2023.05.29 17:05 Pristine_Present_260 24 [F4M] Brisbane, Australia - Looking for a permanent, stable relationship
I'm looking for a guy within 18-22 (no exceptions), who's ambitious, young with an old soul, who is emotionally available and is also looking for a long-lasting relationship. I'm alcohol friendly with moderation (obv drinking problems are a dealbreaker). As for preferences, I lean strongly to buff/lean, muscular Caucasian guys. I am not into neckbeards as I've gotten plenty of messages from guys who don't fit what I'm looking for. So if you're not the type of guy Im describing above, please dont waste my time trying to weazel your way in.
Personality wise, I would like someone who is empathetic, kind, who I feel can understand me, and is cognizant in the cruelty of the world since my life is best described as that of a 'tragic tale of a tragic character''
About me: Asian, 6'1", I'm doing a masters in International relations, with plans to go into government. Ideally, I'd like to work in D.C. politics with wanting to work in the Pentagon or DoD to do some consulting work. However, depending if I meet a fellow Aussie, I'm more than willing to stay within the country if I feel we are mutually compatible.
I alao write opinion pieces for my uni newspaper and am potentially looking to do interviews with people for future opinion pieces.
I like to game: Dying Light, Cities Skylines, GTA IV, American Truck Sim. I also like to learn vegan recipes even not being a vegan myself.
I'm a big foodie, whether that'd be Mediterranean food, Middle Eastern, Indian (i love curries also), seafood, or spicy food. I've also taken a liking to Azerbaijani food as well as Eastern European.
I'm also an aspiring runner for which I joined my uni's social running club
The big obstacle.... I'm a pre-op transgirl. I'm looking for a guy who's secure in his masculinity, not fazed by any insecure notions of fragile masculinity. However, I'd like to hope (however fruitless or not) that the younger generation, like Gen Z'ers are more LGBTQ+ accepting. For any older guys, I'm sorry but I want a relationship where I'm not subject to being emotionally abused (personal experience... not great) nor feel like I'm missing out more in life by settling into a post 30+ year old life.
I'd like to live my youth still whatever I have left, and enjoy those moments with someone in similar life stages of being in college also or who's entering college. I also do not desire children ever.
After having numerous LDR's fizzle out, I would like to have a stable relationship. Due to me still being in college and doing a Masters, I can't travel abroad right now unfortunately.
Will only reply to well written responses so short messages will get ignored.
Pls be in Australia/NZ or N. America pref I'd like someone local but not holding much hope.
Do not waste my time if youre just looking to chat or are just bored, since thats been 90% of the replies I get.

2023.05.29 17:05 MyNameIsAMeme Jimmy Butler is a bigger foul merchant than Harden, he's actually the best in the league.
| I saw the thread yesterday comparing the FTR(free throw rate) of Harden to Butler and I decided to do some more research on the topic. The results were actually pretty interesting. https://www.reddit.com/nba/comments/13u7dmg/jimmy_butler_has_a_free_throw_rate_of_608_since/ Butler since joining Miami has been Top 5 in FTR twice, 6th once, and did not qualify once due to missed games(would’ve placed Top 5). For the most part his FTR is only comparable to players you foul on purpose. Embiid was the only other player with similar usage and FTR. https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2023_advanced.html I decided to compare Miami Butler to 2016-2020(Prime) Harden because most people tend to complain the most about the flopping during that time period. I picked a 4 year span for Harden because Butler has been in Miami for 4 years(2019-2023). https://preview.redd.it/gn5227d4as2b1.png?width=1659&format=png&auto=webp&s=add1e08d5ce433b31a1b91ad23ff0c27989bc74f In terms of just attempts at the line Harden clearly has the edge, but that does not really tell the full story. Harden was shooting and handling the ball far more often than Butler. This chart here provides much more context. https://preview.redd.it/edxb9o9aas2b1.png?width=964&format=png&auto=webp&s=463bf10697941b72aa956a728c75b28ad5217af6 Harden was shooting a few more free throws a game, but was also attempting far more shots per game. Just from looking at this chart you can tell Jimmy Butler has a far higher FTR. I saw a lot of people saying “Well Jimmy goes to the rim and Harden just shoots threes,” So I looked into the shooting stats. https://preview.redd.it/qpwkng4xas2b1.png?width=1669&format=png&auto=webp&s=0bc8fcea0bda5fb2b80a0294f286f8aa129f96b5 Jimmy did take a higher percentage of shots near the rim, but that doesn't really matter once you do the actual math. https://preview.redd.it/l6r1c9w3bs2b1.png?width=1671&format=png&auto=webp&s=8a95a6e7f6d9b52bedef36bbc0406ddd8f62d58f Harden was actually taking more shots at the rim and it was only really close for one season. So Butler takes fewer shots by a wide margin of 7.5 shots, shoots less at the rim in comparison to Harden, how does he manage to shoot even close to the amount of free throws Harden was getting? https://preview.redd.it/l9iui06jbs2b1.png?width=1675&format=png&auto=webp&s=faa184432a642e4f9ab856a35131eaa23ba45273 I thought maybe usage could help me understand why Butler was shooting free throws at a higher rate than Harden at his prime but that made me even more confused. Even his USG % isn’t close to Harden. https://preview.redd.it/hv5l4jlrbs2b1.png?width=1673&format=png&auto=webp&s=2d89cecb65e60160548d81586e9727a4ea58fc35 Butler did shoot a lot more often from the intermediate range. Maybe he was just getting fouled quite often in this range. https://preview.redd.it/yxf4m8l3cs2b1.png?width=1675&format=png&auto=webp&s=bfbf1569ea25b0831c47a9a6687b8b417f57aedf It is clear Butler did shoot from this range more often than Harden. Maybe that range is where he gets the free throws. Butler manages to destroy Harden when it comes to Free throw rate and Harden has the reputation of being one of the biggest floppers in league history. I don’t think there is a reasonable explanation for Butler having a FTR comparable to guys who get fouled on purpose like Giannis, Gobert, and Plumlee. Unfortunately, I could not find a leaderboard for highest FTR in a season but .693 in the 2019-2020 season is the highest I have seen from a wing player. LeBron has only broken over .5 once in his entire 20 year career. - Butler has a free throw rate of .608 in his time in Miami, Shaq’s career average was .578
- Shot profile really does not account for the insane difference in FTR between Harden and Butler
- Butler has been the only wing player to consistently be top 5 in FTR for the past few seasons.
Harden has this reputation of being a flopper and being horrible to watch, yet Butler is literally statistically better than Harden at drawing fouls. For his entire Heat career Butler has made 6.85 field goals per game and made 7.2 free throws per game. LeBron has only broken over .5 once in his entire 20 year career. All the stats point towards Butler being a better foul drawer than Harden. submitted by MyNameIsAMeme to u/MyNameIsAMeme [link] [comments] |

2023.05.29 17:04 DescriptiveMath [Discussion] Do you all care about the players personally, or is it all business with the wins and losses and on-field performance?
I ask this because I feel a personal and emotional attachment toward our players, as a fan. For instance, I root for our guys in life, not just on the field, and I get defensive way more than the average fan does if someone talks shit about our guys. I'm the guy that was crying when Patterson put that FG through the uprights in the South End zone to beat the Chargers, and when Josh Allen returned the fumble for a TD in the Titans game. I'm just so proud of our boys when they succeed and hurt for them too when they fail.
Another example of this, where I feel like my emotional investment laid dividends is during the Chargers game. My wife and I sat in our seats at halftime, freezing our asses off, looking at each other asking if we were having fun. We both agreed that we weren't (as that shitty band was blasting over-the-top positive music out during the halftime concert), but we literally said "these boys just gave us the best regular season we've ever seen. They don't want to be getting their teeth kicked in, as much as we don't want them to be getting their teeth kicked in. We OWE it to them to support their, clap for them, and root them on when times are hard, because they just gave it their all over the past 9 weeks for us." That was the speech my wife and I gave each other before the 2nd half, and we sat there, and by God, they pulled it off. I wanted to go onto the fields and do flips with Etienne! It was euphoria.
I love the Jaguars. Who here can relate and who can't? I'd love to hear thoughts on this. I have friends look at me sideways when I say things like this.

2023.05.29 17:04 ArtoriousTheMystic A close friend appears to be in an unhappy marriage and we worry it could end badly.
tl;dr - Our friend appears to be in a semi-unhappy and possibly emotionally toxic marriage and about to move across the country with them.
My wife and I both play in a D&D group, and one of our friends is in said group. He was not married when we first started but when he did get together with his wife, they did have their wedding surprisingly quick. About 6-8 months of dating I believe. We never thought of it as a bad thing, just seemed fast to tie the knot.
Upon their marriage she joined the group as well and really she seemed nice by all accounts. Eventually we started having our sessions at their place and this is when we started to notice small things that made us worry.
We noticed his wife would ask him for anything so she wouldn't have to leave the couch, or specifically state she wouldn't do a chore or menial task because our friend could do it later. Normally I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing but it would happen everytime we would all come over. She seems to "Steamroll" over his thoughts and just decide something she wants rather than talking about it. Like livestreaming their wedding when our friend wanted it to be a more private affair.
Small example, she had one dog who isn't particularly well trained and kinda chaotic. ie: antagonizing their cats, clumsily knocking things over, jumping up on people, and I've been told has very bad separation anxiety. Our friend had mentioned he wasn't a huge fan but one dog was manageable. Suddenly his wife had brought home a dog from the shelter she was volunteering at and kinda strong armed him into accepting it. He has since expressed to me he can't stand these dogs but "his hands are tied".
She also seems kinda "snake-like" I suppose is the word I'd use. She definitely likes to talk negatively about people she knows and start drama. She had mentioned a girl I had a one night stand with a long time ago in front of my wife, who is well aware of my past, in a roundabout way to cause an issue between us. It didn't of course because we communicate everything to each other but we both thought that was a very odd thing to bring up out of the blue. She also brings up any negative interaction she's had with her husband. Like asking how my wife and I's wedding was, only to tell us how awful or how many things went wrong with their wedding, and in front of our friend who seemed visibly uncomfortable.
Now they are moving across the country to be near Disney World and it feels like we should try to talk with our friend to make sure he's actually okay with all of this or just following along. We don't know their relationship entirely so it's hard to know when should we say something or not. But we worry if we don't it's going to be a long and unhappy marriage, and his friends here won't be able to support him should it turn sour. We don't know the whole relationship which makes it hard, but we care for our friend and don't want to not help him if we can.

2023.05.29 17:04 Advanced_Eggplant_69 Even a broke clock is right twice a day.
Since I now work for the government now and have Memorial Day day off, I've spent the morning scrolling Reddit, as one does. I keep seeing in this sub "HR is not your friend, HR is not your friend, HR is not your friend." It's not incorrect, and frankly, I've said the selfsame before myself. But I did want to share the time a HR professional did me an actual, personal solid.
I work in healthcare. Healthcare likes to use the , "How would you feel if your grandma got subpar care?" to keep employees doing more and more for less and less with less and less. I had worked at what is called a critical access hospital for 10 years, taking on additional duties throu the years as I became Clinical Manager, then Clinical Manager+scheduler, then Clinical Manager +scheduler +Pharmacy Operations Manager. Over the 10 years and multiple roll changes, we "received" 2 raises, both less than 0.5% addition in pay. Then the hospital went bankrupt (despite multiple CEOs having received $M contracts), we got bought out by an investment group and I was among the people let go.
I was two months pregnant at the time (they didn't know) and covid shut down my state two weeks later. I managed to get all of two interviews in before all hospitals went on a hiring freeze.
I was out of work for 7 months, got a job offer from one of the people I had interviewed with in Feb as I was getting covid tested pre-delivery. I delivered 3 days later and started 2.5 weeks later. But this isn't about the shitty way America treats new mothers.
It's about the HR rep who called and asked what my requested salary was. I gave her what I had been making at the previous hospital (less than 1% above what a junior staff pharmacist would have been earning more than 20 years previous). In my defense, I was desperate for work and in active labor. I wasn't really thinking clearly.
Now HR works for the company, so she could have taken my number and run with it, chalking it up to a company win. But instead she said something along the lines of, "Sorry, I think I misheard. The top of our bracket for someone with your years and management experience is $XX/hr. That's what you had said, right?" Thankfully I still had the wherewithal to agree.
So, long story short, to the HR professional who did a desperate pharmacist a solid even though it wasn't in the company's best interest,, I thank you.

2023.05.29 17:04 Old-Stable355 What makes you ghost a girl you were fwb with?
Pretty much what the question asks. I hooked up w a guy who lived near me in LA and we had mutual friends from college. He moved to a small town Texas and lives w his family and took over his family business. He flew me out there right when he moved and spent so much $ on me and I knew he really liked me, but we both agreed we didn’t want to do long distance. Then he traveled to Miami to visit his friend a week later and I think my insecurities got the best of me and I ignored him via text while he was in Miami w his friend. He’s since been back in TX and I’ve tried reaching out, but he isn’t receptive and is slow/sending short texts.

2023.05.29 17:04 One_Laugh_Guy Lucked out and found 24 divines in a single map. Help me make this RF Jugg godly.
| 24 Divines, I'm literally shaking. Got lucky with an Eldritch mod then they just kept dropping. Geezus. Help me spend this 24 divs please. I'm not making any other build. This will be my last one and I want to push this as far as it can get. I would love to complete my atlas and kill some bosses like Maven. No Ubers, just regular bosses. Here's my current POB, https://pobb.in/WFQ5b8ChKNbg The build already feels tanky enough for me but so far what I see that I can improve are the following: - Better body armour - Should I get a brass dome? That would put my res at 90, 89, 89, 79. Or a better rare with better armour stats and other rolls.
- Better amulet - What mods am I looking for aside from +1 fire skill gems? Do I try getting +2?
- Better sceptre - I suck at crafting and this was the best I could do. What am I looking for here?
- Better helm - Following Pohx guide, I think I need to craft this and switch the gems. But I will probably do this last since I lose motivation with the game if a craft fails. lol. I just farm what I can and buy what I can afford.
- The rest of my gears are pretty much trash, bad rolls, and something I just crafted with my little brain. Haha. I suck at crafting really. But if I have anything left from the 24 div, maybe the rings next? Then the gloves?

2023.05.29 17:04 tkwadeauthor Fairy Tale Spotlight: Maize [Video Game Review]
| "Maize" is an adventure video game released in 2016. I've played it through twice. I think I meant to review it back when I finished it the first time but simply forgot to do it. The basic story of "Maize" is that you wake up in a strange cornfield with no memory of who you are or why you are there. Very quickly you find out that some of the corn are not only alive but sentient beings. They even have faces and can talk, although they don't seem very intelligent, as one might expect of corn. Soon, you find out the the farm is on top of an extremely large secret facility. While exploring it, you end up finding one of the most entertaining characters I have ever met in a video game. His name is Vladdy. He is a talking, Russian, robot, teddy bear... and he hates you. He constantly reminds you about how stupid you are. It's wonderful. Pretty much this character alone made this game worth playing a second time. Seriously, look up a trailer for this game so you can see and hear him. The gameplay consists mainly of finding things and figuring out where those things go. It's basically a simple adventure game. The enjoyment comes from just taking in the whole world and learning about all the details of how it came to be. Everything is built upon comedy, but it is presented in a very surreal manner that makes it all fascinating. This is a good way to do comedy. The comedy itself is quite absurd, but dry enough so you can kind of relax and take it all in. An example of this was that the lab has a really awful cheap security system which is painfully easy to circumvent. In order to pass by a facial recognition scanner, all I had to do was do an "Etch A Sketch" drawing of the man I am trying to impersonate (a really bad one, by the way) and then dress it up in an old jacket. Instant access. Yes, it's really that stupid. Actually the word "stupid" is a prevailing aspect of the whole experience. The game owns stupidity as almost a way of life. Throughout the game, nearly every character you meet seems like a complete moron. You are also called "stupid" and an "idiot," usually by Vladdy. And as you play through the campaign... you actually may begin to wonder if you really are stupid. The concept that you are just as stupid as the people around you is not something I am used to in games. Usually we assume that we are, at the very least, the one hero that can solve the problem. But this game doesn't really do that. No. You're an idiot, and the game lets you know that... and also that... it's kind of okay to be an idiot... as long as things work out. If you can get your hands on a copy of "Maize" you really should. It's worth it for its very surreal brand of comedy and adventure. Just keep in mind that the humor is often very slowly paced and heavily based on your own personal investment in this strange world. Give it a try. Do it for that Russian robot bear who hates you. Also do look up that trailer. It's really quite fun to watch. This blog was written on May 3, 2023. Thank you for reading my blog! Did you enjoy it? 2023.05.29 17:04 wabhabin Have you learned to be more forgiving when having to look up basic-ish stuff while reading papers?
I know that quality of presentation will vary from paper to paper, but I am willing to bet that the following phenomena in shared by many graduate students in this sub: You reading the first half of a paper on topic "X" and the author states that "Z holds by basic theory of [some well-known field]". The statement itself might not be any of the main statements of the paper itself, but maybe rather a motivating example or a recap from another paper (which itself is so obscure that your best bet is to stick with the paper at hand). "Z" looks like something that might have seen during a course on "[some well-known field]" and you can even name all the objects that appear in "Z". But still you have no clue on how to actually prove "Z".
What happens after the prelude might be different from person to person, but so far I my main tool for solving this sort of case has been just asking the how to solve "Z" in some math forum. Sadly, an overwhelming number of times the proof for "Z" has been at the level of the coursework in "[some well-known field]", which to me is nothing but a manifestation of my own ineptitude/field related immaturity. Worse is the feaobservation that asking help with these sort of problems only weaken my problem solving abilities and will lead me to having to ask more help in the future. On the other hand, I am not convinced that it makes sense to spend possibly an entire week (30-50 hours) on a single statement if it is not the main argument of the article at hand.
To be explicit, I don't like that I have to ask help with problems such as "Z" since to me the process itself reflects my quality as a student. Then again, solving these sort of problems at this context (reading through articles) might just be one of those things where either can do it from the get go or you have to fail enough to not just care anymore. What are your thoughts on this, and how do you approach such dilemmas? Have you learned to be more forgiving when having to look up basic-ish stuff while reading papers?

2023.05.29 17:04 davittconroy ADHD NYC Support groups
I have adhd. I returned to NYC after living in Ireland the past 3 years. They had me on bonkers medication over there. Antidepressants that did nothing for depression. Tyvance or vyvance in the US that turned me into a PSYCHO!! I’ve blown up my life. Had a restaurant 2 kids all gone. The kids hopefully just for now. I’ve moved 7 times in the last 3 years, twice internationally. It’s been a tornado. And the meds only fuelled it. But I want to stay off all meds altogether! I’m trying to find resources for meet ups support groups. Like minded stuff but can only find clinics psychiatrists. I don’t want any more meds just to accept it and manage it the best I can. I’m looking for things in NYC that can help me for this. A coffee morning even one on one I don’t know. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate

2023.05.29 17:03 JustInDms 27 [M4F] Austria, Europe, Online - Starting a new life in Austria soon, and looking for someone from Europe to share weekends and more!
Hello R4R, I recently completed my PhD in the UK and have secured a job in Austria. With my impending move to a new country, I am hoping to find a cool person to chat with and potentially build a connection with. As for myself, I am 174cm tall with short blonde hair and a short beard. My regular workouts help me maintain a relatively thin figure. In my free time, I enjoy being in nature, reading, drawing, working out, cooking, and baking. I can usually be found in the mountains or gardening when I'm not working, and I dream of doing a long trek in nature like the PCT. If you also enjoy exercising, good food, and long hikes, we will likely get along well. I also enjoy taking little nature walks while enjoying homemade meals. I'll keep it brief and look forward to getting to know you better. Best regards, J

In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant . Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.
Production companies : Warner Bros. Pictures.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so on.As
Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant , which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant .)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant , we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There's also some Easter eggs in there, too.So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term.only
one can claim to be the most powerful superhero .And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel or otherwise
"By the way, it's not hyperbole because we made the movie."And we made him this powerful.
There's nothing so wrong with “Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant ” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two- hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant ” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero.
It's no less numbing to find material meant for children retconned for adults—and, in the process, for most of the naïve delight to be leached out, and for any serious concerns to be shoehorned in and then waved away with dazzle and noise. Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant ” offers a moral realm that draws no lines, a personal one of simplistic stakes, a political one that suggests any interpretation, an audiovisual one that rehashes long-familiar tropes and repackages overused devices for a commercial experiment that might as well wear its import as its title. When I was in Paris in 1983, Jerry Lewis—yes, they really did love him there—had a new movie in theaters. You're Crazy, Jerry."Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant " could be retitled 'You're a Superhero, Dwayne'—it's the marketing team's PowerPoint presentation extended to feature length.
In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant ” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.
“They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant FULLMOVIE ONLINE
Is Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant Available On Hulu?Viewers are saying that they want to view the new TV show Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.
Is The Magician's Elephant Fullmovie Online For Free on Disney Plus?
Unfortunately, Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.
Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant has finally ended the box office blues. It will be a close call, but based on the estimates, the year's biggest opener remains Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with its $187 million start. Nonetheless, Wakanda Forever's $180 million opening is a huge one, being the biggest ever for the month of November (beating the $158 million of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the second biggest of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time (though it could go up or down a few slots once the actuals come out). It led an overall weekend box office of $208 million, which is the fourth biggest of the year and the biggest by a long shot of the past four months, with no other weekend since July 8 -10 even going above $133 million.
This isn't the $202 million opening that we saw from Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant in February 2018, nor should we expect the amazing legs that were able to get that film to an astonishing $700 million. With that said, expect it to perform strong throughout the holiday season, likely repeating the five-weekend number-one streak that the first film had, and it shouldn't have any trouble becoming the second highest grossing film of the year so far, beating the $411 million cume of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The audience response is strong, with the A CinemaScore falling below the first film's A+ but bouncing back from the B+'s earned by Doctor Strange 2 and Magic Mike's Last Dance, which ranked among the worst for the MCU. improvement over the recent franchise installations, with the aforementioned films coming in at 74% and 64% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, both at the lower end for Marvel films, while Wakanda Forever's 84% is closer to franchise norms, though not meeting the high bar set by the first Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant 's 96%.
The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that Wakanda Forever will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.
Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant , which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Wakanda Forever season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Magic Mike's Last Dance, though Wakanda Forever will overtake it any day now.
Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact )
, which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's close to grossing four times its $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget , though a number of international markets have yet to open.
Finishing up the top five is Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant , which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million.
The one new specialty title of note comes from a filmmaker we don't typically associate with the specialty box office: Steven Spielberg. The Beard's semi-autobiographical family drama Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles to $160k, a $40k average. The film expands to 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, and it has the potential to break out in a way that none of the other of the season's awards contenders have. We're also seeing very solid numbers from Watch ‘The Magician's Elephant , which grossed $1.7 million this weekend for a seventh place finish, bringing its cume to $5.8 million.

2023.05.29 17:03 FoxEnvironmental3344 2023 r/Fantasy Bingo Using Eurovision 2023 Songs
I came across the post
2019 Fantasy Bingo Card Using Eurovision Songs (yes, seriously) by
u/improperly_paranoid and as it is still Eurovision month, despite Eurovision 2023 ending 2 weeks ago I was curious to see if I could make this work for the Bingo 2023 card and Eurovision 2023 songs because it seemed like fun.
For those not in the know, Eurovision is an annual song contest where participating countries send an entry to compete for the opportunity to host the competition the following year and show off about their culture, it's a lot of fun, very camp and participating countries get to vote for the results. This year for the first time voting was expanded to non participating countries such as: the United States, Canada, Kosovo, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Mexico, Hungary, Slovakia, UAE, Turkey, and Chile. This interval performance of
Love Love Peace Peace should give you a better idea of what it is all about. Eurovision often has fantastical elements, such as
a woman floating in space above the Earth, an
inflating lightning dress, not to mention
funky video game inspired entries, and even a
stick figure imaginary friend.
I think I've made my point, anyway if anyone doesn't know what
Fantasy Bingo is then
check it out! It's a yearly challenge to encourage diversifying your reading, I had a lot of fun with it last year and the community aspect is great for gathering ideas for themed cards, asking about if a book fits and seeing what everyone recommends.
Rule 1: Once a country has been used for a square it cannot be reused
Rule 2: Only songs and performers from Eurovision 2023 are eligible
Now, the Squares.
First Row Title with a Title: Future Lover - Brunette (Armenia), although Queen of Kings would also work here I need it for...
Superheroes:
Queen of Kings - Alessandra (Norway), I mean look at that cape! If she isn't a superhero I don't know who is.
Bottom of the TBR: I Wrote A Song - Mae Muller (United Kingdom), Mae performed as the final act in the Grand Final so was literally the performance we'd been waiting for the longest. Alternatively Luxembourg, who are returning to the competition in 2024 after a 30 year absence.
Magical Realism:
Bridges - Alika (Estonia), a piano that plays itself.
Young Adult:
Breaking My Heart - Reiley (Denmark), very bright and feels like it has a younger target audience.
Second Row Mundane Jobs: Who the Hell is Edgar? - Teyas & Salena (Austria), about singers and a dead writer ghostwriting.
Published in the 00s: What They Say - Victor Vernicos (Greece), okay obviously none of these songs are published in the 00s because that goes against Eurovision rules, however singer songwriter Victor is 16 years old...Yes this is an age joke, he's the youngest singer in the competition this year and he was born in the 00s. Plenty of other contestants for this year are born in the 2000s as well, including Brunette.
Angels and Demons: Blood & Glitter - Lord of the Lost (Germany), no blatant angel/demon iconography this year so I had to stretch the definition a bit, with this song embodying the notion that everyone has both angelic and demonic characteristics. Serbia's song does namedrop the Devil, but I need that song for later.
Five Short Stories: Flag Parade featuring short live performances from previous highly successful Ukrainian acts, showcasing the history of Ukraine in Eurovision interspersed with UK songs due to the UK hosting on behalf of Ukraine.
Horror: Like An Animal - Piqued Jacks (San Marino), this song might come the closest to straight up horror this year because of the lyrical content, alternatively
this staging may qualify Romania's entry for this square.
Third Row Self-Published: Carpe Diem - Joker Out (Slovenia), as far as I could tell only this song and Future Lover - Brunette (Armenia) are self-published this year.
Set in SWANA Country: Tell Me More - TuralTuranX (Azerbaijan), this
source explicitly mentions Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Published in 2023: Promise - Voyager (Australia), this is a freebie since they are all published in 2023. Check it out, this band knows how to put on a show.
Multiverse/Alternate Realities: Eaea - Blanca Paloma (Spain), again I'm stretching a bit here, but this song does have a very otherworldly feel to it.
POC Author: Heart of Steel - TVORCHI (Ukraine), Jimoh Kehinde was born in Nigeria.
Fourth Row Book Club or Readalong: Cha Cha Cha - Käärijä (Finland), the song everyone is watching on youtube, it currently has the most views of all the live performances of the 2023 show, with 15 million views.
Novella: Mama ŠČ! - Let 3 (Croatia), the shortest song this year according to youtube. Also Croatia did get to the Grand Final, but their semi-final performance video on youtube is shorter for some reason.
Mythical Beasts: Unicorn - Noa Kirel (Israel), it's even HM
Elemental Magic: Break A Broken Heart - Andrew Lambrou (Cyprus), the most elemental mage in Eurovision 2023, we get a waterfall, rain and fire. Shoutouts to Romania for their firey performance and Georgia and Estonia for their water iconography.
Myths and Retellings: Soarele şi Luna - Pasha Parfeni (Moldova), use of multiple folklore characters with the lyrics written by Pasha's wife Yuliana about a beautiful marriage, you could definitely argue this is a retelling of their own love story.
Fifth Row Queernorm Setting: Because of You - Gustaph (Belgium), a camp song described by Gustaph as "an ode to the queer community".
Coastal or Island Setting: Solo - Blanka (Poland), features a coastal background.
Druids: Power - Diljá (Iceland), she's got plant powers.
Featuring Robots: Samo mi se spava - Luke Black (Serbia), a lot of video game iconography, very moody atmosphere and a big robot boss to fight. TVORCHI's Heart of Steel also fits here.
Sequel: Tattoo - Loreen (Sweden), a surprising amount of songs work for sequel, as we had 6 returning performers from previous Eurovisions/Junior Eurovision including Pasha Parfeni (Moldova), Marco Mengoni (Italy), Monika Linkytė (Lithuania), Gustaph (Belgium), Iru (Georgia). But Loreen fits best here, as she returns from
winning Eurovision 2012 with Euphoria to win again in Eurovision 2023. Making her the second person to win Eurovision twice.
With a few stretches to make a Bingo challenge meant for books work for songs, it sort of worked. How about that.
