz, I remember. She insisted on going there. For Italians, this is a moving story, they take the history of the concentration camps seriously. She wanted to see, so we went. Today, when Matilde is in Poland, we mainly visit my family in the countryside. We will also go there this June.

Where?

Łukasz Skorupski: To my mother. It's a village, 50 kilometers from Brodnica. It takes an hour and a half to get to Toruń. Lakes, we have a boat, fish, bonfires in the evenings. It's fucking great there. Matilde likes it too, she loves nature. Boy, we're walking somewhere in the fields, and she raves about the cows. She's in love with animals, right. Cows, chickens, it doesn't matter.
​
The whole family from mother and father - cousins, aunts - lives there. They all live 15 kilometers next to each other. One family from mom, the other from dad. Here is one village, here is another, and there was a disco between them. My parents met there. Later, my father went to Silesia to work in a mine, and my mother with him.
​
Your dad wasn't interested in football.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: He was from the countryside, he had nothing to do with football. He didn't play it at all. The old man was a boxer. You know, he trained himself and boxed himself.
​
Did he go to your games?
​
Lukasz Skorupski: No. Rarely. I don't blame him. I never wanted to be daddy's boy. When I was young, he used to come to a game.
​
And when have you already played in Ekstraklasa?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: I don't think he came to Ekstraklasa even once. My old man wasn't a Górnik. He watched on TV.
​
When I started training in Zaborze when I was young, I jumped over the fence and was already on the pitch. Nobody had to see me off. When I was ten years old, times were different, I would get on a tram and drive an hour to training. Two transfers from Zaborze and you had to walk there too.
​
You were ten years old and you were already driving alone?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: We traveled from Zaborze in two or three. We had a training group where parents of other coaches licked ass, and I was always alone. I don't blame the old man for not coming. I know he worked hard and had to rest after the mine. Those who had more money, some business of their own, could come to their son whenever they wanted. They were sucking up to the coaches, giving gifts so that only the kid would play. I was the only one who didn't care about it. I was fucking great keeper in the youngsters and the coach loved me. His name is Jerzy Urban. Write it, write it, he will be happy. Sometimes we text each other. He treated me fairly even though I came without my parents and I didn't suck up to anyone. I was good and that was it, and he let me play. Other parents were furious: "Why doesn't my son play, I bought shirts for the team." The coach liked me so much that he would take me home after training and drink tea with the old ones.

Two years older brother, Michał, also played football.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: I think that as a goalkeeper I feel so good and agile because I had a different childhood. I would go outside with the boys and jump from tree to tree, doing some flips in the bushes. And train to add to that. Mom would let us out at nine o'clock in the morning, we would come back at 11 pm, when she was screaming from the window: "Come home!". That's how I grew up, huh.

I would never trade my childhood for anything. I went crazy. Jesus, you went to the lake, no matter if the water was warm or cold. When I was young, I spent my summers in the countryside. We drove tractors, I went to work to pick strawberries or potatoes.
​
Did they pay well?
​
Łukasz Skorupski: Tenner in an hour. We earned about 50pln a day. In the evening we met at the fire station and played a match, and at the end a shop and ice cream. The next day the same. Oh, I slept in the barn too.

Idyllic, carefree.
​
Łukasz Skorupski: Like in the countryside. It was a little different in the city. Although I played football everywhere - in the countryside and in the city.

Anyways i dreamt there was this weird green 4 yro who said he would follow me and tickle me until i was 90
Ps: i dreamt an scp dream before this and died to scp-173,i saw the green guy there... I started the nightmare being in my dining room bed,which is mine,sitting on it eating chips,with my nephews which are very close to me,then they pointed A flashlight at the green guy,he just wasnt green yet,and he was like huge eyes wide smile and almost pale face with a few purple veins on the forehead,he was on my window,and he was holding on to the bars of my window and seemed to get his head through,the window was open,they said "and who are you?",they then turned it on and he growled then ran to the side of my house,my big sister then came to pick up my nephews,they got out and i went to my brothers room and locked myself in it,though the door had A code instead of key in the dream. I was staying up late until what seemed like 6 am and the sky was blue,enough light to say it was morning,i came to the dining room at the same time as my mom,she then chatted with me a little and i chatted back,i forgot about the kid,i was trying to grab my other old phone secretly for some reason,she turned of the lights and the only light on,my brothers room light,shined on the hallway,keep in mind this is a first floor home,the kid entered and i was screaming at my mom to do something and the kid went to my moms room and stood there,my mom was eating watching tv on her bed with my baby sister,she got scared and as soon as i tried to enter i got tickled into the room by the green guy,he laid down in the middle of the bed and my baby sister went to her old baby bed,i was next to the green guy and we didnt do anything,my mother called my brother to come home and my brother asked why there was a laugh,my mom talked about the green guy like it wasnt anything and my brother came home and was confused,he didnt help. The dream continued on my moms room then i asked how long he would be here for,he said until i was old enough,i asked: 16? Replied no. 17? 18? Again,no. I asked him and he said he would be there in all of my homes until i was 90 and he would always tickle me,with that wide grin in his mouth and those evil eyes. I blacked out then i woke up to me and my family going shopping,as we walked i constantly looked back to check if the green guy wasnt there,and he wasnt following,but a purple blob was,which apparently i saw when i was a kid too? Then we saw a baby carrier that looked like that ourple blob and a plushie,my mom bought both and i was warning her but didnt listen,the walk continued. Until we reached this bar or whatever it was,we all apparently had items for this specific room and had an inventory,i took out a screwdriver and open an electrical box,looked at what we needed to cut the wires,i also had something else and opened another electrical box,which was a door to a tunnel with purple lighting,tho i needed an axe to cut the back of the box down to use it as a door. I asked if anyone had pincers to cut the other electrical box wires,which apparently would make the back of the electrical box go down and become a door,we all didnt have it and i asked everyone to show their inventory,me and my nephews had one but didnt have it after i opened the electrical box,we went back and got a few then i woke up irl,with my heart beating as fast as a train,and my phone which i connected to its charger disconnected,im running out of battery while typing this and every little noise scares me,is he under my bed? Was that sound the front gate opening and hes now running at the window? Is he already at the window? If i come out of bed,will he come out of under my bed and grab me? He didnt seem affected by daylight.

(I wrote and tried to post this yesterday, didn't load for some reason. Then the 15-20% Transition sale started last night. The alloy XT Patrol is now $4500 making this choice tougher.)

'23 Transition Patrol (alloy XT) vs' 22/'23 Santa Cruz Bronson (C GX)
Riding mostly black and blue bike park laps at Mountain Creek a few times a week during the season, techy, hilly north New Jersey xc trails throughout the whole year, and a few local jump spots.
There's slightly more travel, weight, and IMO much more value with the Transition. I'd also prefer Shimano components. I have a buddy or two that thinks a 160mm travel bike will be miserable climbing up anything, but I try to remain optimistic and I'm aware it's possible. The Bronson is the obvious better climber, but would the Patrol be THAT bad?
I've been riding since a teen in the late 90s, as a 10yr hiatus and about 5yrs ago got back into it with a Diamondback trail bike. Then 2 years ago caught the ebike bug and got a nice Commencal Meta Power, which has been great for basically anything, it's just 57lbs and super long, turning it mullet with a new shock yoke has helped with the "playfulness" but it just loves to go fast, and straight.
I've actually been road riding more, getting that fitness up and was originally going to go with the new Transition Relay, (actually have a deposit on an NX atm) . The more I ride road however, and actually enjoying it I don't think I'm going to need an Ebike as my new mtb. I ride with a few eeb friends every few months and yes I'm aware no matter how fit I get, they'll still leave me in the dust on climbs.
Both are great companies, have heard great things about customer service, support, warranties etc., a good problem to have I guess.
Looking for some real world experience, advice, suggestions.

The Technical Element

Design for change

- The old google mantra is right. Design for change. Change is having to deploy new software, upgrade existing software, scaling, equipment breaking, and people shifting around. - Everything in this mantra is about finding balance. You might think it's a good idea to tightly marry your system to a particular OS or Linux distro. It's just as bad of an idea to separately them entirely. Use layers and a _little_ indirection if you must. - This does not mean complete and total platform agnostics. It's about making one system two, two systems twenty. Dealing if a sysadmin gets hit by a bus, if that dangling harddrive dies, if someone runs rm -rf /. It's for the incremental changes. Security updates, pushing new corporate content.

Use automatic, repeatable builds

- Don't build anything by hand. If you do, do it twice, and grab every single command the second time around. - I cannot stress how important this is. It should take no more than 15 minutes from bare metal to production for new hardware. There does not need to be a human element to screw it up, or get punished when a server goes down and no one knows how to replace it. - This is true for anything. There is _no_ such thing as a "one off" server build. If you've built it once, and it only needs to exist once, it will exist twice. The second time around is when it breaks, or if you need to do a major upgrade or consolidation two years down the road and have no frickin' clue how it was put together. - Test, vet new builds. This should be easy because your builds are all automatic, correct? - Scripted builds means that upgrade from Linux Distro Version 3 to Version 4 is absolutely clear cut. Install Version 4 and test the scripts. Read documentation and fix until it works again. This should be a week's worth of work at most, not a yearlong project. (to finish just in time for Version 5 to come out!).

Use redundancy

- Just beacuse something might be easy to rebuild, doesn't mean you can ignore redundancy. Jump boxes, mail servers, billing gateways, whatever. Wouldn't it be a hell of a lot easier if you could swap out one half of the equation without causing downtime for your customers? - ... and along those lines, you get to "deal with it later!" when a box goes down at 3am, and the redundant machine kicks in. - Even if it's not ideal, go for it anyway. Rsync'ing configs to a second box is a step above nothing. DRBD might not be perfect but it can provide an amazing service.

Use backups

- We shouldn't even joke about this. Use harddrives, burn the tapes. Compress them, move them, run them in parallel. Backup EVERYTHING! - If your builds are automatic, the entire process can be backed up. If you're following along past this point a *real* Disaster Recovery plan might not seem so far fetched.

Keep monitoring specific

- Monitor every damn thing you can, but do it right. Don't get a thousand alerts if your NFS server craps its pants. Don't alert on timeouts if it doesn't make sense for your system. Test for success at the most specific level; sure the service might allow a new TCP connection, and it might even say hello, but does it remember how to do its job? - If you have 500 webservers, you probably don't need to know immediately if one goes down. You _should_ know if the load balancer decided to not take it out of rotation and real human people are seeing its uglyriffic error messages.

Graph data, keep exact historical data

- Graphs are for visualizing trends. Historical data is for crunching numbers. Don't mix the two! It's too easy to get wrong numbers from eyeballing graphs. Many sites use rrd's or other aggregating data systems which will average and smooth out data over time to save on storage space. This means it's not only hard to read, it's wrong. - Don't get trapped having to skim through hundreds of graphs just to pinpoint an issue. If you're trying to find outliers in the graphs, you can pull those out via scripts as well. - If you must use graphs for troubleshooting, try to aggregate high level concepts into a single page, which link into drill-down pages from there. If you can see a spike in the database load, you'll know to click to the page overviewing the databases, then you'd see the one or two iffy machines in question. The idea is to narrow something down fast. Remove as much guesswork as possible.

Log useful information, use multiple streams of data

- Work on your own, and with development, to log as much useful information as you can. Doesn't matter if you live analyze it and store the data somewhere, or lump it into a database and run reports. Information is useful. - Useful examples: Page rendering time (what page, what box, etc), user-facing errors, database and internal service errors, bandwidth usage, etc. - Establish graphs, reports, and do historical comparisons from generalized data. - Reports are really important. Get digested data week-to-week or day-to-day about changes in your infrastructure.

Understand your data storage, databases

- There's an entirely separate set of undrestanding about operating databases, but sometimes you can't leave all of this up to your DBA. - Having multiple, redundant databases affords you many luxuries. Operations that were once many hours of downtime can be done "online" without shelling out for a huge Oracle instance. MySQL and replication is a fantastic thing. - Work with the DBAs to get the best possible hardware for the database in question. RAID10, gobs of RAM, many fast spindles, and potentially RAM disks and SSD's. Ops has access to the vendors, DBA's can beat the pants off the hardware. Find out what works best and save tons of cash in the long run. - Database configurations are changing. Software like HiveDB, MySQL Proxy, DPM exist now. We're absolutely doing partitioned data for huge datasets. We're also thinking outside of the box with software like starling and Gearman. Learn what these are, and understand that not everything will be in a database. - Get a good grip on your filers! If the data's important, back it up! Snapshots on monolithic NFS servers are fantastic, wonderful, and NOT a backup! - Consider alternatives. MogileFS gets better year after year. There're likely other projects for freely and cheaply maintaining massive stores of files. Similar systems were developed for youtube.com, archive.org, etc. We're finally free of expensive NFS filers being the standard!

Scale out a lot, up a little

- You've seen all of the papers. Scale out is really the way to go. Get commodity (read: available, affordable, standard, NOT super cheap) hardware and work with everyone to ensure all aspects possible can scale out. - Scaling out starts at two, work from there. This also happens to encompass redundancy. - Scale out as far as you can without being idiotic about it. The example of MySQL replication with single master, many slaves, is a fantastic example of one form of scale-out sucking. All slaves must do all writes, so as the number of writes scale up with the reads (if they do for your app, which I bet they certainly do), you get less capacity per slave you add. - Keep alternatives in mind. User or range partitioning onto many databases, avoiding production slaves where possible, etc. Good ideas, many ways of implement. - Everything can scale if you give it a chance! Routers, switches, load balancers, webservers, databases. - Remember scale up? Big evil machines with many slow cores, lots of IO boards, and very expensive storage equipment? They're coming back. Well, the CPU part is. - RAM is cheap. - Combine the two, and you just may end up combining services again. A load balancer here, a webserver there... If an application can use many CPUs (apache) this is perfect. If it can't (memcached doesn't get much benefit from it, usually) you can end up wasting tons of available resources by segregating services too much. - Job systems could potentially fill in gaps here. Where there're extra cores, slap up more workers.

Cache

- Caching is good. Developers, sysops, etc. Get on this! Yes, it's weird. It's different. Sometimes you may even need to, gasp, make a tradeoff for it. Effective use of caching can have as much as a ten times increase in overall system performance. That's a giant magnifying glass over the systems you have already and a fraction of the overall cost. - Memcached. Service cache, denormalize DB structures (where it makes performance sense!), squid cache, or even make better usage of OS caches. - Test it, toy with it, and break it. There will be new and different problems with caching. Be prepared for it.

Asyncronous jobs

- Starling, Gearman, The Schwartz, whatever. Job systems allow much more application flexibility. Workers can be spawned one-off, be persistent (load cached data, prepare data, etc), be on different hardware, different locations, and be syncronous or asyncronous. - Maintaining these things is an ops issue. Using them is both a developer and an ops issue. - User clicks "send all my friends an e-mail". Schedule a job, immediately say "okay done! Your friends will receive your spam shortly!" - let the job service multiplex and deal with the issue. - Job systems are great places to bridge services. Blog post -> IM notification, billing cron -> billing services, authentication gateways, etc. - Easy to scale. There will be choke points for where requests come in, and all the workers need to do is pull. This is in contrast with the largely push/pull state of HTTP.

Security and patrols

- Install security updates! Seriously! There's a whole crazy network of people who are dedicated to giving these to you in the shortest period of time possible. Don't let them sit for _years_ because you're afraid of change. - Security is in layers. Accept what you can and cannot secure. Just because mysql has password access doesn't mean it gets to be directly accessable by the internet. - Disable passwords over ssh. Use passphrase encrypted key auth. Remote users _cannot_ guess your private key. They _have_ to get it from you. Keep it safe, and there's no point in firewalling off your ssh port. - Understand how the application works, exactly what it needs to do, and work that to your advantage. If the only part of your application which needs outbound internet access _at all_ are the billing pages and some twitter-posting service, those can easily become job workers. Put the job workers on specific boxes and allow those access to specific hosts. Keep the rest of your network in the dark. - The above is especially important for php sites, but probably works great elsewhere. If someone breaks in, it's most likely going to be through your application. When someone gets in through the front gate, they'll need to haul in their toolbox to get into the safe. Don't let them pull in data and get what they need, or upload the contents of your database somewhere! - These specific suggestions aside, read a lot. Use your best judgement, and test. If you have no understanding of how a security model works, that might not immediately make it worthless, but you certainly don't know where its limits are or even if it works. - Secure based on testing, theory, attack trees, don't stab in the dark. I love it when people dream up obscure security models and ordinary folks like me can smush it to crumbles. - Patrol what you can! Audit logins, logouts, commands used. All accesses to external facing services, including all arguments given in the request. Find outliers, outright ban input outside of the scope of your application, and do what you can actively and have the data to work retroactively. - If you suspect something's been cracked, *take proper precaution* and understand a little computer forensics (or get a company that does). Respond by removing network access, checking the system through serial console or direct terminal, and avoiding using any service, config file, or data on the compromised machine. Too many people "clean up a trojan' and never understand how it got there, or if they've _actually cleaned it up_. - If you do have a security team, forensics expert, or anyone else onhand, you must touch the machine as little as possible and isolate it. This means not rebooting it to "clear out some funky running processes". They need to be able to get at those. If you need to half ass it, go ahead, but remember to wipe the system completely clean, apply any security updates, and do your best to figure out if they've compromised any important data. Do what you can. - Security is an incredible balancing act. If you do it wrong, developers, users, etc, will revolt and find ways around it. If they _can_ get around it, you're not doing your job right. If they _can't_ get around it, they might just give up and leave. - Keep an iron grip on access control. This means ops must absolutely provide windows for what doors have been locked. Kicking development off of production entirely means they get to stab in the dark on fixing hard problems. Providing logging, debugging tools, etc, without allowing them to directly change the service, will be a win for all aspects of production.

The Human Element

Learn from many sources

- Fill up some RSS feeds, and read at least a few good articles per week. LWN, kerneltrap, undeadly.org, whatever's relevant, or even loosely related, to what you do. - Read blogs from smart people. Sometimes they post interesting topics, and comment streams give us the unique ability to directly converse with the masters. - Read a few blogs from not so smart people. Get a feel for what stumps them, or what they do that doesn't work so well. - Get to know people who can kick your ass, at anything. Stay humble. - Help find your own strengths by taking in from many sources, and gobbling up what envigorates you. - Read up on success and failure stories from other companies. Ring up their CTO's and get them to divulge advise over free lunch.

Try many things

- You'll be amazed at what you can do if you keep trying. Never seen something before? Give it a shot. - Try to not be a dangerous newbie. Play in the sandbox until you're comfortable enough to not burn down the house.

Understand redundancy

- Really understand how redundancy affects things. How it works, how it doesn't work. - Break redundant systems in a test lab, sometimes in production. Learn what you can while you're in control. Unplug the power, yank cards out, kill processes, run the box out of memory, yank a harddrive, yank ethernet. - Test replacing and upgrading systems in a redundant setup. Maybe you can toss in that brand new hal-o-tron 8000 without taking downtime.

Understand scalability

- There're tons of papers on making scalable systems. Even if you can't write one yourself, try to understand the theory. - Learn with virtualization. Set up a few virtual machines and try tossing up applications to multiple machines. Run multiple instances locally on different ports. - It's usually the job of operations to do proper capacity planning. You won't know what to do add unless you truely understand where resources should be added.

Become a troubleshooting superstar

- The moment something breaks the clock is ticking. You must be able to pull out your arsenal and use them effectively. - Practice troubleshooting. Pick a perfectly good, working page, and try to track down how it works. - strace, ltrace, lsof, logs. - Understand that load != load. Look at all available information as to how a host is performing or behaving. - Be very familiar with the tools for your IO system. Often "mysterious" performance problems happen beacuse your RAID or SAN setup isn't happy for some reason. - Leave documentation. Checklists, troubleshooting tips, build tools. - Build more tools. For yourself, for other people, or add features to existing ones.

Work with IT

- Believe it or not, there is overlap. - Ops has to maintain high bandwidth network access for servers. IT has to do the same for people, and is often the bridge ops has *into* the datacenter. It may make sense to work together on this one. - Draw the right line. IT should manage mail, but ops should manage development servers. Don't offload things you don't need to, and offer to do what you do best if necessary. - Don't alienate people. Macs are popular, linux is (slowly) gaining share. Believe it or not, forcing everyone to use microsoft productivity software can bite you. There are plenty of alternatives, try one. Odds are more people in your company are familiar with google apps than they are with outlook. - Don't make it more difficult than you have to do for people to run a unix system natively. Unless your backend is a windows shop, wouldn't you want people to have more familiarity with the OS they're supposed to support?

Work with developers

- You both work on the same product, for the same purpose. Try working together a little more. - Having strategy meetings is not working together. - Development understands the code resources the best, and operations understands the hardware and deployment the best. You can design something more efficient by taking all of this into mind. - Cross training. Disseminating information can show how tools and designs on both sides can be improved to be more manageable and resilient. - Be careful of being too demanding on either side. It's not an Us vs Them. Everyone's human. Everyone should be doing as much as they can for the company, not for themselves. - It's more pleasent to handle crunch times and emergencies when everyone gets along.

Work with ops

- Ops folks have their specialties. Networking, databases, OS. Don't forget to talk to each other! - Getting stuck in a rut is demotivating, boring, and a good way to lose people. Even if your systems ops guy has the ability to look over the shoulder of the network guy, they have the opportunity to learn. - Always give people an opportunity to try, learn, and grow. - Be careful of rewarding your best with too much work. If there're people who can pick up slack, you use them. - Bad eggs. It happens. Be tough enough to deal with them. Most people can be turned around with a little help, but they need to be able to be independent.

The Practice

Fix it now, not later

- If a webserver goes offline, don't care about it. You have ten spare, right? - Pick a day during the week to sweep up broken crap. Replace any broken hardware, ensure everything's 100% before swinging into the weekend. - If small, annoying problems crop up, fix them permanently first thing in the morning. Logs fill up the disk twice last week? Come in fresh the next day, and fix it for good. These stack up, and suck. - If you have automated builds, use this to your advantage to fix what you can right away, or in bulk.

Automate everything

- Humans can't screw up scripted tasks (as easily). - Do it twice. Once by hand if you must, then roll up what you did into a script. - Commented scripts make fantastic documentation. Instead of writing twenty pages detailing how to install something (which is up to interpretation of the reader!), write a script which explains what it does. - Scripts can be rolled up into automated builds. The more often something is done, the closer it should get to becoming a zero time task.

Change what's necessary

- Make small, isolated changes. - If you don't have to change it, leave it. - This also means you must understand _when_ to change. Find what's necessary and upgrade it, switch it out, make it standard.

Design for change

- If you can't do it right immediately, get on the road to it being right. - This means if you don't have time to do something right, get the basics going with a clear migration roadmap to the right thing. While your new mail system might not be the crazy cool redundant bounce-processing spam monster you dream of, installing postfix and setting up two hosts with a clean configuration gets you closer than you might think. - This does have a tendency to leave unfinished projects everywhere, but you were going to do that anyway. :)

Practice updating content, fast

- It's usually the job of operations to push out code. Don't suck at it. Push in parallel, apply rolling restarts, be an efficient machine. - This includes software updates, security patches, and configuration changes. - Use puppet, cfengine, whatever you need to control the configuration. Keep it clean, simple, and easy. - The fewer files one must change to make a necessary adjustment the better. If you're adding one line to 20 files just to push out a new database, you're doing it wrong. Build simple templates, build outward, and don't repeat data which needs to be edited by hand.

Standardize, stick to the standard

- Pick one or two standard OS's, httpd's, databases, package systems. - Stick with them. Adjust and upgrade methods as it makes sense. - Don't stick with that major version forever. Unless your product is going to be feature frozen forever, you'll need to keep the standard rolling forward, and everthing behind it. - The _more_ is standard, the more places your tools will work. The more packages for other parts of the operation will "just work" everywhere else too.

Document well

- Document process - Document product - Categorize into shallow trees. - Don't redundantly document. If a script has a long help, ask the reader to refer to that. The closer the documentation is to the program being discussed, the more likely it is to stay accurate. - Marry documentation into code. perldoc, pydoc, etc. - Out of date documentation is poisonous. Reserve time to keep things up to date. Sit down with new employees and update documentation as they run into problems. - Use ticketing systems, with moderation. Documentation of history is important as well. Forcing people to create detailed process tickets for a DNS is just pissing in other people's cheerios.

Use source control

- Use git, or mercurial. Avoid SVN like the black plague. - Put all of your configurations, scripts hacks, whatever, into source control. - Keep checkouts everywhere... - Keep strict, clean, master checkouts. No one should be able to push changes that aren't comitted, but it should also be easy to test changes (in a VM, directly on a single test machine) without having to wrestle with the source control.

Hire well

- Discern between stubborn and smart - Don't avoid hiring senior. Some people really know their shit. Some _seem_ like they do. Others are "senior" in a particular area and will fall behind as technology changes. While you might want to avoid some, there are definitely rockstars out there. - Don't avoid hiring junior. I know so many people who've started really junior (including myself! I still view myself as junior), who've shot up through the ranks and are now have firm established careers. I'd believe most of us have. Except there are ones who don't learn, don't have the motivation, or are in the wrong field.

Avoid vendor lock in, and keep a good relationship with the vendors you do use

- Buying propreitary hardward has the major downside of potentially locking you into always using it. It might be a particular SAN, NAS, special-case direct attached storage, backup systems, etc. Avoid getting sucked in. If you follow all of the above design advise, one should be able to build test environments on different platforms quickly. You're then able to keep on top of hardware evaluations and keep choices open. - If everything's deep, dark, gnarled, undocumented, and directly dependent on your fancy proprietary load balancer, you'll never wriggle free of it. - Be nice to the vendors you do end up using. If you "push them _hard_ on price!" for every single purchase, expect some shit hardware to show up. - Datacenters these days have a lot of potentially useful resources. Try to throw some free remote hands service into your contract and abusing that to get harddrives replaced, vendor items shipped/RMA'ed, and some basic hardware installs. I've had entire racks of equipment delivered and installed with barely a visit from an employee... and damn, it's nice.

Give Open Source a serious try

- nginx, mongrel, lighttpd, apache, perlbal, mogilefs, memcached, squid, OpenBGPD, PF, IPTables, LVS, MySQL, Postgres, blah, blah, blah. Before you hop back on that trusty, reliable, expensive proprietary setup, give open source a shot. You might find yourself adding plugins, extensions, code fixes or contracting help to bring features you'd never be able to do otherwise. In my own experience OSS is just as reliable, often moreso, than big expensive hardware when put under significant load. - The idea of "you get what you pay for" is a complete lie. If you can't make OSS work for you and need the hand holding, you _can_ still go with a vendor. If you have a smart, motivated team, who really want to learn and understand how their infrastructure runs, you just can't beat some hardy GPL'ed or BSD'ed systems. - MySQL and Postgres are fine. Call them tradeoffs if you will; nothing's going to crawl out of your closet and night and eat your data. Sure, it does happen, but you're much more likely to be screwed over with monolithic oracle instances going offline (it happens!) than you are with a well tested and stable MySQL instance, in a redundant master<->master cluster pair. - I'd say 'cite references' - but go look around. Check out any number of articles on the LAMP stack. Most major dot coms, ISP's, and even corporations now are adopting. Give it a shot. The worst you'll have is some lost time, and another product to scare your vendor into dropping price with.

Other games we have played in the past are Sea of Thieves, Risk of Rain, League of Legends, Lost Ark, No Man's Sky, Mordhau and Black Desert Online.
I'm sure there are many I have missed but that is a good list. We enjoy adventure type games where we can level up and gain abilities. A decent story with cool moments would be nice too. Bonus points if it's on sale on Steam right now.
