Hi all, I just wanted to get some advice from professionals in the embedded world and see what I’m missing!
To give you a bit of context, I’m a lighting/electrical guy working in large producing houses in the theatre industry, we often are tasked with making bespoke props, special effects or scenic elements which fall outside the remit of stage automation (a well populated and standardised area of the industry, using safety certified PLCs). Basically I don’t touch anything that needs an E-Stop.
We often have only a couple of weeks to develop a bespoke one-off special effect, essentially it’s a process of rapid prototyping and the prototype is quite often the final product.
There’s usually nothing hugely complex about the projects and often I can adapt or combine the code from previous projects in order to get the job done quickly (which is seen as the highest priority in this industry).
Coming from an EE background a lot of my solutions were very ‘analogue’, (switching relays in various combinations via custom diode networks, using hardware PWM controllers etc) however I’d been curious to learn the basics of how to get a microcontroller to do all the things that are quite difficult or costly to do in the analogue domain and got into Arduino as an accessible gateway into the digital world.
Projects are typically things that receive a trigger (either via a physical button press, MIDI or DMX serial data) and do a thing (light up something via PWM, spin a stepper motor a set amount of steps or energise a solenoid or a relay). I’ve made self playing pianos, one armed bandits, miniature pixel tape controllers to be hidden in costume props, it’s a really fun job but I’m sure it’s quite basic, unrefined and ‘hacky’ in comparison to real industrial embedded development.
I guess a lot of what we do only one level up from hobbyist tinkering and Arduino, with a wealth of open source projects online, provides us with a platform to do things very quickly.
We are a world away from safety critical automotive or medical applications and we are only ever making a couple of units, not 10,000,000 and the development cycle is sometimes a couple of weeks end to end rather than months or years.
The second aspect to consider is that we tend to be mainly EEs not software engineers and as technology moves on, there is a growing expectation from creative teams that we are able to produce embedded solutions so it’s important that the platform is accessible.
Most things could be comfortably achieved on 8bit AVR, so that would probably be the end of the debate, however DMX/RDM commonly used in theatre lighting is timing specific and must meet ANSI standards, so ideally I’d ideally like to have DMX/RDM running uninterrupted on one core of a modern dual core chip and then all the other project specific nonsense on the other, making it harder to break the DMX/RDM side of things when hacking a project together quickly.
I’ve been looking into STM32, in order to take advantage of newer, faster and more powerful dual core chips (and maybe eventually start to develop some useful transferable skills to the professional embedded development industry!) but this is suddenly less viable if it increases development time, or if it becomes much less accessible to my colleagues to adopt in their work.

The reason the Golden Trio was camping in the first place was because as they where escaping the Ministry, they accidentally shared the location of Grimmauld Place with Yaxley, rendering the group unable to live there. Yaxley was able to just catch the Trio was because Umbridge noticed the missing eye that Harry took, so she sounded the alarms. If she never had the eye, Harry world of never accidentally tiped off Umbridge, and even if Umbridge did notice Harry was in her pink dungeon, she probably wouldn't know instantly like when her door eye was missing. Even a second delay would allow for the trio to escape, allowing for them continue to live at Number 12. This means they dont have to wear the locket all the time, as they can just hide it in the house, so Ron wont leave. The Snatchers MIGHT not capture them, as for one, it is unknown how strong the fidelius charm is, and if it would break if they spoke Voldemorts name, or if they would even be in the position to say his name, as there would not be as much tension between them.
Some problems arise, as Snape would have trouble giving the Sword to Harry, but tbh because he knows of Number 12, he may just go in and drop it off before the Dumbledore trap gets him (he may even be able to convince Harry he is on his side and tell him everything at Number 12 if he gives them the Sword)

Abstract

Background
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression are highly comorbid. Psilocybin exerts substantial therapeutic effects on depression by promoting neuroplasticity. Fear extinction is a key process in the mechanism of first-line exposure-based therapies for PTSD. We hypothesized that psilocybin would facilitate fear extinction by promoting hippocampal neuroplasticity.
Methods
First, we assessed the effects of psilocybin on percentage of freezing time in an auditory cued fear conditioning (FC) and fear extinction paradigm in mice. Psilocybin was administered 30 min before extinction training. Fear extinction testing was performed on the first day; fear extinction retrieval and fear renewal were tested on the sixth and seventh days, respectively. Furthermore, we verified the effect of psilocybin on hippocampal neuroplasticity using Golgi staining for the dendritic complexity and spine density, Western blotting for the protein levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), and immunofluorescence staining for the numbers of doublecortin (DCX)- and bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU)-positive cells.
Results
A single dose of psilocybin (2.5 mg/kg, i.p.) reduced the increase in the percentage of freezing time induced by FC at 24 h, 6th day and 7th day after administration. In terms of structural neuroplasticity, psilocybin rescued the decrease in hippocampal dendritic complexity and spine density induced by FC; in terms of neuroplasticity related proteins, psilocybin rescued the decrease in the protein levels of hippocampal BDNF and mTOR induced by FC; in terms of neurogenesis, psilocybin rescued the decrease in the numbers of DCX- and BrdU-positive cells in the hippocampal dentate gyrus induced by FC.
Conclusions
A single dose of psilocybin facilitated rapid and sustained fear extinction; this effect might be partially mediated by the promotion of hippocampal neuroplasticity. This study indicates that psilocybin may be a useful adjunct to exposure-based therapies for PTSD and other mental disorders characterized by failure of fear extinction.

I’m female, 174cm, and 96kg, 25 yrs old.
I have my cousins wedding coming up and I am by far the heaviest cousin. Really stressing because my aunts always comment on my weight or eating when I see them (different state). Any tips, tricks, or advice?
Currently, my doctor has put me on Metformin and told me I have some PCOS physical symptoms. I am a function food and bev worker, so I average minimum 10,000 steps and max 23,000 everyday. I’m going to start doing circuit training on Monday and try to keep that up for at least 3x a week. My TDEE is about 2,200 and I’m eating 1,500-1,700 calories depending on level of exercise that day.
My biggest issue is that I’m an emotional eater and insomniac. Often I start exercising/dieting and give up after four weeks because I can’t sleep and just don’t care. The second problem is with work, most nights I finish after midnight and the only thing open is Maccas. I do my best to bring food with me but it’s not always an option (no microwave or way to refrigerate food).

When I began my career in recruiting, I became intimately familiar with the applicant’s journey through the job application funnel, from the moment they submitted their application to the moment they were either offered the role or turned down.
I moved to consulting because I felt I could do more good working alongside applicants instead of being on the other side of the table.
Over the course of my consulting career (going on 12 years now!), I’ve helped hundreds of clients overcome various challenges involved in all aspects of the job search process, including:

✅ Troubleshooting ineffective resumes
✅ Troubleshooting broken job searches
Today, I’m going to cover three key stages in the job search process, what typically goes wrong with them, and solutions. These stages are:

• The online application
• The phone screen
• The job interview

The online application

Symptoms that your application process is broken
If your callback rate is less than 10% (as in, less you receive callbacks on less than 1 in every 10 job applications), then chances are there’s something wrong, assuming you’re applying to jobs you’re 60 to 70% qualified for.
Keep in mind this number varies by industry, role, location, and economic conditions.

Why?

• Your resume may not be targeted enough to the job you're applying for
• The content may not speak to the needs of the recruiteposition,
• It may not be clearly written, or
• It may read like a job description rather than being results-oriented.
• You’re using formatting that interferes with the ability of some applicant tracking systems to parse your resume.

How you fix it
At this stage, your resume is most likely the source of your problems. Assuming you’ve been qualified for the jobs you’ve applied to, take another look at your resume:

• Does it clearly tell the recruiter how you meet the qualifications of the job? In other words, is it targeted?
• Does it sound like a job description? Your resume should be unique to you, and should highlight what makes YOU an ideal match, based on your mix of skills, education, and experience (as opposed to being generic like a job description).
• If you’re a leader, does it demonstrate leadership impact?
• Does it provide quantitative and qualitative achievements? Are your actions clearly mapped to your accomplishments?
• Does it avoid the use of fluff?
• Does it avoid the use of tables, logos, headers, footers or charts?
• Is it written in a common font like Calibri or Times?
• Are there spelling or grammar errors?

Revise your resume to ensure it clearly addresses the qualifications (i.e., experience, education, and skills) listed in the job posting.

The initial recruiter screen

Symptoms that something may be wrong with your initial screens
The rate at which applicants move past the initial screen varies widely, but in my experience, you should be moving forward on every 4 in 10 applications, at the least.
If you’re not, that tells me something’s going wrong during the screen that’s causing the recruiter to not move forward with your application (which by the way could be conducted over the phone or social media platforms such as LinkedIn).

Why?
There are a few areas where you may be tripping up here. A few of the key ones include:

• Your desired salary may not be within the position’s range (especially if you overshoot their salary range)
• What you say during the interview doesn’t align with what’s on your resume
• Your experience doesn’t align with the role after further review
• You exhibit a low level of enthusiasm, such as by being unprepared or not knowing enough about the company or position.
• Other warning indicators could include poor communication skills, lack of professionalism (i.e., you’re late to the interview without a valid reason), or poor listening skills

How you fix it

• Make sure your story and resume align.
• Practice your tone and exhibit professionalism in the way you speak and show up on time.
• Research the company and role beforehand, understand their market, products, services, and challenges they currently face.
• Practice common phone screen questions and research the position's salary range beforehand. Avoid revealing your desired salary too early.

The job interview

Symptoms that you’re failing your interviews
While the number of interviews vary from one company to another, many companies use three as the magic number. That means you’re going through three interviews before being offered a job.
According to recent estimates by Jobvite, the interview to offer conversion rate was about 36.2%, up from around 19% during previous years. That’s how likely you are to be offered the job.
Based on that data, a ballpark conversion rate of about 25% is probably a safe average to go by. That means you have a 1 in 4 chance of moving past each stage of the interview.
If you’re seeing results that are drastically less than this (say you’re only moving past 1 out of every 9 interviews), then you’re probably fudging the interview.

Why?

• You can’t recall your previous roles, responsibilities, or accomplishments in enough detail when hiring managers dig deeper.
• You’re not good cultural fit for the company.
• You struggled to articulate your thoughts or past performance during the interview, making it difficult for the hiring team to gauge
• You didn’t know enough about the company and position.
• There were more qualified candidates.

How you fix it

• Document your work history (roles, responsibilities, projects, accomplishments) and try to memorize the important details that might come up in conversation.
• Practice and master answering behavioural questions. Common questions include:
  
  • Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult coworker.
  • Describe a situation where you had to overcome a significant challenge at work.
  • How have you handled a situation when you had to meet a tight deadline?
• Use the STAR method when answering questions. STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. Structure your response by describing the situation you faced, the task you were responsible for, the actions you took, and the results you achieved.
  
• Practice your answers out loud - that’ll help you become more comfortable when speaking about your experiences. I’ve personally practiced in front of a mirror and have asked family members to act as the interviewer. The key is to do what works for you!
  
• Master your tone and body language. Good books like "The Nonverbal Advantage" by Kinsey Goman are helpful.

The majority of us can acknowledge the issues with being able to heal an unconscious ally 1HP and have them back in the fight, and more specifically it’s repetition in a single combat. So what would happen if healing only stops them from failing further death saving throws?
Could it even be possible to have fun in D&D if you knew going unconscious meant you were out for the rest of the fight? Is that too hardcore & only for some tables?
Perhaps a certain amount of healing would get someone on their feet. Maybe twice their characters level? Half their max Hp?
