Navajo Tech 1st among tribal universities to offer PhD

A university on the largest Native American reservation in the U.S. launched its accredited doctoral program, becoming the first among more than 30 accredited tribal colleges and universities across the country to offer such a high level degree.
The program at Navajo Technical University will be dedicated to sustaining Diné culture and language. Diné is the Navajo word meaning “the people” and is commonly what tribal members call themselves.
A celebration is planned on the Crownpoint campus in western New Mexico in April, and the school already started accepting applications for the fall semester.
The offering marks a milestone for the university, which already has more than 30 degree and certificate programs spanning science, technology, engineering, business and liberal arts, Navajo Tech President Elmer Guy said.
Guy told The Associated Press on Friday that he believes the program in which students will receive a Ph.D. in Diné Culture and Language Sustainability will have a profound impact on the future of the tribe’s language and culture. He said he’s excited to see how students shape their dissertations.
The idea was to create a program that would lead to employment opportunities and effect change for Navajo communities on the reservation that stretches into New Mexico, Arizona and Utah.
“I thought it would be important to make that connection,” Guy said, explaining that it’s a step beyond the call by tribal leaders for their people to learn the language and stay engaged with their culture. “Individuals will get a degree and they’ll be professionals. You have to make it applicable. By making it more meaningful, people will have an interest in it.“
The effort is paying off. About 20 students have applied so far and will be vying for five coveted spots in the inaugural class, said Wafa Hozien, an administrator who helped with the program’s creation.
SKIP ADVERTISEMENT A collaboration with other academic institutions and community partners, the doctoral program was developed with the help of tribal elders, university professors and linguistic experts. Community-based research and internships will be part of the curriculum so students gain practical experience they can apply in the real world.
Guy said he’s hopeful this inspires other tribal colleges and universities to create their own programs.
Hozien said Navajo Tech’s program represents a paradigm shift in that learning through a Diné lens — with culture and language — creates leaders who can advocate for their people in the judicial system, education, land management, business, technology and health care, for example.
Guy said the work done by the university to train court reporters to document Navajo testimony and translators to help with reading ballots during election season already has addressed some of the pressing needs within communities.
The possibilities will be even greater as students earn doctoral degrees, he said.
“They will be part of solving problems,” Guy said. “These students have energy and creativity, and our job is to give them the tools.”

Principal fired after Florida students shown Michelangelo statue

A principal of a Florida school has been forced to resign after a parent complained that students were exposed to pornography.
The complaint arose from a Renaissance art lesson where students were shown Michelangelo's statue of David.
The iconic statue is one of the most famous in Western history.
But one parent complained the material was pornographic and two others said they wanted to know about the class before it was taught.
The lesson also included references to Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam" painting and Botticelli's "Birth of Venus".
Principal Hope Carrasaquilla of Tallahassee Classical School said she resigned after she was given an ultimatum by the school board to resign or be fired.
Local media reported that Ms Carrasquilla did not know the reason she was asked to resign, but believed it was related to the complaints over the lesson.
They also said Ms Carrasquilla had been principal for less than one year.
On Thursday, Florida's governor moved to expand a law that banned public schools from teaching sexual education and gender identity.
Teachers who violate the law face being suspended or losing their teaching licences.

A federal judge has ruled against the Internet Archive in Hatchette v. Internet Archive, a lawsuit brought against it by four book publishers, deciding that the website does not have the right to scan books and lend them out like a library.
The lawsuit came from the Internet Archive’s decision to launch the “National Emergency Library” early in the covid pandemic, which let people read from 1.4 million digitized books with no waitlist.
In his ruling, Judge Koetl considered whether the Internet Archive was operating under the principle of Fair Use, which previously protected a digital preservation project by Google Books and HathiTrust in 2014.
Fair Use considers whether using a copyrighted work is good for the public, how much it’ll impact the copyright holder, and whether the use has “transformed” a copyrighted thing into something new, among other things.
But Koetl wrote that any “alleged benefits” from the Internet Archive’s library “cannot outweigh the market harm to the publishers.”
Judge John G. Koeltl decided that the Internet Archive had done nothing more than create “derivative works,” and so would have needed authorization from the books’ copyright holders — the publishers — before lending them out through its National Emergency Library program.

When first looking into Elliott Higgins and his credentials, a few items stood out:

an executive position with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic
a conducting position with the Cleveland Opera
a horn position with the Santa Fe Opera
a conducting position in Albuquerque
a doctorate degree

Based on my own experience - -

a former musician with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic - early 90s
weekly lessons from a member of The Cleveland Orchestra, as a university student - late 80s
friends & colleagues who currently work in Albuquerque
playing horn in the Arizona Opera since 1995
was a freelance musician for 20+ years
two degrees in music performance

- - I was skeptical of Mr. Higgins' credentials from the start.
After doing some research, I continue to believe that Higgins exaggerated (and in some cases, fabricated) his qualifications.

Fort Wayne Philharmonic

In some biographies, Mr. Higgins claimed to have held an executive position with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. I believe that this claim may be false or exaggerated.

Cleveland Opera

In an obituary from the Santa Fe New Mexican:

An accomplished conductor, he directed the Cleveland Opera, the International Horn Concert in Avignon, France, and the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra.

I believe that his claim to have directed the Cleveland Opera is false.

Santa Fe Opera

Elliott’s return to New Mexico encompassed conducting the Albuquerque Philharmonic, playing for six years with the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, and the annual Hornswoggle workshop for horn players.

The manner in which this passage is written suggests that Mr. Higgins may have performed consistently over six years with the Santa Fe Opera. Higgins was not a full-time member of the horn section; he was - at best - an occasional substitute or extra musician.
I suspect that his claim of employment in Santa Fe was exaggerated.

Albuquerque Philharmonic

At one time, two orchestras in Albuquerque had similar names: one was a professional group, the other was an amateur group. I suspect that Mr. Higgins exaggerated his conducting position with the amateur group to a.) perhaps make it appear more prestigious, and b.) perhaps conflate/confuse it with the professional group in the minds of others.

Doctorate degree

In a 2013 master class at New Mexico Tech, Mr. Higgins is attributed with a doctorate degree. I believe that his claim of holding a doctorate degree is false. No records have been found (yet) of Mr. Higgins holding any degrees whatsoever.
There is a transcript of some kind in the UNM Archives that might offer a clue.

From the Albuquerque Journal, yet another obituary of Elliott Higgins with incorrect information:

He went on to play horn in the Ventura, Santa Barbara, Birmingham, and Cleveland Symphony Orchestras and many more.

Mr. Higgins was never an employee of the Cleveland Orchestra, but an anonymous source has indicated that he held a position in the Birmingham Symphony (1970-74). There is no mention of the Cleveland Orchestra in other obituaries or biographies found so far.

He also performed for 4 years in the Santa Fe Opera.

In another biography, the claim is 6 years.

An accomplished conductor, he directed the Cleveland Opera, the International Horn Concert in Avignon, France, and the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra.

There is no record of Mr. Higgins conducting or directing the Cleveland Opera. And, there is no mention of the Cleveland Opera in other obituaries or biographies found so far. ~~There is also no record of Mr. Higgins conducting the Albuquerque Philharmonic~~. ~~A few instances may be found with~~ ~~Mr. Higgins conducting the Albuquerque Youth Orchestra~~.

He founded the Heldenleben Horn Competition in 1976 which grew in renown and eventually became the International Horn Competition.

Mr. Higgins co-founded the competition with George McCracken.

2022.03.22 05:02 golitsyn_nosenko Chuck's Timeline and More Hidden Kim Observations

Just rewatched S4E1 "Smoke" and picked up a whole bunch of things I thought I'd share:
Chuck's timeline as per his obituary:
1944 - Chuck born
1958 - Graduated valedictorian from Francis Xavier High School at 14
1961 - Chuck finishes 3 years undergraduate at University of Pennsylvania
1964 - Chuck graduates Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown Law
1965ish - Clerked Delaware Court of Chancery
1967ish - United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit
1968ish - Chuck joins George M Hamlin's solo practice on Central Avenue in downtown Albuquerque. Over the course of 23 years the two men built what became known as Hamlin, Hamlin McGill into a nationally recognised firm.
It's an interesting phrasing Howard uses here. It implies his father departed (from HHM or this world, we're yet to learn) about 1991. Kim was with the business at this point. Jimmy most likely not quite. Howard would have been into about his 7th year with the firm at the time.
Understandable that Jimmy might be a little pissed with Howard only mentioning the 23 years that Howard and George worked together and not the 35 years in total Chuck worked for the business. Howard may have deliberately chosen these words though to avoid putting an end date on Chuck's time with HHM - if no cheque has been cashed and no paperwork completed (and any evidence of such has gone up in flames), Chuck's share of HHM would revert back Chuck's estate who may be just as happy to not sell up but instead take dividends - Howard has a good relationship with Rebecca and could easily pull a sob story on her that HHM would need to dissolve to pay out Chuck's share to the estate and Rebecca wouldn't want that as Chuck's legacy.
But here's my real tinfoil hat question:
After the funeral, how did Howard know where Kim lived exactly?
How did he know where to go?
He's sitting outside her exact apartment waiting for Kim (and Jimmy). He's still in his clothes from the funeral and beats Kim and Jimmy there, so he hasn't gone back to the office to look up HR records. And on Kim's resignation letter, she provides a different address to that on her license, and with no apartment number on it. Yet there Howard is.
Has Howard maybe been to Kim's apartment before? Prior knowledge is certainly suggested.
Or does he know because HHM or Howard are paying for her apartment?
Kim has not only a nice apartment, a new car (admittedly neither beyond the means of her position at a stretch), but she also has very nice tailored wardrobe. Patrick Fabian recently joked about Kim not being able to afford things in his recent Inside the Gilliverse podcast and I wonder whether this may be a plot point he's alluding to. As if some deal has been done (blackmail, buyout, settlement or otherwise) with Kim possibly because of something George Hamlin did. This might even parallel her mum having a new car back in 1984. If Kim has somehow wangled pay offs in the past, her writing the cheque to Howard in the restaurant may be her trying to show Howard "I'm not going to be paid off anymore" - "I save me".
I've also speculated that she may have been paid off by Chuck to "chaperone" Jimmy and keep him out of trouble initially when he joined HHM, given Chuck's introduction to her in the mailroom scene in 1993 seemed unusual given that she may have been at HHM for 6 years at that point, delivering Chuck's mail each day. We've seen Chuck put on an act multiple times - to Ernie, to Jimmy, to Rebecca, etc.
A side note just quickly - while on the topic of Kim's consistency in the story of her family's wealth or lack of it, in S3 E8, Kim mentions her affinity for golf, acknowledging to Kevin Wachtel she plays and saying "growing up where I did there was pretty much nothing else to do" - that's a pretty expensive sport to play for someone dirt poor. Just another thing that doesn't add up in her story.
The other thing I took out of this rewatch was that as Howard poured out his heart about thinking he might have killed Chuck, Kim was entirely sympathetic to Howard, you can visibly see her empathising and feeling horrible for Howard, then when Jimmy says "well that's your cross to bear Howard" Kim is jolted and shocked by Jimmy's reaction. Which tells me she's later confecting her outrage at Howard about his reveal to Jimmy - she did feel Howard was reasonable at the time of his explanation but after she's being opportunistic. There's something else driving it.
I posted on the main Better Call Saul board this may be because she has inside knowledge of something in Chuck's will and who Chuck's share of HHM now belongs to. Hence her "anything else?" questions to Howard when he only discusses the transfer of the house to Rebecca and the $5000 to Jimmy - and her subsequent confected vitriol when Howard doesn't raise the distribution of Chuck's share of HHM. If Kim has fiddled with Chuck's will, she wouldn't be able to tell Howard why she's angry, but she sure would be angry if she knew he was hiding it for his own benefit in the hope he wouldn't have to go through with a buyout.
Again I may be way off, but just thought I'd catalogue what I'd seen and thought in case it prompts anyone else to see anything else interrelated.

WEEK 11 REWIND with Zach

HI (2-9) @ SC (6-5)
In what only looked like a close game at the half, with Hawaii inching out with a 0.21 point lead, it was only time before Swansea turned on the jets at home to rumble in with a 46 point victory. Maybe next week Hawaii will remember to bring the rest of the team to backup Hurts’ efforts. Hurts had 50% of the team’s rushing yards and had to single handedly take care of 60% of the Touchdowns. This loss brings Hawaii to their 20th regular season loss and their 3 weeks of high scoring fame are all but forgotten by now. The play that probably sealed the fate for Hawaii was allowing Deebo, a Wide Receiver, to rush for 25 yards to find the endzone.
DDN (7-4) @ ABQ (8-3)
In what was the game of the week, and had plenty of playoff implications, Albuquerque was showing Dunedin a taste of what it is like when their players start to get healthy and most of the mandatory rest out of the way. Kyle Van Noy had Prescott’s number the entire game. From the get-go, Kyle sacked him twice in the first quarter. But that wasn’t all from him, right before halftime, Dak threw down the field in the waning seconds, hoping to get within field goal range, but Kyle came out of nowhere to pick him off and take it to the house. And if things couldn’t get any worse, Josh Allen also came in and forced a fumble, and the Roquan Smith/Jordyn Brooks duo was a blur tackling anyone who made it past 5 yards from scrimmage. Not only did Dunedin face the all-time defensive performance in the league, they also couldn’t stop the running game from the Roadrunners. Sticking to their moniker, the Roadrunners Running Backs accounted for over 200 key yards of offense, and 5 total Touchdowns. Once again Dunedin’s would have gotten away with a potential top seed if it weren’t for those meddling athletes in Albuquerque. But as such, the Roadrunners snap Dundein’s all-time team best win streak of 5.
ALK (8-3) @ LNC (0-11)
If Alaska played CMC instead of JT this week, we are likely to see Lincoln’s first win. Props to the front office for making the trades necessary to be hopeful, but that’s not inspiring to be that close to losing to a winless team without a herculean 5 Touchdown, 200 scrimmage yards effort from one guy. Nevertheless though, you might see a loss or two in the coming weeks from Alaska as they have dodged the league’s mandatory rest for the majority of the year. With people getting injured and sick and then being required to rest, Alaska just has to hope and pray this team is put together in the playoffs. Otherwise it will be another disappointing year as they go home without the cup. On the plus side though, this is their 30th regular season win, which is the first team to do so.
SJ (6-5) @ STL (4-7)
St. Louis had a promising offensive performance this week. It’s unfortunate that the front office doesn’t believe in keeping anyone promising over the age of 21, as they immediately sold Cam Newton and James Conner after a great performance from the two. One can only suspect that Gaskin and Trautman are on the trade block soon enough as well. Unfortunately game-wise though, St. Louis’ defense couldn’t handle the Shrimps offense firing on all cylinders. Aaron Rodgers was back, and he made a statement performance, the only thing that could be improved upon is the TE room that week, as their starters had mandatory rest. Yet they still produced a league leading score for the week. This is a week to remember, assuming the Shrimps make it to the playoffs, as a reason to be afraid of facing them.
NW (10-1) @ OKC (4-7)
In an interesting play-calling by Northwoods, their defense stuffs the box all game preventing Allen or the Running Backs from being a part of the game. Oddly enough though, that allowed Heinicke to have an open season with his Receivers McLaurin and Mooney. But you can’t fault them for too much as it gets the job done in the end. Topped by a solid performance from Mike Williams and Dalvin Cook, Northwoods was able to put up enough points to comfortably win by 50 in the end. Hopefully the rest of the offense can find their footing again, as next week is the week everyone had circled in the beginning of the season as they head back home to meet the Alaska Kodiak.

x - Northwoods Hodags 10-1 ( 1 / 2 / - ) For the first time ever the Hodags have held the top spot for consecutive weeks! The team could potentially lock up the division and a bye this week should they get a win and the Roadrunners lose. Not likely given the Runners are 98% favorites against the hapless Clydes, but the good news is the Hoes are 86% favored over the ailing Kodiak. Something the team should have on their radar though: if they can't go 2-0 in the next two weeks, Alaska and Albuquerque meet in the season finale. That match up means that one of those two can't lose out... meaning if Northwoods doesn't take care of business Albuquerque could be threatening their division title or Alaska could be threatening their homefield advantage!
x - Alaska Kodiak 8-3 ( 1 / 2 / - ) All hail Jonathan Taylor! Alaska's Chosen One saved the team from embarrassment at the hands of winless (but not toothless) Lincoln. His insane 5TD performance was confirmation that the Kodiak did not overpay moving up to 1.01 in 2020 to get him... or in 2021 to get him back... don't ask questions about the in-between! What matters is that JT is cruising, which is good given the team has no discernable back up plan left at RB. The road ahead to securing a bye will be tough, but at least Alaska has punched their ticket to the dance, making them the only team to appear in every postseason since the Alliance formed (unless OKC has finally figured out their positive regression issue).
Dunedin Rangers 7-4 ( 2 / 5 / - ) Just when fans felt safe to hope the Rangers fall flat and relegate to the little brother of the Exterior. With a 1.5 game deficit to Alaska, Dunedin needs to be dang near perfect to close the season if they want a shot at the bye week. Their schedule is doable with two favorable matches and a bout with Northwoods, and the Kodiak have two tough games with Northwoods and Albuquerque ahead. But the gap in tiebreaker points is so large that it looks like it'll take a full game lead to overtake the Exterior. But at the start of 2021, GM Koch made two promises: Positive Legacy Score and a Playoff Appearance. The first has been achieved (and should remain barring a 2019-esque collapse) and with only 1 win the next three weeks the second will be too!
x - Albuquerque Roadrunners 8-3 ( 2 / 6 / +1 ) Despite beating the Rangers in convincing fashion, the Roadrunners find themselves still behind in power rankings. Albuquerque saw Austin Ekeler put up disrespectful numbers against the banged up Dunedin front 4 while also unleashing their own defensive unit to the tune of an all time performance (see Tackling the Numbers). They become just the fourth team to pull back-to-back playoff appearances and do so with a roster that looks ready to rock. They are all but assured a home game in the postseason, but you know the desert isn't ready to concede the Interior quite yet!
Swansea City Ducks 6-5 ( 3 / 5 / -1 ) Swansea took care of business as they needed to this past week and could have a playoff spot secured as soon as Monday as a result! They go head-to-head with arch-rival San Juan in week 12 and a win would do a lot to change the landscape across the pond. For starters, a win combined with losses by both OKC (90-10 underdogs vs Dunedin) and St Louis (99-1 dogs to Albuquerque) locks the Ducks into a franchise-first playoff spot. On top of that, a win against San Juan would propel the team into their best-ever Legacy Score, and if that coincides with City getting a postseason berth they'll be sitting just a hair away from positive Legacy (-00.83).
San Juan Shrimp 6-5 ( 4 / 8 / - ) It's been a rough season for the defending champs, yet all things considered they've weathered well. With near constant drama around the QB room thanks to Deshaun Watson and Aaron Rodgers, many in the Alliance media doubted their ability to successfully protect their Cario. The road to the playoffs isn't easy with Swansea and Northwoods still on the schedule, but with a 2.5 game lead on OKC and St. Louis for the 6th seed the Shrimp are in prime position to join the back-to-back postseason club. And while it may be a far off dream that requires multiple teams to have very specific outcomes... even San Juan still has a shot at a bye week!
b - Hawaii Volcanoes 2-9 ( 4 / 9 / +2 ) Okay, we get it, they have Jalen Hurts and some trendy looking guys... but come one rankers! Lowest scorer on the week for the third consecutive week, bounced from the playoffs this week, and they move up two spots!? SMH. Peek behind the curtain: this is the only team voters can't agree on. Every vote cast for Hawaii was a different rank. 9 teams in the Alliance at least saw two voters agree. No one can agree on if the Volcanoes are bad luck or actually bad.
a - Oklahoma City Storm 4-7 ( 6 / 8 / - ) OKC actually has a fair amount of control when it comes to their playoff destiny. Even though half the spots are taken the Storm still have hope thanks to them playing the three currently-seeded-but-not-yet-secured playoff teams. Should OKC win out against Dunedin, San Juan, and Swansea City, they then would get in should the loser of week 12's San Juan/Swansea match also lose their non-OKC match. The Storm can also get in if they win out and overtake the loser of San Juan/Swansea in points. Of course, these scenarios fall apart if the 2019 Cario Cup champs and 2020 Interior division winners don't win out... given they have the most difficult closing three weeks in the entire Alliance...
a - St Louis Clydesdales 4-7 ( 6 / 9 / -2 ) At this point the Clydesdale updates really read more like an obituary. This week, James Conner and Cam Newton were sent packing, Jamal Agnew and Adam Trautman went to IR for the year, and Amari Cooper got Covid and won't be back until at least week 13. But hey, the team has two 1st round picks come July, five picks in the top 20, and a total of 8 picks in the top 30! Not sure what else there is to say. I mean there is technically a path to the playoffs, but it comes with the underlying assumption the team is going to actually field football players who actively play football.
b - Lincoln Johnsons 0-11 ( 6 / 9 / - ) 2019 St. Louis 2020 Hawaii If Lincoln wants to avoid being in contention for worst of the worst, it's time to fight or flight. The Johnsons face the only other team fully eliminated from playoff contention this week in Hawaii. QB and WR look good for the young team with rare glimpses of hope at RB and TE (okay, just AJ Dillon and Hunter Henry)... even the defense is rounding into form. Fingers crossed they continue to put up respectable numbers in their match against the back-to-back-to-back lowest weekly scorers.

TRADE DEADLINE BUY/SELL with Brandon

QB Riser - Cam Newton (St.Louis)
6’4” 250 of pure athleticism. Booty Scootin Cam Newton was traded from Alaska earlier in the season for Pennies on the dollar. Cam Newton inserted himself as the QB 26 in dynasty. After 2 solid performances could we see another renaissance from the 32 year old.
QB Faller - Zach Wilson (Alaska)
After Zach and his Mom were drafted number 2 overall in the NFL draft it started to look like a number 2 from the outside looking in. A young inexperienced QB on a franchise who has yet to see any success in several years, recipe for disaster. Ironically he also got drafted by the powerhouse Alaska. Despite large volume and a high air yards per attempt this Johnny Manziel esque quarterback is unsecure at QB 22
RB Riser - Cordarelle Patterson (Dunedin)
This 30 year old believe it or not was drafted in round 1 in the NFL draft. Finally finding a home nestled in Arthur Smith's arms. This versatile player is 1st in receiving yards and 3rd in receptions and has become the focal point of this offense. Is this a one off year? Will the Falcons draft a RB next year? Only time will tell for the RB 44
RB Faller - Antonio Gibson (Oklahoma City)
I still believe Gibson is special and a top 10 dynasty RB (7 to be exact). Gibson has been dealing with injury issues and some fumbling concerns. He is still an athletic young RB. Gibson is still seeing a decent workload and is continuing to be very evasive in the run game. However he peaked at RB 3 in the off-season therefore he’s a faller.
WR Riser - Marquise Brown (Northwoods)
This WR 28 has seen beneficiaries of a backfield that includes a list of busted old RB’s who probably shouldn’t be playing the sport. Hollywood is 4th in air yards and 1st in deep targets. With Rashod Bateman on his heels and Dobbins returning next year. This is where he peaks.
WR Faller - Robert Woods (San Juan)
So many questions for a WR who will be entering his age 30 season next year after returning from a hard injury. With the addition of OBJ and the extreme outlier of a season from Kupp, I can’t help but drop him to WR 78… lots of good wide receivers seem to fall away at this stage of their career, especially after an injury of this magnitude. I hope I’m wrong as I am a fan of his.
TE Riser - Dawson Knox (Hawaii)
Starting the season as Josh Allen’s favourite end zone target this young athletic Tight End is continuing to see a vast amount of targets in one of the better offenses in the league. The TE 16 in rankings is seeing very accurate passes from the stallion, as well as a high td rate. His efficiency will fall. However entering the season he was a drop candidate when his contract was up for Hawaii. But he’ll be a cornerstone for the Hawaii offense for years to come.
TE Faller - Jonnu Smith (Lincoln)
The now TE 24 has fallen from his peak when he was catching passes and running routes for Tannehill. He’s now only running 11 routes per game and seeing a measly 3.8 receptions per game. There’s still some promise in this player. He has an excellent breakout age and a young QB who will continue to develop during his contract in New England.

Keep in mind just because I think you should sell someone doesn’t mean that he’s bad, I just believe the market value has superseded the true value of the player
Buy: Rob Gronkowski (Albuquerque)
Although 32, the TE 13 (9 spots ahead of KTC) this dynamic Tight End will be an excellent asset for as long as he has Brady throwing him the ball. He’s 8th in the league in Hog rate and is running 22 routes per game on one of the most boom offenses in the league. Buy him now before the market catches up.

Sell: Nick Chubb (Swansea City)
Chubb is phenomenal. One of the most pure rushers in the NFL today. This almost 26 year old is a top 12 dynasty rb for me (12 to be exact, 6 spots below KTC). Almost entering his post peak, on what’s looking like a below average offense, with Kareem hunt returning. All signs point to some sort of regression for this back. Will be, I’m not sure, but history is not on his side. Positional trade comparisons : QB N/A 1 for 1 WR - Stefon Diggs TE - Mark Andrews 2022 early 1st

This is in a set of siblings that I have findagraves and death certificates and obits for almost all of them, but nothing on this sister beyond mentions in the others obits.
Her name is Lorraine Rasmussen, became Lorraine Jarvis in 1939 when she married Randall Philip Jarvis in Montana. She was born December 15th 1916 in Chinook, Montana. Later after her husbands death in 1945 she lived in Spokane, Washington where her daughter (Roberta) is shown as still living in later in her yearbook pictures. In her mother's obituary in 1982 she's mentioned as living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, then in her brother's in 1995 still living there. The next brother died in 2013 and doesn't mention her as a surviving sibling. So presumably she died in between 1995 and 2013 in Albuquerque. I don't think she married again but it's possible.

Kahler was born and raised in Ortonville, Minn. He loved hunting and fishing with his dad. His passion for the out of doors and wildlife led to a B.S. in wildlife management and zoology from South Dakota State College and an M.A. in wildlife management from the University of Missouri.
After employment at Division of Wildlife in Ohio from 1960 to 1962 and North Dakota's Game and Fish Department from 1962 to 1964, he joined the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Positions there included research on waterfowl at Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in Maryland and administrative positions in the DC office. In 1973, he was appointed Regional Director of USFWS in Portland.
He and his wife Donna loved the Portland area, and when USFWS planned to transfer him to Albuquerque, they declined. Kahler then worked for the Columbia River Fisheries Council and for the Washington Department of Fisheries, returning to USFWS before retirement. Publications included numerous articles on waterfowl and sections on 16 waterfowl species for the Birds of Oregon edited by Dave Marshall.
Kahler and Donna had two children, Maria and Ronald. While Kahler pursued his favorite hobby, hunting ducks, Donna enjoyed trail riding and showing her mare. Maria and her husband Coleman Cobb lived near Kahler and Donna, and the grandparents doted on their twin grandchildren, Natasha and Alexander. Donna died in 2008 after 45 years of marriage.
Kahler is survived by his daughter, Maria and her husband, Coleman Cobb; his son, Ronald Martinson; his grandchildren, Natasha and Alexander Cobb; and his birding partner, Linda Craig.
Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Gardens. The family requests that memorial gifts be given to Portland Audubon or to Earthjustice. *Photo by Jerry Woods.

Sept. 10, 1948 - July 1, 2020
Hester George was born Sept. 10, 1948 in McMinnville, Ore., and passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020 in Beaverton, Ore.
Hester graduated from Lake Oswego HS in 1966, and attended Oregon State University. She met her husband Wayne in Albuquerque in 1976 and after visiting Hester's mother in McMinnville, Wayne was set to move to Oregon. And so they did with Elena (age 3 months) in tow. They settled in Tigard and haven't moved!
Hester was like her favorite flower, "The Peony," with many beautiful layers. She greeted all with a friendly smile, a warm and accepting heart, a sense of style, and always a ready laugh. Notably, her striking blue eyes enhanced that ever-present Irish twinkle.
She was adored by many friends from all areas of her life. She had a large, fun family who enjoyed each others company during St. Patrick's Day celebrations and their famous Family Reunions. Hester loved Hawaii and Mexico and watched many sunsets with Wayne by her side.
She was an exemplary and trusted employee receiving several awards for her work ethic. She retired June 2016 from Intel where she worked in HR for almost 19 years. Prior to that she worked various jobs in the health care field in New Mexico, Colorado and Oregon.
Hester is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Wayne; daughter, Elena Watanabe (Adam); her precious 3 1/2 year old granddaughter, Maggie; her sisters, Molly Ramsower (David) from Tucson, Ariz., and Annette McNair (David) from Camden, Maine. She was predeceased by her mother, Zelda; father, Bill; and brother, Patrick O'Malley.
A Celebration of Life event will be announced once we can mingle and hug. She would be the first to say "only remember the good times!" Hester would like it that way.

ISABEL AMANDA FRANKLIN MILLER
November 5, 1921 - June 3, 2020
Isabel was the middle child of three daughters of Jacob Otto William Strieter and Clara Mary White. She was born and raised in Haslett, MI. Her father died when she was 11 years old, at the height of the Great Depression. Her Mother took in boarders to make ends meet.
Isabel’s college years were interrupted by WWII and a bout of rheumatic fever. She spent two winters in Florida for her health. There she met and married 1LT Robert Franklin. After the war ended, they used the GI Bill to attend Michigan State University where Isabel earned her BA in English and Bob got his Masters in Economics. Their two children, Claire and Tom, were born before Bob rejoined the Air Force during the Korean conflict. Isabel made homes in Michigan, Oklahoma, California, Alaska, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Germany, and Massachusetts before Bob retired from Service. They made their home in Florida for twenty-two years.
Isabel was active in church, always teaching Vacation Bible School and Sunday School and serving where needed.
Bob’s mother, Bessie, lived with them for ten years. Both Bessie and Bob developed Alzheimer’s. Isabel cared for them both at home. Isabel and Bob moved to Vancouver, Washington in 1992 where they joined households with daughter, Claire and son-in-law, Dix. They all cared for Bob at home until he died in 1996. Isabel and Bob were married for 50 years.
In 1997, Isabel was surprised by a phone call from Russell Miller, a classmate from Kindergarten to High School. He lived in Hillsboro, Oregon and recently lost his wife of 50 plus years. He visited, courted, charmed, and married Isabel in 1998. They were married three years before he died.
Isabel enjoyed gardening, travel, garage sales, reading, family gatherings, and her church. She lived alone in the home she and Russ had shared. She managed her home, yard, and finances with a little help. Her final eighteen months were spent with Claire and Dix. She was the last in her family from the Greatest Generation, preceded in death by her sisters, two husbands, and one nephew.
Isabel is survived by daughter, Claire (Dix) Dixon of Vancouver, Washington; son, Tom (Kathy) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. Russ brought Isabel his three children, Shari Barnes (Jack) of Phoenix, Arizona, Robin Buckles of Arizona, Russell Miller (Kim) of Sherwood, Oregon; eight step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to Memorial Lutheran Church on 2602 E. 28th Street, Vancouver, WA 98661.

How did Chuck end up in New Mexico after being such an exceptional law student? Why didn’t he join a large white-shoe NY or DC firm, or even a Chicago firm? Was it because he met Rebecca, was she from New Mexico? If so, was he so angry about his choices so after Rebecca left him, that it contributed to his condition, on top of the fact of the divorce? Whatever the case, it never made sense to me that he goes from Georgetown Law school and clerking for judges to join a solo practitioner in Albuquerque. We understand that Jimmy went there because of Chuck getting him out of jail, but have no context for how Chuck ended up there.
Here is his bio as recited by Howard from the obituary, S4E1 Smoke
“Charles Lindbergh McGill, a towering figure in the Albuquerque legal community who built one of the leading law firms in the southwest, was taken from this world tragically and suddenly last week. Son of Ruth and Willard McGill, Charles was born and raised in Cicero, Illinois, outside Chicago. Charles graduated valedictorian from Francis Xavier High School at the age of 14, making him the youngest graduate in the history of that school.
Umm, in his undergraduate years at the University of Pennsylvania, Charles led the debate team to national championship three years running and won the Larkin Prize. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review and won the first-year Moot Court competition at Georgetown Law, where he went on to graduate magna cum laude.
After clerking at both the Delaware Court of Chancery and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, Charles joined George Hamlin's solo practice on Central Avenue in downtown Albuquerque. Over the course of 23 years, the two men built what became known as Hamlin Hamlin McGill into a nationally recognized firm.
Charles made his mark in many areas of the law. Early in his career, he excelled in criminal law, famously arguing and winning the precedent-setting case of State v. Gonzalez. No matter the case, Charles was known for his precise, clear arguments and his profound devotion to the highest ideals of the law.
Charles was also active in the community, championing education for the underserved. He was on the boards of many New Mexico charities and a founding member of both the Southwest Coalition for Better Schools and the Native People's Education Counsel.
